people come back in. >> Okay. >> Looks like we're recording a bit. All right. Um there technical problem. So we have a motion in a second for consent agenda. I'm just saying thank you to Allison, Laura, Randy, and Susan for all their years of service. All in favor? Any opposed? Okay. Action item. And I have a motion to approve the hires of Emily Glover for speech language pathologist, Megan Bey for special educator, and Liam Bahis Atte. >> Any discussion? Any discussion from the field? Okay, before we do anything, could the student rep have a >> I would vote to approve. >> All right. All in favor? Oh, no. Okay, that's a kind of appeal. I didn't All in favor. >> Any opposed? All right, we move on to discussion. I have two quick things that
aren't quite discussions, but they're issues. some of I don't know if you all got the email from the friends of schools public schools to talk about same dollars, same rules. Um if that's something that we want to consider signing on to, we can put that on the next agenda. Just wanted to kind of do a straw poll if this was anything that you wanted to talk about. >> It's an organization that started a few years ago. Their main push is just saying that if you are a school, regardless of whether you're a public school or an independent school, if you're taking public dollars, you should follow the same rules. Independent schools have slightly different rules that they have to follow. And there's been a big push and of course the independent schools are pushing back
and it is part of the discussion going on with F73 and 955. Um it was a a lastm minute push by this organization to sign on to a petition for lack of a better word. Um we didn't have time to put it on the agenda really effectively but I just wanted to know we wanted to talk about it next time and get a little more involved. >> Okay, I will do that. And then Michael, do you want to kind of tell your >> um so I am pursuing a campaign for state legislature and a friend of our family is um has stepped up to be campaign treasurer which is wonderful. However, she is also a math interventionist at Ferrisburg. Um, so I just wanted to present to the board um because our code of ethics
says that if there is even the appearance of a conflict of interest that it should be brought to the board for the board to decide on. So I just want to so again if anybody thinks this is discussion we should have more robustly. I'm happy to put it on the agenda next time. Um so you can let me know through an email if you think that's something that should go on. Um, personally I don't think that there's conflict. So I'm not worried about it, but if any of you are, we will talk about it more fully. It is not paid. >> And then the final thing is um >> that's important. >> Yeah, >> the SBA resolutions. So um some all of you may know that the SBA resolutions. That's how we build what we
tell the membership what the organization is going to do and put forward. And those are the it's kind of like my marching orders when I'm sitting in the state house talking to legislators. It's based on the resolutions that the membership has created and voted on. So if we want to make any new resolutions or revise any current resolutions, they have to be in by June 15th. We would need to have a discussion of them at our next meeting so we could vote on them June 8th so that they could be presented by June 15th. I have been racked in my brains if there is anything that I felt like we needed to do something or statewide. Um there are already a number of resolutions out there that kind of cover the big issues that I
would have thought of. But if you any of you have an idea, please reach out to me. I'm happy to talk through it and help get it written so we can talk about it next time. But if we don't have anything by the next meeting, we'll not have the time to get it before the deadline. >> Can I ask a question about the resolutions? Is there ever like any action related to the resolutions that like >> Well, the one that I'll use is the one that we put forward a few years ago and it requested a task force be created and the task force was created and we wrote a report and we presented it to the entire legislature and the government. >> Okay. And it still gets referred to sometimes. I mean, it didn't
do much, but it just said these are the things that would be nice if AOE was doing, state board of education was doing, and if you were paying attention to education, these are the So, >> so we did do it that that was presented and handled. >> Um, issues like anti-racism, antibbias is part of the resolutions and we bring that up. >> How we deal with HH is part of the resolutions. I just had a long email from someone who just got on board had read all the resolutions um and thought that they were more p like they should have been policies and so she was very confused as well what this this already happens why is this in here because that's we will continue to say anti-racism should be something that goes forward even
if it's already being handled it's part of our makeup and that's what we believe in as an organization and so we'll continue to push it. So >> great. >> So they are out there for we do. >> All right. Now public comment before speaking please state your name residents addresses to the chair and limit comments to three minutes. It's been a while. I like the time. Um yeah son from um taxpayer parent employee else I can be oh union president some of those things by choice some of those things by um I would say again um I know I brought this up the last board Um, but I think it needs to be acknowledged that the the talent drain that we're seeing, not necessarily in terms of quantity, um, but quality, um, from what I
see, um, it's pretty significant. And uh I think that's you know I g even where things are um I'm concerned that there opportunity for additional change. Um and and that does have an impact both me as parent or kid who could be missing out an opportunity to be with a spectacular teacher at the program seeing me as a an adult building who um majority of my work is actually 100 majority of it 100% that's great yeah I teach math sometimes um is relation difficult both with students and just as important with adults. Um, and those interruptions can have um they can be disable. Some of these relationships have built over several years and the first year is kind of a see what happens. Second year have to figure out third year all of a sudden
you're on the same page and now you're efficient. Um and you know while change is good and opportunity for new things there is a cost associated with it. So I just thank you online is there anyone online that wishes to speak? >> No. Yeah, >> I just wanted to let you all know how happy everyone was to get their flowers last week. That was last week, wasn't it? >> Um and I handd delivered the flowers to the staff here um because they said, "Yeah, go down there." You know, and um Carmen just she was just really expressed her gratitude to all of us for recognizing them. Um and I just wanted to let you all know that. Yeah, right here. >> All right. Um, can I have a motion to go into executive session to
deal with a personal contract issue under one BSA 313A1A? >> Quick question. Prior to that relating to the departure of employees, um, is there a process around exit interviewing? >> Yep. they have the um option to um fill out a survey that goes to our HR director and she confers with me if there's they they can also confer with me um and she confers with me if she's concerned. I can tell you the folks that are leaving or moving or retiring. So there's one person that is going to a different district but the others are in the new region and one person retiring. So, we're trying to tell people they aren't allowed to move even if they'd like to. >> Yeah. >> Do they have to request the exit interview or do you initiate it?
>> Uh, no. The exit survey goes into them automatically. >> They want to meet with someone. >> No, it's good. >> That's fine. It's good to know. >> Um, and inviting the superintendent. >> Second. All >> in favor? We will close on the zoom for right now and deal with >> the last minute stuff. That was really frustrating. There will be >> I
