001I'm proud to order the Wethersfield school board meeting for Tuesday May 9th at pm and um we'll begin with the pledge of the United States one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice do we have any changes or additions to the agenda I just put down um under items for Action um to the jv11 here talk about it but then probably the hard teacher who then down [Music] yeah we can discuss it under yours okay um any others okay um I'll take the motion to approve the minutes from April 18 2023. so moved and uh all in favor yeah um and Becky just so you know um Jamie is not here today um well maybe she'll watch it later and I'll send it yeah and the recording also tells you who's online Okay um
002let's see do we have any public participation yeah next up we have a student presentation of learning oh nothing yeah it's all metaphor um okay so we'll start off with then the the lead learner report card thank you welcome so um a couple of things that uh so as Christine's getting that up I wanted to do some introductions of some new staff members so they're here ready to go so first off we have Becca Town who is our new music teacher she's coming to us from Heartland so we're excited to have her and then we also have Julia Bel Air who is our new second grade teacher so we're excited to have both of them join our Wethersfield family and we they're both Keen State graduates so we're excited about that and um just excited
003to have him here all right so this is the lead learner report for May the 9th 2023. um and I'm gonna go ahead and turn it right over to Carrie our PTO treasurer who's going to report and she's going to go ahead and do her PTO report as well as the athletic group nice okay uh so our PTO is doing uh great things around here currently it's a lot of fun we are having the concession Booth out at the baseball and softball games which is going really well um I now have um parents of other communities who will ask if the concessions are going to be open so there is catching on um we had an excellent turnout at our first comedy night and we definitely want to thank Windsor high school and principal Kate
004Ryan and the facility staff again for allowing us to have that event there it was absolutely perfect location and um we had such great feedback about how much it was people enjoyed the show that we're pretty sure that will happen again it was um so far the numbers are looking really quite good and it was uh out 300 people that came so wow um yes it was great um we are into our staff appreciation week so you would have seen the banner when you were driving up um Mrs Brooks who's one of our substitute teachers is always so kind to let us put that sign on her front lawn um and we have been doing some fun stuff for the staff we are going to be doing some wishlist wish list fulfillment on Thursday so
005we asked the staff for some things that they might need to replenish their classrooms or do projects with during the end of the year so that will be happening and they will be getting a food truck on Friday as well for lunch um we have decorated the school and the staff Lounge is quite festive um our theme is rock and roll and you may see when you walk out there was some chalk art on the sidewalk telling them how much we think that they're wonderful uh and then we have our annual meeting next month so we'll be voting in our officers for the upcoming school year so that will kind of conclude our year although we'll keep working over the summer there's not officially meetings again until August so we'll be coming back to you
006all hopefully again in August um with our plan uh for the year of events and fundraisers um and hope to get in support on that just like this year um there is one thing that um I was asked to bring up was just whether or not we could see if you guys would approve us to be able to um buy 8th grade graduation yard signs um that would be um I guess it could fall under a fundraiser we don't know how much they would be or not so I just wanted to see if we could get the okay when you do items for Action to check that out and see if we can offer that to families so they'd be able to have the I have a graduate of Wethersfield on their front yard um
007Mr Martis is going to buy all of you one for Logan so you can have it um so that is that is PTO we're we are kind of all winding down just a little bit so let's switch out Athletics I feel like some of the things that we're doing are better uh discussed in picture form so I decided to just put a little something in here um that way to put a visual to what I what we're doing here in athletics it's okay all right ready ready so that's just our schedule uh through next Saturday so we're very busy with our baseball softball and track and field meets and games so that we post every week in the newsletter that Mr Mardis sends out and we also post all that information on our Facebook page
008um so that's what's just in the next 10 days busy uh this is a picture of our crew that worked on um doing the softball field so last month we reported that the baseball field had been um enhanced and brought up to spec and then we focused on the softball field which um is not technically just softball it's just kind of an old term we've got to get out it's more like the practice field because as many games as possible we're playing including softball on our Big Field um the third and fourth graders are out there now using the the game field so um but we did want to make sure that it was of a quality that if we need to have two games then both I feel like they're playing on a good
009field so those are our volunteers for doing the athletic fields uh quick recognition of some of our weathers field athletes that are outside of um are sponsored Sports uh there were three girls Ayanna gay Taylor tomberg and Addie crane that are the AAU 7th and eighth grade state champs um very fun thing for them to have um the Vermont Flames which has Lucas Gaudet and Isaac McNaughton they won a huge tournament a month or six weeks ago and they're back at it and one again and then I just wanted to put a quick plug for the lace-up for Laura event which um benefits uh the Laura McNaughton Laura Cody McNaughton um scholarship that is part of the family here at lettersfield so that is coming up in June the information is on there to register
010um and then this summer um well late sorry early summer Christian Craig is going to run a spring soccer session this is for uh anyone that wants to be involved in and even from other towns that's being held at Hoisington field um it's kind of an independent program that Christian is doing but uh he is donating all of the proceeds to purchase that soccer rebound wall which I just learned what it was um so hopefully we can get enough registrations to cover that um for our soccer program here and then these are just some of the items that we're uh staying on top of so Springfield fence has been here and done the measurements and is working up the quote for the fence along the field we did put up a temporary fence just one
011is a visual barrier for people that that's kind of where the poison ivy and Twigs starts but also for safety um we are working on some summer camps and Clinics I talked with Larry dower a bit um we're going to try to put together some basketball clinics for the middle school kids um and then Christian will be doing soccer and we have other ones in the works um we do have a plan for resurfacing the gym floor hopefully that will take place this summer um we are going to be really targeting um the need for a scoreboard out on our field um there is a small portable one but it is not really adequate it's designed specifically for soccer and we would like to have our field have a baseball one as well um so
012that is on the horizon um I have begun putting together an officiating day it would be an all-day event with an hour and a half back-to-back sessions for each sport so if someone is only interested in becoming an official for soccer they would come for that part of it if they want to become an official for all of the sports they could stay all day um hoping to get the other Rec director um rec league directors to jump in and help financially support us so we can provide lunch and not have to have people pay to do it they do not get certification but they get the skills in order to be able to help out not only our school but desperate need for officials for All Sports um so hopefully that will be happening
013in August um and then I just wanted to just say that I hope that I can participate in the budget planning for fy25 which seems like a long way away but those talks start happening in September so um there's a lot of costs and um things I've come across just doing this that um I want to keep highlighting uh so I'd just like to be able to be a part of that process there any questions for PTO or Athletics is there any way we can add a link to the upload athletic directly on the Wethersfield homepage uh there is I was just gonna ask BJ there is a website for all of the schedules that I believe is tied to the website it's just tricky to get there okay um so I can check in
014with it and see if there's a way to make it more obvious but there is it is embedded in there searching through on a phone I was unable to access any of that the other night yeah so and it's also once you get to it because it's actually done through Sports engine which is the software we use okay it's not even easy to find a specific if you really want to know just what a track and field me is right there's several clicks to go through so let me see if we can get some help to put that a little easier all right thank you anything else we have him down for items for discussion also for um [Laughter] thank you okay all right so next we have Ryan Page he's our local Eagle Scouts
015future Eagle Scout so he's going to talk a little bit about his Eagle Scout project how do you like to do here at Wethersfield School computer uh hello I'm Ryan Page I am a boy scout out of troop 235 out of Portland and I wanted to talk to you about doing my Eagle project here at Weathersfield School um you could turn to the next slide please my major project is going to be a Footbridge across the stream from wethersfield's land over to Riley Drive uh those are some pictures of what it would potentially look like my main idea is three big logs going across and then having two by sixes going across that that are screwed on top of it and having one big railing going on the side and you could go to the
016so how it started was a couple years ago DJ gave me the idea in private and I accepted uh what I've been doing for it I've gone through a whole proposal for my Eagle Scout project sent it to Green Mountain Council which is the Boy Scout Council of Vermont they accepted it I've gone to the person who I'd be building the bridge like onto their land I've met with him just recently this past Monday he's okay with the project but he wants to meet again on sometime soon BJ and I are thinking Friday just to have a representative of weathers field to be there as well um what I'd like to do is of course build it and really right now all I need is permission from Wethersfield as a whole to do it um
017and then the future of the project is after it's done which hopefully I'm aiming for June 23rd to the 25th to get it completed in uh the Weathersfield school can use it for emergency purposes to evacuate children from Wethersfield school over to Riley Drive um who pays for like the lumber and so forth um suppose I'm supposed to get it donated that's all my problem uh also getting possibly a building permit I still have to look into that after this meeting and um it's about it will come from so the logs are so my dad has telephone poles that he used to stack wood on because he stuck out wood for his uh wood stove but then he switched to pellet stove so he doesn't use the telephone poles to stack wood on anymore and
018his father-in-law who owns the telephone poles is willing to let me use them for the project and um that was the other thing I was wondering is like how high up is this like it's just got the the handrail on the one side so I went if somebody falls off the one side so it's not that far off the ground it's so there's like a semi-built Trail back there and I plan on building it as close to the stream as possible but it will still be 24 feet long and 30 feet wide so thank you okay and so you would need so much just approval to just proven to put it on school property or what is it on school property yeah okay um put that on items for action does anyone have any questions
019thank you Ryan very much so it's great too because I was talking to uh Chief Danielson police department and definitely we could use that as an alternate route for emergency comparedness or if we need to have students through the campus and then plus it's also going to connect all those students and Riley drive here so we're going to also reduce the traffic pattern because so we've got a few parents that live over there currently they drive around pick up their kids but a nice days like today they can just walk them across the bridge so it serves a couple of purposes so we appreciate that thank you very much Ryan thank you for your time thank you leader of me so first off our classroom wigs um first when we were down there kindergarten knew
020I haven't noticed that they've already met their wig um they're wildly important goal good job kindergarten and so they're monitoring adjusting those and looking at the next steps and then I'm excited on the 25th of this month we have an all-day meeting with our coach and what's amazing about that is we get that opportunity to spend time with her to plan out for next year and then a lot of times we don't have sub coverage because we don't have enough substitutes so these two nice ladies right here are going to come in and help sub on that day and so they're going to be in the classroom and so they get to be with our students and spend an awesome day with our amazing students and then all of our our staff that's part of
021that White House team gets to be together and we don't need the record so we can get some quality work done which is nice too all right oh all right I already introduced Julia and Rebecca again Julia and Rebecca they're here we're excited to have them as part of our Weathersfield family so thank you very much for being here and so VT cap so that's our new testing so we no longer do s back for State Testing into the BT cap which is a lot of fun kids are enjoying it right kids you have a good answer all right and so it is for grades three through eight so last week we did Ela this week we're doing science which is just grade five and eight um and then next week we'll do maths we'll
022finish up on that again it ends up being grades three through eight but it's been a lot of fun and what we've done to be able to get the we sort of Star Wars thing going on so may the scores be with you and um because last week with Star Wars I made the course um so we also then included our younger students our two students so they drew a little inspirational we're coming in a little inspirational posters and then all of our testing signs and new testing we are quiet please read so all Star Wars theme so it's been a little fun for the students we're trying to make a somewhat stressful situation a lot more enjoyable for our students and then our enrollment numbers for um uh April through May our total number
023one right now is 249 so we're holding steady right there about that 250 number our average daily attendance is up again a little bit 94.28 and then we had kindergarten registration on the 28th of April and so we have 20 Kindergartners that are registered so far which is great for the FY 24 year and then we just had our Panther cup night just a few minutes ago and we had 14 out of our 20 students who showed up for that for just amount of awesome um champs for them to come in and check out the kindergarten Classics again and they get a little bag of materials sold under the summer we're going to start at the office and then steam Camp is ready to go Staffing is all set we have all of our staffing
024set student enrollment is 26 so far so that's more than last year last year we had 23 once it got started so I anticipated a few more students in there and it is July 10th through August 5th and so it's really nice that they're coincides with our summer Academy that's held at Windsor and then it is from 12 to 3 o'clock Monday through Friday okay building Community um so we've been working on our school wide fire drills with egress Chief Daniels has been here several times all for good things so today he was here with um detective Prince with our K-9 unit AJ and they did a school safety presentation with the second grade students and then we included some select board members and our recent interviews of some of our positions so our town
025manager Brandon was here and then we also had somebody from select board um Chief Daniels we meet on a constant basis to talk about school safety and make sure we're doing everything we need to do we had a Tourette's Syndrome training with the University of Vermont so we paired up with UVM to be able to do that and then we are working on reestablishing the monthly emergency planning committee which is a group of local law enforcement and emergency response teams that met here on a monthly basis including our superintendent and then we talked about what was going on here for safety and the area to make sure that we are all on the same page and had a great safety plan inputs awesome so this week Kerry mentioned that his staff appreciation week so the
026spread yesterday was pretty amazing we are all rock stars here so we appreciate all the support the PTA has done for our staff and one of the fun things that they did was they had so they had records so every classroom has a record every door has a record and they have a little saying on there and they for the office they did Beatles and here comes the sun which is the song Nation always sing to my son when he was a baby um you're okay with that Logan because I know you're out there listening foreign but um they had a greenish teal color record I would say and they hid it somewhere in the school and so teachers and staff were looking around for this record and nobody found it yesterday and so then
027Carrie sent out a clue today and um somebody finally found it so it was some place that was flat and it helped if you were shorter so I'm surprised I didn't find it but I didn't quite look in the right place um and it was hidden underneath one of the mailboxes I'd looked at the mailboxes like three times but I didn't bend down myself but it was great just to see how excited everybody was to take that opportunity to look and just have a little fun and so I think we decided that we're going to rehide it and start it again tomorrow and see what who comes up with it so two people shared today that they found it together so yeah but it was it's been a lot of fun so we appreciate art
028yeah we appreciate PTO doing that um our fourth grade has been working on a Connecticut River Project so the Connecticut River Constable conservations it brought the their envirus scope to weatherfield school last Friday and they were in here in the AP room and they got to do some different activities with that which was pretty awesome to see their corporate students get really involved in that so learning you know Hands-On learning happening here at weathers field Heaven weatherfield police visit this was just today the students got to see um Chief Daniels was here as well as detective Prince with AJ I think AJ was the big hit um pretty nice little dog there um a little scary though too I wouldn't want to get on this bad side and we were told not to touch his
029toy that he had his mouth he was loving came up to you but not do not touch the toy so that was good though that the kids got to see that and experience it so there's a little write-up about that um and they talked about careers in law enforcement on the cycle and then our big friends little friends which are our seventh grade students that are meeting with our kindergartners and they do this during their Library steam time some of it and they made recycle Bots um and they use recycled materials to design build and decorate their robots so those are in the front right as you walk in in the case and then we have some upcoming events Ka Pride assembly and Memorial Day music assembly which will happen on the 26th no school
030on Memorial Day we have our art showcase and Community dinner on the 31st June 2nd is our eighth grade graduation dinner and dance last day of school is on the 14th and this missile is at 12 p.m and then we do have our eighth grade graduation that night at 6 pm and it's gonna put you right at the end then we have our newly um named School Board student School Board representative which is Finnegan Kelly he's a seventh grader currently here at Weathersfield obviously part of the baseball team and being here in school and him and I have already started planning things out that we're going to do together now he's going to be part of our report so you will not just hear me talk you can hear him talk a little bit too
031and he's excited to serve that one-year term and be our student right all right everything you want to say um I don't want to put you on the spot yeah [Music] yeah all right we appreciate you being here and volunteering to do this okay thank you and that's it for my report then was it I said no all right well my report is linked I'm not going to go through all of it um if any of you heard it at the SC board meeting but I'm just going to highlight a couple of things from it we're really excited about um just an update the equity audit is complete we are we have a plan to roll it out with staff next year with our consultant and we are hoping to also our consult with Mary
032Bannon then if you have met her she um is willing to come to our board Retreats this summer and um dive into the report before this individually which I think is awesome and we can work on setting some goals from information that we learned from the report and uh we did hire um a Dei coordinator Tracy Price she's moving across the country this summer she is very experienced in diversity equity and inclusion she's worked as a consultant a couple of different companies doing this kind of work so we are thrilled that she was joining us for figuring out where we're going to put her and uh how we're going to onboard her in a way that's successful I think I just wanted to bring to your attention is we had John Broderick come and speak
033it was an Su event we did not have a huge turnout in the evening for the parent presentation but the students at Windsor got to hear speak but um he was a chief justice New Hampshire Supreme Court he worked at Dartmouth for a long time and he experienced personally his his son's mental health issues and it's made him very passionate about this issue and it came to speak about it and he had some really practical advice and I'm sharing this tonight because one of the things he said we can do to help the mental health of our children which is an epidemic right now is to um really regulate technology so I'll come to the SC board meeting next month with cell phone survey results I sent out a quick survey to parents staff and
034students on really restricting cell phones in school and we need to make some decisions around on that that topic so I just wanted to bring those two things to your attention tonight and then I'm going to turn over communities do you want to share your screen I Winkle okay I just have to join me oh you do you want um we went off agenda we've got um a couple of things before your report um is that okay yeah I will share it with you all right so we'll do that first so we would also um as part of our report we'd like to Mr Beaver who we accepted as a resignation letter last month would be literally during the meeting I did this text saying having second thoughts and I thought it was something else
035I was like what is this so I called back and it was him that he was having second thoughts he decided he really want to stay um he has it in him to teach several more years and he was just concerned about the drive and so he made some accommodation for him [Music] and then we also need to accept the resignation letter of Mr Michelle Jarvis who is our art teacher and she is um so she has designed um and then I did want to talk about with so Mrs Jarvis right now is currently at 6 15 and so I would like to increase that position so that we get better candidates to a full-time person because we can definitely an example the schedule where the person can realize that we realize their art skills
036a lot more and have a lot more exposure for students and provide more electives for Middle School students really um pushing for any option of using that some of that extra time for therapeutic purposes we could possibly do that um one of the candidates if we would have interviews um also has a special background so that she can do some intervention practice of academic yeah absolutely it would be very creative on how we would use that person you know be here [Music] okay sorry awesome does anyone have any questions about it hi I'm Angie Ledoux I am the Windsor Southeast supervisory Union um curriculum director but also the federal grants manager and I'm here tonight to share with you some information about parent and family engagement we're currently undergoing a Consolidated Federal program Grant monitoring
037and I am learning so much and one of the things that came out of this is learning more about how important it is that we engage our parents and families um in improving in improving student outcomes so um this is tonight I'm going to share with you what Weathersfield Schools parent and family engagement procedures draft is in the hopes that I welcome that you would feel free to or on the website which I'll show you in a second on the the comment form if I can get the screen to share okay so the first thing is if you go to the Wethersfield um website which of course I don't have it online website but on the Weathersfield website there is a menu called information and if you go to that information menu you will find
038information on the federal grants program if you click that it takes you to the grants page for whether to be in school and then if you scroll down you'll get a little more information you get the draft of the parent and family engagement procedures and board members I do have to tell you that last um last month or two months ago the Su board had the final reading for a updated family engagement policy and it was the wrong one so we are presenting another address board meeting but I apologize that was an oversight on my part not to know that it was the right to policy so then below that is a comment form on these procedures and it just is a form for you to ask a question or a comment or a list
039of concern and your email is optional this also as uh as family members of a title one school you are um it is your right to be notified of teacher qualifications so this letter here outlines what that means um in terms of knowing whether or not your students are being taught by students by teachers rather who are who made the highly qualified um or not I mean I mean sometimes we will have a long-term stuff that might not be adequate but might not have a licensure and as you know in this climate right now with it's tough to have um when we've had openings that have gone unfilled and so this is just an important uh requirement that we need to make sure our parents understand they can request that information let's go back to
040the presentation and here's my way to get to the my notes because I can't percent of them I know so excuse me a second there you go it's really hard to do this on this tiny little screen I will tell you these Chromebooks the real estate is very small so in order to provide all children with a significant opportunity to receive a fair ethical and high quality education and to close educational gaps Wethersfield School receives Title One Part A funds therefore in accordance with section 1116b of every student succeeds act Westfield school will develop with the parents and family members of participating students a written parent and family engagement procedure this procedure will outline how this school will involve parents and family members in procedure development and build capacity for parent and family engagement in
041order to improve student academic achievement per Essa Wethersfield school will hold an annual meeting at a convenient time to which all parents participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend to inform parents of the school's participation in Title 1 to explain the title 1 requirements under Essa and to inform parents of their right to be involved the weatherfield school agrees to take the following actions the title one information session and Community dinner I'm sorry this oh this has been updated is on May 31st that art showcase and Community dinner is also a title one night um to provide you with information about this and you're probably thinking well if you said that these procedures were supposed to be developed with parents and families this is a draft for your feedback um as we know
042this is a busy time of year and pulling people together to come in and meet and create a draft it tends to be um very challenging so this is one way you certainly can provide feedback to Mr Mardis if that is if you would if people want to come in and co-write those procedures together the title one information session um I'm sorry the annual meeting invitation will be provided through an invitation we've got a fancy liar that will be going out as soon as it receives final approval um and then uh the newsletter will it has they have announced the um art showcase we're going to make sure that they we also let people know it's about title one and two and Brian will be presenting some very important information that evening um the staff
043weekly updates um to parents will include that information there's uh the flyer as I mentioned the final school email blast the week of the event to make sure that you don't forget the delicious food and the most informative title one night and I'm sure the art is going to be fantastic so the feedback plan we will have anecdotal feedback at the end of the event I know that Brian is more than happy to talk with the parents and families about the school and about what you could see might be needed for our students follow up with a brief survey in June and the input will be analyzed and used in the plan for the fall per Essa Wethersfield School agrees to offer a flexible number of meetings such as meetings in the morning or evening
044and may use Title 1 funds to provide transportation child care or home visits as related to parent involvement weathers field school offers up to four Community meals or more from this meeting with BJ and Brian yesterday and it was like event after event after event so we know that four is really quite uh not representative of the number of community events that are offered at this school um throughout the school year their Community meals that include all families and community members and very importantly that includes children and we notice that when we invite our children in with their families we get more participation way the parent and teacher conferences are held in November and March at a variety of meeting times throughout the day and in the evenings in order to accommodate need there are
045in-person and virtual options available and child care could be provided if we know that's a need how we involve parents per Essa Weathersfield School agrees to involve parents in an organized ongoing And Timely way in the planning review and Improvement of Title One programs in the following ways planning sessions for events will be advertised at least two weeks in advance and in a variety of media and parents are invited to attend and participate feedback will be invited through school surveys reward meetings reportings such as this evening we're recording this and then it will go up on not only the um the board's website but also on on the um Wethersfield federal grants page I'll include this reporting reporting feedback will be invited through the school surveys and a feedback form that's on the website Wethersfield
046School agrees to involve parents in an organized ongoing And Timely way in planning review and Improvement of the School parent and family engagement policy and in the joint development of the school Life program plan in the following ways now that is a um that is an error um Wethersfield does not offer a school-wide program we did in the past but then because the income rates went below a certain number weatherfield is no longer eligible for that and right now we get this school gets a 10 waiver because you're within 10 of the highest um rate in the supervised reunion the highest rate of the low income but I think you get it the low income rates are what determine how much um if you have a school-wide program or if you have to run a
047targeted assistance so there are information nights held twice a year Title One information is shared via the school website newsletters and the student and family handbook parents and families will be surveyed during and after the event Title One Nights with Community dinners are another opportunity for you to provide feedback Wethersfield School agrees to provide parents of participating children the following timely information about Title One programs a description and explanation of the curriculum and use at the school the forms of academic assessment used and the achievement levels of the challenging State academic standards opportunities for regular meetings for parents to make suggestions and participate in decisions relating to the education of the children and responses to their suggestions as soon as practically possible the school agrees to provide these in the following ways newsletters the website
048parent family engagement evenings the principal and staff will know parental feedback during team meetings and share that with the building administrator as needed and you can always email um if you have feedback too per Essa Weathersfield School agrees to take the following actions to submit any about the school like about the targeted assistance program when the school makes the plan available to the Lea the Lea is Windsor Southeast supervised reunion if the if the targeted program plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children complaints and concerns received will be responded to as needed via personal communication by the school administrator or a person assigned any widely enacted changes will be explained in the school newsletter school board meetings are another Avenue for parent concerns to be shared and responded to per Essa Wethersfield
049School agrees to take the following actions to jointly develop the participating parents a School parent compact outlining how parents School staff and students will share the responsibility for improving student academic achievement the School parent compact called The Homeschool compact is in the student handbook on page 40. and it will be reviewed during the fall Title 1 information session The Homeschool compact appears in the student family Hamilton which is disseminated to each family prior to the beginning of school via the school website to hook Winston newsletter by any chance as well yeah so that is available there information about the title one information session will be in the school calendar for September 2024. not 2024 2023 information will include an overview of the of what will be shared and discussed during including the targeted assistance plan

056at the beginning of my presentation come to the title one information night enjoy a delicious dinner wonderful art and learn a little bit more about how Title One serves your school yeah and then the next action is to to basically share this out with the board when we have a final draft of it right now it's just in draft form and it is my understanding that the board does not approve procedures that would like to be informed or procedures that is stand for every student succeeds at every placement job left behind me who got that one a lot of people yeah all right thank you Angie does anyone else have any questions a question about professional development that happened recently with Paras now is a great time because it kind of kind of dovetails into
05711 and 12. now the right time to ask that or it's at a different kind of discussion I heard about an encouraging part of professional development from Paris and so that would be under the Su technically yeah we are working hard on making our Sports staff training meaningful right okay well I I had a little twinge of jealousy when I heard a little bit of their uh their professional development I know it's an odd thing I heard that there was a segment or a seminar specifically for Perez on verbal e-escalation at least students um love it jealous of it because honestly I I see a very that seems to be appropriate for all of us involved involve public education on every level um and I definitely think that that trading should be at least in
058the refresher standpoint if necessary uh but definitely for all classroom teachers um and all of those of us that volunteer um to me would seem to be a very valuable skill and if we want people to continue to volunteer and really do well in their volunteer roles that would be an essential skill to have lay down for its best practice for verbal DS division with students other parents staff members so I guess it's more of a comment a question um the program is called Safety care safety care safety care and Katie brought Kitty or Hearn brought that to us just last last year and we have a few Sports deaths that are trained in that last it was last August was our first training and so there is a more of physical management piece to
059that but that the first part of the saving care is on that verbal de-espiration great that is very good to hear I'll make sure that those presenters get that feedback as well well it just it seems to me to be a cascading effect we use things don't get out of control in the classroom they don't get a control in your office in your office it's definitely a scum questions um let's move on to items for discussion first one is the select for school board relationship and I put out a couple of emails actually three now um two members of the select board I haven't heard back so um I don't know um I'm right now I don't have time to they have their meetings are online so I know one of us has time to
060pay attention to the next web board meeting or review like I don't know if they're talking about this amongst themselves or or what's happening so if anyone has time to maybe reduce it going on I don't want to keep bothering them um like I understand that maybe they don't want another meeting to account or something like that but it 'd be just be nice to know what they're if they're thinking about them so someone has time to check on that um so we have student on the select board and um so that's great I'm glad that the student is interested in the other one um the third item for this session is raising funds for athletics and a follow-up on the insurance question um so I know here you had a couple of ideas um
061and one of them was to perhaps raise the sort of like what is it the theme that we charge yes per student and right now we have a 10 theme stand which have you done any research on what like other local Rec programs are charging yes so there's been it's a shared information that we're all looking at the average that I came up with was 38 dollars per student um the average that our rep came up with was 41 so right around 40. um and I did share that the comparison just in Heartland for kindergarten and t-ball was 50 for a resident and 60 for a non-resident at Heartland and we're still at ten dollars for even the middle school kids where we are providing transportation and full officials that yeah so we are well
062below what any average is um and then I know we have a program for a students can't afford to pay um how is that working right now they just come and see hey or they would let us they would let me know through the registration process if that was the financial hardship um I've only been involved since you know the beginning of the school year and haven't had that occur but um certainly that would be extended still if we were able to increase our cost of registration yeah um any other things that you had thought of tonight's money or yes so uh we would like to uh have sponsors for t-shirts or jerseys um that I I've noticed as we've been playing other teams that a lot of other schools um or towns have a
063censor for their jerseys um that would be one way uh we didn't already get permission for selling banners or advertisement like on the fence that doesn't exist yet um but that can translate to inside of the school for basketball season um it's it's more about it would mostly be around sponsors um if if that I don't know if that can be like a blanket like we can work with Brian you know to get if you were to approve that we could use sponsorships as a way to fundraise that I could communicate with Brian on each individual way um but also allowing other kids to join our programs when we're offering something that they don't which Segways into the insurance question that we had come up um I guess the one thing I was wondering about
064was sponsors is it possibly like get into some trouble if like and if some the sponsor wasn't like a kid-friendly sort of you know we didn't we didn't feel it was an appropriate business is is it possible for us to turn down certain businesses or would that be a legal issue if we we don't have to let anybody be a sponsor or tell me possibly turn down you're going to solicit the sponsors yeah and we certainly would not have um you know uh alcohol establishment or you know any sort of questionable business if it doesn't fit the dress code of our school like they're not allowed to wear it as a t-shirt or a sweatshirt we certainly wouldn't put it put a bit on our Athletics um but I think that having the relationship and
065being in the office with Brian lends itself to making sure that we're preventing all that before something were to go ahead but um we also would like to do tournaments so you can host for basketball Unity New Hampshire did a Two on Two And you can do co-ed so um they raised a lot of money on a two on two tournament where it was just fun for two friends to go and play um there's a bunch of tournaments there's jamborees for soccer they're you know there's certainly a lot of ways that we can do it without asking for a lot of money but also to be able to supplement for the families that might need extra help we'd like to get to a place where each piece of the uniform is provided we faced this
066baseball season that families needed to purchase baseball pants um and that is where we really start to hear about it's hard and we do provide what we can and you know we certainly have people willing to step up and get pieces um not all the baseball teams got hats you know we have to give it to the middle school first and work our way down so I'd just like to see us get to a point where everything they need to play sports we have for everyone else have any questions or ideas one reason s um did you get an answer yep um I spoke with Jim he spoke with this bit who's our insurance carrier and this would apply k-6 because Middle School is is under the BPA rules and there are requirements about who
067could be on those teams that will likely Jim thinks that the vpa is going to adopt six eight as Middle School um in the near future so so the insurance company does cover any student that's you know on our in our facility um playing sports so the answer is yes um with a caution um Jim said you know we don't typically do this and it's because if there is an incident it's our deductible it's our insurance rates that are going to be impacted so you know his his feeling is we definitely want to take care of our own and you know we want to obviously be part of a greater community members other um if we accept other students on our objectives that was that was the answer but it's a laugh I mean it's
068maybe covered um so do we want to put this under items for Action voting to a group do you want to suggest that engagement or registration fee or is that something that's um yeah I mean I guess if she's seen that forty dollars that doesn't sound like a lot to me yeah I'm not suggesting we jump right to court yeah I would like to uh I'd like to maybe start at like 20 of them um I mean ideally I want to be able to raise money but not from the parents necessarily specifically so uh slow and steady maybe on that um thank you okay um and then was that answer okay for you did the insurance so yeah it's not it's not something that I think you're gonna see actively promoted it's just if it
069comes out cheerleading is one of the one things in indoor soccer that we see other folks want to join in but if we got into doing tournaments then we would be welcoming other community members you know from neighboring town soon so yes I think that answers um next thing to discuss is our board retreat um which we need to uh set a date for and the location and um the time I guess as well um what uh what I was thinking is um a lot of times we substitute the board retreat for one of our summer meetings um since we did have the Mary Gannon has offered to come to our board retreat she would rather do it sooner than later in the summer so I was thinking about our next meeting June our June
070meeting since there's a lot going on in June we'll be here for graduation and stuff like that um we could skip our June meeting and have our board retreat and gym happy face the vegan and then um the week that our meeting takes place is probably not the best week to have a border tree because of the graduation a lot of the schools are as you are having graduation that week so I was thinking the week after sometime maybe the 20th 21st 22nd somewhere in there we usually have it in the evening um you know starting you know around five or six o'clock and going until whenever we talk ourselves out yeah that's usually a pop-up um so does anyone have any issues with the with that link or with um does that sound okay
071Monday and Tuesday so um so Tuesday is the 20th uh the Wednesday the 21st I don't know it's Tuesday or Wednesday she's Tuesday I'm fine with either Tuesday okay well let's do let's do Tuesday the 20th then do you want to say uh it's easiest for people 5 30 or do you want to keep it um later for work purposes um yeah can everybody be available at 5 30. so I think the earlier we start the better because usually the Retreats are a little more time with chatty and we eat and stuff and so yeah it takes a little longer we don't want to be going like fast [Laughter] um let's see uh so we'll start at five and yeah it's just hot luck and ice cream whatever dish to share okay and we'll be
072having um Mary will be there um helping us unpack the audit which will help us set some goals um I also if you're interested have just a quick board survey that they can help the board and Brian you'll come to and Brian and Christine and Harry Gannon and I hear that the jewels have offered their home as the location to where are we so if you want to just send everybody you know directions or whatever yeah sounds good awesome thank you so so that is Tuesday June 20th at 5 30. at the general residence okay and I'll have um Lori delete the June meeting from your calendar so yes because this one's impersonal yeah um [Music] I guess it depends if there's anything that is pressing that needs to be done what do you guys
073I mean what's what is there anything coming up that Lena would need to discuss in July I think if you're willing to I think you're hiring to be done some boards the other boards typically take July off um and authorized uh permission to hire if there is a last minute higher authorize us to do that and um everyone we would do that now tonight yes can we do it tonight okay okay um he will bring if he has any hires between now and the retreat he can bring it to them all right and then yeah and then he still has an open position or whatever skipped okay um so then our next actual meeting here at the school and online would be August 8th at 6 30. [Music] in that meeting usually we talk about
074Athletics athletic stuff to discuss um so that'll definitely be on the agenda for that meeting um we don't usually have an official agenda for the board retreat um something I like to shoot is if you guys want to come with ideas you see the radar list at the bottom of the agenda um we try to have a couple ideas of things that you would like to see improve in the school or it's ideas that you have about things that we could do as a board so it'd be great if everybody comes with an idea or two survey that I'll send it okay um then next we have uh the drama budget and financials let me guess okay yeah um so as we we're hoping for um we actually ended this last production in the black
075uh because we had a tremendous showing at the door so let's see 2020 the door receipts were zero 2021 the door seats were zero 2022 the door receipts were zero um for the spring production um so we did much better this year at 2000 uh excuse me for so between donations of the door and other donations we got a total of 2 663 dollars so I'm guessing the public life um so there was quite a few other donations from other sources so supporting in terms of infrastructure with microphones uh we had Fabrics whatnot but our total for the additional lights sets um Expendables rigging supplies cabling all of that was uh just over [Music] ninety seven dollars so so we did replace an awful lot to get us back up and running and visible that
076included the backdrop so we're basically starting looking at the next production uh in the Black by two thousand thirty five dollars and 22 cents um with the infrastructure in place already to hear and see all the students on stage so we're in a pretty good spot and um thanks so much again for all of everyone's hard work and donations recognized or not recognized wouldn't be possible without thank you thank you hey next we have Mr action at two new hires um take the motion what are the say the names yeah so we already did back it down last meeting but our 200 percent agreements Juliet Julia Belair and that's for second grade um with someone like to make a motion to improve the hiring period hi honestly congratulations thank you um next we have um
077interaction is uh the art teacher and that involves what um taking the money from the foreign language teaching position which we've been unable to build for the last two years well um times but really uh stick around it's difficult because it's a part-time position so it's hard for us to find somebody to do it part-time and what was that being offered at we get offered as a full-time equipment but we just haven't and last year with the entire we were able to find somebody as a part-time person yeah because we're feeding that person's credentialing news and what they have and how they have like their entire teacher and so we get in the news and brush it down a little bit even though so it has been listed as a full-time person we just have
078not gotten invites but what was interesting today on that note because I know that's in something important and we had a group of students that worked with us a little bit on our electives and prevented last week that are udl um presentation and they had a problem because one of them was reelected so they came up with like a self-determined learning Initiative for foreign language for students who are doing some of that language learning online and made that a class that was something that we started to explore because that would be the needs of what we need is it ideal no because screen time but a small amount has been around three days a week and eventually house Facebook so so what Brian is proposing is that we eliminate that position at least temporarily and
079and at higher a full-time art teacher full time and and he's got plans for them for that whole time so um so would someone like to make a motion to um I guess eliminating music so how do we win we would have to look at it for next year any budget is in there next year that would be enough to hire next year but for the budget for the software in the airport so it wouldn't be posted anymore you're saying it right so we'd have to re-budget repost what's the next one would be using a portion of that time to make up the difference so yeah yeah right that's I wanted to know how he's going to fall [Laughter] so is that one figure of motion Sarah's gonna make that motion and all in favor
080say aye um I have a candidate that I would like to bring forward so she verbally accepted possibly so we could put forward so Lisa Roberts robots sorry sorry I would like to send it back to her again so someone like to make the motion to approve hearing Lisa Roberts for our art program [Music] s yeah she has a special ed background too which is something very beneficial for Annie yeah any position so I think that works in with what you were planning to do with her extra time resources and um skip over so we have to approve the rescinding of jbila's retirement letter did someone like to make that motion I'll make the motion expensive made the motion all in favor say aye aye thank you yeah let's see uh today we have um
081the PTO 8th grade yard signs they would like us to approve the I guess just the fundraiser which is a costing the school in the I asked me for any money you're just asking for approval to do it before so moved um [Music] that's unanimous and then we have our Eagle Scout Bridge Project which sounds awesome and uh so I will take a motion to approve Ryan Pages Eagles to Riley Riley that's contingent on a building correct for the talent correct meaning with the property owner that yeah so Sarah has made that motion all in favor say aye aye and that's unanimous as well and then um we have Athletics funds which is uh to improve raising the fees from 10 to 20 dollars um and also to allow them to um get sponsors for
082t-shirts and other signage to put out of appropriate sponsors appropriate sponsors for t-shirts uh jerseys uh besides I think we already approved the fence is that but for the T-shirt sponsors um and also you had on here to host tournaments um yes so if that all contingent fund Brian's approval as far as yeah advertisers or yeah so that's all that would need to be run through Brian okay all in favor say aye and that's unanimous as well um we have uh setting the next agenda which will be our board retreat and we already talked about that um doesn't really have an agenda per se just um we'll be talking about our goals and talking with Mary Gannon about all the celebrities okay yep and right let's see you could um and then our meeting I
083don't know if we need to say but our meeting after that is the August meeting uh yep um August 8th at 6 30 and um I guess we'll come up with an agenda for that at our Board of retreat um yeah I just wanted to um check some of these names so Lisa Roberts a new art teacher is her name spelled l-i-s-a first name okay and then I got Robert's I hope right and then it's robots oh okay so how do you spell that r-o-b e a r t s r t s okay glad I asked because I didn't get it right and then Brian I got Brian for the Eagle Scout project but I couldn't hear his last name Ryan so drop the B Ryan yeah Ryan r y a n okay same age
084p-a-g-e it's like page of the book okay and then is he building a bridge or a ridge a bridge going because I got bridge but I just wanted to make sure I was writing that right I've been online to hear I'm amazed that you that you do such a great job Becky being online every week that you actually get all this information about oh thanks hopefully I'll make it in person again someday I was going to ask about the August agenda but we're going there so I'll wait and we'll see yeah I mean this definitely Athletics will be on there but other than that of Athletics and PTO will definitely be on there so I'll make a note of that to be sure on there what we need thank you and then do we need
085an executive session I do have one note I've been doing some work on the belt so if anybody wants to sling out to the garage and brainstorm [Music] I'd love some eyes ears and ideas where we go next um Becky you can give that to Vincent or to Mark whoever you can flip a coin okay all right thank you everybody
