SBSD Helpdesk: of the system. SBSD Helpdesk: Great. SBSD Helpdesk: Good evening. I would like to, call to order. SBSD Helpdesk: the August 13th, 2025, South Burlington School Board meeting. SBSD Helpdesk: We're gonna begin with the proposed executive session. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I would entertain a motion to find that premature knowledge of what we're going to discuss. SBSD Helpdesk: Would put the, … SBSD Helpdesk: The district at significant disadvantage, and what we're going to discuss is employment of public officers and employees. SBSD Helpdesk: Receiving confidential attorney-client communication for the purpose of providing legal services to the board, and also labor negotiations. SBSD Helpdesk: Do I have a second? I'll second. SBSD Helpdesk: Any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: All those in favor? Aye. Then I would entertain a motion to enter into executive session for the purposes of
employment of a public officer or employee, to receive confidential attorney-client communication for the purpose of providing legal services to the board, and labor negotiations. SBSD Helpdesk: and demotion. SBSD Helpdesk: Second any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: All those in favor? Aye. Great. SBSD Helpdesk: So, we've now gone into executive session, and we will return at approximately 6 p.m. SBSD Helpdesk: It's reported? Yep. All right. SBSD Helpdesk: Alright, I'd like to call to order the August 13th, 2025 SBSD Helpdesk: regular meeting of the South Burlington School Board. We just exited executive session, and the first item on the agenda is announcements and amendments to the agenda. SBSD Helpdesk: Does anybody have any announcements or amendments to the agenda? SBSD Helpdesk: I do not cut out here. SBSD Helpdesk: And we get to the, … In South Africa? SBSD
Helpdesk: Okay, what is that? Someone has, rescinded their, resignation. Just wanted to share that that was rescinded. Okay, thank you. SBSD Helpdesk: And I also have an announcement from the board. We… in the last, session, we passed SBSD Helpdesk: The public participation policy. SBSD Helpdesk: And so… the way that that public participation policy works is that at business meetings, like this one. SBSD Helpdesk: Members of the public are encouraged to comment on anything on the agenda during the public comment period, which is about to happen. SBSD Helpdesk: So, anything in the discussion items, anything, anything you want to talk about. We will only take SBSD Helpdesk: The public discussion, public comment during the meeting. SBSD Helpdesk: on action items, and there's only one action item, which is, monitoring 2.6 emergency superintendent Succession. So if you
have comments about anything else, superintendent vacancy, board vacancy. SBSD Helpdesk: Anything, please do make them during the public comment that is about to happen. SBSD Helpdesk: Any other announcements or amendments? SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, great. So the next section is comments from the public. SBSD Helpdesk: So… SBSD Helpdesk: Do we have anybody on the Zoom with their hand up? I'm sorry to be on inviting. SBSD Helpdesk: are now sitting in my agendas. Okay. And again, I'd like to encourage anybody who wishes to speak to… to speak now, if they have any thoughts about the agenda. Okay. SBSD Helpdesk: Maybe I'll wait another minute. SBSD Helpdesk: Anybody on Zoom? Hand raised? No? No hand raised. Okay. Great, so we'll move on to item number 5, focus on student learning. SBSD Helpdesk: With the, student representative report. Thank
you, Ms. so on August 21st, Allie and I will be giving the communication address on the topic of a vision for supporting students. SBSD Helpdesk: Rising senior Gretchen Wirtlev will also be delivering a poem on the same topic. Thank you to Nicole for thinking of us to present this year. It's great to get to know you, and we look forward to working with you this year. SBSD Helpdesk: High school sports registration has officially closed. Tryouts are about to begin tomorrow for a lot of people, and a lot of the ball teams. So, we have volleyball, soccer, football, and many other fall sports. SBSD Helpdesk: We look forward to watching the dedicated athletes this year, and we hope the community members show up and support our student athletes. SBSD Helpdesk: The official start of school is
coming up. Freshmen and sixth graders will be back on the 26th of August, and all elementary, middle school, and high school students will return on the 27th. Elementary school families, look for information from your individual school about open houses in the couple… in the SBSD Helpdesk: A few days prior to the official first day of school. We are excited for the SPSD student community to be back together again. SBSD Helpdesk: And then… SBSD Helpdesk: That's all the announcements we have for the upcoming weeks. On another note, we briefly mentioned this, I think last week, Allie and I would like to take the rest of our time to discuss an idea we had, to encourage student engagement. So we were wondering if we could create and manage an Instagram account that keeps the student body and
the community informed on the school board and district activities. SBSD Helpdesk: specifically relating to things that affect students. This was something that we'd like to make now, and then pass on to other suitable reps in the future. SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah, and we also took the time to outline some of the steps, and, like, types of posts we would include if SBSD Helpdesk: We were allowed to make this, so first we'd create the account, the bio would include our contact information, our school emails, to increase access to our communication with us. SBSD Helpdesk: and then also a link to the school board website, so that people can find that easily. Then we'd start spreading the word to the community around us and start posting. So some of our posts would include, like, the student representative report
after each board meeting, so that people could look at that, information on important district events that are happening, more information on important policies or bills that are affecting SBSD Helpdesk: students both at the local level and at the state level, like the phone bill that's been talked about, and new district lines, stuff like that. SBSD Helpdesk: And then also increasing communication during budget season. We have a lot of misinformation and anxiety among the student body, oftentimes, and we think that having a social media account where we can talk about this directly to students will create a more unclear understanding of budget happenings. SBSD Helpdesk: And then we have a few questions, which would be, one, do we need official approval to make the account? And two, would we need approval before each post, or would
we have SBSD Helpdesk: Control over that. SBSD Helpdesk: So how does the board feel about the general idea? SBSD Helpdesk: So, the reason they need our permission, just starting to surprise them. SBSD Helpdesk: I just generally, when students are posting to the student body, they usually have to get approval, but I don't know how it works here. SBSD Helpdesk: I know things need to… Yeah, I would assume that there would need to be the approval, and I would… Yeah, which I just think is, like, a… SBSD Helpdesk: check, right? We know you're gonna do a great job. I think it's a great idea, yeah. It's a great idea, yeah, I love that. I just asked one question, which is, it will be private or public? Like… It would be public to everyone. That, like, I
think that would be a good conversation about if our email should be on it, if it's public, I agree. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I think that could be, like, a further discussion. And that's mostly for your protection, that is not a commentary on your dog, like, so if I were to start an Instagram, I would have to have… SBSD Helpdesk: So I don't really think that. So I think it's a great idea. SBSD Helpdesk: So should we ask the superintendent for a recommendation about how to proceed on that? SBSD Helpdesk: Let me ask that? Oh, great. Absolutely. SBSD Helpdesk: Let's… thank you very much for your active… SBSD Helpdesk: Throw a very proactive approach on them, that's great. SBSD Helpdesk: Anything else? That is it. Yeah, that's all we have. Great. SBSD Helpdesk: Thanks, Clinton. SBSD
Helpdesk: So, we will move to Item 6, Action Item. SBSD Helpdesk: Monitoring of 2.6 emergency superintendent succession, and would you like to talk about that? SBSD Helpdesk: Great. So… SBSD Helpdesk: This is to protect the board from sudden loss of superintendent services, and so it's to ensure that there is someone in place if the superintendent or acting superintendent or interim superintendent isn't available. For this time period, it would just be the acting superintendent. And so, … SBSD Helpdesk: the recommendations, for, two executives have been identified, to serve as our emergency successors. That's Michael Carter, who's the Executive Director of Learning. Suzanne Grundeling, who's the principal at, Frederick Tunnel Middle School. SBSD Helpdesk: And that they would serve the essential functions for emergency succession. SBSD Helpdesk: Nicole and Suzanne are both qualified to serve as interim
successors. SBSD Helpdesk: And the current board meeting structure supports a 60-day review period with you all needing twice in the comments. SBSD Helpdesk: Is there any questions from the board about this? SBSD Helpdesk: Can you explain what are the qualifications that are required to serve? SBSD Helpdesk: capacity? Yeah, so in order… so in order to be a superintendent, is that what you're asking, or…? So, you don't… in order to be a, SBSD Helpdesk: someone in this position. To be a… to be a, superintendent, you need to have your master's degree, you need to have, I believe it's 3 or more years of administrative, SBSD Helpdesk: experience, and you need to have 5 years, again, I'm doing this off the top of my head, but of classroom experience. So that's to be a superintendent. To serve
in the position of… to be in succession, you don't have to have that experience. You need to have administrative experience, you need to have knowledge of what's going on in the… in the district. It's typically folks who, SBSD Helpdesk: Are working in central offices who can be available, but also we… SBSD Helpdesk: both Nicole and Susan have their superintendent's licenses. SBSD Helpdesk: So that's really helpful to have folks that have that, that, that knowledge and experience. So to have the superintendent's license, you need to have the education, the administrative experience, and leaders in the classroom. Correct. And are they the only two across the entire district that have that? Besides myself, they are the only two that I'm aware of who have that. SBSD Helpdesk: Who, who, who have that, presence. SBSD Helpdesk: Any other
questions? I know you did it off the top of your head. Is Sarah… SBSD Helpdesk: a site or a place where those qualifications are listed? Yeah, I can get that to you. It's the… the Vermont Agency of Education has that information, and then when you are applying for it, it goes into bigger, larger detail in regards… in regard to what they're actually required. SBSD Helpdesk: So that's how I have it. But I'd be glad to give it to you. Yeah, I just put that down as interesting for me. SBSD Helpdesk: And is that… is there a requirement for having a current licensure? Does it expire? Is that something that they need to keep up on? Yeah, so, … SBSD Helpdesk: off? Is it every 3 years, Nicole? Every 7. Every 7. Yeah, every 7. SBSD
Helpdesk: I had a question, which is, looking into the future, is the idea to amend this again after you, Kristen, return to your typical job, or…? I think that that would be up to the interim superintendent, and what decisions… SBSD Helpdesk: they… they want to make… we don't necessarily… we don't have to make changes, it can continue to be Nicole and Suzanne. I think that's just a… SBSD Helpdesk: a decision that they, I think should be. Okay, I wasn't sure. Like you said, this is in place for the current situation. It's just important, I think, for you all to know that this isn't… this doesn't have to go beyond, the… the time that we've allotted, and it can go further if that's the decision of the group. Again, I think it's important for the SBSD
Helpdesk: the interim to have some say in what that looks like. And we have, you know. SBSD Helpdesk: We haven't had this many folks with their superintendent license, and so it affords us opportunity to have, you know, other people. SBSD Helpdesk: Thank you. Yeah, absolutely. SBSD Helpdesk: Are there any more questions? SBSD Helpdesk: So… monitor this, we have… SBSD Helpdesk: That might help a little bit. Fine. You may absolutely is okay. SBSD Helpdesk: And do we have to take a motion to monitor it? You should take a motion to monitor it, yes. Okay. So, I would entertain a motion to monitor SBSD Helpdesk: 2.6 Emergency Superintendent Succession. SBSD Helpdesk: I wanted to monitor 2.6. All right. And, so do I have a second? Second. SBSD Helpdesk: Any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: Alright, so… SBSD Helpdesk: So
she wouldn't button. SBSD Helpdesk: Succession. SBSD Helpdesk: Right. Are you saying that I should read this? That we're agreeing that the filter was abroad. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, so, … SBSD Helpdesk: We're not monitoring right now. Oh, we're not monitoring. Oh, we don't have a monitor. Okay. Yeah, we're just saying that these are the two people that'll be at the succession. Alright, so let's let that motion fail. Yeah. And let's just say, I would entertain a motion to, … SBSD Helpdesk: to… identify, Nicole Carter and Suzanne Grundling as the emergency successors. SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah, no second. Okay. Any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: … All those in favor? SBSD Helpdesk: Aye. The motion passes. Yeah, absolutely. SBSD Helpdesk: So, at this point, we are… SBSD Helpdesk: We are 35 minutes early. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I don't… I expect
that people who wanted to join about the superintendent vacancy would probably be joining SBSD Helpdesk: Not for at least another 15 minutes. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I might propose that we take a 15-minute recess, or maybe, like, about 20 minutes. What if we just… the consent agenda, what if we just did 9, 10, and 11 now, and then that should bring us to 45? And we could also do, agenda planning. SBSD Helpdesk: Yes, yes, so 9, 10, 11, so 10, yeah, so… Oh, yeah, oh yeah, you're right. Well, maybe we shouldn't do the superintendent report until… well, no, people… SBSD Helpdesk: I don't think we should do the superintendent report until… SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah, in that sequence. But I think the consent agenda moves forward. And your end concern about people joining for a specific time?
Is that what you're saying? So, the people who… SBSD Helpdesk: Said that they would be willing to serve on the committee. SBSD Helpdesk: I sent them an email saying that I expected to be discussing this at around 6.30. But can't they just watch the… Reporting? The recording. SBSD Helpdesk: I'm fine with that, because it's… we're not taking public comment on it, so… Yeah, so it's just more or less an announcement. SBSD Helpdesk: Right. I'm fine, I'm fine with that. SBSD Helpdesk: Unless you want to do consent agenda now. Sure, let's do that. We can go back. And what about the concept of talking about agenda planning now? Yeah, you can do 10 and 11 now. Yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: Do you know if we have to…? Because we're changing the agenda, that's been… you're just going
out of order, we're not really changing anything, we're just going… Well, we could say two-thirds vote to change it. Okay, so… SBSD Helpdesk: And do I need it? But I don't need a motion for that. I can just… I don't… I don't believe that you… I'm in agree… in agreement with you, Laura. I just think it would be, you know, we're gonna think that it's been posted, it may be good to just… SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah, I mean, I would only ask, why do we need to change it if there's not going to be a public comment? Just stick with the sequence, so you don't have to… SBSD Helpdesk: We don't have to. That sort of sense. I know what he was saying, it's the… SBSD Helpdesk: Certain people who would have it. SBSD Helpdesk: expressed
interest. SBSD Helpdesk: We're told that they… SBSD Helpdesk: We were discussing this about 6.30. I think we stay on course, and if people want to call in, the meeting starts at 6, and we may be moving at a faster pace. Well, my own, and I will definitely let this… I will not bring this up one more time, but I don't think it hurt. I think that if I were a member of the community who was interested in superintendent SBSD Helpdesk: vacancy, and saw on the agenda that that started at 645, and… SBSD Helpdesk: we just handle agenda planning and consent agenda now, pushed us a little bit closer to 630, I would appreciate that. I don't know why we have to keep the same order. Okay. SBSD Helpdesk: Seamus, I would say, if I had
given my… if I had told community members in an email that it was going to be a specific time, I would want to stick to that as well, so I understand what you're saying. Yeah, it's on the agenda at 6.45. I told them to show up, or 6… yeah, I told them to show up at 6.30, and we're… but we're not… So let's do agenda Hinding and consent agenda. Is that okay with… was anybody affected that? Okay, so we're going to move… SBSD Helpdesk: We're gonna move agenda planning and consent agenda up. SBSD Helpdesk: To now. So, so first thing, agenda for the August 20th meeting. SBSD Helpdesk: I didn't get that. SBSD Helpdesk: So… SBSD Helpdesk: Share my screen… SBSD Helpdesk: So this is what we currently have. SBSD Helpdesk: So, new content for…
well, obviously, the big thing on the 20th is the candidate interviews for the school board. SBSD Helpdesk: And then, for the discussion items, we have discussing new content for the school board webpage. SBSD Helpdesk: Raci, Concept of Community Engagement Committee. SBSD Helpdesk: We also have Tassant Update, which is awesome. SBSD Helpdesk: … SBSD Helpdesk: And one question that I had, because as you can see, this meeting is currently very long, is I was suggesting that we SBSD Helpdesk: Change the order here, and have the… SBSD Helpdesk: Candidate interviews at 5, going to executive session at 6, SBSD Helpdesk: And then cover… and then only do one executive session, and then announce The candidates at 7. SBSD Helpdesk: I really like that idea, because having done the interview myself, it was… it's a long, like, to
wait till, like, after 10, so I think, like, making that decision sooner rather than later is a… SBSD Helpdesk: just somebody's courtesy, I agree. And I think that the concern that Krista raised, would you like to raise it? The only concern that I had is that it… SBSD Helpdesk: The feedback we've been getting is that changing the meeting times when folks are expecting the meeting to be at 6 is feedback I've received, and so my only other question was whether we wanted to have the final… the first executive session. SBSD Helpdesk: I was gonna say the same thing, 5 o'clock is kind of early, people are expecting to become there at that time. Well, the only thing is that so far, there are only two… SBSD Helpdesk: people who have applied, and so I think
that… There is still time. But I think that anybody who's… so I'm saying that if many people had applied expecting to be interviewed at 6.30, then I would be particularly concerned, but in this case, I think… SBSD Helpdesk: at least the people who are being interviewed, we could put it on the application starting today that actually it's going to be interviews at 5 instead of whatever it said in the agenda. So, I think that we could significantly shorten the meeting, but… SBSD Helpdesk: you know, Kristen makes a good point, and so I guess it's up to us to decide how to balance that. SBSD Helpdesk: So, you're saying 5 o'clock would be the interviews? So, 5 o'clock interview, 6 o'clock executive session, we cover making our decision, and also all the other stuff that's in
our executive session. I don't think the interviews are going to take an hour. They shouldn't take an hour, because everyone's going to be… the way that we've done it is that everyone's timed, like, you get the… SBSD Helpdesk: like, you've got 3 questions, everybody gets 2 minutes, and then you get a, like, a final 2 minutes to say, and then… it should go pretty quickly, like, 10 minutes a person. I don't think… So we could start it at 5.30? SBSD Helpdesk: And then we can do 530 to 6 interviews. You know, you have two now, it's still open, we don't know how many. We might only be doing two, we might be doing 5, 6, so… SBSD Helpdesk: If it closes on… I think Monday. SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah. Where I see this being short, even
if it's SBSD Helpdesk: 5 people. It won't… it won't take… it really won't… SBSD Helpdesk: Well, if it's 5 people, and you're doing 10 minutes a person, but… Yeah, I guess, I mean, I guess… But we're not discussing. Oh, we're not… there's no discussion, so it'll be just… SBSD Helpdesk: … So, did anybody object to putting it at 5 o'clock, given the concerns that we've heard? SBSD Helpdesk: I feel… I'm not certain that's necessarily the right thing to do. I would… I would argue for cutting some of those discussion items. SBSD Helpdesk: That we have on the agenda. SBSD Helpdesk: I know they're important, but we just… with the school board vacancies needing results and the superintendent needing to be built, I just feel like those discussions can be pushed to a different thing. Sure,
but note that that will still… and we can certainly do that, but that will… that will still have us having two different executive sessions, which might also mean that the lawyer has to stay all the way to the end. SBSD Helpdesk: Which is also something I'm trying to avoid. Exactly. SBSD Helpdesk: And that executive session that we have 5 is a projected executive session. I don't understand, why does the lawyer need to be there for us to decide on the school board? He doesn't. He doesn't, yeah, that's why I need to do everything. SBSD Helpdesk: I guess you're right. If we wanted to go, that's true. We… the lawyer wouldn't have to stay. She does not need to be there, yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: So, in other words, the lawyer would stay till 6, and we
would just have an executive session much, much later. And if we… if we do what Emily suggested, like, maybe just, yeah, like… SBSD Helpdesk: Like, we're on, like, down four weeks now for the… We can also move the executive session to right after the interviews, and then we can return to regular session, do the rest. SBSD Helpdesk: So that, given your point about the lawyer not having to stay for the second executive session, I think I agree that we don't have to do that idea. So we keep it 5 o'clock executive session, 6 o'clock to 620, comments from the public. SBSD Helpdesk: 6.20, student representative report, 6.30, candidate interviews, and then at 7.30, we go into executive session. SBSD Helpdesk: And then, we come back from executive session and do everything. The reports by the
board? And I think that, to Emily's point, I think you could probably remove some of those discussion items or push them to the next agenda. Yeah. Because we do have so much that we're covering. SBSD Helpdesk: So, let's start with the idea. So, are people okay with moving executive session to right after the interviews? SBSD Helpdesk: To decide on who's going. Yes, yes. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, and then for discussion items, what do we want to keep? SBSD Helpdesk: I, I would say, like, this, this is all backburner stuff. I mean, I think… I am really feeling the sense of, like, keeping the focus on another superintendent search. Okay, so should we… Board members. That's going to be a lot. SBSD Helpdesk: Two new people, yeah. Okay, so we do need to add superintendent search to
the discussion items, but we delete everything else. Yes. Will you cut it and paste it into… SBSD Helpdesk: Another agenda. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, so… Great. SBSD Helpdesk: … Any other… I will… SBSD Helpdesk: do this later. Any other… oh, get rid of that. Well, I guess, sorry, you'll move the action item to just after the new executive session time. Would you move those two together, Seamus? Would that be… SBSD Helpdesk: come out of the executive session. SBSD Helpdesk: But that's for the new virus, for the new, for the new seeds. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, great. SBSD Helpdesk: … Anything else for August 20th? SBSD Helpdesk: The only thing I put Toussaint in my report, just so that we could cut down on time, it may not be me who's sharing… it may be January, or it
may be Toussaint, or in the process of looking at some decisions, but wanting to ensure that… I heard what Laura said at the last meeting, which was SBSD Helpdesk: really just sticking to the points and giving you some good information in a short, condensed period of time. So, I thought that during the active superintendent time. SBSD Helpdesk: It looked like a long beach, so I… SBSD Helpdesk: But I think that's it. Awesome. And I'm very excited to hear it's not updated. Do we delete reports from the school board? Do we have any anticipated reports? SBSD Helpdesk: Actually, now I think it's… Alright, let's good. SBSD Helpdesk: Alright. SBSD Helpdesk: Now, agenda planning, future agenda items, so let's move on to future agenda items. SBSD Helpdesk: I will hold up… the school board, Website… SBSD Helpdesk:
And if you go to meeting dates, … SBSD Helpdesk: September 3rd and September 17th are the two next meetings. SBSD Helpdesk: And so I would suggest that we're probably gonna… we're definitely gonna need those meetings for all the things at the beginning of the year, and I would suggest that we do another one that is a public… that is a community forum. SBSD Helpdesk: And I think the community forum topic could be… one of them could be, for example, superintendent search. People can come and talk to us about the superintendent search. SBSD Helpdesk: But… so, we don't have to decide what the topic would be, but I think that we should decide whether we want to have more than two meetings in September. SBSD Helpdesk: And then we can announce it as far in advance
as possible. SBSD Helpdesk: So, for example, … September… SBSD Helpdesk: September… SBSD Helpdesk: right now, it is the 3rd and the 17th, right? The 3rd and the 17th. So, for example, we could do… SBSD Helpdesk: on the 10th. SBSD Helpdesk: How do people feel about saying that we'll do a community forum in their tempted? SBSD Helpdesk: Well, how does that jive with when we, … SBSD Helpdesk: From all of our interviews and committees are meeting. SBSD Helpdesk: Because keep in mind, we also have that happening. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I mean, you know I'm an advocate of having community forums, but I also don't want to overload folks. Sure. So, the answer is… SBSD Helpdesk: The meetings for the Superintendent Search Committee are August 21st, August 28th, and September 4th. SBSD Helpdesk: Those are the big
meetings. SBSD Helpdesk: And, … I think that, … SBSD Helpdesk: what was it, September 17th was the other one? So, we're gonna need a special meeting, I think, in the mid-September. SBSD Helpdesk: We probably cannot wait until the 17th. SBSD Helpdesk: We're almost certainly going to need one during the week of the 10th, and so why don't we just say now. SBSD Helpdesk: That it's gonna… that there's gonna be one. SBSD Helpdesk: That's right. But, will that be a community forum, or are we committing to what kind of… Yeah, you're right. Maybe it should just be… SBSD Helpdesk: We could switch the 17th to a Canadian farm. You could switch, right? SBSD Helpdesk: That's our fears that will be negative. SBSD Helpdesk: I'm leaving the week of the… SBSD Helpdesk: The only thing is when
are we making offers? By the time The 17th rolls around. SBSD Helpdesk: I believe that we will already have chosen super… Superintendent, so it will not be an opportunity for the public to talk, but maybe that's fine. Maybe if the public wants to talk to us, they can… like, if we have to… SBSD Helpdesk: have a meeting. SBSD Helpdesk: There's, I think, the… what's the last day? The 12th, I think we have to have a superintendent approvals by the 12th. Certainly. Secondly, yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: So you're gonna need a meeting… if you don't get it done on the 3rd, you're gonna need a meeting that next week. Right, and we can't get it done on the 3rd because… SBSD Helpdesk: the timeline, which I can share again, … This is the right one. SBSD Helpdesk:
Yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: So… Actually, it should be the forest. SBSD Helpdesk: … the first round of interviews doesn't even happen until after our third… September 3rd meeting. SBSD Helpdesk: So, proposal on the table is, let's schedule a special meeting for September 10th. SBSD Helpdesk: And then, that's the first thing. Does anybody object to that? SBSD Helpdesk: That'll be right around when we need to be making decisions about… Could you have… do we have to have an executive session that day? Could you have an extended public comment, like, 5.30 to 615 or something on that day? Sure. And then, … SBSD Helpdesk: Yep. Yep. SBSD Helpdesk: Was this amended to be correct? Because I know we had the wrong timeline the first time we looked at this, right? I think it was, because it's saying that
we just notify AOE of finals candidate week, September 8th, so that would be Monday, September 8th. SBSD Helpdesk: Wednesday, September 10th. SBSD Helpdesk: So it's… so this is… it's confusing, because really this should be, you know, 8 to the 12, or… Okay, so round… round 2 and round 3 are the same group, basically. SBSD Helpdesk: I guess so. SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I don't think there's much doubt that we need a meeting on the 10th. Does anybody… does everybody agree with that? SBSD Helpdesk: And then furthermore, we should have extended public comment on that day. SBSD Helpdesk: Right, if needed. And I'm thinking maybe start public comment at… That's fine. SBSD Helpdesk: max 30. SBSD Helpdesk: Well, sure, okay. But I don't know. We can… we can work out the agenda with Kristen.
Okay, okay. Okay, okay, great. So, we agreed on the 10th. Now my question is, is there any interest in us preparing an agenda for the 17th as though it's a community forum? SBSD Helpdesk: So you're gonna change the 17th from the meeting at the beginning 4th? Yep. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, and I don't think we have to decide on topics now, but we want topics for that community forum. SBSD Helpdesk: And those are easy to discuss, because it's scheduling. Is that going to be our first meeting with a new superintendent, though? SBSD Helpdesk: Yes. It is, and two new board members. SBSD Helpdesk: What date is that? So, I'm wondering… One of the board members being on board for the 3rd? Yes. I'm just sorry, you're ready. SBSD Helpdesk: Or maybe we should… I just don't
know if that's the right time to talk with our… SBSD Helpdesk: videos, and just pointing out that it would be personally. SBSD Helpdesk: Well, but maybe… SBSD Helpdesk: I don't think we should be afraid of it. I don't think… we're just talking… they're not monsters. SBSD Helpdesk: you know. I don't think anybody's monster. I just didn't know if we wanted to do, like, a traditional meeting as our first video. That's all I was wondering. No, I think it's totally right, but I think… I think it's fine to have a pretty… SBSD Helpdesk: Interested in a meeting, where we hear… we really hear from people. SBSD Helpdesk: The superintendent could really introduce themselves. And if people want to meet the new superintendent, that will increase attendance. SBSD Helpdesk: Great point. So, September 17th, should we draft
an agenda as though we're a community forum? SBSD Helpdesk: I'm fine with it. Any objections? SBSD Helpdesk: Great. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, and then, so, any more agenda planning? SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, and then let's move on to consent agenda, and for those who are just joining us, we decided to… SBSD Helpdesk: delay talking about the interim superintendent search, and we skipped ahead to agenda Planning Consent Agenda, because we were running ahead of time, and so now we're going to do consent agenda, and then we'll return back to, discussion of superintendent vacancy. So we're going to do consent agenda now. SBSD Helpdesk: There was an update to the consent agenda. Would you like to repeat that? Sure. So, … SBSD Helpdesk: Catherine Finley has rescinded her, resignation, and she'll remain a doctor. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay. SBSD Helpdesk:
So that's great news. Great. Are there any questions on the AP orders? SBSD Helpdesk: Or is it minutes? SBSD Helpdesk: And… Do I take the functionality? Yes. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay. So, yeah, okay, so I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda. SBSD Helpdesk: Dad motions, do I have a second? SBSD Helpdesk: All right, Laura, any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: All those in favor? SBSD Helpdesk: Bye. Great. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay. What's the action? So the action item on there is… SBSD Helpdesk: Right. There is a check to tri-state folding partitions in the amount of $66,000. SBSD Helpdesk: Sorry, what was that called? It's the, it's the accounts payable, as I know, but what was it called? Tri-state folded partitions. SBSD Helpdesk: Let's tell you what it's for. It's for new, partitions between the stalls and
the restrooms at the Total Mills do. They're great. It's awesome. Fantastic. Yeah, it's really great. SBSD Helpdesk: Barbie songs, that's why I do. SBSD Helpdesk: So, just so that we clear, I… SBSD Helpdesk: I think I want to do another… let's… I'd entertain a motion to specifically approve the accounts payable order check to tri-State Boulder Partitions in the amount of $66,000. Do I have a second? SBSD Helpdesk: Second. Any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: … All those in favor? Aye. Great. SBSD Helpdesk: All right, so now we're going to move back to, discussion item 1, Superintendent Vacancy Update. SBSD Helpdesk: So, at our last meeting, we charged a committee SBSD Helpdesk: to identify candidates with the assistance of Elaine, Pinckney and the Vermont School Board Association. SBSD Helpdesk: … We also sent out a community survey SBSD
Helpdesk: about what people thought was important for the interim superintendent, and the last time I looked, we had about 356 responses. SBSD Helpdesk: Of those, we had approximately 15 volunteers to serve on the Intern Search Committee. SBSD Helpdesk: … I… SBSD Helpdesk: reflecting on the size of the committee that we charged last week, I think that we should consider, and especially the fact that there is representation of one principal, one teacher, one… SBSD Helpdesk: … SBSD Helpdesk: one staff member. I think that we should consider reducing the charge so that we're saying one student rep, sorry, one, SBSD Helpdesk: One legislator slash City council member slash senator, and one community member. SBSD Helpdesk: What do you guys think about… SBSD Helpdesk: Reducing it from 2 of each of those to 1 of each of those.
SBSD Helpdesk: It aligns with a directive from the VSBA that we hired. SBSD Helpdesk: For the, the, the size of the committee, and I do think you make a good point. One teacher that's… SBSD Helpdesk: I think that it makes… it makes it more accurate. SBSD Helpdesk: She's on the committee. Yes, and that's a good point, that the committee SBSD Helpdesk: Members are not going to fault. SBSD Helpdesk: Instead, the role of the committee members is to, … you know, help SBSD Helpdesk: may help the board members who are on that committee make a decision about who to recommend. So the decision with who makes it out of committee will rest with the board members on that committee. SBSD Helpdesk: Which also… so it's important, in terms of they have a voice, but not a
vocal. Right. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, so are we okay with, … so I think what we should do is we should, make a new motion that slightly changes the charge of the committee. SBSD Helpdesk: … So… Let's do that. SBSD Helpdesk: … So, I would entertain a motion to… Create… SBSD Helpdesk: An interim superintendent screening committee. SBSD Helpdesk: to work in collaboration with the VSBA and Elaine Pinckney, review candidates, select candidates for interview, determine finalists, and recommend finalists to the board, or repost the position, with a composition of three board members. SBSD Helpdesk: One principal, as recommended by the principals, One central office. SBSD Helpdesk: educational side, recommended by coworkers. One central office. SBSD Helpdesk: Facilities maintenance business IT, as recommended by coworkers, the HR director, one teacher, as recommended by the teachers union, one support
staff, as recommended by the support staff union, one student representative. SBSD Helpdesk: the acting superintendent. SBSD Helpdesk: the city manager, One city councilor, house member, or senator, and one community member. So when's the total member? SBSD Helpdesk: 1, 2, 3… SBSD Helpdesk: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14. Versus 77, which was what was suggested by the DSPF. Yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: Do I have a… does anybody want to make that motion? SBSD Helpdesk: One more second. Okay, any discussion? SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, so, any, all those in favor? SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, so that's the… that's the charge. The committee is going to be 14 people, and then… so, … SBSD Helpdesk: Since the committee is made up of What could be considered SBSD Helpdesk: public officials, you know, quasi-public officials. We did discuss their
individual responses in, the… SBSD Helpdesk: executive session earlier today. And the… SBSD Helpdesk: The people that we have named. SBSD Helpdesk: our, our, our picks are, Vicki Abramson. SBSD Helpdesk: As a community member, and Thomas Chittenden as a… legislator… SBSD Helpdesk: City council member, representative. SBSD Helpdesk: And so we will need to do follow-up with you guys to figure out who you want to go on the committee, and then also, we need to ask the… SBSD Helpdesk: all the other groups. So I… I will follow up with everybody who needs to nominate somebody. And then the first meeting of that will be on… SBSD Helpdesk: We'll be in about a week. SBSD Helpdesk: That's on the 21st? Yep. And you'll reach out to Tom and… SBSD Helpdesk: Vicki, let them know that they are. Yes.
And have we decided on which board members… That's the last question. Can you repeat the activity number, please? Vicki… Abramson. Abrahamson. SBSD Helpdesk: … People on the… so board members on the committee. SBSD Helpdesk: nominate each other. Does anybody want to nominate anybody to be in the committee? SBSD Helpdesk: Is there anybody who feels that they don't need to be on the page? SBSD Helpdesk: I don't need to be on the table. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay. So, essentially, we're saying… And is there a chance that I should not be on it? SBSD Helpdesk: Well, sure, it should be up. SBSD Helpdesk: Thank you, Laurel, and thank you. SBSD Helpdesk: Fabulous. SBSD Helpdesk: since, you know, the beginning, working with the BSBA. SBSD Helpdesk: But we need to be, smarter. SBSD Helpdesk: continue with that. What can
you ensure the amendment. SBSD Helpdesk: I'm happy to refer to the chat. SBSD Helpdesk: Tom donkey to do it, because you're on the… SBSD Helpdesk: labor negotiations Committee, so I'm happy to do that. SBSD Helpdesk: So, are we fine with that, Laura, Seamus, Jen? SBSD Helpdesk: Something says, okay. SBSD Helpdesk: Great. SBSD Helpdesk: … Any other discussion on the superintendent vacancy? SBSD Helpdesk: Oh, I'm sorry, but this is, at the beginning of the meeting, we said that since it's not an action item, we're not gonna take any public comment on it. So I'm sorry that we will not be recognizing anybody right now. … SBSD Helpdesk: Do you think that we should consider the action to recharge the committee, wishing to consider it an action item? SBSD Helpdesk: It was a discussion item, though. SBSD
Helpdesk: Well, the… But you're saying… okay, I… SBSD Helpdesk: Okay. I think we can maybe be… SBSD Helpdesk: I think that the feedback… okay, so, … SBSD Helpdesk: We are going to revise our agendas. SBSD Helpdesk: That's something that we have already talked about doing now that we've passed a public participation policy, and it will… SBSD Helpdesk: be much clearer about where we expect to take comment and where we expect not to. Another piece of feedback that I've gotten from a former board chair is that we should mark things as… if we think that there might be SBSD Helpdesk: Like, the lawyers told us that we could take an action like the one that we just did, in a discussion item. SBSD Helpdesk: However, the advice from the former board chair was, well, you might
as well mark it as discussion and possible action. SBSD Helpdesk: And so, I think especially because we're significantly… SBSD Helpdesk: Ahead of time, I think that it would be good to… SBSD Helpdesk: like Kristen is saying, since we did take a motion during this, I think it'll be fine to take… As long as we're holding people to time, just out of things. Yeah, so let's… let's do that. So let's do 3 minutes. SBSD Helpdesk: From each person who wants to comment on this. SBSD Helpdesk: I've been able to eat some… SBSD Helpdesk: I think 2 minutes, I mean… Okay. SBSD Helpdesk: So, do we have hands raised in the… There's just two hands. Two hands. So, could you recognize somebody? SBSD Helpdesk: Sure. So, would you please recognize Fritz? Fritz Burkhardt: Can you hear me
at this moment? Fritz Burkhardt: Can you hear me? SBSD Helpdesk: He should be… should be there. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, cool. Fritz Burkhardt: Can you hear me at this point? SBSD Helpdesk: Yes. Fritz Burkhardt: Okay, … I'm really surprised by this. Fritz Burkhardt: I am surprised because it appears to me, that a couple things have happened with this. Fritz Burkhardt: One is that, you'd already had a discussion outside of public comment period, outside of, your regular meeting, to make a decision about the number of people that you actually are putting on this committee. Fritz Burkhardt: That is evident based upon the fact that you know who the people you are selecting, and it's lower than what you discussed at the last board meeting, what you opened up for public comment. Fritz Burkhardt: And… I am… Fritz
Burkhardt: I'm shocked. I mean, we talked about elements of trust, and what I'm seeing is a school board which just said that they don't even want to necessarily hear from the public because they're going to make all the decisions purely on their own. Fritz Burkhardt: So, I'm… I'm upset. Fritz Burkhardt: I'm disappointed. Fritz Burkhardt: And I'm also furious, because, it seems that this board has been… worked very hard to limit public comment, limit involvement. Fritz Burkhardt: And it's doing whatever they can, and seems to make agreements, which they're not allowed to make outside of public meeting, outside of public meeting. Fritz Burkhardt: I'm really disappointed with you. Fritz Burkhardt: And I think you really need to do better. Fritz Burkhardt: I think you should change your decision. You should do what you actually agreed on
last week. Fritz Burkhardt: And you should also be clear to everybody about what you actually discussed. Fritz Burkhardt: In executive session, which should have been in public meeting. Fritz Burkhardt: Thank you for your time. SBSD Helpdesk: Thanks, … SBSD Helpdesk: I would encourage you to submit an open meeting law complaint if you believe that open meeting law is broken. Fritz Burkhardt: I don't want to have to do that for you. SBSD Helpdesk: We shouldn't have to do this. SBSD Helpdesk: Don't you switch to the next thing? Kate Jarvis. Kate Jarvis: Hi there, can you hear me? SBSD Helpdesk: Yes. Kate Jarvis: Okay, great. So, I appreciate that, Kate Jarvis: you know, having 17 people on a search committee seemed a bit unwieldy, so I understand, perhaps, that that is the reason for wanting to, you
know, cut down some of the representatives by about 3 so that you can get to 14, which I understand Laura is still… Kate Jarvis: 7 more than what, Elaine had suggested. I just have a question, which I know you might not necessarily be able to answer now, but just wanted to ask about the community, representative, Vicki Abramson. I'm not familiar with that name. Kate Jarvis: And I just wondered if she is someone who has Kate Jarvis: children that are currently in the school system, because I think that's pretty important. … And, … Kate Jarvis: That is it, so thank you very much. SBSD Helpdesk: Thank you. SBSD Helpdesk: Alright, I think that was all the people who had pulled a comment under this section. Okay. SBSD Helpdesk: State of the payment. SBSD Helpdesk: Oh, no,
I don't wanna… I don't wanna respond. SBSD Helpdesk: … So… SBSD Helpdesk: Do we want to move off of, superintendent vacancy? I can, one update that I did get from Elaine is that she has met with all of the principals and also with central office staff. SBSD Helpdesk: So I believe that… and I believe that she has spoken to some candidates already, although I do not have confirmation from her on that point. SBSD Helpdesk: Any other… Alright, so the next, discussion item… Is school board vacancy. SBSD Helpdesk: I think the most important thing is that, there were many volunteers for the Interim Superintendent Search Committee, and we would love if some of them also submitted applications SBSD Helpdesk: To fill the school board vacancy. SBSD Helpdesk: … SBSD Helpdesk: Those applications are due in 5
days, on August 18th, and a link is on the school board webpage. SBSD Helpdesk: And then the interviews, as we have just decided, will be at 6.30pm on August 20th. SBSD Helpdesk: And that term would be from September until March. SBSD Helpdesk: Any other thoughts about school board vacancy? SBSD Helpdesk: Those interviews are actually going to happen during open session. Yes. Just to confirm. And the interviews are during… are during open session. SBSD Helpdesk: And actually, this is a great time to talk about it. So… SBSD Helpdesk: She's an honor. It's all nuts. SBSD Helpdesk: … When we interview people for the school board. SBSD Helpdesk: We've heard a suggestion that instead of having one person go through all the questions. SBSD Helpdesk: And then the next person will go all through all the questions.
It might be more comfortable for people, to go, first question, everybody answers, second question, everybody answers. SBSD Helpdesk: And then if… I think what they did at Town Meeting TV, when they interviewed us, they started and they basically said, okay, question one, speaker ABC. Question two, speaker CBA. Question three, speaker ABC. Three minutes or something for each question. SBSD Helpdesk: So… SBSD Helpdesk: Are we okay with doing it in that format? So, people who may be interested in applying for the school board vacancy, it would be, … SBSD Helpdesk: You know, you're being interviewed in open session, but you don't just have to sit down and say a whole bunch of things SBSD Helpdesk: one after the other. You know, you're gonna be sitting next to the other people who are applying for the vacancy,
and you each get to respond to a question, and then you each respond to the next question. So I think it should be a little lower stress. SBSD Helpdesk: Any other… Oh, it's on. SBSD Helpdesk: School board vacancy. SBSD Helpdesk: Alright, 5 days. SBSD Helpdesk: So the next item on the agenda is a concept of a community engagement committee. SBSD Helpdesk: So do we have any, … SBSD Helpdesk: Dan, would you like to talk about that idea? SBSD Helpdesk: Well, when we initially… SBSD Helpdesk: Part of what we need to do is we need to update, amend our policy on community engagement. I think similar to public comment, there is a… there is a gap there regarding what exactly we will be doing to improve community engagement. SBSD Helpdesk: And so the thought is that
we come together, figure out who on the board is interested in helping to support this, is the first step, and then building out what does that look like? And, … SBSD Helpdesk: Really don't have much more beyond that. SBSD Helpdesk: You know, but it would, you know, whether we're doing community forums. SBSD Helpdesk: That would be one thing. The opportunity to, you know, perhaps be present at sporting events, that you might have community, you know, school board members that might show up on a quorum, but, you know, two or three people that might be at school board meetings, or I'm sorry, at, SBSD Helpdesk: Sporting events, for school events that are happening, and we have a table that can be set up, but just an opportunity for the community to engage. SBSD Helpdesk: That's also
outside of a formal setting. SBSD Helpdesk: So that's… that was… SBSD Helpdesk: Kind of where we were… I think we were talking about that back in… seems like forever ago now. Yeah. From where I sit, and I know you all know this, but behind the scenes, doing the superintendent search has been pretty intense. SBSD Helpdesk: And, I… I think, absolutely. I don't… I don't think I've got… SBSD Helpdesk: I can't focus on this until after… until after the intern's been determined. Right, but that was the thought. But it's a great idea. I completely agree, but I think that that is something, like, for our work plan that we need to talk about, to put it on the work plan, because I think that going forward, it would be nice to have SBSD Helpdesk: You know,
we have a calendar, and in fact, I'm sitting here now, and I'm trying to make a calendar that I think would be really helpful that we could put on our website that shows, like, okay, here's all the things that are happening. SBSD Helpdesk: These are the different events, whether it's, you know, as simple as SBSD Helpdesk: You know, school board applications are due, school board meetings, these are the dates that we're having them. Superintendent search, meetings, when are the meetings happening? The new board member joins, the new superintendent joins, you know, first day of school, like, we just have, like, an overview that people can look at and see, and then we might have SBSD Helpdesk: you know, all right, there's sporting events that are happening. We're going to have… you could anticipate there's going
to be a board table that will be at these kind of events. You know, because I know there was discussion in Donuts, which was great. That's a good opportunity for the community to come and to speak with the superintendent. SBSD Helpdesk: But I think having some other things where the board is kind of informally, but somewhat formally, because maybe it's announced that we're going to be there, you know, in the community, I think would be really helpful. You know, oh, we're going to be at Panera on Saturday at 10 a.m, come SBSD Helpdesk: join and talk with us if you're interested. You have a… SBSD Helpdesk: What advice might you give us about increasing community engagement? SBSD Helpdesk: So, what I'm hearing from all of you is that's a priority, that you want to increase
that. I think maybe getting some feedback on what the community feels like would be good ways to… to… SBSD Helpdesk: engage with them, escorting them that may or may not, you know, again, or may not be a great way of getting that feedback. SBSD Helpdesk: There are. SBSD Helpdesk: Okay, and so, like… You know, you could… it… SBSD Helpdesk: It could even be a topic for a community forum, is… SBSD Helpdesk: what should we be doing to engage you, you know? Better than what we're doing. I also think that you also need to… you will want to be thoughtful about who attends our board meetings, who attends our community forums. SBSD Helpdesk: And who we are missing. SBSD Helpdesk: Because that's… there's a significant population of folks that are not hitting. And so, how do
we… how do we get that information from those folks? Right. There's a lot that this committee could consider, even in that vein, the geographic distribution of, you know, just, you know. SBSD Helpdesk: where you live, affects whether you can come to our meetings, you know? Right. So, … SBSD Helpdesk: Are there any other thoughts on, an engagement committee? I feel like we kind of talked about this a little bit at the training that we went to, and I think there could be some really good ideas from other board members in other school districts about what they're doing, and how they've found SBSD Helpdesk: to meet, you know, people are interested in meeting them at certain places, or if this is really successful, this one doesn't really work. So, asking the community, but also getting ideas
about what other board members are doing, too. Yeah, Debbie Siegenser has a lot of information on that. SBSD Helpdesk: from the SBA, because she's a… she's not the board chair, but she serves on her board as well. SBSD Helpdesk: And is there… Is there any interest in charging such a committee immediately? SBSD Helpdesk: I mean, I'm with Laura. I think we need to get through the big thing right now, which is having two board members coming on board and having, you know, the superintendent search, but I do think that this is something we definitely should be doing in the fall. And I'd also like to hear from our student reps, like, what are your recommendations and thoughts for getting the community SBSD Helpdesk: I don't know, I was thinking about, like, the sports game idea.
… SBSD Helpdesk: At least to get the most student opinion. SBSD Helpdesk: and maybe even the general public. I know that any sport night games is when there's so many people there. Like, whether in the fall is soccer, in the fall, field hockey. SBSD Helpdesk: They're… I… like… there's maybe… SBSD Helpdesk: 30 people at a regular 4 o'clock game or 10 a.m. game, but at a night game, it's like, literally full. There's students everywhere, there's parents everywhere, those are the big games. … SBSD Helpdesk: So, if you are looking to play a sports game, that would be the time to do it. SBSD Helpdesk: And if we… SBSD Helpdesk: It's, like, in the winter, it'd be a lot harder just because, like, indoors, less space to, like. SBSD Helpdesk: like, I'm just trying to think
about how we had, like, at a basketball game, where would the field be set up? Where would people… Yeah, exactly. … SBSD Helpdesk: Well, like, maybe after this, the superintendent search and everything is over, near the end of the fall, staff would be a great time to do a, a, … SBSD Helpdesk: a Bora table for engagement. Well, because the things that we would need to be talking about are now we're looking at pivoting to a permanent superintendent, or in… SBSD Helpdesk: Yeah, permanent superintendent. So it's like, we need to have the engagement from the community on those kinds of things. We had talked also about, was it the, what did Essex just do? Was it the, mission or the goals that they reissued, that they recast? They did, yeah. SBSD Helpdesk: getting input from
the community on things like that. Are they in policy governance? SBSD Helpdesk: School district? Yes, they are. Oh, yes. And do their mission… is their mission separate from their end? SBSD Helpdesk: I guess our mission is separate from our ends, but are there goals separate from our ends? SBSD Helpdesk: I would have to ask. Yeah. But it was a big community engagement effort. It's just getting more people out and involved, and knowing what's happening with the schools, and having some interest in it, and feeling like, you know, their voice matters. SBSD Helpdesk: Any other thoughts on… Community Engagement Committee for now. SBSD Helpdesk: … One thing that we just removed from our August 20th agenda SBSD Helpdesk: but that I think is somewhat relevant here is adding things to the website. Yes. Like, you were
mentioning a calendar, there's also, like, contracts, there's, all that stuff. SBSD Helpdesk: So, I think that… Oh, … SBSD Helpdesk: When we do eventually charge this committee, they probably should have the authority on our behalf to add things to the website, you know, the more extensive venture. SBSD Helpdesk: You know, as long as they stay in our lane, you know, we obviously have to, you know, not cross the line. SBSD Helpdesk: And then we'll get their first student stuff on the website, too. SBSD Helpdesk: But I see the changes you've made recently, and they look good. SBSD Helpdesk: Right, I have added a list of the press SBSD Helpdesk: That expect to be contacted when the school board makes an announcement. SBSD Helpdesk: And… I think that's the only thing I've added. SBSD Helpdesk: I
announced the superintendent. SBSD Helpdesk: And… Do you announce the application? The application, right. But it would be good to have more, and it doesn't all have to be the same place, where it just gets longer and longer. Okay. All right, any other discussion on that? SBSD Helpdesk: Great. Well, then the last thing on our agenda tonight, and we are way ahead of schedule, is, the acting superintendent's report, so… Great, thank you. SBSD Helpdesk: So, just a reminder, for some people, and for others who don't know about it, convocation is Thursday the 21st. You all are invited. We serve light refreshments in the morning at 7.30, and convocation actually starts at 8.15, and that goes until 10.30. SBSD Helpdesk: So I just wanted to make sure that you all were aware of that. That'll be at
the, high school auditorium. SBSD Helpdesk: Can only 3 of us go? Yep. Right. SBSD Helpdesk: So if you want to go, I guess, email Kristen. Yeah, if you would email me, we'd love… we'd love to announce you all and introduce you as our board members, and then, historically, we have an award that, the board chair SBSD Helpdesk: gifts to, a recipient. I can't say a whole lot more about that, or give it away, but that we, you know, we, we provide information in regards to the recipient, and that we ask that, they do that, so… SBSD Helpdesk: Is there any information about that. SBSD Helpdesk: So that's information about convocation. Wanted to just talk a little bit, and I've got Jean Marie here, that we're in the process, you know, obviously safety is a huge
priority for us. We've been looking at a visitor management software SBSD Helpdesk: We've made a decision about a visitor management software. You know, obviously the hope and goal is always to have it right up at the beginning of the school year, but we've got so much going on, and so that is going to be happening, in, it should be completed by early October. SBSD Helpdesk: So we can give you a little more information about that later on, but that's just, again, to increase safety and security. SBSD Helpdesk: the, other thing that I wanted to just comment on was what Molman was talking about. I want to wish all those who would find out tomorrow, SBSD Helpdesk: Good luck, that's exciting, and, so good luck to all those that are trying it out. Final thing I
wanted to comment on, again, was in regard to what you were speaking about with the Instagram account. We're in the process of hiring a new communications director. SBSD Helpdesk: And that would be a really great person that you'd love to be. SBSD Helpdesk: connecting with. So, once I get some of the other things figured out for me, and I'll get that information, right away, once we have that person hired, again, that might be a great person to connect with.
