They went on and did what we went through our regular eye doctor that the whole bunch is now. The ball came back. The guy said he's going to have cataract surgery and so forth. On the end? Yeah. Not saying that. I think we're good. Staggered. I'm just I'm going to run now waiting room for a few minutes. See you. Looks like Beth is in. >> Yep. Do you see that? Yep. We'll be able to open those things up there. We'll send them out. I don't know what to Yeah. I'm going to call them. I'll call them back. I think I'll call them back. I can't see the whole screen but I'm I It's showing that people are admitted. Uh I think this one is a warm I'll run that for a few minutes. I'll make

sure no one is television deviation doesn't come in as well. Beth, can you hear us? voice Even if she's looking at it, she could think it's still Yeah. Beth, can you hear us? Great. You look here. Yes, I can. Okay, thank you. And I have one participant. I don't Okay, that person has left. You should be all right to start. >> Okay. Okay. I'd like to call to order the special meeting of Mount Anthony Union High School District number 14 Board of Directors. Today's Tuesday, March 31st 5:32. Before we get started, I'd like to ask for a motion to amend the agenda. Um the adjustment is needed to add executive session pursuant to one VSA section 313A13, the appointment or employment of that or evaluation of a public officer or employee. Um I move. I'll

move. I'll second it. Okay. Any discussion? Okay. All in favor? Aye. Aye. We have all voted. Aye. Glad is that an I from you? It is. Katie, I heard you. And Beth, did did I hear an I? Yes, you did. Okay, thank you. The first item on the agenda is the appointment of Mount Anthony Union Middle School Principal. Okay. Okay. Public comment first. Oh, I'm sorry. Public comment. I have had two people in attendance. I do not see any public comment in the uh participant list. Okay. We can move on to the appointment of um the middle school principal. Okay. Uh I can walk through it folks really quickly through the search process. Uh The position for principal of Mount Anthony Union Middle School was posted between December 19th and January 19th. It was posted

on SchoolSpring, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and indeed. We received 30 applicants. We had a screening committee organized. It included a board member from this board, parent, two assistant principals from the from the middle school, a special educator, school-based clinician, a math teacher, school counselor, and the office manager. And myself and Nick Gault attended those meetings as well. We did an initial screening uh of applicants on February 4th. Uh the committee identified seven applicants for interviews. Six of them ultimately moved forward. Another one uh one withdrew accepting another position of principal. We did our initial interviews between February 13th and the 17th. The committee forwarded four applicants to the next stage, which was a second round of interviews that happened March 12th through March 13th. That included a school tour and interview at

Camel School, uh including meeting with students, and then an administrative interview with uh directors, assistant super uh and assistant principals and myself. Uh from that uh the I got feedback from the search committee, and we made an offer to the nominee that you have in your packet, Michael Klein, uh on the 17th. Uh after that conversation, references were checked, including uh current principal and past supervisor under the uh director of colleges for a readiness. Uh so, uh you should have the nomination form. Should also, I see folks have got the updated Indeed uh resume, which I appreciate uh Mr. Klein providing that cuz Indeed was a little bit of a challenge. So, uh I come to you offering a nomination for principal of Mount Anthony Union Middle School, Michael Klein. I'll second that. We have

a motion by Scott, second by Leon. Discussion. North Carolina? Yeah. Yeah. That was a little surprising. They're all over the place. I have one question, I guess, is um if he's moved if he's relocating, um does he have the housing secured or is he going to be an issue? Are we going to put an offer out there and then have to go through the process again? So, um my understanding he was very candid is he has family in this area. Uh he was in North Carolina. His situation has family-wise has changed, and he would like to move closer to his his remaining family. Yeah, that was I would say he was a he was very excited about the opportunity moving in this direction. Family, but he was also very impressed with staff, building, the community.

He's been spotted already in the community at social events, so Beth, if you happen to have any comments or feedback, I can't see you on the screen to know that So, I just want to make sure if she does end up wanting to comment, just speak up for so that um I don't lose the opportunity. Thanks. I don't have anything at this time. Okay. Just wanted to make sure. So, we have a motion on the floor. Um is there any other discussion? I'm just going I mean, getting new to the area and just and and having several years of I mean, you have a lot of experience within the ministry of the area for a couple of years and so forth. Um is there a uh a plan to verify markers throughout the course of

certain period of time that he that need to be looked at in order to seal the the real deal with satisfaction. I should say that. You talking about once he's hired and Yeah. doing the work. So, he would be connected with a mentor. Yeah. Uh he would be absolutely supervised and evaluated in his first year as any new hire would be. Um so, there's an evaluation process that I would be responsible for. I I asked that because it's not a teacher's contract. It's it's it's an an administrator's contract. >> Sure. And and didn't know what was all in that, but that's detail. Where would the mentor be weighted from? I mean, we have a brand new principal at the high school. Are we going to have a bad Yes, thank you. So, Vermont Principals Association

will connect you with an experienced principal. We've used that resource before. So, it's not someone in our district then. Doesn't necessarily have to be. Okay. Official start date is what you told her. July 1st. So, there's um no opportunity for overlap, I guess, because if that would be It's not an expectation, but it certainly would be welcome. Yeah. This is just a personal question. I don't know if I feel like I should recuse myself from Should I? I don't know. You're not an employee or a But my sister is. That would be first personal preference. Yeah. I mean I think it would be Yeah. I think it If you feel there's a conflict, but I No, I don't, but I just wanted to make sure the group doesn't either. Okay. Any other questions, discussions? Okay.

Uh seeing none, all in favor? I. Thank you. Um Given that we didn't need to move into an executive session for the discussion I make a motion. Can I actually I just want to um publicly say um these processes take a while. They're exhausting. They take a lot of people's extra effort. Um sounds like looks like we uh are fortunate in that we have a high-quality candidate. Um and so kudos to to to the team that did the work to get us to this place cuz um you know, it's always a daunting task when you have to hire an administrator and especially in replacing one that has the tenure that um it's the last one who was here, I guess. I mean, I have to say in participating in the process, we had several um

candidates that I would have been happy with. Very fortunate. >> Yeah, we were very fortunate to have Yeah, that's really great to hear. As WCAX reported this week, there are currently over 30 positions open in the state to fill for leadership roles. So, very I felt like we got there early and the committee did a good job, worked through the process pretty quickly and we had a good selection of candidates. It's a small number, but a good selection. >> her kids flipping through the radar, also. Oh, yeah. I heard about that. Yes, but that's pretty awesome. Okay. Any other I have a motion to adjourn. So moved. Have a good night. Thank you. Thanks, everybody. >> Thanks for calling in. Okay. Good night, guys. Thank you. It was well. Thank you. Have a good night,

dinner. Have a good night, dinner. Have a good night, dinner. Have a good night, dinner. Good night. Take some shots of coffee. We'll see you in a bit.
