and click. That works somehow. All right, we'll turn our video on. >> Nicole, can you hear us? >> Yes, I can hear you. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Admit noteaker, whatever that is. Okay. Not sure. So, Okay, sorry about that everybody. We've got a new computer here before after our last meeting. So, I'm operating from the dark here a little bit. Who else we have sure who iPhone is? Oh, what the heck? Let's admit why our note note taker >> I think it's the AI note. >> Yeah. So they leave us all. Okay. I'm sorry. I'm right. We are I'll put it on. So >> Oh, all right. Made an order. Start with the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for

which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Fantastic. Um, do we have any additions, deletions, or changes to the agenda? I have not been contacted by anybody to uh have a agenda item added or changed uh either in written form or in a phone call. >> Fabulous. And any public comment? >> We have nobody here in the audience that wants to provide public public comment nor has anybody signed in for public comment. >> Fabulous. Um I'm going to take it that everybody took a gander at the consent agenda. Yes. Anything of note in that? I didn't see anything, but >> no, it's pretty normal uh fun warrants with general fund and a few ASB things. Nothing out out of the ordinary. Um we did because our timeline was

compressed. There will be a whole lot more in January's board meeting. So, that's why you're not seeing payroll here and some other general fund expenditures. >> Correct. >> Do I have a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> I'll make the motion. >> I'll second. All in favor? I >> I >> the financial reports Nicole. So these reports are as of um November month end and our ending cash is 855,921 sitting right above the um orang-ish yellow line there which is our 20% minimum fund balance policy. >> Oh yeah, no I just read you the red dot. Sorry. We're at 883,533. Um the purple um the last purple dot Any trends out of the ordinary there, Nicole, or we trending as normal? >> Yep, trending as normal. I'm just trying to keep an eye on

that ending fund balance just um because in January it may change with the decrease enrollment because currently OSPI pays us monthtomonth based on what we budgeted and we're a little um down in enrollment from where we budgeted. So um our January portion, which will be in our February board meeting, we'll actually see what that does to our fund balance. I'm just keeping an eye on it. Now, um then this is our budget status. Also, as of November 30th, um we're about 25% of the way through the year. And we've received about 20% of our budgeted expenditures. And we've receive expended 24% of our budgeted expenditures, leaving our ending fund balance at 891,713, which is just about 23% um fund balance. No, >> no concerns there, Nicole, or anything? >> No, I do have one small

reconciling item with the county treasur. It's about $2,200. It's in our warrants. Um I have an email into them. Um so we can um try to identify it, but right now it's immaterial and it and it will be resolved. And then our capital projects fund has an ending fund balance of 533,710. Um the only activity our debt service had in November was a transfer for the bus payment and our transportation vehicle fund has an ending fund balance of 129,574. >> Fabulous. >> Any questions for me? I'm really liking Erin's new computer, though. >> Finally working now. >> Well, that's good. >> Read everything. >> Perfect. Well, that's all for financials and we'll move on to section seven for superintendent report. >> Thank you very much. As Cole mentioned, our enrollment, we are a little bit

down from our budgeted I think we budgeted 85 or 87 if I can recall. Um, see, right now we're at 83. I did get word from a family that uh we may have another first grader and third grader coming to us. Um, but I think their plans with the weather and the flooding really has derailed a lot of that uh discussion with them. So, um, but I I believe they they will be joining us. And I'm I'm going to talk about this a little bit later, but with our enroll now people are enrollment people recruiting, we're going to start targeting um semester changes as families are, you know, home for the break and maybe thinking about looking at a different option for their their child or children. That semester would be a great time to

do that as kind of a normal break for kids and for schools. But you can see our trending uh enrollment. So we are slowly creeping up and hopefully we'll continue that uh increase over the next few months and get to where we had budgeted. But again, this is unfortunately not a eastern problem. This is kind of a statewide problem. I sat through a webinar today with Superintendent Reichd Doll and um there's a lot of changes coming ahead with just declining enrollment and really from declining birth rates. >> Yeah. Um there's a little bit of change, you know, families going to home school or coming back and private school and coming back, but really it's the driver is is birth rates. >> Uh which obviously we can't do a lot about. >> What Erin, you're telling

me that you can't make it for the cost of living? I feel like you can fix that for all of us. >> That's kind of a little bit out of my my range. Uh last week, I don't know if you were able to attend and I apologize to Miss Mrs. Fry or Mr. pride uh and this flag they kind of took of the uh the bull by the horns and decided to have a clothing drive winter popup shop last week and you can see the pictures there. We lots of clothing for kids and toys and stuff for families. I think we had a basketball game that night too and I think some of the other team I know that I saw the coach grab a couple things for oh this might fit my daughter. So,

uh, looks like things, uh, >> hopefully went to the right place and we did find a spot to take all of the items at the end of it to, um, and nonprofit organization that works with foster families and foster kids. So, we were able to kind of package up everything at the end of the week and sent it on its way. But you see the Grinch there and the home club uh, with their their crafts that they sold. So, very successful night. But again, thank you to to Mrs. flag or Miss Flag and Miss Fry. It was a good event and I know Miss Flag is happy that all those items are out of her classroom now. >> It was a warehouse in there for a couple days. >> Um >> little retail. >> Yeah.

So, she's happy things are are out and where they need to be out with families that are that are in need. Um last week we got our official ballot from the uh auditor's office. um language is included included in my report. Great. >> See, it's proposition one for our replacement levy and proposition two for our capital projects or east and gym levy. As you walked in, you probably saw some of the materials we have out there for um for families and community members to get a better idea of our levies. We also have a website that uh we'll be uh have published. Um, when we get back from break, a mailing will be go home to all our community members about, you know, what we're trying to accomplish with with our levies. And, um, if

if anybody's out there in the community listening to us, please uh, don't hesitate to contact me or contact any of our staff here at the school. We're happy to walk you through uh, what the levies entail and, you know, the need for them. We have a junior high basketball game going on right now, but uh you know, as people go up and down those bleachers, um it's always a it's always a new day when those bleachers are in use. So, I'm hoping things uh continue until we can replace them. Um as I mentioned, we are working with Enroll now to help our marketing to our new families. They're creating some videos and social media ads for us. Um, as I wrote this, we had 30, but um, we now have 39 as the the leads

keep coming in. Uh, I have called all of the leads that come in, and unfortunately, it hasn't translated into, um, newu new student enrollment. Seems like a lot of the folks who are uh kind of clicking in our links are um just interested in the school and you know maybe had gone to school here 10 20 years ago or knew of a family member or um so not translating right now into um new kids but we'll keep working on it. Um and that head I know I sent this link out a couple months ago to the board. We have a new kind of tagline or slogan that we're going to work with for kind of our our marketing and where every student matters. Thought that was a nice nice selection from from our staff. We

had I think four four slogans that all received the same uh amount of votes, but we kind of finally narrowed it down to this. And I think with what we do with personalization for kids and and their educational programs, I think it's a perfect perfect fit for us. We have a new student uh board member, Austin Brown, who is actually running the score clock now in the basketball game. So So and couldn't be here, but uh he was very apologetic that he couldn't attend and I assured him, Austin, we are just happy that you're willing to participate and make it when you can. So >> yeah, >> um >> it'll be a great addition to uh Angela and providing the student perspective on things and how we're doing. >> School calendar. Um I sent out

a survey to uh our staff about um what do we want when do we want to start school next year before Labor Day or after? And Labor Day is late this year. um received 24 responses and 12 before Labor Day, 12 selected after Labor Day. That's not helpful. >> So, it was it was it was clear as mud >> uh in terms of when we start school. >> Any idea on when that pushes out to like the 19th of June, something? >> Yeah, it does. It pushes out to the 18th or 19th if we start path, which is later. >> Yeah. >> Um I don't it wouldn't be an issue if Labor Day wasn't so late in in September with the >> start. Uh only one district so far that I could see has adopted

their calendar for 26 27 and that's Cleellen. They're going to start after Labor Day. So that means they're not out until middle to end of June, June 18th through 19th. So >> um I don't know if the board has a preference for that. Uh uh Angela as a graduating senior. I don't know if you have a preference, but u have you heard from any of the students what would they like to >> say before we get released earlier? You'd rather be out sooner in June than >> later in June. Yeah. Especially for the like the upcoming graduates, too, because they would get to graduate sooner, right? >> Yes. I mean, they still graduate a week before. Yeah. >> I would say before. >> Okay. >> And I don't have a strong preference either way, but

uh again, the staff was said just >> they were pretty darn split. >> Darn split. So, we're going to make 12 people happy and make 12 people rather unhappy. >> Well, I mean, if that's not the way of the world, I don't know what is. I'm I'm sure as districts are, you know, going through the calendar process, some will start before Labor Day and some will start after. But >> I feel like if we do, we need to vote on this today. >> No, this is actually not a board. >> Oh, and actually in looking at the calendar, it looks like you should start the week before. >> Yeah. To be able to see like it makes sense to me >> because Yeah. Labor Day is just falling on a weird day there. >> Yeah.

I mean, if Labor Day was just a few days beforehand, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But >> I mean, I guess you could >> It's not like it's seven days in, it's nine days into >> Yeah. So it's um this is a new you know setting the calendar is a management and so I just like to always ask the ask ask the staff >> uh and make sure we're not well we're in line with other districts but >> I think we will be with whatever we decide but >> maybe we'll strong little small poll of the students to see see what they would like. >> Yeah, >> I'm sure all of them would say let's get out earlier. I feel like by the end of the year, everybody is they're just toast. They're ready

to be done. Angela, is that pretty? Yeah. I I I just I wanted to double check. I mean, based off of when I was hanging out last year, I was like everybody was pretty much done by the end of May. >> Yep. >> And those last couple weeks in June were a little on the rough side. We will we will build in some weather days like we've had a couple but you know if we go beyond the two weather days we have built in then then we're in school until you know the week of the 20th of June and then that is so close which is is pretty darn. So >> yeah. >> Okay. I think we have a I have a direction here that we think we need to look at like the June

holidays too >> which have an effect on >> all that too. So >> yeah, because there there is a holiday >> there is a holiday >> might be on Saturday. >> So if the Friday might be observed. >> Okay, >> that's all I have for for my board report. But again, thank you to uh all the work that our two teachers did putting that together for our community. And hopefully we we helped some families. >> Yeah. And hopefully we'll we'll get a more few more Jags in the door. >> Be awesome. Love that. >> We're not trying. >> No, we're we're absolutely working hard. >> I mean, >> and if anything, people are getting more familiar with Eastston and looking at the nice videos of the kids and we just post a nice video uh

a volleyball video again. So, >> well, and it's nice when you open up the website, the first thing that pops up is a splash screen on all the buddies and stuff. It's like, >> yep, we're >> we're trying to make things as transparent and easy as possible. But >> again, if people want to look at the gym floor and really walk the gym floor and see the the dead spots where the basketball won't bounce and >> look at the uh the bleachers and the uh >> it's time we can be more than happy to do that. >> Perfect. Cool. Um, on to operations report. Jeff is not here. >> He's on. Okay. >> Mr. Brennan, are you there or did we lose you? >> Yeah, he was on. >> Was on him on the iPhone.

>> All right. Gi's got me. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, we got you. >> All right. Sounds good. All right. I'll try and keep this brief. Uh, we got the Reek King project. Peach Sand Hardware came out and fixed any of the uh dead bolts that weren't working. Um they have a few more cores that well 17 more cores to be replaced. So they should be out either this week or um next week on the break to get the remaining cores in. That should be a pretty quick project. Just swapping them out. Um key car access system. Mr. Eric Amsbury with Camt. They said they'd begin work on the access control system in January as long as all the parts come in. Uh solar power project. have received an update from Mr. Mo Salem with ATS.

Um they completed the uh solar mounting and structural plans. Now they just send it off to the uh for an uh or they send off the energy audit proposal to Mr. Bill Bass. He's our dees uh contact. So he'll review that before we go into any final contracts with ATS and kind of really get the ball rolling on this. Um the John Deere tractor, we've received that back. It's running much better. No leaks. on the Cresto House roof. Um so over uh over our nice waterfall that we had coming through uh east in there. Um there's some been some leaks that have developed in the roof. Um they were leaks that were there last year. Um I cked over them, but the caulking cracked, so I had to go up and recalled. U I do

recommend that uh we get a new roof on the Cresta house if that's something that the board wants to invest in. Um, I just worry about mold developing inside the house. I worry about Aeron's health with that and everything. So, um, if that's something that the board wants to invest in, I do recommend that the the Cresto House gets a new roof. Um, I've removed any of the wet insulation, um, that's in there and dried the uh, sheetrock as best as I could. Um, and then allowed air flow to get through there. Um, onto the transportation report. We did have our surprise winter inspection on the buses. Um they decided to inspect bus two. Uh no exceptions were found, so we're rolling good there. Um we did have or we do have our transit van

back. So um and it's been running good. It's already had about 500 miles put on it. So um everything's good there. Um other than that, that's all I have for you this month. Any questions? >> The Sienna? >> Uh the transit van? >> No. Can Can you talk about the Sienna issues, Jeff? >> Oh, yeah. Uh Sienna issues. So, um there is an active recall on the Toyota Siennas. Um with that, uh Toyota, they said they'll reach back out um once they start getting a stock in. Um >> their solution is they're basically just going to replace the whole um second row seat with new frames welded into it and everything. Um so, it'll be a no expense to us. Um basically, they're just going to replace the whole seats. Um the seats just kind

of pop out of there and then they pop new ones in. Um so that's kind of their solution. They were just trying to get a batch a big batch of uh the second row seats put together and everything and they'll uh contact me uh once that's ready to uh ready to go. Um also um just recently a uh rock hit the windshield just right on the base. A little rock from a semitr merging onto the freeway. Um it did crack the windshield. So, I have an active claim going for that to get the windshield replaced. >> Welcome to winners. >> Hey, Jeff, can we circle back to the Cresto house a little bit? Um, >> yes, sir. >> You know, I know you you mentioned the roof, but I'm you know, you look at the

paint on that building and I I think we need to make a decision about >> if we want to invest some district money in >> Maintenance. I mean, it's I mean, the interior is is is just fine, but I'm worried about the exterior, >> you know, paint job and, you know, obviously the the roofing. I mean, it's a district facility right now. I I wouldn't put kids in there with the the mold. So, you need to >> just is that something that can fall under like our capital projects? >> Yeah. Yeah. That's how we would have to pay for it because it's >> capital project land. But nothing to bring to the board this month, but uh Jeff might be looking at some quotes maybe as a weather. >> Would there be anything that's covered

by insurance for the leaking on the roof? It's probably not worth the claim. >> I would not think so just due the age of the roof. Um but the beginning if you look on the sides of you know I think the west side of the building is is pretty bad with sun damage. It just you know it's just old just needs a need some love. >> Need some need some TLC. >> Uh I would encourage us to look at that a little bit more in more detail in the next month or >> and if I can follow up uh or follow uh with you Aaron what you're saying uh as far as the roof concerns another reason uh insurance may not be interested in claiming that is it looks like the roof has been patched

before but the panels they're not installed correctly. Um, so essentially instead of overlapping uh the panels and then adding a gutter at the joints, um, what they've done is they've just bent the roofing uh to kind of modify it so the water will run over the roof and down. Um, so those joints where it's bent. Um, there's some cracking that happens there as well, which right now I have caulk on there. It's temporary repair, but it's not going to last forever. Seems like during the normal rainfall it's fine, but when it's that wind driven rain is when it when I get the tubs out, catch their rainfall. >> Oh, no. And from a from a real estate standpoint, if we ever went to try and sell Cresto Yeah. >> and it had a claim on

it, it the quote unquote, for lack of a better term, statute of limit limitations on it goes so far out if they see that claim then trying to get insurance on it again. Okay. >> Is an act of God. And so I would >> if it's something the roof is old, it's maintenance. We probably should just take care of it because if we decide to sell it down, it's >> we need to take care of the district facility. >> Yeah. Absolutely. >> We'll we'll get to work on that and bring something forward to the board here and maybe in a few months. Love >> that. Cool. All right. >> Thanks, Jeff. >> Thank you, Jeff. >> Yep. Absolutely. Thank you. Uh, anything from board members board member report? >> Uh, Mr. Poyer has fulfilled his

annual contract to set off a fire alarm. >> Fabulous. Love that. >> He uh he he did it last week while I happen to be home. >> Oh, good. >> And uh no issues. Everything worked according to plan. It was on plan fire alarm, but he >> What did Mr. beef. >> I science teacher I mean >> he was using the fume hood and looks like the fume hood was maybe a damper or something wasn't open up above. I mean the fume hood was on. The ventilation system was on but it wasn't venting out from again from what I understand. >> It was good to see me and >> I happened to just hear it on Friday while I was home before it even pitched us out. So >> it's Isn't that great? >> Why

I showed up? We love doing that. So, >> I mean, at least he made it nice and convenient for you. >> So, it was non-issue. It was actually quite funny. Impromptu fire drill. All the kids were out of the school. So, I was here within probably a minute and a half. >> Everybody was out. So, this was good. >> Love that. >> It's a well-trained group. Yep. Love it. >> Love it. Really glad that was >> Monday. 20 bucks later. >> Yep. I'm really happy that wasn't yesterday when I was here because I definitely was looking outside watching it while I was in the math class and I was like I was like I don't want to go outside right now. >> We have the umbrellas underway. >> Yeah. No kidding. So, well cool. Um

we are on to section eight. Sorry. >> Sorry. Yes. Go. >> Yeah. Uh so when we're talking about recruiting students um we have a lot of young babies and youth and toddler age being born at the pass. Um, and there are a lot of people who right now could definitely benefit from direction around what is over here and what's available to them. Um, in fact, we had one of the one of the neighbors um just posted on Facebook like last week that she was trying to get more um familiar with who the moms were up there. So, it's like it's this next generation of children that's coming in and they don't know which way to go. They're frustrated with going to the west side and they definitely have um you know the cohort of kids

coming in that are ready going to be ready for presk prek sorry soon. They really want daycare too but there's just not daycare >> at the moment. >> Yeah. Like not here either. >> Those preconceived notions that they have of going east. >> Yeah. Yeah. But there's a lot of opportunity to connect with past people that's being >> So how do we how do we get to those folks? Um most of those people use um social media y which isn't always true for a lot of um folks in like Rosland and stuff like that. >> Um and I would say you know like we could even engage with them and just be like what do you guys you know like >> be happy >> what your future look like a mom's group or something up

there if there's like a >> daycare cohort or something. Um >> however >> um >> whoever you know up there send them my way. Okay. >> Yeah, some of them are just like neighbors on my tree. There's there's quite a few variety of families, but >> um some of them do not. Oh, sorry. That's my phone. It's time to go to bed. >> Um and I definitely think we can get to like the biggest little parade that the past is having now. Um they have uh just some people and characters that are um like doing um who's the one from the mountain? >> Barry. >> No, the um the infl the animal costume. >> Ramsey. >> Ramsay. Yeah. So, and this past one had um Smoky the Bear by the Forest Service was there because

they kind of based the big party at the end out of Laconia. >> Biggest grade. >> A lot of our students are already in it. You don't have to do >> kind of like event for a block party going to do it they in the summertime. Okay. >> It's it's pretty much like the second or third weekend in June on that Saturday >> at one point they did it one year and then the next year it was going to be a protest because you didn't need a permit for a protest. Uh >> but permits came through at the last hour and now it turned it they turned back into annual parade. I love this. >> We can we can definitely put that on the radar >> this year or June. >> Yes. >> It's June.

>> So like Juneish July. >> It it's it's like mid June. Like mid June. >> Yeah. Probably like the second or third weekend in June. I think they had it. >> We can definitely have materials up there and and a body up there. >> Yeah. But Jade said we have a like a Jaguar. So I was like maybe we could have like a a Jaguar cuz little kids love, you know, like >> probably need a new Jaguar. >> Oh, okay. We could invest in something that >> different. >> Well, you know, just uh >> newer, >> you know, not have generations of >> Yeah. >> teenage sweat going through it. >> Yeah, sure. >> So, we definitely can do that. No, the kids love it. We'll do it. >> Perfect. But but there might be

other pockets in all of our, you know, upper kittatas county communities where we can um find little niche groups too that are still reproducing and still living local and being full-time residents um looking for what's coming next for their kids. So waiting for >> I want them to understand that we are an option and a very good option. >> Um does all right got anything? Oh, >> cool. Love that. >> All right, moving on to section A board business. >> Yes, I have the honor of providing the oath of office for Mr. Hegelson. >> Mayor, >> Mr. Ren, >> mayor, >> and Mr. Phillips. >> Hey, we're all >> see in front of you. Oh, put that second. >> You have a nice certificate of election from Kittas County as well as uh an oath

of office document that uh I would ask you to sign after we are completed with the oath of office. So I guess if the board members could stand and raise your right hand, I will read the official oath of office. I state your name. >> State your name. John Phillips. >> I do >> do affirm that I am a citizen of the United States of America. do >> and the state of Washington >> and of the state of Washington >> that I am legally qualified to assume the office of director >> that I am legally qualified to assume director position two school district >> position three >> um eastn school district number 28 >> school district school district number >> that I will support the constitution and laws of the United States >> that I

will support constitution become states, >> the state of Washington. >> State of Washington, >> and that I will faithfully, diligently, and impartially >> That I will faithfully, >> diligently, and >> perform the duties of this office >> as such duties are prescribed by law. >> Such duties are prescribed by law >> to the best of my judgment, skill, and ability. >> Best of my best, ability. >> All right. Wow. >> You guys are official. Twister with everybody. >> We could have done it individually, but >> No, no, that was better. >> That's how we we roll here. So, thank you again for running and thank you for your service. If you can sign those when you have an opportunity and I will put those in the board minutes for later review. So, thank you so

much >> and another exciting few years of Eastern School Board. So, thank you. Thank you. Perfect. Love that. Uh, I clicked board name. >> Yes, >> Karen. >> Um, we have I think I've notified the board going into last spring. Um, been working with both of our labor groups, classified and certificated. We have come into two-year agreements with both of our union groups, and this is some certainly just a simply a ratification of that contract. The membership has ratified. Uh, we had a few little tweaks to make. uh you know these last few months and we're both myself and union leadership are busy so we finally got them done and we bring it to the board for uh their approval. My my recommendation would be to approve the 25 to 27 EA classified collective bargaining

agreement with uh Eastern School District. >> I'll make the motion. I'll second. Any discussion? Nope. >> Fabulous. Oh, there >> thank you very much. >> Thank Thank you, Phil. Um, and >> sorry, and I'm on wicked delay. >> No worries. >> Just wicked wave your hand. Last thing to share in the board business >> is policy review. These are all again in the five 5000s which means it's uh staff related. Um I don't think anything here is real controversial. >> First reading only. So you can see WAZ has developed a couple more policies for us to include and some procedures. So, um, for now in our January meeting, if you could spend some more time and to see if there's anything that you have concerns with and we can discuss further, but again, just first

reading for this month. >> Everything seemed fairly fine in there. >> Yeah, not I don't think there's a lot of controversial things in there with folks taking leave and um, sickness and things like that. >> We want you to take your leave if you're sick. We want you to take the leave that you are that you earn. Thanks to >> Yes. >> Don't be stubborn like me. >> Save your sick time for when you actually want to go on vacation. >> All right. Um I think the rest of that is good. I think we're on to executive session. >> I would like to go to executive session for about 20 to 30 minutes to discuss a couple issues with the board. >> Um motion for that. >> I'll make a motion. >> A second. >>

Okay. All in favor? All in favor? >> Perfect. Um, let's go 30 minutes. So, that'll bring us back at 6:37. >> Sounds great. >> Great. >> Meeting is adjourned until 6:37. >> Thanks. Thank you, Angela. >> Angela going home. >> I think I think it's done. Oh, >> who do you think won? Sounded pretty positive down there. Heard some cheering. your hands up. >> All right. At 67 You thought about shooting the ball. actually go bye-bye. We have your It just SP really tall and wait.
