001How's it going? be in the meeting with me, dude. >> Is that the new blanket? >> There's that one here. What's the new one? >> Longer than it looks. I think her name is very Uh yeah, this should be starting Okay. Did you find your spot? Okay, there. Now I can hear. >> I can hear you. >> There is. All right. So, we're getting everyone joining. Happy meeting everybody. Mute there. The wrong thing. >> Anyway, uh happy Tuesday. >> Yeah. Snowy Tuesday. >> Oh, yeah. How much snow? Uh, how much snow is there? >> Uh, I mean, I don't know, a few inches. >> I can take that. >> Oh, you can have it. All of it. >> Absolutely. >> It uh it's 5:30, but we don't have a quorum yet, so uh >> Okay.

002We uh kind of need to be on hold until um I think Haley said she was finishing up with the client and Mr. Mi will be joining us as well. So just waiting for them to sign in. >> No worries. >> Yeah, we um we made it to our spot which is out on the um California coast and then we'll we'll be visiting family in Lewon, California tomorrow. Um, so so far so good on the weather down here though. No snow. Yes, my brother-in-law is in Los Molenos and he said they're getting a lot of rain off and on throughout the days. >> Yeah. Just getting uh trenched or I'm kind of hoping this is going to turn to rain, but I don't know. >> I was just looking at the forecast. Looks like after

003midnight it's supposed to start warming up and getting Oh, looks like Phil is just logging in so we can get going here. But after midnight supposed to warm up so hopefully, knock on wood. >> Yeah, it looks like the temperature is just hovering just around freezing. So, Okay. So, Phil, are you logged in? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, we we do have a quorum. So, all right. Jen, you want to lead us? >> Yeah. Let's go ahead and uh get this this started um with the pledge of allegiance. Um, so I pledge alleg Oh, have you guys stand there? There we go. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay.

004And then one sec. Okay, we are um at section three. Are there any additions, deletions, or a change of agenda items? >> Yes, I do need to request to make a change of agenda items to facilitate uh Mr. Steve Harper meeting with us. Mr. Steve is also a member of the Clealum uh city council. So he needs to move to that meeting after our meeting. So if it would be okay if we can move 8.2 >> agenda item 8.2 actually to item 3.1. And Mr. Harper is going to discuss with Mr. Brennan the uh possible updating of our exterior door and interior door electronic security system. >> Okay. So, I would need a motion to make sure we can >> I love it. I am all down for that. Can somebody motion to uh >>

005I'll make the motion. >> I second that motion. >> Okay. All in favor? I >> All right. And take it away. >> Okay. And now, Miss uh Miss Raron is with us now, too. Just logging in. So, Steve, which uh which of these would you like me to pull up first or what? >> You can actually I can I can give you a kind of a history for anybody just so they know where we're at. We've had we have a Stanley system at present that is just kind of aged out of into obsolescence and it's getting to the point where uh trying to fix it is just uh you know not something that within our scope of what we're able to do. Uh we do have uh we've applied for a grant for the O

006opsi. I don't do we have a do we have a status on that? >> Uh it closed last week. Uh but uh as OSPI moves, I'm not holding my breath. >> Sure. >> So the the one that we're recommending >> based on its thoroughess and completeness and and honestly modularity also >> everybody on the Wi-Fi >> is going to be the Cam Techch. uh if we can pull that up there and I can give you a couple highlights. But if you if you read through them, Cheek has been the most thorough and requires the least invasive procedures um as far as all of them, but also covers uh some things that were very important to us. the front door uh access and it's actually going to upgrade the access um on the front door to

007be able to open both doors. Also, they seem to be the most confident as far as the ability to be able to contact emergency services without an internet connection. It it does have a it does call for a backup uh cellular connection. Uh but all the other things seem to be very reliant on the internet where this one we can control it from a computer that's already existing and we can install their software on the existing computer. Uh but the others all seem to want to tie into a subscriptionbased system and them fixing it whenever something goes wrong where this one is using generic components uh that we would be able to service oursel and um and so that would be my recommendation is the uh MEX um offering and then I'm open to any

008questions that you may have. >> Uh Uh, and this is all just for the the remote remote unlock. >> No, this is for the ability Well, the ability to be able to have the doors that open with the badges. Um, and also to be able to alert us or to be able to alert law enforcement if a panic button is hit. >> Okay. >> And also to be able to hit have, you know, panic lock all the doors quickly and modularly allow only certain people access. It has all kinds of ladder logic to if we go into panic at that point we can revoke access like immediately to everything or switch access to only law enforcement personnel. It they all I would say in fairness all three options offer a lot of that. But this

009one again the maintenance our ability to be able to maintain it has been the main driver. not but it of also happens to be a lower on the cost and and no uh absorbent subscription fees attached to it. >> So this is basically replacing what we have but also doing a few upgrades with the panic buttons and some of the the detail that we >> and it heavily uses our already good infrastructure. We have good wiring. Nothing's wrong with the wiring. It's really the controllers on the end. And the other quotes uh considered either exorbitant subscription costs or extensive rewiring that we felt like was not necessary. >> Okay. And then and then we're looking at total cost the 1500 here. No, it's uh total cost is 41173 and the there may be a little

010bit of additional time in getting the system uh program staff time uh to get the the system programmed and um installed on our server. But I would say high-end we're talking a couple thousand dollars maybe three uh in that um you know support time which could certainly be documented and possibly if it is covered by the grant likely that staff time we would be able to uh present it in such a way that it it got covered by the grant if the grant comes through. But I would say we're at emergency like we have doors that that require staff to contact other staff to be able to open and >> Yeah. Okay. And >> this one requires a server. Do the other two require a server as part of their subscription? >> No, the subscription

011handle ends up being the server. Um and or they they all have different options where we can serve on site or not. The server though, we already have a a backup domain controller that's only been recently replaced and it has extra much extra capacity which would well serve this. And we kind of that's why we put it in that's why we put the extra capacity there so that it would in the future be able to handle these. It's currently serving the Stanley uh software which would just go away and in place this would serve uh this would be served there. As Steve said, we we have applied for a grant. It closed last week uh or a couple weeks ago. Uh still don't know the status of that. So much like we did with the

012the playground grant, you know, we used existing capital projects dollars for the playground and then backfill it once we receive grant funding. I again I would propose that we do the same thing here. Um since it's safety measure, I don't feel like wait. Uh, I'd like to get this done yesterday if we could. >> Yeah, I agree. >> I agree with >> Let's do it. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> A motion. >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? I >> I >> Okay. So, I just want to make make sure we're clear. We are going to accept the bid for Camt for the school district. uh I guess electronic what do they call it the access control system upgrade. So want to make sure that in our in our minutes. So

013thank you very much Mr. Harper. >> Hey thank you very much for your time and all your service to the community. Appreciate it. >> Thank you. >> Thanks. >> All right. >> We have any other um additions, deletions, or change of agenda items? No, that's that's all I'm aware of. I haven't been contacted by any uh community members uh to uh to talk with the board. We have nobody here in the audience other than myself and Mr. Brennan. So, okay. >> Rather rather quiet in the library this this >> All right. So, um assuming that is the same for the public comment though, but just to double check that there isn't any. >> Yeah, nobody has signed up for public comment and again nobody is in the library other than Mr. Mr. Bernie and myself.

014>> Okay. All right. So, let's hop ahead to the consent agenda review. Would anyone like to make the motion there to pay the peeps? Is there anything we need to talk about first? >> No, it's fairly routine. Payroll and other bills. Nothing nothing really jumping out that is uh worthy of noting. >> I will make a motion to pay the people. I second to pay the people. >> There we go. >> Great. All in favor? I >> thank you everybody. >> All right. Section six, the financial update report. Nicole's on. So we'll have you hop on and take it away with the year budget report. >> So this report is for fiscal year end 2425. Just um letting you know how we wrapped up the year. um we've had it certified and sent off to

015OSPI um last week I believe it was. So this first slide here is our fund summaries. It shows all the funds that the district has and um in the bold is 2425 and then in the unbold fiscal year 23 24. So, it shows you how we compare um our 2425 school year over 23 um 232 24 for all the different funds there. So, you'll see our beginning fund balance and our ending fund balance for all the funds. And then that little bottom section there is um all the things that make up our ending fund balance and how um and what part of them is reserved. Um in 2425 our enrollment decreased by 2.82 FTE. Our budget enrollment was um 82 and our um average enrollment was 83.09. And then you can see through the years

016how the um the enrollment has fluctuated. And then this is the general fund summary. This is exactly like the budget status reports that you get um that I present to you every month. Um the only thing that makes this one different is we have a 23 24 actual column and then we have a budget a column of 2425 and then an actual of 2425. So you can compare how our actuals from both years and then what we budgeted and see the increase or decrease. And then this is our general fund revenues. So you can see all the different sources of revenues and it also compares last year's actuals or 23 24 actuals to 24 25 actuals and then also what we budgeted. So you can see um where we landed um when you compare the

017the previous year. >> And Nicole, if there's something that you would like me to uh focus in on, please let me know. Oh, just >> yeah. And if you have any questions too, um it's just a lot of numbers. Just um go ahead and stop me and ask the questions. >> And then this is a a chart so you can see what um types of revenues the district receives. And as you can see, our local tax makes up 8% of our revenues and our state general purpose makes up 73% of our revenue. Um and then our federal general purpose makes up 3%. So the large majority of our revenues is coming from the state which is our um aortionate dollars and our um our FTE we get for the students we have for our enrollment.

018>> And and the local tax is our current EPNO levy. >> Yes, that's correct. >> Okay. And this is our expenditures by program. And um as you can see this since we compared 23 24 we still have some um esser line dollars in there which we'll be able to remove next year and clean them out and then we'll have less lines of numbers to look at. But just another way to break down all of our expenditures. Then expenditures by activity, which is another, it's all the same expenditures just broken down by a different um activity. So it it just drills down a little deeper so you can see what um expenditures in different categories are. >> Were there anything in this area that jumped out at you or anything of concern or anything of note?

019>> Nope. It was looking pretty good. Um, as I was working it up, I didn't see anything that popped out at me that um, I thought needed some extra attention. So, yeah, it looks good. And here's our expenditures by objects. So, it's um, same expenditure total just broken down by salaries, benefits, supplies, purchase, service, and travel. And then the graph that you can see where our um C certificated salaries makes up 33% of our expenditures. Our classified salaries make up 19% of our expenditures and our employee benefits make up 18%. And then purchase services 20% and our supplies um is 8%. >> And when you say purchase services, what uh what would fall into that category? Um that would be anything like a purchase contract for like um my contract or um anything with ESD

020105 that you're contracted for for your um your software supports um technology supports any contracts that um we have. >> We actually have quite a few special services uh supports. >> Yeah. Um sped services, any any contracts like that um makes up that 20%. In most school districts, you're going to see that, you know, that's spread out in the staffing. We have done it in a different route, too. >> Yeah. I would say about on average, um 70 to 80% could make up like a large district's um uh expenditures would be salaries and benefits would be range between 70 and 80%. And then our capital projects funds. Um this is the same format as you get is your budget status every month showing your revenues over expenditures. Um a debt service fund doesn't really have

021a lot of activity in there. The only thing that we flow through the debt service fund is our payment for our bus. And then our ASB funds um broken down just like the other summaries showing our revenues and expenditures. And then our transportation vehicle fund. We also didn't have any um expenditures in 242. Oh, in this did we buy our bus in this year? No, didn't >> that was a previous year. Yep. So, no um no expenditures in 2425 and transportation vehicle fund. >> Any questions on fiscal year 2425? As >> we we did buy a vehicle, we just bought it out of our general >> fund. So, that would be Yep. So, the vehicle flows through the general fund. We have a line item in there for motorpool. Um I think it's 75 activity

02275. So, if you um look through the report um under expenditures by activity, we'll see it. Um does that one say? >> Yep. There's right there. >> Is there any other questions? Thank you very much. >> Okay. >> Yeah. No, it looks good. >> Oh, good. Then we can look at this. Um, now these reports are as of October 31st. So, this is our three-year average showing for cash at 974,000. >> Still trending the right direction, which we like. >> Yep. And then our budget status as of October 31st showing that we are 17% of the way through our fiscal year and we've received about 15% of our budgeted revenues and we've spent 17%. So right at um the current because we're at 17% of the way through the year. So um trending expenditures with

023an ending fund balance of $996,000. anything that we want to call out uh for the board? >> Nope. And then the capital project spun um had a $500,000 balance and transportation vehicle fund um was 129,000. Scrolling a little. There we go. Yeah. $133,000 because you were just talking about that um running that if we didn't get the grant, the capital projects fund could support that. Yeah, >> I'm I'm probably going to ask the board at a later time if we don't get the ADA grant uh if we can uh go ahead and move ahead with the purchase of bleachers for the gym and then if we do get the grant then then backfill like we like we have in the past because I think that's a safety issue we need to address immediately. Yeah. Any

024other questions for for Nicole? >> No. Thank you, Nicole. >> Yeah. Thank you for great a great school year again there. >> Yeah. >> And we s we saw we saw Trisha over the last weekend, too. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. She did say she was headed over to that conference as well. I think she did a day trip, though, or a quick trip. It was really cool to connect with her at the um >> discussion on what um what that group is all doing. So >> yeah. >> Thank you Nicole. >> Yep. You're welcome. >> Thank you Nicole. >> Happy day. Well this uh if you don't mind we can we jump into item 7.1 which is the superintendent report? Yes, >> thank you. Um, our enrollment currently is at 83. Um, originally in beginning

025November, we were at 82, but we had a kindergarter student join us uh last week, so we're happy about that. So, we are we are tracking in the right direction and getting more kids. So, that's very good. Um, speaking of getting more students, uh, we are now, I think I've told the board, working with this company called Enroll Now. Um, they did come up just before Halloween and did some filming here on campus, interviewed some students, interviewed some parents, uh, and created a really nice video that is now up on the social media and getting nice views. And as a result of that, I've had I think 16 parents as of today that have maybe not parents, but 15 people have reached out to to us that they're interested. Uh immediately after I get their

026interest, I text them back and email them and see if we can follow up with a tour of the school or a longer conversation. So hopefully that will continue and we will get some more students uh in our doors, but certainly the interest is there from uh from the community out there. The I think the video I don't know how many thousands of times it's been viewed, but every time I'm on Facebook, I see uh Austin Brown's face pop up and start talking about which is which is great. So we're making progress. Um, lastly, we just mentioned that we ran into Trish at the WASDA conference, but Jason and Jen and I presented on Friday of last week, a small school turnaround. Um, I want to say we probably had 40 to 50 people there

027and I don't want to take all the the time on this, but uh, from my point of view, it was a very positive session. lots of good great questions from uh superintendent, from board members, and just a very positive and again I want to thank both of you for for helping me and especially thank Jen for uh suggesting the idea at the beginning. I was not real excited about it, but I'm glad we did it. Uh you know, I'm glad we got our our message out there and our story and also got some some nice publicity for the district. So, with that, I'll leave leave it up to Jason or Jen to talk about their experience. >> Uh, well, I mean, >> Jason, >> going into it, like I had mentioned, I mean, I thought

028I thought we were going to have too much time, you know, an hour to present and we actually ran short. There were a lot of questions. So, it's it's pretty evident that there are a lot of districts kind of in the same same boat that we were in. So, >> yeah, there were there were definitely other um people coming up to us at the end who um wanted to um get help with was trying to figure out what to do and what kind of resources they could use. But it's it's pretty easy like Jason said to we only had that hour and so we had um you know all this time to brag about how the district's doing but also you know all of that came from where we were um in back in 2019

029and 20 where stuff was just a real mess and there was um you know the the loss of of culture and a lot of just stuff was not was so disconnected and um not not really great for students at that point. And now we've come through so much to just bring this back up to speed to have a a true and thriving student population here right now with that culture back and just really having um you know that experience coming from great leadership and um from our board um being here and supportive of everything that that the district's able to do. So, yeah. So, thanks to all of you guys for for making that a reality. I'm so thankful for Erin and Jason for um you know, helping with the presentation and getting it all

030put together and just the opportunity to really kind of discuss where we've been and and where we're at and where we're going is it's pretty awesome. Fun to >> Yeah, exactly. I feel like we have a lot of follow-up stuff that we can give to people too to be like, "All right, here's some takeaways that, you know, might help." >> Well, and Jenny mentioned kind of culture of the building. You know, before the board meeting, we had uh wrestling with our five of our kids. We had high school girls basketball and we also had mini cheer going on all at the same time. So, it's it's awesome to see life in the building and, you know, kids getting able to do the activities that they want to do. So, again, thank you very much for

031for helping me. Uh, and yeah, it was it was fun. It it really was. Uh, last time in my uh report is I've been asked to be part of the UDub superintendent budget group. And as I mentioned in the in my short report here, there are three groups that are kind of looking at K12 finance uh in the state of Washington, the the UDub soup group. Uh there's one called the big picture group that is started by one of the legislators and then OSPI had a had a group which I think met over time during the summer and fall but now I think has basically disbanded or become inactive. But I I wanted to be part of this because our needs as a small small district are very much different than those of Spokane or

032Seattle or Northshore, some of those other larger districts. And our needs in the east part of the state or and central part of the state are different than in the western part of the state. So when I was offered to be part of it, I jumped at it and wanted to make sure that I can carry, you know, the the power of a small school district to um probably to people who have never experienced it. You know, they've been through larger systems, they've worked in larger systems, they don't know what it's like to be in a small district and and the power that we have here. So we met once before the WASDA meeting. Um I think they've met a total of five times. So this was a a meeting five. So, I just joined

033it and we'll continue with that and continue to give the the board updates on it and to continue to advocate for Easton and small schools like us. >> Yeah, I think that's great. >> Thank you, Aaron. I know you wear a lot of hats. We appreciate when you take another one on. >> Well, that's that I guess that was one of the questions that we had in our session is, you know, how do you do this many hats? And my response is you just do it. And there's no magic formula. I I don't know. You just do it. If you like your job, you do it. >> Were there any um like um content from that small district um was that happened on Saturday morning? Was there any >> No, you know, really that a

034lot of that meeting was there to acknowledge uh Alyssa Dyson who is the retiring school board member from Onion Creek. She's been on a school board in Onion Creek for 40 years. >> Oh, wow. >> Yeah, she does. >> If you recall, I I was at Onion Creek before I was at Eastston. So, I I knew Alyssa and >> probably one of the smartest people I've I've ever met. So, a lot of that was, you know, given given to her to kind of uh talk about her experiences. I wouldn't say there was anything new. We had some tabletop activities and we actually a couple people from our session were at my same table and we talked a little bit more about what we did here at Eastston. So content wise, no there wasn't a lot

035of lunch was good but the content it was really there to honor Alyssa and her work. Um somebody sitting next to me said well what does she do you know for a job? And I said schoolboard. No, what does she do outside of school of school board? I just said schoolboard. I mean, that was her life. Uh, >> wow. >> Incred incredible lady. So, >> so cool. It's really amazing to have people that are able to um be involved that long and make such a difference. >> She, you know, in times when they had ser superintendent turnover or were looking for superintendent, she, you know, unofficially filled that role many, many times over the course of 40 years. as you know, it's bit of a challenge to get uh get administrators up in that area

036because it is a pretty pretty remote, but it's it's a beautiful location, too, though. So, I was honored to work with her. >> Yeah. >> All right. Well, hopping into um the um operations report. Jeff, go ahead. >> Okay. Um, Steve already kind of went over the key card access system. So, um, I won't I won't go over that one too much. Um, unless you guys are interested in the other other quotes, but Steve pretty much nailed it. You know, with one of them, it was going to be like we would have to wait till summer. Um, that would be Pettown hardware before they'd even be in work on it. Um, >> Cororum AI, they had a really good pitch, but man, that licensing fee is heavy every three years. So, um, you kind of

037put a damper on things with that. Um, like the technology that they offer and the options, but >> that's every three years dropping 32,000, we just that's a lot. So, um, Cam Techch, they just seem wellrounded. So, they seem wellrounded, knowledgeable. They ask a lot of really great questions and kind of just they're real friendly and easy to work with. Um, you know, as far as, you know, doing the walkound. So, kind of excited about that. Uh, moving on to the re keying project. Uh, we do have five dead bolts on the doors that aren't latching. Uh, we did a kind of a lock down drill and where we were able to kind of figure out the kinks on some of those doors. So, we have five doors not latching, three doors in the district

038office. don't function at all. I don't know if it's due to settling or if um you know the dead bolts are just in there too tight or whatnot, but I have contact Miss Kim Cordova with Beautytown Sound Hardware. They are planning on coming out first week of December to um try and figure that out. Um so, um we'll get those taken care of so everything's working smoothly and then they'll be finishing up the remaining cores. >> Okay, >> moving on to the solar power project. Um, we've been assigned a DES project manager, Mr. Bill Bass. Um, he's just helped there to help make sure that the project stays on track. Um, I'll be working with him and he and I together, I'll just make sure that everything's kind of working smoothly and, uh, they're doing

039what they need to be doing. Um he also reviews um any contract any contract changes uh with um commerce, anything like that. He'll negotiate those issues and then he reviews the paperwork before they get sent off. So it's kind of a double header um where ATS will review the paperwork. I'll review the paperwork with ATS and then it'll then get passed on to Mr. Bill Bass. He'll review it, make sure there's no flaws or anything that stands out before we send it off to commerce. Uh ATS has finalized the IG proposal. Um that's uh now in Mr. Bill Ba's hands. Um once he uh reviews that and says everything's good to go, we'll send that off to commerce and then we can move forward from there. Uh as far as um acquisition of the product

040and equipment. Um moving on, John Deere tractor. Um I noticed a hydraulic leak coming from the John Deere tractor. our new tractor that we just got um called Mr. Dylan Sers to come out because I was concerned that I broke something when I installed the uh the the snow blower. Um but um Mr. Dylan Sers was able to confirm that it's actually coming from the transmission. Looks like a failed transmission uh seal that's in there. So I had John De or Pape Machinery come and pick up the tractor. They're the ones we bought the tractor from. Um they checked it out. Um, I know on the form it says I hadn't received an update. Well, after submitting this, I gotten a call shortly afterward from them and we do have uh an update on that.

041We probably won't see the tractor back here again until mid December um because they're going to have to split the tractor to get to the transmission and fix the um transmission seal. No cost out of our pocket. Um, as far as the repairs go for the tractor, uh, it all falls under a warranty. So, they'll get crank and I did let them know we are school district. It is our means of plowing snow. So, they're going to try and expedite the process. And so, hopefully they'll be able to do that and um, get it back to us before mid December, but um, they said to plan on mid December. >> What What are we doing for snow removal interim? Um, so today, um, I had contacted, uh, Pro Rentals and Clem there. Um, I do

042have a skid skier here, um, that I have renting, so um, I can take care of, uh, any snow plowing. I don't have a a a snow blower necessarily to re relocate the snow, but I've mapped out a few locations in the meantime where I can pile snow up um and make sure that it's out of the way, leaving the parking lot and student drop off, bus drop off, and then the bus garage area um clear and free of snow. >> Okay. So, perfect timing for the tractor to go down right before start. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. How many hours are on that tractor? >> Uh 78 hours. Yeah, 78 hours. >> Um granted, you know, I I did give it a good trial run over the summertime. Gave it lots of work. So, um

043you know, >> Wow. >> supposed to be worked. >> It is. It is. Yeah. And so, I was a little shocked when uh I I saw pooling hydraulic fluid underneath it. I mean, it wasn't spurting out. It was a slow leak, but um I wanted to get it taken care of before it became one. I'd hate to be out there plowing snow and then it decides to really erupt. Um now we have a parked tractor in the middle of the parking lot. So >> Yeah. With hydraulic fluid everywhere. While we're at that, it's it's been eventful October and November. Um, you know, with the key card access system um having the fits that it was having um and then the re King project and John Deere tractor and um and then I'll fill in on

044the exciting events for the transportation report here. Um so bus service was having an issue. You drive down the road and it wanted to work its way open. Now it doesn't fly open. it just opens just enough and then stops where the lights will start to flicker in the in the wheel well. So, um what I've done is I just took the whole assembly um open it all up, looked at everything. Um I adjusted the tension arms as much as I could um but it didn't seem to be fixing anything. So, then I started looking at the big se uh big selector gear on it. It's just a big black gear wheel. And um essentially what I found is it skipped two teeth. So I checked the gear box just to make sure all the

045teeth were in good working order. They weren't worn down or broken. It looked okay to me. So um what I did is I just readjusted the large selector gear. Um two teeth and it seems to be holding up fine. It's been on an athletic event already on some pretty rough roads and the door seemed to hold fine. So haven't had any reports of it opening up yet. So, I think that's uh solved that issue. Um, as far as bus two, bus two uh two is showing signs of wear um on the hood against the driver side fender. Um, I've made adjustments to that hood. Uh, but the the rubbing still kind of seems to persist. So, I'll need to make some fiberglass repairs to that fender just to keep a hole from rubbing through it.

046And then um uh some there's these plastic blocks that are in there and they seem pretty worn down. So I'm going to get some new ones of those, put those in, see if that helps tighten things up as far as the adjustments I've made on it, and then uh opens up the clearance between that and the fender to alleviate any further wear and tear on that. Um it is a repable thing. Um I don't need to get a new fender or anything like that. I've done fiberglass repair um on things like this, so um it shouldn't be too hard of a project. I just need a day where um I've got to get, you know, four hours for the set um and well to make the repair and then let let the epoxy set up

047um before the buses. Uh transit van transit van turbo on the driver's side um was starting to go out. So I um got a hold of ClintM Automotive. They currently have our Transit van. Um they did confirm that the turbo was going out. Um there was some internal leaking going on within the turbo. Um as well as some broken manifold bolts or exhaust manifold bolts. Um unfortunately we won't probably see the transit van until again until the first week of December hopefully. Um if they can get the studs out that sheared out on the exhaust manifold um with the the tools that they have, they won't have to pull the engine. if they can't get those studs out, they said they may have to pull the engine. Um, which would um prolong that to perhaps

048the second week of December. So, we'll be out the transit van for a short time longer. Um, my hope is they'll be able to get those studs out, but if they do get the engine out, um, I told them, I want you to give that engine a really good look over. Make sure there's nothing else that's broken on it or anything. Um, I like Ford engines, but at or Ford vehicles, but at the same time, it is a Ford engine. It's an EcoBoost. So, trying to work on that while it's in the vehicle is a royal pain in the butt. What's normally a 30 minute project with those usually turns into a two-hour project. So, I was not shocked. Said it would be a 25 hour project to fix this turbo. >> So, anyway, they

049want to check the other turbo just make sure that's good because we don't want to have a repeat process. So, if if the other turbo shows that it's good in good shape, we'll just leave that as is and then replace the the one that's going out. Sienna van, uh the Sienna van does currently have a recall on it and working with Toyota as far as um getting uh a solution to that recall. The second row seat had um on certain lines of the 2025 Toyota Sienna LE, there were incorrect welds put on the second row seat, making it a liability in the event of a high speed or a high impact high-speed impact uh type collision. Uh they don't they're working on a solution. They are getting closer to having a solution for that. Um

050and then they'll notify me once they do. Um, in the meantime, the uh Sienna is the only van that we have. So, um, it kind of comes down to is this something that we need to take out of service or, um, you know, what goes what goes along with that? Um, I'm inclined to take it out of service just because of the liability. But then again, our welds could be perfectly fine. So, I need to set up an appointment with Toyota. >> Well, and what do they classify as high speed? Uh, and that's that's a great question. So, another question that I need to ask them and then I need to have them look at the welds and confirm whether you know our welds fall within that category or not. If they say, "No, your

051welds are fine. Don't worry about it." Great. We don't need to worry about it. We can rest easy. They say the welds are uh not right, then um I'll have to pull the van out of service until we get that uh get that situated. I do not want to be driving down the road at 60 mph, have a crazy driver hit our van, and then um suddenly the second row seat decides to pop out. Um go for a ride. >> Um so, uh other than that, um that's kind of the that's the report, um I have for you for this month. Like I said, it's been an eventful October and November. Um just trying to keep up with the various things. Um, but never- ending learning opportunities is kind of how I'm looking at it.

052So, >> it it has not been a better week for uh Eastern School District uh >> vehicles, so we'll put it that way. >> It's coming right at you there. >> I'm sorry about that. >> Yeah. >> All right. On on to section 73, the board member report. Uh, I know Jason and I had a chance to already talk about Wazda, but was there anything else or we can go right to the 81 board business, the levies? >> So, what uh are attached in board docs are two different proposals or excuse me, two different propositions. We have proposition one which is replacement of our current operational levy and then an oper excuse me proposal two is for basically a capital levy to improve school facilities uh in the gym. Uh I know we've talked about

053this uh in in previous meetings. We've had Corey here to discuss it as well, but this is kind of the final piece that that I need. uh and the district needs in order to get placed up on uh on the ballot. Um I've also shared this is from Mr. Corey Plagger about basically the uh estimated cost uh to our uh our community. See right now we're paying 20 24 cents that'll remain at 24 cents per thousand and our capital project levy will be at 25 cents per thousand. Um hopefully you've seen some of the materials that have been been shared either in newsletters or up on the website about our tax rate. Currently we're the lowest in the state of Washington at 20 cents per thousand uh and certainly the lowest in Kittas County with

054the potential approval of both of these levies. will still be at uh lowest in the in Kitatas County and probably might move a few steps up uh in terms of overall levy in terms of the statewide maybe instead of 289 we'll be at 280. Um so that is what uh I guess I would ask the board if they would make motions to either approve uh uh or not approve both levies. If we could do those separately that would be great. Yeah, I'll make a motion to approve both of these. >> Proposition one and two. Yeah. >> All right. All in favor? >> I >> thank you very much. >> Awesome. >> And I did hear from >> Director Helguson. He had a work emergency. Couldn't be here, but I did ask him, okay, Chris, what

055are your thoughts about the levies? and his vote was a a heck yeah. So, we are >> beautiful. >> We are in >> we in agreement and and we're in good company. Uh I know Thorp is going to be running Kitas I think is running two measures as well. Um, and I'm working with uh a gentleman to help us kind of frame our messaging on our lovey so it's easy for our community to to understand and you know see what uh what questions they have that we can answer better. So, um, more to follow with that and, um, again, I'm hoping we get some people that come in and want really want to see that gym floor because it's, you know, it looks beautiful from afar, but you know, you you step onto it and

056it's got problems and hopefully I'll get some community members that would like to do that. But, thank you very much for approving both of those. And I would ask um because this is a resolution that a resolution, excuse me, that I need to take to the auditors that in the next next week after we return from Thanksgiving break, if you could stop by the office and sign both of those. I didn't want to do a docu sign uh with this because they have to go to the auditors. So, if you could, you know, >> I'll meet you out in the car if you need to. I'll meet you anywhere, but we're to we have to have everything in by December 12th. So, I'm giving our ourselves the December 5th, which is next Friday, to have

057it all done. But >> I would very much appreciate that and I will uh continue to hound you until you sign it. So, how I'll put it that way. All right. >> Yeah. Heck yeah. >> Oh, that's such a relief. Yay. >> Yes. Thank you very much. That's be an awesome thing for our kids in our community. All right, we're at section 83, the annual board reorganization. Um, and per the the uh instructions here, um, we don't have any newly elected board members, but we do have some reelected board members that we can congratulate in, including um, Chris and Haley and myself. Yay. >> Absolutely. Um yeah and then just you know thank the uh uh Jason and myself for um doing the chair and vice chair from this past year. Um before we do

058the call for nominations I did just want to do a quick intro um and make just a a quick um suggestion that um potentially we do not completely follow our our changeover this year. Um, the reason for that being that, uh, you know, I've I've had an under, um, ability to support the board chair position. And one thing I realized this past spring, um, when graduation was happening, you know, I was there with with Jade, who was my junior at the time, and she was, you like, "Oh, cool. You're going to be signing my diploma when I graduate." And I was like, "Oh, actually, probably not." Cuz, you know, we're supposed to be cycling, uh, through. And I hadn't really, you know, like thought about that too much, but it just really got me wanting

059to um if I was the board chair this next year, you know, I can put my um signature onto all those graduates that I've been getting through the door from K through 12. And it just seemed like it would it would kind of be fun to be able to um continue in a capacity where um I'm actually more thriving um in in my health and personal life. So, it's just been um you know, like I'm I'm able to make up for a lot of the years where I wasn't able to to cycle through that. Um and so anyway, I um will now go ahead and put out the call for nominations for the chair or the president to serve for the ensuing year. >> Uh okay. Well, I I mean I already kind of spoke

060my piece at the last meeting. Um, I am still I think Haley would make a great chair personally. Well, whether or not she wants that role or not, I mean, >> I'm I'm game for whatever you guys ask me to do. You know me, they ask and I don't know how to say no. It's It's a realtor thing. >> Yeah. Okay. Any other nominations? >> I personally look at >> Okay. >> Sorry, I'm getting over a cold. I personally look at the uh >> the deals we have coming up possibly with our intervening with Clem's bus stop area and all that. And I think that with the connections that she has, I I would actually second a nomination for Haley being the chair on that one. Um, she knows people over there and she probably

061can sweeten sweeten the deal when we start trying to put our bus in Leon area to get people down to down to Houston. So I can >> and I think our our board members can do that. They don't have to be chair to contribute to that as well. >> Commenting and one other thing is I mean we all we all sign a diploma you know so I'm not worried about the and I don't want you to worry about that. But I can kind of go >> we can make all the board members sign that you know the diplomas are our diplomas. Five trauma for the past five years. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So, does would everyone like to vote then um for the election? >> So, I'll I'll I will make a

062motion or I'll put my name in the vote or hat or whatever for Haley Pair. Um, I don't really have a preference for vice chair either way. >> Um, and >> personally for me, it'll either be Jason or Jen. So, either one of you guys >> I we were doing whoever was chair was going to vice chair. So, that is what we've done the last three years. So, >> that idea >> we had whoever was chair becoming the vice chair the last few years. So, that that's fine with me. Yeah, >> I mean I will also >> put in for Haley for chair. Yes, >> as well. >> All right. >> So, I have a second. >> Oh, sorry. Did you say you need a second? >> No, I said I I will put in

063for a second. >> Oh, gotcha. Yeah. All right. Okay. All in favor? >> I >> Yeah. Okay. So then a motion of the office by the new chair president. So Haley Okay. Now call for nominations for the vice chair uh to serve during the ensuing year. >> Jen, it sounds like you just volunteered yourself to be vice chair. >> That's what it sounded like. >> I'll make a motion. >> Second. my vote. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. So, um, everybody can vote on that. Um, >> I Okay. All in favor? >> I put my vote in. >> Jen, vice chair. Yes. >> Yeah. Cool. >> Heck yeah. All right. Woohoo. All right. And now, um, calls for nominations for the WASDA legislative rep to serve for the next two years. >> Not it.

064>> Yeah. uh already assigned >> some >> that says even numbered years an odd numbered year. Right. Right. >> I'm happy to serve kind of as an interim in that role or Jason if you'd like to do it. I am absolutely whatever the board would like me to do. That sounds like a great idea. Let me know if you need anything, Erin. If you need somebody to go to the state, I got that. But I'm losing my head on most of that stuff. >> Hey, Erin, I think you're smarter than all of us, so I nominate you. >> Yeah. >> I'm happy to continue doing that. Uh, and we'll and will continue. That's that's what the board would like me to do. So, no problem. The only other more time than you is Haley and

065she already has her hands full. >> I mean, I'm there enough. If we need something, y'all just need to ask and I can talk our I I can talk to our legislators, but again, a lot of it's still over my head. I I am uh I have it in my draft an email to Senator Warick about our sound barrier >> that we keep you know I we brought it up last session didn't go anywhere. I will keep again I will CC the board on that to see if we get any traction from DOT to to do that for us. there's some lowcost options out there that, you know, are not the millions and millions of dollars that the pre-cast concrete solutions are. So, um, we'll we'll see what happens. We know the legis we know

066this session is going to be a tough one, but, uh, we'll, uh, keep the fingers crossed, so to speak. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Hopping on to section 84, the strategic plan. >> Yeah, thank you. Um, so, you know, we've been working on this for, let's see, probably a year now, kind of stops and starts. Um, basically there's three goals that uh the staff has kind of worked to uh dial in and with board support obviously increase our enrollment, do what we can do better in the classrooms to support our kids and offer different options for them and get more parents and community members in the school. So, some pretty basic uh goals, but we have some metrics to measure those. Um, you know, at this point, I don't know how much more misogyny

067we can do on the strategic plan. I'd rather I'd ask that the board would uh make a motion to adopt us or send us back to the drawing board. Um, but I think this is about where we need to be and goal one has to be enrollment. That's >> that's where we need to spend our time and and and our energy and our dollars to make sure we continue to be a vibrant option for for kids. So, um I guess I would request the board uh do a motion and we can either adopt this or go back to drawing board. And if adopted, then I can start putting in, you know, the graphics and make it look pretty and all that kind of good stuff because right now it's pretty uh pretty sterile, but that's

068okay. We'll uh we'll make it look pretty and >> pretty can come later, Aaron. >> Yeah, absolutely. >> The meat is there. I went through this pretty thoroughly. I'm I'm inclined to approve this and to move forward with it. >> I make a motion to adopt it. >> Second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> Yeah. >> It looks really good. >> I would like to share just one anecdote and I know you you probably can't see this, but I went I I went to a session at WADA uh about strategic plan and this is one from a small district called Kalama School District. It's it's a beautiful plan. They did a beautiful video. Um it was really I mean it's really well done. Um you can see that they spent a considerable amount of time

069and money in in this development but there was one slide in this presentation that showed their fund balance. So uh and it looked like a a ski run up at the pass. So I I then did some digging because you know they were really excited about this strategic plan which and they should be because obviously it took a heck of a lot of work but for the last two years they have got aortionment advances basically they they're out of money >> so they're getting loans from OSPI early for the last two years but I mean I don't want to speak neg negatively but I guess I appreciate the board and your your willingness to let me put our priorities where they need to be. our prior priority should be enrollment, but these guys are spending

070I don't know how much time doing this, which is a fabulous document, don't get me wrong, but when you don't have money in the door, um I it just seemed interesting that this was where their energy went versus, you know, making sure they can keep the lights on and and they don't go into binding conditions. Um but it it just struck me as odd. Amazing the things that people do for a shiny object that kind of just distracts from that fund balance. >> I'll make it till you make it. >> I I guess I'm more practical and you know I'll keep the sterile looking uh strategic plan. Uh and then we can print it up later as long as we have money in the bank and clearly >> for that. >> Yeah. >> Right. Yeah.

071For the school, for the students. Something tells me that we could drop one of our juniors or seniors that document in Canva and that they can make it real pretty for us if we asked them to and make a project >> and not pay somebody hundreds of thousands of dollars. I mean, I remember when we had the person come in to talk about doing it. And I can't remember what the quote was, but it was out freaking. >> Yeah. And >> you and Jessica have done a fabulous job along with the rest of the staff who have put into this. I I think that this is lovely. It is a beautiful document, but it it seems like it's a brochure from the University of Washington. I don't think it would resonate with our community uh

072very well. It's I mean, >> it's well done. >> Again, I just want to share. Thank you for for indulging me with that and thank you for approving our uh strategic plan. We can move >> what what was the result of the um the survey that we did about the strategic plan? um theme or not theme um >> the uh >> slogan. >> I'm going to review that with the staff at our next early release. There was no clear-cut winner. >> Okay. Where did those come from? I wasn't sure. >> Those came from the gentleman that I'm working with uh for our levy um materials. He's a marketing he's a marketing person that the district is now working with and um actually works with some some of the other local businesses and um kind of

073doing a two-pronged approach and with our enroll now and with this gentleman and we'll we'll see who comes out ahead and which one uh provides us the better service for the price. All right, the uh >> Hey, Jen. Um, real quick, just going back on that slogan deal. Erin, just as a general rule, when I have tried to do these polls, if you set them up as multiplechoice, you tend to get a better response because when people have to type for whatever reason, we're lazy humans and we don't want to. You can always throw an other box in, but I just >> my my experience with doing those. >> Yeah. >> Gotcha. Thank you. >> Welcome. Yeah, it was a little bit of looking back and forth to like copy paste. >> All right, the

074policy review. Would someone like to um have a motion to approve policies 5270 to 5404? >> Again, these these policies are basically deal with with staff um family medical leave, sick leave, personal leave. I don't think there's really nothing controversial there for adoption of those policies. The policies for from WASDA uh1 is oath of office and 3241 is student discipline which they've just recently made some adjustments to. So really I don't think anything real controversial for us there. >> Make a motion to approve the uh policies on the screen. Yeah, >> I get a second. >> I'll second that motion. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I >> All right. Thanks for that. >> All right. And we've made it to uh section nine for the uh good of the district. Um, I want to

075say again, thank you to Jason and Jen for presenting with me. It was a positive event. A couple got a couple big thank yous to our staff members. Um, during the time at Wazda, they held a potluck here at the school. That was Miss Flag and Miss Fry. And you know, from the turnout was great. Some lots of good food. And they're also doing a clothing and toy drive right now. and we'll later on have a popup shop for community members and parents to come in and pick through some, you know, clothing and whatever else they need as we go through the winter. But Miss Flag's classroom right now looks like a uh almost like a department store with all the the clothing that has been donated by by the community. So, really appreciate all

076that they're doing to help out others in the community. And again, thank you for the work that Haley and and Maddie are doing on spearheading that. Um, and last >> go ahead. >> They're accepting donations until December 7th. >> Yes. Yep. So, if you have a bag of clothes, a bag of toys or books, um, bring them on in and we'll, uh, we'll get them all ready to go. Um, I just want to say thank you to the board for your ongoing support. um you know, Thanksgiving here in a in a in in a day or two. So, I'm very thankful for working with a board that puts kids needs uh first and ego board members and administrators second. Uh it's about the kids. >> So, I appreciate all that you do. So, thank you.

077>> Yeah. >> I'm looking forward to seeing the whole school look me, right? new new gymnasium, new new bleachers, uh the football field. I'm just looking forward to next year. >> Yeah, >> absolutely. >> I'll echo what Erin said about the potluck. I was able to go and volunteer and help him out over there and it they did an amazing job. We had amazing spread. I definitely did not run out of food and it was just great getting to see everybody come out and bring the kiddos and all the kids were having a great time. It was awesome. >> And yeah, I I think that those dinner type events, I think that tends to draw in more people from the community. Uh maybe not necessarily potluck, but like potato feeds or spaghetti feeds or you

078know. Yeah, it's great bringing everybody in and giving everybody an opportunity to take a peek. Erin, do we do like a celebration of learning? I'm sure I can't remember if we do or not. Like if we bring open the school up and have all the kids stuff on display and do we do that? I can't remember. >> We did that I want to say last spring right when we did our um kind of the end of the year stuff with the kids. >> Gotcha. Uh, you know, we did our elementary and secondary assembly. I think we had a lot of stuff on display for for parents to come in and look at. >> Cool. I was just curious. >> All right. Yeah, I think we have a Oh, Phil, anything? >> No, I don't have

079anything. >> Phil's just ready to go take a nap and recover from this cold. >> Yes. Heck yeah. Well, extremely grateful for everyone in this district. I hope you all have an incredible holidays with your family and look forward to seeing everybody uh in December. >> Yeah, >> I make a motion to adjourn the meeting. >> Second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I stay warm and dry. Thank you very much. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. >> Happy Thanksgiving.
