Beverly vs Somerville High School Football

001[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] welcome Beverly high school football fans to herd stadium on a little bit over past October 7th Saturday afternoon for the game between the Beverly High Panthers and the Highlanders of Somerville High School how high is the land at 70 and um these teams come in here Beverly is one and three and Somerville is two and two and I was talking to my cohort Bob hops here who tells me that against common opponents they're pretty even right very much so they have both played and lost to learn English and to glossa but the spreads by which they lost were very similar I know almost nothing about some of the other than their record and those final scores of those two games therefore up on that alone I'm going to predict this

003a very close game as I said earlier I'm basing that solely on the two teams record against common opponents which they have both lost to learn English and lost applause however but the the differential between in those games was pretty much the same yourself I'm thinking this could be closer than well if everybody was making a guess at all I'm probably for close game alrighty now I didn't see what happened on the toss did you Bob well Beverly is lining up on the 50 so that means they're going to be receiving the ball obviously and they'll usually have Clark Marshawn and Almere Alice Rafi back deep and that looks like they are getting it back for their coffee number two and Clark Marcia a number 28 both of them are good good running backs good

004I think I'll shop he had a couple of one of the games he had a return to touch the kickoff return for a touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown so both of these guys can break it down clock crash on has had a very quiet great year he's fair he's in the in the top 10 in receptions and touchdowns and dad's gained on the ground he's productive player and while they were warming up we saw Duncan Moreland number 23 taking some snaps during warm-ups rather than Ryan Bearer who's been the backup quarterback so we'll see what Coach Morin see you know with a one-in-three record he may want to experiment a little bit and for for the for the Somerville team number seven Emerson Clemens is is kicking off and it's a Wow

005it's a huge huge kick whoa way back into the end zone and what's he running it out I guess he must have touched it yeah oh wow it's almost for safety yeah oh my god he made a mistake in touching that ball that was really a bad mistake he should just it was going right into the end zone why he didn't leave it there gonna take over on about there one no nothing marking but the three yard line so we'll see oh boy what a way to start a game even if they don't take it for months of the field they have got to get out of this hole they're gonna hand the ball over to some very nice field positions deep hole to start the game so Nick berry is at quarterback and it

006was there Beverly Panthers are in the in the huddle the center comes out over the ball and they break the huddle he's got a mare else Raffy and back of him I'll see what happens there there he's got Marsh on in motion he stops looks like they may have caught I think they got a free play here because I think they may have caught and it's a 285 oh he had his men who had his hands on on the ball there's Bobby Adams for Bobby Adams I know they don't watch the fleet jumped off site and I don't think he get back in time yeah so it looks like a penalty against dance or you're right there so that was a free play really so they'll have first in five a little bit more breathing

009was consulting with the coach Andrew Morin see this is the second year as head coach for Marty a very nice 9 and 3 record in his his debut coaching year for Beverly yep yeah a good team washer they graduate they're an awful lot of good seniors and this year has been a little bit more of a rebuilding year but - I see every week they take it a little bit better than that's on the coaches quick to them it's a pitch back there on the left side and it's a nice game and that was played in MacAlpine number 12 who's also a very good running back he's seeing a lot of duty this year and they got the first down so Beverly is moving in the ball well here now this was just really if

010they if they could run this ball all the way down and score would take up a lot of time and give them a lot of confidence getting that first score the game that that's important the boost took them work to their morale and their confidence is what's really important on a drive like this and so far let's look good they've got a very tight formation this time and it's a gift to the second man right up the middle and that's al Shafi and he gains about 2 maybe 3 yards that was tough sledding in there goings that tough about 3 yards on that play that was there they had a very tight formation there one no no nobody outflanked anywhere he's just all 11 men are thin a couple of feet of the ball I'm

011out Somerville so Somerville takes a timeout they want to kind of reset their defense Beverly's been able to move the ball on on every play and so far they look they look good well even when they have only gained 2 or 3 yards they the line players look pretty good they've been able to move what looks to be a bigger Summerville line pretty much out of their way and so far it's been all Beverly so far so number five is Pat Parsons who's had a couple of nice catches this year during the season he's out wide right and it looks at past play all the way barriers and it's complete - Clayton MacAlpine for about a seven-yard gain alphai maybe more looks like a about a third down and two they have to get to

012two almost to the 35 just short of the 35 so they got a yard you know it's the key play here on this drug they've got to make this or they've got to punt the ball because they're too deep in their own there's a warrant - this is almost free we've got to get it to about the 34 and a half yard line I think a run to the outside oh my god he's got it no oh he's sure sorry sharp but short they the the the Somerville defense they had that play figured out and it was a fake to the other side and they so Beverly come up to taking the ball over on their own two yard line his face with a fourth and the one North in a long one one and

023who is Elmer else Rafi and else Rafi takes it's a 7 yard game so they had the first two guys blow through the hole and then give it to the third guy so yeah here come on nice block for any time you can get something eyes on your first brush and you're in good shape yeah so it's that it looks like they're giving them about six on that so it's about second down and four for Beverly again they came up come out in that tight eye formation and look very calling signals and gives it to the third man again and he breaks a tackle and second effort on them to get another two or three yards so it's third and about one they need to get down to the 36 yard line of it looks

024like they need about two yards not give it to the third man throw this time that takes a lot of time that the defense is kind of looking for that now because they do it so often paid now's the time to drop back nope that's the end of the first quarter that's a fast quarter everything was on the ground yeah you're right you're right there with maybe what to do Pass is thrown that hole three passes thrown yeah and there's a chapter clock so at the end of the first quarter here at herd stadium the Beverly Panthers 0 and the Somerville build Iowa's Highland understand close to me typical Highlanders 0-0 and Beverly showed it it could move the ball on the ground and they're in the middle of a of a decent decent series

025here but this is their third series well the 13 the first service was a very good series to the only one that was moved at office after the recovered recovered the fumble on the putt that next series kind of bogged down very quickly but the first series when they came out from almost on their own goal line and culture were 35 or 36 yard line and now they're moving the ball again so they have the ball on their opponents 38 30 38 yard line I'd say they've got to get down to the 36 and it's a quarterback sneak and they make said you know it breaks it down down and Gary it crosses the 35 done about the 34 yard line so the quarterback keeper there by Nick berry like and berries coming out it

027those defense is good in the open field I have big yeah open if you're tackling it's good yeah I've got a good solid hold on and bring him down one-on-one so Beverly's got two men out wide right they got Clark Marchand moving to the right he stops behind the center and it looks like it's gonna be a quick pass and it's it's too oh that was a very quick hitting head nobody even covered him but his people passed the defendant beautiful play that was inside and he was open to it touchdown pass with Beverly draws first blood with nine minutes and 37 seconds left in the first half he's Beverly six and Summerville zero and usually Jake McGinnis is the kicker number 41 for the extra point and there they gonna yeah there he is

030yeah Islanders will take over first and ten on their own 20-yard line and the kick return they did the right thing letting that one go because that was spinning crazily yeah and any attempt to feel that I I'm sure he knew it too was going to potentially be a disaster so I check around 20 what's wrong with that we'll take over on their own 27 nothing wrong so the quarterback is Elijah Jeffries for his he's got a full house back he's in the shotgun the two men wide to the right and oh it says counting to fumbled the ball in number gives it to the number 11 and he kind of dances and tiptoes out to about the 22 23 yard line he had a pretty big hole there it looked like to go through

031but he just kind of tiptoed through it instead of just blasting to it but he had a fairy so the quarterback Elijah Jeffries looks to a side line there as look into this coach you know more and more you see blob where the coaches are calling a place from the sideline and the number of in motion and it's give to East he's taken down yeah who is that somebody broke through there number 12 that was Clayton the course of a game page 84 the other force loss of about level 5 so it's gonna be third down and a unique line and there was a penalty against Summerville which pebbly of course the class of seven yards on the tackle by Nick Gonzales I'm sorry that I the PA announcer says that the attack was made

032by Nicholas I missed it I saw Clayton MacAlpine down there so it's a third and 15 for for Somerville and the logic Jefferies has number 11 Fred Caston back there with and he's got two men three men out wide to the right side of the field yeah they gotta have to throw up here after that ouch and he throws it very quickly to the right side and he's got a lot of Running Room and he makes the first down well what a nice play that was quick pretty fair the short side of the field and and that yeah that was every third and 15 and they converted it was a very nicely designed play he got very fast yeah don't try the sweet but just heat the ball to like Kevin Fox used to do

033for the Patriots he him just give him some Running Room and they can make good things happen all right so so Somerville converts a third and long and I have a first and tenth at their own 32 yard line they've got two men out wide to the right that white side of the field and it's a quarterback keeper and he's got so that's a loss of about seven yards there he was maybe about the 27 so he had Bobby Adams facing them back they're putting a lot of pressure that was the first time they tried a quarterback keeper and it did not work darted off because I got a seven-yard loss on that play six yard loss on that place so it will be awesome so it's second and 15 from the 27 yard line

034of Somerville he's been winning the battle in the trenches too wouldn't you say yes so again they come up with two wide men to the right to widen in to the left and made a hole right here leaving with a long long it is wide open oh my good all and he's gonna score on this tomb in there and it's a long it's a 75-yard 73-yard touchdown pass and the receiver came down with the ball and it's awful friend the receiver and the couldn't get the ball down ended up right in the receivers hands so with seven minutes and 14 seconds left in the half Somerville comes roaring back into this game with a 73-yard touchdown pass and Somerville and it's a good extra point so that could score with seven minutes and 14 seconds

035and a half is Beverly 79 these summer those seven some of those kickers got a good look yeah which is poor defense on the part of Beverly that 2mins surrounding them David just boxed in and they kind of bumped into each other yeah landed up on the ground and and then receive it came along to buy it no nothing but well it nice in front of them come on if you guys there's a defensive players you're gonna call for the ball you'd better be pretty sure here at least when I hit it because that's if you're just waving at it that's this is the kind of thing that can happen although that that never should have gone for that distance but once it landed and I receive his hands he had nobody between them on

040the second man and Heath whoa Merrill's Raffi just waiting created to the first time sure well he just pulled away from him and gained another six yards or so that was a lot of that was traffic yeah I agree that was eight yards of effort there's a penalty and it looks like it's against some of the remember that the fish show it looks like a bit major penalty Yahoo follows be a personal foul than 15 yards face mask or something yeah it could have been something like that so takes it down to the ROG 26 Summerville so Beverly comes out at six minutes 38 seconds left in the first half the clock running so Beverly has a golden opportunity here to put another score on the board well let's drive they've came 25 yards on

041penalties so but Marshawn in motion stops behind the quarterback and it's a pass berry back and he swings it over to Clayton MacAlpine looking for waiting room he's able to break oh he had a nice block from number 53 hanging path he's completing the gap on I'm sorry 63 sorry audience 67 there's a nice block by Billy Shaw we might claim MacAlpine game another six to eight yards so Beverly's moving the ball very well they've got the ball on the 14 yard line of Somerville and they're moving the ball well this is the time to punch the ball around absolutely right now Barry and he gives it to a mere else Raffy and he's pulled down by one of the rocky interior lineman again they just leave that guy alone and that was a nice

042nicely designed play he had a lot of room in front of him go number 78 I think he's the center and I was able to break through the line so that was a loss of about four who's number two three yeah he came off limping in a row after you ran that bowl that time force on the ground oh he came up limping and he's what's happening a little bit of comparison so he's on the ground about this an injury this is an injury yeah no that's not these actually off the field right now but he is down on the ground the trainers are looking at him hope it's just a minor I hope it's you know muscle always hope for a cramp or something like no that will go away in a few minutes

043but - nothing more serious you hope let's just hope that this that lost their doesn't put a crimp in his drive but they did the linebackers in the defensive secondary of of Somerville are very quick they're very quick to react to the ball come up from their linebacker positions and make those tackles in the that time have to be alignment but before when they tried those sweeps Beverly tried those sweeps it was those linebackers coming up very quick and making nice sure tackles but Beverly comes out and they've got number five Carson so when you give give him the ball and he cuts to the inside and he's smothered maybe lottery boring our game as Pat Parsons number five on the catechol Somerville so maybe maybe the two yard gains was third and about 12

044for Beverly yeah so most offensive I think it's rather impressively they're that good on the pursuit and as you said they always seem to have somebody break through the line almost uncontested and their defenses as so far as impress me really McGary britain's the team out and it's a pass all the way and these looks like he's going to be tackled for a loss here's a sacks will be a fourth down fourth down and about 20 for Beverly so that Beverly was not able to follow Oh saved by a facemask penalty against Summerville some villain that's Somerville the coach must be they they stopped Beverly and these are different ways to jump from right now because that's a second baseman le on this drive we're being told by I think that was lame in our

066it's it's been a very evenly play game Somerville has made some penalties and one Beverly Drive they had to face matched penalties which really er when they think that that's 30 yards but they did have a sustained long drive at the end of the first half that that actually they they scored the winning that he scored the touchdown Wow as time ran out in the half and Everly was able to move the ball well 3 5 6 9 graduation so the the Somerville team is back on the pot was 400 back on the field were waiting for the Beverly Panthers to make their way back bonds as it feels [Music] I think the key to the second half is going to be us try not to make any mistakes very evenly played game both teams

067have come up with good defense when they needed to we talked about the last touchdown that that summer will made that Beverly gate gave that up very very grudgingly and here come the Beverly Panthers back on the field and they will be kicking off since they received the opening half kickoff so they'll be kicking off to Somerville to start the second half [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so as we said Beverly up comes in to this game with a record of one and one win three losses they had a big big win over Malden 53 to 13 and last week they had a devastating defeat at the hands of Marblehead 32 six no I'm sorry 34 nothing they were almost you had three first downs during the whole game which they gave and they gained on the

068very first possession very first series of downs and weren't able to do anything after that the Marblehead defense to smother down so Somerville comes out onto the field and Beverly will be kicking off they have number number two back who is a Giovanni Pierre who I'm really impressed with this young man's played very well on defense and has played very well on offense and back with him is number six Lucas songs all as the French would say st. Jean song Shawn Lucas song hall and jackleg anus is getting ready to kick off for Beverly and he hits the ball oh it's a bad bad bad kickoff it's taken on the 30-yard line it looks like he's breaking free it's just one man to beat any oh boy oh boy and he brings it back to

069the 30 yard line never lay that that is for that's the results of a very very poor kickoff oh my and Duncan Moreland finally brought to number 23 brought the Somerville man down and he was absolutely the last line of defense you know it was a touchdown for someone oh boy oh boy oh boy as we said you know it's gonna be maybe the brakes you know yeah and that in that case there Beverly instead of having pushing the the opponents back to the 20-yard line starting there they've got the ball first and ten on the Beverly 30-yard line it's like I almost the gift touchdown here so we'll see I can't touch that little defensive the aggressiveness they give to number 11 who's been a workhorse back for her song ethanol me Harry Stamper

070Fred Caston it's done a lot of work for them he is he scored that touchdown the bevor that Beverly still had in this game 15 to 14 10 minutes and 27 seconds left in the third quarter second nine for Somerville in the Beverly 29 yard line and number 19 and then they give it to number 11 again and he's able to he's got those nimble feet he makes those yeah those little quick little dancing moves and he's able to tiptoe his way by clayton McAlpine it's a third and about six now for Somerville at the Beverly 25-yard line 26 yard line and they've got to get down to about the 20 yard line yeah this is fourth down territory to oh yeah yeah yeah of course mm still make it yeah so number 14 the

071logic Jefferies spin it in the quarterback we've been impressed with this young man is this ability to throw the ball and to give again to number 11 and he fights his way picks his way through for maybe about two or three yards there will be a fourth in about four fourth and about three they get down to the mine doesn't look that big he's determined and it just keeps intelligible is very effectively walking for fourth and four for Somerville let's see if Neverland can hold them here quick pass out here and it looks like Somerville's taking a timeout they didn't coach call the timeout didn't quite Summerville liked what he saw there I didn't know what they were for from the 24 so let's see if Beverley could come up with a defensive stop here

074the third quarter the clock game to 14 in a very close game here against Summerville at herd stadium and it Barry looks over his line and it's a pitch back to clock Marshawn he's getting up a head of steam and he's fighting and he gains about longer yards on the carry commodity which is cool yeah it's very close see what they do here they say third in about a half a yard they had to get to it like that no they give him a first down yeah yeah what I liked ethnic Perry that time he pitched it back to Clark Marshawn and he got right into the block instead of just pitching it back and just City standing there right I like that I like that kind of stuff I didn't follow the quarter back
