Next item up. We have a lot to celebrate tonight, so I'm going to open it up to the board. I'll give a start out with the Oring Middle School who celebrated the opening of its student store. Um it is a fun and positive reinforcement initiative designed to motivate students throughout the week. Falcons earn gotcha tickets and they can redeem them on Fridays for candy and prizes. Thank you to the students and staff who help

make the Falcon Store Fridays such a success. Um, in November, the admissions team from Central Washington goes, "Oh, and my screen goes blank." I just Oh, uh, where to support seniors through the college application process. During the onampus admission event, students can meet with adviserss, have their application fee waved. Woohoo. and even receive on the spot acceptance. We're excited to share that 24 Cardinals were accepted to CW that day. Congratulations to our future Wildcats. And I know you were one of them. >> Both. >> Oh, both. Oh, >> go Wildats. >> Oh, that's right. Yes. Oh, now it's back. >> No, it's magic. >> They did, don't they? >> Very good. >> Uh, I wanted to say um to the Ordin High School presented its coral coral winter concert bringing festival music and holiday cheer

to the community. A big shout out to our talented students, performers, and wonderful staff who worked behind the scenes to make this tradition such a special event. Also want to say to the band um they had a concert >> and uh that was phenomenal too and jazz band and it was great. >> Very cool. >> We have some talented musicians. Yes, we do. A good good program. Love that. We also have Tarmigan Ridge that um wrapped up its annual food drive with an impressive 4,088 items donated to the Oring Food Bank. Special recognition goes to Miss Stewart's class who did 492 items, Miss Leiddki's class of 415, and Mrs. Hecox's class of 334 items for leading the way. Way to go, Mountaineers. Your generosity makes a real difference. And I'm sure this past week um

those items have have made a great positive impact. >> Yeah, for sure. >> 4,000 items. >> That's crazy. >> Great. >> That's awesome. >> That's a lot. >> Yeah. >> Wonderful. All right. We have some other cool things to celebrate. I'd like to begin by inviting Abby >> up to the podium. Come on up, ABBY. >> You're good. >> I get to say nice things about you. So Abby is Oring School District's daffodil princess and we are pleased to recognize her in her work. She has lived in Oring her entire life and is proud to call this community home. A senior at Oring High School, she's involved in volleyball, track, and ASB and is known for her welcoming spirit and her commitment to including others. Outside of school, Abby plays for the Rainineer Volleyball Club

and also helps coach younger players. After graduation, she plans to pursue flight school. Awesome. With the goal of becoming a commercial pilot, Abby takes great pride in her commitment to her school, her community, and the teams she's a part of. We are proud to have Abby representing Oring, and knows she will do so with grace and pride. Abby, you are you are now you've been selected to be in a position to influence those kids coming up through our system. Tell me some of your hopes and your vision for them. >> Uh I'm really really grateful for this opportunity. It was kind of a dream come true. Like I always watched the princesses when I was younger and looked at them and fawned cuz wow they're princesses. But now getting involved with that, I didn't realize

how much actually goes into it. We do so much community service and we get to go do a lot of outreach stuff. So like for the children who are coming up, like we go to libraries and do that. We go to the hospital and talk to sick kids. We go all over the place wherever they want us. And I'm just really excited to be able to like show the spirit of boarding and like how we do things through that when I get to go interact with everyone. >> Very cool. Such a cool opportunity board. And Aby's already said that she will read at read across ordering this year since Ala. I asked her that right away. And I'm proud to say I've known Abby since you were four. >> I think so. >> Wow. Very

cool. Very cool. What would you like us to know about your role or your work or what inspires you here in Oregon? Uh I would like you to know that like uh what really inspires me is everyone here. I have been so lucky to grow up here with so many people supporting me. Uh Coach Fry, all the years of volleyball, all my teachers, everyone I've interacted with has always just like I've never had an like a person in this community that's pushed me backwards. They've always been nudging me forwards. And I just love that. I've never been like I've always been one who I get that extra push and I just get to go out and do all these amazing things which is so so cool. >> I love that. I love that. >> I

I'm kind of curious cuz right now right you're talking to us answering questions. Um is it getting easier for you to be able to interact and >> stand in front of people and talk? Right. Cuz that's big. >> Oh yeah. No, I was so incredibly nervous tonight of selection. Like I I I was like shaking out in the hallway waiting for my turn cuz I was like fifth or something out of seven and I was just waiting. But I actually am really thankful for this opportunity cuz I've always wanted to be better at public speaking and be able to do this and talk to people of all different. And that's one of the things they've talked about like we have practices every Saturday for this. So, one of the things they go over is public

speaking and how you're going to interact with a business leader versus a 5-year-old girl, like showing you how to interact with all the members of Pierce County and all that, which is really, really exciting. >> Doing a great job. >> And Aby's my best friend. Aby's really cool. She's good, >> guys. I love her. She's great. I used to have seen her right before her debate that we had in Polyai. And this is when I was like, dang, that daffodil stuff. They don't know what's coming because because she was prepping for her debate like crazy. You should have seen it. It was the most magical thing I've ever seen in my entire life. She was going on and on and she was so passionate and so she was so well spoken. She's like the most

hardworking woman I've ever met in my entire life. And I'm so happy that she had this position in this >> and and you too can buy a daffodil pen to help support her. >> Very good. That's awesome. >> Well, Abby, thank you so much for representing Oring and and carrying our spirit and your own spirit into our community. >> Thank you guys for having me here. >> Thank you. Thank you for fitting us into our very busy schedule. >> The board would love to capture a picture with you and they have a gift for you. So, would you head this way? And board, would you mind heading that way so we can grab a photo? >> One of a few opportunities tonight. Early Christmas. >> All right, squeeze in their board. Here we go. >>

Ready? Great. Perfect. One, two, three. You guys, >> let's give Abby a hand. All right, Brandy. There you are. Hello. So, I've invited Brandy Gresco up to the podium. Brandy has been nominated as a Playworks PNW Pacific Northwest Recess Rockstar of the Month. >> Wow. >> So cool. Uh Playworks is a comprehensive recess system that supports all students being actively involved in activities at each recess. Uh they help train our monitor staff in facilitating new games and cultivating student leaders during recess time. Throughout the year, PlayWorks program staff work and collaborate with thousands of school staff from all over the Pacific Northwest, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. Each month, they nominate a school staff member that stands out for going above and beyond, owning their recess, taking initiative, and being a champion of play and

playworks. So, Brandy, congratulations. Literally thousands across the Northwest. >> Thank you. That's very cool. Thank you. AWESOME. >> LIKE, can you maybe just share the board? I'll I'll ask for you. Like, what's Playworks brought this year that didn't exist on the playground? And what have you seen happen that helped kind of elevate what that you're doing and what's happening for kids next door? >> Yeah. Um it's a program where we have um this guy, his name is Case Casey, comes in and um shows the kids new different games to play to get all the kids from kindergarten to fifth grade interacting instead of just like being bored. Um and so it's going really well. The kids all all the kids are getting um interacting in all the different games that he's teaching the kids. Um

and then we also have junior coaches that are fifth graders that um get to put on a vest and help teach the games to the other kids and stuff. So yeah, it's going really well. >> So we'll probably hear about that board this spring at our work session. That's been a passionate interest to not only decrease discipline but increase productive engagement, productive play and that's your goal with agency kids teaching other kids of how to do that healthy and safe. >> Great thing. So thank you for sharing just a little bit because that's new this year for the system. Yeah. And I really It's It's really going good. Yeah. >> And the kids are having a lot of fun with it. >> Probably a lot of challenges keeping them out of that mud puddle. >>

Yes. Today was we have clothes on almost every game and just having undercover and stuff. But yeah, they're getting used to it playing undercover and but like I said, there's great games, new games that you know, we would never have thought of to where they're playing and they're really liking it. So, >> did I understand you correctly? So, you've got like first through fifth. So you're blending age groups as well as class groups. >> Yeah. >> So like we have like kindergarten and third together. Um first and second we have fourth by themselves and then fifth by themselves which is it's working out really well. >> Very cool. >> Yeah. >> Would you mind meeting over here for you or you want to grab the photo? Nice job. That was her young heart. >> Good

job, you guys. >> Thank you. CONGRATULATIONS. I'M NOT PLAYING DIRT. >> You have to make up your own games. >> Find the shoe in the >> Coach Fry, would you join us at the podium? Yes. She has a pleasure. >> And your students, ladies, would you come up here as well? >> All right. Uh we are excited to welcome you up here with your students. Uh we're proud to recognize Oring High School volleyball coach Gary Garyenne. Garyian. >> Garyenne, thank you for your outstanding leadership, resilience, and unwavering dedication throughout the 2025 season. Coach Fry has led the OS volleyball team to an exciting postseason run, earning a spot at the state tournament, and bringing so much pride to our district. Your impact goes far beyond the co the court. You model strength, compassion, and excellence

for every athlete you coach. Most recently, Coach Fry was named SPSL Coach of the Year. A welldeserved honor that reflects both your coaching talent and your remarkable spirit. So, I'd like start with your kids. I'd like to ask students, athletes, how coach Fry has inspired you. You go first. Okay. Volunteer, I guess. Um, Fry has been there for me since 8th grade. That's when I started volleyball. And I never imagined that I would get this involved, but through her being there as a coach, I got involved with club. I played year round for the last five years of my life. And it has been such an amazing experience. I literally look forward to high school season the entire year. Like I'm just waiting for it to come back around. And honestly, now that I'm a

senior, it's very sad to know that I won't get to come back and be part of that program again. And the work she puts in to make sure that this program is what it is. And it's genuinely the best program I've seen of sports in our school. Like the culture we developed and all the work we do in the offseason. We did this leadership book. We got a group together and we all worked through it to make sure that we would bring the best culture to the girls following years. She does a lot of things to make sure younger girls get involved and there's no like hierarchy where it's like, "Oh, I have seniority when you get to be an upper classman or you're on varsity." No, we're all part of the program. We're all

the same family. And she's just done such amazing thing. This program is 100% her doing. And I'm so proud of her for doing that the last how many years? >> How many years? How many years? >> 13. >> Yeah, it's been a long time >> for volleyball. >> Yes. But you coached with Kilby. >> I DID COACH WITH KILBY. I ALSO coached with Paulie. >> I I assume that that's different than Kelby. >> It is different. >> It was different. Yes, much different. >> Oh, my turn. Um I've been so blessed to know Fry since I was like very young. Um, obviously I grew up in the school and um like with my parents and everything. So I've known Fry for as long as I can remember. And she is a prime like role model

like the to a tea a role model and like the best one in my life and I just look up to her all the time because she's like so strong but she's so competitive too which is something that I love to look up to and she's a great coach overall. like somebody that can push you to be your best, but like also wants you to be your best character, not just your best athlete on the court. And like playing for her has like developed myself like on and off the court. And I just have become such like a better person and like a better friend and a better teammate just because like watching what she does. And so >> yeah, Lord. So, I'm gonna um fudge. You coached my baby girl. So, you coached my

baby girl. Um she was not one of your starting volleyball players, but you drove her to be the best at that that she could be, and she loved volleyball. I know that there's a group of young mothers, some of them out there now that um would come here and just wrap their arms around you and tell you all the wonderful things that you brought to their life. But you are the embodiment of grit and determination and motivating people. young women that you have motivated have grown in and will become wonderful women and wonderful leaders themselves because of what you have brought to them. Watching you sit on the floor and telling volleyball players that it's not how much floor time you get, it's what you bring to your team. Um, and then to see you

model that in your life and on the court with those kids, with the girls, um, with anybody who crosses your path, um, as parents as well. >> You made me a better parent in the stands by watching you on the court. Um, and for for my daughter Allison, you were on the court in two places. Um, her first love and volleyball quickly followed her first love. and you were so important in both of those roles for her. I can't thank you enough for being part of her life. And the girls that have you by their side right now, they will sit here one day, 10 years from now, 13 years from now and say, "I remember when." And they will be able to say the same thing. Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you for

coaching the girls for so long and all the different sports. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Thank you. um dedication that you put in and and you put your heart and soul into um these young women that are growing up and um that's awesome to see and >> thank you. >> I would say what a program but more so what an impact >> and I would ask you what are your thoughts? How do you feel about the girls? How do you feel about the team? And what does already mean to you? Quity means everything to me, you know. I'm an alumni, >> you know. So, um I just always felt led to be here and I've never felt like I needed to leave here. And I've always felt that um my job was to leave an

impact and uh um lead these girls in in the right ways to leave strong, confident young women who know not to back down, know to fight, and that whatever they want is theirs if they desire it. And um uh this this season of my life has been rough to say the least. Um and uh but what I feel for and what I've felt for a very long time has been given back to me intfold. this uh this season of my life when I really needed Ordin to be there for me um and to be the reason I get out of bed, to be the reason to fight for one more day. Um you guys have been there for me and um I just thank you for that. >> Well, thank you. >> We thank you.

>> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> All right. I know it's a heart. Thank you. >> Yeah. Okay, thank you. >> Snag a photo. >> All right, photo time. Let's go. We got a gift for you, too. All right, squeeze in. >> Act like you like each other. >> Okay, perfect. You guys ready? One, two, three. >> Can I grab one for her? January background. grabs me. Holy moly. >> Always does. >> Yeah. >> Really? Okay. >> I love it. Each night I was mentioning each night we're so excited to share the good in our community and in our district. And I prepare and each time just grabs me in my heart. So, thank you to all of you. Uh, it's customary, as exciting as it is to hang with the board on Thursday night, it

is customary that if you would like to go watch the Hawks, uh, you're welcome to do so or you can hang out >> and and follow along as we get through this order of business that you'll have to trust us cuz there's no screen. or look over here and squint. >> But if you do decide to leave, thank you so much for joining us tonight. >> Merry Christmas every Merry Christmas. >> There was one We should print them for the rest of the >> very good. >> I have too, right? Yeah. Uh-uh. Gosh, look my eyes. Yeah, I got some water. >> Yeah, there's there's allergic nuts over there at the end of the table. >> Carly's nuts. >> Her cookies. >> Cookies. >> I'm not wearing my glasses. That's the problem. >> He looks

for all kinds of >> micro cookies. All right. Next item on the agenda is community and staff comments. Staff, any comments? >> All good. Community person, any comments? >> Are we good? Did anybody sign up? >> Nobody signed up. >> Thank you. >> Because they all >> All right. So now this beautifully designed superintendent report. I uh appreciate it. You have a copy to follow along. We're going to modify some of the things that I'll say based on what the community has access to. Thinking about next month, I wanted you to have a little bit of a sound bite of what your January regular board meeting looks like. You will have a contract consideration for architect work. That's with NAC. We've previously done a request for qualifications and selected uh NAC as our architect to

help with construction. You'll also get a report from Matt Rumba with regard to construction timelines and such. Just so you know what to expect and what we're thinking after bond approval that looks like. You'll also receive a contract for your consideration of approval from owner's representative work. That's Liz Loy with Alliance Construction.
