I've se been seeing this name a lot. 39 years she worked with us as a paraprofessional. She beats Deanna like up there. I think she Yeah. So, we think she was the longest um employee in the district at the time. And then Mr. Larry Wax, our bus driver, he had 10 years with us. So, now

first I'd like to come up um Mrs. Thalen Kerry. Yay. Let's see how 13. How many total teaching? >> I say 27, but record says 26. >> Okay, she says 27, but the records say 26. I don't think we're going to argue. That's a long time. Go ahead and shake hands. Next we have Mr. Rick Flet. Rick has been with us for six years. I'm going to have him tell us how long in education because I don't even want to guess. How many? How many? 34. See, so there's something about longevity. Okay, next we have Linda Sonic. >> Did I pronounce it right? Did I do good? >> Perfect. Congrats. >> 31 years. Is it all here? >> Um, it's actually 32. >> 32 >> because my first year was a temporary contract. >> Oh,

okay. See, there's always a little story. Congratulations. You're welcome. >> Next, Kyla Zar Smith. Okay, I have on my list uh 30. Is that right? >> All of it here. >> Yep. >> Oh, congratulations. There you go. There you go. Thank you. I can't think of all the things that in my short time that I've seen that she's had her hands in. And Mr. Dean Smith, 34 years, all improer. >> All at Powzle. Okay. >> Well, and all of the things done for us. Oh my goodness. There you go. Thank you. >> Let's give them all one more round of applause. All right, let's come on. Bring the retirees in front here. Kind of in front. We'll do a two row thing. We'll do a two row thing. Oh, you're all right. Come over this

way. Every other one. There we go. You see everybody's face? >> I can see. Great. >> Thank you everyone. We really, really appreciate your many years of service. And there goes our audience. All right. A lot of years of service uh from our retirees this year. So, we appreciate you know all their hard work that they put in the dedication to our students and our school. So, wish them best on the uh you know what they're going to do at retirement. They're going to have a lot of free some free time I should say. Maybe not a lot but some. Right. Our All right. Next up is student reports, Olivia. >> Well, first and yes, we're really excited for summer. Um, besides that, I'd want to shout out our yearbook team. They made a really

nice yearbook this year. Um, it was Netflix themed and I thought it was really cool. And then volleyball is also hosting a camp for grades 1 through eight on July 8th. So, that's exciting. >> Thank you, Olivia Ezrey. Um, so our leadership and ASB, I guess, programs are holding a meeting tomorrow after school just to hammer out some themes and different things for the upcoming school year. Um, the basketball program is hosting a Mustang hoop camp June 15th through 16th for the boys and girls, um, kindergarten through 8th grade. And then lastly, we're just talking about freshman camp and orientation, getting the ball rolling for that sort of stuff. >> It'll be right around the corner, too. um upcoming junior class is preparing to start thinking about some fundraising ideas to raise money for various

things the class will need to do and the school is looking for a variety of different coaching positions including a cross country head coach and the ASB had the passing of the gavl so like the new officers took their spots on the council Great. Thank you. Any questions for student rep? Appreciate it. Thank you. Uh, next up, we only have one action item tonight. It's vouchers and payroll. Any questions on that? I just I noticed there was quite a bit on um maintenance and repairs for for um the buses and different Is this the time of year we do that? Is that >> Yes. Okay. >> Yep. Yeah, that makes sense. Then it just Yeah, it was a little more than normal. >> Yeah. >> Any other questions? >> Well, I move to approve vouchers

and payroll. >> I'd second it. >> It's been moved and seconded to approve vouchers and payroll students. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Motion. Uh, next up is consent items A, B, and C. >> Make a motion to approve consent item. >> It's been moved and seconded to approve consent items A, B, and C. Students, all those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Motion carries. This might be the fastest meeting I've ever had. Um, I see Kevin's not here. I don't know if he's online or >> Dan. I can't remember exactly where he's at. >> Um, his son was nominated for one of the like YVIA like Yakama Herald awards. So, he's at that event with Blake. >> Can't remember the name of the award. >> I don't

even know if that's right, but it's the Yakma Herald like athlete and teams of the year award thing they do. >> Well, we'll skip Kevin. We'll catch him next time and we're going to go with the dire our director of finance and operations for the first time. >> Yeah. >> So, I want to welcome Sean to the board table, right? Um she officially started her position on June 1. Um I want to make note to the community or anybody who's listening after the facts, her title is director of finance and operations. um she will be still with support overseeing it and then um learning her way through the business and finance and operations and she's going to tell you a little bit about that tonight. >> Just a little bit. Uh for starters, thank you

very much for letting me sit here at the table with you guys. I I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to many years of uh reporting on our district's financial and operational progress. Uh moving forward, the last 10 days, uh I feel, and I've said this a lot, like I'm drinking through a fire hose. I feel like the next year is probably going to be just like that. Uh but it's it's interesting and really enjoyable. And Drew has been an amazing teacher. So, uh, I've been spending the last 10 days primarily focused on helping working with Raul and Abigail putting together our the projections for next year's salary for Drew when he presents to the board next Wednesday. He'll have that as part of his presentation. We've been working uh mostly on that. In addition

to working on that, I started my training with the Washington Association of School uh Business Officials. I've been working on aortionment and expanding my knowledge on district budgeting practices. So learning is the is my buzzword right now. I guess that's what I'm doing. >> Explain. They're called badges. Is that right? Or buttons or >> they're called badges. Uh each I'm going to call it a course. Each course typically has eight badges associated with it or eight one to threehour learning sessions and then you take a test at the end. So, I'm like three into budget and four into a portionment or something like that. So, I'll be doing that over the course of the next year. There's I don't know 10 or 12 different courses with badges in between those. I'll keep you posted on

how I'm doing. Get me a like uh >> like get a banner. So, I have a question on the uh I learned a little bit about the badges and those classes from is it WBO? >> Yes. >> Um once you complete a badge, can you go back and redo the course if you need it at a future date or do they lock you out? >> No, you can't retake the test once you pass the test. It's done. It's a oneand done, but you can go back and watch the video, download the PowerPoint, uh look at the resources within each course for over the next year. I bought the whole thing for the year. Gotcha. Thank you. Any questions for Sean? Thank you, Sean. Janna, >> I will be quick as well. I just want to

again recognize our retirees. I was able to attend some retirement events. The these people put, you know, 20 to 40 years into a career and um and it's not an easy career. So, I just want to say thank you to them. Um, I really enjoyed the gradu graduation events, particularly scholarship night was excellent. It's amazing. our generous community as well as um you know the people that commit their time to doing all of this work and then the rewards that our students receive that help them attend um college and it's expensive and so I just it's just amazing and um it yeah so that's always really cool and graduation was really nice kind of stayed under the under it in its time frame so to speak um and worked out really well um and And

then we did just have our final meeting with our program review. Sometimes people call it CPR. It's called a comprehensive program review. Um they Kevin and I today um they actually were supposed to meet with us, but there was something that came up. They're like, "You guys are fine. You did an excellent job. There's like three things we still have to submit to them." Um they it's all around civil rights and then want wanting more and more and more information from one particular reviewer. Um but it we have a handle on that. That's not a problem. And um they were very complimentary both when we first started meeting with them to the end um on how things went. Thanks to Kevin and Lisa and Jalisa and Abigail, everybody that helped to put that together. Thank

you. >> See any questions for Deanna? >> Kim. >> So um brevity is seems to be the message of the night. So I'll see if I can follow along with that. Um, couple things. I heard something that I want to make for the record very clear. Someone said to me, "Well, people don't know that the financial situation is what it is." And I'm kind of like, "How can you not know?" I've been talking about it kind of till I'm blue in the face. Um, we don't put it out like on a social media. Here's what the number is, but it's been in every meeting, every discussion, every minute. So, I want to make sure I say it once again. The district is going to I hate I I can't put a percentage on it, but

we will be in binding conditions by um the end of the 2526 fiscal year. I don't want anybody to say I had no idea. I didn't know about it. I you know what I mean? I just don't know. However, with that being said, we have I mean it's not good, but we have a little bit of good news. We've been able to move some program though. Think about pots. We always talk about pots of money. So, we've been able to expense some more um things that were in basic ed over to a grant. And we also found out that, and we can't do it all, so please don't think I mean all, but we found out that like some of our utility bills can go to some of title and some different things. So, we're

going to expend down as far as we can. That's not going to make us in the black, everybody. That will not put us in the black, but it will um lessen the impact. The other thing is is if you really want to understand Drew, Sean, myself, the team, all everybody in the team, Abigail, everybody has been working very hard for the expense presentation next Wednesday, the 17th. I really challenge you to try and sit and listen and understand and feel comfortable in asking questions. Um we're going to go to a depth that we may not have ever gone to before showing you um different data from across the state and different things like that. So I just challenge everybody um we've sold our surplus buses. No, we did not have landslide in income, but they're

not going to be sitting and deteriorating further and so forth. Um, we have one more public records request. If you are interested in learning about this, you really should look at the legislation um around public records requests. It used to be you had a public and I'm going to even say as little as three or four, five years ago at the most, you very seldom had a public records request. It normally had to do with a potentially maybe a legal case or a um yeah, something legal. We get approximately one to five public records requests a week from I hate to use the word random but random names and email addresses and they're three to five sentences long and it very says very clearly says public and we have no way to work around there

is no legal piece and so the Washington state legislation legislators are working to come up with some language about or schools example you have to be a taxpayer in the district or you have you know you have to have legal means for the reasons what you're asking um and so like a particular public record request um I'm going to look at Sean and I'm not put on the spot but like 80,000 emails right 80,000 emails that have to be read redacted for fura we're going to pay pay thousands thousands and thousands of dollars to finish that public records request and you can't pass those fees on. So, I just want everybody to really understand that. Um, if you drive by Hel Middle School kind of over at the end of the track area, we're going

our one of our projects this summer is to clean up that end of the track where the brush and things are. We have a chipper now. So, we're going to chip some of that up, use some of it, get that so we can get that cleaned up this summer. We're going to do a surplus sale. It's very small. There's not a lot, but we don't we don't need to store things that could be what is that saying? One person's trash is another person's treasure where somebody could use the things that we've got. Leadership, our union um relations are still going strong. Um we're planning 26 27. We've already started the first four days of school. I mean, we're we're on to those things. Tomorrow's the last day. We said I have to compliment Ryan and

his team on the graduation. Um I hear I watch you know, on social media like everybody else. I'm watching Tik Tok or I'm watching Instagram or whatever it might be. And some graduations are two hours and 37 minutes. Some of them um had arrest made in the middle of the graduation. Somebody put, you know, ran through or did whatever, right? We have a very welldone, respectful, quick, professional done. And our families and our community really need to be commended for that. Like Deanna, I'm going to comment on scholarship night. I don't know that our community gets enough kudos, I guess is the word, or thanks for the amount of dollars that were given. I don't know if you're aware of this. It was a little over $2.2 million that went to the class of 2026.

And that's 200 students. Um, I don't know that obviously there's somebody that gets more, don't get me wrong, but I don't know that for our size districts you're going to see very much like that and especially when we know that approximately 1.2 of that was straight local dollars. That's local M, not a scholarship that's four year or renewable for four years to University X, right? That's money that came right out of our community and our community has to be super proud of that. Um, I don't know if you've also been following social media and or a bird packet. Uh, Mrs. Jesse Wilson has taken a job in the Kenowick School District. Everybody wants to know. She puts in her social media post, it was my I've been in Foster since I was in the fourth

grade. So, this is a big step for her. Not one that was made easy. Um, but she's less than a half a mile from her home and um, she's doing what what she has to do for her family. And so we met with the K KRV staff today and they're getting involved in giving us their thoughts on their next principle. And I'm going to go on a mini vacation over the June 19th to the 23rd. I'll have someone in here um taking my anything that may happen. Kim, any questions for Kim? >> Thank you much. Uh moving on to board reports. Michelle, >> hi. Um, yeah, just I don't have very much, but um, I did think graduation went really well as well, and I wanted to congratulate once again all of the graduates in

the class of 2026. But in addition, all the staff uh, in our school district, it really does take all of you to get these kids across the finish line, and I hope that everybody's patting themselves on the back for that achievement as well. Um, and finally, just have a really great summer. Um, hope everyone has a safe time and a fun time. >> Thank you, Michelle. Brian, >> yeah, I'll just echo that, too. Hope you guys have a great last day of school, uh, great summer, and just thank you to admin, staff, and students for for another year. Um, and then just wishing all of our retirees, uh, all the best. Um, Mrs. Childers had our oldest son and, uh, just a great great teacher for him. Uh, Jesse Wilson had our middle son and

truly was was his his favorite teacher. And that was about the time she was starting down the admin admin road. So, she was kind of in and out, which was kind of frustrating as a parent. But, um, man, th those two made a huge impact on our family. And, uh, Larry Wax, um, probably the the kids' favorite bus driver to, uh, especially for sporting events. I know. Um, just a great guy. uh was loved kids, loved being around sports, loved being on the sideline. Um so um Linda Sonic uh that that family's obviously been huge out in the Woodran area for for a long long time. Um so just thank you guys. >> Thanks Brian. Frank, >> just a couple things. Um, so our governor Bob Ferguson announced a top legislative priority uh to do

the away for the day, the ban on cell phones. So that looks like it's going to go to, you know, it'll have to be voted on by the legislative get a legislative approval. So we'll see what happens in September. You guys might have to pull the phones aside for the date, but that's coming up. Um, also graduation. I really did enjoy that. It was just really cool to see all the kids celebrating and and um, you know, I just wish the best for for the graduates and and those those retiring um, staff members and that's uh, it's there there was just a lot of really neat stuff to see happening. Um, I really especially enjoyed just being an earshot of Mr. Bailey and listening to the way he engaged with each of the kids and

it was just uh very impressive that you know the relationship that you know that he had with each of those kids. So that that was really neat to see. But it was it was a great day. Frankie, >> I'm really glad you mentioned that about Principal Bley and I think that's something I always tell families. I wish you could hear what he is telling everybody because it's a personal thing and it's nice that we get to hear it. Um it's really wonderful. I've heard a lot of positive feedback about graduation and how nice it was and that's been wonderful. I think all last week scholarship night that 1.2 million local dollars and especially wanted to thank Anakah, Leticia, and Alice um for organizing scholarship night. Um that's that's a hard group of people to organize

all of us local people that want to tell stories about um everybody for about at least 20 minutes this um it's kind of also local history night also. Um, also Anakah, I don't know if people realize how much Anakah helped all the individual different scholarship committees saying, "Can you make me a copy of those resumes or can you do this? Can you collect that? Who is it?" And she really goes above and beyond. So, work with all of our local scholarship group and send this reminders. By the way, you know, you told me you were going to get back to me on Tuesday and it's it's uh Friday, so what's going on? She really does an amazing job of keeping track of everybody that benefit the graduates. She does a wonderful job. Um swim. Okay,

we've got foster kids on swim team that started this week or last week. They had their first meet yesterday. Um elementary kids are doing Frog and Toad the musical that opens tomorrow night. It's tomorrow night and Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon we have our high school kids and an incredible production of Chicago. They're going to be dancing, singing, tapping. If you want to see um if you're interested in like the incredible level of talent in our school district, in our community, that is going to be incredible show. Um Shin Camp has their dance recital next weekend. Um and also I know that I think all the football players I know have coming up by the gold card or what the new modern version of the gold card. I just make sure someone's knocking on your

door, sending you a text message, you know, anything that's coming along, there's some good deals to be had for our group. >> Great. Thank you, Alisa. Um, I feel bad that I missed I had to miss graduation. It's always a fun event. Um, you know, I had some family graduate, but um I'm glad it went well. Um, I don't have much to report other than, you know, you guys have a great summer. I hope all the kids have a great summer, the teachers, the staff have a great summer because it will come fast. It'll be September or August before we know it. Um, I did get a chance to I volunteered today at the Witstrand playday which uh they stationed me with the with the squirt guns. So, it was a great time. The kids

had a blast. They were soaking wet by the time they got on the bus and a few of them were smart enough to take the cup out of the pool and throw it on us. So I I did not leave unscathed. It was a great time though. Um so with that, there's no other business. Future meetings, we'll have a special board meeting uh June 17th right here at 6 PM and then a regular board meeting June 24th right here at 6 PM. This meeting is adjourned. Thank you.
