001all right please stand i pledge allegiance to the lag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god and beautiful with liberty and justice for all i'd like to ask everyone to remain standing uh for a moment of silence for aydah vargas rosario the mother of banette cologne thank you this is the november 15th meeting of the clinton school committee [Applause] can we start with a motion to approve the bills so moved thank you is there a second second thank you motion having been made and seconded uh any discussion on the bills there being none all those in favor uh unanimous um mrs apantis is not here with us she's representing the board at the uh tribute to harold vanessa tonight is that an option well
002no we couldn't all option out because then we wouldn't have a quorum and um tina was willing to uh to go for us so can we have a motion to approve the minutes from the meeting from november 1st thank you motion having been made and seconded uh all those in favor assuming there wasn't any discussion can i safely assume that okay thank you on to our section of public comment do we have anything from the cta tonight that the cta has nothing i don't know what i'm going to do please please pass along our wishes for the membership for a wonderful thanksgiving anything from pta tonight good evening good evening um we had to postpone our meeting last week and we will be having our pt meeting for this month on thursday at 6 30
003in the cbs library and we will be holding our december january meetings and we are working on our gift card program this year and then having them in the teachers mailboxes by the end of the weekend cbs and cms and copies will be in the office at the high school and if anyone's looking for any elf deliver them to whoever needs to have them okay cpap for cpac we had our second in-person meeting november 2nd it was the smallest meeting that we've had in quite a while i i don't know if you remember in last time i reported we had one of our biggest meetings the month before um and we set up our remaining meeting dates with chocolates to carry us through the year which was sent to christina pearl to be added to
004the school website and then after this meeting i reached out to some of our regulars that didn't come for a meeting that didn't let me know why they were they weren't there and it was um the conclusion was that you're going to add a second cpap meeting that will be only planet support through the winter months and as soon as we figure out a date that works for everyone we will be adding it to the school website i do have a copy of our meetings for the remainder of the year and some of our topics that we're hoping to um be able to address during the year yeah but while we were in the vic of the quarantine time period of the pandemic we met weekly virtually and it was just parent support and there
005was quite a number of parents that came on a regular basis and they came in when it worked for them and left when they had to leave and there was no set time the whole time it was just current support and so i think that for the foreseeable future we're gonna have a second meeting every month and not weekly weekly is a bit much for me personally but um you know i'm not opposed to someone else facilitating it if that if there's a need for it and there's definitely people that have been on the board and in our group for a while that could easily facilitate a meeting if need be but if that if that changes anyway we will definitely let you know and we are also going to zoom through the months of
006december january february also and then hopefully get back march is our basic rights month so that is a good meeting to come back to and you want to do some preliminary stuff to help parents be prepared for some iep meetings or any other meetings any questions for kelly i just would want it i was actually allowed to attend during covet um one of their meetings and it was fabulous oh yeah the support it was just the support but like kelly said they could go get this off the stove and come back to the meeting or go take this kid and come back and it was it was really well done thank you i feel like it's um one of our strengths in our cpac is that we do kind of support really well in our
007honor group and i'm really proud of all of our parents that really just want to support each other wherever we are on our journey yeah yeah thank you so much for all of your good works and and the many ways you help our families it's a pleasure did anything from lpac tonight yep hi hi hi okay so we had our first lpac committee held on october 27th at 6 30. it was um the meeting was held in person in my office at central office there were approximately 15 people who attended the meeting 80 of them still portuguese and about 20 to spanish um it was a mixture of um of students in elementary middle school and high school so it was a good um it was a good spread throughout the district and it was
008nice because some family actually got their students and during the meeting i had the opportunity to introduce not only myself but also talk a little bit of what i do for the district and also explain the elpac committee and what we hope to get out of our meetings parents introduce themselves and talk about how long they've been um in the district and uh where their children stand with english which was nice um we had some success stories from parents from previous years which was nice for new parents to hear because we've had a lot more families come in so that was really nice for them to be able to connect on that level um there were some concerns they had for our ell program and their children but i do meet with mrs braverman on
009a monthly basis to cover areas of need and prioritize um but it was really nice the fact that some of the families brought in the students because some of the students got to connect so i think that's moving forward um we would like to incorporate that somehow because it did help the students um overall it was a very productive meeting and parents are looking forward to our november our meeting is scheduled for november 23rd on the our lp we will be in meeting at ces and we're holding like a sample thanksgiving dinner and to learn to hope to learn more about the meaning of thanksgiving and that event is open to parents and students so hopefully we move along but everybody it was a really good person that's awesome outstanding work thank you and thank
010you to dr maya for developing this position because we are doing really great things and i really appreciate everything we appreciate thank you we do dr meyer all right um so i guess we'll start with our covet updates uh in your packet you do have the the cases for the week we did last week we had a report uh ten positives uh six of those were were from the elementary school um you can see the last you know last couple weeks those numbers seem to be kind of going back up a little bit um hopefully uh we'll be able to start um you know it's it's funny when you look at it and you think there's there were you know one one at the high school this week and none the week before and i
011figured that's the school that probably that most of the students can actually be you know vaccinated and then obviously at the elementary school they couldn't be it we do have a vaccine clinic scheduled for tomorrow at the elementary school running from four to eight um you know we were able just to confirm that over the weekend i sent out the link uh yesterday and as of i just checked and and i know as of last late last night all the appointments were booked and then this morning i reached out to them and they added they added some more and i just checked before the meeting and those seem to be all booked too so uh it does look like we'll have a full a full event i think it's about 120 somewhere that one range
012150 some something like that was the number of appointments they were doing um so we'll uh that it's all run by one of the vendors for the state's mobile vaccine clinic so that'll be tomorrow i did put in i know uh you know uh this quest to mention sort of we talked about the coveted leaves with with the cta so to give you sort of a fact sheet in here on what that is it's the temporary emergency paid sick leave act that the state had actually done last spring um and then it really was kind of didn't really apply to us as much last spring we came in because we were operating under the mou's we had developed with the with the collective uh with the uh uh unions so the uh with the now
013that the those mlus have expired um and once they reauthorized the the act we wanted to go ahead and get that going so we did send out a form so that staff who feel that they have days that qualify for this leave can can complete that and give us the required documentation if they do get that leave we do get reimbursed for that so whatever they get paid during that paid leave we we can fill out the with them filling out the form while the information to apply to the state to get reimbursed from the program for and then the only other thing i want to just add about covet 19 updates is we did get a legal advisory today regarding the osha emergency temporary standing standard uh regarding mandated covenant 19 vaccination or weekly
014testing so um as you probably heard the you know i know that the president came out a while ago and said that they're requiring all private companies over 100 people i think it is to have to do the required vaccination or weekly testing um then that was going to be enforced through osha regulation so then osha came up with their emergency temporary standard and then massachusetts doesn't directly follow osha but our sort of labor oversight group has to follow essentially at least osha standards according to the law so they're anticipating that this will be coming to us uh shortly um i think it should be fairly smooth because we do offer the weekly testing now so all our staff have an opportunity to do that it's not like we're forcing them to do something technically
015the way it's worded if they're a private company and the person opts for testing it's at their own cost and at their own time um but obviously we could they can teachers are allowed to participate in our pool testing for free and we do it right here so uh hopefully it's not that big of a deal but we're waiting a little more the the advisory was from the superintendent's association basically saying that uh it's possible this could go into effect as early as january 4th so we want to probably at least start having the conversations with our stakeholders so that when we do get the final guidance from the state we can try to move quickly so dr do we have any idea what our percentage of staff are vaccinated like like do we even
016know how many people this will actually impact do we have that information or no uh i don't i haven't really asked for it because we really haven't you know really haven't needed to um you know my my sense is like but the only one i have i have kind of a sense of the high school because we did that to check for the 80 percent and and i would say we were well over we were over 90 of our staff were vaccinated so at least self-reported as being vaccinated so um you know i'm hoping that it's uh he said i hope it's just one of those things that we'll figure out what the guidance is and we'll just follow whatever the law says we have to do thank you um the next poll was just
017a update on the miss smasc conference uh we did uh was able to attend that with uh chairman bates and vice chairman varakas um i'd say i put those two bullets there diversity equity inclusion and covid lessons learned and what's ahead and i'd say just that was kind of my two takeaways of the conference i feel like the those are the two themes um you know we went to some uh sessions on you know there were lots of sessions on different things about you know mascots and and you know the names of buildings and and how you handle china changes in your community towards diversity equity and inclusion we also learned a lot about kovid whether it was you know things to consider as far as like what are things you might want to try
018to work with your unions during negotiations to sort of make sure might be in contracts so that next time you know if there is a next time when something happens there's everyone's not scrambling as much um so there's different things like that so it was good you know it's always good to go to those events and just sort of kind of hear different perspectives from different districts and and and see what other what other uh people are going going uh going through uh i will say that uh a lot of the sessions i went that had to do with collective bargaining made me appreciate that we've worked pretty well together during this time uh compared to some of the other stories i heard uh so so that was good um you know and i think
019that we're i think we're we're pretty much i think we're in a pretty good position to just move forward i don't know if you guys have anything else you want to add from the conference i was just going to say just to piggyback on the relationship with the union with with other sessions that we went to just to think about like funding or how folks are handling s or or what type of financial stability is in their in their um in their school systems it made me appreciate the work that our business manager and dr meyer and the staff has been able to do because by and large i felt like we were sitting in the meetings in the rooms we're ahead of the curve like i mean i think we are working well i
020think we do have a plan i think there was multiple plans that were sort of put together and given us the opportunity to react to what was what was happening real time so i had a great appreciation for that candidly because i think there's a lot of school systems that aren't in such a clear direction planning wise when it comes to the funds and what they can do for us so i commend the staff for that because we're in a really good spot yeah i guess i would just add to that too that you know my appreciation to be able to go to represent the clinton public schools and and um and and i would agree that it was validating networking with you know other school committee members and other superintendents and hearing uh about
021the you know the challenges that we all face and and yet um you know a lot of these recommendations that come out of these workshops are our work that's being talked about here or is in process here and um and so yeah i guess my biggest takeaway is just the validation of of all of the work that that everyone here is doing in the clinton public schools and and just the gratitude that i feel for all of the the effort that people put forward every day um so my next my next topic was uh facilities um so there is so first i guess if i go and order the agenda here uh there is gonna be a cms building committee meeting uh wednesday at seven o'clock i think we had uh kelly had sent out
022some invitations to people on the committee and uh you know that's probably not not a lot of heavy lifting on that that's going to be more of a sort of a meet and greet like make sure people you know give them a little bit of information about what the process is probably do a little tour of the building and talk about maybe best meeting times um for people so that we can when when the work starts ramping up a little bit so we can figure out what the uh you know what we need to do um the old fire station um you know there is a there is a meeting uh there's a surplus property committee meeting on the wednesday as well that group that's been meeting uh to talk about the different properties in
023town so i'll be attending that we did you know there are some some bills uh they're at the state level obviously they're trying to figure out what they can spend some of their money on uh from like the arp money and stuff like that that the state got allocated uh we did talk to uh representative kilcoin about possibly looking at getting some funding to do a project at the old fire station through through that process um she said it did fit sort of the initiative like the central mass initiative the the lawmakers in central mass were kind of trying to focus on different priorities and education was one of them so she thought that might fit um so we'll see i mean i have no idea how that process will go but uh at least
024it was something that was you know potentially positive so um so i'll share that with that other committee on wednesday and we'll see if that goes anywhere uh there's some general updates uh mr farger couldn't make it tonight in person um dragging him around for a lot of different things this week he's at the building committee meeting on wednesday and then i'm meeting with them on thursday to kind of do some of the uh msba facilities reporting that we need to get done by the end of the month um so in your packet you do have the strategic plan section of facilities that talked about different things talking about energy efficiency a lot of that has been you know in progress um you know just making sure that we're basically working with uh you know
025trying really trying to come up with preventative maintenance plans capital improvement plans those types of things that was sort of our strategic goals um and then the after that you have the update from uh mr farger with the sort of what's been going on i think he does have some staffing in he was able to get some new staff hired for some of the people that were at least temporarily for some people that were on out for workers on injury um the you know some of the ongoing projects he's listed there i don't need to to read them all but there's there's a lot of stuff going on in each one um i would say that the boilers so one of the main things that they're working on right now is um he's really working
026on some of the boiler systems trying to make sure that we have things operational as we really get prepared for the winter months here there's a couple things about things need to be replaced one of the problems is it's it's difficult to get things right now so even if you have a company and you say yeah you need to replace the boiler by the time you get that part it could be three months from now so we're working on those things um especially with some of our things because if they're you know if it's a 20 year old system some of those parts are kind of obsolete so tracking that down and getting it here can be a challenge he is also working on um some backup plans for worst-case scenarios including things like a
027portable boiler so that if we did have a system that went uh went completely down we wouldn't have to like close school for a heat day we'd be able to to get by if there was something like that so um you know overall i think uh you know the facilities department has been uh pretty responsive and i think we're treading in the right direction there as far as trying to to get things moving and like i said i'll be spending quite a bit of time this week with with uh mr fargo working mostly on the middle school and the msba stuff so um the fy21 end of year report i don't it's not included in here um we are still working on the town and reconciling some final figures uh we did normally that's this
028report's due in october you can you can apply for an extension of a month uh we also applied we also reached out to jay sullivan to ask for an additional extension just due to some of the just do the timing of some of the different leaves that people needed to take we're still working on reconciling some of our figures with the town that's really our final step we kind of have everything that we have all our expenses and stuff completed it's a matter of us just double checking with the town making sure our numbers match and if they don't figuring out why so we're still working on that process and um and it's been a little bit longer and there's a lot of school districts that are kind of in this boat this year because
029um some of the esser funds are able to be expensed back so like last march or whatever so as towns are looking to kind of spend down some of this money that's going to be that you have to spend soon it's almost like you're examining some of these reports to see is there anything that we spent money on that would actually qualify under that funding and then that's going to impact our our nba report so we're working on it my goal is to have it to you at the december meeting so that we should have it buttoned up by then um but it's uh it's just there's there's a lot of money stuff that went on this year with all the different grants and and what could be recoded over to certain things and what
030couldn't be recoded over to certain things so just straightening all that out and making sure that our numbers match the town's numbers that's that's where we are right now okay and i think that's all i have yeah um i don't think we have anything new from the curriculum committee from the last meeting um do we have anything from safety no no i know marketing just met prior to the last meeting so nothing new there policies and procedures has not met we have to i have to go back through the um masc um it didn't look like they gave their normal update with there wasn't much on policy changes yeah the only one that that i had that i sent you guys was really all it was all code related stuff that they kind of went
031over so uh normally they come out with a whole list of policies that you have to you know little things like you got to go through and add you know this this word to this policy and every in these ten policies or something like that so um you know it's probably good to set a policy meeting i mean we should at least have one and then if there's anything you guys have specific on the agenda but we didn't really get like tons of marching orders from the masc but we could look at different things i do think we still probably want to talk a little bit about um looking at maybe some of our fundraising policies i also think maybe looking at some of our travel policies might be wise right now uh just to
032make sure that you know we're yeah we're we're comfortable with how they are all right how they are all worded so all right we'll find a time and set a meeting um prior to um the 13th yep thank you um and please extend our thanks to mr farager for the detailed report on um facilities i i i don't think we need an update beyond what we've already had anything from negotiations okay all right bro anything under old business anything under new business i will i know we kind of talked about this before the meeting a little bit but i think that uh you know i know as our as our fall season kind of starts to wrap up um obviously some of our teams have different uh levels of success um we will want to
033recognize those so i think instead of just kind of doing it off the cuff right here and running the risk of omitting everybody we'll try to do again a fall a fall report uh so we can so in december we can just give updates on you know each of the teams and sort of how you know how they did it how they fared and and those types of things so we'll want to recognize our fall athletes and we'll want to do it in a little more formal way probably and i guess i would ask uh i think there's only one fall sports contest left right thanksgiving i know they have a thanksgiving day game yeah i don't think they have one this there's another consolation game this week right that's no that's what i meant
034yeah yeah is that is that it we're just down at the thanksgiving day game they don't have a game this week do they no okay that's okay tell me who is it again that clinton is playing on thanksgiving take uh i don't even know the name of the team anymore it changed i think you tend to rename it expansion school all right i i guess i will just close new business by saying go get them gails i hope everybody comes out 10 a.m down the road in bolton for the thanksgiving day classic and i guess the only thing i would say too is that uh when we do that update um i'll probably try to incorporate it to get a nice email today about some recognition from some of our students uh projects they submitted
035first part of our project lead the way program so that we'll try to get an update on that too so we'll try to try to build in some more student recognition stuff at the december meeting so we'll try to do that i don't know if we'll invite everybody we might just recognize them here and then give them something at their schools okay all right super um anything else in a new business all right i hope that everyone has a wonderful thanksgiving um thank you everyone for everything you've done working hard up to this point this year and once again go get them gails can we have a motion to adjourn i'll make that motion second motion made seconded any discussion there being none all those in favor unanimous we stand adjourned thank you
