001good evening everyone I'd like to call to order this school committee meeting of uh Monday January 29th 2024 um roll call Kate Kathleen Amal here Chris Oliver here best Coughlin here Shannon Jenkins here John noones yeah thank you um I ask that um folks who are able to please rise for the Pledge of [Music] Allegiance I pledge allegiance alance flag United States America and to the it one nation under God indivisible with liberty and thank you everyone thank you for the beautiful Graphics um so let me get to my uh so this meeting uh is here where we're remote via Zoom um and this meeting will be recorded on uh to be rebroadcast on DCTV channels 9 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5: Fridays at 6:00 a.m. Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and Sunday at 2
002p.m. um also through channel 18 on Monday and Saturday at noon and Thursday at 3 and so we the the one agenda item that brings us together um is to award the contract for uh legal councel and so I'm going to turn it over to uh Dr sa Maguire okay so um I just wanted to update the committee as to what the process was that we went through as a district and that is that um myself along with um assistant superintendent James Kylie and two of our school committee members um Chris Oliver and be C Coughlin uh we all sat on the interview committee we had an opport opportunity to um review several applications um if I remember right we had six in total and that from those six we decided to bring three forward
003uh we had an evening where we invited those candidates in and had uh the an interview process um at that time we only interviewed two of the three candidates that we had invited um and uh from after that opportunity we had discussion uh then we did some fact finding and came back together and decided as a team that uh we were going to move forward and recommend the law firm of Murphy Tumi hessie and laain um they had uh they have certainly had a strong interview the lead attorney his name is Kevin brahan attorney bran hand um we felt confident that his experience and wealth again wealth of knowledge not only that he held but that of his entire firm would uh definitely uh be a firm that would represent the community of Dartmouth well
004and so again six applicants all very uh certainly competent uh we were able to narrow it down to three interview two and feel really confident bringing this recommendation forward to the the committee thank you Dr Sab Maguire um I don't know if you want to add anything Mr Kylie since you did such a nice job organizing much of this process thank you Dr s Maguire I I just uh I guess I would just add that you we we we really did feel like we had a very strong pool of candidates um there was in within the pool there was a great deal of experience doing work um you know related to to our to our field um and ultimately our recommendation um for Murphy hessie Tumi and Lan is is one that's based on their
005level of experience working directly with the school districts and we were confident that uh you have good good opportunity here to engage them for the next year with options to renew all that so that is our recommendation thank you Mr Kylie um Mr NES I know you unmuted so I'm thinking perhaps you had something to no no I I didn't I just you know I mean if you're ready for a motion I can make that motion sure okay mad excuse me Madam chair make a a moment motion that uh we uh offer a contract to the law firm of uh Murphy Tumi uh haly and leag and we authorize the superintendent to sign said contract on behalf of the school committee second so we have a motion by Mr NES a second by Mrs coflin
006um any further discussion Miss Mr Oliver thank you madam chair so yeah I'll just Echo um what um Mr Kylie and Dr s Maguire said that a great po of candidates but ultimately uh this firm I think with their level of expertise as well as um the uh the number of attorneys they have uh working in different areas of educational law I think will help the dart schools go a long way so that's all I have thank you Mr Oliver any further discussion other than I go ahead Mr B um I agree with all that has been said um and I feel that uh Murphy hessie Tumi and leaine uh will give us the quickest um most experienced responses of all those who applied thank you B great so I think we're ready for a
