Let's go, Union. >> All right, welcome everyone to tonight's match up as the E.S. Memorial Spartans take on Melrose. Don't know who you're I didn't do my uh diligence to find out. >> the Red Hawks. >> Hawks, that's right. They used to be somebody else and they changed a few years ago. Spartans are coming into tonight's match up with their longest win streak ever after beating Minnechaug for the Western Mass finals 10 to 6. Their 10-game win streak beats out their 9-game win streak set in 2024, which is Spartans best team ever in my opinion. When they made it they made it to the final four that season as well. That's the only time E.S. Memorial played Melrose in which the Spartans beat Melrose 18 to 9 en route to the final four. E.S.' win

streak has gone on since losing four their first seven games. I'm here tonight with Emerson Bow Vino. How are you doing, Bow Vino? How you doing, Bow? >> I'm I'm glad to be here. Got Got to keep it going. Was there for the Western Mass title game, so figured I'd come back, join for the round of 32, so I'm excited to be here. >> I love it. I love having you. Mack Whitmer up on the draw. Ball kicks off. We're slow to get the uh Melrose roster up as Melrose gets the ball up. Turn around and met by Veronica Burns. Mack Whitmer comes up with it. She's getting the ball over and she will slow it down once she gets over the restraining line and set up the Spartans offense. Mack gets it over Pellegrino.

Pellegrino behind the cage to Pelletier. Pelletier to Illingsworth, back to Pelletier. All the way back to McEachnie. McEachnie to Whitmer. So, Spartans already getting the ball in a bunch of different girls' hands as Mack Whitmer now with the ball looking to turn around. She goes through one, two. She'll get herself shooting space and Mack Whitmer will be getting the Spartans' first attempt on net. 11 minutes or 1 minute into the game. Mack Whitwer 8-meter attempt. Mack Whitwer goes in, turns around, gets the ball past the goalie. Gets past McDonald to put the Spartans up one to nothing. Melrose comes into tonight's match up with a 19th seed owning an 8 and 8 record scoring 152 goals while giving up 217. team. Melrose has beaten East Long Meadow twice, Bo. >> Twice. Oh, I know when.

>> Do you know what sport that was? >> Soccer, yes. >> One time here, one time there, 2 years in a row. >> And then both those scores were only one to nothing, yeah. Good game. I think it was the best game the Spartans played that one year against Melrose. >> Yep. >> Well, that coach was an idiot, so. >> Yep. But, here we are. But >> Here we are against Melrose Lacrosse. Mack Whitwer's, you know what I mean, goals that was just for Mack Whitwer. >> did I hear? >> That was Mack Whitwer's 100th goal. Congratulations to Mack Whitwer on scoring 100 goals, not in their career, in a season. It's a pretty good uh pretty good feat according to teams that we're we've been doing that against, so Mack Whitwer up on the

draw against I can't 22. Matthews. Matthews won the draw the first time. Looks like they're going to get a redraw. Bo, we're on the first round of the states. The winner of this will play go on to play Hingham. So >> Another familiar foe from soccer. >> That's yes, and that game will be uh whoever wins this will face that. That'll be a tough tough team. Those are the time those final four teams all end up making it into the final four. >> Yep. >> Ball goes up. Mac Whitmer chases it down, comes away with ball once again. Nice cool night for the girls. Melrose, something that the Spartans haven't seen much. Tough rides, but I'm sure Melrose hasn't seen much of a player like Mac Whitmer beating the ride by herself. Kylie Marino gets

the ball over Lucy Parsons. Parsons behind the cage to Illingsworth. Over to Pelletier. Pelletier all the way back up to Mac Whitmer. Mac Whitmer to Mac Whitmer. Melrose sits in a man-to-man. They look like they have a two girls try to go in and >> Yeah. >> Girl gets Mac gets hit in the hit in the head. Melrose doing a good job. You see those two other girls really The Minnechaug did that against us the other day. >> Collapses right on her. >> Collapses right in. Mac Whitmer goes in, bounces one past McDonald to put the Spartans up two nothing with just under two minutes to go into just after two minutes to go in the first quarter. Mac Whitmer is now up to 101 goals. Chasing down. I'm superstitious, so >> Yeah. Oh, I

get it. I wasn't >> Holding off. >> lot Got a lot of game left to play, so >> That's a lot of game. A lot of game. Two nothing, Spartans up. Key to anything. This is a should be a fairly good match up. Both teams scoring a lot of goals. Melrose Melrose, when I looked in Arbiter, they're all over the place and playing Division 1 teams, playing Division uh 2 teams. False start on Melrose. Spartans will start up with the ball. McKechnie gets the ball. Gets the ball over the restraining line. Gets the ball to Lucy Parsons. Parsons back to Marino. Slew of ex-Spartan cross players here and get back to that in a second. Lucy Parsons gets ball up to Marino. Marino coming in. Gets the ball to Pelletier. Pelletier, good save by McDonald's

to save a point-blank shot from uh Pelletier. Melrose gets a call. Now, Melrose will be heading in heading up in the Spartans territory. Lucy Parsons giving good chase on that ride. The ball thrown into the middle. Bunch of you saw Melrose Spartans girls get the ball to the open side of the field. Get the ball over the restraining line. Melrose will set up their offense. >> You said Melrose goals were kind of all over the place to like for for who they were >> playing and what they were doing. Yeah. They they they scored a bunch of goals as Daniels turns around and gets a goal past Gray. Nice nice shot from Daniels. Be a little slow with calling all the names out. We got the roster from from Melrose. It wasn't in numerical order.

So, it's tougher for me to find the girls as they pop up, but Yeah, Melrose had a They played uh five games against Division 1, four against Division 2, four against Division 3, and three against Division 4. Most of their wins coming against the Division 4, Division 3 teams, but I think they're pretty highly ranked Division 4 five teams. >> That is interesting. I don't know if you always see stuff like that, but I don't know. It depends. >> Yeah, I think that's where they got their a couple of their losses were against Division 1 teams. This time Mac Whitworth with the false start. As Matthews gets the ball up. She gets the ball to Daniels. Daniels loses it. Matthews picks it up. Matthews turns around. Matthews quickly gets a quickly ties up the score

for Melrose. Score is all even at two with 7:55 left to go in the first quarter. >> I I think we're in for for a battle here tonight. Just what? 4 minutes in, four goals already. So, this is going to be This is going to be fun. >> Yeah, it's going to be a definitely a shootout. >> Yep. >> Hopefully some of those ex-Spartan athletes we have we have down there, Jenna Holley, Anna Macarani, Hannah Taft. >> Is it Kenna? >> Kenna Marino, yeah. And Grace Howard out there. >> Yep. >> Grace Howard and Jenna Holley anchoring that Spartans offense. What a grab by Mac Whitworth. Mac's always dangerous on the transition. Throws the ball a little high over Pelletier. That's one of those tough things with that that uh draw stick doesn't come off

your stick like it was Well, good job by Lucy Parsons to come up with it. Parsons always speedy. Turning around, Parsons goes in. She's met by a couple of girls, kicks the ball out to McKechnie. Coach Cal turns around calling out a play. Kylie Marino with the ball. Kylie Marino with four assists in that game the Western Mass finals. Feeding Illingsworth, Pelletier, and Lucy Parsons twice. Kylie Marino turns around, sees a seam, nothing there. Tries to force one into the middle. Luckily, Pelletier was there to Pelletier to McKechnie. McKechnie trying to see, nothing there. McKechnie pulls back. Coach Cal calling out something different. Looks like McKechnie and Whitworth setting up a little two-man. McKechnie turns around, finds Parsons. Parsons Good getting marked up. Good job by uh Melrose. Parsons around the cage, still zooming around,

turns around, takes a shot, finds Illingsworth. Illingsworth misses just wide, and Kylie Marino there to back that up. Good little uh passing by the Spartans right there around the cage. Kylie Marino. Thought she wasn't going to take that one in, pulls back. Melrose does a good job on collapsing so far. Marino turned around taking it in. Goes around the back of the cage looking for somebody, nobody there. Kicks the ball right back out to Pellegrino. Pellegrino turns and takes it in, kicks the ball all the way back to Parsons. Parsons behind the the cage. Parsons with just one girl in front of her. She turns around, throws the ball away, Gets the all the ball all the way back to the other side of the field to Pellegrino. Pellegrino back to Mac Whitmer behind the

X. Mac dangerous around the X as well. So, it looks like Mac and Beiner are around the cage. Mac turns around. Good job by Mac Whitmer to turn around scoop one past the goalie for her third goal of the game. What do you think about that one, Bo? >> I That was great. I was like I liked that little action with Macney and Whitmer. So, hopefully they can keep working on that throughout the night and I think there'll be some success with that certainly. So, >> Absolutely. As when I was driving over here, Bo, I was thinking about something. Thinking about you and I turned around I was always call you Bo knows. Your dad knows about the whole Bo That shirt. And I was thinking about it. If you combine your nickname Bo along

with the end of your last name Bo knows. >> Bo knows. There it was. >> It was there the entire It was there the entire time. >> the entire time. Nine years have gone by and I never thought about it until I was coming over here. >> Here we are. >> And here we are. Last game. Congratulations. All done with high school right now. >> Appreciate it. Yep. >> Finished Finished today. >> It was It was a great day. So, honestly can't believe we're here, but >> Hopefully you can finish it off with a big W for the Spartans tonight. >> Yes. Yes. >> Ball goes way. Good hand Oh. Going to say good hands, but then uh Matthews comes up with it and kicks the ball out to Arnold. Is that Daniels with the

ball behind the cage? Kicks the ball to Arnold. Back to Matthews. Good save by Julia Gray. As it looks like Downs took took that shot. Gray kicks it up to Mary DeVoy. Mary DeVoy with a quick pass to Hannah Eddy. Hannah Eddy with a little bit of open space. Hannah Eddy gets the ball over to McKechnie. Can McKechnie get in and out? McKechnie goes through one. Nothing there. McKechnie rolls, nothing there. Pulls back and set up the Spartans offense. McKechnie over to Whitworth. Whitworth over to Pelletier. Back to Whitworth. Back to McKechnie. Moreno. Lucy Parsons behind the cage to Pelletier back to Whitworth, over to McKechnie. Over to Moreno. Now we have a little bit of action. Everybody draws some people away. Moreno takes the ball in. Gets the ball over to McKechnie. McKechnie turning

around has loses it. Good little soccer skills kicks it out to the open space. McKechnie behind the cage. McKechnie over to Pellegrino. Back up top to Whitworth. Spartans are going to have to be patient, which they have been. Oh, good job. Oh. Good job. Nice pass by Whitworth to Moreno. Moreno gets a good shot off and McDonald turns around makes a great save. How that happened? I looked down. >> It I think like the ball went over her stick. Lost it. Like it off a pass. >> All right. >> Like just right over her stick, so. >> I thought Well, I take it back. I thought McDonald made the save. Now McDonald the ball. McDonald out of the area looking to find somebody. He gets the ball into the middle. Nice grab by a Melrose.

As they turn around throw the ball. Get the ball up to Healy. Healy met by two Spartans and Healy turns around gets the ball to Matthews. And the Red Raiders will set up their their offense. There's two Healy's out there. 18 and 19 they're both Healy's. As they look down Julia Gray comes up with it gets the ball into the ever speedy Kylie Marino when she gets a little bit of steam be tough to stop her as she gets the ball over the 50. Gets the ball over the restraining line will set up the Spartans offense. Kekney with the ball. Now Whitworth with the ball. Whitworth with the ball. Spartans slowing down the pace of the game like they kind of did in the the Minnechaug game. Can almost eat Melrose not stepping up. Can

almost eat the last minute and a half of the uh the clock and take a last shot. >> Definitely work for a good shot uh this last minute 15. >> Lot of action going on as all the Spartans are going pulling back out and now it's Marino, Whitworth, and McKechnie around the cage. Whitworth and Marino. Marino behind the cage. Now you're she's getting met by a bunch of other Melrose. Mack Whitworth with the ball. Mack Whitworth turns around, tries to go low, saved by McDonald, and Whitworth gets her own rebound. Gets the ball up to Pellegrino. Pellegrino over to Parsons. Parsons to Marino. Now it looks like it'll be Marino and Whitworth's turn to take two-man. Marino goes around, nothing there. Gets the ball back to Mack Whitworth. Now Mack turns around, sees a little

bit of space, goes around the back of the cage, turns around, fires one in. Nice pass by Whitworth. McKechnie misses just wide. Good job by Parsons to back it up. Parsons hits the Marino as she's coming in, gets knocked loose. Marino stays with the ball. Marino looking for a call saying something as time has expired. The Spartans will go into the second quarter with a three to nothing lead or three to two lead. >> All right, we are back for second quarter action as Matthews and Daniels had the goals for the Red Raiders and Mack Whitworth the only goal scorer for the Spartans with a hat trick. So, what do you think the Spartans need to do more of? I mean, they it was a good good back and forth the first 5 minutes of

the game, Bo, and then we kind of slowed the pace down. What do you think we need to do? >> Yeah, I was going to say the same. I mean, not too many nothing crazy. I just think I I like the patience on offense. I think just got to you know, convert, finish, like take the chances when you get them, and go from there. So. >> Definitely. I agree. I like to see I think we need to pick up a little bit more. We haven't had any of the transition really plays. Because they've scored and we've only had really two blocks. So. We will see. Stay tuned. Mac Whitmer and Matthews on the draw. Followed up. Ball's loose and looks like Healy comes up with it. Healy gets ball over the restraining line, gets the

ball to the back of the side. Downs with the ball. Downs all the way back to Matthews. Matthews looking to go by a screen stepped on by McEachney. Kicks it out to Arnold. Arnold turns around, does a roll dodge, throws the ball high. Is the other Daniels is there to back it up. So, just Daniels and Matthews? >> Yeah, I think there's two Daniels, too. >> two Matthews. All right, so I'll just call Daniels and Matthews all the time. >> And two or two Healys? >> right? But there's an Arnold, Healey. Yeah, Healey Healey. Yeah. >> [snorts] >> So you can't go wrong with whoever we bunch of sisters on the team, I guess. I don't know. >> So this is Matthews with it. 20 number 22 Matthews. Matthews with the ball or 8-m attempt

for uh Red Raiders first attempt of the game on an 8-m. Matthews runs it in, goes low. Julia Gray >> Oh. Great save. >> Nice little kick save by Julia Gray. Keep that out in front. This is a little bit of a different uh ride move >> [cheering] >> that we saw against Minnechaug. Minnechaug really backed up to prevent us from really getting down the field. Looks like the Red Raiders are going to do a uh full court man-to-man press. >> I was thinking the same thing there. >> Yeah. So at some point I would like to turn around and be When that happens, see Julia Gray put the ball behind the cage. And good job. Nice stick check by Mary Devoe. Another stick check. Good hustle by Mary Devoe. Good work by Mary Devoe

to turn around and shield the body and get that ball. As she gets the ball back to Julia Gray. This is what I was talking about. >> Yep. >> Get the ball in the back. Or we can just put the ball in the back of the cage and let Kylie go get it. Another stick check. Mac picks it up one hand all nonchalantly. Mac gets the ball over the restraining line, sets the Spartans offense up. Or she finds a seam, turns around, takes a shot, misses just wide. Crimmins there to back up the ball. >> Definitely likes the look of that though, getting up the field quickly. >> Yes. >> Creating a little bit of chaos on the defensive end through that transition game. >> Crimmins always really really good in uh that quick transition.

Cachney with the ball. Cachney over to Pelletier. Pelletier behind the cage to Parsons. Parsons all the way back out to Cachney. Cachney going in. Cachney turns around, goes by one, takes a roll, goes through another, gets the ball taken away from her. Melrose now on the offensive. Lucy Parsons giving chase. Uh almost from the Spartans. They get the ball off the 20 Healy Healy throws it away to Arnold. Arnold to Healy. Daniels with the ball, kicks the ball back to This is what happens. I don't have everything in number. Matthews. Change it at half time. >> Yeah, I was going to say, well, that'll be a half time adjustment. >> As Matthews goes in, turns around, takes a shot. This is just wide. >> Looks like 46 is up there on the attack, too. McNeely.

She might have She might have been the one to just chase it out. >> McNeely with the ball. Over to Arnold. No, Arnold with the ball now. No, ball on the field. Good heads up by uh the referee. >> Is it always two referees here only? >> Uh sometimes you get three. But that'll probably happen more >> later on. >> in the states. Nice pass by Yeah. Nice pass by Matthews. I don't know who scored that goal, but Melrose now tying up the score 3-3 with 7:30 left in the first quarter. >> I think it was 28 on the goal, maybe. >> Arnold with the goal, assisted by Matthews. >> Yep. So, is that three different goal scorers now? >> Yeah, that was Arnold had that That three different goal scorers for Melrose. Melrose really

moving the ball around. Goal discrepancy between Essemel coach and the official. Don't like to criticize the officials. They always have a tough time with her. Yes. Yeah, from basketball, too. >> It's all right. We play on. It's >> We were on a draw. I think she lives somewhere else and she moved here. >> Got you. Got you. >> Ball goes up. It's a chase down. McKenney comes up with a nice little one-handed ground. McKenney's quickly swarmed. She gets the ball over the restraining line. And we'll shut up the East Meadow offense? Thank you very much. Pellegrino with the ball. To Crimmins. Over to Pelletier. Over to Parsons. To Merino. Up top to Whitworth. Up to McKechnie. Whitworth still with the ball. Now we get a little bit of movement. Whitworth calling out a play. Everybody's

cleared out. Mac Whitworth with the ball. Mac turns around looking to go by. Nothing there. Now Mac Mac seems finds a seam. Turns around and takes a shot and goes upper post on Mac Mac McDonald. Mac Whitworth with their fourth goal of the game. That's always a nice little blazer. Upper 90. It's tough. I mean, and to think she's >> She's a righty. >> Yeah, that's >> the ball that hard. That just That goes to show you how much hard work you put in into the off-season. Mac Whitworth with their fourth goal of the game to put the Spartans up 4-2-3. >> Just incredible what she's done all season and tonight proving to be no different. So, just incredible for Mac Whitworth. >> Great great uh goal scorer. Great kid. So, looks like Matthews and

Whitworth back up on the draw once again. >> So, they've been on all the draws. Both of each of the two of them. >> Both, yeah. It's been pretty I'd say it's been pretty close, 50-50. Just like anything, that's probably what the game will all come down to, draw control. >> Yeah. >> A lot of whistles. And it'll be the Red Raiders ball. >> Um McCaffrey's going to get her. >> Red Raiders have the ball behind the cage. Daniels with the ball. Over No, 22's in there. >> Is that >> Matthews. >> Yep, Matthews with it now. Still Matthews, I think. Yep, surveying from the top. >> 28 Arnold. Yep, Arnold. Oh. Maybe Ashley I was looking >> Yeah, Matthews has just took a shot. >> Matthews took a shot, good save by Julia Gray

quickly getting the ball up to the freshman Burns. Burns gets a check to the head. As the officials are turning around telling a girl Oh, yeah, see now like that's something we're looking to give the ball. I know that's what you want to do, but we have the advantage, right? >> Just keep going. >> Yeah, like she wanted to get it over to Mac. Mac gets hit in the dome looking for call. You love when the girls run down the field and have to adjust their goggles. >> Yep. >> But that just makes Mac and Mac four. Mac turns around, takes a shot. This time goes upper 90 again with her right hand. Mac Whitmer putting on a display. That's Mac's fifth goal of the game to put the Spartans up five to three. >>

Here Here's something nice from the Here's something nice from Melrose as one of the parents yells out, "They only have one kid." I don't know about you, Bo, but I think there's more than one kid out on the field. >> I think there's been some great defensive plays by the Spartans so far, whether that's from the keeper, Julia Gray, or >> Julia Gray's made a couple >> Mary DeVoy's made a couple good stick checks. Gianna Byron's held some people straight up, so I think I think it's been a full team effort by the Spartans so far, and I think that should continue. >> Yes, absolutely. >> Looks like someone different on the draw, maybe? >> Yeah, it looks like Bina McKechnie on the draw. >> And I think a different Melrose. 24 was on the

draw there. Daniels and other Daniels? >> Another Daniels. >> Different Daniels. >> [clears throat] >> So, left-handed Daniels versus McKechnie on the draw. McKechnie flicks it up to Whitworth. Ball's still loose. Still loose on the ground. The official wanting to get not calling anything for the Spartans as the Red Raiders now get the ball. Healey with the ball over the restraining line. Gets the ball to Matthews. >> Who's that? 46? That was >> Arnold with the ball. I thought they had a couple girls Normally, I can tell difference They have a couple girls that look alike, kind of team. It's tough. It's Downs with the ball. Downs turns around, gets the ball in. >> I think that might have been McNeely over there, but I don't know who's got it now. Oh, great save by

Julia Gray. >> There's a shot by the other Daniels turning around and they're really shooting the ball low on Julia Gray every time so far this game as Gray gets the ball over to Marino. And I could be wrong, but I don't think that's Mac Whitworth like that. Somebody from Melrose was saying that looks like somebody different on that team. They got the ball over. Kylie Marino with the ball. Marino behind the cage. Getting the ball over to Pellegrino, the freshman who scored the first goal the other day at for the Spartans to start off that Western Mass finals. >> Mhm. >> That's a different player, too. That's Mhm? That's going to be my thing having to say. >> You got another announcer, Steve Veno, chiming in. So >> it. Steve and I were doing

girls basketball and girls soccer all these years. McKechnie goes in and >> So, is that turnover of some sort? >> If I'm coach Cal, I know who I'm blocking next year. >> Cuz what what do we know what that was or some kind of check or I >> Anything. She makes them up as we go. [cheering] >> Got you. >> Mac Whitworth gets the ball, knocks the ball away. Melrose comes up with it. Melrose is a good Melrose very, very efficient when they get the ball. >> Mhm. >> They're always a good passing team. They don't force a lot of shots. Sure sticks on everybody and that is Arnold gets the ball over the restraining line. Arnold turn around seeing a little bit of space looking to go by McKechnie. She does. McKechnie bounces it.

See, once again, Arnold with that nice shot in front. This time they they finish it. Arnold turns around and passes the ball to Matthews. The cut the Spartans lead down five to four. That's Matthews. I Could be Matthews. >> Yes, that's that's who >> That's Mat- No, yeah, I didn't didn't know if there was more than one Matthews on the team. >> Oh. Cuz it was a great first save by uh Julia Gray. Just >> Yeah. >> Then they were on the rebound right there. So. >> Good job by Arnold to stay with that play and hit Matthews and Matthews gets one past the the goalie. Not much not much we can do when they're passing ball around that quickly, that good. So. It's what you want in a state playoff game, a close close

game and Matthews and McKechnie up on the draw again. >> [cheering] >> You got that beam right in front of you. Yeah, I know. I'm tr- >> It's all right. Are we in the works for a new one? >> I I think so. We'll see. We'll see what they do when they come up with the money. The ball pops out. Matthews comes up with it again. Matthews getting the ball over to Arnold. Intercepted by Mac Whitworth and this is where the Spartans are always tough in transition. Look for Mac Whitworth to find a seam. If not, she'll find Illingsworth or Pelletier or Good job Good job by Mac Whitworth for her sixth goal of the game. And that goal there, she ties the Spartans season season sec- season record for goals scored in a season

with 105 goals beating Addie Jordan set that record two or three years ago. Good congratulations to Mack Whitwer on that. And I And not taking anything away, not to cut you off, but I just wanted to turn around and say that that goal started and finished because Pelletier and Illingsworth did an incredible job starting off bringing the girls close to the cage and then pulling the girls away and creating that scene for Mack Whitwer. So, an all-around team effort on that. Yes, absolutely. >> People don't see that when you taking those defenders away or if they stay, now Mack can get an eight an eight-meter attempt for shooting space. >> Certainly. >> Good job on the Spartans this time. Marino Matthews comes up with it once again. The Cagney with an empty check. Matthews turning

around gets the ball over. Restraining line will set up Melrose's offense. Kick the ball over to Healey. Over to Arnold. Who has behind the cage now? Ball's thrown away. Lucy Parsons can't come up with it. At 16 Spartans swarming. Good job by the offense. The offense attackers are swarming it. Illingsworth comes up with a temporary lot of empty stick checks and Illingsworth comes up with the ball. Good job by Julia. She turns around, gets the ball up to Parsons. Spartans have the numbers. You'd like to see Lucy with her speed try to go in. Ball gets knocked away. Pelletier comes up with it. Pelletier pulls back, gets the ball over to Marino. She's over the line. Over the line on that. I don't know how they couldn't have saw that. Stepped >> That was Yeah,

I >> She stepped over the line. That was offsides. Kylie Marino gets a card. Kylie Marino will be getting a uh I don't know what the card was for, but Marino is sitting out the rest of the half. There's 13 seconds left. Spartans up 6-4. Plenty of time for Melrose to to score. Spartans almost want to let them sit back a little bit and eat up the clock. Yeah. >> Did you see Grace Howard telling the girls get back? >> Yep. >> Ball's loose. And if anybody can get it and score, that'll end up the clock. I'd like to see Parsons if she came up with it. And that's dangerous throw with no time left. Spartans going into halftime up 6-4. Stay tuned, everyone. >> Mhm. >> Add it to when you're done. >> Are

we back? Okay, we're back. >> Welcome back to second half action. What do you think we need to do? What do you What do you think both teams need to do, Bo? >> Like we were talking about for Melrose, I think you said sure sticks, and I think that's totally what they have. I mean, they're definitely consistent. Everyone They've worked it around a lot, and I think they've just been coming short in like the finishing aspect, but I'd like the spar- I'd like to see a little bit more of that maybe from the Spartans moving it around, getting some more getting some more people involved. I think >> A lot more movement. >> Yep. If so if some other attackers demand attention, then I think that'll open things up for the Spartans on the offensive

end, so >> I think that's a good good little strategy. Spartans going into second half with a two-goal lead, 6 to 4. Mac Mac Whitwer with all four all six of the Spartans' goals, tying Addie Jordan for the Spartan lead all time. And Arnold Matthews with two goals and Daniels with a goal for Melrose. Spartans still down a player for >> Oh, I forgot about that. >> minute 40. As Daniels comes up with the ball, the ball bouncing up. Good grab by Matthews. Matthews takes a shot, saved by Julia Gray. McEachnie with the ball. She has open room. McEachnie gets the ball over the restraining line. Hopefully, she pulls back, and this is when the Red Raiders should really kind of double-team whoever has the ball because we're down a player. Pellegrino with the ball.

She turns around and gets the ball back to McEachnie. McEachnie gets the ball to Whitwer. Whitwer turns around, finds a seam. That's How is that I I'm going to be a Mac, good stick hands nevertheless, gets the ball back. Mac Whitwer goes in and out. Whitwer still with the ball, turns around, and takes a takes a shot, and this is just just high as Lucy Parsons there? Spartans should be probably another 30 seconds and Kylie will Kylie Marino will jump back in. Pellegrino with the ball. Pellegrino goes in and out of a couple of defenders, gets hit to the body, to the face, you pick it. Pellegrino >> What's coming out? >> Then Pellegrino ends up I don't even know what the call was. >> know. It might have been something with a screen. I

don't know cuz >> Oh, illegal screen. Yeah, we're good for that. We tend to always move the move the body. >> Same with me, so I was >> were always good at doing that. >> Yeah, so I can't can't say too much about that, but >> Defender Good gets the ball up to the other side and Kylie Marino joins the rest of the Spartans as we're now even. Matthews turns around, gets the ball in front. Misses just wide. It's McNeely behind the net. McNeely to Daniels. Daniels turn to be behind the cage. Daniels looks to go around, nothing there. Oh. >> So that's an 8-meter here? >> Yeah, that'll be an 8-meter at 10. It looks like Mary Devoy got a little too close on that and Daniels getting an 8-meter attempt. Looks like she's

a lining up to run it in. A lot of times they'll cut back. >> Mhm. Some issues with the goal down there, I guess. They're moving it. Guess it's fine now. >> Yes, yeah. Just reps are thorough when they want. Daniels pulls back out, gets the ball over to Arnold. Arnold up top to Healey. Healey Don't know who that is. The other Daniels, maybe? >> Is it Matthews, 22? >> 22 Matthews, yep. Matthews. Good eyes, Matt. Good eyes, Bo. Matthews behind the the cage to Healey. Not Healey. Arnold. Arnold to Daniels. Daniels good good defense by Mac Whitworth. Or good good defense by Mary DeVoy. And good job by Gianna Byron to come in and get that stick check and pop it loose. Mac Whitworth breaking ankles out there. That's one for the highlight reel.

>> Yes. >> Mac Whitworth over the 50s. She's a little bit of daylight. Gets the ball over the restraining line. Gets the ball to Parsons. Parsons runs it in turns around takes a shot. Save by McDonald. Good save by McDonald. She gets behind the net looking to start their offense. Parsons stops that. Good job by Lucy. Now it's just her and the goalie. Gets the ball stick checked. Good job by Lucy to get a piece of that. Lucy Parsons trying to feather it into Pelletier. Pellegrino picks it up, takes a shot, misses just wide. Parsons there to back it up. >> Great pressure there by the Spartans, though. >> that. Yeah, it all started good save by McDonald and Parson Parsons stayed with that and forced the turnover. Get to keep the ball in the

Spartans zone. Finds Parsons finds the open Kylie Marino, good save by McDonald. Melrose looking to restart. Melrose having a little bit of a tough time beating the ride. That ball's thrown up. Good job finding the open Healy and Healy has a little bit of daylight. Mary DeVoy tries to get [music] a stick check. Good job by Hannah Eddy to come in at the last minute. Hannah Eddy, good job running that down. >> Spartans Another turnover from the Spartans. As Daniels turns around. Daniels turns around, throws it away. And Hannah Eddy turns around and says, "Thank you very much." And she turns around, turns the ball over to Matthews. Now, Matthews is off. If she can get by one, it'll just be her and Gray as she goes around the cage. And she'll set up Melrose's

offense kicking the ball over to Healy. Healy over to Daniels. Daniels to the other side of the cage. The other Healy over to Matthews. Matthews seems to be Oh, no, that's not Matthews. That was Daniels. Melrose kicking the ball all the way back out to Healy. Healy with just Gianna Byron. Getting backed up. Good Good job by Burns. Now, he's stopped by Gray. Ball's popped loose. Spartans come up with that one. Some type of turnover. Call it somebody hitting back in the head again. She's used to it. She gets hit in the dome like 15 times a game. >> The best part is she just gets right back up and then runs by five people. So >> Yes. Over and over. >> Yep. >> There's one. Now, you see Melrose is kind of backing off

into a mini charge the other day realizing that they can't that full full ride isn't doesn't work. Mack Whitworth turning around doing a little shimmy. Nothing there. Finds Pelletier. Pelletier gets hit in the head. This time the official sees it. >> That's the glad the the goggles came off. Wow. >> Yeah. That's what it takes. That's what it takes to get an 8-meter. Yeah, goggles have to come off. Pelletier's gotten hit in the noggin a bunch of times this year with no calls. Not just these officials, but all year long she's happens. But Jane Pelletier 8-meter attempt. Pelletier false start. And Melrose will come up with it deep into their territory. Matthews kicks the ball out. We'll go with Ahelya. She's getting chased by bunch of the Spartans. It's not Ahelya. It's Daniels. McNally. Oh.

Now Daniels with the ball. Daniels behind the cage. Downs. Downs looking to turn around and go up and over. Julia Gray turns around says, "No, thank you. I'll take that." And she kicks the ball up to Kylie Marino. Kylie Marino will start the Spartans offense. So that's what it looks like from them. They turn around and if it's anybody other than Mack, they'll trip her team or and Kylie Marino evades it all. Kylie Marino, one of the bigger faster players in Western Mass. Gets the ball over to Pellegrino. Pellegrino over to McKechnie slowing down the pace. Spartans up 6-4 with just under 4 minutes left in the third quarter. Mack over to Marino. Marino up on top. >> Vivian, no no goals this quarter, right? Nope. >> No, not one goal. Marino turning around. She

goes around the corner. She turns around goes in and out. Nothing there. Marino always dangerous when she goes behind the cage. Kicks the ball back out to Whitwer. Whitwer with the ball. Mack turns around. This time Mack will get herself some shooting space. Mack Whitwer looking to get an 8-m attempt. On an unfavorable for most people for the 8-m. We'll see what Mack can do with this. Mack runs in left-handed twizzler turns around and good save by the goalie. >> Great stop by McDonald's. McDonald looking to turn around find somebody. She gets the ball to Healey. Healey with the ball. She gets the ball up to Daniels. Good job by Burns to stay with her. Daniels still with the ball. And she gets pushed back out to the 30 and they will be resetting their

offense. Matthews with the ball to the wide open Daniels misses wide. The other Dan No, Ar- Arnold there to back it up. I feel like I'm calling the same girls the wrong names all game long. Arnold with the ball. Looking to do a roll on the Cackney. Nothing there. Kicks the ball out to Matthews. Matthews around the corner turns around go tries to go five hole with Julia Gray, and Julia Gray with another stop keeping the Spartans definitely both keepers keeping uh both teams in the games. >> I was just going to say some some great goalkeeping we've seen this quarter and throughout the game. I mean, as reflected by the score, so. >> Absolutely. These goalies are having a uh tremendous game on both sides of the the fields. McKecknie with the ball. McKecknie

over to Parsons. Parsons to Illingsworth. Illingsworth with two goals the other day in the Western Mass Championship game. Crimmins turns around, one hops it to Mack Whitworth up on top. We'll have to wait till the last the last shot, or Mack will do what Mack does best. Gets the ball to McKecknie. McKecknie still with the ball, does a roll dodge. Nice pass to Whitworth, and Mack Whitworth just scores. Oh, no. Well, that was a nice pass by Wiener to >> It's like a little setup there. >> Yeah, but Sabina McKecknie 8-m attempt. Sabina McKecknie runs it in, turns around, and goes low on the goalie, and Sabina McKecknie gets herself up on the board. And I don't know, but that looks like that's more than one other person from uh East Longmeadow now. >> Yep,

I >> That's to the fan that says they only have one girl. We have a whole bunch of them, so. Sabina McKecknie with a goal to put the Spartans up 7-4 with 31 seconds to go in the third quarter. I'm not going to lie, I I would have liked to have that at that assist to Mack. That would have been a nice nice uh 1:06 goal. >> Yep. >> But the Spartans turn around not taking anything away from the Kackney and Spartans up on the board 7-4 with 31 seconds left to go in the third quarter. Kackney on the draw. That's the first goal like you pointed out. That's the first goal for either team in this half is is a shootout to begin the beginning of the game. >> Mhm. Definitely has slowed down.

>> Well, I think it's been the goalies. McDonald and Gray have just been making save after save. Kackney on the draw against Matthews. Matthews comes up with it again. Now Matthews has been really really dominating that uh that draw. And there's a stick check on Mc- Kackney. Looks like she got a little bit too much. She got a hand. Just like the other day against picking on Minnechaug for their fans knowing everything. It seems like the Melrose fans attempting to know everything. So, it looks like right now Daniels No, Daniels kicks it out to Matthews. Matthews turning around met by a bunch of people. Gets the ball over to >> [cheering] >> 28 Arnold. Arnold with her second goal of the game. It seems like whenever Arnold and Matthews have the ball, that's when that's

when Melrose is at their most dangerous. >> Those two have been passing the ball back and forth really good to each other. Seems like that's when most of their scoring opportunities happen. Arnold with her second goal. Matthews has two goals. Spartans going to have Matthews and McKechnie on the draw with 8 seconds to go. >> Yeah, I think there's been limited movement on both sides in terms of the attackers. Like similar people staying in the game. I That's how it is round of 32. You got to >> Yeah. >> go with your go with your best players, but >> Absolutely. >> Definitely feel like we've been saying the same same names. >> Yep. MacLeod with a nice one-handed grab. Mac has 5 4 3. Gets the ball up to Parsons. Parsons takes a shot. And

McDonald with a nice save as uh buzzer sounds. The Spartans having a 7-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Stay tuned, everyone. This is going to be a nail-biter right till the end. >> All right, we're back with our fourth quarter action. >> Spartans holding a 7-5 lead. >> Pretty much up for anybody at this point, Bo. >> Yeah, this this certainly going to be a fight to the finish, so. >> It'll be a Dad has a a saying I don't want to I don't want to take it away from him. It's really really good. Maybe you can say get your dad to send it to you and you can say it. >> Okay. I'm not recalling even after my extensive >> whole ticket. Or the seat I don't want I can't take it from

Steve. That's his punchline and I love it. Yeah, and I probably wouldn't even say it right. So then I'd mess it up and he'd be like, "You're not even saying it right." >> Well, it's all right. >> McKechnie and Matthews on the draw once again. Matthews trolls gets ball up can who can come up with it? Kylie Marino knocks the all the open space. Ball goes out of bounds. Melrose with the ball. Matthews turns around and gets the ball up to Daniels. Daniels gets ball over the restraining line loses it temporarily. And she gets the ball over to Matthews. I don't know. Official asking for 20 more seconds to be off the clock. >> We got Steve chiming in. He says, "We'll save you the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge." >> That's

it. >> And he said, "Jeff can use it anytime." >> [laughter] >> That's my buddy Steve. He always comes through. Yeah, that was a great thing when the game was good. Hopefully Hopefully that's all you need is the edge of the seat for the rest of this game. >> Mhm. Mhm. >> 7-5 Spartans up. Melrose working the ball around turns around kicks the ball all the way to the top to Matthews. Matthews finds the wide open Arnold. Arnold pulls back good defense by Byron. MacWherter picks up the switch. Arnold still with the ball. Good job by Merritt to void a step in and stop the shot from happening. And she kicks the ball back to I was Daniels turning around and finding other Daniels maybe. I think 44 scored that. >> Yeah. I I think

I think so. >> [screaming] >> It's Daniels' second goal of the game. Cut the Spartans lead down to one 7 to 6 with 10:46 left to go in the game. >> And there was some good defense there from the Spartans, but just a couple good passes broke them down. >> Yeah, great great passing around for from the Red Raiders. Being really patient, waiting to find that open open player as they did and Daniels finds the back of the net for for Melrose. Put them within one. McKechnie and Matthews on the draw. Ball's loose. Ball's still on the ground. Matthews Matthews comes up with it, turns around, and gets the ball to the Daniels. Daniels off to the races. Turns around, finds Daniels takes a shot. Good save by Julia Gray. As now the ball's behind

the cage. They kick the ball out to Arnold. Arnold up on top to Matthews. Matthews to Healy. The other Healy. Turned around, going around. No, that Healey. That's Daniels. Melrose 10 seems to be dangerous when around the back of that cage finding those open cutters. Somebody's got to give help. Good job by Mary to avoid it. Stay with that. Good job by Kylie Marino to get a piece of that. That ball goes out of bounds. Spartans ball. Gianna Byron picks it up. Gianna Byron with a little bit of room to go. And Byron gets forced out of bounds. Good job by Melrose to force Gianna out of out of bounds. Melrose will restart their offense. Daniels with the ball. Kicks the ball over to Matthews. Matthews over to Daniels. Looking to Look to set up

a Daniels versus McKechnie. McKechnie stays in front. Kicks the ball back out to Matthews. Mac Whitworth turning around. And Matthews turns around goes around the corner gets one by Julia Grade even it all up. 7-7 with 8:55 left to go in the fourth quarter. It's Matthews' third goal of the game. She has a hat-trick. >> Big draw coming up here cuz I think >> Absolutely. Spartans haven't won one in a >> That's Yeah. >> while. Spartans' lone goal was McKechnie in the in the third quarter. So, right now Melrose is up 3-1 after half time. It's all tied up now. 8:55 left in the fourth quarter. McKenney and Matthews on the draw. Ball goes up. False start by Matthews. Lucy Parsons gets the ball over the restraining line. She's always speedy. Lucy Parsons turns around

goes in. Smartly pulls the ball back. Gets the ball over to Emma Kramers can't handle it. Ball goes out of bounds. Melrose comes up with it. Melrose over the 40-yard line. Weaves in and out. And looks like Matthews will get the ball over the restraining line. And set up the spar- set up the Red Raiders offense. As she's saying, we need a a big stop. >> Yep. Big possession right here. >> Yes. Matthews turns around. Ball goes back to Matthews. All the way to Healey. Melrose calling out there in their play that they want. It's Downs with the ball to Matthews. Over to Arnold. Or Daniels. Daniels switches left, gets over to Matthews. Turns around to fires one into the middle. >> [cheering] >> This time it's Arnold with the ball. Arnold gets her her

third goal of the game to put Melrose up 7 to 7 to 8 with 7:26 to go in the fourth quarter. This is kind of like the same thing with the Minnechaug game though where every possession really makes makes or break every single game and you hate to see any of those unforced turnovers. Cuz they'll come back and and bite you. I mean, you know, Julia Gray can only come up with so many saves. But the Spartans would Did Melrose score first? I can't remember if Melrose scored first cuz I think this was just the first time Melrose is up. >> I think we I think Mac did. >> Mac scored first. So, this is Melrose up for the first time in today's game. >> Another big draw here. What's >> We have a redraw

with McKechnie and Matthews. >> What constitutes a redraw? Or oh, it doesn't go above there. >> It doesn't go above their head or if both people started or >> I something okay. >> know the rules. I make them up so when people are at home saying this guy doesn't know anything, they're pretty much right. I don't know everything. >> But guess what? It's lacrosse and none of them know anything either. >> Mhm. >> Well, some of them the ones that actually the ones that played did. But ball goes up. Lucy Parsons in on it. The ball's still loose. McKechnie kicks it over to Whitwer. Whitwer still in it. Can Whitwer pick it up? That's an empty check. Whitwer picks it up. And make Whitwer turns around, gets the ball. That's nice. We'll see what happens.

Whitwer with the ball. She has her numbers. Whitwer turning around. Looking to double her up when she when she gets that. Whitwer over to McKechnie. Back to Whitwer. Spartans really really waiting to see. Pretty stagnant on it, looking to make something happen. She gets the ball over to Parsons. Parsons throws the ball away. The Spartans two times in a row Spartans have gone down. Had unforced turnovers. Melrose comes up with the ball. Good job by Good to split the defenders. Good with the ball. Good throws the ball up. Healy comes up with it. Healy runs the ball over the restraining line, will set up the offense for Melrose. >> And now we wonder is Melrose going to slow it down? >> You You think at some point I mean they have a one-goal lead. I

think Melrose's you know they have the hot hand right now. So if I'm if I'm them I don't They don't need to slow it down. I would keep keep it keep pressing the Spartans. I mean they do a really good job passing the ball around and not losing it. >> So they can be patient, make the make the Spartans mess up. >> Mhm. >> These games are kind of really tough to turn around and see through these these this glass. >> so It's so dark. >> Ball's loose. >> Great work. >> Kiana Byun good good work by Byron to come up with that. Byron splitting the defenders, gets hit in the head not once or twice. She keeps going. And >> go, G. >> Connecticut College commit gets the ball up over to Illingsworth. Illingsworth

with the ball and she pulls back. Time out, Spartans. >> What a great addition though, Gianna Byron, this >> Oh, absolutely. For her to come back and really help out and anchor the the Spartans defense. >> It's been big. >> Her and Julia Gray coming back were two big help. >> Mhm. >> Helping out. We'll be back after a minute. Time out, Spartans. All right. Back for the last 4 minutes and 45 seconds. It's Arnold, Matthews, and Daniels only goal scorers for uh Melrose this quarter, and Spartans are held scoreless so far. See if the Spartans can put a couple up on the board as they're playing down 8 to 7. >> I'm excited to see what comes out of this timeout. >> Mac Whitter ball with the ball coming out of the timeout. Coach

Cal sure drawing up a play. Mac Whitter brings the ball up on top. As it looks like the Spartans and the Spartans will be playing a little two-man with Matthews looking to pick up the extra player if one of them were to get by. Spartans sending in a slew of girls. Nothing there. Mac Whitter kicks the ball all the way up to Kylie Marino. Kylie Marino gets the ball taken away. And for the third straight time, Melrose comes up with a a big stop. >> Mhm. >> I don't know who that is. Matthews with the ball. >> Yep. >> Matthews over to Daniels. Daniels finds open Healey. It's getting dark now, so I really can't see that far side of the field. You can, too? >> Yeah, I >> Oh, that's right. You used to

wear >> I had the rec specs. >> Yeah, yeah, you had the Kurt Rambis spoggles. >> Yep. >> Love them. I'd bring them back just to I'd run around with those just to have them. >> We'll see what I can do. >> Do that when you go to Tufts. Play a little intramural basketball with the spoggles. >> They won't even know what hit them. >> They won't know what's coming. I love it. I I'm looking forward to getting a picture 4 months from now with you wearing spog >> Yeah. >> spoggles and rec basketball. Love it. >> Mhm. >> Ball goes all the way out to Arnolds. Arnold looking to good work by Byron. Arnold with the ball again. >> Under 3 minutes now, so >> Downs with the ball. She kicks the ball over

to Matthews. >> Spartans need a stop. >> Yeah, at some point they're going to they could just pass the ball around. Cuz I mean you could with a 2 and 1/2 minutes left and McKechnie knows that. She plays a tough tough defense. >> Now McKechnie knowing you got to double up, make something happen. >> As Matthews turns around and goes in. Matthews turns around, finds the open opens Matthews. Arnold Arnold finds the open Matthews to put the ball in the back of the cage. And Bel Rose takes a 9-7 lead with 2:24 left in the game. You never want to see the other team score, but if they didn't if you don't play up on that, then the other team they're just going to pass the ball around and eat out the clock. So I

mean it's really tough to give up those open seams, but we could turn around and win a draw as now they're changing up the draw. Mac Whitworth taking it once again. >> And we've seen a lot of fantastic things happen in a short amount of time this season, so >> Absolutely. It's girls lacrosse. >> Yep. >> You can score a a bunch of goals in a short amount of time. >> Mhm. Another big draw here. They're all all big draws, but this one especially. >> Yep. It's big as ever. >> So Whitworth and Matthews? >> Whitworth and Matthews, yep. Whitworth Matthews doing a good job. I mean it was pretty even earlier on and then Matthews was winning a lot of the draws, but not winning them like that. Just >> Getting them. >> They're

getting them, yeah. Daniels with the ball, kicks the ball all the way up to Matthews. Now you have to This is what we're talking about. You really, really have to pressure whoever has the ball. You can turn around and let them go in, but she's She's not even going to look to take a shot. She knows that the clock means It means more. Find the turn around wide open. Julia Gray with the save. Who is it? Burns comes up with it. Burns turns around and fires the ball up. Get her out of bounds. Melrose comes up with the ball. The Spartans will have to do that all over again. >> Great play, just unlucky there. >> Daniels with the ball. Got to Got to pressure the ball. Got to pressure, pressure, and stay up on

top. Spartans really need to force a turnover right here. Like we said earlier in the game, Melrose Melrose was really, really sure with that ball. >> Yep. >> Hannah Eddy giving a little bit of pressure. McKechnie turns around and knocks it loose. Whitworth comes in. >> Yeah, that That ref's not going to let anything slide for the Spartans. 47 seconds left. The Spartans down by two. Melrose looking to just eat up the clock. Ooh, that's dangerous into the middle. Yeah. Ball gets knocked loose. See Arnold had that. Could have taken a shot and was in off. >> And it looks like as if Melrose will will be advancing to face Hingham in the sweet 16. Bose, great to have you here with me once again. Good luck next year at Tufts. But more importantly, I

would like to say thank you to Sabina for giving me a great four years of high school sports. >> Yep. >> Goodnight everyone.
