001Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to East Long Meadow High School, where today on this Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock, we're going to have a treat for you. It's not the Red Sox versus the Yankees. It's not the Celtics versus the Lakers. It's the Lancers of Long Meadow facing the East Long Meadow Spartan. It's Lancer against Spartan for one of the top positions in the Suburban League. Uh, East Long Meadows coming in at 5 and one. Long Meadows at six and zero. So, I'm here joined by my teammate Johnny Martin. >> This is going to be an awesome, awesome game, Denny. We've got two of the premier teams in Western Mass, cross town rivals. So many of these girls uh compete with one another in the summer, go to camps together. Uh, this is going

002to be an exciting four quarters of field hockey from Spartan Stadium, and we are just moments away uh from opening possession. But as you said, lot of the line tonight. Two of the most competitive teams in Western Mass. Both extremely well coached, very talented, lots of depth, and uh this is going to be a heck of a game. So, thanks to everybody for tuning in. We got a packed house here tonight to support these kids, and it's going to be a great night for field hockey. >> Yeah, I think tonight's going to answer a lot of questions about this Spartan team. Um they've they've really played well this year, and uh you know, John, like how well are they going to play against the pressure? Um Can they hold up? Uh, we're going to find

003out in an hour and a half when this thing closes out. But we're going to start out. Abby man's going to back pass it to Grace Guy here. Matty Ser's taking it down the far end of the field to the 40 yard line. >> And you know, these these games are always great to have early in the season. Uh there's a strong likelihood these these kids are going to see each other again, but um really really important to get off to a good start. This is this is undoubtedly going to be a really competitive game. >> Yeah, it really is. So, we have Long Meadow Ball at the 15 line. Long Meadows dressed in their white uniforms. East Long Meadows in all red. Long Meadows be going from left to right. East Long Meadows coming

004in from right to left tonight. So, Kendall Reed's about to inbound here as we get going. Kendall Reed looking for an open person. It's going to go over to Ava Pelgro. going to be intercepted by Long Meadow down the right hand side of the sideline. Makes a move down to the 50 yd line. Gets by Gangling. >> East Long Me in a little bit of trouble early here. Uh let's see if we can't make a play down on our end and clear the ball. >> Al Bailey came in there and stopped that play cold. So East Long metal ball going to be coming out at the 15 yd line. Lang with the shot over to Matty Sos on the far end of the field at the 30 yd line looking for somebody to push it

005up. We got a Guile just going to push it down the sideline. Obstruction call there. So it's going to go down to Abby man. Abby man's going to take it across the field around the 25 yd line trying to move it in towards Long Meadow territory. I think one of the keys here too, Denny, uh before you run out of breath, and I know you probably could go for 15 minutes consecutive, but um one of the keys here, I think, is going to be, you know, don't get wrapped up in the hype of a of a game of this magnitude early. Play your games, settle in, trust your teammates, and know that if you do what you've done all year long, and trust the person next to you, things are going to be okay. But

006I just wanted to give you 20 seconds to catch your breath because I know once you get going, uh it's difficult to stop you. So, uh, floor is is yours. >> Well, I thank you for that that quick break, John. >> My pleasure. >> But it looks uh we going to have 12 minutes and 40 seconds on the clock here. I don't know. It appears East Long Meadow has had the ball down in the Long Meadow side uh for the majority of this quarter early. >> That's a great look across the field to Grace Guy. >> Grace Guyle trying to get it to Matty SS. Sky on D. >> That ball's going to go out of bounds. Denny, I don't think touched by East Long Meadow. It looks like it's going to be East Long

007Meadow possession or >> it's going to be East Long Meadow possession coming back on the far end of the field that she's going to inbound it around the 25 yd line. >> So, yeah, I agree with you. I mean, it's only a mid we're in the midway season uh of this year and I think it's important just come out, play your game. Don't play out of your game. Do your job and see where things fall because win or lose. Uh I'm sure coach Reed is gonna have some >> That was a great great I'm sorry to cut you off there. Great defensive attempt by East Meadow. Footfall there going the other way. Ella Bailey with a great interception there at midfield. >> Bailey oneon one with the goalie in the zone. Reverses her thing. Grace

008is going to struggle for the ball here in the zone. That's going to be a corner number one of this quarter. But, you know, here's where you'd love to see, Denny, here's where you'd love to see. We had a breakaway there, uh, as a as a novice, but who's watched enough of this game. When you have an opportunity to shoot, less stick handling, more shooting. The only way to score is to shoot. So, I'd love to see an immediate pass and shot on that down there. But great job nonetheless by Islam Meadow. It's going to be a corner. >> We got Ava Pelro, Matty Sos, Kendall Reed, Abby, and Grace on top of the circle with Ella Bailey inserting it on the left hand side of the goal. Waiting the whistle here. Let's see where

009she's going to go with it. Bailey inserts to Grace Guy. Grace Gish off to Kendall Reed. She's going to shoot it. Blocked by Long Meadow. Still has the ball in another corner. >> You know, John, I think it's really important here uh how many opportunities you're going to get against this Long Meadow team. Let's see how this young team uh performs here and uh really cashes out on the opportunities given to them. So far they've had this is their second corner. Grace Guile's going to inbound it. Waiting the whistle. Grace's going to inbound it. >> Another great opportunity outside the circle back in over to Grace Guy. Grace Gile's going to try to get it in that zone. Defender going to knock it out and that's going to be a ball coming in. >> So

010two opportunities. Long Meadow showing some good defense there. I think again just sticking to the game plan, trusting your teammates, continuing to work the ball, make good passes, don't try to play outside yourself. Let the game come to you and good things will happen. >> Okay, that just went off Grace Martin's foot at the 35 yd line. It's going to be long me ball trying to get it off their side of the field. Can insert it just missed it. Grace Grace Martin trying to get to it. >> Let it go. And it's a smart play there. Smart play by Gwen Gastina. Let that thing go. She's a sophomore. >> The way gonna come out. >> Julia Gray is going to slap shot it up. Reed line heading over into long metal territory. >> I mean,

011you talk about putting it on a dime. What a great job by Julia Gray. >> We've got a long metal player that lost their stick. Kendall Reed capitalizes driving towards the net. Great line trying to get it in there. Long meadow defends. Ella Bailey's got the ball in the center of the field. >> Grace Guile struggling with the ball with two defenders and another corner early in this game. John, >> that's three corners uh with a little under nine minutes to go in the first quarter. The more we get, better opportunity we have to capitalize. >> I think that's good. You get the butterflies out of the girls stomach here. Get a little confidence going. Keep it down there and uh we'll see what happens. Looks like we've got Pelgro Reed, Mattie SS, uh, Grace

012Guy, and Abby Man, and Ella Bailey's gonna insert it. We got Julia Gray and Grace Martin in the back to back them up. Ella Bailey waiting the insert here. Ella Bailey is going to go out to Grace Guy. Grace Guyle over to Mattie Sel's going to lift one towards the goal. However, Long Meadow defends slap shot out. >> Great clear by Long Meadow. >> 17 coming down. Now we're on the Meadow side down the near side sideline. Going to have a race to the ball here. Number five. Number one closing in front of the goal here. >> What a save by Emma >> and out. >> I don't know if that was was Julia or Emma that got a pad out, but either way, great job. Great job by the by the Esau Meadow defense.

013>> I believe Julia Gray got a piece of that. She was standing on the right post and Emma Mau was standing right there waiting it. So Julia Gray is going to inbound that ball coming down to the 50. Dangerous call. Dangerous call there. Okay, so Long Meadow is coming down to East Long Meadow side of the field now. They're on their 30 yd line. Long Meadow resets it at the 45 yd line trying to get it in. Matty is going to take it on the far side up the field to the 50 trying to get it to Grace Sky over Long Meadow Defend. tell you one of the things that you can see right away here, Denny, is that these are both teams that know exactly where to be on the field. They communicate well.

014They play together. Uh and this is going to be a seessaw battle back and forth, I think, all night long here. These are two really, really good field hockey teams playing against one another. >> It is. That's going to go off Ella Bailey, however, she recovers it. Going to try to get in the center zone into Abby. Abby struggling for the ball here. Ella Bailey's got it back. Okay, there's going to be long metal ball coming out. Some of the Spartan fans not thrilled with that call, but >> either way, it's going to be long metal ball coming out. >> Okay, so we are 6 minutes and 37 seconds left in the first quarter. Some promising opportunities for the Spartans at some point at uh >> what a great play by Julia. >> Ella Bailey

015follows it up. Tabby Mian's going to try to get it over to Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed with the reverse play coming outside the zone trying to work it in. Looking for somebody, looking for somebody. Grace Martin's going to come in and feed it over to Ava Pelgro who's just going to launch it into the zone. That's a Spartan ball. Grace Martin at the looks like it's going to be around the 15 yd line. So, we're keeping it down in the Long Meadow zone at this point, John. First quarter. >> Yeah, this has been fun. And what a benefit it is to have this monitor for you tonight, Denny. Isn't it have the monitor for you last week? You had some trouble in the first quarter. I don't know whether it was the the the natural

016sunlight or >> I did get a lot of well-wishing concerning fans out there. You were looking at me like I was having a seizure over here. I can assure you folks I just needed my glasses. So Grace Martin inbound. She's going to be inbound at the 15 yard line. It's going to go over to Kendall Reed on the left hand uh end line trying to work it around. We got a call here. Not sure what it is. It's going to be long metal ball coming out. >> Is it going to be red ball coming in? >> I don't know that we have a call yet here, Denny. Let's wait and see what happens. >> I believe it's red ball coming in. Yes, it is from the 25 yd line. Clock continues to march down. It's

017505. We're going to have to consult with our resident expert Susie Guile on that call and we'll get back to you after station identification. >> We're going to have a little treat for you folks at the end of the fourth period. We're gonna >> first time ever, John. The first time ever in LCAT history, I think we're going to have an LCAT player of the game. >> Well, I think I I love that idea, but I think before we have the player of the game after the first quarter, we should have Miss Susie Guile come up here and teach us the game so that we can do a better job. Oh, shot on net. >> Shot on net. Good play by Long Meadow. [Music] >> That's corner number four. >> It's quarter number four. We

018need to have to get one of these. Uh 4 minutes and 23 seconds left. Looks like we got Jalt, Ava Pelgro, Ella Bailey is going to insert it. Looks like we have Grace Guile, Kendall Reed, Julia Gray in the back as well as Grace Martin and Abby man on the right hand side. Let's see what's going to happen here on this opportunity here to score. had four of them so far. Ella Bailey waiting a whistle. The Long Meadow players having a problem with her mask. And now we're ready to go. Ella Bailey's going to insert it. Insert it to Grace Guy. She's going to take a slap shot. >> Is Ball still alive. Grace Guy is going to lift it into >> Dalt's got it. >> Another opportunity for another corner. Denny. >> Okay. Keep

019if we keep the pressure on, good things are going to happen, Denny. Right. Keep the pressure on, good things will happen. Great job by Esau Meadow. >> Keeping the pressure on, getting some confidence. Like we talked about, we got a young team out there and uh you know, in a moment we'll talk about the sophomores. I know we talked about the freshman, the seniors, and the juniors. We're going to talk about those sophomores when we get a break. Help is going to insert it on the right hand side of the goal. Now, Matty Seros over to Grace Guy. Grace Guy is going to take that ball to the top. Looks like another corner and I think that was an obstruction. However, the ref >> let the play go for some time. >> I'll tell you

020one of the things that's encouraging here D is that constant pressure in the zone resulting in corners and you have to imagine right something good is going to come from one of these here pretty soon. Yeah, I mean this is number six, I believe, John. >> And in quarter number one, two and a half to go in quarter number one. We've got six opportunities. >> Spartan. So Kendall Reed's going to take a shot on goal. >> Not sure about that call. >> Maybe dangerous, but >> again, if we could get Susie Guy to keep a notes uh of the questions we have, uh maybe she could fill us in in between quarters here. >> Well, she's down talking to Father Wayne or our beloved St. Michael's parish here in East Long Meadow. She's a little

021busy at the time. We'll get her up here at halftime and consult. Grace Martin's going to take the ball towards Long Meadow. Going to inbound it on the 48 yd line. Looking for an open player here. And East Long Meadow looking good early. Looking good early. Grace Martin folks are sticking there. Going to play a little defense here. >> One minute and 54 seconds left in the quarter. just hits it outside and it looks to be Grace Martin's going to hunt that ball down and insert it at around the 30 yd line. So, what a beautiful day here again. 67 degrees again on a Tuesday night here at 5:00. >> It's a perfect night to play. >> Perfect night to play a great great midseason game here against cross town rivals. Gracie G moving it

022up to the 30 yd line. Look for Max trying to get it into the zone. >> Denult on defense. >> Long Meadow coming for Sue at the 25 yd line. Dalt Denalt trying to get that ball. It's going to go off her foot. And Long Meadow's going to have the ball to 45 yd line. Backs play for a reset. Reset at the 30. Ella Bailey almost came off of that. >> What a great reaching in. I see slung metal ball. The ref's going to have >> That's not going to be slung metal ball, Denny. That's going to be long metal ball coming out. >> Okay, long >> fraction called on on G. Not sure what it was. Looked like uh great stop to me, but nonetheless, uh call's gone the other way. That's going to

023be a foot foul against Long Meadow on the inbound. And uh hopefully Springfield, excuse me, Esau Middle maintains the last possession of the quarter. Great dump by Julia Gray. 26 seconds left in the quarter. Abby man coming down the far sideline. Continued play. He slung a ball. Gracie picks that ball up. Lifts it into a long metal player. No call. >> The call is here. Long >> there. That was a trip I think on >> by this inbound. Denny's going to take us to the end of the quarter. >> Okay. Two seconds. One second. We got quarter number one is finished and Long meadow looking good out there so far. >> Pretty much I think you know before the game as we were talking and talking to coach Reed and uh members of the team

024really what we expected. We expected a super super competitive game between two really good teams. I I'm always amazed at uh the athleticism of these these student athletes. You know these kids do not stop. I mean yes there there are whistles throughout the game but it's an immediate restart of play. And so these these kids are going for 60 consecutive minutes, short breaks between the quarters and the half, but uh they're going to battle for the next three quarters and it's so much fun to watch. >> I know. I mean, I sat next to you during the Simsbury Enfield scrimmage. What a difference between the scrimmages that we witnessed in the last two games here. These kids are I tell you got some good speed. >> They seem fast and smart at the same time.

025>> Yeah. And I to your point uh it's it's so much fun to watch the progression that they make each and every time they play. I think that's indicative of uh not only good coaching, but it's indicative of great team culture. These girls care about each other. They push each other to get better. They hold each other accountable. Uh and it's fun to watch them game after game continue to get better uh and to lean on one another and and to grow together. That's what high school athletics is all about. Uh and this team exemplifies it. They're they're a ton of fun. I remember when we started this journey so many years ago, I didn't know a thing about the game. Um, and to watch it now, to watch how far these girls have come

026is really a lot of fun. >> Yeah, it really is. And, um, you know, they were out here Saturday morning at 8:30 in the morning practicing. >> And talked to a couple of the players. They said they had a really good practice. >> You know who else was out here Saturday morning, Denny? At 8:30 working out. Uh, I was. And you know who was supposed to be out here on Saturday morning working out? Uh, you were. >> Uh, no. >> Yeah. No, you were. Uh, >> absolutely not. >> But you didn't show up. >> Yeah. Well, I mean, I can't see the field without my glasses. Workout's not going to do me any good at this point. So, >> you had no problem making the tea time on Sunday morning. >> Well, that's easy. I

027got a cart. And by the way, a great victory by Johnny Martin. Uh, >> we did. We did. We did take him out. We did take him out yesterday, which was great. >> Yeah. So, let's start quarter number two here. And uh let's We have coming in. We got Reed, Guile, Bailey, Abby, man, Greta, Langden, Grace, Martin, Denald. Who's that? Gray and Gasparini going to start the second quarter here. It looks like Reed Man and Grace are going to be up front to start. >> You know, and Denalt are going to play midfield here. Grace Martin in that Spartan. I gotta tell you, I think the the key to this game is uh Grace Martin in that Spartan position is gonna have to really navigate the defense. So, we're going to start it out. East

028Long Meadow Ball Denol trying to navigate through a player here. Going to send it down warning against Long Meadow. Denny, while we have a minute, I think it's worth talking about how solid Emma Mau has been in the net as well. I mean, you've got a kid as a freshman who has been so solid back there. She, what an athlete, what a competitor. Um, it always makes you feel good to know you've got a really, really good goalie. >> She really has had a good season. Only 32 saves on the year so far. >> Wow. >> I was not expecting you to have that stat. You You just get better. I mean, you are like a a sharpened sword. >> Not only not only do I have that stat, I have her predecessor who we

029had Natalie American goal for four years. What a great career she had. She's up at Plymouth State University. 50 saves and has started all six games. >> Isn't it unbelievable? That senior group last year was just special. Just special. What an amazing group of women. Uh miss them, love them, and and so many of them watch us from afar, too, to support their uh their teammates here. It's really special. >> Great group of kids, but this Spartan team is trying to find its own identity. They graduated 12 seniors last year and tonight's going to answer a lot of questions. I don't necessarily think it's a a bad thing to lose and I don't really think it's a a bad thing to win. Whatever happens, we still have the rest of the season to work on

030it. We're going to Long Meadow on November 1st in Long Meadow. So, it's it's going to be a really good learning opportunity tonight for these girls. Abby Me trying to play some defense down here. It's down to the Spartan side of the ball and it's going to be cleared. Looks like Gwen Gasperini is going to take that ball out. Hand it over to Grace Martin at the 15 yd line. Grace Martin looking for somebody that's open. He's going to send it over to Greta Lang. Just Mr. dismissed the stick. He's exactly right. And it's going to be Long Meadow possession. >> Uh for the first couple minutes of the quarter here, the uh possession is certainly favored Long Meadow a bit, which is in contrast to to the first quarter of play where we really

031do dominated uh possession for the majority of the the first quarter. So, let's see if we can't capitalize here, get the ball back, and start to put some pressure on that long metal goalender. >> It appears that Long's going to reset. style cutting up trying to get that ball just outside her reach. How Matty going to get that ball at the 40 yd line on the far end of the field. Give it to Gracie. What a great look. Great look to Kendall Reed's going to insert it. She's got it over to Abby man. There's a struggle in the zone >> seven I believe. Denny first of the quarter, seventh overall. >> Seven corners and John this is going to be a great opportunity. Once again, they're going to have to learn how to finish these

032opportunities. Uh, you know, I mean, there's only so many you're going to get against Long Meadow. Denos, Reed, Guile, and Ella Bailey's waiting the whistle. He's going to insert it from the left hand side of the goal. Ella Bailey getting ready. Inserts it over to Grace Sky. Sky's going to take the ball. Make a nifty move over to Matty >> S. Great save by Long Meadow goalender. And another corner for Eon Meadow. >> Okay, >> what a game. What a save. >> I only have so many fingers on my hand to count the corners. This is number eight. >> This is number eight. Number two of the quarter. Number eight overall. >> Okay, >> what a great exchange down there in the by the Long Meadow goal. Great save by the Long Meadow defender. And

033just like that, East Long Meadow has the upper hand once again. So, Ella Bailey is going to switch sides here. She's going to take it on the right hand side of the goal. Ella Bailey to insert the ball. It's going over to Gray Sky. Misses Grace Guy. Julie Gray to back up here. It's going to send it back into the zone. Gray Sky >> have a great opportunity here for a shot. >> A reverse shot there by Denalt. However, Long Meadow comes up with it in the corner. That ball's going to be cleared and it's going to stay Long Meadow ball. >> Okay, so they've avoided eight corners. >> That's exactly right. >> 0 0 here in East Long Meadow. 10 minutes and 15 seconds left in the half. Long Meadow has the ball down

034at their 15 yd line. East Long Meadow is really putting a lot of pressure, a lot of pressure on Long Meadow. Matty Ser going to reverse herself. Come bring it back. She's going to be looking for an open person. Denal inserts it into the zone there. Matty Ser again with a really nice touch out to Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed trying to make a move here. Makes three moves. Long Meadow defends. Denal comes up to play some defense. Does get the ball in possession. There's a struggle for the sideline down there. That's going to be a foul on Denal. >> Love the aggression and effort on on the part of Denalt there. It's going to stay long metal ball. >> Long metal back to the 25 yd line. Resetting it. Ella Bailey just missing it. Matty

035Shar's going to pick it up. It over to Denal. Den's going to look down the field. Long Meadow is going to look to play some defense there and get it out of the zone. >> Long running. >> Really nice play. >> Slow Long Meadow down just a bit. >> Insert. What a great player. What a great play by Gwen Gasperini. >> Outstanding. Outstanding play by Gwen Gasperini. Great defensive stop for East Long Meadow. It's going to be East Long Meadow Ball. Outstanding job by Gwen Gasparini. >> Perfect lead into the sophomores that that contribute to this team. Right. We got number one Kendall Reed. John Kendall Reed. >> She's actually number four, but I knew who you were talking about. >> Number four. I'm sorry about that. Yes, you are correct. So, East Long Meadow

036trying to come down there. >> Speaking of Reed possessing the ball right now, looking for an open two players trying to get it by a third. Gives it up down there. However, Long Meadow recovers and kicks the ball out. >> Okay. >> Long ball at the 30 yardd line coming out. So, he got uh three 10th graders in this class. Kendall Reed number four, John. >> Yeah, I knew that. Uh I was I was correcting you, remember? Maybe I need my class. >> You're keeping track of a lot. You're doing an amazing job up here. You can't possibly be expected to remember it all. You know, >> Long Meadow making a move on the right hand near side down the 20 yd line. Centers it. >> Oh, Julia Gray as always coming up with a

037good stop for Elon Meadow. Tenacious down there on defense. It's going to be a foot foul. Elon M ball. >> Okay, >> Julia Gray is always around the ball in the defensive zone. That kid is as sure as the sunrise for this team. She's awesome. Love watching her play. >> That defensive backfield consisting of Greta Langden, Gwen Gasparini, Grace Martin at the Spartan position, and Julia Gray are going to have their hands full tonight, I believe, unless East Long Meadow can keep it down there like they have for the past quarter and a half. Matty Sails trying to come up with it. Ella Bailey on the far side. >> There down to the 20 yd line. Grace trying to get to it. >> It's going to be off Grace's foot. >> He missed that one,

038Denny. I'm gonna tell you right now, the official missed that one. That was clearly off a Long Meadow defender's foot. Nonetheless, it's his long metal ball. >> Ella Bailey at the 40 yd line trying to play some defense against Long Meadow. Julia Gray running for the ball at the 40 yd line. >> Julia Gray again defending >> Grace Martin with a really nice play on the right hand side. That should be >> it's going to be long metal ball off the stick of a long metal player. >> Nice job by Gracie Martin down there to make a good stop for the Spartans. >> 6 minutes 35 seconds till 0 score here. Spartans have had eight opportunity corners. >> Greta Langden's going to come up to there and we get a long metal ball at the

03940 yd line going with that one. >> Not happy with that. And what is that? A dangerous shot. Is that a dangerous shot out there? He's long metal ball. Ava Pelleigrina waiting on the sideline to substitute. Not sure who's going to come out. Langdon's going to take the ball to 40 yardd line. Look for an open player here and restart the play. Lift it down to Abby Mian. Abby man's going to work the ball. Long Meadow player. Bailey trying to get through Long Meadows asserting themselves. asserting themselves into this this zone. Eastong Meadow right now. >> Oh, nice getting it out of there again. >> Sophomore Denz trying to get it to Ella Bailey. However, Long >> and Julie Gray just gets it out of there trying to get it to Kendall Reed. However, >>

040just off her stick. >> So, Long Meadow is trying to work down here. Five minutes left in the half. >> It's going to be a battle, Denny. It's going to be a battle. One of the things I I I don't love and I know Coach Reed doesn't love is sometimes we we uh in our haste we dump uh >> it's going to be a corner for Long Meadow. What I was saying is sometimes in our haste we try to clear the ball in the middle of the field in front of the net. As you know in any sport that's a no no. You want to try to clear to the edges. But uh regardless, it's going to be Long Meadow's first, I believe, their first corner of the game with less than five minutes to

041go uh in the second quarter. >> It is. So, we're going to wait. Long Meadows waiting to insert the ball from the referee. >> Long Meadow into the zone. >> We're going to have >> towards the goal. >> Got away with one there for East Law Meadow. >> So, we escaped that >> rifle. shot just wide right of Mau. It's going to be East Long Meadow Ball coming the other way. >> You got to capitalize on your opportunities when you're playing against Long Meadow. Eight to one in corner. Get up. Aa Pelgro's coming in for Matty Sos. Long Meadow at the 25 yd line. Left hand mark. >> Excellent. Gwen Gas. >> Gasparini trying to get to it. Ella Bailey there. Long meadow inserts it. It's going to be a goal for Long Meadow. So

042we talked No, we have no call yet. We have no call yet. It looks like the officials are going to confer. >> Don't know what's going on out here. >> Do not know what's going on. >> I don't believe that ball was touched by an offensive player >> and we'll figure it out now. The reps are at the yd line. So, it's a long goal. >> All of that uh to ultimately decide that is a long metal goal. As it stands now, Denny Long Meadow one, Esau Meadow Zero. Less than four minutes to go in quarter number two. >> You know, just goes to show you in this game where we've dominated possession. Eight corners. Uh all it takes is is one shot. >> That's all it takes. We'll see how this Spartan team responds

043being down. Uh they were down in Frontier uh I think it was last week and they came back with a goal in the fourth period. Um what you want to see the kids is continue to hustle. Just just insert that ball and play your game. >> Got a battle here. Meadow's got a battle. How do you respond to a little bit of adversity? Right. >> Grace Martin with a really good defensive play. There's three minutes left in the half. Long meadow ball >> and they are on the gas right now. >> They are on the gas >> trying to capitalize with with a goal and and they are pushing the tempo for sure. got metal ball there. >> Okay, it's going to be interesting. We have three minutes left. >> Grace Martin's going to take

The Long Meadow side the last half of this uh quarter. Yeah, you know >> with a shot just outside >> it has to your point Denny I feel like uh the tide the the energy and momentum has shifted just a little bit into Long Meadow's favor where they have controlled the ball in our end for a good part uh the latter part of this second quarter for sure whereas it was really all East Long Meadow throughout that first quarter although not being able to capitalize on the corners hurts. Um, you can tell Long Meadow's got a certainly a change of energy and tempo here as we end

045the first half. >> Happens. Ken Reed trying to get it up. However, Long Meadow there. Number 15 for Long Meadow bringing it down to the center just outside again. >> East Long Meadow >> for East Long Meadow. Now, just a collective deep breath. Settle down, right? 046The nearby pass down to the 35. >> She's going to dump and chase here. >> She's down at the 10 yd line. Gives it over to Reed. Reed's going to center it over to to Denalt. Denalt is going to get a foot foul on Long Meadow just outside the zone. So, it's not going to be a corner. No reason for East to rush here. Plenty of time on the clock. One minute to play in the half. >> Kendall. >> No reason to rush. >> Kendall Reed trying to find somebody in there. >> And does >> a corner for East Long Meadow. They're going to have to move here with less than a minute to go in the half. >> That was Abby that forced that corner over there. Kendall Reed got it between two defenders.

047>> Important to remember regardless of what the clock shows, you cannot end the half on a corner. So either way, this corner will play out uh through its duration, whether either a goal or it clears the zone. So regardless of what the time says on the clock, Denny, this corner will be played out to its completion. >> Yep. We got Jal Pelgro, Reed Guile, and up front. Ela is going to insert it here. Inserts it to Grace Guy. Grace Kyle's going to lift one in >> and a goal by Gray Sky. >> One one tie here with >> a shot by Grace >> in the second quarter >> to make it 1-1 with 12 seconds to go in the first half. >> It only took nine times, but they got one. >> What a shot

We're looking at a 1-1 tie here with East Long Meadow Spartans against the Long Meadow Lancers tonight in this suburban showdown. >> Brother, can we just talk about what a great half of field hockey that was? Back and forth. I mean, we had so many opportunities. This is going to be a fun fun second half, >> right? So, I'm hoping that coach Reed said, "Hey, that was a great first half. You had nine corners. Continue to play your game. Things will pan out." Looks to be uh for the Spartans. Reed, Abby, man, Guile, Ava Pelgro, Denalt, Bailey, Grace Guile, Greta Langden, and Julia Gray. Gasperini.

050You just said something there Denny I think it's really important is uh what was the message at halftime and to your point you hope it's hey keep playing keep playing your game because in many ways you know we dominated the first half of play and uh trust in yourselves trust in each other and keep keep playing your game >> absolutely >> Grace Martin trying to get it over to Denal it's intercepted by long meadow going to try to move it down to the zone to the 20 yd Grace Martin poking in. Ella Bailey has got >> late corner call there >> off her foot. So that's going to be a long metal corner to start us off in the second half. So we're going to see how this half uh you know I think that

051the first half is everything that we expected. John um pleasantly surprised by how many opportunities me had. >> Um >> yeah, totally agree. Uh we're starting the third quarter here with a with a corner, but uh I I completely agree with you. Lots and lots of opportunities in the first half. And as you said a couple minutes ago, I think you were you were exactly right. Keep playing your game. >> Oh, that's off Julia Grace knee. Still plays on. >> What a save by Emma Mau. >> Save Emma Mau and a goal for Long Meadow. >> And an early goal to start the half for the Lancers. Okay, so Long Meadow scores with 13 minutes and 35 seconds off a corner. >> That that goal came off a initial tremendous save by by Emma Mau

052just not we were we just weren't able to clear the zone there. But um two to one start of the third quarter here at Spartan Stadium and it's going to be East Meadow Ball. Let's see if we can't regroup and capitalize here as we go. >> Abby man's going to take it back to Grace Guile who's going to try to poke it up to Abby man. Abby man battling at the 45 yd line. You know, let's hope that the Spartans hustle. >> You know, I mean, these girls hustle on every game. Uh let's hope that that can that come into effect here. Denalt's going to slap one down the sideline. However, Long Meadow's right there. Denalt trying to play defense. Gray Sky is going to take a near side sideline. Going to come down to

053the 50 yd line. Going to try to insert it. However, close off a long metal player. >> Julia up through two defenders. Jul line looking for somebody to give it to makes a move on the play going over to Nor Dalt and it's going to be East Long Meadow Ball. That is kind of far for me to see. So I'm going to go to my monitor here. >> Well, you know when when the color commentary started to fade in that that last sentence there makes a move to and then kind of faded away a little bit. I figured it was a was a vision issue, but uh nonetheless, here we go. >> Long Meadow with a breakaway here. >> A really nice play by Grace Martin trying to play defense here at the 20 yd

054line. Long Meadow putting it into the zone. It's a corner. Corner number two. There's 11 minutes and 58 seconds left on the clock here. And going to try to score in corner number two against the Spartans. Going to be really really important here to take some of the momentum away from Long Meadow to get a stop here on this corner. Uh get a good drive down to the Long Meadow end. >> Let's see what happens with the Long Meadow insert outside the zone here. It's going to bring it back. It's going to be a shot on in the middle. number 10 trying to get it in and a goal by Long Meadow. >> Doesn't look like it. >> Wait a minute. >> Doesn't look like it. >> Did not score a goal. He's going to

055take it off the >> There's going to be some sort of infraction in the zone. It's going to be East Long Meadow Ball. >> Oh, we got controversy on this rivalry tonight. That's 2-1 lead by Long Meadow. That's a big big big over to Grace Sky over to the 50 yd line. He's going to take it down. Try to feed it down to Abby. >> Foot foul. >> Pelgro's going to take that ball. We're on the Long Meadow side of the field at this point. Long Meadow having up to the 50 yd line. Looks like Grace Martin's going to call for a stick infraction here. East Long Meadow trying to hold off the Lancers. Julie Gray down low. >> Excellent job to Denalt. on with the ball. Passing it up to Abby. Abby man just

056missed her stick. >> Got to be there for Bailey's going to come in and take that ball. >> Got to get a good push on the net. >> Ella Bailey down to the 10 yd line in the zone. Makes a move >> and that's going to be coming in. >> Really nice move by Ella Bailey there. >> She's a special young player for us, Denny. Uh we have an opportunity here that we need to capitalize on if you're East Long Meadow. Okay, Gray Scout's got the ball in the circle. He's going to try to work right. Pelgro with a shot. Bailey. Long metal ball. So, Long Meadow's going to hit the ball. Looks like a Pelgrino on the right hand side at the 30. He's going to bring it down to the right hand side.

057Grace Guile's going to take the ball >> off a long metal foot. Grace is not going to waste any time in a corner. Center that ball. I don't know what that infraction is, Denny. I just know that it's coming the other way. >> As do I. So, we're just going to say Long Meadow Ball. >> And that would be true. >> 9 minutes and 22 seconds left. It's 21 Long Meadow lead. Long Meadow is going to take the ball at the 20 yd line. It's kind of off the nearby sideline. Looks like Okay. Looks like Long Meadow ball again. Slap shot down. Julia Gray over to Martin. 058into East Long Meadow territory down to the 30 yd line. Miss go through a defender here. Emma Mau with a save coming out to Greta Langden. Langden's going to try to get it to Mattie SS. collision out there. Ella Bailey, it's going to be long metal ball. Just missed it with her stick. We got Eong metal ball, >> double whistle. >> As we start the ball here in the second half, Denny, you you will notice, I think, that uh it just has to be more on these passes from from our girls from East Long Meadow. Um, Long Meadow has come out ready to

059play to start this half and uh, we need to match this tempo and energy. >> Looks like Long Meadow's got the ball down at the 25 yd line going towards East Long Meadow at this point. Got a corner >> for what? >> Uh, I believe that was for uh, Kendall Reed. Uh, too close too close to the inbound uh, player. >> That's what I believe. probably totally wrong >> perhaps. But it looked to be well outside the zone. So, uh I'm not sure, but not either way, it is it is going to be a corner for Long. >> Corner number three for Long Meadow. Uh let's see what East Long Meadow uh comes up with here. It's going to be outside the zone back in the zone. It's going to be a shot on outside

060off a Long Meadow stick. East Long Meadow avoids avoids a goal. Only seven minutes left in this quarter, John. any thoughts on the uh the game so far? >> Yeah, I I think the the biggest thing I noticed here uh in the third quarter is just as as we've all seen, Log Meadow came out uh really high tempo, obviously had a uh some adjustments made at halftime and came out firing to start the second half. Uh it's taken us a few minutes to settle back into our groove and do what we do. I feel much better now about about how we're playing and moving the ball as we get into the latter part of this third quarter. So, I I go back to what we talked about before, you know, stick to our game plan,

061do what we do, uh, and trust that good things will happen. This is, listen, we're not playing a slouch team here. We're playing a very, very good Long Meadow High School field hockey team. And, uh, we're going to have to match that if we have a chance to win. And this is exactly what you love to see in high school athletics. We love to see great competition. So, let's compete. >> Let's go. And we've got Grace Martin with a clear. Long Meadow's gonna bring it back in from the 30 yd line. Ella Bailey's going to take the ball. 062zone with a reverse shot. >> Long metal ball. >> All right. That's That's some tempo. that medal tempo, really good push, great outlet pass by by Bailey. Uh and so these are the things that we're looking to see more of as uh as we progress here through the uh through the rest of the game. >> Long Meadow making a move here. >> Let it go. Let it go. >> Gwen Gasperini lets that ball go. >> Very smart play by Gwen Gasparini knowing the long metal player couldn't get to it. It's going to be a ball coming out. Julia Gray's gonna insert it. It's a long metal 40 yd line. Ella Bailey trying to play defense. It's going to be an infraction. Julie Gray battling. Bailey counting and we got looks like a long meadow ball

063just outside the zone at the 4 minute and 51 second mark here in the third quarter. Long Meadow leading two to one. Long Meadow trying to make a move in the zone here. Looks like a corner for Long Meadows. It feels uh Denny, I don't know about you, but this quarter feels reminiscent of the first quarter. The difference is Long Meadows now benefiting from a lot of time in our zone and as a result capitalizing on on corners. Same thing that happened to us in the first quarter. So, just a bit of roll reversal here and let's see if we can't get a stop and get this ball cleared. >> Let's see how much resiliency this song metal team can come up with here. Long men's going to take the top of the zone, set

064it up, just missed the pass. 15. Julia Gray's on it. Julia Gray's poking at the ball and her stick work again just missing. >> Just a tenacious tenacious defender. She does such a great job for us down there. >> Tried to outlet the ball unfortunately went out of bounds. Uh it's going to be I think it's going to be long metal ball. >> You know, in any event, >> oh, it looks like uh No, looks like it's going to be East Long metal ball. >> All right, Matty Ser's going to take that ball to the 15yd line far sideline. They're going left to right. Matty's looking for somebody. Ella Bailey's going to come up with that ball at the 40 yd line. Work towards the middle. Make a nice move towards the left hand side.

065Abby man trying to get it to her. Like Matty Ser's going to stick that ball in the middle of the field. Trying to get it to Grace Skyle. Goes around Matty S. They're on the far sideline. Long Meadow is really pressing the issue. Mammara lets it go in. It was shot outside the zone. So, I'm not sure. >> Yeah, I believe it's going to be Eastong Metal. >> Yeah, really smart play by Emma Mau. She knew it came in from outside the zone. Uh going into the back of the net like that is essentially the same thing as it going out of bounds. It's going to either way it's going to be East Metal Ball. >> Kendall Reed going down the far sideline looking for somebody trying to get it out. defended that play very

066nicely. Ella Bailey's going to recover at the 40 yd. Try to work the middle of the field. It's going to feed Julia Gray. Julie Gray is going to make a move up the middle of the field trying to He got a long meadow ball trying to push it into Long Meadow space here. Julie Gray with a slap shot. >> Big A. Abby man. Oh, just tried to get it to Gracie Guy. Pelgro is going to take it from the near side 20 yardd line down the sideline. Feed it to Grace >> Guy just off her stick. >> It's going to be Long Meadow ball, I believe. And it is. >> Reed is questioning that call because he thinks it went off a long meadow defender before it went out of bounds. Uh referee says no,

067it's going to be East Long Meadow ball coming out. That's what Coach Reed is frustrated about down there. He was certain that that ball went off a long meadow stick. >> 1 minute and 42 seconds left in the game. Julia Gray over to Bailey. Bailey's looking for somebody. Got Kendall Reed on the far side of the field. Kendall Reed trying to work it in the zone. >> Matty Sos can't come up with it on the far side. >> Long meadow. >> Oh, that could be. Yes, it is. It's an East Long Meadow ball heading back on a foot violation. East Long Meadow has a little bit of juice going on. There's 13 seconds. Well, 1 minute and 13 seconds left in this quarter. Getting trying to get a little momentum in this game. We're down

068220. So, Long Meadow's going to have the ball at the 20 yd line. Long Meadow's going to lift that ball over to the 40 yardd line. I don't know how that it is a dangerous play and East Long Meadow is going to have the ball to 40 coming back towards Long Meadow. Coming down to 42 seconds on the clock trying to make something happen. Grace Martin over to Bailey. Ella Bailey trying to play some defense here at the 45 yd line. Long Meadow Grace Martin on the left hand side. Julie Grace going to get that ball at the 20 yd line. Try to make a move outside. She's got two defenders on her. Hands it back to Gwen Gasparini. >> Oh, right in the >> That's okay. It's going to be an Eastong Meadow ball.

070the sideline. Try to work the sideline. Al Bailey comes up the 40 yardd line. He's going to push it forward into Long Meadow territory. Abby man playing defense out here. Kendall Reed going to bring it into the 25 yd line to Abby Man trying to get it to her. It's going to be East Wong Meadow ball over to Grace Gule in the zone. Grace Gule in the zone struggling for the ball. We got a corner. right out inside the zone. So, one minute into play. East Long Meadow corner. It's a real good opportunity for the Spartans. Looks like Bailey's going to insert it. We got Abby man, Grace Guy, Kendall Reed, Matty Sos like Nora Denalt waiting the whistle here. 13 minutes and 50 seconds on the clock. Bailey's going to insert it to Grace

071Guy. Grace Guy is going to lift one in off Kendall Reed. Another corner. Corner number two. Okay, this is a good opportunity. We talked about it. John will be back in a minute. He's got to sign some autographs behind the stands here. I don't know what's the hold up, but he'll be back in a minute. This is opportunity number two. Bailey to insert awaiting Coach Reed's play. Whistle. Bailey inserts it to Grace Sky. Grace Sky is going to take it in. Long Meadow defender right there and clears it. So, it's going to be East Long Meadow Ball at around the 15 yd line. I got a couple texts uh wondering why I was the only one on the microphone. >> Very concerned people >> because you just shut my mic off. >> Well, I don't know how to work any of those buttons. Okay, Long Meadow's going to insert with an opportunity to go up two goals here at 12 minutes and 9 seconds. Let's see if the Spartans can defend. >> Long Meadow inserts it outside the zone back into the zone to the right forward. She's going to try to dribble it in. She's going to lift a shot and I believe we have interference. Long Meadow voids avoids a goal. So, good defense there. And what time do you think time is going to become an

074issue here, John? 11 minutes left in the game. >> Yeah, right now, not not at all. But to your point, uh, as you know, these quarters go by very quickly. So, we need to get a good drive going here and hopefully capitalize with a goal, >> you know, and I believe uh Okay, that's going to be a long metal ball coming in towards the East Long Meadow Field. Dela Bailey's going to take that ball up by the 30 yd line. Takes it off to Gracie Guile reaches out. He's looking for Abby. Shot in goalie. >> Looks like that's going to be coming in from the 25 yd line. That was that was a good exchange. >> It was a good exchange. We had a good shot on that and uh another chance to get one here. So to your point earlier, you know, maximizing the time here. Got to keep it down on the Long Meadow end. Uh got to be really precise with the with the ball here and try to avoid things like that. Ella barely recovers, dumps it back into East Long Meadow. Okay, we got a corner. That ball is outside

And while we take a time out here, uh I just want to recognize some of our, you know, this program has brought some really good players to the New England area. And as they go on to college, uh they come back and visit often and see how the program's going. But the program really started to get off in 2022, those seniors on that on that team. Uh Olivia Rob, uh she had an unbelievable reverse pivot shot that I I haven't seen anybody doing any better. >> Yeah, I I I'll take your word for it. Uh >> you know, I wasn't

082here to witness it in 2022, but but I will take your word for it. >> Right. I mean, she's at Franklin Pierce currently playing women's lacrosse. Uh just a great person, a great leader for the freshman. My daughter was a freshman at the time and just took care of the girls. Positive energy. One of the other seniors, 2022, was Caitlyn Gibbons. She was a great defender on the right hand side. Steady, positive person. She's currently at University of Massachusetts. Made the Eisenberg. >> Right on. Bright kid, great student athlete. Uh, and again, we talk about it all the time, but just a great culture here for East Lo High School Field Hockey. And when you build a great culture in the youth program and these kids come up here, it's contagious. Winning is contagious. Team

083culture is contagious. And so these kids recognize they're part of something special. And they're also uh part of a really competitive winning program. And those two things are a great recipe for continued success. >> Yep. And the last player or captain on that team was Lily Sterning. Unbelievable defense. She's currently at Springfield College. >> Well, greatest institution on planet Earth. Well, she's studying political science and criminal justice. So, we wish them well and thank them for their service. Long Meadow is going to start with the ball on their side. Moving it up to the 30 yd line. Matty Ser right there going to bring it back to the 30 yd line. East long meadow ball. Put it back to the 30 yd line. The referee says we got six minutes left. We're down by a
