001Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We're here at East Long Meadow High School 7 PM tip off. East Long Meadow Ladies Field Hockey Team versus the Yagawan Brownies. East Long Meadow coming in here in a 4-1 record and coming in at one two one and one. Tonight's uh contest should be a tough one for the Spartans. Awam comes into this contest. They lost to Long Meadow last week by one goal. Tied Frontier East Long Meadow coming off a victory on Saturday against North Cicero Syracuse. Won that one 6 nothing. I'm going to hear you here with my friend Johnny Martin. >> Daddy, great to be back. We had so much fun in the last game uh this past Saturday with our girls in the girls from Cisco North Syracuse. Excited to be back with you tonight.
002Should be a great game. >> Should be a great game. Spartans going to have the ball at the 40 yardd line. Moving it up just out of bounds. Awan bringing back number three Kylie Brema. Ella Bailey at the 45 yd line moving up. >> Ella, Ella picking up right where she left off. The girl is just a little spark plug, man. She's all over the field and is going to be so special here for the next four years. >> She is Awam carrying a ball up to the 45 yd line. >> It's going to be a foot foul uh on East Long Meadow. It's going to be Awan Ball D. And I think we have to take a minute to acknowledge who in my opinion uh is the greatest running back in the history of
003East Lo High School. We're joined in the booth by class of 1994 alum, career center adviser, dear friend, and in my opinion the greatest running back that has ever played at Esau Meadow High School, Mr. Markini. >> It's got to be Mark Macarini from Trinity. He went to Trinity College running back over there, bringing the spirit of the Spartans with him to Connecticut. and a good good man >> and a good man does a really good job here. We got Matty Sales working up towards the 50 yard line. John, what are your feelings about tonight's game? >> So, uh I I you know, I think it's going to be a tough tough contest. Uh I'm hoping for a really competitive game. U and and we love it when we can watch good competitive high school
004athletics. This is going to be no walk in the park. Awam is an outstanding field hockey team. Uh well coached. So this should be a great game. Um, >> absolutely. Awam coming in here with eight seniors and five juniors. Coach Nina Bruno in their third year, 2021 graduate of Keen State where she was a former player there. Really uh has brought this team uh continually continually getting better year by year. >> No doubt. and and our coach here, Coach Dan Reed, also an Eastlon Meadow High School alum, Western New England University where he was a hockey player and and here at the high school, coaches the field hockey team, the men's ice hockey team, and the lacrosse team as well. Super involved with the lives of these kids. >> Absolutely. So, we got an Eastong
005Metal Ball at the 39 yd line. >> Great look there. >> Coming out to Avery Pelgro. Ella Bailey coming up the middle making a move to the 50 yd line. Agawan receives the ball here. Avery Pelgro to the 50 moving it down the sideline to Matty Sos. Ella Bailey stepping in. So not too much going on here's 11 minutes and 40 seconds. Awan just clears the ball to the East Long Meadow side. >> That ball's going to be out of bounds and Spartan ball. Denny, >> well, and I'm glad that that you cleared up your contract negotiation so you could make it back here with me tonight. >> It's an honor to be here. Uh thankfully, uh I wasn't asking for a lot, nor were they offering a lot. So, uh it's great to be
006back out of the goodness of our hearts and the love of these kids. Uh >> that's great >> to do a really really bad job announcing their field hockey games. But we We are having fun nonetheless and hopefully they are too. >> Well, I can tell you that I'm no Gil Santos and you're no Gino Capetti, but if you're looking at the field though, East Long Meadows moving the ball from right to left. Awam's going to the left to right as you look at your radio dial. Hell Bailey down the right hand side at the 35 yd line. Looks like Gray Skyle over >> potential opportunity here for East Lame if we keep it in the zone. ball is still live. >> Grace G fighting for it in the corner. Awan ball. >> That's that's
007the one thing, Denny, that that uh our our girls did a phenomenal job of uh last Saturday against um North Syracuse is uh man did did we control the ball and time of possession in the zone resulted in some great shots, multiple corners. Um so hopefully we can have some of the same tonight. Awam with a breakaway. Emma Mau coming out. Emma Mau clears over to Eva Pelgro trying to move up. Awam keeping it in the There's a great play by Ella Bailey coming up on the 35 yd line. >> Emma has been so solid in net, hasn't she, D over the course of the last uh four games. Yeah, I think she's got about uh I think the number was uh 38 saves on the season so far. In the right hand side there
008be Kendall Reed moving up from the 40 down towards the AWA AW side. Ella Bailey fighting for possession. It's a song meadow ball a closer the 25 yd line moving in Kendall Reed from the re trying to reach a guy just outside I want ball so I know last week we talked about the freshman on Saturday talked about the freshman we talked about the seniors let's talk about the juniors here we have three outstanding juniors >> yeah I think uh all the way across the board. These kids are uh have been wellprepared through youth field hockey. Last year, as you know, we were senior laden team and this year we have to count on kids from every class across every single class to contribute. Uh strong junior class this year, but I think all of
009the classes bring bring athletes with them that are going to contribute soundly to the program. I'm most impressed, honestly, Denny, we've talked about this. I'm most impressed with how the freshman have stepped up and acclimated to varsity level sports. It's been awesome to see. >> Yep. We got Awam coming down to the 20 yardd line moving it in. It's going to be an Awan ball 20 yardd in Abigail Man. Matty Ser's moving on the left hand side. Some news Spartan ball. Don't know if he's going to have him move it back. He is slow start here. Eight minutes to go in uh period number one. But uh I I think in many ways this is going to be a game of back and forth. Two very very good teams. Uh neither one is going to
010give an inch. And I think this is going to be a really tough game. It's going to be a good good field hockey game. >> It's going to come up to who has the most opportunities in the zone. We got >> Easton Middle. >> We're going to wait for confirmation on that. And just like that, as we're talking about the slowness of the game, >> we got an East goal. >> Looks like we're going to have Abby May on the goal. >> Assist by Grace Guyle. We got a one- nothing score, John. Early 744 in the first quarter. Good start for the Spartans. Okay, that's the start we need. >> Well, just like that, Daddy, we were talking about how the game was off to a slow start and then bang, right away. Quick shot
011on that and metal goal. >> Yeah, I mean, we're going to keep it down there. >> We are at one with seven minutes to go. And if we could put pressure on this team now, I mean, okay, we're going to bring it back here. Ella Bailey is going to bring it back to the 25 yd line. Grace Guy is going to take it in. Gray Sky looking pressing. >> Looks like maybe a push. Aan ball Denny >> could be. Yep. Down the right hand near side faran pressing it to the left. >> Julia Gray outstanding job. She's so consistent down there for East Meadow. Game in and game out. >> It is Grace Martin trying to push up the left hand side just just outside >> just out of bounds. >> You know Grace plays
012that Spartan position. She's got to play all over the field. And she she really she brings it. >> Ella Bailey with a steal here. Going to break away to the 25 to the 20 yd line. >> 10 dishes it off to the outside. >> Just >> outstanding save by the Aam goalie. Live ball. >> Let me see what we got here >> coming out. Awam. >> Great breakaway and great pass by Ella Bailey. Nice save by the AAM goalie and it's going to be >> it's going to be Spartan ball coming in from the 25 yd line. Okay, >> so the Spartans look good here early in the first quarter. 5 minutes and 33 seconds left in the first quarter. Grace Skyle. >> We got a corner. >> Corner. First corner of the night. >>
013First corner of the night. We got a one zero lead. Good opportunity for the Spartans to score here. >> We capitalized on so many of those uh opponent Denny uh from North Syracuse. So, a corner, first corner of the game, first one for East LA Meadow with five minutes to go in quarter number one. >> Looks like Ella Bailey's going to insert the corner. Ella Bailey getting ready. Coach Reed looking on. >> Ella Bailey's going to insert to Gray Sky. Sky dribbling it out and then Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed has a taken away. >> Got a threeon two here. Oh, great job by Matty Surles in the middle. It's going to stay Islam metal ball. Excellent play. Kendall. Whoa. Couple of high sticks there. Goes in the favor of Islam Meadow. Okay, that's >> great
014stop >> down there. >> Not sure what that call was, Denny, but looks like it's going to remain ball. >> If you're just tuning in with us, there's four minutes to go in quarter number one. This is Tuesday night women's field hockey with Islam Meadow leading Awan one to nothing. It's going to be a foot foul D and it's going to be Awan Ball. Looks like we'll get a substitution. Nor Dalta is coming at left mid. Okay, Aan ball. Grace Guyle takes his right hand side. Abby man just can't get the handle on the stick. It's going to be Aawan ball coming out. It's going to be Julia Gray forcing the issue back into a territory. It's coming back. So, >> it has been a uh for the most part, Denny, wouldn't you say a
015very even battle so far in the first quarter? Um, I would say more opportunities for East Long Meadow, but uh, uh, you could tell Awan is is a very, very good team, and I expect this to be a great game tonight. >> Yeah, I mean, we jumped out to a one zero start. There's three minutes left. East Long Meadow has the ball >> with another potential opportunity here. That's going to be a foot foul D against Meadow and that's going to be a Spartan ball coming out. I think Nor Dalt's going to inbound here at the 45 yd line. >> Absolutely beautiful night for field hockey. Great crowd here at East Meadow Spartan Stadium. >> Really is. Uh, and it is youth night. So, you're going to be able to see some youth come right
016out on the field. It's a big deal for those kids. It's what this community does so well with the youth in the field hockey program. Grace Martin with a fantastic shot at 35 sending it towards AA. However, Awam, I'll tell you, they are they are playing the Spartans hard. Majority of the time spent down there. Now trying to push the other way in the center and that's going to be wide. It's going to be wide Spartan ball coming out. >> Okay, we got 1 minute and 49 seconds left for uh >> in quarter number one. >> Quarter number one, you know, and coach Reed, you know, focus on play each quarter at a time. >> Don't worry about anything else. Great guy with the flip. Awamp trying to get it down. >> Drive opportunity here
017for a >> moving in. Julia Gray battling for the ball. We got a whistle. >> Spartan ball. >> As you know, Denny, I'm a big fan of Julia. I love her style of play. >> She's she's one of the one of the three juniors that we were just talking about. >> Great junior leader on this team. Consistent. Uh works really really hard and always around the ball in her zone. >> You know, they've been a part of this this program now for three years. Clara Petite, Julia Gray, and Grace Martin, the three juniors on this on the Spartan team. You know, >> who do we got? Abby Abby Man struggling for the ball and does get possession. Julia Gray going to lead the ball up the outside to Grace Sky. Grace Sky struggling with that
018ball. There's 32 seconds left in the quarter. Abby man down the sideline. Abby man inserts it to Matty Serl centers it. Awam however intercepts it. >> Less than 20 seconds to go. Denny in quarter number one. Okay. Nor Denalt here with a pass to Matty Ser. Matt Syd moving in. >> Oh, inserts it to Ella Bailey. struggling. Arsenal >> just missing it. Plant gets two defenders here. >> And that'll take us to the end of quarter number one. >> Okay, so quarter number one is done. We got a one zero lead. That's a that's a good win here for for the Spartans in the first quarter. This really looks like a seasoned team out of Awam. Like we said, they just lost a long metal, one of the powerhouse in Western Mass by one point
019and they tied Frontier. who the Spartans actually lost to 4 to2 earlier last week. >> Yeah, I think I think one of the the things as we have a minute or so here in the break of the quarters is >> we got some visitors coming in here from the Yagawan football team who had a great victory Saturday football team who had a victory Friday. >> Oh yeah, absolutely. We're going Okay, start of the second period here. We got a one zero lead. Spartans Grace Gule up the field trying to get it. Ala Bailey on the left hand far side's going to go out. Spartan ball here. I know this was one that uh this was a game, Denny, that they had marked on the on the schedule for sure as being one that they anticipated
020to be a very very tough game. Uh and I think as they progress through the season, you know, we have to prepare for these tough games because ultimately we're we're every game uh gets us closer to game ready um as the season progresses. You know, it's a grind for these girls. There's lots of games to play and you got to make every quarter count. So >> yeah, I mean this is a big test for this team. You know, it's the it's the suburban league here containing Long Meadow. Nor Denal trying to get it in the middle there. >> Grace Martin coming in moving it down. >> Move it down to Nor Denalt with an inside move. Trying to get it. Ella Bailey in the middle. >> Just can't get it to her. Ella Bailey struggling
021in the middle 20 yd line. It's going to be East Long Meadow Ball. Ella Bailey is going to pass out to the right hand side. Looks like Ava Pelro trying to get that ball. Awam getting it out. Northern coming in. We got a whistle. Looks like a foot foul on East Long Meadow. Ref's going to have her put it down at the spot of the foul. Oh, Ava Pelina with a she >> I'm not sure what that call was there, Denny. Either way, results in ball. We're going to inbound. Try to get in the zone here. >> You know, when we talked about that, just keep it down here in the zone. >> Give yourself a chance to score just outside. Looks like I've got an East Long Meadow corner. >> Yeah, I mean, as
022as as you know and as we all know, place to get shots from is in the zone. So, the more we can keep it down there and put pressure uh on the Awam defenders, uh the more likely we are to get some quality shots on net. Hopefully, that results in some Spartan goals. >> Yeah, as we talked about before, uh the corner is a really big play in field hockey. Gives you an opportunity to score. Looks like we got Denal, Pelleigrino, Reed, Guile, Martin in the back, Abby on the right hand side. El be inserting it. Great opportunity here for Islam. Let's see if we can capitalize on this corner. >> Ella Bailey inserts it. Grace Sky going to take it outside. Slap shot in. >> Another corner. >> That's another corner. It's off number
02322's foot, it appeared. So, we're going to do it again. Okay, let's get our play in there. Coach Reed sends his play in. Let's see if he changes it up or keeps the same thing. We don't know. Again, the corner >> consists of four players coming out with the goalie. >> That's Grace Guyle inserting it to Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed back to Grace Guy. Grace Guyle centering it in the middle. Almost coming to Abby man. >> Third consecutive corner. >> So, third consecutive corner. >> This is uh Denny. is reminiscent of what we saw at some points in the game on Saturday where we had, you know, consecutive corners and uh were able to capitalize on some of them and and let's hope that's the case this evening as well. >> Yeah. So, uh Ella
024Bailey is going to insert this time. We got Pelgro Reed Denalt insert. Gray Skyle outside the zone back into the zone. Hop Kendall Reed with a shot. A Pelgro still having play with it out. Not sure of the call yet. >> Looks like it's going to remain some meadow ball. >> Looks like it's going to stay at the 25 for the Spartans. So, we're still down this zone. Oh, Kendall Reed's got it on the left hand side. Dribbling down the end line looking for an opening. Got Denal. Denalt. Denalt coming out to the 20. >> Grace Martin just can't stop. That looks like Olivia Gavone down there. >> Very nice pass. coming down making a charge. Greta Lang on defense there. Ella Bailey says, "No, not on my watch. Not on my watch." And brings
025it up the field. Kendall Reed coming to the 40, 35, 30. She's got Abby Man down there. Abby man circles out. >> What a nice move. What a nice move. >> Kendall Reed, Ella Bailey coming into the coming into the zone here. It looks like Grace Sky battling on the right hand side. She's going to win that battle down the end line. Here's her move. She's going to try to insert it. And another corner. That's corner number what? Four this quarter, John. Four. >> It is. And and even even better, what I can tell, Denny, is based on the from the first quarter to the second quarter. The assistance we had to give you a monitor right in front of your face has allowed you to actually see the game. So for those of you
026that were concerned about Denny in the first quarter, that concern was warranted. Okay? He could not see anything. So what we did here is is one of the awesome LCAT folks literally brought him a monitor that is 6 in from his eyes. And so now he can see exactly what's going on out of the field. >> I can It's too long of a walk to my car to get my glasses. So I decided to set up a monitor up here in the booth. >> Looks like it's going to be another corner of football. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. This is corner number five, John. >> This is quarter number five, >> I believe. So, >> let's get let's get uh let's get a goal here. Spartans, looks like we got Pelgro, Denalt, Reed, Guile, and Abby man out
027there. Alaba the insert. Grace Guy on the outside of zone's going to bring it back in. Kendall Reed with a shot. Denalt out front >> just missing. Ava Pelino, >> but a good opportunity, a good good sequence of events down here. The Spartans really keeping it down here, John. >> Awesome opportunity for East Law Meadow there. They had four or five opportunities and uh you know, this is a game where when you keep getting them, something something's going to pop for you. So, really good job down in the zone. Unfortunately, didn't didn't convert to a goal, but uh great exchanges down there nonetheless. >> Greta Langden on the right hand side, one of our senior leaders taking it taking it outside. Good defensive play here. >> Great stick handling by >> gonna cross over to
028Ella Bailey. Ella Bailey. >> Denny, I'll tell you, every time I watch these young freshman out on the field together, I get so excited about not just this year, but the future of the program. These kids are going to be really, really good as they progress through this program. >> Yeah, Ava Pelgro just gave a great pass to to Grace Guy down the sideline. Really nice play. And we're keeping it down at their end. We're keeping it down at their end. And there's 7 minutes and 55 seconds left in the second quarter. We have a numerous numbers of opportunities down here for the Spartans. >> Absolutely beautiful night out here for these kids to play. Really well attended game. Great to see the student support, the families come out for these kids. >> Well, like
029I said before, tonight's youth night, so the kids for the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh grade are going to be coming running out on this field at halftime. It's a big deal for them being under the lights. really a nice thing for the community to host. Okay, so it's going to be Grace Martin to inbound at the 30 yd line. Really keeping it out here. And Julia Gray 37 doing her thing at the 40 yd line. Bringing it up to Greta Greta Langden number six. She's gonna she's going to place that ball down at the 43 yd line. Going to come over to Grace Martin. Grace Martin has just been solid. Just solid all year long. And Julia Gray with that stick work she has moving it into. Looks like Oh wow. Sirill's Grace Martin on
030it. Chasing a coming down the right hand side. That's going to be off the Den's foot, but playable down to the 50 yd line. Grace Martin coming across midfield. Matty S trying to get a handle on it. Not sure which way that's going to go. >> I tell you, yet again tonight, we just see some great teamwork from East Meadow. Great communication out on the field. Kids playing positionally really, really well, giving themselves opportunities to move the ball, get it in the zone, and uh so encouraging just to see how well they to play and let's hope that continues through the next you know two and a half quarters just under the sixinute mark here in quarter number two is still up one to nothing trying to press it down to the 35 yd line
031goes through the through the legs down the sideline struggling with that ball's going to come up with it Bailey right there >> yes she is >> not in this house don't come in my house on the sideline She she is one of the quicker Spartans out there. Gray Skyle has the ball at the 50. Moving it down the end line. Just going to go out. Awan ball coming back I believe. Nope. Spartan ball. So, five minutes left to go in the second quarter here, John. >> Yeah, it's been uh as always a lot of fun to watch and a super competitive game. Just the way we want it. >> Really great. Just witnessed a JV game come up with a a tough three-2 loss prior to this game. five eighth graders on that team. It
032shows uh up and coming future Spartans had a really good game. It just came up a little short. >> Grace Martin down the left hand. >> Oh, going to give it to Kendall Reed coming down to the 1012 looking for somebody. Two AWA defenders on her. He's looking for Abby Man. He's coming down the end line here. >> Great hustle play. Great hustle play there by Reed. That's going to go out. >> Awan player does a great job of keeping it >> really saving Langden >> stays Aan ball opportunity here for the Brownies. >> Yeah, it's going to now uh >> Eastlong Meadow Ball. >> East Long Meadow Ball. Matty Ser on the right hand side gets picked by number nine there. >> Brownie starting to take a move. Denalt's going to take it out.
033>> All right. He slung metal ball coming out around the 10 yd line. Going to actually move that Langden tries to slap shot up the middle. However, Aawam sitting it in there. Amamau coming out. >> It's going to Oh, favorable call there. have a chance to clear it from the zone >> and make a push here with a little over three minutes to go in quarter number two. >> Co are really playing hard on both sides. >> Yeah, as we said before the game started, we knew this was uh had the potential to be a back and forth battle all night long. >> Awan pressing pressing late in the second quarter here with three minutes. Denal on the 20 yd line going to try to move it up the sideline and does moves it down.
034Really nice Kendall Reed down the left hand side. >> What's our call here? What's our call? Kendall Reed. >> Got to go five yards. Warning Awam to get off the player for five yards. Got to give her five yards. >> Coach Reed is arguing that's at least the second time they have. So that should result in uh a man up situation for a player up situation for Islam. But that was not the case here. That's why you hear coach Reed so vocal on the sidelines. He thinks that was at least time and there had already been one warning. So, we'll see how that plays out as the game >> that's two. I'm not sure if it directed at a particular player or the team as far as the warnings go, but yeah, man's going to
035take it up the middle here and try something. >> Matty stabsel to Abigail Grace Guy in pursuit on the far end of the 10 yard line. >> What a nice play over there in the corner by Grace Guy. >> Gracie moving it in. Awan moving it up the far end of the se Grace Martin absolutely not in her side. >> It's going to be a foot against >> Okay, 1 minute and 59 seconds left. We get out of the half with a one zero lead hopefully here. Ella Bailey's going to inbound it here. Looking around for an open player. >> So great to see a young player like that not rushed, take her time, find the open player. You don't often see that in young players that get wrapped up in the speed of the
036game, but she's she is so solid. >> She she she really is and and you know, this is going to be a tough game here. This Sagaw team really has shown up. Nina Brun has done a great job with this team the past three years. I think they lost in the semi-final to Long Meadow last year and the team's been getting better uh every year since he's been a coach. So a a tough task here for for the Spartans. Julia Gray with a reverse. >> What a nice pass. >> Ella Bailey on. Tenacious little girl. That is number 13. >> Okay, we get an opening. Aan pressing >> Greta Langden. >> Where she belongs says not not on my watch down here. Okay, how much time we got? 50 seconds left. Awan pressing Ella Bailey
037up the field. >> Abigail. What a great pass to the back to her. >> Great teamwork by Eon Meadow under the minute mark here at Eastan Meadow. We have an opportunity with 30 seconds to go. >> Inserts it to Denal. Denal to Abby. >> Really good scoring opportunity there for me as we end the half here. 20 seconds left to go in the half. One Spartan lead. We're here 67 degrees on a Tuesday night. Is there any other place you'd rather be? 7 seconds left. We're going to end this quarter at half actually with the Spartans 1 Z. Not sure if I'm going to have time enough to go run and get my glasses. Well, I don't know that you'll need him now with the special monitor we brought in for you, but what a
038great great first half. Back and forth. >> Really great first half of action where Esau Meadow leads one to zero. And we'll be back after the half. >> We'll be back after the half. Okay, we're back here at East Long Meadow High School with the Spartans leading one- nothing girls field hockey on this Tuesday night here at youth night. >> Man, we we could not have asked for a more competitive half. One- nothing East Meadow going into the third. As we said from the beginning of the game, Denny, this was going to be a tough one. This is going to be a tough one. And has lived lived up to that expectation. Yeah, it really has proven uh to be a competitive contest here. Uh the Spartans have a number of uh corners which have
039really been in their favor. Awam. Not too much. Awam's going from left to right. Awam's going right to left. Awam starts out the ball on the right hand side of the field. We got a foot foul. Awam is going to inbound the ball at the 45 yd line. Looks like Kendall Reed is going to start it on the 45 yd line going in towards Agawani on an Abby man trying to work through two defenders. So important too when you start a half I think in any sport you know so important to get off to a hot start and uh man you really really want to capitalize on the goal that you had in the first half and really get off to a hot start. So hopefully that'll be the case for East Meadow here as
040we start the second half. >> Now we had Ella Belli moving it down the left hand side through defenders >> down in their zone corner number one second half with with 14 minutes. One minute into the half we got a East Long Meadow corner. Looks like we're gonna have Guy Sars Reed Abby man Ella Bailey Grace Martin Spartans huddling at the 15 yd line coming up with a corner play. Coach Reed sending in the play. Seems to be a problem with the mask. The A1 players have their masks on now. They go ahead and dawn their masks getting ready for the play. The ref says, "Let's go." So, Bailey's getting ready to insert. >> Another great opportunity here to start the half for me with a >> Bailey inserting on a left hand side of
041the goal. Just going to insert it over to Grace Guile. Grace Guawan player looks to be down. Hopefully, she's okay. >> Temporary stoppage of play. We have a downagon player off the corner. >> You hate to see that and that's why they wear the mask. Hopefully she's okay. >> You know, I got to tell you, John, that ball is not a rubber ball. That's an acrylic ball. So, it really really hurts when it hits you. >> Yeah, without without question. And uh let's just hope that this young lady from Awam is okay. It looks like she is. moving around down there being tended to by the trainers. Um but certainly >> yeah some of these some of these collisions that that you see on the on the field hockey field are quite violent. You know
042I've been a witness to many of them where you she's she's going to be up she's up and going to get a big round of applause and she's going to run off. Okay. So >> it looks like it's going to be AWA ball. >> Looks like she's okay, which is the most important most important part. And uh it's going to be change of possession Awam uh off a failed corner uh as we continue with the third quarter of play here. >> Okay, that is going to be Aawan ball at about the 14 yd line. Abby man trying to get through some three people here. >> Spartans hustle back to get on defense. >> Julie Gray where she is. It's going to come out to Matty Sos on the right hand side. She passes it up.
043However, it's intercepted by number 11 for Ara. It's going to go off Matty Ser's foot. >> Yeah, that one was was clear and obvious as we Okay, so Aan making a push. They're at the 32 yd line. >> Matty Sierra's coming up with it. >> Really nice play by Matty >> over to Ella Bailey through the middle. Ella Bailey trying to get by Agawan. Matty Ser recovers. >> Not quite enough on that drive from Matty, but she regains possession. >> Oh yeah, right out to Gracie Guy coming down the line to the 20 yardd line right hand side. She's got Abby man. Abby man over to Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed making a move just >> just wide of the net for Kendall Reed. >> Trying to get a hold of it with that stick. >>
044You know that stick John about three inches wide. >> So so difficult. >> I don't know how the kids do it. I really don't know how they do it. >> You have to be a >> so difficult to play this game. I know what Kendall was trying to do. She was trying to get that that ball on the stick side to get a shot. It just got away from her. Went wide left. Hopefully opportunities to come. >> The Spartan team. >> Grace Martin with the ball here at the 45 yd line. Going to inbound it. Ella Bailey coming. Awam running for the ball toward the left hand side. Julia Gray almost had it there. Not quite. >> Brook Dwire inbounded for Agawan. >> Shot on. Strong shot going out towards the end. >> It'll be
045>> wasn't touched by >> Spartan ball. No, it was not touched by anybody. >> So, we still have a one zero lead. 1021 left in the third quarter. Julia inbound it looks like here >> with a great pass >> just outside Awan ball number 21 Caitlyn Maloney to inbound >> Kendall Reed in pursuit on the sideline here >> that ball's going to travel out of bounds it's going to be Spartan ball you're absolutely 39 yd line coming in. We're going to keep that ball on the other side here. Ella Bailey dribbling it up on the left hand side. >> Looks like she's got two defenders over there. It's going to be a call. It's going to be a Spartan ball. Kendall Reed's going to take it at the 20 down the left hand side. Okay,
046just missed it. It's going to be coming out. This has certainly been a game and the start of a half of back and forth. Some great opportunities for Islam Meadow uh but also some strong possessions for Awan as we progress through the third quarter here. Going to be a battle all the way through. I think Denny, >> it's going to be a grind. I mean, these are the top teams in the suburban league. Like we said earlier, it's a seasoned Dagawan team. Oh, we got a Grace Martin with a card. She's going to have to have a seat for a couple of minutes. No, no, no. >> Oh, I guess he reversed it. It's going to be on Awam. Grace was looking back at the ref confused. And it's number 14 coming out for Agawam.
047It's going to be Olivia Gavon. He's going to catch a couple minutes there. Not sure if it's two or three minutes. >> Thankfully, Coach Reed was was patient on the reversal of the call because he looked like he was ready to lose his mind. >> Is he okay? >> He's okay. >> Okay. Thank God. I was I was observing him more than what was going on on the field because I think he knew before we did that that was the the wrong person coming off the field initially. The call was reversed. >> Yeah. And not only was coach re uh coach Reed your daughter Grace Grace was very confused at that call. >> It's going to be player up here for East Long Meadow. And I'm going to consult with Mr. Macarini here on how
048long these these penalties are for uh violation. >> Well, I think that was >> Yeah, I think that was a roughing. Not sure about that. Grace Martin up down the middle. Ella Bailey. Ella Bailey hits it with Seros on the right hand side. He's got Grace Guy on the right hand side. Coming down to the 10 yd line. Going to center it over there. He's got Abby man. Kendall Reed with a shot >> just outside. So the opportunities are there. >> Okay. And it's a good sign that this young team is taking advantage of it. >> It's a great sign. We've had two or three great opportunities in this quarter alone. It's going to remain East Long Meadow Ball. And remember, Awam is down a player over there trying to get a hold of it.
049Super super important for East Lo when you have a player up opportunity. You have to keep the ball in the offensive end. You have to keep the ball down in the offensive end, especially when you're player up. >> Absolutely. has it down in the East Long Meadow side here. Number two trying to get it. Gasparini number five. Gwen Gasperini taking on the right hand side up towards the 20 yardd line. Trying to get it to Mattie Ser. Looking around here, it's going to be Aawan ball coming in at the 25 yd line. Probably about 45 seconds left on that penalty. John, wouldn't you say? >> I would guess right around that mark. >> They don't have a penalty clock here, so you kind of have to guesstimate it and keep the time on the field.
050>> Yeah, I would I would guess you're right. About up and uh >> look at this battle going on here between Matty >> that pen that penalty has been released any we're we're back at full strength on both sides >> okay >> whistle there change of possession it's going to be ball >> Abby man on the right hand side >> Matty is going to inbound it to Julia Julia number 37 junior trying to get it out on the left hand side we got a whistle is going to work to clear the zone now. >> Yeah, Pelgro on the left hand side looking to go outside. It looks like it's going to be off a foot, but our advantage so they keep the ball going. >> Just north of the sixinute mark here in the third
051quarter. >> Okay, and we get a one z one zero lead third quarter. >> Greta trying to get it to Ava Pelgro. A Pelgro playing on defense there. Grace Martin fighting for it on the left hand side. Two defenders coming on the sideline. Still keeping it alive on the sideline. Really nice play. Inbound. Inbound. Ella Bailey just missed. Number 11 Awam inbound it back back towards Julia Gray. Julia Gray comes out left finds an open. Gray Sky just outside. >> Just couldn't keep it in bounds. Denny. Great great attempt to clear the zone and some some great passing there by East Long Meadow. just couldn't keep it in bounds. >> So, it's a tight game so far. There's 5 minutes and 20 seconds left. Song Meadow trying to get it out of their zone. Awam
052kind of pressing this quarter a little bit here. >> Yeah, it really does look like there's been more pressure defensively from Awam in this corner in this quarter, excuse me, than we saw in the first half. I would agree with you. >> A's got the ball. Okay. Okay. What's your call there? That's a dangerous I guess. You know, that's a very subjective call. Um I guess if there's players around it, they call it a pressing here. Grace Martin, Ella Bailey up the middle here. Got two players on her. >> Really nice pass. >> You know, I'll tell you, the Spartans really do pass the ball >> well. They don't fiddle around with it too much. Coach Reed emphasizes it. Go get it. Man trying to get it. going to be out of bounds. >> The
053field is John. The field though the goals are on the goal line on a football field. So the field is 100 yards long would you say? >> Yeah, absolutely. >> And probably about I'm looking at sideline to sideline. >> It's going to be more than what a football field. >> So sideline to sideline's 50 I would say 55 yards across. >> 55 or 60 yards across for sure. >> Absolutely. >> Lot of running for these girls. They're well conditioned. They play the whole game. >> Uhhuh. is where it matters most. As we get into the waning minutes of the third and into the fourth quarter, this is when conditioning, uh, playing together, working the ball well is so, so important in tight games because so often your body tells you, "Hey, we're getting tired." And
054you just have to have the discipline and persistence to to stay committed to finish this thing. Julia Gray here. See, we got a double whistle here. So Agam is going to take the ball back to the 40. >> Yeah, I think the second whistle, Denny, was just for them to change where they're going to inbound from. >> Okay, Grace Sky coming out on the 50 here. >> Really nice play by >> She's going to go down the sideline, feed it. >> Yeah, Bailey coming on. >> What a nice Grace Martin over to Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed taking it on the left hand side. Foul on Reed. >> Got tangled up. That's okay. Really strong drive there by Agawan. >> Awan pressing. >> Nice play. >> Gwen Gasparini comes up. >> Really nice play by Gwen
055Gasparini down there. >> Absolutely. >> She's been a really solid consistent defender for East Long Meadow all year. >> Gwen Gasparini number five coming up making a key defensive play here in the third quarter. Two minutes and 39 minutes. Two minutes and 39 seconds left. We still got a one zero lead. So the game has really lived up to who what we thought it would be. We got some people going on. Nor Denalt going to clear it. Oh Nor with a move out to the left hand side. Comes back inside back outside. >> Tries to chip it out. >> What a move by Nory line. Awam recovers bringing it back into the zone. >> Good effort by Denal. >> Going to be on the 15 yd line here going in. So Awan pressing. >> Great
056job there by freshman Norah Denal to attempt to clear the ball. Work through multiple Aan players and we got a shot to clear it here as Emma Bella still staying with it. Coach Reed wanting to know what they're waiting for. >> Ella Bailey. Ela Bailey on a foot foul. >> An inbound. Awan really pressing here in the the second half of the third quarter has been down in Spartan territory. >> Denny, I don't know about you, but the level of intensity has definitely amped up in this third quarter. >> Oh, the parents are getting ugly here. >> No, it just And on the field as well. You can just feel the Intensity amp up for these girls. >> There is. You got one minute left in the third quarter. One zero lead. Awan pressing. >>
057Gwen Gasperini gets it out. We got Denalt pressing. What's our call here? >> An insert outside. I'm not sure if that went off a Spartan stick. It might be coming up. >> I'm not either. >> Let's take a look. Not either. Is >> that ball coming into the 25 or is it going out? >> Looks like it's going to be East Long Meadow Ball coming out. >> Strong drive by Julia Gray. >> The length of the field. >> Foot race now to get to that ball. Denny >> Abby man coming. >> What a great drive by Julia Gray to clear that zone. >> It's really getting intense down there on the There's about 15 seconds left in the clock here. Grace Martin fighting for it. That's going to be a high stick on Grace Martin.
058She went over the girl's head with a stick. >> We are gonna We're going to be at the end of the third quarter. End of the third quarter. Getting intense here. Stand by everybody. Don't leave. >> We're here at East Long Meadow High School with a one zero lead. Spartans in a suburban valley suburban battle between Agolon Brownies and the East Long Meadow Spartan girls field hockey. We're going to break for 20 seconds and catch our bar. You can catch yours as well. We'll see you back here. I'm ready. We are back. Start of the fourth quarter. Essental leads one zero against the Awan Brownies. What an intense third quarter that was for both teams. Hopefully we get one just as exciting as we go into the fourth. What an awesome game between the Esan
059Meadow Spartans and the Brownies of Awam High School. >> Both sides really battling here. We got 15 minutes. will decide it. We got a one zero lead with the East Long Meadow Spartans. East Long Meadows going to be going from left to right. Aan's going to right to left. Awan's going to start the ball off here. And here we go. It's on the left hand side. >> Matty Ser battling for it over >> trying Julia Gray is gonna kick that ball. >> Try to force it up the middle here. >> Denalt on defense here. Denalt stops it. Move at the 40 heading up and dishes it off to Grace Guy. Grace Guyle down the right hand side. However, Auan's there to stop it. Hits her foot, but it's momentum. A magan ball. >> Grace Grace
060Guy had the right idea there. Try to move the ball down the field. just was picked off and intercepted by an Awan defender. >> Yes, she does. Now Ella Bailey trying to come down with it. Not sure whose ball that is. That Awan ball. >> That's going to be a >> Looks like it's going to remain. >> Grace Guile is going to inbound this ball. So how many opportunities are we going to come up with in this quarter? Denalt to inbound. Denalt looking around. Denalt's going to slap shot in. >> Looks like >> possession. He slam. Reed's got the ball here. Just taken away. Looks like Reed battling for it. A slap shot out just outside of Mattos. However, I think that's going to be a Spartan ball. Greta Langon goes and gets the ball.
061She may be inbounding it here. Looks like she's going to be at around the 43. >> Didn't get all of that one. Bailey comes up with it right in between two defenders down the sideline. And the pass going to stop, reverse her stick. East long metal ball. Okay, John, I think we got to keep it down. >> Well, we got an opportunity here, Denny, as we approach Awam's zone. Ball is centered. >> Looks like Reed's got that ball battling. >> Eastl Meadow looking to keep the pressure inside. >> Looks like Is that going to be a corner for East Long Meadow? Yeah, it is. >> Looks like it is indeed going to be a corner for East. >> Opportunity awaits. Opportunity awaits. We got some members out here. Looks like members of the East Long
062Meadow Football Team is here to support their girls field hockey team in the stands. >> Yeah, for those of you that are are watching or will watch this broadcast, East LA football plays this Friday at home against Tantasa Regional. But back to action where East LA is going to inbound here off the corner. >> Ella Bailey's getting ready to insert. Ella Bailey inserts. She's going to go to Grace Guy. Grace Guy is going to take that ball inside. Reverse shot. >> What a shot. >> Just outside. >> What a shot. >> Just outside. That's a nifty move by Grace Guyle. >> How'd you like to be in front of that one? >> Well, the person closest to it was the ref and fortunately it missed him as well, but uh we would have been down
063one and it wouldn't have been a player. >> Okay, this might be Spartan ball here coming down here. >> Denalt's going to inbound. North Dalta inbound across the field over to Matty Seros. Matty Ser's going to try to get it. You know, Kendall Reed on defense here in the far end of the field. >> Really nice move by the uh Aawan player there. >> Great stop in the middle of the field. >> Denal playing defense trying to poke that ball. Trying to poke that ball. Grace Martin right where she belongs. Going to bring it up. Patience. Very smart pullback there. Oh, look at her run with the ball. What a great junior player she has turned out to be. >> Okay, that was not intentional. That's going to be Denal just off Den's foot. Tagan
064ball. >> Okay. >> Handled well down there in defensive zone. >> Yeah, we are Greta Langen coming out with the left hand side here. That's going to be an obstruction. >> It sure is. >> East ball. >> Landon's going to inbound at the 45 yd line heading into a territory. >> Okay, that's going to be Grace Martin once again. Grace Martin up to Ella Bailey. Ella Bailey makes a nice move up the middle of the 50. >> What a nice pass to the outside. >> Kendall Reed on the left hand side trying to battle number 13. There's a >> whistle on the play there. >> Whistle ball will keep the ball down there. Ella Bailey. Ella Bailey over to Grace Guy. Grace Guyle is going to take it in the zone to Denal. What a
065pass across. >> Save by the Awam defender. >> Okay. And that ball goes out. Another opportunity pressing him. >> Great great passing and ball work by Islam. Had a great shot on goal. Nice save by the Awam goalkeeper and it's going to stay Islam ball just under the 10-minute mark. Fourth quarter. Islam one. Awam zero. Another great stop by Julia Gray. Always around the ball. >> Julia Gray fighting hard in there. However, it's going to turn out to be Agalan ball. Number 11's going to slap shot across the right hand side of the field. >> That ball's going to go out of bounds out. So, we're going to keep it down at our end here at the 42 yd line. You know, John, I don't know if you're supposed to call out football yards in
066a field hockey game, but I'm going to do it just because I'm going to do it. >> Well, you know, Denny, it's it's a language that is natural and comfortable for us. Usually on a regular collegiate field there are no ball markers. >> They've put two football guys in the broadcast moves for a field hockey game. >> Look at Auan making a push down the left hand side. Grace Martin defending making some nifty moves here coming on the outside. Gwen Gasparini trying to press her. There's a whistle. >> Got a whistle. >> East ball. Got a long metal ball. Tenacious play by Gasparini sophomore. Julie Grade to inbound this play. He's going to inbound it over to Grace Martin. Matty Ser going to put it up to Ella Bailey. Ella Bailey is going to take
067it down the left hand side. >> So impressed by the stick work and passing of Islam throughout the whole season. They're not just pushing the ball up the field and push it up the field. You could tell they have a plan. You could tell they've worked on how they want to move this ball. What a plan to the middle of the field. What a pass. What a save. >> Still alive here and a >> There's a whistle back at the goal line. >> There's a whistle. Not sure what the call is. That was a really good opportunity. You know, at one of these times though, John, you're going to have to cash in on these opportunities. Awam's hanging around. It's one zero, >> especially in a close game. Denny, you have a, you know, great
068great passing by Eastlon Meadow. Uh, we had a a great opportunity to score there and hey, Awam goalkeeper made a great save. That that's what they're there for. >> Look, it's a one-sore game. Awam still in it. >> Lifted inbounds by Guy >> Abby going after that goalie's going to hit it by Kendall Reed's left ear. >> I think it's going to be a long middle corner. >> Yes, sir. >> Number two on the quarter. It is going to be an Eastong corner. >> We're talking about these opportunities coming coming often for East Long Meadow. Got a need to capitalize. Kids are playing great. Awan's playing superb, hanging around. The success of this this this East Long Meadow program, you know, I mean, we talked about the seniors last year. I can go back four
069years this program started to become successful. We lost a tough game in Arthur's Vineyard two to one. >> They've been building something here for a long time. >> I'll go over that in a minute. We got uh who is that? That's Norah Denal to insert the ball. It's going to come out to Grace. Grace is going to take a shot. >> Just off Kendall Reed's going to chase that down. >> Kendall Reed's got it on left hand >> goalie save. So that's going to be coming in from the 25 yd line. still sparking possession. >> Denny, believe it or not, we are almost at the sixinute mark of quarter number four. This is how quickly this game has gone by. And what an awesome, awesome game between these two teams. Julia Gray working the ball
070inbounds. Great stop by Grace Guile. >> Grace Guile trying. That's quarter. That's corner number three. >> So, the clock continues to run at 6 minutes and 10 seconds. We got a one zero leadan puts on their mask. Gets ready for this. Denal's going to be inserting. Look like it's going to be Bailey Gile Kendall Reed. Grace Martin in the back. Another opportunity here for East Long Meadow. Denalt inserts. Denalt inserts. Grace Kyle. Grace Kyle's got one in. >> Rebound. >> There it is. Grace Martin. Another corner. >> Whoa. Don't know what that sign is right now. >> Is that >> I do not know what that is. Every >> Yeah, it's a stroke. >> That's a penalty stroke. Like we saw in the last game, oneonone. Grace is going to take the stroke with five
071minutes and 35 seconds on the clock to take a twogoal lead here. She can do it. We've got a penalty shot here for East Lan Meadow. One to nothing. 535. It does not get any more intense than this. Guile lines up the shot. Waiting on the go ahead from the official. >> The fans are on their feet here at East Long Meadow. Waiting the shot. >> Grace. >> That's a two nothing lead for the Spartans at the 5 minute and 35 second mark on a penalty stroke by Grace Guy. What a shot by Guy to make it two nothing East Long Meadow. >> That's one opportunity that they did not let go by. John, >> what a shot. What a shot. We talked earlier about you got to capitalize on every opportunity you get in
072tight games. No greater example of that. Guy, leader on the team, outstanding player, gets an opportunity to put her team ahead two nothing. >> Smashes it into the back of the net. >> Yeah. Now, we talked about this last game. Okay, we got 5 minutes and 30 seconds left in the game. You want to close the game out. >> This highly contested game here on a Tuesday night. >> Have to stay on the gas. Have to stay on the gas. You've got to play as if it's in overtime and it's zero zero. That's what separates good teams for teams that are going to continue to get better and better and better. Keep playing hard for the next five minutes. And I have no doubt, no doubt, Coach Reed coaches them to do just that. These
073girls are going to finish. That's what they do. You know, this East Long Meadow team containing three seniors, four sophomores, three juniors, and six freshman in a battle battle in the suburb suburban league here. Kendall Reed on the left hand side. Again, you want to close the door here. Looks like Ava Pelro's going to grab that ball, but just outside Aan ball whistles. Whistles. Not sure what that stoppage was, but either way, Dennis, it's going to be Aan possession with just north of four minutes to go in the fourth quarter here. >> Okay, A 20 yd line. Going to place it up. Grace Martin coming along midfield area. Passes over to Grace. Sky just misses. Awam's going to recover. Denalt on defense there. Look at Julia Gay's stick work. Fantastic. Fantastic. >> Julia Gray is
074going Julia Gray is going to battle all game long. She is as sure as the sunrise. She is steady. What a great player for >> going to try to make an attempt up the middle here. Goes by Ella Bailey. However, Ava Pelgro is going to take it on the 20 yd line. Insert it to Kendall Reed. >> Right where she's supposed to be. >> Kendall Reed trying to get that ball in. does. >> What a great effort down the corner there by >> the corner. Let's see who wins that battle. Awam got the possession. >> That's going to be an Awan ball. So, Coach Reed in the last four years, 67 wins and 10 losses. >> Unbelievable. Unbelievable. And I I just we talked about this last game, too, but really speaks to the success,
075the culture in this town and the youth program. Uh, and there's so many so many great players that have graduated, have gone on to be student athletes, but these kids in in this town now, they they want to play field hockey and they want to start playing when they're young kids. And the youth coaches and the high school coaches, they're building something special here. It's a lot of fun for these kids. >> No, I can tell you back in 2022, they were 14 143 and two. In 2023, 163 and one 2024, 19-0 in the regular season. then lost a heartbreaker to to uh to Notre Dame I believe that year actually no lost her who's lost her three nothing we lost that game last year 18 and3 with a western Mass championship against Long Meadow
076so the success of this team you know and I could give some shout outs to some some past players >> Denny we are at just north of two minutes here in the fourth quarter East Long Meadow holds a nothing lead. Uh, and this thing, they are going to play it right to the final horn. And what a game it has been. >> Well, it's been a fun night here. We got a minute and a half to close this deal out in a shut out for for Emma Mau. >> Another shut out. >> We hope. >> Still just going to put it into Kendall Reed. Kendall Reed sprinting >> number 13 for Aan struggling. Kendall Reed with a stick in there. The girl tripped on it, but not intentional. Well, we we don't think I mean,
077who's to say? >> Didn't look intentional. >> All right, I'm going to insert. We got one minute and 30 seconds away. >> Having played a lot of hockey as a young kid with Dan Reed. Okay, there there is an argument to be made that that trip could have been could have been intentional. >> Absolutely not. Not not from Kendall. >> Well, discussion for another broadcast perhaps. So, I guess there's a minute left in this game, two nothing lead. Uh, you know, unless something outrageous happens, which sports anything can happen. We're going to have to go back to contract negotiations to see if we can do the next game, the Long Meadow game here at the high school at 3:30 on a Monday afternoon. Do you work? >> Well, we both work, but I think I
078think we may have to rearrange our schedules for that uh >> for that game. That's going to be a good one. It's a 3:30 start against Long Meadow, who's leading the Suburban League at a 5-0 record right now. That's going to be a game. If you got any sick days, probably Monday would be a good day to use them. Uh, we're going to promise not to put you on the TV. We'll keep all the fans off it. So, feel free to come on down on your sick day. Okay, we got 25 seconds left in the game here. Grace Guy taking it down to Awam. And I got to tell you, Awam is we're gonna see them again up on their home turf. That's a really good team that we face tonight. That's a really good
079hustling team. Uh Nita Bruno's got those kids playing well. She's built this team over the last three years and good things are to come. However, the East Long Meadow Spartans tonight. More opportunities and more are going to be victorious. And the East Long Meadow Spartans are now five and one. Five and one. >> Denny, it has been an absolute pleasure as usual >> and congratulations to to the East Law Meadow girls field hockey team on a great two nothing win over Ragawam High School. We're signing off. Until next time, >> we're going to see you Monday at 3:30 in the afternoon for Long Meadow. We got to redo our contracts and see if they renew it for the next game. We'll let you know. Let's >> hope they bring us back. >> Have a great
080night. Thank you.
