001Yes, it has. Uh roll call will show that all five board members are here. Uh actually Christie is remote at an airport, so she should be on shortly. And both student board members are here and will stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> [clears throat] >> All right, and we'll kick it off with Panther Pride for the Greendale Middle School. I invite Mr. Curry, are you beginning this or do you have other people? Okay. Great. Well, I invite the middle school is going to present their Panther Pride. Do we have a microphone over there for them? Yes, we do. Great. Well, come on up.

002That's fine. The one that you have in your hand is fine. Whatever you practiced is >> [laughter] >> Okay. Um Perfect. Okay. Hi, my name is Maddie. I'm an eighth grader at the middle school. I was new to the district in sixth grade and I've been at the middle school since then. I'm also the president of NJHS and I a part of the student equity team. So, today we'll be talking about some of the good things that have been happening around here at the middle school and some of our Panther Pride. So, our focus of this year and this presentation is building community and a sense of belonging because our district mission is all students belong and are empowered to learn, grow, and engage as part of a global community. Our district vision is cultivating

003excellence in every student and that's what we've been really working towards this year to make sure and with the belonging to make sure that every student feels included and safe in our environment. So, here are our student survey results from the My Sabers that we take three times a year. So, we had students answer how positive or negative is the mood at your school. We have more votes for the favorably side and that's been increasing over this year. The mood has been increasing largely due to incentives that we've been working towards for inclusion in our students and really building more community with um kids that might not have interacted with each other before. Um and then we also asked students how fair are the rules at the school. Most students have been answering favorably and

004that number has been going up over the last couple times we took the survey. And we also asked our students how connected do you feel to the adults at your school? So, we have been working towards getting to those higher numbers. Me personally, I have formed many good relationships with teachers at my at the middle school since I've been there. And um I really feel like most students might just not be working towards having that close relationship with the teachers, but when I feel like the teachers are doing a great job of trying to connect with those students and really um trying to form those bonds together. And then, how much respect do students at your school show to you? So, student to student, I feel like we've really been improving on respecting each other's

005values and differences and really trying to form that tight sense of community around the middle school with kids that you might not have talked to in the first place if they were in different grades or in different um clubs and activities than you. And I feel like this year it's definitely been improving a lot, especially for me, because of the things that we've been working towards like having our morning meetings with our class every single day, having Character Strong to go over ways to form that community and ways to manage your emotions to be kinder to other students. Um and also a lot of our like charac- or I'm sorry, um our student opportunities to get involved, which can help many students find like people that they connect with more. And then lastly, we also

006have, when you're at school, how much do you feel like you belong? Most students are leaning towards they do feel like they belong and this number has been increasing. Again, I feel largely because of how we've been working towards having those student opportunities where people can find things that they have in common with others and those morning meetings and assemblies where we can see what we have in common with other students and really form a safe space in classrooms and our community. Next up, we'll have Janelle talking about what's new this year around our school um and how that's been helping build a better community in at the middle school. Hi, everybody. My name is Janelle and I'll be talking about what's new at the middle school this year. The first thing that's been new

007this year is morning meetings. Morning meetings replaced our literacy block that we used to start the day with reading. Me personally, I love having morning meeting because we can connect with each other during the day and instead of jumping right into a book for 20 minutes before we actually start learning, we're interacting with people, having new ways to talk, and seeing what we did over the weekend. It's just a special way to connect. And another thing we're doing this year is monthly assemblies. Um it's a special way to recognize students upholding and showing Panther Pride through Panther Pride awards. Panther Pride is something that our school does very good with and that we wanted to recognize students more this year for the monthly assemblies. It's also a good way for our principal, Mr. Curry, to

008re-teach expectations, touch base with how things are going, and have fun. It's also a great thing to look out for every month. And another new thing that's new this year is having Ms. Emily Walsh as Dean of Students. Since Ms. Walsh has taken on this new role, we've seen significant improvements to our spaces. For example, a new option to go outside earlier and incentivizing students to help out with wiping down tables in the lunch room. And another space that she's helped significantly are our bus lines. What was once chaos is now calmer and more orderly. She's introduced a number of cards that each student takes to make it harder to skip in front or trade places. Ms. Walsh can be found anywhere around our school ready to help out or come up with new ideas

009for our learning environment. Next, we have Jacey talking about morning meetings more in depth. Hi, everyone. My name is Jacey. I'm in sixth grade and I'm new to the Greendale district. The morning meetings at Greendale are a great way to start the day. They remind students about the important events happening, help students feel heard, understand other students' interests, and have fun interactions with others. For example, this morning we played a game that helped others interact with other with other students that we might not connect with on a daily basis. Thank you to Jacey for explaining how those morning meetings have helped her in her school day. Next up, we'll have Olivia and Owen talking about some lunch room improvements that we've been working towards this year. Hi, I'm Olivia and I'm in sixth grade and

010some improvements of some improvements of the lunch room are a longer recess to chill and getting to go outside when we are done eating. We are more respectful to the lunch staff. A new addition is that students get to wipe down their own tables, which teaches us responsibility of cleaning up after ourselves. Lastly, we have lots of indoor games when it is raining or there's bad weather. Hello, my name is Owen. I'm in sixth grade and I'll be talking about the organization in the lunch room. The students in the lunch room now eat in an environment with much more organization. Students are allowed to leave for recess on their own time, which can teach more time management. Also, students are not called up for getting their hot lunch and this is also a bit more

011freedom. I feel that this makes the lunch room a little less loud. The voice level in the lunch room should always be a two. Sometimes that raises to a three or sometimes four. You should not be getting up except to throw away trash or go outside. I feel that these changes raise levels of energy, but still are better for us all. And thank you to Mrs. Walsh for all of these new improvements. Thank you to Olivia and Owen for going over those lunch room improvements that we've had this year. We'll have Owen continue on with talking about monthly assemblies and how those have um helped his school day. As someone who used to be commonly bullied, the Panther Pride Award in September showed me that what I do does not go unnoticed. I saw that

012my friends were not the only people my kindness affects. Additionally, it is a time when the whole whole school comes together to make magic. Also, Mr. Curry will remind us about expectations we are struggling on. I feel like these assemblies are a core part of GMS. Thank you, Owen. Next we'll have Olivia and J.C. going over student opportunities that they're involved in and others and how those can help students form that sense of community in our middle school. Some clubs that I'm involved in are Girls on the Run, National Junior Honor Society, Battle of the Books, the Equity Team, the musical, the talent show, and chamber orchestra. They all teach me courage, kindness, and perseverance. As someone that is new to Greendale, I'm very appreciative of all the clubs, athletics, and activities that are available

013to us. I personally have joined multiple of these and they have helped me feel more involved, make friends, and meet new people. Thank you, Olivia and J.C. Next up we'll have Landon going over how Character Strong has impacted his experience in the middle school and how that really forms that culture of care. Um >> [clears throat] >> Hi, my name is Landon and I am a seventh grader at the middle school and um the last thing that we have to share to you today is um Character Strong. And what Character Strong is is it takes place every Friday um for about 40 minutes and it replaces um morning meeting that we do every weekday besides Friday. And um it's something that's provided for all students sixth through eighth and um it um it changes every

014grade. So um in sixth grade we would have belonging which focuses um on creating that community where you feel like you belong and um and since the fifth graders are going to the middle school um it benefits them by making them feel like they're not alone and um like if they have like difficulties creating friends or um if they feel like their voice isn't heard. Um and I'm currently now in seventh grade and we're focusing on well-being which creates an environment where you can express your emotions without judgment and Sorry. Um And like um Maddie was saying, it helps you create that tight um community that everyone enjoys being in and for I'm not in eighth grade currently, but I know that engagement talks about um like that journey into high school and um um

015just like connecting your future um no, your past values to your future ones. And it helps you just move on to the future. Thank you. That was all that we had for our presentation today. So does anyone have any questions for any of us? Any questions? Kathy. Um thank you all for taking your time to come here tonight. Um I want to thank Mrs. Walsh, right? Um uh you don't oftentimes hear students bragging about their deans. So I think it's a really nice statement for them to talk about ways that you're trying to be proactive with them. So I want to compliment you and thank you you and Mr. Van Roo for both being here and Mrs. uh Patterson as well, Milner. Um I just want to um say that for each of you getting

016up here today, that was very brave of you to come and talk to us and share your experiences. I have a question just regarding the recess because not all middle schools in the state of Wisconsin get recess time. So how much time do you get for recess and do you feel that's a good opportunity to get yourself reset for the afternoon? I can go ahead and answer that one. I person So at lunch you go in and you can sit down, eat your lunch, and whenever you're done, we started doing this this year where you can just kind of grab clean up all your stuff and go throw it away and then you can head outside and there is teachers and supervisors out there ready with some activities like like multiple different types of balls

017and stuff like that. Um so you can really go out there whenever you're done eating lunch. So it's very self-paced. Where in previous years we only had the last 10 minutes of our lunch period for recess. You didn't have to go out if you didn't want to and that's the same with this year. You don't have to go out if you don't want to, but it's definitely very self-paced and you can um just go whenever you're done eating, which I feel like definitely gives us a sense of independence and self-responsibility in cleaning up our own mess and making sure we're managing our time and like whatever we want to do, which is really nice. Thank you. Anyone else? Any questions? I think Connor has something to say. There is a comment. Owen. Owen, sorry. Um

018I think that as just a good time to go outside because other than gym, we're just kind of sitting in a classroom the whole day. So it's nice to actually see grass. >> [laughter] >> Thanks. Other questions? No other questions for you guys? You guys did a great. Thank you. Thank you so much. All right. So next we will be moving on to communications. Uh three weekly the district has received donations that I'd like to share. Greendale High School Robotics received a $1,080.24 donation from Port CNC Inc. Chad Newton donated $300 to the GHS weight room renovation project and Greendale Youth Football donated $300 to the Reading Buddies. Thank you to those three donors. Uh and Coffee with the Superintendent will be this Wednesday, the 29th at Sugar and Flower in the Village at 8:45

019a.m. And that concludes my communications. All right. Thank you. Uh moving on to student updates. Um varsity boys golf and JV boys golf each had two meets last week plus they have their home Morningstar invite this Friday. Select DECA members Leo Gamboa, Casey Lamb, Jack Runski, and David Gakomovic are in Atlanta to start this week at the International Career Development Conference. AP exams are next week so most classes are officially in review time with mandatory AP exam information flex periods in the auditorium that are available either Tuesday or Thursday for students about rules and norms for their test days and then on Wednesday the robotic students are going to Canterbury to read stories about STEM to kids in 5K, first grade, and second grade classes. Girls soccer had two games last week, one on the

02022nd that ended in a tie with New Berlin Eisenhower and a non-conference game on the 23rd at Sussex Hamilton. Cheer and palms had an interesting meeting on the 22nd for students interested in joining next season and boys volleyball is hosting open gyms the 28th and 5th. A representative from UW-Parkside is visiting Wednesday to meet juniors and seniors interested in learning more and prom tickets Prom ticket sales end this Friday, May 1st and the application for prom court was due today. All right. Thank you. Uh moving on. Uh we are up for comments from visitors. Will there be any? All right. I just have to read something here real quick. Uh welcome to all those who will be speaking this evening. We would like to remind you that the school board meetings are for the purpose

021of carrying on the business of the district. They are official business meetings held in public. Through school board bylaws 0167.3, the board allows citizens to make comments by scheduling two opportunities on the agenda to receive citizen comments. Persons wishing to address the board are asked to come to the podium and state their name and address for the record. Comments are limited to only one time. Individuals who will be speaking will be limited to 3 minutes. Citizen comments are limited to a period not to exceed 30 minutes. In accordance with the intent of the open meetings law please be aware that although the Board of Education welcomes comments from the public, it cannot discuss or debate items brought up during public comments. Board bylaws require that all comments are directed at the presiding officer, who is

022me. Comments must also refer to items within the legitimate jurisdiction of the board. As the presiding officer, I may interrupt, warn, or terminate comments when the statement is too lengthy, personally directed, abusive, obscene, or irrelevant to the business of the board. If the presiding officer exercises his right to terminate comments under the above guidelines, written comments may be submitted to the presiding officer instead. Thank you. Thank you for that, Rob. Good evening, everyone. My name is Lawanda Chambers. My address is 3768 South 75th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53220. I am happy to be here with you all as this is my first school board meeting here in Greendale, and I wanted to stop in and introduce myself as a candidate running in the Democratic Party for state representative. I am so compelled to be here today

023because I am very big on building community and making sure that if you heard about my name, that you get to put a name to a face, and that you know a little bit about me and why I'm running for District 61 state representative. So, quickly a little bit about myself. I am a board certified licensed professional counselor and a clinical substance abuse counselor. I'm the proud owner of Life Wellness and Counseling Services, which is a mental health clinic here in the district as well. I've been in the district going on 10 years and a business owner in the district going on 5 years, and my clinic has been up and running since 2018. If you don't know, mental health is necessary at the capital, and as I am engaging with the community, mental health

024is a very high priority for us all. As I heard the students speaking about well-being, I was very impressed with their um presentation, but also with the focus that you all are giving here at the school. It really shows that you get it and you understand. And so, I would really be excited to partner with you all as the next district assembly state representative, and welcome any questions that you may have off side of outside of this meeting, and thank you for your time. All right, thank you. Anyone else? All right, I'm not seeing anyone. Uh so, then we will move on to the reorganization of the board, uh starting with the oath of office for Kathy. Yeah. >> Yeah, you just need a microphone. What's that? Oh, I need a microphone. Here we go.

025All right, try to Well, I didn't memorize it. It's short, though. Okay. I, Kathleen Vincent, swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of Wisconsin, and will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the office of Greendale School Board member to the best of my abilities, so help me God. All right, thank you, Kathy. And now we will move on to the election of officers. All right, the state of Wisconsin requires our Board of Education to reorganize and elect officers of of the board annually. This may This must What? Uh This must take place on or before 30 days after the fourth uh Monday in April. Before we will begin, I will go through the process we use for the reorganization. Could I say a few

026words? I forgot I was going to say a few words um from my swearing in. Oh. Is that okay? Go ahead. Just very briefly. Um I just want to say it's truly an honor to uh have taken my oath of office today um in front of and serving the Greendale uh community. Uh for the past 9 years, I have had the privilege of working on behalf of our students, educators, families, and residents, and I'm grateful for your trust as I begin my fourth term. I still remember the first time I was elected in 2017 when both of my parents were there to celebrate with me. My parents are the reason I value public education so deeply. They sacrificed a great deal for my eight siblings and me moving to Greendale in 1976 to ensure that

027we had the best education possible. I hope my dad continues to look down on me with pride and a smile on his face. I want to thank you uh everyone in the community who has shown their support. Your engagement and belief in our schools mean a great deal to me. I also want to thank you, my fellow board members. It has been wonderful serving with each of you, and I look forward and our student board members, that is, and I look forward to continuing our work together. Our residents have spoken clearly that you value leadership that puts students first. The every decision that I make. I will continue to listen and to serve our entire community, and I want to thank you again. I look forward to the work ahead, and I and in supporting

028every student in Greendale schools. Thank you, and I apologize about the delay. No worries. I will uh I'll just start over here. Uh the state of Wisconsin requires our Board of Education to reorganize and elect officers of the board annually. This must take place on or before 30 days after the fourth Monday in April. Before we will uh Before we begin, I will go through the process we use for reorganization. You will appoint president first. I will ask for nominations for president and a second to each nomination. Nominations are made by voice and by board members only. I will ask for nominations two times. Each person that is nominated will be asked if they accept the nomination. I will state that nominations for president are closed. A roll call will be taken uh ending with

029the current president. The president will then take over and lead the process for vice president, clerk, and treasurer. Are there any questions with this process? I'm not seeing any, so I will kick it over to you. The process of determining the school board president is now called to order. Is there a nomination for president? I nominate Rob Kowalski. I I nominate Rob Kowalski. I second. There's been a nomination Are there any other nomination Oh, sorry. >> [laughter] >> Rob, do you accept the nomination for president? >> Yes. All right. Are there any other nominations for president? Are there any other nominations for president? Okay, nominations are closed. Rob is nominated. There will be a roll call vote for president, uh starting with Brian. Yes. Yes. Yes. And I'm a yes. Uh Rob Kowalski has been

030elected president of the Board of Education effective April 27th, 2026. Congratulations, Rob. All right, thank you. >> [applause] >> All right, uh just heads up, she's going to go last just in case there's any any delay. Didn't know that. All right, so is there a nomination for our vice president? I nominate Kathy Vincent for vice president. Is there a second to the nomination for vice president? I'll second it. Are there any other nominations for vice president? All right, nominations are closed. Uh Kathy has been nominated, and we will do a roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. And I'm yes. Yes. All right. Uh Kathy, congratulations. Is there a nomination for clerk? I nominate Kristen Suttle. I'll second. All right, we have a nomination and a second. Are there any other nominations for clerk? All right, nominations

031are closed. Uh Christie has been nominated for clerk, and we will conduct a roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm yes. Yes. All right, congratulations. Uh Christie is the clerk. And finally, is there a nomination for treasurer? I nominate Tasha Hughes. I will second. All right, we have a nomination and a second. Are there any other nominations for treasurer? All right, nominations are closed. Uh Tasha has been nominated the treasurer, and will conduct a roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. All right, congratulations, Tasha. All right, we will move on to the approval of the district funds, or the depositories of district funds. >> So, listed in your board packet is information regarding current district depositories. Um the only change was regarding Tri-City Bank um within your board packet. Uh we're currently using US Bank for

032all the park and rec um deposits. So, we're consolidating that. We try and maximize um investment returns for the district. So, you see the two investment accounts highlighted there um as well as taking feedback from the auditors regarding um collateralized deposits, which we are able to utilize right now at um uh the P- PMTA um bank. All right. Thank you. Uh so, we need to approve. Um we are looking for a motion to approve. One quick question. How much is the $100,000 or sorry, different That's different one. for the um with the switch in the different bank accounts, obviously eliminating Tri-City, we have just a general account. Can you explain just kind of a little bit on breakdown on that we're putting everything in the US Bank or just uh clarification for that? So, um

033money that we don't need um immediately is being swept into the investment accounts so we can try to get interest in that like 3.5% to high 3% range. But, there are ongoing deposits coming in for food service and park and recreation. As they do activities, those are being segregated and then there's money going in and out of operations and um our health insurance trust since we run a self-funded health insurance plan. We have to make um payments and we have to take deposits in. So, those things are being separated. The general operating um would have a number of different transactions outside of park and rec and food service. Thank you. Yep. All right. So, we are looking for a motion to approve. I move approval of the US Bank Local Government Investment Pool and Wisconsin

034Investment Services Cooperative as depositories of district funds as presented in agenda item 1.3. I'll second. All right. We have a motion and a second and if there's no other questions, we'll do a roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm yes. All right. Motion passes. And we will now move on to the authorization to sign checks, contracts, agreements, and purchase orders. Yep. So, this is background information. Um this is approved annually by the board that lays out that those checks are dual authorized by the board president and district treasurer. That's part of the monthly financial reports that are brought to the board. This also highlights that contracts um below $100,000 can be approved and assigned by my role, the director of business services. Those contracts that are over 100,000 do require board approval and then that um

035authorization is delegated to me once the uh my my role as director of business services once that's approved at the board level. And then um also there are agreements that we review during the year, shared services 6603s um that require board approval and then can be signed by the director of business services. Um as part of the district finance committee listing of all current vendor contracts that exist in the district that was reviewed as part of the budget preparation process. So, that committee has seen that, reviewed that whole list, and um we've asked for additional help um cuz we've got some financial expertise and some contract expertise of members of that committee to give us additional insight on where um we can focus time and um they can also ask questions to understand uh what

036types of services we need to contract with with private vendors. The last thing is uh purchase orders. So, those those items that are within budgeted funds can be approved by the director of business services and those are digitally signed and we send those out to vendors. So, with that I'd be happy to take any questions that the board has. Otherwise, I would recommend approval as presented. Kathy. Yes. Uh just one question, Jonathan. Um several years ago, I don't even remember how many it was. We we lowered the amount for the approval by the board. I think it was 150,000. We went down to 100. Does this delay you in any way if we are at 100,000 or has that been working out? We don't have a lot of contracts that probably fall below that. Um

037I would say that it's accurate that there are not a lot of contracts that are above 100,000 and we try to work as proactively as possible to get those to the board in a timely fashion so that we're not delayed in any of those services that we need to have. So, in that aspect, right? Like I think we try to work um collaboratively around that policy so that the board can get engaged in those conversations. Yeah. So, it's not delaying you or anything. It When you when you say the word like delay, it has like a negative connotation to it. I think it's part of the checks and balances of having a school board that you should get educated on the contracts that the um community is entering into because things that are above $100,000

038are the types of contracts community members stop you and ask you about. And so, for you not to have any background on like what those are, what was the process, who you know, how did we consider different vendors. So, I don't think of it as a delay. This is collaborative between administration and the the board to discuss those. Um I have no issues operating with that $100,000 threshold, right? But, I also don't have like full autonomy and that's a good thing um in the way that I work is we have discussions and with the finance committee, we have additional levels of discussion where they can ask questions and kind of prep um additional notes and comments before those things come to the board. And how often is that finance committee meeting? Once a month. What?

039It's every month. >> Yep. So, that is typically the Wednesday before the monthly financials are presented. We try to line up the meetings as best as possible and we know there's a couple like community conflicting committees we work around, but it's generally the Wednesday before so that they're also seeing in-depth those monthly financials and engaging in that as well. Yeah. All right. If there's no other questions, we'll look for a motion. I'll move approval of the authorization to sign checks, contracts, agreements, and purchase orders as presented in agenda item four. 1.4. I second. All right. We have a motion and a second and we'll do a roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm yes. Yes. All right. Motion passes. Uh moving on to committee assignments. To assist with the committee assignment process, I uh surveyed the

040board members and I'll share the results with that to help um focus the discussion around anything where there we have CESA 1 delegate. Brian is currently in that role. He expressed the highest level of interest and no one else seems to have a high level of interest in the CESA 1 delegate. Um the second is the WASB Delegate Assembly and Liaison. Um both Tasha and Brian expressed um interest in that with Brian expressing it as a five. So, that is an area of discussion. Um and I can go through the rest and then you can come back and discuss the ones that are where there's um multiple people interested. Uh park and rec, Rob, you're the only one who expressed a high level of interest. Um village board liaison, Rob, you expressed the highest level

041of interest in that. Um Greendale Education Foundation, Kristen is currently serving. I don't know where she stands on wanting to continue with that. There was other people did not express a high level of interest. Um I would like to continue, Dr. Macek. Thank you. So, that is No one else had a high level of interest in that. Um policy committee, Kathy and Rob expressed the highest level of interest with the gap before anyone else expressed interest. Finance committee, Brian and Tasha both expressed the highest level of interest and Tasha is treasurer is um on the committee by um policy. And then legislative advocacy and SWASA, Brian expressed a higher level of interest and there is conversation about the possibility of discontinuing the membership in SWASA. So, for the remainder of our current membership, um that

042person would serve there, but whoever the person is would continue and Brian had a higher level of interest there. Um and then Greendale Global Tasha expressed a high level of interest and time for learning I believe was Kristen. So, that is where it's at. So, the areas that you might want to have a conversation is around WASB delegate, um village board liaison, and legislative advocacy. So, for like the WASB delegate, wouldn't I thought Kathy would be Did you not share interest in that? What? The WASB delegate. Were you not interested in that? Um well, I will be there as a regional director. Um so, yes, I can take on that role if no one else is interested in it. Um but if somebody else wants The level of interest was five for Brian, four for

043Tasha, and three for Kathy. So, Oh, I'm fine with Brian. I mean, he did a great job testifying last year and it's kind of nice to have two of us there. We get two votes anyways, my vote and and the board's vote. So, So, who's going to do legislative updates then? I can continue that unless you are interested in that. Do you want to do legislative? I can do that. Okay. Yeah, I'm fine with that. Um yeah. Okay. Brian it is. Village board liaison. Um I can do that. I have a good working relationship with the board. Um I will share that I do attend uh typically at least one to two meetings of theirs a month. So, I will likely be at those meetings as well. Sometimes I'm there in my capacity as a

044county supervisor also. Uh but it it's not a quorum and even if it was, it'd be posted. But um I'm happy to have you be the face of the school board. Works for me. And there appears to be no interest in changing schools for the school liaisons. Everyone requested their same school. Makes it easy. Yeah. All right. So, anyone else have anything to to add regarding committee updates or committees? No. All right. Oh, I was going to just say one thing. Dr. Mizell kind of alluded to it, but with the SWSA and Jonathan, um you can chime in if you want, but uh we've been attending uh for several years now. We've been in in SWSA. Um it it will be a cost savings if we step back from that. I have not necessarily seen

045the value. Um I think with the advocacy that our administration and our board is doing um and we've got WASB. I I think that could be a cost savings for the board and it just, in my opinion, the you Neil see, Brian, when you're in them. Um there's not a lot of depth to the meetings anymore. It used to be a little bit I felt a little bit more structured and um I believe other districts are maybe pulling away a little bit from that as well. Um the time of the day is also an issue sometimes because it's during the work day. Um usually 7:30 in the morning, which I'm able to attend uh portion of that until my students come in and then uh Jonathan has been in those meetings. So, I don't know

046if you have anything to add, but I I have not felt a great sense of um gain for our board with that particular committee. There's no decision that needs to be made on that this evening. It is not posted for that, but we are looking at contracts in a future agenda for the board to look at contracts under which they are that are contracts on your behalf. So, SWSA will be on that list for discussion and approval or rejection. And can you Dr. Mizell, can you tell us again what what is the cost of us being members? Is it in like 3,000, something like that? 30 something? >> It's not on the tip of my tongue. We'll see if it's on Jonathan. Yeah, it's about that amount, a little over 3,000. Okay. All right. Thank

047you. Uh moving on to approving uh last meeting's meeting minutes. Looking for a motion. I'll move approval of the April 13th, 2026 regular meeting minutes as outlined in agenda item 2.1. I second. All right. We have a motion and a second. There's no questions, we'll do roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm yes. All right. Motion passes. Uh moving on to Jonathan's financial reports. I presented our financials through the month of March. So, this is through the ninth month of our fiscal year. We'll go through June to wrap up um the whole fiscal year. So, uh in the the um packet is financial information. This information was reviewed with the board finance committee um last week. Uh it shows operational expenses are approximately $570,000 higher year-to-date. Um we noted that that fluctuation is based on salary

048and benefit increases year over year. Also, expenses for textbooks, utilities, bus transportation, and facilities maintenance services. Operational revenues are approximately uh $1.6 million higher um year over year due to tax collections January, February, March. Um a portion of those payments went to the um general operating fund this year shift versus some more of that money going to debt funds in those earlier um uh tax disbursements, particularly January and February. Then the community service expenses are $160,000 higher due to capital projects completed including outdoor athletic fields and the pool surge tank room um which was completed between um uh July and January. So, with that, we'd be happy to answer any questions the board has about the monthly financials. Any questions for Jonathan? No. Not seeing any. Okay. Thank you. Thank you, Jonathan. All right. So,

049we are moving on to the approval of checks and disbursements. I move approval of checks and disbursements in the amount of $4,351,386.10 as presented in agenda item 3.2. I will second. All right. We have a motion and a second. We'll do roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. All right. Motion passes. Uh moving on to um approving the 2026-2027 fees and meal prices. You heard um this information at the last meeting and asked that we bring back an increase. I will turn it over to Jonathan if you want to walk through any of the specifics on impact of the price increase. Yeah, so um updates to the meal projection. So, at the last meeting we talked about the full workbook that we utilize and we did make an update to that workbook. We have two

050of our elementaries that receive a different reimbursement rate for breakfast than Canterberry. So, College Park and Highland View are a different rate. And so, um in that initial projection, we found some double counting of revenue. So, we want to make sure that that was clean in the projection that we're utilizing. So, this shows updated costs um and um uh projected deficit of about $44,000 at the current prices um with an inflationary food costs and then the option presented of a 10 cent increase for lunch only and that narrowing that deficit to 39,000. So, there were a couple questions that came up from the board at the last meeting that we wanted to um try and address. Um one had to do with the um inflationary rate and what we would expect there. Um consumer price

051index numbers uh national level are between 3.3% and 3.6%. The district takes part in a cooperative for the vast majority of all the food purchases during the year and negotiations for pricing for next year is ongoing right now. So, we utilize like the 3.3 to 3.6 is looking at a range of um uh consumer price index in total and then also looking at specifically consumer price index around food. And so, that 4% number allows for additional cushion there in that that projection. Um the goal of the cooperative that we're part of is to try and negotiate a number that would be below um and well below that 4% um number. There was a second question that had to do with fuel charges. So, the only fuel charge that is discussed right now is a $3.95

052fuel charge for produce and that is one delivery that's made to the high school. So, on an annual basis, that would be about $150. There are not any other delivery charges in contracts um even with the current escalation of fuel prices that are being charged. So, I wanted to address that. Um the third question that came up was how do I anticipate what um price increases could do to expected participation rates? So, on a micro like district level, it's a little bit challenging cuz you have fluctuations with enrollment that can happen at the same time. And so we did go to the USDA data because they've had price equity tool that's required districts in certain situations to to increase prices to a set rate on an annual basis and there was data specifically on this

05310 cent increase level that is estimated that the impact across districts is about 0.7%. So about 2/3 of a percent on participation. So what's presented here shows that 10 cent increase that's a relatively minimal impact on participation but we did update and build that into the model so that deficit number if the board approve assumed that 0.7% and then what would happen like at the Greendale level could vary a bit. At the 25 cent level there was different data that went from 2% and I saw additional data that said it could be 3 to 5% um impact. So I think there could be significantly more and that is a reason why we're recommending the 10% change in um 10 cent change. Thank you. 10 cent change in lunch prices. Sorry about that. Um and sorry

054I thought at the finance committee meeting we talked about adjusting for the breakfast as well. We did talk about changes to breakfast and we are not recommending that at this time. There's been quite a bit of work that's been done this year to create some flexibility with the elementary level in terms of having some time at the end of breakfast to take that to the classroom and really get those numbers up. They're significantly lower on a participation rate than lunch and so the recommendation from our food service director and I is that we would leave those numbers untouched and continue to focus on participation levels there with breakfast. All right. So we are looking for a motion to approve. I move the approval of no changes to the student fee schedule and a 10 cent

055increase to student paid lunches for the 26-27 school years presented presented in agenda item 5.1. I second. All right. We have a motion and a second. If there's no other questions, we'll do a roll call. Yes. Yes. >> Yes. I'm yes. Yes. All right. Motion passes and moving on to the K5 math curriculum adoption. The Typically our curriculum review and recommendations for adoption happen in June. We have moved up the request for approval of the K through 5 math curriculum review. First of all, the decision and recommendation was made almost a month ago. Correct. >> And um by approving early it allows us to use 25-26 um budget resources to purchase the adoption and that guarantees that we have resources in hands of teachers early. And because the the recommendation is a continuation of the

056curriculum an updated version of the curriculum currently in place, we were looking to have the board approve so that we could make purchases before the end of this school year. Um And so I'm going to turn it over to um Maggie to present but know that the teacher team that is making these recommendations will come to the June meeting with the 6 through 12 recommendations for adoption to do a more wide scale information on implementation and the decision making process. Great. Thank you, Kim. Um so we followed the typical curriculum review process that you all are getting very used to. So we had our understanding year last year and then this year we did work around research, student outcomes, teacher voice and then we looked at three different curriculums. Um We looked at Desmos Amplify.

057We looked at Kiddom as Illustrative Math and then we looked at the third edition of Bridges. So we piloted all three of those programs after looking at several green rated um curriculums from different districts. We settled on those three different to pilot. We had lots of teachers who piloted in the elementary and we had we had a 6 10 week pilot for those students and teachers received weekly planning support, reflection opportunities, data collection um using a standardized rubric and then we also had a feedback loop that was pretty consistent. And then um we convened in January and February to like share their pilot experiences, review the data and look through that and then we had our consensus building um at the beginning of right after spring break. So and we came to consensus that we

058would adopt Bridges 3 third edition. One of the big factors was is that we have had a lot of success with Bridges. Our elementary schools continually are in the 70 or 80th um have 70% to 80% of our students who are proficient or advanced. So and also their intervention is really strong and we're seeing a lot of growth numbers and supports for that. Um and the team still wants to come and share their story like Dr. Mitzik shared and kind of talk about all the amazing things that the team did and the work that they did but I am bringing this to you now so that we can utilize funds. So I'm asking for you um to approve this continued adoption of Bridges. All right. We are looking Kathy. Just one thing. So this incorporate

059or this includes the workbooks for Bridges. >> It sure Yes, it does. And I saw you had 946 for 6 years. Um so obviously if we get more students in we would That's per year. >> That is per Oh, that is per year. Okay. 946 So um the way that works is is that Jonathan Mitchell and I worked together to look at enrollment trends and we took the highest trend for the past 5 years so that we would have enough so we could get it at the lower price. And then we use that number. Bridges has been really great to work with and we need extra workbook or anything like that. Um but our plan is to adopt for those 6 years. So that would be ongoing regardless of that's our kind of base number

060of kids. Does that make sense? >> Yeah, it does. Thank you. And I I just think it is good that we're getting actual workbooks in the hands of the kids cuz we've heard from people in the past that have come in and said there's not enough paper paper for the pencil going on. I am familiar with the Bridges books. I use them actually and they're they're very sequential and I think they're great to use. Thank you. And that was a consideration that the team talked about is the importance of um that encoding that kids need and handwriting and learning math through manipulatives and not just online. And going back and looking back at their past work too having that in one place I think is And for families too so parents can I mean a

061workbook can be very helpful cuz then you can say, "What did your teacher say? Let me look at the way they did this." So that's really helpful as well. Any other questions? All right. So we're looking >> Yeah. This is This is Kristen. Sorry. Um Is it a big deal if we table this until next week Monday so that we can get direct feedback from some of the teachers who were piloting this new curriculum? You always have that option. You would need a motion. We can bring it back to >> But that doesn't mess up the numbers etc. the financing. I would just be interested as the parent of a child who did pilot this. Um I would like to just get some direct feedback from some of the teachers who had the experience. If

062you if action is taken next week that still gives us time to be able to order and receive the materials before the end of the school year. Do we need to make a motion to table? >> You wouldn't Yeah, I Kristen if you're making a motion to table that's a motion. So Rob can accept that. Yeah. Yeah, I appreciate the patience but I am going to make a motion to table this until next week Monday just so we can have the opportunity to talk to the teachers who are using it and make sure that they're aligned and make sure they don't have questions. I had a lot of questions during the pilot of my son's teacher so I just would just like to touch base now that it's over and get some more direct feedback.

063I'll second that motion. All right. So we have a motion and a second to table this until next week. We'll do a roll call. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. All right. So we are tabling the math curriculum until Can I ask a question? >> [snorts] >> No. So what I'm just curious about would you want them to like what are we what are they're going to come, which is great, and I can get the some teachers to come. I'm just curious if you just want a Q&A or if you would like a presentation from them or what the expectation is so I can have some guidance on how to prepare before next Monday. Um honestly, I don't need a presentation or any Q&A. If you just want to give us a list of the teachers

064so we can contact them directly. That's in the >> ask some just pointed questions via email or over um rooms. Yeah, in the Um just to get some feedback. That's in the board report on the elementary pilot teachers. They're all listed there. So you can Yeah, anybody can use that list and and make some calls this week if that's what you'd like to do. Yeah, and if I Okay, I didn't see the list so thank you for clarifying. Oh, yeah, no problem. I just want to know what I need to do to be ready to support your guys' decision around this. And I would just maybe um just add to that that you know, possibly a visual of just what we're looking at um you know, just so everyone can kind of see if if

065they don't have kids in the school. I don't have kids in the school, but I know this but that might be just helpful for people to see what they're Yeah, I think all of us have actually been through Bridges. Yeah. Brian have We all have. >> are okay? Yeah. Yep. Yeah, we We Do we have materials that we can put on display or I For Absolutely. >> Or is there a a public link that gives them >> I could do either. Let's do a public link so that they have access to it. So we'll provide you with um a public link and we'll put it on um we'll put it in a spot that the public can view it. Yes. All right, so I have my guidance. Thank you. >> And again, Maggie, just to

066clarify, I don't want to ask the teachers to come and to the meeting if they don't want to, etc. We don't I don't require a presentation. I just want a week to gather some one-on-one data. Oh, for sure. That makes sense. All right, so we will uh postpone this till next week. Great. Thank you. All right, so the last action item is approving personnel. There are a number of personnel. We have a resignation uh resignation, one teacher renewal that from things that became more clear over the last couple weeks since you renewed the other teachers, and then two teacher appointments that have gone through the higher the interview process. And administration recommends approval. All right, so we need a motion to approve the um personnel. I'll move approval of the personnel, uh approval of the

067resignation, teacher resignation uh 5.3a, approval of the teacher renewal 5.3b, and the teacher appointments 5.3c. All right, we have a motion. Uh looking for a second. Second. Uh we'll do a roll call unless there's no additional questions. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm yes. Yes. All right. Uh last but not least, we have board committee updates if there are any. I know Park and Rec was canceled last time. I know. I don't know if Kim Dr. Mizek has anything for um charter school. I was at the finance committee meeting. Yeah. Yes, the charter um Greendale Global is enrolling. Um their enrollments are climbing, the which is a good thing. We are seeing um students coming from uh who have not are not currently enrolled in the schools but are residents, students who are open enrolling out to

068other districts, and um resident students who are um currently in the Greendale schools all expressing interest, so we're working on that. Uh the grant application has been in and we're hoping to hear on that in the next um couple months. The charter has been approved at by the state. Uh it took a couple of tries. Rob had to sign some technical corrections to the document, just some typos or issues. Um so that's been approved and it is moving forward. We have two uh new board members. Um it when we adopted the charter um it was recognized that we could not receive federal funds if there was a staff member on the board, and Marita Thiel, who is the uh teacher, the success coach for the program, was on the board, so she stepped back from

069the board, and uh they appointed a new board member, and then one of the other board members has stepped away from the work, and another board member was appointed last week, so um there There are five members on that board. Flor Misco is the president of that board, and they're continuing to do work together. If I could comment on that, I have seen some social media um testimonies that have come out recently, and I think they're very well done, and it looks I I don't know if Kitty's the one that put that together, but it it looks like it's getting a lot of traction. So I think they're very well well done. It was not Kitty. It is the board. The Greendale Global board those two people. >> Yeah, they were It was great. All

070right, and then uh moving on to board calendar. Uh hold on one moment, please, Rob. Dr. Mizek, can you talk about the dine out for the Greendale Education Foundation? >> much. Tomorrow is dine out for the Greendale Education Associ- or the Greendale Education Foundation, and I'm going to pull up the flyer really quick. Um I don't know what it's doing. Hold on. Do you have it? Thank you. Um the dine out for uh Greendale Education Foundation is tomorrow. So dining out at any of the um at Panther Pub between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m., Dia Cafe between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Raising Cane's between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. You do need a code for that, RC Funds 96, uh Vintage 38 between 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., Billy Sims Barbecue between 11:00 a.m. and

0718:00 p.m., and Tropical Smoothie between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. So you could get both lunch breakfast, lunch, and dinner and donate to the Education Foundation in that dine out. So. Do you have to mention that you are with those groups? >> The only one that requires it is Raising Cane's. All right, thank you. And now we will I don't Does anyone have anything else to add? No. All right, moving on to the board calendar. Um there The dine out is tomorrow, so if any of you decide to join together and enjoy and dine out for the Greendale Education Foundation and Greendale schools, that would be an opportunity. Uh coffee with the superintendent on Wednesday morning at 8:45. Um and then there is a band concert on Wednesday uh high school band concert on Wednesday

072evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Um Oh, what's the book Who's got the book fair? College Park. There's a book fair bingo family night, and that is at College Park. Thank you. On Friday evening. So uh there's a number of opportunities, but it's a short week before we are back here again, so. Are we posted for the dine out or not? We don't know the location that you would choose to go to, so if you're all planning to go to the same dine out, that's fine, but it is a social gathering, and this is sufficient notice that you may incidentally run into each other at one of these events. Friday night is also raffle night at Canterbury. Thank you. That is not I'm not seeing that on the on my calendar. Raffle night at Canterbury.

073It's raffle night at Canterbury from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and there's going to be some anniversary jubilee items um from March that will be on view as well. Awesome. Thank you for sharing. All right, and second chance for comments. Nope. All right, so we will adjourn and um come back next week, May 4th. Yeah. Yeah, we'll be recognizing educators
