but all five board members are present and we'll hear from our newest board student board representative shortly and Emma is excused this evening communications dr. kilts we have a couple of things to share with the board and community first of all I want to take a moment to welcome Jonathan Mitchell our new director of business services Jonathan join us from st. Francis school district where he served in a similar capacity there mr. Mitchell has extensive experience in business services and the Deerfield and st. 004school year with those forty students as that pilot program and then we'll we'll review it and see what that can look like in terms of involvement of all of our ninth graders then for the 2020 2021 school year construction continues to move forward at all five sites the new scoreboard at convinced key stadium has been installed high school gym gyms have been painted with the floor of the main gym at the high school starting next week air conditioning continues to be installed at all five campuses and the week was dry enough for site work to make great progress at Canterbury and Highland View Elementary Schools crews also framed out the rooms at the middle school for drywall and finish work next week and construction updates and pictures of the work are posted regularly on our

the district is addressed board policy sets a time limit for citizen comments and will be adhering to that board policy and its limits at tonight's meeting persons wishing to address the board are asked to come to the podium and state their name and the address for the record and comments are limited to one time individuals will be speaking will be limited to three minutes or five minutes if representing that group citizen comments are limited to a period not to exceed 30 minutes so thank you good evening Mary good evening my name is Mary Laurel Grogan I reside at 4 962 Sutton Lane in Greendale I'm sorry it took me so long to get here to congratulate the new members of the board I'd like to you know go on the record as congratulating Thor for

his well-run campaign I do think he had an endgame advantage and also Noel congratulations to you for widening the Vote gap after the primary I know that you've wanted to be on the Greendale school board for a long time to the rest of the school board I just wanted to say thank you for your public service and congratulations on the referendum renovations as I drive around town they're obvious that things are on schedule and moving forward today is my birthday so I won't be staying for this meeting but I am following your work as a board online and reading the minutes so many great things can happen over the summer and so I have every confidence that this board can find a way to bring mercy compassion and justice to the equity issue thank you

thank you Mary and happy birthday anyone else I'd like to speak [Music] Laura Miller 5 2 3 4 Lakeside Drive I'm here representing Paige parents advocating for Greendale equity and we formed our group last year because it became apparent that Greendale school district needed to rethink its behavior towards its students of color our mission is to represent and amplify the voices of those students parents and community members who feel that they are not adequately heard or represented in Greendale especially in the public schools to help Greendale school districts and the community at large to make a priority to embrace its growing diversity and to become more aware of the systemic racism in its past and present and to become more a more welcoming community for all so I would like to touch on some things

some topics from our last board meeting your lawyer the lawyer of the school district spoke to you all at length about many things and Joe asked her question about whether or not a group of people kind of like my group page could continually come up and speak about their concerns repeatedly over time and her advice to you all was to make it an agenda item so that you can have a public discussion about what is concerning the community so Deanna has asked for this back in October 2018 the pastor asked about it a few months back and our group the page has asked about it repeatedly we want to know what you think about racial bias racism institutional racism and if you think you could do better listen to your lawyer and put our concerns

on the agenda how many students have you suspended for verbally defending herself after being called the n-word three times in the most hateful way how many students have you suspended and called the cops for this again listen to your lawyer and put our concerns on your agenda also in a closed session with the lawyer on June 17th you were to confer with legal counsel for the governmental body who is rendering oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation which is which it is or is likely to become involved the ACLU and iyanya and the other parents involved have been waiting a month for your strategy to be made known they were told that they would have it about two weeks ago and it's been put off to

possibly later this week these multiple delays seem unnecessary and kind of unprofessional and possibly nefarious we want transparency from you and we want our to heal our Greendale School District community so please do not be racially biased and don't make them wait any longer the next page meeting is looking forward to hearing your review of the policies concerning student discipline these are important and the most important part is that the intamin administration principals and vice principals and student resource officers apply these in a non biased non racist way finally I would like to remind you of our hopes and dreams for the Greendale School District and our students I hope you remove chemises athletic code of contact violation we hope that when a video is cited as evidence as to why a student's is suspended

the parent can see the evidence in a timely way without having to get a lawyer we hope that you hire teachers of color we hope that you continue the reconciliation process with the parents and the students that have been deeply hurt we hope that you teach all of our students how to deal with incidents of racism in Greendale school district in order to help protect our students who are being targeted and we hope you train yourselves and we hope that you help us want to trust you again thank you one more time thank you for your comments we will be hearing a board report on October 7th the green the Greendale Coalition for the diversity equity and inclusion and October 7th good evening my name is Alan Bingenheimer my address is 60-58 Oakwood Lane in

Greendale I am on 1965 graduate of Greendale high school I had four points to address but I received a recent email from superintendent kilts which saw my thunder on the first tool that in August 5th you will be presenting at the next board meeting the report on construction details financing and so on for the bond issue as well as your report card on Greendale school vision 2020 so I'm looking forward to being there and and getting that report thank you for your being so proactive I'm also a member of the National Rifle Association I owe a group frontlines group which is the Institute for legislative action is recently a group of us who went to Madison to speak to our Wisconsin assembly legislators for the southeastern area here one of the people we talked to

or the office that we attended was for our own district 82 which is Ken Skowronski of Franklin so I wanted to make you aware that he will be reintroducing a bill in the Wisconsin Legislature to require the public Department of Public Instruction to develop a firearm education course for Wisconsin high school students so I urge you to keep in contact with him express your input to it and support him as you know ken is a certified NRA firearm safety instructor for hunting the other item that I wanted you to be aware of is that NRA provides a security review call school shield program you go to school NRA school shield org not comm dot org and it will give you information on vulnerability assessments and training that can be done and I see already there

are is some action on that regard and for those out corn aware of it I would appreciate if you could check out the NRA school shield org and especially look at the training section in there it gives a lot of examples of people that have been involved mother's administrators police and so on thank you thank you very much and you noted that we will be hearing a couple of reports at our next board meeting regarding the district report card and an update on the the facilities I just want to also make you aware that in November are at a November 18th meeting will we will be receiving a school safety report and that's an annual report that is given by our school safety team talking about what we do with the village of Greendale police

as well as just some of the the practices that are done here at the schools thank you any additional comments okay all right then we will continue on with the agenda next item on the agenda is approval of the meeting minutes I approve the minutes regular meeting minutes from the June 17th 2019 meeting and the closed session meeting minutes from June 17 2019 I second there's been a motion a second to approve the regular meeting minutes and the closed session meeting minutes of June 17th 2019 and any further discussion then I call for a roll call vote yes yes yes and I am yes motion carries continuing and the financial reports so provided in your packet where the financial reports for the month of June so right now we're working on closing the financial year

so we've got ninety nine percent of our revenue so almost everything's been accounted for there there's still some grant claims that are under our federal revenues that we would still be finalizing as we get some final invoices all the payrolls are taking care of at this point on the expenditures there's 89 percent to date and that's mainly a reflection of the fact that we haven't transferred our local share for special education our fund 27 and so when that transfer is made that's going to add about another 3.2 million to our Funt end expenditures and that'll get us to the end so with that any questions just out of curiosity what why the delay in transferring 127 so we have to make sure that we've got all of our bills paid i'm expenditures done before we

do it because we just do a one-time transfer meaning like everything else has been taken care of and now we're ready to wrap up the books so we have a final figure of what would be owed to that fund to get it into balance thank you any other additional questions it's going to depend on one that revenues coming in like where where does it belong are those four programs that are going to start and take place before July 1 if they're not then we can record it kind of as prepaid for the 19 20 year all right any other questions otherwise I'm looking for a motion to approve checks and disbursements for July I motion to approve disbursements of checks in the total amount of two million hundred twenty one thousand four hundred fifty eight

dollars and forty seven cents and then for a total amount to be approved of seven million six hundred sixteen thousand three hundred twenty thousand three hundred twenty-eight dollars and five cents with the payroll four million seven hundred forty thousand eight hundred and sixty nine dollars my second there's been a motion and second to approve July checks and disbursements totaling seven million six hundred and sixteen thousand three hundred twenty eight dollars and five cents any further discussion then I call for a roll call vote yes yes yes yes and I am yes motion carries continuing on to personnel so this evening we have two teacher resignations and a middle school special education teacher appointment this evening so anything for an administration to share any questions from the board exit interviews are still conducted or everybody does

anybody deny that or I mean is its participation usually close to hundred percent yeah is there any kind of report that comes from that I mean you like as board members we don't we never see common concerns sure so that's exactly what I tell the employees that the information that they share with me I encourage them to be as open and honest as they feel comfortable that the information won't be attributed to them as an individual but really we're looking at trends and patterns that we hear from people and you know we don't have very many teachers leaving and the teachers that are leaving have reasons it leaving the area different different things like that so yes I do collect that information and analyze what kind of feedback we're getting some of that does also

go back directly to the principals in terms of these are some concerns that I heard in exit interviews and what can we do to address some of those concerns thank you I think with tonight's resignations a couple of them are because they were involuntary moved from a full-time position to a point seven because of class sizes or in that class sizes but number of classes needed exactly it was based on enrollment data on registrations from students based on what the needs were for the number of high school sections that we had that's always a balance we're an in-demand teacher going down to a point seven is probably going to look elsewhere unless their lifestyle needs something like that exactly okay any other questions I just was looking at the part that talked about the liquidated

damages penalty is that that's the clause if they don't let you know after a certain time then it depends on the date of resignation so once they sign the contract which is due June 15th it's a $500 penalty if they resign prior to July 1 July 1 through July 30 if is 750 and then after August 1st it increases to $1,000 in that's an automatic or is there discussion about that like we don't make any decisions on that it it's part of the contract that they they sign an agreement when they accept the offer from the district and it's intended I mean you're right it's part of the contract that we approve and it's intended to offset some of our costs that now we're having to replace student-teachers late in the summer mm-hmm and that's

the reason for the increasing fee as well to encourage the resignation earlier so we have replacement time and training for the new people when we see the enrollment going down and then they go down to a point seven or a point five are there any teachers that are cross-- categorical that we could continue on in a different capacity teaching a different class we always look at that with dual licensure and that's one of the positives of having that flexibility within licensure so that is something that we consider looking at the high school as a whole of where can we fill those needs okay all right any other questions otherwise I'm the promotion to approve I move to approve agenda item 4.1 personnel approval teacher appointment and accept teacher resignations there's been a motion a second

to approve teacher appointments and accept the teacher resignation any further discussion then I call for a roll call vote yes yes yes yes and I am yes motion carries continuing on so the next item on our agenda is now that we are in a new school year we are here to approve the student board representative so Meagan Jacobs has joined us she is with the class of 2021 so she's a rising junior and she went through an interview process and had a lot of very good candidates that participated and Meagan was selected to join the Board of Education for the next two years she'll be joining Emma who is excused this evening but looking forward to your role here and you want to add I don't want to put you on the spot me again

oh great hello like it was said my name is Megan Jacobs and I will be a junior at Greendale high school this year and I am very excited to join the board to give a little background about me I enjoy sports and I play singles on the varsity tennis team each year I like to also try a new sport my freshman year I joined the JV golf team and this year I joined the JV soccer team and it was a ton of fun I have a passion for music and theater I love singing in the school choir and being a part of any theater performance currently I'm preparing for a first stage performance in August I also loved being involved in the community and in the past few years my highlights include coaching an adorable

second-grade basketball team organizing a fundraiser for children in China and orphanages there and volunteering as a camp leader at camps in WA just like to thank my mom for being here this year I also had the honor of being part of Greendale's focus group on diversity the focus group allowed me to hear and work to understand different viewpoints after this diversity group ended at the end of the year I wanted to stay more involved in the community and continue to be involved and that's why I applied for this position this year I really hope to focus on perception versus reality sometimes at school I find that there's misinformation that causes perception to be different from reality and I want to help to find ways that we can narrow the gap between perception and reality and

become an even more cohesive school I'm super excited to be on the board and to help Greendale continue to be a strong and amazing community thank you Thank You Megan so we are slated to approve so I'd like a motion a second to approve Megan as our student board representative I move approval of our student board representative Megan Jacobs as outlined an agenda item 4.2 I second there's been a motion a second to approve the 2019 2021 student representative any further discussion I just want to thank you for stepping and being willing to give us an insight to what the students are feeling and going through their experience here so thanks for that excellent any other comments or questions then I'll call for a roll call yes yes yes yes and I am yes congratulations

Megan next on the agenda is the payment number Keane so this is the second payment and this is part of state law where either Greendale School District needs to provide rotation to families whose students attend parochial schools or where private schools or to pay the parents and the families where instead of providing busing services to some of the local schools like st. Alphonsus and st. Mary's and Hales Corners we actually moved to parent transportation contracts which is why you see the list a little longer than in the past what was the overall savings yeah we will have to get that information to you I think it was about half the cost of previous years okay in terms of the difference between providing buses and doing the contracts with parents so but we'll get the exact

figures and share that oh thank you I just had a question and maybe talked about this in the past but there were two that are being issued what I recall these motors are transportation within the district there are two that are actually currently reside in the district so I just wasn't certain like like they're not leaving for private schools and I guess I was just wondering yeah that would depend on whether or not there is an IEP and there's an agreement regarding that so that overall we're trying to again save funding for the district same thing for Whitnall I'm confused as to how that's on the list so the student is a Greendale student but attending witness schools and because of their IEP Greendale is required to provide transportation oh that's the consortium it's a

consortium so whether they go to one of the private schools or we contract with one of the local public schools good question obviously correct all right any other questions they call for a motion to approve I move approval of the here the 2018-19 parent transportation contract as outlined in agenda item 4.3 second there's been a motion a second to approve the 2018 2019 parent transportation contract for payment to any for the discussion they call for a roll call vote yes yes yes yes and I am yes motion carries continuing on next item on the agenda is the approval of the curriculum alignment with Wisconsin academic standards so again this is another state requirement where every year it's a recent State Legislature legislative requirement to notify families what standards Greendale is adhering to anything for administration

that you want to add or you approve the standards alignment is part of the curriculum review and that's why the curriculum adoption dates are listed there is additional alignment with the AC t in our areas of reading math and science and social studies for that matter on there reading standards but those are not the officially adopted standards but teachers do work to ensure alignment with those in addition to the Wisconsin academic standards and there are a lot of similarities which we cross walk during curriculum review and the high school has been working on in their goal but what we're proving tonight is alignment with the Wisconsin academic standards which have been previously approved in curriculum adoptions would it makes em and I didn't understand this what we have to do but would it make sense

to add other standards that we mapped to in the future just so that there's more transparency on the things that were connected to we could do that we could add that they are in the board reports every six years but we could certainly add the other standards that were considered in the report I just had a question regarding input that our district has with the state standards I noticed on the DPI site there's actually a survey survey to take how much right do we have regular input in these standards and do we feel that he does voice in that at all yeah actually last year the DPI consultant for the fine arts came out and had a personal conversation with us so yes there are opportunities for us to engage with dpi when standards are

up for review and we do so it's not just a survey but they're actually reaching out mm-hmm and then if you need to reach out to them oh and any concerns or input you can do I'm actually surprised at how often they answer the phone when I do have a concern on these issues at least on other issues not so much or any other questions as I'm looking for a motion to approve this evening a motion to approve agenda item 4.4 curriculum alignment and with Wisconsin state academic standards second there's been a motion a second to approve curriculum alignment with Wisconsin academic standards any further discussion and I call for a roll call vote yes yes yes yes and I am yes motion carries and then from here I think kitty will then work our

director communications will work to notify the families I think she probably puts something in some of that there will be information in the annual report and there will be a reference to the web page where we have all of our notifications okay very good moving on to new a new business tonight we are seeing the 2019 2020 staff handbook for review this evening we'll bring it back at our next board meeting for approval and there were a few changes a few edits that administration is recommending this time sure so each year our processes that we review the handbook but I keep track of any questions or concerns that come up throughout the year and also check with staff as well as principals and any feedback or changes that they would recommend for the handbook and

bring those in the July time frame so I have those outlined here and they there was the addendum the paper addendum at the table tonight as well so I'll run through those items also the first item is related to work-related injury reporting and that is updating to be consistent with our existing policy one correction on here I have struck through the employee shall fill out an accident report form that will be maintained that is still accurate that was should not have been struck from the from the language so just clearing that up with our consistent and existing policy next item is harassment and discrimination that is a result of board policy that was changed during the school year so as a result of the W ASB policy audit we had specifically some protected categories that

weren't included that we have now expanded to also include or they weren't specifically called out and so correcting that language to make it consistent with the policy as well as updating the complaint procedure consistent with the policy change that was made the next item is Appendix A regarding paid personal leave it's the language has been in the handbook that we would require an exception approval for taking the the personal days for teachers consecutively so we had a restriction around that they couldn't take their two days back-to-back that has proved to be an administrative burden as well as in talking with the principal's we almost always approve it on an exeption basis and as teachers are planning for sub coverage while they're going to be out of the classroom at times it may be less disruptive

to the students to have them out consecutively rather than two days spread throughout so with all of those things taken into consideration and convenience for employees looking at removing that restriction so that they would be allowed to take the days consecutively we would maintain the existing provisions that don't allow it to be taken at certain times of the year first week of school last week of school and then connected to one of our longer breaks that language would stay in as restrictions but we would allow them to be taken consecutively there I don't see it here but these do not carry over the personal days from one year to the next is that right um they do not carry over however if they are not used they convert into sick leave so that is available

to two employees that if they don't use their personal leave it adds their sick leave accumulation I assume feedback is probably good from the staff that they're allowed to take two in a row yeah and honestly we had many requests for exemption which was part of why we looked at do we really need to have this restriction in place particularly given that we're most often granting it just from my I shouldn't know this but sick leave can be used for sick leave but when a staff leaves the district either through retirement or elsewhere sick leave is not paid out that is correct okay thank you not since the mid 90s at least I don't know when it was taken the contract language I for sure since 2005 but it was prior to that that we

did not know was there change no it was part of the contract with the teachers and then what was in the contract then was applied to the employee handbook my guess is that it was probably part of the negotiation around the retirement settlement that happened in the mid-90s I think that that's probably when the change occurred but when I came in 2005 it had not recently been changed and I've asked this before just for clarification there aren't issues with the retiring teacher taking an inordinate amount of sick days semester two we have not seen that we do monitor so if we have staff that are out more than average so I run the report in January and then again in April to monitor sick leave usage and then the principal and I would have a

conversation with the staff member if they had an inordinate amount of sick leave use that year in terms of isn't FMLA required you know are there other circumstances that we should be aware of so it that has not been an issue it's just it's somehow it's a point of discussion in the district where I'm employed and the cynical teachers say well there's no payout so and then that's exactly what happens it's kind of a very terrible tradition so I'm happy to hear that it's not done you mm-hmm the next item is an ad and basically it's somewhat clarification around what the change that we just made regarding paid personal leave so in addition to that we do receive requests from staff for unpaid leave days in general that is discouraged that's what the paid personal

leave is available for but we do want to provide an exception only extenuating circumstances we refer to it as once-in-a-lifetime sometimes that'll come up with child is getting married at a in a destination travel place sometimes it will be a spouse has a work opportunity for a free trip so we'll allow it on a one-time basis to allow that unpaid leave so we don't currently have language around that so just looking to add that language just to clarify that process and procedure of how to request it then I'll move on to the addendum which is similar for both so I'll do them both together looking at increasing our curriculum rate of pay and the in-house sub rate that is a request that came through teachers this year and we did gather some data and comparisons

and it has not been increased again since at least 2005 so it's been at the 22 for a long number of years so looking to increase that to $25 per hour we have done the budget assessment on it and it is not a large budgetary impact we are able to absorb it within the approved budget is there difficulty finding teachers to fill fill classes like in the high school and middle school level without without any in-house sub yes definitely so what I was going to say is sub shortage is definitely an issue that we are dealing with fortunately when staff are asked they do fill in and and sub at that in-house rate but it's it's definitely a challenge that we're continuing to work with and try to address are they asked to fill in

those hours are they told we start with asking looking for volunteers but ultimately we have to have some coverage for the class so it may get to a fallin told well this I would say would help in that cause mm-hmm two things I had one was the move to $25 I'm assuming that's also comparable with others in the region it is as far as asked that told thing I also had that question do you rotate staff so that the same one isn't being hit up all the time at the same time because I'm assuming this comes during their prep time it yes and so that's somewhat restrictive in terms of depending on how many staff are available that particular hour but yes a the school secretary is the one that manages that and and does

keep a list and rotate through so that we're not always going to the same people the addition of building subs has helped with some of that it has alleviated some of that a requirement for in-house subs that has proven to be an effective way for us to address some of these issues yes we have a building sub due to health insurance requirements they're limited to only working three days per week but we rotate them throughout the schools so if the high school doesn't need the person that day they can go to the middle school or one of the Elementary's to be utilized in that way one question on the first item that you mentioned so we took out the language around and the business office and I was just curious how does how does that

kind of roll up through the supervisor to somewhere where you're actually gathering that information if it's not through the business office so what I took out was reporting it to the business office because the work injury hotline generates a work injury report that comes directly to the business office and then the employee the part that we're keeping the employee filling out the accident report describes the situation of what happened what conditions may have existed that need to be corrected to avoid future injury so that that form then comes to the business office this is just eliminating the employee notifying the business office directly because the form is coming from the school and it comes fast enough where you can respond to - yes mm-hmm and then I would add to that as generally you're going

to get an email notification so multiple people can be on that so without needing to intercede in that the the nurse RN is going to provide medical direction to that person on the phone and then we'll just get that information via email of what was taken down in that initial report electronically automatically okay so it's still captured through the business office it's just you know more efficient manner that they don't have to stop to contact us yep yeah so that language was existing prior to the work injury hotline which now files the report for us any other questions about the changes or the employee handbook on the staff handbook at all I had a question about the staff handbook so on pages 22 and 23 where we talked about formal grievance process policy you know

that if if there is a disciplinary action or a termination action that that would and and the staff employee would want to contest that they they would they would notify the director of HR and you would investigate and then we would go to the impartial hearing and then would come back to the board so he'll help me understand you know so we have the impartial hearing officer if then it would come back to the board typically we've used the iho to kind of be the the ending for that process is that something that the state law requires the board to do okay so the change with act 10 was that the board would be the final decision-maker on these types of issues and under review and this policy is consistent with attorney recommendation they drafted

it for us it consistent with the changes as a result of act 10 so we would still rely on an independent hearing officer but the final determination would still end up coming to the board correct okay thank you for the clarification all right any other questions or comments otherwise we will bring this back then to approve at our next board meeting and then it's distributed to staff at the the opening day or so after it's approved we posted electronically in Safe Schools which is the system that we use for all of our training and staff review it - via Safe Schools and then sign-off and that is a process that we we monitor and check for completion and follow-up with those that haven't signed off on it yet to get that taken care of all

right and we'll hear it will receive it back at our next board meeting for approval yep all right continuing on with new business Kathy or legislative update I keep looking to Kathy I apologize dad no worries at all we all of course receive the information in the district update about the budget and how governor eavers partial vetoes and more money specifically for Greendale schools to the amount of one hundred and twenty six thousand dollars these partial vetoes of course have not come without controversy our state senator Dave Craig has proposed and some of you may have heard a constitutional amendment to prevent governor's from increasing spending with the veto such as what governor eavers has done but the long process is over and I think things get somewhat quiet they're Island summer break yes alright

any continuing Anna denying for five point three any board committee updates I was just gonna mention we three of us attended the wasd summer symposium there was an equity symposium on Friday night and there Friday all day actually and then a dinner Friday night where there was presentation and discussion which was really I thought pretty powerful for those of us that were there I also gave each of you tonight two cards one one being the equity decision and policy tool that the DPI has put out and the who what why and how in looking at things that we're doing here in Greendale I think we're right in line with what you know statewide is being done in this area but I always feel that there's more room for improvement too so I think it's you

know good that we have these opportunities as a board to attend these types of workshops I won't speak completely for because Noel and Thora were there too but my sessions that I attended especially in lines with equity were very very meaningful in being able to talk to other districts Percy Brown from Middleton cross plains was our keynote speaker on Friday and some of you maybe have heard from him before he's actually their equity director I think in Middleton cross plains which is a very I think very high quality School District just like ours and he took it from the historical perspective about where we're at with these issues what I really liked about him is it wasn't a finger pointing kind of blaming thing but it was how do we work together with these issues

and so this workshop this weekend was great and I think I'll let Thorin Noel share if they had any other thoughts on it but I think it was a really good two-day workshop and I will echo what Kathleen said but my being a first-time person was going to a a workshop I thought the equity one was excellent I particularly liked Percy Percy Brown and they also enjoyed all of the sessions I went to plus the dinner in the evening and with the symposium on Saturday was nice to get more information being a new board member it's kind of geared towards new board members and learned a lot about the policy policymaking and kind of strategic planning and things like that so it was excellent overall and not to repeat what was already said but to

kind of add to there's one component was really interesting coming out of policy for example there's a few things that have changed recently within dpi and so they brought that to the attention so we can then figure that out how to how to weave that into our updates of policy as well so we're matching what the state is doing so I can share those here shortly with the policy committee and make sure that they find their way to our update cycles so it was helpful for lots of reasons the networking but then also just some of those little tidbits of information since things are constantly changing to have the collective there to to point you in the right direction I also just want to mention I think WSB and my career has been one of

the highlights as far as professional organizations it's just really great to get together with other board members from across the state and to hear their concerns especially when we go to the state convention every year and we talked about the resolutions here and whether we're going to approve them or not but it's really more meaningful to hear from those in these roles in other districts and its across the state it's urban suburban rural areas and it's just it's a really good network of people and I think the WSB has a lot of good things to offer very good thank you and I think that's a good example of the investment that that you guys have all made in continuing that training so thank you and the other board committee updates I just want to make

a note from the Park and Rec Committee pay attention to social media they're doing a great job of promoting a lot of things are coming up low through Facebook and through Twitter if you're not part of either one of those two how they recommend it they share some great things are going on and encourage the residents to get engaged in different ways so join the social media for their Greendale Park and Rec if you haven't already all right thank you next agenda item is board calendar review so this is our only board meeting in July and then we'll get back to our 1st and 3rd board meeting in August the Greendale Community Theatre is also performing their summer musical so that starts this weekend they're doing Mamma Mia both this week in the next weekend

and then in early August we will have village days although there won't be a parade this year but village days will continue going on and then we will have we should all have information about opening day and if you're if you're available board members are invited to attend the opening day session with the staff here in and because of the new early start date this year it's much earlier than years past you'll all be getting an invite to come to the opening day we've changed the opening day up a little bit in the past we've done breakfast in the opening session and then the Wellness Fair with some of our vendors set up in the MPR after the opening session this year what we've decided to do is have breakfast with that vendor fair so

that our staff can go to that from 7:30 to 9:00 and then we're doing the opening session from 9:15 to 11:30 in the High School Auditorium on August 14th so but you'll get an official invitation with an opening letter that were sending to all staff and the board members one thing I was gonna mention since you brought it up with the calendar review Jackie Cramer from the parade committee did ask for a representative from the school board and she asked if I would do that and I said if anyone else wanted to that's fine too but we will have representation as they plan out the arrangement of the parade and and just fitting with what you know hopefully as a district that we would like to see done so so I'll be serving on that

unless maybe you jump at the opportunity thank you thank you for the commitment Justin on the village days the change in the days usually it goes Friday to Sunday this year it's Thursday to Saturday with fireworks on Thursday night and that really is that thank you anything else with calendars that we should be aware of coming up all right then we are at the end any additional comments from visitors all right seeing then we are adjourned in our next school board meeting is on Monday August 5th
