possible in the best that's okay. Um and so National Education Week was celebrated from the 17th to 21st and we had daily announcements that we crafted as a board. Um and we kind of like every day had a different in our school and our community. Um and then we also submitted an article to the epitap for publication. Um just again to kind of highlight that shared goal of fostering strong positive relationships among administrators, staff, um students and our and our broader community. So, I just want to say thank you and I look forward to continuing to work with it alongside you. >> Thank you for your efforts. >> Thank you. Any questions for Sarah? >> All right. Um, any other board members? All right, seeing none. Um, I guess maybe this is the best spot
to just kind of acknowledge a couple thank yous we got here from the supplier and from uh Mikuela and Rance and a donation. So, I'll circulate those for people who those directly close and I guess from that we'll move on to the expense vouchers and receipts questions or conversations to be had there. Right. Hearing none. Uh a motion to approve the expense both receipts. I'll make that motion. Second by thorough. All in favor? I I All right, we'll move on to our consent agenda for tonight. Um items include minutes from the November 12th, 2025 regular board meeting, um fundraisers, the class of 2028 butter braid fundraiser, class of 2026 keto fundraiser, the FFA strawberry fundraiser, and the school fund for high school softball. Get donations. Um field trips for FFA spring trip. Um we have
a custodian resignation. Um Trevor Olsson is resigning and donations um from Patricia Schroeder for $100 to the music activity fund. Barb Hammond from the United Methodist Church for $500 for the lunch fund. Danielle and Isaiah Jones $92 for the lunch debt and $200 from Mattella and Rance Sninger and family for the digital sign. Have a motion to approve the consent agenda. I'll second by Earl, second by Paul. All in favor? >> I I >> All right. Can I say one thing here though on the agenda some I know it comes up on the notes and I'm not sure what gets actually kept as the official document of the agenda but there'd be no didn't it might be in the minutes so maybe it's fine well no it wouldn't be in there um if we're approving
a resignation it probably should show who it is I mean would there be nothing in this packet that somebody looking at this later that wanted actually get that information. >> They'll stay with them. >> Okay. As long as that's there, then. Thank you. All right. We'll uh pass through the action agenda. There's nothing on the agenda for tonight and jump into theformational agenda. Set me up for success here, guys. >> All right. >> Find something to All right. Well, we'll jump into the discussion items then, which um the only thing on the list is the 2026 27 school calendar. So the school calendar in your packet um was provided by a calendar committee. Mara and I had established um a model of the of the calendar with the appropriate days um breaks and so on
and invited the the staff voice. And so they developed two different calendars, put them out to vote amongst the staff, and the staff chose this calendar. I think some of the main differences were um the holiday break. Um that was mainly it. whether they were getting done before Memorial Day, they had a fewer days off at the holiday break, but the majority of staff um like to have that holiday break. I think some travel and then just to prepare and and enjoy the holiday with your family. Um that was the overall consensus was they liked that that nice break for their holiday. [clears throat] Otherwise, everything is kind of consistent with years before those inservice days, the open house in August. They have one floating day kind of throughout the summer that they are able
to use to kind of prepare, get their classrooms and and models ready for their school year. um starting a course after um September. [clears throat] Yeah, we have our our horse and cultural early release parent teacher conferences in October. Um Thanksgiving break, Christmas break. Then we have um our inservice day in January. and then a break in February. It's always nice to have those breaks in the spring of the year. Um our Easter break, break in April, our holiday off, our Memorial Day, and then last day being June 3rd. Any questions on calendar? >> Looks almost just like this year's. >> Yeah, it's very similar. >> Almost exact same thing. >> What's the magic number for many days the kids or the staff need to be here? >> So the students are 178 days and
[clears throat] the staff are 186. >> That is the date. That's like what they need to be >> the staff. Yep. They're contracted for the 186. Okay. >> And the 178 um perpi um they're required for so many minutes and that covers our minutes. >> Okay. Exceeds it. Yeah. >> Exceeds our minutes. Yeah. >> There's leeway in there for snow days. Let's put it that way. Yeah. And late start that we don't know. Pretty straightforward this conversation. >> All right, we'll move on to the superintendent report. >> Hey, um I kind of wanted to start out with um an email that I had received last week about our youth apprenticeship. Um, the email stated, "The lady's work is exemplary. They are fully aware of the progress of the students they oversee and have proactively planned
for the next group of candidates. In my professional opinion, they are more than ready for a program. What gets me inspired most is hearing them say, "We can even do better." So, I just wanted to recognize um Casey and Angie for um the email that was inspired by um Tom Martin is it leading apprenticeship. >> Um [clears throat] the survey did indeed go out. um I have sent it on to the student body um and I have not kind of analyzed or brought in um all of the different responses although in reading it was um very positive. Um so I'll be anxious to share all of that information with you all next month. Um, AI. I was um kind of preparing to do a presentation tonight because I think Scott had kind of asked for
um a better understanding of AI. So, I put together a PowerPoint, but since he wasn't here, I'll save that till next month as well. Um but just um with that understanding that um AI is a topic and um an interest I took Kent along with me to a meeting at CISA with Lisa Arnison where we kind of talked about what AI is, what AI is not. Um there we learned kind of the environmental impact that AI is having but then we have these scientists who are also on it. um similar to the car you know the cars and um so with a lot of positivity there's always some things to be weary of um so I will bring some of more of that information and kind of um an understanding about um the views and
the attitudes towards AI here at Kikapoo and how we kind of want to lead through that. Um I attended the WASDA meeting today and it was a lot about the different bills going in. Um and um referenced along with Aaron had sent a nice email today about the special education funding and um the concern which we I mean Allison did kind of prepare the budget to not assume that we were going to get the the full reimbursement. Um but ongoing conversation about that um along with some of the different bills that are are kind of going through right now and that has to do with um some of them are about communications and like grooming. Um so so putting forth some some guides on communication between staff and students. Um there was also about like
the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Um they wanted to mandate that they had um the abilities to come in and interrupt the instruction time. Um that didn't necessarily pass although they did say that we should allow them to come in and then not put them in a broom closet [laughter] like um so that was kind of the premise for that discussion. um with the mental health professionals. >> Yeah. And then talked about a couple different grants out there that I'm going to seek and one was on mental health type stuff and then um school security. So I'll look more into those grants and bring back some more information on that. They talked a lot about the get kids ready and the community 4K um programs. But that was meeting today. Um, and I think that's
all I have for you tonight. Any questions on anything that's that's going on? >> Great. >> Um, for the elementary, we had books for breakfast last Friday. Um, the holiday concert was supposed to be today, but will be next Wednesday just because uh, Katherine and Greg have the Katherine and Greg have given up some high school time to get ready for our elementary concert and to give up tomorrow would put them behind the eightball for Monday. So, we're going to do it Wednesday. Um, behavior data is way down in the elementary. Knock on wood. Every piece of wood you can see and or find. We'll do the act 20 testing in January for that reading stuff. The Christmas movie for the elementary is Friday. So, we're going since there is no longer a theater in
Veroa, they're going to Richmond Center, little kids in the morning and then the third, fourth and fifth in the afternoon. Um, the booster club had a movie night here also last Friday, which um, thank you to the booster club. It's another way to get families into the building. And then a number of organizations have reached out and are giving um to the kids at Kickaboo. The fire departments, the Westby Rod and Gun, Vernon County Sheriff's, the Richland County Hospital, and I think the booster club is too. They Katie Stinson does a great job of reaching out to families and um they have a sign up if they're in need and then we distribute the names anonymously so that people that are willing to donate know who and bring everything in here and then we'll get
it sent out to we'll get it delivered. Parents can come pick it up. So, um it's a really nice way to take the generosity of the community and make a nice Christmas for our kids. So, yeah, busy. Can't believe Christmas Eve is two weeks away, but we're gonna have a >> we're gonna have a busy week and a half here. So, we'll get through it. >> Yeah. >> All right. Uh, a few things. Uh, middle school and high school bandic choir concert is next Monday, so hopefully that will not get cancelled and have to be rescheduled. Um, we did a soft lockdown/classroom hold here last week. So, that's one of the things that we need to do each year. So, we went through that um and did that. Um, I had mentioned at the last
meeting, um, Willie from the sheriff's department was going to come and do an opioid training with the seniors, which he did. Um, I think it went very well. Um, I think it was interesting for him to go over just some of the things with that he deals with and the kids really, um, you know, they learned a lot, but also just some of the personal stories with things in the community and how things go and being aware of the drug aspect. And the last thing um just have been working and looking at um that growth aspect and the report card and trying to look at some of the target groups and things and analyzing data um of where we can um try to improve. So that's what I have. >> All right. Any questions from
the board? All right. With that and I guess we'll move on to item 11 for close session pursuing to Wisconsin state statute 19.851 851 regular C NG considering employment promotion compensation and performance evaluation data public employee over the government body as jurisdiction responsibility and confront [clears throat] with legal counsel for the government body who is rendering oral or oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation for which it's likely to become involved. So tonight we have the purposes of custodial positions and request. So with that take motions to make the session [clears throat] one second by Earl second by both. All in favor I >> correct that. Yeah. Thanks for coming. Thanks for coming. All right, I'm coming out of close session. Um, have a motion to
be made. Make a motion to approve Matthew Teller as a custodian. I'll second motion by Earl, second by Bo. All in favor? >> I post. All right. Motion to the chair. I'll do that, too. Barrel favor. battle the
