001welcome in sir arena devin dobeck alongside colin casey and we are excited for back-to-back nights of hockey and not to mention the game tomorrow but anyways the east long meadow spartans will take on the low lions colin coming in what do the spartans have to look out for with the lions well this lion's team's much improved from the year before uh they i think they only ended up with three wins in 2019 2020 and here they are this season with eight wins i believe coming into this game so uh different division for uh for sure um for ludlow compared to east song meadow we'll see how much of a difference it is between a team that's had success this season and a team like you saw metal that's trying to end a pretty lengthy winless
002streak absolutely i spoke with coach dan reed pre-gaming he said this is a must-win uh game for the team and obviously you think all of them are ludlow a division lower spartans you know needs some momentum when they got miniaturg on tap for tomorrow as cj calogy in the corner boards trying to get something going very low glass here at sierra arena haven't been here since the long meadow game last year and now dobeck behind the goal looking in front he's got hands as a wrap around lou keynes makes it one nothing early 29 seconds in colin yeah just 29 seconds all it took it was a quick dump in down the near side and haynes kind of just looked towards the net and realized nobody was on him so he decided to go for
003the quick wrap around caught everybody by surprise including tyler chares the goaltender so exactly the start you want if your coach dan reed won nothing early and yeah i spoke with coach reed and i i said listen i made a point i was like in the games luke haynes has scored there's they spartans have either they've come out with a point every time lou caines has scored um so that's something to look out for and great that he gets on the board early and we are on a iphone hotspot we had to do another last minute crunch um so we're on an iphone hotspot hopefully it's working out for you but yep uh shout out to dovex for having unlimited data or else we may not be bringing you hockey tonight because we are in

005the game yep interference the call all right i wonder if that's uh who it sure would but anyway spartans will go to the power play that'll be colby palmer the one going to the box captain dobeck line out there for the spartans and opposite of him will be ben corbin the leading scorer and i believe he has six colin we talked about pregame yes six he came in with another three others with five it's actually been pretty balanced scoring when you think about it four different players with five or more goals they make up for 75 percent of ludlow scoring but right now their main focus is to keep the deficit one as pretty good start to this penalty kill for the lions and corbin trying to kill some clock there and now good for

007been a really nice odd man rush for the spartans on the power play alec nero now winning the draw for the spartans we saw him playing wing last night he was the lone goal scorer for ellen meadow and sherwood was taking the draws but looks like they've gone back to the original plan i mean if you want to talk about a tough season for the spartans with just one win so far but alex nero a real bright spot for this team this season he's got four goals on the year yep yep so yeah definitely some confidence for the freshman heading on as speak of the devil he enters the zone and tries to get one on net very weak shot aiden fisher giving chase he's in a scrum with nick soja and now sherwood dropping
008it back down to row back out will flash a risha and a save made by cherist now wow that's kind of [ __ ] skips up there and then aiden fisher buries it to nothing east long meadow i think that's fisher's second of the year as he's able to sneak that one past the again i think ludlow just kind of slow to react as that puck came free right on the far side circle and fish are able to wrist it past charest who's off to a tough start this evening but yeah i mean this is by far the best start of the season i think for the spartans in any game they've played absolutely colin we're just two minutes and about 50 seconds in and spartans have a two goal lead with a lot of hockey left
009to play not something we've said very often they've had one two goal lead and obviously that miniature game that ended in heartbreaking fashion but also of one of the brighter spots in the spartan season as dobeck in front puck skips out to haines and now he tries to play it back for arnold but it's intercepted and we see a few turnovers there one of the good things to note for the spartans thus far they don't look tired after playing a game last night and having one tomorrow the energy level has been really impressive through this first almost five minutes and maybe a few confidence and you know that provides a little extra energy following the early quick goals but we'll take it now cuen in front nobody on the doorstep to finish that one and
010now haynes i'm not sure i think that was a shot but anyways bouncing puck in front you come back to o'brien he's tries to keep the zone unfortunately he's unable to and now with speed sam kochi flying in he takes a spill he's slow to his feet now fisher another freshman and wakar and now clark in a battle with arnold and the corner boards lions trying to make something happen in the offensive zone but nero comes away with the loose puck he makes a move around one man and pucks intercepted by pereira and then lifted out of play i'm not sure what i wonder how delay a game works with boards that are so short colin yeah i mean at the uh at the amateur level there is no delay of game plan i believe
011they treat it just like in icing as they do at the college level so far and i honestly like that rule because there's it's delay a game so rare and you it's so hard to really be able to lift the puck out of play in in an attempt to get your team a face off but if you haven't played it's just an icing that's penalty enough you got tired legs on the ice you can't make the change the advantage still stays with the attacking zone team yeah great points made there as la flesh trying to spin it back in sure wood tapping it to narrow looking in fisher again that one whizzes by on the short side ludlow trying to make something happen spartans have been pretty much in control which is which feels really

016that one is stopped and held on to yeah i think that was that that ended up getting stuck in tourists uh equipment there you had trouble controlling it but kind of bobbled around and he was able to have it but not exactly what you want if you're the goaltender you got another defensive zone draw coming and the last one resulted in an immediate goal from braden dobeck now chad o'brien from the point one way wide fisher the first one there and sure with a little body laid there and then a shot on goal by nero he was in tight nothing doing there three-nothing spartans if you are just joining us you missed quite a lot and travis arnold making a few deep moves travis arnold sticking with it unfortunately finally turns it over and now
017a break for the lions brandon gomes a bomb and it's gloved and saved by colin sherwood a couple of great opportunities for both teams one just created by arnold i mean some phenomenal dekes through the neutral zone able to get it all the way through and then the puck got knocked off his stick led to gomes going the other way on the breakaway but sherwood looking really sharp despite not getting a lot of action in this first period makes the easy save on a pretty healthy looking shot from brandon gomes and sherwood coming off a night with 43 saves and on 49 shots and let me tell you five of the six maybe even six out of the six there was nothing he could have done about just some absolute rockets from in tight and
018redirects and all sorts of crazy stuff and it came last night and great rivalry old school game we saw a physical game and if you hung with us you know what we're talking about dobek trying to work it to cue and cross ice he gets hooked a little bit and now in a scrum in the sideboards a lot of activity going on kalodi trying to break it out for the spartans he gets it over to kun they stay on side teddy kun leaves it for dobeck go back tapping it to garvey now kuhn finding kaloji or haynes rather behind the net and that one will go for an icing and we'll take it all the way back to the ludlow zone six minutes to go period one spartans with a three-nothing lead another defensive zone
019draw for ludlow although they got a couple of decent shifts strung together after that third goal we'll see if it leads to any momentum they've got that breakaway opportunity and here they come up ice once again with numbers now travis arnold behind his own net makes a deke moving gets by a man arnold working it up to nero nero loses it and the leading scorer corbin can't hang on to it in the neutral zone fisher definitely got caught offside there and still there but we'll get the draw 37 to go period one ludlow trying to get some momentum shifted their way oh sherwood and now corbin leaves it for sanderson and arnold comes away with a loose puck and fires one on net it's tipped way up and way out of play you gotta think
020colin as you were telling me pre-game what is it gonna take for them to make these boards higher or add some netting because yeah these pucks fly all over the place let me tell you i think the boards and glass combined for everywhere except a couple of the corners have a little bit of an extension there where it looks to normal height but they can't be more than six seven feet tall they're they're not very big i would say six feet tall max yeah [Music] and i believe we're going to get it offside so we'll do it outside the blue line and this is an interesting matchup if you think about the what the path both teams took going into this game where you saw meadows been facing some really tough opponents including three games
021against minichog and going o2 and one against them it seems to be building character with this team and realizing hey they have to work for every inch against minute jog they're right now working for every inch against ludlow and it's paying off and kurtz turns it over now kaloji trying to do it himself still looking for his first goal of the season i believe he had one last year and clojie ludlow trying to swing one in front of the net mouth nobody home now corbin trying to do it himself what the lions have relied on all season they haven't had much to show in period one i believe sherwood stopped maybe two pucks tonight one got by him don't know how that didn't go in the net but and that really could have changed the
022complexion of that game because that took place before the schools yeah haynes takes a dive and i think it might have actually been the before the first goal too it was really early on i'm trying to remember well we scored like 20 seconds in so fisher walking in and aiden fisher goes top cheddar for his second of the game four nothing east long meadow just a really well aimed shot and i think for jurassic one you might want to have back because anytime you get beat from a a decent length you want to you want to have that one back simply and does it it's insult to injury when it ends up being a a four-nothing game with still four minutes left in the first but again a lot of time left and we'll see
023if the spartans are able to keep up this momentum and take it take the shutout i should say in the first intermission nero tied up with grainfield now he's trying to make something happen lions trying to break it out pyre is unable to receive that one fischer dumps it in and avoids the hit aidan fisher having a probably his best game thus far enough just for the two goals he's kept his head up and and been playing some of his best hockey maybe a little confidence after you get a goal but he looks like a new guy out there yeah i think he also had another shot or two in addition to the goalie sport so he's been positionally in the right places and he's certainly gotten reward for them so far in this first
024and now walking in unfortunately it hops over the stick of car bad break for the lions there is he the car was in all alone and so was joseph pires on that rebound he was on that back post and he couldn't get the backhand through there as you're gonna stop it here that the puck was tied up on the far corner board so both teams will get some fresh flagged on the ice so let me do some math here colin spartans have scored if i'm not mistaken nine goals this season and four four so 13 now period so they have almost a third of their scoring coming in this game and we're only in the first period lou kane's walking in that one skips by on the far side the flesh gets burned and now
025ludlow trying to gain some speed but we'll flash all 250 pounds of him are not gonna let you box him out and lions just learned that that is a solid dude and haynes lays a big hit feeling that one with steel and now cune trying to make something to happen nolan will carr getting it back to steal and now a car dumping it in two minutes to go period one ludlow looks really gassed so far in this first period it's clear that they haven't played i think a team with that is as well conditioned as the spartans have been part of that's just because of the competition they've gone up against they've faced some really fast teams and it shows and walking into row now fischer trying to work it to caloji he gets it
026there unfortunately grandfield there and he swings it out of the zone and that one goes into the penalty bench this series just so many i would not want to play here man i'll tell you yeah that's certainly frustrating and not only that not just the penalty bench not having any glass but the shorter glass all around for defenseman when you're trying to clear the puck out to the neutral zone you got to be able to keep it on a lower trajectory which is certainly going to take at least a period i think for these guys to adjust to i'm surprised we haven't seen more pucks flying out of play now ludlow opportunity trying to be generated but spartans are going to have a two on one up ice alec nero sure would caught offside i

028to granfield in front unfortunately palmer unable to receive that one 30 seconds to go arnold trying to chop it and now kyung and walking in now another shot rebound that was dobeck on the shot and now calogi dumping it in ten seconds ago throwback wins the race now leflash trying redirected by kuhn and two one first period will come to a conclusion spartans with their best period all season up four nothing on the ludlow lions on the back of goals by haines fisher times two and dobeck wow colin any thoughts after that first period well the main thing to take away from that first fear the performances of those top two lines i mean you got two goals from uh from that first line of hanes and dobeck and then fisher on the second line
029i believe picking up the other two goals so when you've got top six forwards playing at that high level it's no surprise that the spartans come out to an early and big lead now the question is are they going to get complacent are they able to keep that fire going and when you're a team coming in that's only got one on the season you're taking every period you can to really just kind of push this team out of out of com competition really in this game and that's exactly what the spartans need to do in the second is they can't the good thing about not having intermission is really just a time out essentially so they can go right back out there and keep that momentum going without actually having to keep you know keep
030that motivation through 10-15 minutes of rest time so if you're the spartans just hey keep doing what you're doing and you're going to find yourselves with an even bigger lead after two periods absolutely colin we've been enjoying it i'm sure code three has two after uh frustrating game against minute jog and then coming off that uh well i mean it was one one going into period three so you know something had to be going right first period didn't go too well second period spartans actually outshot minichog nine to seven which was pretty impressive considering what it's been like all season um but then you know third period unfortunately they collapsed but spartans being resilient having a game today coming in getting four goals in the first period great start for them best all season and
031you know it's great momentum for these guys heading into tomorrow with miniature you know miniature hasn't been a team the past couple games that's really blown them out early and if the spartans can jump on the falcons early like they did uh in the second meeting with them who knows what could happen tomorrow we're looking forward to that i know i'm looking forward to that as we're looking to wind things down here and head on to period two colin what this friends need to keep doing to keep pedal to the metal and hang on here uh the the four check has been really impressive so far i think that's one thing to to look out for towards the end of the period especially i don't think they ended up scoring but there was numerous chances

033they had a lot of time with cove it had no public skate anymore but anyway car trying to look down low unfortunately too much for corbin to handle and now cj calogy the captain behind the boards la flesh rips one around luke haynes gonna have a burst of speed trying to generate a chance blue canes can't touch a pass to accara great back check by him in order to break up the two on one for the spartans now in neutral ice trying to get some speed sam kochi now liu kane's walking in he fires one low and wide now la flash cune trying to leave it back in dove skating hard he's able to win the puck away and he hangs on to it la flesh now keeping the zone go back down to kun

039in and ripping it way over the net brandon combs another prolific score for the lions he's had a couple of chances tonight hasn't been able to capitalize just yet that one skitters through the crease garvey hannah trying to clear the zone now the flash kendrick la flesh wrapping it around the boards and now walking in granfield shot was deflected by o'brien could have been costly for the spartans but they get bailed out granfield flails at that shot attempt run into by sherwood and another shot goes over the glove and wide on the far side of sherwood that one hops over the glass trying to catch it and bring it back into place with car you can do your best ken griffey jr impersonation at this class and try to take one back from going over
040but not quite able to do so that time 8 29 to go period to spartans still shutting out the lions 4 nothing you're watching spartans hockey live on lcat we're happy to have you on board on friday night i'm sure there's no place you'd rather be right now than watching spartans hockey they're a real hand pass there yep so yeah these look the lines thwarted but still i've liked what i've seen from ludlow in the second period uh reminds me i think of the spartans in the third period a few weeks back in that rough game they had against minichog where things hadn't been going their way but they were able to take a you know play a strong final period that'd be something to take out of it and maybe a strong final two
041periods is what ludlow needs to really get back right into it when they get back into uh divisional play against some of the opponents that they've had a lot of success against this year now in a row he loses it in the offensive zone cology rips one and looks like came into sanderson pretty good and now knocking down but narelle able to bury it aiden fisher what an assist mate as he was getting knocked down and aiden fisher with his third point of the evening and alec nero with his fifth of the season at number five for the freshman and all set up really by a great play i think by nero to knock the puck down out of midair then he went straight to the front of the net he was in perfect spot
042to fire that puck home and definitely a bright future for him with three more years of eligibility i think he's only going to get better as time goes on yep and now in front lions trying to make something happen corbin and now cross ice kurtz unable to hang on to that one spartans catch a break there yes certainly did i think if he was able to get a one-timer on that sherwood wouldn't have even seen the puck and it would have been five to one as this puck ends up in the bleachers i mean if there was fans here someone could probably be going to the hospital luckily that one didn't come in too hot and i guess you know it's it is high school level thankfully it's not like you know division one college

045in favor of the east long meadow spartans and colin coming in i was not expecting it to be this much of a gap between the two teams ludlow having a strong year from everything i've heard coming in so definitely unexpected but spartans will take the five nothing lead now calogi spinning it back hanes trying to get there but unfortunately picard wins the race the flash keeping the zone haynes will collect it in the corner boards he spins away from a defender and making another move now dobeck with it behind the net he i think got caught on some snow and he lose it he retains possession after absorbing the hit and now trying to spin away haynes not on the same wavelength with him and spartans turn it over hannah flips it back into the

052against agawam in game one but that's pretty much all the scoring we've seen i mean as you said colin more than half their scoring all season being shown here at sierra arena spartans lead the lions five nothing goals once again were from two from aidan fisher one from liu kane's one from braden dobeck and alec nero adding his fifth of the season colin i mean what do we credit the spartan success through this game that hasn't been going their way in the games prior this season well certainly the the rushes have been a lot cleaner throughout this game i mean honestly the second period i think could have been a little bit better if you're coach reed i think you might have wanted a little bit better uh line changes granted this is that this
053was a period of the long line change with both benches on the far side of the ice so i think that took the spartans a little bit getting used to but they've started to get into a rhythm later on in the period they were able to get the goal from nero but there's definitely some room for improvement if you're the spartans you want to have a really good third period to build on and go into that fourth match up against miniature they certainly seem like they've gotten better every single game against shaw they had that opportunity to win they ended up squandering it ended up tying uh in that second game and even the third game 1-1 going into the third period so they've proven that they can hang with the falcons the important thing
054is to have a complete game tonight and then have another one tomorrow that way who knows what i mean if you look into you know whatever next season might hold with a lot of this young team coming back if you can finish strong season with some quality wins against opponents like minichog then you're setting yourself up for long-term success for your coach reading the spartans yeah colin and there's been a lot of skepticism around the spartans team here throughout the season with you know you know do they have what it takes to play with these other teams in western mass and you know they've been put to the test um you know on the hot seat um but nevertheless they've you know given their all game in game out and here they are against ludlow
055up with a five-nothing lead they've hung with miniature the past two games you gotta think that things are starting to fall into place for the spartans so to speak they got two games in the next three days with miniature and then westfield on monday looking forward to that one as well they haven't faced the bombers this year um but yeah i mean and you've got to kill a lot of it coach reed as well you know firing up his guys he's never one that's gonna back down and and also probably the hardest on himself as well as his team and you know he he tries to not take any positives away all he uh thinks about is what can i work on what can we do to make our team better um so you know
056that mentality that winning mentality and improving mentality is um what is going to help the spartans and you know they got a young group as we've touched on a lot of freshmen and sophomores so you know two and three more years with this core group um of course you're gonna lose the captain and kaloji and john kuhn who we figured out was running the scoreboard um will also be gone but you're gonna get aiden asher back so you're gonna have your top two lines intact colin a lot of positive and upside to look out for but any final thoughts heading into the third period for the spartans to keep rolling into miniature tomorrow uh yeah if they can take that final i would say three four minutes that they played in the second period and
057apply it to the final 15 minutes of this game i'll really like where they're going at going into that uh that game tomorrow against minute chalk the the first period was exceptional and i think that's you know the best period the spartans have played this year the reality is they're not they're probably not going to have a period like that against minichog where they're able to score four goals against a team that's so fundamentally sound in the falcons so they can get a couple of goals here in this in this period and also keep the shutout intact in the third then you gotta have about as much confidence as you can going into a big matchup against a team you've lost well you've lost twice to and you've tied a game that you probably should

060were there in the second period for the lions big difference is can they capitalize them on them in the third period and try to cut into this five goal deficit man he's he's opposite of course corbin top line center for the lions lion's trying to make something going shots ripped around by cochi now dobeck and haynes together on a two on one dobeck walking in and rips one extremely um far on the inside nowhere near the net and now lions trying to just get anything on net as curt just launches one from outside the blue line steve eiser and special right there but usually eyes i'm gonna go top shelf on that one spartans kind of get lucky there ludlow demand all alone while the spartans were changing out and if the defenseman picked up

067bench fischer gloves it down [Music] even strength of course and across ice pass knocked down by arnold and now ludlow the other way with speed walking in and sherwood comes up big stoning ethan clark 9 35 to go third period of action spartans close to their second win of the season this tom garvey takes a little slide there now kuhn picking off the pass backhander on net rebound loose garvey walking in throws one down into the boards now nero in front looking for garviana kun teddy kun number one of high school someone grabbed that puck and that all started with a smart play by garvey i think it was as the puck was coming towards him at the blue line he could have tried driving down a net through traffic but instead he throws it
068into the corner and it leads to the opportunity that's set up and of course q and able to capitalize and to touch down for the spartans are most goals on the in a single game on the season now with six and we still got 909 left in this one now ludlow in the corner cune trying to lift it out to garvey hannah he couldn't handle that one a lot of bodies on the far side of the ice now arnold lays a big hit in the corner boards now doveck with a burst of speed around the goal leaves it off for kun kun too much on the pass from gobek welcar sends it back in the other way now a car walking in and delayed penalty ludlow will go back to the power play at this
069time it'll be a holding call the guilty party for the spartans will wait but still nothing yet the goalie was skating to the bench for the lions and it looks like it's going to be dobeck have a nice conversation about that one in the car ride homes he can walk home actually he's still talking about it so he's go back two for holding spartans back to the kill now loose puck in front comes in sure and he covers that now i know the goal scored is definitely a bright spot in the period but i think coach reid's not going to like the penalties i've seen already too so far in this period after a really clean first two periods so that's something that that would put that's that's something that would put the spartans in
070a real big hole against miniature if they find themselves short-handed early and often now corbin cross ice finding his teammate pereira shot on goal save sherwood i think he's got to have at least 12 to 15 saves tonight yeah it's not like it's been a completely quiet night he's the lions didn't get a whole lot in the first period but since then they found a little bit of a rhythm offensively and they they certainly haven't been able to capitalize there've been some a couple of times where you just were surprised they didn't score but they're gaining confidence against a an opponent in a higher division and i think if they were able to play another game against the spartans tomorrow we would see a much closer deficit minute to go on the dobeck minor for
071holding and a bomb coming in that one almost found its way through big shot by ryan kurtz and now finally cleaning up the loose changes sam kochi lyons on the board on the power play yeah you have to see a replay but i think he just kind of lofted it back towards net and it went off of sherwood skate and then that's a tough one if you're a goaltender especially in a shutout there he probably wishes he'd peeked over his shoulder and seen where that puck was coming but sometimes that's all you need for if you're if you're ludlow to get get a little bit of confidence going they had that one a little bit earlier but just a puck thrown towards net and finally the lions are on the board dobeck winning the draw
072to arnold garvey hannah out with dobeck and you know who i haven't seen his hanes in a while i wonder what the story is with that i'm trying to look for him on the bench but anyways garvey able to hang on to that one arnold goes into the boards very awkwardly and everybody taking a gasp there slow to his feet but up is colby palmer yeah it goes right to the bench but i think it might just be a uh i think his coach is just like yeah we're gonna give you a breather after that one i don't want you going back out that oh what a huge hit yeah wow getting crunched teddy kun by thomas deroyne branfield trying to run into cune and a shot comes in on sherwood pad save 6 15
073to go and now derain shot wide garvey hannah trying to collect it and he will and then he loses it sure would playing it for arnold and now another shot from macar puck comes free and very soft shot from nick soja sure would able to cover that one up 5 46 to go period three yeah not taking any chances this time as we got some words being exchanged before nolan wicker goes to the bench and now nero trying to do well on the forecheck fisher will be forced to dump it in with a delayed offside still off still didn't reset and now fischer knocks it down slings it back in sherwood regroups now the flash fisher he's able to retain it after absorbing the hit he gets knocked down again and it [ __ ] is sent
074in sherwood will oh what happened behind the play i was looking at sherwood a couple of conversations going on a couple cross checks one of them was sam kochi and things are really starting to break down right now in the final six or seven minutes and fisher takes a dirty hit just as you were saying that colin so who knows what's about to happen but spartan bench and coach reed not happy and nero lays a hit on jeez his body's flying everywhere joe pyre is absorbing that one yeah the hope is that it doesn't boil over but sometimes you get so many of these hits in rapid succession and then someone goes for the home run and ends doesn't end too pretty so yeah geez 4 33 to go period three dobeck winning it o'brien
075now it comes in front sherwood gets a stick on it and pops it up now there's luke haines now doe back a potential two on one with teddy kun dobek walking in shot and it goes wide and dobeck goes into the boards now hanes trying to walk in lou kane's loses the puck and it comes out to the neutral zone aiden fisher fresh out of the bench is able to retain it for the spartans well brian fires a pass to do back dobeck takes a hit in an awkward area of the ice yeah that that's the that's the max patch ready area where he got rode off into the dasher back in 2011. dobeck on the doorstep a lot of bodies and spartans swatting at it trying to get it in there and here we

082ring a few extra buzzers there so great job by them we're looking forward to seeing aiden back on skates once that ankle injury clears up and john of course the senior but anyways column spartans kind of end on a on a great note i mean the first period you know an absolute flurry with four goals they finished with a score of six one um what do they need to do i mean we've we've talked about this a lot but heading into miniature big game uh what do they need to do well they need to play a full uh was 45 minutes in in this game because you looked coming into this into this matchup today they had nine goals on the season four in the first three in the second and two in the third
083so it seemed like they've been running out of gas towards the end and you know we're gonna pick up a goal in this third period but i think it's clear that the first period was best period in the game of season long they're going to have to play every single one of those periods against minute chalk like that first period if they want to have a chance against them and they've had great periods against minichalk i mean they've they've been in position to win two of these three games that they've had against them so far including a lead with less than three minutes to go um the important thing is if they can just maintain that momentum out of a first a strong first period if they're able to you know come out of the
