First item on the agenda is delegations. That's just me. All right. So, I had planned to come talk about the cheer coach position, but since that was pulled off the agenda, I'm available all week if anybody wants to talk to me as to why I have an issue and I can explain it a lot better privately because I was going to have to ask for executive session. But if you want to know what my issues are, I'm available all week. But what I would like to discuss is the hiring process and the hiring committee especially for athletics. The process out there is made up of people who never darken the door of an athletic event. They do not understand the needs or the way things work or what a coach should possess. And they often
just see the shiny picture on the outside. They don't ever get to see what people are actually like when nobody's looking. Which is why I always try to give my opinion. This last round of hiring for William and who's the other one on the Homer is on the agenda. >> I asked them to pick one because four coaches for a middle school softball team has it extremely topheavy. There's only 14 girls. They don't need four coaches. And my biggest fear is that's going to lead to a lot of controversy, a lot of athletes leaving the sport because if the coaches are fighting, who wants to play? And you have some very big personalities already in that position. So now adding two more big personalities. I fear that this is going to end horly, which is
why I asked the hiring committee to pick one. They went ahead and did what they wanted and they're not the ones who will end up in front of the entire public as the person to come to. I'm the one that takes the blame for everything that goes wrong with athletics. Everything is my fault. If there's a hiccup, it comes to me. If there's a fight, it comes to me. It never goes directly to the coaches. I'm the one playing buffer between the coaches and the parents and the parents and the officials. When we get a topheavy situation, it's going to be nothing but drama. And I don't do I can't deal with adults fighting because we're adults. We shouldn't be fighting. So, I don't know what you want to do about that because they're on
the agenda to be hired this evening. And I really don't know what else to do with it because I know that it's a lot harder to get rid of people than it is to appoint people. And the other thing I have for the evening is I would like to request money out of the levy to reimburse the athletic department for the cost of resurfacing the gym floors. When I agreed to use athletic funds to resurface the gym floors, it was with an agreement of all the teams that use the indoor facilities. Each team pitched in $500. The athletic department, both middle and high school, pitched in like over $1,000 and the boosters gave 1,500. We had one team that frequently uses the indoor facility that refused to pay and they are now in flex season
using hard baseballs and damaging the floor. They've monopolized the entire auxiliary gym causing inseason athletes to have to either cancel practice practice late or not or practice out in the hallways or down the fifth grade hallway. I don't think that athletics should pay for a facility that's technically a classroom because the kids the school uses it more than the athletics use it. And then when we have agreements that if the teams don't help and it was very known that if the teams didn't help pay that they were not permitted to use the indoor facilities. We have outdoor facilities just that you can use anything outside but this stuff is it costs almost $10,000 to resurface these floors. And when they didn't agree to help, I sent out an email because they started using the indoor
facility. I'm like, "Listen, you can't do that. You didn't help with the floor. Well, I got shut down immediately. You're not allowed to tell them you they can't do that." Which, you know, I get it. But there and it would have been different if their team didn't have funds. But other teams who had less funds graciously gave without an issue because the floors needed resurfaced. And I mean we have more money now in the athletic department than we did at the start of the year. But that's why all the teams agreed to pay because there was no way with the athletic funds I could have covered it. And now they're in there tearing it up. And I don't know what else to do other than see if we can use some of the levy money
for the facilities, upgrades, maintenance to help cover it because I don't think we should have had to pay for it if nobody's going to treat it with respect. >> How much did you request per team? 500 of every gene that actively facilities >> boosters gave 15. >> That's right. Just we schedu and I don't know what you want to do with the other stuff. But we'll see what we want to do. So >> any further you have anything that time and see what >> um the next item is board acknowledgements. >> Do you have any plans? >> No. Jason, >> I just um been out here during a few of the activities, seeing a lot of the older kids interacting with the younger kids and stuff, helping out with practices, the weekly games, stuff like
that, wrestling tournaments, whatever. I think it's good to see all the kids out helping out. I see 17 or 18 teams that might stop the invitation. Yeah, I was just going to reiterate what uh Jason was saying. I attended the wrestling matches and uh saw Jason's daughter do a great job and uh you know the kids were actually uh you know I was really not amazed but uh it was great to see as many teams that we had you know during the weather condition and also the number of uh students I mean uh the weight classes because in the past we've always had to struggle with the way passes and I've attended, you know, some of the other sporting events, uh, middle school girls basketball team, which is exciting. And, uh, you know, they, uh,
>> finished third this season. >> Yeah, they came in third. And >> also, I wanted to acknowledge the two students that did real well in our science. you know they uh bus she took third at Parkersburg and I remember I was the one judging both at Pleasant Hill and also at school. So so I knew that she had a lot of promise. She was very very articulate in what she was doing and which is really an honor because the kids learn how to actually communicate and uh they can talk about their project which makes a lot of good. So I was very excited about that when I heard that she did well and there was another student I think she took honorable mention. So uh we got some great kids you know in the system
and you know as far as athletics uh you know I can understand where Whitney comes from because it's a job you know it's tough job and uh you know trying to keep everything in order and uh getting scheduled out there. So any help that we can give her, I think we should greatly appreciate that. Thank you. >> Um the only thing I'll say is uh I know that it's always not the most um thank you. you don't get the most for the job, but whoever it was that was doing uh checks of the road during all the weather, I appreciate it because each was like not it wasn't very easy to traverse and I for one worried about the bus because I have met a couple of people and went all over the place in
a four-lb drive. So, I appreciate whoever gets out and checks those roads because and that's a hard call to make because you want kids in school. You want, you know, buses to run, but also you want to keep everybody safe. So, >> it's Joe and I, it's not fun. Um, I think I drove Sassy Crash. I come down Amarite Hill there by church. It's nothing. >> Yeah. >> So, but and it's not it's it's all decisions are hard. >> Yeah. Um because you want kids here, but then and you cancel school. Then once I cancel school, then she starts texting me like, "What can we do? Can we go?" >> So now, you know, now we're all right. We know we know we're not in school. You can't get buses there. What's it going to
look like at >> 2 or 3:00? Like, can we semi function in the afternoon? So now we start doing it doing it all over again. Like, you know, can we get kids in to practice a little bit? you know, maybe not make it mandatory, like if you get out, get out. If not, then don't worry about it. And they'll punish kids. So then then my our partner start blowing up like, "Can we practice? Can we go to a game?" You know, the other team said we can play like it looks like two counties over. So right you start making phone calls with like other counties like you know what what what do things look like? So >> and I appreciate a lot of process goes into it. A lot of stress goes into it. I
think even some of the bus drivers. I know Chris Lacy isn't too busy. >> Yeah. >> Well, I know Trish always messages and she's like, "Jennop, what's beach like?" And I'm like, "Yeah, that's what it's like." >> Yeah. It was Clarence and Donna that I met one day and they were in a buggy and came around that turn there at the the trailer where the turn is before the cemetery and I was all over. It's like because it just wasn't. >> Yeah. You can have Jason. I mean, Jess parked off the hill and I feel walk up to hit my hill and go get her drive. >> There's still ice on my driveway. >> There just's very little, but there's still a little bit left. >> It's only where they parks. [laughter] >> Well, yesterday
morning walking up to the barn before we went to feed, I put my dog in the kennel. I thought this dog making me fall because it's slick. Fell twice without him, but he didn't jump on top of me while I was down. So, it was good. All right. The next item on the agenda is the approval of the January 12th, 2026 minutes. Do I have a motion for that? >> Do I have a second? >> All those in favor say I. >> I oppose. That motion carries. Um the next item is discussion and reports. Captain Gilmer Car. Yeah, I've got a couple of uh things that I want to, you know, pan out and uh basically just got a cop for all the members. Yeah, there's uh two sides to it. One deals with the
Gilmer uh schools uh and the other one is for Calhoun. And you know, that was always one of my concerns. Uh how do we treat the students that uh you know when we have a three-hour delay here uh you know the morning class, how are they uh taken care of at the academy? So this gives kind of an explanation, you know, what they're actually doing. So the morning students are not left out. They still get some instruction. So it's not like uh you know they uh have nowhere to go. So they are also uh involved uh even though it's shorter but at the same time they're they're still involved which I think is a good thing because that I even uh asked the director you know what was the issue on that and I think
this is a good uh good start. So, at least they're aware that uh yeah, they're not going to be left out. So, they do have a class over there. And uh one of the other items that uh I really appreciated was uh Mini Hamilton, you know, taking the initiative. And you'll see I didn't make copy of this. It's kind of a what did it say? Calhoun Gilmer Career Center Health Occupations Class and what they're doing uh they have an agreement with Calhoun Gilmer the career center health occupation classes here and after school and mini Hamilton health system uh hospital nursing home agency here and after agency whereas the agency and the school have agreed to joinly participate in a program in which health occupation students of the school may acquire clinical experience in the in
the through or and through the facilities of the agency which is a great thing because it's like a co-op thing. So where they can actually go and uh have practical experience. So this is really a a a great item and uh you know and any of the programs over there. They're always trying to uh you know improve uh being at the conference this weekend. This past weekend, you know, there was discussions about career center, what they play in the whole, you know, uh, teaching and also, uh, how they can provide, you know, the good, uh, how you would say it, you know, job opportunities. And, you know, there was one board member who, uh, stood up and said, uh, you know, they started this program for eighth graders to come in and I didn't raise
my hand. I said, you know, Calon has been doing that for a long time. You know, we actually allow the students to come over there and actually look at each class and kind of get an experience or see what's available to them. So when they are at the time to actually uh you know apply for the career center they know that these are the uh you know the programs that are available and are they interested or not and it also gives them an opportunity and this is the thing that they also mentioned at that it gives the students an opportunity to experience something they may want or may not want. So in that sense and I did get up and I said you know we're talking about funding and I says yeah you know give
us more money and so so we can provide more of that and uh he says well you know there's $45 million someplace that uh in the system and I don't know where it's going. So uh you know Jason's company and there's other companies that are willing partners with the career center and that's what we're looking for. But it's great. It's great. So any help that we get from the community and uh you know they're talking about things that uh you know we as board members can do possibly you know in the community uh you know get the word out that uh you know these are the things that are available and uh you know we need to have participation and so hey anytime that uh you know I can speak for career center school because
the school's important start out uh so that's all I podcast. >> Thank you. You have your questions and respects. >> All right. You have your directors and school reports. um in front of you. Um instruction and curriculum, first and second benchmarks, um EL ELA, um fifth grade, um they all did good, but um the middle high school, um or we we usually see some hiccups. Um especially middle school Pleasant Hill and Arnold, they really do a good job um with their benchmarks and hitting them there. We usually have a lag at the middle school level. Benchmark one and benchmark two at ELA. Fifth grade went up 15%. Second grade 2% fourth grade 54% seventh grade eighth grade 7%. In math from benchmark one to benchmark two. Fifth grade math went up 33%. Sixth grade math
went up 35%. 10th grade for seventh grade went up 10%. Eighth grade went up 15%. So it's good seeing that. We have several classes above the state average which is also good. So, um, it's glad to seeing some of those kids hard work pay off, which is why it's important being in school and why attendance matters and we try to push that initiative. So, as we prep for the GSA and the SAT test, um, I know that it seems like we just started um the third nine week, second semester. Um we had several days off but um I mean we're sitting February 16th and March will be here soon. So before you know it's April May and school's over with. So this last few weeks last few weeks are going to go by fairly quick
and we're going to be you know dressed up really nice for graduation. So you know we're trying to you know get everything nailed down and and also prepared for next year and we have a meeting tomorrow to work on some master schedules and some other stuff moving into next year. um with all the principles. So, always moving forward. Um attendance um you know, really good. Um it's no secret that the stomach bug hit really hard again. Um just is what it is. Um I was really hoping that Christmas break and then the the 10 or the 13 days off snow would slow it down a little bit. It didn't. Um it just stay ramping but we're still sitting at about chronic absence at 15.98% which is not terrible. Um still below the state where they
want you at 20%. Our overall tennis rate 93.76. So not bad. We finished last year at 13.38. So we're hanging we're hanging around that chronic tennis average what we did last year. We made some great gains. So some good things there. um current updates. Um getting ready to start the um SBA project for the new chillers. As matter of fact, the new ch the new air conditioner chiller is already set in place. Took the old one out, put the new one in. Um so they will start the on the chiller process since right now we don't need air conditioning. So they will start that process and once the cold weather ends then they'll flip over and start tearing down the boilers and cutting and taking them piece by piece and putting in some new boilers
um for there and then the units on top of the roof the wrenching units. Um so that that project has slowly started but we'll rev up in the next couple months. Um so it's going to be interest to see how they get the boilers in that room. So, I'm pretty sure that the original boilers, the room was built around them because they're they're massive. Um, so I mean they're they're big units. I mean, they probably go from that beam to that that wall and as tall as that ceiling. They are two very big units. Um, so I know they're about to [clears throat] take them apart and cut them up and get them out. So, I'm curious how they're gonna get new ones in. Um, but that's what the engineers report. So, um that is
that those days are going on. We should um be see we should see some equipment um being dropped off the next few weeks for the baseball and softball lights. Um, and when Boston was here one day last week, um, when this process gets done, we will be the only high school in the soft high school baseball softball field in the state of West Virginia. Um, that had to have these lights. Um, so they can change colors, they put on a show. So when I guess the new terminology is when the kids hit dingers, a show can the show can happen at night time. So >> it'll all run from a little pad computer program. So >> he's gonna have a little more fun. >> So if you want like per se if you like their
song is inner sand man that you play that song and the lights would be too beat to sand. >> And the crazy part is that's just the cost of what they are now. So it wasn't mean if you just got regular LED lights. It wasn't the meanest. So it's all the programming. So it it it's gonna be cool for the kids. Um so the now um which makes their life a little bit easier. So now they can schedule a game instead of playing at three o'clock at the sun sets or and and they got to get here. They got be done by five, you can now play a game at five and play a double head if you choose to. >> Um then or you know if you can you can have a high school
game and middle school game the same day and so it's easier to to schedule games. You're trying to pick what day you're playing high school baseball and what day you're playing middle school baseball or vice versa softball. So, you know, when you're you're sharing the same field, no lights and darks are cut off, it makes it hard. I've lived that life and and I I know what she's going through trying to schedule a game because we can never host a double header unless it's on a Saturday. >> Should make scheduling a little easier. >> Should make scheduling a little bit easier, a >> little. >> So, you can play some double headers. You can start games a little later. Um, so you don't have to play a game right at 3:30 or 3 o'clock, you
know, which helps the opposing team, they don't have to leave at noon to come play noon. Um, but also I think it's going to help benefit on Friday night football game or Thursday night, we'll flip them things on too, so we don't have kids sneaking off in the dark dugout. So like the whole ridge will be lit lit up. So um, you know, and and these are safe lights. um we we make sure that they coordinated with you know dark skies coordinates a lot of stuff but no different than our football lights even when our football lights are turned on by themselves it still affects them so you know I've had phone calls like with Mr. West ball name, hey, I know you have a home game. Um, but can you just wrap up as
fast as you can to get the lights off? We'll try our best. Let's just pray for no triple overtime. [laughter] We will try our best. So, but you know, it it's cool because it when our team goes and plays, every other field around us has it has this opportunity. We don't. So, you know, now now they have something that every other kid has. I mean, we had baseball and softball likes that went on field in Greensville. Now that Now we can probably get some legislation updates. It's been a uh odd eerie session. Um it's not been there's nothing been like on the bus or there's nothing been nothing loud or they're not voting over anything. I don't know what's on their agenda. Nobody does. Um, it's been trying to just been passing bills and quiet,
but um, I did introduce a bill today, 5453. Um, and the good news about it today is Speaker Anshaw has his name tied to this bill. Um, now the one thing that scares the committee is it's a block grant. So, what they're going to do is say, "Here's your lump sum on the money. you spend it. But the thing that's in this grant or this bill that helps us is the magic number, 1200. So the funding formula is set the floor set, 1200. So the thing that we've been hoping for and he told me over the last couple years like we're gonna get we're gonna talk funding formula. We're gonna talk funding formula. We're gonna make mass changes. Let's so and so this year was the year that they were going to do it. So
the funny mil bill is there and [clears throat] there is a magic number and it's 1,200 that's in the bill and during the committee day they talk about everything else other than that number. So which is a good thing. So like leave that number alone right and I have like 1400 I'll take 1,200 because that lets us know where we're at every year. So I guess it's a base that's more than what we're getting out. So um which would help um so that's what we've been asking for. So anybody that falls under 1200 stay at 1200 which is a good thing. Um there's a few bills out there for code um changes code and policies uh when it comes to seniority or move maybe moving teachers before October 1st um based on need um like
let's say Jason moves in to the school district and he enrolls his kid in fourth grade and now I have to add another teacher. Well, if Jason gets mad and wants to transfer his kid to Pleasant Hill and then instead of adding another teacher at Pleasant Hill, I can just move that teacher to Marsburg to Pleasant Hill. So, because and and I get it with like with Jackson County, they got two elementaryaries eight miles apart and it happens a lot. They'll get mad here and go here. Well, if I have to add one here and they get mad and I have to add and because of numbers, I have to add a teacher here. I just wasted $80,000 because the parent got mad. He goes, "Give me some leewood lee room or wiggle room to
move that teacher from one school to the other." >> Makes sense. >> Um, [clears throat] can I ask a question? >> Yes. [clears throat] uh you know something going around with uh I don't know if it's a bill that's in uh in the works where uh the budget for the 2026 it's going to carry over to the 27 28 and 29 so you would have the same >> yeah there they talk about a pause >> um for that so usually our our our numbers are a are a year off so like what we get funded for was last year's numbers so there's There's usually a lack there. There there is one that talks about that. Senator D on the half senate side has a bill too that talks about formula. Um it's the Tennessee model.
Um the rand model. I don't know if they showed that to you up there or not. >> Um so that gives you your base number. Then it gives you money based on if you're low social county, if you're, you know, royal county, density county, gives you special ed numbers, too. Um, so that's what Tennessee uses. Um, and so I haven't we haven't really saw hard numbers to know which one benefits us the most. I talked to Senator D this summer and he promised to take care of small schools and I think that 1,200 was in his bill for something to to help that. Um, so, um, so I have to go back and look at his bill, but I know that Speaker Hansaw put out one that went into committee today that strictly had a
funding formula of,200. >> So, um, [clears throat] there's um, one that would um, not count attendance against FFA students. Yeah, >> little bit you. But [laughter] >> um I know that we talked about one the other day um for um mothers who are taking off to take care of their their newborn. Um right now they cannot donate sick days. Um so like if this been you know was off her leave again and um if she ran out of days then we could donate her days to help cover for that. So instead of just being off nonpaid so >> yeah is that in relation to like after deliver >> it's not like if a child is sick and is just in those cases. >> Yeah. So as of right now that that's in those those cases
just child birth >> Mrs. yet will not be dealing with that. [laughter] >> I don't remember who there and it deals with the career center or company uh let's say a welder or an electrician. they have an electrician and they can actually go to the career center and use that uh tech and the company would actually get a tax break. >> So >> I have not seen that. So um >> it's still in the process because Tori Jackson was talking about that and I can't remember what the the House bill is. >> I wish I I wish I had it. >> Yeah. So, this is where I really met Jim Brown. Um, sending emails, that was really handy >> and highlighting which ones were important and not important. >> Red light, green light. >> Yeah.
So, like we get them through our superintendent associations, but they're just like when a bill comes up, we get them. I mean, it's it's nothing special. It's in a word document and that's what it is. So, like it's it's just a word document out build here. So I have to go read through it and start tracking it and see like if I see a bill out and like all right should I worry about this bill and it was introduced February 2nd because it's it's sitting sitting for a while. Um but our our director of food service did tell today apparently he's talking to another director over in Barber County that there's making some more restrictions on food which it's going to be tough on it if there is. So there's already a lot that dies.
This would this would get some other stuff. So but we're about halfway point. So we shall see. Hopefully um the budget goes through that that benefits us the best. So we shall see. Yeah, >> yeah, I did mention, you know, the talk about uh getting a better uh feel for, you know, any of the, you know, the Senate bills or House bill out there and they're going to try and make a a better effort >> in explaining those just sending it out that okay, this bill is out there and this so and there was a lot of concern about that. >> Yeah. and he was there every day almost every day sitting in committees listening >> now I think I think I heard Mr. O' call there today in session talking to the committee but
>> you know it's just we can't it's hard to keep track because it moves so fast >> and let's just say like today they're supposed to have education committee at one o'clock well the house session went till almost one itself over uh data centers long discussion. So if you're you're schedule your day around one o'clock, well now it got pushed at three o'clock. So it just makes it makes it hard to do that. So I like when they have morning meetings because those don't really get interrupted. Now, one one thing I want to also address. Uh there was a question of how many board members would be interested in actually going to the you know down to Charleston and uh you know for a full day and you know parking will be available and a
bus will be provided and there were quite a few hands that were raised. So, they're going to try and set something up for maybe March or uh, you know, one of the sessions where board members can actually talk to their representatives and express, you know, their concerns. So, I thought that was a great idea because I raised my hand right away. >> Yeah. >> Because, uh, you know, any information that we can give them, you know, our concerns because, hey, it's what it is. You know, they don't know what they us. So that's going to be in the works and uh you know information will come from uh from this call and so that's that was a good thing. >> Yeah. Any other questions? >> The next item on the agenda is superintendent recommendation and
I have a a motion for item A under business. and second. >> Second. >> Is there any discussion? >> So the um they put these policies out for comment so the legislation um renewed these um for us. So these are just policies for substitution areas and critical needs [clears throat] um and then for bus driver shortages. So we can do areas of critical needs for teachers and for bus drivers and without penalizing retirement. >> Okay, that was and you might have just answered my question. Do can you make up the list because I looked at the list in here so you you can say what areas are it's not something that they put out to you. >> Yeah, I mean as long as it's a a certified teaching position. Um, so like area code is
not going to be anybody in this office or a principal, right? Um, it's just going to be a classroom teacher. >> Um, so if we didn't know that it was just a fouryear um policy set for state, then they renewed this year. >> Um, so which was a good thing because but this will be for our area's critical needs. So there's always a shortage of drivers and um substitute teachers. Now there is the new law that when they retire um they have they have to get pause for 60 days. We can't contact them or they can't work 60 days. That went into law starting July where back you know couple last year before J retired sub on the same day set retirement and put subway same day. >> Do you all have any questions? >>
All those in favor say I. >> I brings us to new business. Do I have a motion for item A? I have a second. >> I second it. >> Any discussion? >> All those in favor say I. >> I oppose. >> That motion carried. And that brings us to I need a motion uh to recess for a public hearing for the 2026 27 calendar. Do >> I have a second? Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Vote. We are in recess. >> So started with three calendars. Um now I have another one just in case. So if you guys have those calendars, if Mr. Ros wants to see the calendars, I can shoot them on the board. Okay. Um, we will share these also on our social media feed so people
can see them. Um, so when I make one of these calendars, I just don't pick random days. Um, so I have to have a start date and then it gives me this blank um sheet and then it gives me the holidays. That's that's in yellow. Then above this line is a whole bunch of red sentences, the rules that I have to follow. And as you go through them, then those rules will disappear as you click what you wanted to do. So I have one um calendar here um which I call calendar A um which we'll be starting on the 10th doing a half day on the 13th with students and have a professional day. um have a long Christmas break. Um ending the uh first semester on December the 18th. Um then restarting the second
semester after Christmas break after uh spring break around March 29th >> and into April 1st with graduation being on May 21st. Our PL days were on a Monday. Um, and do I have that calendar? Um, today because the high school asked, and I did, um, I made the exact same calendar. The only difference is I I'm starting a full day on Thursday, 13th, and moving that PL day all the way to May 28th. [snorts] Um, and having the PL days on a Friday instead of a Monday. Um you guys don't have that calendar because I just literally um worked on it right before that because high school would like their PL days on Fridays instead of Mondays. To me it's half the other one way the other but they asked so I said I'd make
one out for them to vote on then we get public opinion. Um so that's what I did but it's there if you want to view it. It's really the same. Um, and graduation date will still be on the 20 28th. Actually, on the 28th >> questions, >> I got a couple more. >> Has any one of these been >> none of them have been voted on? There's a public comment or public hearing. So, public hearing. So, I went to a couple public hearings. I was also I we'll put them on social media. Um I'll draw ABC, BC, and I'll be on them, let the public look at them. Um see which ones they like. Um I got one that starts a little later. Um starts August 13th. Wouldn't imagine three days later. Changes everything, but
it does. >> That means your set should be B. >> Yeah. Um that will move um the kids going into June um finishing up into June. So three days you can end you in May or June which I mean towards the end of the year coming up June being on snow days. Um then I made a calendar C which was Gilmer's Calendar but they tweaked their I got a new one. Um but this is very similar what Gilmore has. Um and their difference is this is like calendar A. The only difference is to this calendar and calendar C is that their PL the PL days are on Wednesday. So this would be a pretty much a carbon match to Gilmer County. Um so we try to offer one very similar to Gilmer, but it looks
like our our Christmas and spring breaks are going to match up with Gilmer County. um which only helps the career center. So, we'll only be off the PL days, whether it's a Friday or Monday or Thursdays are going to be on a Wednesday. There's and I offer it um and I leave it up to a vote, but they don't like the Wednesday. Um and that's that's I have to work either way. So, I'll leave it up to you who have, you know, question about Calgary. Why do you think the high school why do you think it mattered only to that school? >> Um so I put so I had a meeting with all the faculty presidents then I sent them all the calendar said here's the calendar they were the only ones that responded back
to me. So >> I didn't know like perhaps it was because we have more students. >> Yeah, that was the only >> Friday >> that was the only school that um so now when it comes to a vote some teachers the majority of teachers and service personnel might like Monday. So to me Monday, Friday it's half doesn't >> three day weekend. So, >> um, so the old football coach comes out to me and I like Monday because I don't like my routine being off on a Friday for my athletes. >> So, um, but I leave coaching now. So, [laughter] but, um, this is what I throw out there. I like I like routine and schedules to stay as close to normal. Um, so you can look at it either way. You can have Friday off,
have a nice long weekend or go to school, >> go go go get Monday off and you and my thought process is you only go work four days of school, >> you know, work four days. So, >> it is. Yeah. But, um, we will post these on social media, get them out to the public and, uh, see what calendars that they enjoy. Also, >> y'all have any questions? I need a motion to recess the public hearing until March 16th, 2026 and reconvene for February 16th, 2026 meeting. Do >> you have a second? >> All those in favor say I. >> I back. >> Yes. Um the next item have a motion for item F. All things out for comment. Do you have a second? >> Discussion. Is there any questions? >> Yes. And we had
copies of the policy. >> Yes. >> There are no questions. All those in favor say I. that motion. Now I need a motion for items A through C under personnel. >> Do I have a second? >> I second that discussion. Any discussion or questions? >> Um I know that uh we had the conversation about softball. Um all I can tell you um in this session there an open session is that uh we did receive an open or the recommendation for both coaches from the high school and um the he had middle school softball coach Mr. Jarvis. So she was in favor of Mr. Barnhart and Mr. >> Could I um ask for >> Absolutely. I would um can I have a motion again into executive session? >> I'll make a motion. >> All those in
favor say I. >> And we are in executive session. Mic goes off. Yes.
