How's that? That worked. >> All right. Uh, this past week we had the one day at school where uh we've come to school and dismissed early >> and they just won't leave me alone. But anyway, I just was wanted to bring the the idea something for you to consider as a board when school lets out early. I know there's a waiting time for bus drivers to come back and thing logistics have to be in place for kids to go home. And I was just wondering if you would take it under consideration students that drive. We know the roads are bad, whether it's snow coming or high waters that are, you know, coming up. If maybe we consider a a policy or some things in place to where students that drive can leave before, you know,

that the buses and it gets them ahead of that snow that, you know, we've already made the call could be an issue. I know that there's a lot of things that will go into it, thoughts and planning. Just a thought that I wanted to present, you know, during that discussion if you want me involved to where, you know, my mind went or or not. I I don't care. I'm offering, but it was just something I would like for the board to consider for our students that do drive. >> Fair enough. >> Thank you. >> Okay. I'll share more good ideas if I come up with. 010So, I need the whole team up here. So, if you didn't watch the LKC championship game that was live streamed, I don't know what was more entertaining um watching the girls win a championship and uh re getting revenge on work county that which was your lone boss, right? Yeah. So they lost once this year to work and they beat them in a championship or the commentating or Clayton Barnhard going back and forth and homer uh during that game. So they kept it very entertained uh during the game. Um so we are congratulating these girls um for their conference championship. So Addy Codell, Mandy Johnson, Gwen Stson, Blair Barnhart, Barnhart. He's better. That one is better. Kobe Wilson. Emma Fil, the Bay of Fault, Reagan Morgan, Paisley Harper, Bristol Hoskage coach, come on up. You won

a championship. You're the only one I got right now in sports. I mean, I don't know the records like 20 something. It was a phenomenal season. I got thank assist. Come on. Come on, Coach Mo. Come on. Let's go. Keep it up. >> Now, what I want to say about that game and and the coaches can correct me if I'm wrong. Um, but there was a little adversity. War County made a run, a rally there in the first set or second set. They took and I got a little worried, but the girls bounced back really strong and pulled the LKC. So, I got trouble at my house because everybody in my house was asleep. And I'm sitting there jumping up couch screaming and waking my wife and kids up and so but I was just

thrilled and watching that you guys beat Work County. So of all the teams I I'd love for us to beat, it's War County. So I'm glad you beat Work County. Congratulations. >> The next item on the agenda is the local school improvement council presentation. Cah Middle High School You're up. >> I want to thank everyone for coming out tonight and joining us for board meet here at Calvin Middle High School. As you can see, we have so many things to be proud of and you got to see so many of those right before you. Um I'm especially proud of all of our students. uh their academic achievements, their athletic achievements, uh their involvement in participation in our school, uh they're what makes this place run. So, I'm just so proud to be their principal and

be here with you tonight. This is actually my second board meeting, so I'm excited about having this tonight and being able to showcase uh so many things that are great about our school. Our students actually put together the next presentation for you and one of our LSIC members, Mrs. Renee Barnell is going to commentate their video for them tonight and we're going to showcase just a few other things and some things that have happened in our first semester. So, please join us and welcome Mrs. Renee Barnell, our art teacher, our choir director, and our assistant band director. Good evening. It is wonderful to be speaking on behalf of our LSIC teams here at Cath Middle High School tonight. The students of CHS worked hard to put together a PowerPoint for tonight's board meeting to showcase

the many different events we hosted this fall and our various different sports schemes. Uh the presentation will be showing on the small screen behind me. You are welcome to give it a read as I go through. So, some of the school events we hosted included several public events to encourage stronger connections between our school and community. This included our back to school bash, a pumpkin patch, the Thanksgiving dinner, and some monthly attendance incentives. Our community and school liaison helped organize our back to school bash this year and provided many families in Calhoun County with access to free school supplies. It was hugely beneficial to our students and they love to come back first thing in the year and see all their teachers as they go through and get their new supplies. Another one of our

events was the pumpkin pack which was sponsored by community in schools along with the save the children program and they gave out prizes and pumpkins for carving during Halloween holiday season. A lot of students during uh practices and after school activities ran out to our baseball field and had a wonderful time sorting through the dozens of pumpkins that were out back. Thanksgiving dinner invitations were sent home with students this year and we shared a great meal with friends and family members of CHS. Our dedicated Calhoun and Gilmore Career Center students served the great meal over the course of several hours and were very kind and courteous throughout the entire thing. We greatly appreciated and respected their choices to come out and represent Calhoun and Gilmore's career center. Throughout the year, CHS hosts several attendance incentives.

This includes events with rewards for perfect attendance and a monthly school reward award to all students of the school for holding the highest attendance across the county and a small but fun competition we have with Pleasant Hill Elementary and Arnold Elementary. Our Calhoun County FFA chapter attended the National FFA Convention in October where several of our members were recognized with the National FFA degree titles. These students enjoyed the convention for much more than the awards they received, but also the experiences that they had and shared as a chapter. At this time, we'd like to welcome Miss Jones and some members of the Cal Middle High School FA chapter up front. Evening everyone. So, first off, our officers are giving you a floral design, our floral culture program put together just as a little token of

appreciation to all of you from all of us here at CHS for all that you do for us. So, we've had a really wonderful year in FFA since our last LSIP board meeting last December. Lots of achievements, lots of new accomplishments. We have some of our chapter officers here today and they're going to tell you guys a little bit about what they enjoy most about FSA. Hi everyone, my name is Hi Mace. I'm a senior here and I'm the Calarn FFA president. One of my favorite parts of FFA is all the different state and national level degrees that you can earn. I earned my state degree last year and I'm currently working on getting my American degree and 1% of the million members in FFA earn theirs. >> Hello, my name is Alex Macau. I'm

a junior. I'm also the chapter reporter. And I like FFA because it brings you out of your comfort zone and it introduces you to many different opportunities. Hello, my name is Hoy Helmet [clears throat] Helmet. I'm in 10th grade and I'm the chaplain and I think or FFA helps me and others uh be responsible and manage money through the livestock the youth livestock play. >> Hello, my name is Tucker Samson. I am a sophomore. I am the treasurer of our chapter. My favorite thing to do is our livestock and meat judging, which prepares me for things in life. >> So again, thank you guys for all that you do to help support everybody here at CHS as well as our FA chapter. We really appreciate it. Continuing onwards, we would like to acknowledge our middle

school football team and they had a strong presence on the football field this year, keeping the stand full and joyful on Wednesday and Thursday night. I got to go and watch a couple of their games, including a scrimmage over at Rome County myself. And I will say our middle schoolers put on an impressive game in every single time they take the field. Our Red Devil marching band and cross country teams also saw great success this season. The 14 members of our cross country team brought home 66 different medals across the fall season. This fall they broke 36 different schools records with two new records set for Calhoun by Brook Tingler and Jackson Coulson. This fall, our Red Devil marching band ran their most competitive most competitive season yet, traveling to eight different marching competitions at

which they played their show Giver of Light, which featured collection from Down to the River to Pray the River and Come Thou F of Every Blessing. Their competitive season lasted from September 6th until November 1st and showcased next level musical challenges. Our high school cheerleaders commanded the stands this fall. They rallied great support for our football team with 18 members all loud and proud on the sidelines. Our high school football team also had a delightful season, breaking two school records in the most receptions in a single game now held by Chase Schoolcraft and the most touchdown passes in a single season now held by Brennan Carpenter. Our members in the list behind me in light blue are first team LKC honors players. Our players in green hold second team LKC honors and our players in

yellow hold an LKC honorable mention. Our high school volleyball team ran a great season in the gym this year with 13 wins throughout the fall season. It was very fun to watch them out on the court and many many students stayed after to support their peers out on the court here. This is a photo of our girls in high school volleyball showcasing determination and grit on the court. They never back down in any game and they stand as a great testament to the resilience of Calhoun County Middle High School students. Our middle school volleyball team finished the season with 17 victories and only one loss this year. They climbed to great heights and became the LKC conference champions this fall. Our middle school girls on the volleyball team are strong willed and showcase amazing teamwork

this year across their fall competitive season. Our high school golf team also saw strokes of luck this year. The team placed third at the work county try, second at the girls tournament at St. Mary and first place in three different events held at Herbert Hoover Ripley and the Calhoun match. These dedicated members of the golf team continue to impress and competitively represent Cal County in each of their outings this fall. We look forward to seeing their dedication again next year. 2025 homecoming events were a huge success, raising both schooling both student morale and school pride. This year, our homecoming court looks absolutely dazzling, representing the student body of CHS, including freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Our homecoming game was a huge success for our high school Red Devil football team. Our Calhoun County Red Devils

played against Valley Wesville in a winning game of 65-4. So, there are several handfuls of little clips in which seniors went around the building asking various different questions to staff and students. Our volume is a little low tonight. In this clip, one of our seniors asked Miss Amanda White a question. What is your favorite part of working at PMA? Her heartfelt reply is simple. The students make everything worthwhile. In this clip, a senior asks one of our own upcoming graduates, Joe Nelson, what his favorite subject is. Joe says English, probably because it's the easiest and something that I'm really good at. Now we ask Garrett Carpenter what his favorite sport is at CHS and he says it's baseball as he enjoys playing with his team. In this clip, we ask Cooper and Boogie what their

favorite classes. Cooper says it's the energy and power course. Says that he finds it the most interesting, whereas Boogie prefers English simply because it's where he's the most successful. We headed into our winter sports season. Please keep an eye on our basketball teams and our wrestlers. These students have been training hard and are sure to run an amazing winter season for CHS. This concludes the LSIC presentation created by our students. Please come out and support our teams next semester and have a wonderful evening. It is now my pleasure to invite everyone to join us in the auditorium for performances feing featuring our marching band, color guard, choir, and concert band. Thank you. Um, I need a motion to recess this meeting. Do you need a second? >> All those in favor say I. >> I.

And we will reach that next meeting. >> Can I have a motion to return to the regular meeting? >> Jason, do I have a second? Yes. All those in favor say I. >> And we are back at 659. >> The next item on the agenda is board acknowledgements. Um I'll go first this evening. It was a huge pleasure to see um the commentary is so full of people who brought their kids out to receive their recognition. Um the band, the choir, the concert band, phenomenal job. um thoroughly enjoyed the performances and I just think that all of the schools are doing such a good job to showcase what the kids are doing and I'm thankful for that. >> Thank you. Well, I don't know. Yeah. The only uh thing that I have to say is

uh you know the band been superb and I can't speak enough uh of what Mr. Mendry has done with the band with the concert uh you know all the awards uh the kudos to them you know athletics uh really uh proving and just the overall you know attitude has been really fantastic. I got to see Pleasant Hill this morning, the Christmas play. So that was always a joy. So, you know, the kids one time we didn't think they were going to have it because it's uh you know, no school yesterday and the day before. So, great to see that because, you know, you hate to take it away, especially when they've committed time to work. So, it was such a pleasure, you know, to see all the people out today. It's still great. I still

wish more parents would show up with their kids, >> you know, because we do have a lot of awards. It's just a thing, but hey, it's a start. So, hopefully in the future we can have everybody show up because if you notice the band, just about everybody was here. And uh you know that's that's the way it should be. I don't know if the mechanics there are but I you know I can't say enough for that. So kudos to everybody. >> I think it was a great presentation the science presentation put together by the staff and students. >> It was really good. Um the performances were amazing. I really enjoyed the performances and seeing all the kids listening to all the kids to England. There's a lot to be there's a lot to be proud

of. A lot of and great for the parents that was able to bring the kids out. I mean, there's so many of them, but it's really good to see all of >> Mr. uh yeah, I'm just going to piggy back off what pretty much you all said. It kind of gives me a sense of pride to be kind to see I mean math and English master I mean I sucked in math but uh it just it just makes you want to swell up a little bit you know and and the band I watch them young people play them instruments that take a lot of power a lot of talent we have a lot of talented kids and and a lot of great staff here in county and all the people. >> Next item on the

agenda is the approval of the November 12th, 2025 regular minutes. Do I have a motion? >> Jason, do I have a second? >> I second that. >> Is there any discussion? All those in favor say I. I >> that brings us to discussion and reports career center report. >> Excuse me. Well, last month uh unfortunately uh due to the death of a family member uh the director I think dad passed away. So our meeting was cancelled. So the minutes you see in your packet is actually of December which I'll go over next month because normally we would have our meeting after this meeting and just fell in a different location and I wasn't really prepared to to look at it and really present it because there's a lot of stuff in there that uh is

of value to uh the rest of the board. So, I apologize for that, but uh you know, it is what it is. Go forward. >> Superintendent reports. >> Yep. You have your director reports in front of you um of what school details and what's going on. Um MIP update is I think um that project is either done or wrapping up. Um then we're getting ready to start um our HVAC project here high school. um still using ZMM as our architect did in here. Um and replacing our chillers, boilers and one the main air conditioning stuff. So it's the original boilers real in 1998 and we're replacing one of those boiler chiller um that is also the original chiller from 1998. So, um it's safe to say that they have outlived their um life and working

and of course newer equipment um it's more efficient. Um so hopefully that helps us out too. Um in structural curriculum um we have had our second benchmark. Um I actually met with the faculty senate president um yesterday um and our I was really impressed with our English language arts um benchmark for the for the winter. Um there was a huge gain in our English language arts um growth from fall to to winter. Um I'm excited to see where that goes into spring in our GSA destiny. uh extremely proud uh of those scores. Um and math scores were also growing, some better than others. Uh but we saw saw growth in math. Um and you know, it's nice seeing that climb from the fall benchmark to the winter benchmark and their students making those games. Um

so with the middle high school and doing that too and I was actually talking to Dr. Gator and you know she was impressed with the way that the high school was practicing with the PAT and those scores are are climbing off the uh you know with those students. Uh we have started discussion on next year's school calendar u with staff and our practice center president. So I know we're not done with this year yet. We're on just really wrapping up the first semester. Um but we will bring to the table the next um board meeting um starting to have comments with the school calendar um for next year. Um I've we've already talked to Gilmer saw one of their calendars um and and we'll have those out to you. Attendance reports me go through it.

I think it is getting better than it was last board meeting. maybe our uh chronic um attendance was down um 11.9 down from 21% in November. So November was hard on us. Um chronic attendance and I luckily we got a couple days left. I think the bug and the other word don't like to use that shut it down for a long time is back. Um so um hopefully we can just manage through these next three days um with that. Um and with attendance, you know, we try our best with the weather. It did not cooperate with us on Sunday or Saturday. Um the good news is 50 degrees today. So that helped us out. um current updates. You know, we are trying to keep things vulnerable with closures. We try our best um you know

to make those calls whether we are closing or or or staying open. Um excited to see the progress at all three schools walking around, seeing students, seeing the school decorated, everyone uh preparing for their curriculum program and just interacting with staff and students. Um, and honestly I it's hard to believe that it's almost second semester, you know, or the first semester is almost over. Um, it seems it's like we we we just started school. Um, also want to shout out everyone that was here today, our students for the GSA, uh, all our sports teams that are banned and choir. another part of Mornell, Mr. Merry just walked out, but uh but they did a great job to see the growth in our choir, see where they're at now. They sounded amazing. Um I was telling

one that the the girl we walked through the line, I was in the choir in high school um wasn't the best singer. Um but I was in the choir. It was a big deal, you know, to be the fallest. So it was >> Yeah, it was a big deal. Um everybody wanted to be a part of it. Um, so it it was a huge deal. So everybody wanted to be a part of that. So hopefully we get back to that. >> Um, so, um, Arnold Berg is having their Christmas show tomorrow. I high school put on those shows tomorrow, too. So I think we got those going on. So couple more days left and it is uh Christmas break. And on the the brighter side, I am done Christmas shopping. Completed. Done. >> You're done.

>> All right. The next item on the agenda is new business. Can I have a motion for items A through D? >> Do you need me? Do I have a second? >> Second. Mitch, >> is there any discussion? >> Um, A. Um, so we just got a couple days. We're going to put a a policy out for um for finance time effort. That's a federal thing. So, we are going to update our time effort reporting. Uh we are going to partner with the West Virginia um nutrition program, the West Virginia Extension Office, and the uh Keystone Emergency Network is uh baseball and softball lights. So, you'll approve that quote uh for baseball and softball lights that that would be lovely funded um for lights for baseball and softball field. Um, so we started I play

started playing baseball here in probably 98 2000 and never had lights. Um, so we were adding lights to those fields. Um, I've come to many many games and I've watched them stop playing baseball and softball because it's dark and I've heard several opposing teams and official complain. And if you ever been to a baseball game or right at it, um the the batter's box is right in the sun when the sun set. So, you know, we could push some of those games a little later um to have that. So, we're gonna try to get this project rolling as fast as we can get it rolling. >> You have any questions? >> Uh should in there. If it's not, I will send it. It is Musco Lights. We are partnering with them. Um, that's who does

>> that's who does majority of the lights come through the state of West Virginia. Um, and the reason we went with those here it is that's who does our baseball or not baseball that's who does our football lights. >> Okay. >> Are there any other questions? All those in favor say I. I opposed. >> That brings us personnel. Do I have a motion for items A through B? >> I'll make that motion. >> Jimmy, do I have a second? >> Mitch discussion. [cough] >> Um Um I want to uh Mr. Le uh has been with us uh for this semester um teaching um special ed last semester. So we've already had him on his team on our team. Um so he will be a uh smooth and quick transition um as assistant principal. been uh

administrative before um at the high school level and central office. We're excited to have him switch roles for us um and joining the uh being in a new role. >> You have any questions before we vote? >> No. >> Hearing none. All those in favor say I. >> I opposed. And that >> that brings us to review. I need a motion to go into executive system. >> Jason, do I have a second? >> I second that. >> All those in favor say I. I. Oppos. And we are in executive session at 7:14. No action. >> I need a motion to come into open s. All those in favor say I. >> I. At 7:25. >> Yeah. My uh my motion for the expulsion of 24-7507 that the student remain uh under the term um that

was set for him in March. So all those uh recommendations in that board meeting were met with um it was expired. >> You've heard the recommendation superintendent. Do I have a motion for that recommendation? >> I make that motion. >> Do I have a second? >> Any discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. >> I. That motion carries. That brings us to the end of our agenda. Our next meeting is Monday, January 12th with the board office and I will adjourn this meeting at 7:27.
