Stand right back here on the other for two pages. Okay. cover. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. [Music] [Applause] We now ask Sydney Bartlett to come to the stage for the singing of our national anthem. Sydney is a senior in our carpentry program from Manchester. [Music] [Applause] Oh, say

003can you see by the dawn early light, what so proudly we held at the twilight last gleaming. Who's brought stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight. Or the ramp parts we watched were so gallently streaming. And the rockets red glow. The bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star spangled b or the land of the free and the home of the brave. [Applause] [Music] I am honored to welcome you here this evening as we navigated the whirlwind of senior activities over these past few weeks, including the awards night ceremony, a parking lot party, the scholar dinner, trivia night, the senior barbecue, the prom and now graduation. I am so grateful for the collective effort that made every single moment shine. My deepest

004gratitude goes out to our incredible facilities, farm, and grounds crew along with the students and teachers in our CCL, carpentry, arbor, and landscape programs who help prepare our campus for these events. You really do set the stage and are appreciated. I would like to recognize several other career technical and agricultural programs that assisted with our preparations. Our culinary arts program has provided refreshments for many of our recent events. Design and media communications handled all of our printing needs, captured memories through photography, and managed tonight's live stream for our families watching from home. and our sustainable horiculture program for their stunning floral arrangements. Your skill and dedication do not go unnoticed. Behind the scenes, an army of people poured their hearts into making these senior events possible. Our senior class adviserss, our senior class officers, the

005ever supportive PTO, our amazing clerical team, and our administrators. A huge thank you also to the countless student and faculty volunteers who stepped in to help. 008fact that it was your parents who guided, inspired, nurtured, and loved you unconditionally to get you all to this milestone in your young lives. Graduates, never underestimate the power of your voice, your dreams, and your actions. This world needs thoughtful, courageous leaders, and we believe that you are ready to meet that challenge. Congratulations, class of 25. Go forward with confidence and know that we are cheering you on every step of the way. Thank you and enjoy the festivities. At this time, it is indeed my great pleasure to introduce to you the finest superintendent in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Dr. Heidi T. Richio. [Music] Congratulations to the class of 2025. You are here because you lived our mission of academic and technical excellence. It certainly is a great day to be a Hawk. Over the past

009four years, Essex Tech has given you more than a schedule of classes. It's given you opportunities. opportunities to grow, to try, to lead, to fail, and to get back up again. Some opportunities looked like a challenge. Some looked like a spark. Some didn't look much at all, but every single one of them was a building block. The building block will take you some to college as you further your education in fields such as aerospace engineering, veterary medicine, architecture, cyber security, and more. Others will continue in the Nighthawks program to earn their journeyman license, enter the military, or enter the workforce in fields such as cosmetology, culinary arts, and landscaping. At Essex Tech, we celebrate all of these choices. We hope you feel prepared to take that next step in your journey. Opportunities will not stop

010now. life will continue to present them. Some big, some small. But it's your decision to take them. Choose to take them. That choice, what you say yes to, what you work for, that's what will shape your future. Tom Brady once said, and I quote, "To be successful at anything, you don't have to be special. You just have to be consistent, determined, and willing to work for it. No shortcuts. It's hard. Life is hard. No matter who you are, there are bumps and hits and bruises along the way. Prepare yourself. Success and achievement come through adversity. End of quote. There are no easy routes, but there is a path that is built by your choices and your habits. My advice to you is be prepared. Be ready to take on the next challenge in your life.

011Be consistent. Be dependable and ready to work. Be determined. Stick to the plan. Make adjustments if needed, but don't ever give up. Be willing to work for it. Learn what you need to know. And explore new ways of solving problems. Success takes work. Be willing to work. Be kind. Success is not about knocking each other down, but building each other up. Create a community of kindness. These five habits will guide you along the way. Whether you're heading off to college, joining the workforce, entering the military, or exploring what comes next, they will help shape the person that you become. The last request I have for you is to take care of each other. May is mental health month and we must be okay with not being okay. We must talk to each other about our

012struggles and get help when you need it. We all want and need you here. Sohawks, as you step off this field and into the world, hold your heads high. You carry with you more than just skills. You carry the values of Essex Tech, the lessons of adversity, and the power of your own work ethic. Congratulations again, class of 2025, we are proud of you. And remember, no matter where life takes you next, it's always a great day to be a Hawk. At this time, I have the distinct pleasure of introducing our graduates graduation speaker, Mr. Timothy Johnson. [Applause] [Music] Happy Thursday, folks. I was a bit surprised and honored when Miss Barry on behalf of the senior class asked me if I would speak at graduation. And in fact, the first speech I wrote, which

013I thought was really funny, uh, I showed it to my wife and she reminded me politely that humor is not one of my virtues. Soon, seniors walking across this stage will be your last task as an Essex Tech student and your first act as a graduate. You've spent the last four years getting a high school education. In shop, you've completed countless projects, served countless customers, learned skills and regulations, logged hours, and earned certifications, and gotten experience at co-op jobs. However, education isn't just about work. Because life isn't just about your job. In math, you've learned to think logically. In wellness, you've learned how to be fit and healthy. In science, you've learned how to conduct and draw conclusions from experiments. In the humanities, you've learned about the ways people have lived in the past, their

014mistakes, and their victories. Your education overall has given you the foundations upon which you can build a good life. Graduation is a celebration of that achievement. And while you're all excited about the future, I know that you're also nervous. You're about to get more control over your life. and the stakes are going up as the increase in freedom is inextricably linked to an increase in responsibility. Many of you might be wondering, as I still am, how can I tell if I'm living right? So, I'd like to remind you of a few things from the English curriculum. As freshmen, many of you read the Odyssey and from Homer, we learn the importance of hospitality and being kind to strangers. We learn that a good life is one that makes a good story, one that is worth

015being retold over and over again. Odysius is a great hero because he perseveres. He stays true to himself, his family, and the legacy he wants to leave behind. As you go forward, think about the story you want others to tell about you. as sophomores or in a ELA, you read Emerson and thorough. Thorough writes, I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately to front only the essential facts of life and see if I could not learn what it had to teach and not when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. Wouldn't that be terrible to get to the end of your life, look back, and realize that you had totally missed the point, had gotten it all wrong, and that you had wasted it. It's a thought experiment. The

016point is that by imagining that future hindsight, reflecting back from death's doorstep, we can make decisions now which can prevent that fate. Consider ultimately what you wish you had more time for, what you will wish you would have more time for. Whatever is on that list, those are the things you should spend your time on. Now, as juniors, you read the things they carried in which Tim O'Brien uses fiction to ch to challenge you to experience things from other people's perspectives and recognize the physical and emotional and psychological burdens that many people are carrying around. And we learn that to see from another's point of view is an act of imagination. But it is through that type of narrative thinking that we can develop meaningful relationships and reach for the truth at the heart of

017our own experiences. As seniors, some of you perhaps begrudgingly read Milton's Paradise Lost in which Satan says, "The mind is its own place and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven." But four books later, he realizes that the one obligation he was under to be grateful, which he had felt was so unjust, a burden, was really a gift, a blessing. Because to live every moment in a state of gratitude is bliss. And to deny being grateful is to inhabit a mental hell. Others of you read Brave New World in which Lenina Crown asks while living a life of superficial pleasure and entertainment, what else is time for? The answer comes almost 100 pages later that the purpose of life is not merely the maintenance of well-being, but some intensification and

018refining of consciousness, some enlargement of knowledge. So, I hope you keep learning and go on to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. I hope you persevere like Odysius. I hope you reflect and discover beauty and meaning like Theorough. I hope you choose empathy, creativity, and gratitude every day. And I hope you take all the things you have learned and continue to learn and put them into practice in your life. I hope it makes for a great story. I'll leave you with a poem. One of my wife's favorites from Roomie. This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival, a joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all. Even if there are crowd of sorrows, still treat each guest honorably. He may be

019clearing you out for some new delight. Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes. And happy [Applause] Thursday. Thank you, Mr. Johnson. The class saludiatoran is awarded to the student who is ranked second in the senior class. This year, our saludiatoran will be attending the University of New Hampshire to pursue a double major in mechanical engineering and sustainability. She's an outstanding student from our engineering program and a resident of Beverly. Please welcome to the podium Joss Eversol. [Music] The last time I spoke on a podium like this was to only 30 people in the fifth grade and I ran away after the second paragraph. Today, according to my math, I'm looking at about 2,940 people. I think this is a lot worse. Anyways, for fear of running in

020these shoes, I'll get right into it. This speech to my fellow peers is meant to be about one of Essex Tech's mission statement values, the ones we see across the backs of our teachers shirts at the beginning of the school year. Develop. I spent a lot of time contemplating this theme because as Mr. Johnson says, it really can be interpreted in multiple different ways, but I have three ideas that could work. My first thought is developing our career paths through our unique experiences here, aligning with our school's mission statement of developing into the architects, artisans, and authors of 21st century community. Well, we all graduated here with experience in some type of career, whether that be arbor or advanced, engineering or environmental or another promising program. And even if we don't plan on touching another

021pipette or piece of personal protective equipment again, in the very least, we will all have an unusual secret superpower. Whether that be fixing a stubborn computer with ease or scaling trees in seconds to retrieve a lost item. The second thought I had, unfortunately, as much as I hate to admit it, my next idea that came to mind were smart goals. Forced upon us since three weeks into freshman year health class, you best believe that we all know how to be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely. I like to picture that as a starting point of our education here. And since then, we have plowed through our senioritis to get to today's finish line. And we all deserve a pat on the back for that. But the develop that I think I'm supposed to talk about

022is developing into people. I'm sure most of us look back on our freshman year selves and cringe. I know that whenever my mother brings out photos from that time, I make sure to divert the conversation elsewhere. Yet, when I see those photos, I have to appreciate how far I've come to become the independent, headstrong young woman that I am today. No doubt only because of my mother's patience, my father's steady support, my teachers respect and diligence, my friends competitive rivalries, and much more. I'm sure we can all think of some people who have done the same for us. Class of 2025, we are leaving here having developed into hard workers, stellar students, and virtuous people. So, whatever definition of development they were looking for, I strongly believe that we have succeeded and still have so

023much more to go. Congratulations [Applause] Thank you, Joss. I would now like to introduce Logan Chivvis, who is the Essex Northshore Agricultural and Technical Schools 2025 MAVA outstanding vocational technical student. Logan is a student in our culinary arts and hospitality program. He is from the city of pee and will be attending Johnson and Wales University to study culinary arts and food and beverage industry management. Good evening, Essex Tech. I had it in my speech to introduce myself, but as you can see, Principal Donnelly has already done for me so kindly. First, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of my family, friends, and teachers, especially Ela Cherichello, Mary Carter, Peter Cororovo, Tim Gardner, Evan Menale, and Jihida Lozada Gonzalez. Four years ago, many of those you find yourself among tonight were likely no

024more than faces in a crowd. As our high school careers come to an end, I urge you to think about how many students, staff, faculty, and families you have made an impact on in the last four years. I personally have been able to achieve greatness through the opportunities presented to me by Essex Tech. I know just as well that many of you here tonight have done the same. Whether it has been through your CTE area, sports, extracurricular activities and clubs, or just your academic classes, you have left your mark. These people have become your friends, your acquaintances, mentors, adviserss, even just classmates, all because you put yourself out there. You declared yourself to those around you and have surely founded lasting relationships in doing so. As we persevere in our careers and our studies, we

025continue to discover that the people whom we meet in the present are the same who will support us in the future. While we recognize now how far this has already taken us, I ask you, graduates of the class of 2025, to promote yourself. Step out of your comfort zone. Say good morning to the people whom you pass on the street. Spark up a conversation with the person you sit next to in class or who stands behind you in line for that morning coffee. Spread positivity wherever you go, and you'll find that it'll bounce right back to you. You are whom you surround yourself with and we are great. Thank [Applause] you. The class validictorian is awarded to the student who is ranked first in the senior class. The validictorian of the class of 2025 is

026a dental assisting student from the town of Hamilton. She will be attending the University of Michigan this fall to study neuroscience. Please welcome Brook Sergeant. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Good evening, Essex Northshore Agricultural and Technical School class of 2025 students, staff, family, friends, and guests. It is an extraordinary honor to stand before you as this year's validictorian. With that, my unofficial job is to impart some advice onto you all. So, I will try my best. This speech is not just a reflection of countless late late nights, sacrificed weekends, and moments of persistence, but a testament to resilience and community. Many of you have seen me around the halls. I'm not hard to miss in my pink wheelchair, navigating from class to class, or with my crutches, carefully balancing my backpack. But what you may not know

027and perhaps have wondered is what journey brought me to that chair and then to here on this stage. I was born premature just 2 lb 5 oz alongside my twin sister and fellow 225 graduate Lauren. I spent 110 days in the neonatal intensive care unit and doctors told my parents I would never walk. At two years old, I was diagnosed with cerebopal paly and quadripolgia. Over time, I underwent three major surgeries and countless procedures to correct my spine, hips, legs, and feet, beginning what has been a lifelong process of rehabilitation. Thousands of hours of exercises, doctor's appointments, and gate analysis labs have slowly reprogrammed my brain and body. Despite these challenges, I have the privilege of immersing myself in adaptive sports and playing sled hockey at a nationally competitive level. For a little background on

028how I made it to Essex Tech, I begged my mom to call Essex Tech because I was sure this is where I was supposed to be. When the front desk staff asked if I was in seventh or eighth grade, my mom laughed and replied that I was in fact in fourth grade, just eager to learn about admissions. 10-year-old me with her clunky metal walker would never have believed I'd be standing here today. I think of the younger version of myself who would die for the opportunities I have, the experiences I've enjoyed, and the memories I've created on and off this school campus. Those experiences gave me a unique lens to view these past four years. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's this. We are all shaped by the perspectives we carry and more

029importantly but by what we choose to create with them. Every one of us in this graduating class holds a perspective that's shaped who we are and how we've grown just as valid as mine. That's 419 stories, 419 voices, 419 journeys that brought us to this moment and 1,676 versions of our high school years at Essex Tech. My version of perspective has taught me that creation isn't always something you can see. Sometimes it's about building endurance, empathy, or grit. I didn't just have to learn how to walk. I had to learn how to adapt to create my own path forward. And then I discovered in that way all of us are creators. So naturally, when I sat down to write this speech, I reflected on one of Essex Tech Core's pillars, which is create. We've all

030heard it. create, encourage, promote, and develop. But what does it truly mean to create? At first, I thought of the tangible things we produce in our shops. We build decks, we weld metal, groom dogs, bake cakes, draw, write, grow plants, and so much more. But as our English teachers would remind us, there is always a deeper meaning. Creation isn't just about making something physical. It's about discovering who we are and what we stand for. When we arrived at Essex Tech as wideeyed freshmen, we were nervous, excited, and maybe a little lost. I definitely remember thinking our school looked like a mall. It's safe to say we had no idea what the next four years would hold. Since we all chose a non-traditional form of education, each of the 24 shops we explored allowed us to

031see life through someone else's lens. It's through these moments of discovery and challenge that creation takes on its deepest meaning. We create space for others to feel seen, safe, and valued. We create confidence even when fear threatens to hold us back. We create opportunities for ourselves and for those who come after us. We create community by lifting each other up. We create resilience because life doesn't hand you a blueprint. And most importantly, we create connections with others that make all of this worth it. At Essex Tech, those connections were everywhere. on bus rides to Skills USA, FFA or DECA, in the shared panic over senior portfolio deadlines and during senior events that have given us lasting memories. Now we turn to what's next. Some of us are off to college, others to the workforce or

032military, and some of us are still figuring it out, and that's okay. The beauty of creation is that it's never finished. We get to keep building, keep growing, and keep evolving. Now, I want to take a moment to recognize those who have brought me here. To my classmates, thank you for being a part of my journey. You've inspired me more than you know. To my best friends, Marley, Briana, and Marin, thank you for showing me that I found my people here. I'll miss all crumble runs, late night talks, and debriefs after every minor inconvenience. To my teachers and mentors, thank you for believing in me even when I was still learning to believe in myself. A special thank you to Miss Brush and Mr. Mandelbomb. Miss Brush, your humor, mentorship, and compassion have driven me

033to become a better student in person. I hope you spend your summer in your gazebo with your flip-flops on and no worries in sight. Mr. Mandlebomb, your kindness and humility are a daily reminder of what it means to be a true leader. And to my dental moms, thank you for turning shop into a second family. To every worker, custodian, and especially our lunch lady, Mary, your hard work often goes unspoken, but your kindness is what upholds this community. To my family, my dad, my mom, my older sister, Nicole, and my twin sister and mermaid of 17 years, Lauren. You have been with me through every appointment, every milestone, and every victory. And mom, you are quite literally the reason why I can walk and stand here today. You are everything I aspire to be and

034more. And I owe it to you. Students, I urge you to thank your parents and guardians for the sacrifices they've made and for every moment they've cheered you on. Class of 2025, we have each created something unforgettable here. Now go out to the world and create the future you've always imagined. Always remember to take in the moment, live fully in the present, and don't be in a rush to feel like you need to have everything all figured out. Our lives are only just beginning and there is so much more to create. It is my privilege to congratulate each and every one of you, class of 2025. Now, let's get to work. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Thank you, Brooke. At this time, could the class of 2025 officers please join me on the stage? [Music] [Applause]

035[Music] Mr. Stout and Dr. Richio, will you please join [Music] us? As a class gift, we would like to donate a memorial brick at the Larkin on behalf of the class of 2025. In addition, the class will donate a second brick in memory of our classmate Nolan Kierney. Thank you very much. Congratulations. We invite our class officers, Miss Barry and Miss Watson, to please join us. Miss Bar and Miss Walton, we would like to thank you on the behalf of the class of 2025 for your dedication and hard work as advisers to our class. We would like to present these gifts to you. We truly appreciate everything you have done for our class. [Applause] [Music] At this time, we have a musical performance by some of our graduating seniors. Good, Max. [Music] I had a

049final speaker has had a storied career at Essex Tech. He is a standout in the information technology services program. He is a Skills USA state vice president, the founder and chairperson of the Essex Tech Student Council, and the student representative for our school committee. In addition, he has been a member of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Student Advisory Council, a peer mentor, a peer mediator, and a student athlete. He will attend Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall to pursue a computer science degree and they will be lucky to have him as were we. Please join me in welcoming your class of 2025 president Acro Machini. Good evening, Essex Northshore families, staff, school committee, guests, and most importantly, the class of 2025. [Applause] Before I begin, I'd like to quickly take a moment

050for our classmates to look at the people directly to their left and right. The people have cheered us on, lifted us up, and stood by our side. Their unwavering support is the base of our success, and they deserve a quick thank [Applause] you. Next, I'd like to shift our look to the faculty section. These remarkable educators have guided us with wisdom, passion, and a long rope of patience. Without them, we would not be walking this stage moments ago. I'd like to especially thank Miss Batser and Mr. Norton who have not only shaped my experience in the IT program, but have also taught me lessons that extend far beyond the classroom. Happy retirement, Miss [Applause] Batser. People may look at our generation as lazy, distracted, and not ready for the real world. When I look at

051the 419 graduates seated before me, graduates of the top career technical agricultural education institution in the Commonwealth, I see something completely different. I see passion. I see hustle. I see a generation that does not just rise to the occasion. We create the occasion. We also have the results to show for it. We made history in Skills USA with the most state gold medals ever as a class. We shattered records in DECA with the most international competition qualifiers than any class before us. We launched the first ever student council and chapter of the Dirty Hands Club. We uplifted advocacy through Lasso Women's Empowerment Club and Best Buddies. We reached new heights in the workforce with the highest co-op participation rate in school history. We harbored leadership in FFA with a state officer and gave our all

052110% to every single opportunity that came our way. And we also finally got the Larkin Cottage built, which is proof that miracles really can [Applause] happen. But even with the long list of accomplishments, we know this truth. There's always room to work harder, reach higher, and be better. That's what vocational education has taught us. Because when great is possible, good is never enough. In the long run, no one's going to dwell on the moments where you fell short. What they'll remember, and what you will remember, is how you responded. It's not failure that defines you, but the fire you find in yourself to rise, rebuild, and keep moving forward. That's what shapes your story. And that's what shapes a legacy. As if high school wasn't enough, we know life will get harder. When you grow

053tired and when doubt creeps in, remember how you got here through grit, late nights, and early mornings. And if you ever need a reminder of how unpredictable life can be, we can think of our senior sunrise, future plans barbecue, and the hundred other events we got rained out on this year and almost this graduation. We were able to learn that sunshine is a state of mind. As we smiled, took photos, and made the most of it anyways, like we always do. You've already proven that the light of ambition drives out fear. So, choose growth over comfort and action over hesitation. And if you're ever feeling burnt out, just remember that LeBron James is still in the MVP conversation at 40 years old. There are no excuses. Today, I look at the builders, creators, innovators, doctors,

054engineers, and workers of tomorrow. And today is the beginning of that journey. As we stand on the edge of our next chapter, the most prominent transition phase of our lives to this point, we leave with not just skills and knowledge, but a mindset. A mindset built on effort, perseverance, and courage. The world needs us in this moment. There's never been a better time to be skilled. There's never been a better time to be in vocational education. And there's never been a better time to be you. Now classmates, I ask that you please rise with me for to move our tassels in our capass. Let's move our tassels from right to left signifying four years of growth. And on the count of three, throw our caps as high as our ambition will carry us, remembering how

055far we've come and those who have helped us along the way. I'll give you a second to take the pins out of your hair. Okay. 3 2 1. Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in congratulating the class of 2025 on four of the most extraordinary years in Essex Tech history. The sky's is the limit. Congratulations. Congratulations. We have to get a photo. All right. I'm just going to finish this up. Thank you for joining us this evening to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2025. A link to the photos from today's events will be emailed to families and posted to our social media platforms coming days. Again, congratulations graduates. [Music] [Applause] clear to brea tonight. Take this walk, but a sun will be alive. Going to try to clip your wings, pluck you up

056and make you sing. I don't have a cage but a dream. So fly away cuz we've got where the pages in the wind. We've got tomorrow. We're the tips that last. There's always another day, another night in
