015creators and everything in between that will frame the future generation of our Workforce each year we think of themes for our remarks it takes lots of discussions brainstorming editing until the final speech is ready to present this year I am writing from my heart and will keep it simple something my dad always promoted Lessons Learned by my dad include make personal connections they matter never give up and get back in the game when someone wants to kick you out do hard things and not walk away but work toward a solution be a good neighbor and help those who aren't able to help themselves someday you may need that help these are a series of lessons that come to fr name a person a person who makes mistakes learns from them and moves forward these are
016some of the lessons that I hope you take away from Essex Tech work hard show up early stay late when you feel like giving up take a deep breath and get back in the game be selfless in your approach in life do not blame others for your problems choices or outcomes take ownership and responsibility in your part of the mess you are not always going to get that job that trophy or that promotion move past it and figure out a way to get it the next time persevere always be learning always ask questions and always be curious assume positive intent not everyone is out to get you and those that are out to get you take the high road it's just not worth your time and energy they have their own struggles that they are

020to get here today cooked the meals drove you to and from practice checked in on the homework obtained the teacher's license the professional certificate worked in a professional trade for years before coming to Essex Tech now I say all of this to you only so that you understand that your achievement tonight is also our joy yes you did it and we are rewarded by being happy to help you which leads to Pearl 2 and here it is you will find in life that when you make an effort sometimes one that even requires sacrifice that you feel good about those who help you and then about yourself this is because our lives are meaningful in as much as we make of ourselves and our talents to gift to others and that meaning comes only through self-offering
021now this could be a great effort completing a degree getting a promotion completing an important project but also in smaller ways you've been practice with Hawk holiday hope and with kindness week consider all the other ways in which we asked you to give of yourselves here at Essex Tech over the years giving to a local elementary student your time and attention helping a neighbor get the the driveway Dugout and when we when we used to have snowstorms and spending time with an elderly relative to name a few the world needs you it needs your can do attitude your technical skills and knowledge your grit your groundedness to name a few qualities and talents these are your gifts Pearl two give them generously to others Pearl three I hate to do this to you but I'm

024everyone my name is Eli Wallen and I have been a part of the engineering shop here at Essex Tech it has been a huge honor to be named this year's salutatorian and to be able to speak today I would like to start by saying welcome and thank you to all family friends and staff who are and are not here today I want to start by talking directly to my fellow graduates look around at the crowd and audience here at the ceremony today feel the pride joy and most importantly the support of all those who have helped us through our journey in high school now look around the field look peer to peer friend to friend unlike other schools in our area we didn't end up here by chance we all made the conscious choice to
025take a different path for high school we forged friendships and relationships despite the long drives and distances between our houses our friendships weren't formed based on convenience instead with effort and care now look to yourself you are the one being celebrated today your effort and work over the last four years brought you here today to this very moment do not discredit what you have done to get to this point no matter how much support and help it took to get here it is your achievement not anyone else's it is our day to be proud unfortunately we have grown up focusing on praise and gratification from those around us the last couple weeks and those upcoming will be full of compliments and congratulations but none of that means anything unless you are actually proud of yourself
026reframe how you look at this celebration it is not merely an event for your family to come and visit and to say good job it is for you to finally realize and accept the award you deserve for what you have done in high school so with that pat yourself on the back congratulate yourself because we all deserve to hear that from ourselves we have skill sets no other kids in our area possess we learn trades subjects and Hands-On skills that otherwise would have been obtained later in life it took hundreds of class and project hours to learn what we now know and we are better off because of it whether we stay within our Career Technical or agricultural areas or not with that I conclude my rambling to my fellow graduates it's time to turn

028chapter of Our Lives it's a day of Celebration reflection and much awaited ipation as I stand here I can't help but think about The Incredible Journey that brought us to this very moment as as as author Alice Walker once said the most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any but class of 2024 We Know Better we've always been in control our journey at Essex Tech began with a bold choice leaving behind the familiar and treading toward A New Path we took control of our education and our futures Ste to school unlike any other little did we know that our perseverance would be tested from the very start remember that online orientation logging into Zoom nervous and excited then on our first day of school we walked through the
029doors at the peak of the uh at the peak of the pandemic as of starting high school at a new school with almost all new people wasn't hard enough we had to do it behind screens and masks unable to see the faces of others sit together at lunch or even really connect in the hallways for Hands-On school like ours hybrid learning was particularly rough but with the help of our families and the staff at our school we adapted and found new ways to connect uh and thrive in the world we were living in and when we finally took off our masks we all collectively went oh so that's what you look like thankfully those days are behind us despite these challenges we learned that essextech is no ordinary high school we didn't just choose a
030school we chose a direction each of us chose a program that aligned with our passions and career goals gaining a second very like-minded family in the process the very nature of our school's curricular approach brought together the rigor of academics with career Focus hands on multi-discipline training across clusters like agriculture construction Health Sciences manufacturing engineering and technology and services which made us flexible skilled people ready for what's next and we weren't just students either we were athletes drama club members musicians Co-op students and so so much more we also had the opportunities for co-curricular learning through organiz a like skills USA Deca and FFA our school's unique approach to learning transformed us into the graduates we are today in our chosen programs we gained practical experience that sets us apart from becoming certified nursing assistants
031licensed cosmetologists and skilled it professionals to getting certified and hazardous waste operations uh operations in emergency response we required a diverse range of expertise that most other high schoolers don't have let alone adults and that list hardly even scratches the surface of what we all have done these aren't just titles are they they proove of our hard work and dedication we built close-knit families within our Technical and agricultural areas creating Unforgettable bonds and memories if I had never made that jump and taken the risk to leave some of my friends and come to the school I would have never had the opportunity to place third in international coding competition earn a cyber security scholarship or build a small self-driving robot Beyond these personal achievements I've get an incredible network of peers and mentors creating friendships
032that will last a lifetime the opportunities to learn grow and make our education whatever we wanted were truly unparalleled here at essextech not to mention that our teachers were Superstars teaching our full high school education in as my mom says literally half the time they guided us through AP courses dual enrollment and challenging subjects often going above and beyond to support our extra projects our CTA CTA and Theory teachers worked closely with us for years getting to know each of us individually nurturing our uh nurturing our unique interests they're incredibly accommodating always ready to adopt their lessons to our needs and support us in pursuing our goals whether that meant providing extra resources offering guidance on personal projects or connecting us with industry professionals just as we took control of our education by choosing Essex
033Tech we are now taking control of our future of our futures that will lead to many different paths some of us will under the workforce others are bound for various colleges and universities and some will serve our nation in the military wherever we go the foundation and friendships built here will God us to success control works when you judgment choices and support we had the Judgment we were given the choices and through the school friends and family we always had the support now I just want to take a moment to express our gratitude first let's give a huge round of applause to our families for their unwavering support throughout our entire [Applause] lives next let's turn to our teachers uh and counselors and give them a well-deserved thank you for their dedication [Applause] and finally

036to impart some advice for your futures you probably are expecting me to say something along the lines of always work your hardest never give up or practice makes perfect but I'm not going to do that because no matter what you did or how much or what you focused on up until this point we all made it here I want to open my speech with a quote from Oscar wild because I think he sometimes had some pretty good stuff he said to live is the rarest thing in the world most people exist that is all by this he means two things one have a goal but live in the moment don't let life pull you along seize every opportunity you can which includes seizing the opportunity to take a break always be looking for the next
037thing but don't skip ahead and miss out on the now because hopes and dreams are good to have but don't let them be just that you all should be proud of what you have accomplished not dwelling on what you may have missed and two life is what it's named life not your job not your sports not your relationships not even School these are only parts of the whole your purpose in life is to be your best for you take care of your work and strive for your Ambitions for you will fulfill your goals but take care of your mind and take care of your body for you will fulfill your purpose of experiencing life as it throws itself at you occasionally slow down look around and Marvel at all that you have look at where

052would now like to invite the class of 2024 president Khloe coffee to the podium for the Farewell [Music] [Applause] Address good evening fellow classmates esteemed staff and distinguished guests and of course proud parents my name is Chloe C and it is a complete honor to stand before you all today as the senior class president of the ambitious and resilient class of 20124 here at Essex Northshore Agricultural and Technical School writing a speech that incompasses everything that the class of 2024 deserves was a lofty task how does one even begin to capture the words to describe how very special this class is I will begin with this thought every single one of you here today is here with with a purpose throughout these four years we have all gained our own reality of what it truly
053means to be a hawk here at Essex Tech on an average walk in the hall you will encounter so many different types of people they'll come across Future Farmers of America Surfers who think they're surfing Big 10 and not the waves at winner Chic you also see people who are not afraid to express who they are whether whether it is physically with their appearance or with their actions always pushing more for themselves on reflecting upon these character istics of this class I would love to share a quote with everyone here today that has truly impacted me throughout this year and alter my perception of what it takes to be victorious in life's challenges Theodore Roosevelt the 26th president of the United States who was never afraid of taking on a new challenge shes an abundance

055what is actually being done president Theodor Roosevelt expressed the importance of being the person making the impact and not being a person talking about the people around you who are I can proudly say standing here and recognizing our class the class of 2024 that there are more students in the arena compared to the critics some people may look at me and think I'm your stereotypical blonde bubbly cheerleader Etc but who I really am is your best friend your C on your cheery Dramatics team your little sister your favorite daughter the girl you know you can always count on your favorite dental assistant you mayy in the morning of your surgery and of course your high school's class president these are all things I have defined myself as while actually putting myself in the arena and
