Good evening. I'm calling or good afternoon, I should say. I'm calling this uh special meeting of the Nicholas County Board of Education, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Uh we're calling it to order and I'm going to turn it over to the superintendent items two and three. Um please join us as we stand for a moment of silent reflection. Thank you. Miss Fletcher, would you lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance? Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. And so we have the one action item remaining on the agenda as I understand it correct. >> Correct. Um and before I Before I get into that, I am going
to read uh from the agenda here that pursuant to West Virginia Code 18-2A-5, the West Virginia Board of Education voted unanimously at its May 14, 2025 meeting to declare an immediate intervention in Nicholas County Schools. As a result of this action, the authority of the County Board of Education over school operations was suspended and decision-making authority was delegated to State Superintendent Michelle Blatt and or her designees acting in her capacity as the Board of Education for Nicholas County Superintendent Blatt or her designees will preside over this meeting April 8th, 2026 related to proposed personnel actions. Local County Board of Education has no authority to deliberate on or render decisions regarding these personnel matters. Final determinations regarding the proposed staffing actions will be made exclusively by the State Superintendent or her designee. My name is Jeff
Kelley. I'm an Associate Superintendent with the West Virginia Department of Education. I am serving as the State Superintendent's designated day in that capacity. With that being said, I do have a request from the Superintendent for approval of the proposed personnel actions for the 2026-2027 school year. And I want to be clear, we had no requests for hearings. No requests for hearings. No requests for hearings. Um with that, in reviewing the items Serving as the designee for Michelle Blatt, State Superintendent of Schools in her acting capacity as the Board of Education for Nicholas County Schools, I hereby approve the proposed personnel actions presented by the Superintendent. And I believe that will conclude the items on the agenda for today, if I'm not mistaken. Yes, just one second. I would like just to take a moment to
publicly thank some people. Um first and foremost, I'd like to thank Ms. Fletcher and her staff for all of the work that they have put into this uh um process. It wasn't easy, but it's it's it's basically taken up most of their time from January until this point. Um along those lines, I would like to thank our directors. We met individually with the program directors and and discussed their programs of responsibility and what their recommendations were as relates to staffing. We then met with each school administrator, discussed the school's needs looking forward and to be honest, they need to be commended because they each brought ideas to us as it relates to staffing in their individual schools. So, I want to thank those school administrators as well. I just want to take a moment to
thank these individuals for their hard work. Thank you. Uh with that, we will adjourn the meeting. I'm showing it 2:05 p.m.
