Good morning everybody. Thank you so much for coming. This is always one of my favorite events of the year because we get to see all of the progress that these students have made since the beginning of the year. Um want to thank Mr. K and the music department. Um it's a wonderful opportunity that our students have to play the violin. So thank you for your support at home as well. Um hearing them practice very delightful. So thank you for everything and um good luck everybody. Thank you. We can hear all the progress you've made. >> Thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> Welcome to our eighth um concert in the uh string festival. This year we have concerts. Uh two weeks ago we had the 3 through five concert at the high school. Uh

we also had the uh 6 through 12, grades 6 through 12 concert at the high school where we featured the high school orchestra. We had uh concert K through two in every school in the district and this is our last one. This concludes our um uh string uh festival for this year. The string program was started in the year 2000. I we started it and we had only a few students uh at the Lafayette school. uh we did a pilot program and now we expanded to all the schools including the high school and expanded it down to kindergarten. So we are very lucky that we have 550 students across the city and you can see that in your program. Uh we gave the program uh as as a festival so that you can see what

a big part what a big thing uh your students your children are part of. Uh this is this is a small part of the string program. There is hundreds more. And the cool thing is that second grade, second grade sitting over there. They will >> get to play at the high school at a night concert next year. So this is their last concert here and next year they will move up to the high school and play a night concert. and they are going to have to dress all black for that concert. Here we dress nicely and fun, but at that concert is a little more serious. So I would like to thank the administration. We are very lucky that for all these years the administration in the Ever public schools has supported us. Um but

firstly I would like to thank the students who work so hard and practice to in order to be able to play. Secondly, I would like to ask uh I thank the parents you for all your support in getting them the violins, bringing in the violin to school and doing all those things that I I know it's not easy. I'm a parent myself. So, thank you very much. Thank you, Mr. King, our director of fine arts and visual arts for always supporting us and being in every single one of our concerts. And we will start Oh, and thank you, Miss Develin. Uh we've been uh we go together to all the schools including the high school with Miss Develin ex except for the La Hayet school which is taken care of by Mrs. Holska. >> All

right guys this um concert we will explore. We will travel around the world. We will travel around different techniques violin techniques. We are going to dance and sing a lot. We sing because the violin does not have frets or keys like a guitar or a piano. So the pitch the way you play is very important. The the the the way you recognize your pitch. So that is why we sing a lot in violin. So we start recognizing our pitch. All right. All right, let's start with our first song. No violence yet, just song. Right. >> Here we go. >> Nice and loud. Sing from God's might change your cross and the sea. This is how 2. >> Excellent. Very good job. >> Now you will see we'll tra travel across several continents. You're going to

hear music from Asia, music from Latin America, and so on and so forth. And we're going to show you how to play on each one of our violin strings. One, two, three, four. Stop the violin out. Clip the bottom part of your violin. Place the sponge on your shoulder, not in your throat. In your shoulder. Move the pointy part of your chin on your chin. Slide your thumb back. Wiggle your finger. Say hello string. >> Hello string. >> Stringing. Flip your bow and place your bow in the middle of the contact area on the skinniest string on the E string, please. Ball on the E string. And here we go. Hold on the E string. Straight. E E go. E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E

E E E E E Go. Roll it over to the D string. Second string. Go. Hey dog roll straight dog back from the east side. on top G fast roller. Cross them all. All right, we are going to sing to show you that we know our violin parts and Bridge and chest. Scrub and shoulders. Bridge and chest and hands and finger board. >> Excellent. >> All right, guys. One, two, three, four. Stop. Violin out. Flip the bottom part of your violin. Place the sponge on your shoulder on the side. and the bottom touching the part side of your neck under your ear. Then put the pointy part of your chin on the chin rest. Slide your thumb back. Wiggle your finger. Say hello strings. >> Hello strings. >> Flip your bow. Make sure your pink

is on top of the stick. Do your best. And now place your bow on the E string, the skinniest string. Roll it over once to the A string. And roll it over one more time to the D string. We're on the D string. And now we are going to go to Manhattan for some bluing. Here's Manhattan blues four times. Go two times. Go to D. Time 17. Push my shoulder. push it in please. >> Okay, >> thank you. Very good job. Now we are going to Now we are going to sing our about our bow parts. The the reason the violin is only on one hand, meaning that the violin goes on the left hand and the bow goes on the right hand, and people who who are left-handed still play like this, is because

the violin left hand technique and the bow technique, they are equally as difficult. So, it doesn't matter if you're left-handed or right-handed. One of your hands is going to have a hard time or one of the hands is going to be the winner. Whatever you however the glass is full or half full or half empty, but they are equally as difficult. That's why we all hold the violin on the same side. All right. Ready? One, two, three, four. Stop. Violin up. No. Back to rest position. I'm ahead of myself. Let's sing our song about our ball parts. Ready? Go >> screw stru. >> Very good. Yay. Excellent. We never touch the horseair because this horseair has rosin on it and the rosin is a sticky. It's a tree sap that is sticky and very dry.

And if we touch it, the the oil from our skin gets sucked into the bow and then the bow does not the the horseair does not accept any rosin anymore. And then the ball doesn't make any sound on the strings. So we are not allowed to touch the horse hair. Right. >> Yeah. Don't touch it. Good job. All right guys, now we are going to play something very very emotional. It's called sailing home. And we are going to play long bows. And please try not to cry because this is very emotional. One, two, three, four. Stop. Violin out. Flip the bottom part of your violin. Put the sponge on your shoulder and button touching the side of your neck. Pointy part of your chin on your generous. Slide your thumb back. Wiggle your finger. Say

hello string. >> Hello. >> Here we go. Sailing home. >> On the D string again. E A E string over big ball starting from the frog down up down open the Hey God, I got down. up and freeze all That was very very nice position. All right, second grade, you are going to sing first and kindergarten and first grade are going to answer you. We are going to do an African call in response response song called chool. >> So first second grade is going to sing and then kindergarten and first grade are going to answer. After we are going to repeat it. We are going to do the same song again. Second grade will play but we will answer with our violins. So let's hear it how it's go how it goes in the singing.

Right. >> Mhm. >> All right. Here goes. JJ Kool-A. I am coming. >> One more time. Ready, second grade? Good job. >> Go. La. >> Excellent. Very good job. Good job. Um, at the end of every class, we sing a song that will remind us when to bring our violins and uh not

to forget our violin day, right? >> Yep. Yes. >> Yes. >> And to pack up our violins, right? But we're not packing up. >> We're just singing the song. Okay. So, don't pack up. Thursday. Then day th and of course my vin th is my vent day. th that is when I play and I practice every day. >> Excellent job. >> And that is how we remember to bring our violins. >> Every week. Every what? >> ON WHAT DAY? >> There we go. Very good. Um, second grade, you're not going to come up here right now. You're just going to stand up and go to play position. Okay, you can move. So, our next piece here um with first and second

grade is called Old McFiddler. So, this is just um our version of Old McDonald, which is pretty fun because the students get to sing a familiar melody and also um play on their violin. Ready?
