001Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the first of two nights of string night here at Ever High School under direction of Mr. Catch Merrick, Miss Per and Miss Dele. So without further ado, I'd like to welcome to the stage Mr. Cash Merrick. Good evening. This is our I believe our 26th or 27th string night. >> We are very proud to be here. We have wonderful students. We started this string night a long time ago in the year 2000 uh with Mrs. Kajmarik my wife who now teaches at the uh Lafayette school general music and um this started with an incredible amount of 80 students at the Lafayette school. We started it in about April um of that year. It was a pilot program and then little by little we started expanding. Um we
002um we were able to hire Mrs. Porska. Um where is Mrs. Pska which is an amazing addition to the string program. Um, she now teaches at the Lafayette School full-time and just uh two and a half years ago, we were able to uh add an alumna from from the ever public schools. This was my student and starting from I think third fourth grade uh at the Webster and then she moved to the Lafayette school and then she was my high school student and this that's uh Miss Develin and um Miss Develin and I go and teach in all the other schools. Um this is the first concert of our festival of our string festival. Um, and we have eight concerts this year. The first year we had one concert combined with band and with chorus.
003Now we have eight concerts just strings because we have over 550 students. So that's thanks to you and to your support. Thank you very much. You guys are awesome. Thank you very much for Richard for uh to Mr. Richard King who came here to support us. We introduced the the viola. We introduced the cello, the double bass, and we also play with band instruments forming a full symphony orchestra. So, we would like you to come and enjoy and watch it and see what is in store for you for next year. Um,
010and so that this last piece that we're going to play, students like to play in those little concerts, the through K through two. It's the last piece we play there. And tradition has it that we always end every concert with that piece and which is the hippophony. Let's do it. So third grade and fourth grade, stand up where you are. Don't leave. Just stand up there in play position and let's play the hippophony right there, guys. Just try to do it. I know it's I know it's very cramped, but you can do it. >> Don't poke each other's eye.
