001[music] >> Good evening everyone and welcome to the big house on the big hill for a big time Greater Boston League match up between the Somerville Highlanders and the Everett Crimson Tide. For the Crimson Tide, after winning their first game of the season and running into the teeth of a very tough schedule, they have dropped five in a row. Playing some really good teams and some of those coming on some very heartbreaking losses, but it was a big win the other night that may prove to be the catalyst for this Crimson Tide team. As Christian Vasquez hit a next to buzzer beating shot giving the Tide a dramatic 50 to 48 win over Lynn English. Now, it's time to maybe stack some wins. In front of them tonight is a Highlanders team that has lost
002only one game of the season. I bring in Justin Han now and I'm Josh Del Gaizo and we are bringing you the action. Justin, tell us a little bit about the Somerville Highlanders team and what the Tide will have in store. Well, there must be something in the water in Somerville because they're coming off of a four game win streak. Last week they took on the Reading Memorial High School Rockets and they took them out of orbit, brought them back down to earth with the win of 65 to 51. Absolutely insane. If I'm Everett, I'm trying to stop the momentum and absolutely insane. If I'm Everett, I'm trying to stop the momentum and you know, get the dub tonight. Keep that momentum going. Yeah, no, absolutely Justin. And for the Highlanders, their first their only
003loss of the season came early on. It was the second game of the year against Hold on a second, undefeated Chelsea. That's who the Tide also lost to by one point and the Chelsea Red Devils are 6 and 0. So, undefeated Chelsea has given Somerville their lone blemish of the season. As you mentioned, the Highlanders are coming into this one on a four-game heater. But, I tell you what, these two teams have a long storied bad rivalry and tradition here in this Greater Boston League and we are excited to bring you all the action. And for the Crimson Tide, if they can get this win, the next few games could prove to be where the Tide will start to rise. So, again, season is not lost. Coach Jerry Boyce will have his guys ready to
004play and we are looking forward to the action. For the Highlanders, it's no it's it's no surprise that they're in this position being a consistently strong team. They're led by Coach Mark Antonelli, who is taking the sideline in his 18th season. Congratulations, Coach Antonelli. That's That one achievement. Well, it is, too, and right and it just shows you that that foundation has been built over a long time. So, these players know what to expect under that leadership and it shows with the Highlanders off and having the year that they're having. Right now, you can see the two teams heading to the benches and at this time we will send it down to our public address announcer, Chris Miller. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Everett High School for tonight's GBL matchup between the
005Highlanders and Somerville and your Everett Crimson Tide. NOW, FOR TONIGHT'S STARTING LINEUP, WE BEGIN first with the visiting Highlanders. Starting at guard, a junior, number two, Julian Goodrich. >> [cheering] >> A senior guard, number one, Jacob Underwood-Roach. >> [applause] >> A senior guard, number three, Lamari Reed. A senior guard, number 30, Danny Schmidt. And a senior forward, number 34, Carlos Zambrano. And now, for your Everett Crimson Tide. Starting at center, a junior, number two, Samir King. The doctor. >> [cheering] >> A junior guard, number 14, Jayden Allison-Gold. A senior captain guard, number one, Christian Vazquez. >> [applause] >> And our senior captain guard, number three, Jayden Jean-Charles. And your senior captain guard, number four, Adam Eight Musarurwa. At this time, you can please have your Rise Up Super Head ready to play in tonight's matchup.
006>> [music] [music] >> All right, so our lineups and national anthem are in the books and we are moments away from tipping off this showdown. Really excited, Justin. This is going to be I I think we're in store for a good one here. And it's really simple for the Crimson Tide, they are going to lean on the scoring of senior co-captain Christian Vazquez. He has been outstanding. He's been doing it. We've said it ad nauseam. He's been doing this since his freshman year. He's probably coming in around 25, 24 points per game. He can score in a variety of ways and he's also a really good defender. Oh, Josh. Let me tell you. Now, Christian Vazquez, here's a guy who you could give the ball to anywhere on the court. You know, he's good at
007the threes, he's good at the layups. And on the other side of the ball, he's going to get it from the other team. He's a guy that can do anything. I tell you what, this is what we're all about, watching a little Christian Vazquez and watching him spearhead and get the Tide flowing. Here we go. Tide won the opening tip. It's going to be point guard Adam Eight Musarurwa to get things started as he pilots the offense. And here he comes, Christian Vazquez. Just what Just what we said. He's the guy who you want to turn to when you want to get points on the board. >> [cheering] >> Down to five on the shot clock. Got to get it up. Good defense [cheering] there by the Highlanders. That was number one, Jacob Underwood-Roach. >>
008[cheering] >> Three-point attempt is no good by number 30, Danny Schmidt, but he did have a good look coming out of the corner. He sure did. Danny Schmidt coming in at 6 ft 0 in. Yeah, he's a 6-footer. That's a a height I know very well. You're more of the You're like a 6'2" guy. >> I'm about 6'2", yeah. You and I, Camely, you guys are both tall drinks of water in that case. >> You know, Camely Camely might have the edge on me, though. I don't know. We might have to go back-to-back after this. Camely might be a 6'2" and a half guy. I'll give him an eighth. Vazquez again working against some really solid defense by Underwood-Roach. Right in his face. But, that's what Vazquez does. He loves the fadeaway game from the
009elbow. He's terrific in that area. He loves it. And that defense actually was on Lamari Reed. Again, Josh, you said it at the top. You know, he's he's been on the varsity team since he's a freshman. He's a leader on the court and it shows. Anytime there needs to be a called play or points to be scored, you can bet that Christian Vazquez is involved. Yeah, that is consistency, no doubt. Schmidt with another missed three. Adam Eight Musarurwa wastes no time moving in transition. Tide now working against the half court. That's Samir King the doctor. It somehow just rings out. He got the unlucky bounce. It's a good take to the rim, too. Loose ball stays with the Highlanders. Lamari Reed misses the jumper, but we're going to have a foul underneath against the Crimson
010Tide. So, that'll be Highlanders basketball. They will inbound from the baseline. Schmidt will get the inbound going. We'll see what Coach Antonelli has for an inbound set play. Now, Josh, Everett defensively, you know, we talked a lot about Christian Vazquez, but I guarantee you we're going to hear a lot of one name on the rebounds and that's Adam Eight Musarurwa. Oh, yeah. Well, Adam Eight Musarurwa can do a lot of things. He He really facilitates the offense well and he's terrific defensively. Plays much bigger than he is. Always seems to be in the right place with his footwork. And right there, Adam Eight Musarurwa with a nice drive to the basket on a very nice pass, bounce pass hitting him underneath. And he's going to get two freebies at the line. Beautiful look into the
011basket. That's what you want to see. Knock down your free throws. There's a good look at the senior, Eight Musarurwa. Just all around really fundamentally sound basketball player. Can do it all. And he gets the friendly shooter's bounce. So, Tide with a quick four nothing lead to start things off here. You'd love to see it up two scores. And they're playing really well right now. >> [screaming] >> Vasquez on the rebound. Over to Eight Musarurwa. Now, a guy I like a lot is who just made that pass, Sameer King DeCosta. Well, that's a good look for Alcindor. He's got it. Nothing [cheering] but net as the kids say. The junior takes it from the wing and tickles the twine with that one. >> [cheering] >> It's going to be a miss from Jacob Underwood-Roach. Yeah,
012Underwood-Roach and the Highlanders now getting decent looks, good defense. They are now over three from downtown and are looking for the first points of the evening. Now, if I'm the Highlanders right now, I might be looking inside the paint just to get some points on the board. It's a pretty good starting point, and they have some size on down low. But, the the early three-point shots are not falling. Again, long way to go here. I'm sure that's a part of their game considering they're looking to take them. Nice cut to the basket by Vasquez on a beautiful feed from Sanchez. Tide with a really great start in this one, nine nothing. Vasquez for about, you know, three and a half minutes in, four points on the board. >> Yeah, no kidding. He's He's already looking
013at another robust scoring night as Vasquez really knows how to fill it up. That was a nice pass down low. That was some pretty good offense by the Highlanders getting their first points on the board. And Underwood-Roach going to get the first two points for the Highlanders. >> Yeah, it was a nice finish by Underwood-Roach trying to get over the outstretched hands of King DeCosta, and it was a beautiful feed. And that's one thing I noticed when the Highlanders walked in. Their team, it's a lot of big guys. Yeah, they're they're collectively big. They might not have that singular 6'6" guy, but they're big at all positions. Their guards and forwards are a really good blend of size, and when you have that and you play with that tenacious style, you can be a really
014tough outfit. Terrific defense by who else? Sameer King DeCosta. And he'll get it back. Eight Musarurwa just taking the lay of the land here, seeing what he wants to do. Another good strong cut by Eight Musarurwa on a nice pass by King DeCosta. Now, it's in the hands of your shooter. Down to 10 seconds on the shot clock. Ooh, Vasquez in his bag. Ooh. >> That was a good look at it, though. Nice rebound by Sanchez. >> Unbelievable. I thought that was going out for sure. >> Yeah, he he walked the tightrope and kept that in play. Tide with the fresh shot clock now. Up by seven here as we approach 2 minutes 45 seconds. Oh, strong take by Alcindor. He's got five quick points in this one. And that's the thing about the Tide
015I really like how well-balanced the team is. You know, everyone is looking really good on offense and defense right now. It's 11 to two. You got 2 minutes 25 seconds left. You're looking really good in this first period. First quarter, excuse. Tell you what, look at the effort. Two two jerseys, two Crimson Tide jerseys hitting the deck, getting some wood burns. That's what you love to see, laying it all out there. I believe that's going to be Highlander basketball, but it doesn't matter. When you got that kind of hustle, you got guys laying out like that, it means something to them. So, a timeout called by the Highlanders. Tide with a very quick start. We're going to get a look at that replay. That was a nice take by Alcindor. >> Oh my god. Alcin-
016Alcindor in coverage by [music] number 34, uh Carlins Lenius. >> Lenius. And uh I appreciate both teams today. We have our rosters not only, but they're in numerical order. It is a new day. No searching around to to find the names. I apologize if I do mess up your name. Uh I just work here. Yeah, no, that's it. We just just work here. It's all it is, okay? And um we're going to do our very best. Here's another look. Here's one of our other replays. Check out this drive by Eight Musarurwa who finds Alcindor. That's the other basket by Alcindor giving him five points. Beautiful drive and dish by Eight Musarurwa to Jayden Alcindor. A real nice look at it coming from our baseline camera. It looks like that shot was uh by our junior,
017Pedro Henrique Da Silva. >> Yes, Da Silva with the shot right there. Pedro, our junior on the baseline bringing those shots. Nice job queuing that up. All right. So, we're back in play after the timeout. Some of them with the basketball down by nine. That doesn't fall. The outside shooting continuing to not fall for the Highlanders. I will say that was a good look by Griffin there. No, and and again, you could see that that's something they want to do. They are looking for that perimeter balance to their offense. WOW! WHAT? ALCINDOR, are you kidding me? >> Alcindor said, "You got to stop saying Christian Vasquez's name. I came to play today." >> Yeah, he did. Yeah, he did. Wow, he's got seven on an acrobatic layup. He stayed in He stayed in the air
018for an extra count. And that was a nice basket right there by Lamari Reid. So, the Highlanders now getting on the board again, although it's been a low-scoring quarter. We we are under a minute and a half here, and the Highlanders with four points. But, that's why you play four quarters. Vasquez loves that view. That That doesn't fall, but that's a that's a shot he'll take he'll gladly have any moment. >> Every day. Tell you what, strong strong cut to the glass, and a really >> That's going to be Reid again? No, that was that was Bobby Two Grandison, and Bobby Two Grandison went high off the window, number four. A really nice cut. I think it was Reid who made the bounce pass to find Grandison. >> [cheering] >> I get confused sometimes. No,
019it's a lot happening right now. There's a lot when you got guys cutting to the basket. It's It's a quick quick second to have the ball, and then it's off their hands. Vasquez goes to the floor. We're going to have a jump ball. Possession now is going to stay with blue. The Highlanders will have possession. Nice job by Vasquez hitting the deck. Just a great effort and a great defensive play. Take a look at this. Comes right in front of him, gets his hand in there, stops the ball, gets right on top of it. You know, Boyce is happy with that play even though it didn't go anywhere. >> And this is this is all a product of coach Boyce and and his staff. They preach this kind of effort, maximum effort all the time.
020But, Carlins Lenius with the basket. Now, the Highlanders cutting into this deficit, getting a little bit of momentum on their side. Let's see if the Tide have the final answer as we approach 10 seconds in this first quarter. Yeah, the Highlanders are on a wee bit of a tear there. Uh and, you know, Everett going to answer right there. Alcindor again. FOR THREE. WOW! ALCINDOR, DING. Microwave's ready. I don't know if he put popcorn in it, if it's a hot pocket, but someone heated up Alcindor's food, and he's eating right now. Big time basket. They're going to call it a two. Apparently, had a shoelace on the line, but nonetheless, knocking down a big jumper like that with a hand in his face, showing that he's like, "Hey, coach, the hand's hot right now. Feed
021me. Let's go." I tell you, he He's got what, nine? Nine points. >> Of the 15 points that Everett has, Alcindor is on an absolute tear right now. We've been praising Christian Vasquez's name. He's been the leader. He's been the score leader. Take a look at this. The cheerleaders. Uh he's been the absolute score leader, but the entire first quarter ruled by Alcindor just like that. And looking at the replay, it was a little further inside the three that we could see. Uh we're at the opposite end of the court. Nonetheless, it was a big time basket by Jayden Alcindor who finishes with nine points in that quarter. After the quick start by your all everything Christian Vasquez, Alcindor said, "Hold on a second. Hold on a second. I can do this scoring thing, too."
022And here's another basket. How about this one? In traffic, between two players, gets it to go. He's fired up. Under- Underwood Roach If you saw the look on his face in that replay, he could not believe that Alsindor made that shot. And quite frankly, Josh, neither could I. Yeah, well, there wasn't much Underwood Roach could do. I mean, all 6'2 outstretched hands were in that picture, but Alsindor with the answer. So, here we go. 15 to 8 Crimson Tide basketball starting the second quarter. Good defense here. We're going to have a foul. So, it'll be Highlanders basketball. So, a really strong first quarter for the Crimson Tide coming out of the gates, really never looking back. As you mentioned, towards the end, the Highlanders did start to make a a wee bit of a a
023play there. And that's why we are going to have a basketball game on our hands. And again, that this is exactly how you want to see the Tide start after their win last week. You're coming from a four-game in a row loss to you you broke the streak, and now you want to get a brand new streak running. Yeah, and they they get a nice offensive foul against the Highlanders. We'll give it back to the Tide. So, here we go. Looking to add Ooh, the sophomore sharpshooter is now in. And that's number 24, Nathaniel Nelson. He got the start last last game against Glenn English, and he has played very well in the minutes that we've seen him. He's only a sophomore. He can really fill it up from the outside, has a strong feel
024for the game. But there's the guy right now. Who else? Ooh, just rings out. Alsindor did everything right. Underwood Roach just missing out on that. Here he comes. >> [cheering] >> Nathaniel Nelson comes into the game, immediately makes an impact with three points. That's what we talk about, Nathaniel Nelson. He's the guy that can do this sort of thing. Big-time shooter, comes right off. Immediate impact is right, and it's felt. Ooh, Eight Moussa Roug. OH, HOW DID HE GET that over the big fella? Eight Moussa Roug threw up the teardrop. It's starting to rain. I didn't know we had an open roof in this auditorium. It's not an auditorium, it's a gymnasium. And he buried that one. That was nice. And it's not like the Highlanders are playing a bad defense right now. You know,
025they're making great plays. Carlins in particular, number 34, Carlins Zelenius, is he's doing a great job stopping the ball. But you put it right into the hands of Eight Moussa Roug, and he knows exactly what to do with that ball. Big time. We're going to have another timeout called as the Tide now with a 12-point lead. They've got this into double digits. And a really balanced scoring sheet from the Crimson Tide, led by Jaden Alsindor and his nine points. But now you have Eight Moussa Roug starting to join the party. He's got four. Take a look at this. What a dish to King DeCosta, who gets foul gets the loose ball. Eight Moussa Roug comes back with it, and then he just went high. Raising a little bit of dust from from the top of
026the backboard. Just a really great job and great teamwork by the Crimson Tide there. So, 20 to 8 Crimson Tide lead with 5:54 remaining in the second quarter. So, Vasquez has four. Eight Moussa Roug has four. Alsindor has nine. And Nathaniel Nelson has three. And he had just checked into the game. So, you got a good balance going. Take a look at this beautiful dish from the baseline coming by way of Alsindor. Nelson wastes no time. He always loves the view. And this kid has confidence that can't even fit inside this gymnasium. He is always ready, and I love it. Seeing a young sophomore like that just ready at the whim. This kid's going to be special. And it just it just makes you wonder what is next for the Crimson Tide. Like we love
027our seniors and everything, but we're always looking forward to the next season. The and the growth of the team. The JV team looked pretty good today. And Nathaniel Nelson is got probably going to be the next Christian Vasquez, you know, making making his way to the leadership role. Absolutely. We had a a basket right there. You'll have to go back on I I was screened. I actually didn't see who finished that basket, but >> [screaming] >> That, I believe, was Danny Schmidt. Danny Schmidt for two. Highlanders needed that. Oh. >> [cheering] >> Nelson goes into the spin. Nelson looking like he wants to get a little fancy there doing the spin. And uh we're joined by uh fellow Nelson, Emmanuel Nelson, number 15, also in the game. Oh, back to the spin. He likes to
028He likes to put the laundry in the spin cycle. Nothing wrong with that. 7 seconds left on the shot clock. You got to put it up regardless of what Ooh. OH MY [screaming] GOODNESS. EIGHT MOUSSA ROUG. He said, "Justin, I'll put it up for you." I'll put it up for you. Don't worry. I hear you. I hear you. Buries that one. Tied with their biggest lead of the evening up by 15. Steal by Emmanuel Nelson. Fights through traffic, gets it off to Eight Moussa Roug, finds Vasquez. Oh, nice move. Oh. Oh, man, that was pretty. Almost went Ooh, we're going to have a foul on the loose ball against the Crimson Tide. So, it'll be Highlanders basketball. Foul coming on Samir King DeCosta. I'll tell you, Justin, Nathaniel Nelson looked like he was having fun
029skipping his way to the hoop on that one. I am I am all in on Nathaniel Nelson. All in. He's got big time written all over him. Ooh, good entry pass down low to Underwood Roach, but that rims out for him. And that goes out of bounds, so it's going to be Crimson Tide basketball. I like the effort showed by Bobby Two Grand-Doit. Grand-Doit, yeah, I'm going to go soft T. And that was good effort. Bobby Two definitely gave it what he could. Just ran out of real estate, but we we're here for the effort. Both sides. Love seeing the hustle. Ooh, now newly into the game for the Crimson Tide, that's number 23, Kim Adams-Dormevil. And Dormevil, only a sophomore. That's a big guy. Again, I love seeing the young talent, and just the
030future's looking bright for the Tide. Sure is. And he stepped on the baseline out of bounds. Crimson Tide basketball. >> [applause] >> Great effort. That's all I got to say. He He's putting in so much work. Yeah, I know it. I know it. Highlanders now putting on a bit of a zone full-court press. I mean, at this point, you got to you got to switch your tactics up a little bit because Everett has just been running the tape. No, Everett's done very well in the half court. And and a lot of it is predicated on on their defensive rebounding, able to turn those into transition the other way, and then again, just settling nicely in the half court. So, the Highlanders trying to change things up, overwhelm. Oh, there he is. Vasquez. [cheering] Vasquez took
031a little bit of a break, but now he's back in the action. He's got six. Tied up by 17. I don't know how many people had this on their bingo card, but it's it's a thing right now. Well, again, Josh, you said it. The Tide felt the losses. They they know what it means to win. They started the season with a win, and then they felt the losses. They felt the pressure. And coming into that, you know, you get your first win after a few losses, you you get the uh you get the hunger again. You get it back in you. Hungry. Yeah, they're they're playing great. And and this is what you want to see. I think what's what's more impressive is I mean, we're approaching the 2-minute mark. Summer only has 10 points.
032Have they scored this quarter? Uh only two points. Uh it was Danny Schmidt. Schmidt's got the two points. It was 15 to 8 tied after the first. And wow. Who else? Nathaniel Nelson. The sophomore coming into the game, immediately showing his impact. And he's got two threes already. Wow. Underwood Roach with the quick answer, but Tide overwhelming the Highlanders right now. Up 18 points, Josh. Building a bit of an undercurrent or a riptide. I like that. Got more coming for you. Ooh, here's the sophomore. Oh, I tell you what, I like the big fella showing some range. That was a good look by He's doing good. Tell you, I'm watching him too defensively. He's very active. That time, Colin Bourne was able to get over the outstretched hands of Dormevil, but uh I like what
033I'm seeing from the big sophomore. You know what else I like, Josh? I like looking on the sideline and seeing Boyce get into it. >> Oh, he's fired up. He's always He's always getting down, watching the ball, everything. And that's the other Nelson, Emmanuel. And not to say the other Nelson, just double trouble from the Nelsons as Emmanuel knocks down a three. Listen, we like the Nelsons in this part. Yeah, we do. >> We like the Nelsons on the big house, on the big hill. We're all about it. Nelsons always welcome. Ooh, Highlanders needed that one desperately. Julian Goodridge. That's his first points of the game. And a little bit of a flurry here from the Highlanders. While the Tide continue to score, but the Highlanders as they had 10 points, quickly got seven more
034on the board. So, 33-17 Crimson Tide. Well, again, Josh, you you you know, it it was 2 minutes, you've only scored two points the entire quarter. Great look by At Mouserut. At Mouserut's got the place rocking right now. IT'S A WAVE pool in this place. Could you say the tide is rising? Well, it's rising. But I tell you what, the Highlanders now with something to talk about as an acrobatic layup on back-to-back buckets by Julian Goodridge. How about this one? He goes high to the window. Off some good defense from Nelson. The hoop and some heart for Goodridge. And the Highlanders saying, "Hey, you know what? We're starting We're starting to wake up now. We're still down. We're going to get a little bit of confidence and we're going to have We might have a
035very wild second half in store. Still love where you're at for the Crimson Tide. We still got 9 seconds left here, but Goodridge at the line, chance at a three-point play. He just came off making a three from straight away. [cheering] And again, Josh, I love what I'm seeing from Somerville right now. You know, most teams, depending on where you are, >> [cheering] >> it's there's 2 minutes left and you're down by that many points, you might feel You might want to give up a little bit, but I love seeing the Highlanders, you know, just take control of the second of like the last few minutes of the second half or the second quarter, excuse me. Yeah, I tell you what. I mean, and then especially on that miss by Goodridge, uh Underwood Roach was
036able to finish with the rebound. So, that was a four-point play for the Crimson Tide. We were able to turn that I mean, for the Highlanders, actually. So, a four-point play for the Highlanders getting some more momentum back. Now they're down by 14 points still. For the Crimson Tide, that's exactly what you like to see the way they started the game. Pretty much all facets up until maybe the last 30 seconds will be something they'll want to talk about. But again, seeing that effort, seeing what they've been able to do with getting to their closeout spots defensively, turning it into good offense. This is everything that Coach Boyce and his staff wants to see. You talk about the energy from Coach Boyce on the sideline. Is it not contagious? Those guys are playing with it.
037You see it You see a coach who's into every possession. It's hard not to feed off that. That's what you love to see. But Josh, the Highlanders, 11 points in 2 minutes. Yeah, that's wild. That's right. No, you're right, because >> It's crazy. >> That's I'm I'm glad you pointed that out, Justin. That's exactly what happened. They had They had 10 points. We just talked about it at the 2-minute mark left in the first half, and then they exploded for 11. So again, nice place to be for the Crimson Tide, but you clearly know you have no time to rest, because now the Highlanders offense appears to have woken up, and that's why they are five and one. Don't get comfortable in that buffer, I tell you, because clearly the Highlanders are showing you why
038they just won the last four games in a row. But I tell you what, I am looking forward to the second half. Yeah, this is going to be great. We have a second half in store that you're not going to want to miss. So, Crimson Tide on top by 14. Stay with us, folks. This one's heating up. >> [music] [music] >> All right, we are just moments away from the start of the second half in what was a very exciting finish to the first half. Crimson Tide on top 35 to 21. But it was an 11-point flurry from the Highlanders in those last 2 minutes that really made this interesting. Otherwise, this was a complete high tide rising of epic proportions. But here we are, still a great place to be. We'll say that. You
039got a long You got a You got two more quarters to go here to keep that foot on the gas pedal, Justin. Josh, I said it at the end of the last half. You know, Everett has a comfortable buffer, but I wouldn't get comfortable with that buffer. The Highlanders have just shown how they were able to win the past four games, and it's it's the ability to put up a massive amount of points in just a small amount of time. 11 points in 2 minutes is insane to me. They went on an absolute tear. Their top scorer, Jacob Underwood-Roach, is doing a great job followed by Julian Goodridge with five. Underwood-Roach has six, Goodridge has five. Look at all these plays that Everett made. Right there. You're looking at a nice highlight package that was
040featuring Jaden Alsendoor in the terrific first half that he had. Alsendoor chipping in with nine points, and he is the Crimson Tide's leading scorer for that first half. The junior was on fire, and he showed his versatility in all the ways that he can score. And he is another terrific defensive player. One thing with the Crimson Tide, if you are going to get minutes on this floor, you have to do it on the defensive end. You talked about the outrageous 11 points that some of those scored in those final 2 minutes, a key factor into how that happened, Samir King DeCosta, number two, had to go to the bench, and that's when that scoring really seemed to get going for the Highlanders. We know how strong King DeCosta is defensively for the Tide. He really
041leads those efforts. You always want to see next man up and being able to fill that, but it was noticeable and palpable. Once he went to the bench, that's when that scoring onslaught took place for some of them. Yeah, you definitely love to see King DeCosta on the defensive end, and Eight Muusau on the rebounds on the flip side of that. He does a great job at rebounding the ball, and honestly, he's doing He He's no slouch himself with the points. Let's Let's talk about the points real quick. And actually, Alsendoor with nine, that's in a tie with Adam Eight Muusau. Eight Muusau has nine, Christian Vasquez has six, Nathaniel Nelson has eight, and Emmanuel Nelson has three. That's the Tide's scoring. It's balanced. It's looking good. Alsendoor starts it right off with the steal.
042Oh, they're going to get him for traveling violation. But you know, I like getting I like the I like the Tide getting aggressive here. You know, the Highlanders showed you what was up in the last 2 minutes of the last half, and you got to play them a bit tougher. The Highlanders have been led by Jacob Underwood-Roach with six points, and Julian Goodridge, he was a part of that 11-point flurry. He had just about half of it with five points. That's number two. Another steal. Uh-oh, watch out. It's Samir King DeCosta. >> [cheering] >> Good strong take by King DeCosta. I rose to my feet because I know Samir is an elevator man, but there was a lot of traffic there. Still strong take to the basket. Good defense by the Highlanders, but it'll be
043Crimson Tide basketball as they'll inbound underneath the basket. It'll be Alsendoor taking those shores. >> And just a great defensive play by Carlins Zalanius there. You know, he came in from the back of the court, slapped that ball out of bounds. Maybe he saved the two points. We're We're going to see here. Good take by King DeCosta. King DeCosta said, "You might have stopped me from getting my two points in, but I'm getting them. Don't you worry about that." >> that was a strong take. First basket of the game, the defensive specialist gets one big on the offensive end. And how about the defense by Alsendoor showing up and showing out to start this half. Alsendoor is all over the place defensively. And again, I like the look of Everett right now. You know, they're
044playing a more aggressive defense. Maybe, you know, you played a long first half, right? Maybe you were a little gassed at the end of it, but they're getting more and more aggressive as this game goes on. Yeah, no no doubt about it. Nice shot by Underwood-Roach. Now eight points to his name. Highlanders down by 14. 6 and 1/2 minutes left in this third quarter. Great cut to the basket. Better pass by Eight Muusau. Alsendoor once again does it. Alsendoor, a key component to this game. Just doing a really great job both offensively and defensively. And I'll tell you what, don't look now, but Underwood-Roach starting to heat up. It's 10 points for Underwood-Roach. Leading the way for the Highlanders. I did like what King DeCosta did there. He didn't force the foul. He maybe potentially
045give him an extra throw at the free at the free throw line. He did a great job. Just fell down. >> No doubt. He was trying to force the offensive foul, and uh it was just a better play by Underwood-Roach. Oh, good spin. Traveling is the call. Got to give it to the Highlanders, too. They're playing one heck of a defense right now. No surprise why they're five and one. Well-coached team. They play well within their sets. Fundamentally sound. Well, again, you got a 18-year veteran in coach Antonelli. No doubt about it. He's been coaching longer than some of these kids have been alive. >> That's correct. Wild to think that. Good defense by King DeCosta. Who else? Blocks that three-point attempt. Tide on the move. Vasquez, no good. Almost kept alive, but Highlanders have
046it. Now quickly moving it's Goodridge. Good pass. Goodridge with the look to Underwood-Roach with 12 points. Highlanders down by 12. Six points in the quarter so far. >> That's right. Now they're going to get Eight Muusau on the reach-in foul. He's usually really good at those rebounds, like getting the clean rebounds, too. And we have a timeout called by the Crimson Tide and coach Boyce as they're going to look to talk things over. Highlanders now They're They're They're They're coming for it. Tide still doing a good job of keeping that distance, but coach Boyce wants to make sure everyone everyone's in line ready for this this Highlanders attack. And I definitely agree with that call by coach Boyce. You know, maybe stopped the momentum. Underwood-Roach doing a great job getting points on [music] the board
047for the Highlanders. And the Crimson Tide, unfortunately, can't get out of their own way when it [music] comes to these fouls. Yeah, no, I know it. And a a lot of that sometimes is just, you know, you're again, you're you're playing with high effort, high energy. You might be the smaller guy trying to go up for a rebound. You're trying to still make a play. I mean, a lot of times that's how it happens. Still goes in the books as a foul, but Nice job by our Crimson Tide cheerleaders as always. Here we go. Here's a look at that block by Zalanius. Carlins Zalanius really scaled the ladder for that one. And he's really shown his key uh like why he's on the court right now for the Highlanders. He's made quite a few plays
048defensively just in this uh third quarter. And there's that excellent feed by Eight Muusau on a finish by Alsendoor. Nice job by our team bringing those replays. >> [applause] >> Good ball movement, but again, THERE'S THE DEFENSE. AND WHAT A SAVE BY SANCHEZ. AND ANOTHER BLOCK. WOW. HE'S OUT OF BOUNDS. IT'S GOING TO STAY with the Highlanders, but talk about that effort. One block from the corner three. Sanchez goes airborne to save it. They think they got a layup. King DeCosta says, "Uh-uh, not happening." And then they get it back again. But wow, Underwood-Roach continuing to have the answer. 14 for Jacob Underwood-Roach. >> And I don't know if Bird can fly us in a replay on that one, but I'd like to see that again. Oh, that was terrific. Oh, and they're going to
049get Al Sundoor for the offensive foul. Let's take a look. What a block. >> Oh, wow. Right in your living room. How about that shot? Look at he stayed in. And again. Pedro our junior. That's he's a junior in high school, not junior, but our junior cameraman. >> Yeah. Did a great job. >> Great job by Pedro da Silva getting that shot. And how about the effort on the court? I mean, the Crimson Tide bringing it, but here we are though. Don't don't go anywhere. This is a 10-point game. The Highlanders have quietly been chipping away at this thing. It's the Tide have maintained the double-digit lead, but it's it's hanging in the balance right now and good defense by the Highlanders is going to get that basketball back. Going to get the backcourt violation
050there. Here he is. Number 24 subbing in Nathaniel Nelson was huge in the second quarter. >> That's right. And that's when he entered the game and he did so by putting a quick eight spot on the board. Eight points in that quarter immediately making his impact and presence felt. >> And we'll look to see if Nathaniel can continue to provide the Tide with a boost. The Tide getting aggressive with their zone defense. Once again, who else leading the way defensively is King da Costa. [screaming] Highlanders get the rebound. That's a big one to get. Fresh shot clock. Good ball movement. Underwood Roach is hot. Doesn't make that one. Battle for the loose ball. Out of bounds. Highlander basketball. And there it is. I'll tell you Al Sundoor put his heart into that one. It just
051unfortunately had to go out of bounds there and he was the one to put it. Sure did. Oh, nice steal. Nathaniel Nelson out front. How about that defense by Goodridge? Put the track shoes on there to come back into the picture. Now he heads to the basket and finishes it off. And Julian Goodridge takes full credit on the exam there. Makes the steal one way, comes back, beautiful finish. We have a game now in single digits. Tied up by eight, but the Highlanders are coming. And that's a traveling violation. And again, Josh, I told like I said, Everett's just got to get it out of their own way here, you know. Some of these fouls you can't help. You're in the you're in the moment, you're trying to get them, but I think you got
052to re-center and I want to see first quarter Everett right now. And and correction, that was not a traveling violation. I reacted with the Somerville crowd who thought >> I didn't have a good look at it. It was a foul. So Crimson Tide ball. King da Costa able to get it out of the Highlanders grasp. >> And oh, wow. And bodies hit the floor there. Al Sundoor heads to the basket. Highlanders were trying to take the offensive foul. They're going to deem that the feet weren't set. It's going to be a blocking foul, but bodies hit the floor nonetheless. Gravity is real. >> Oh, man. And Al Sundoor hit that thing hard. He he did not look good getting up. Luckily, he did get off under his own power. He looks okay, but you know
053that's that's going to hurt in the morning. Nice job by Al Sundoor. Vasquez coming out. Number 15 Emmanuel Nelson coming in. Got both the Nelsons on again. I'm getting excited. >> I'm getting excited, Josh. >> And Al Sundoor makes them both. He looks confident on that free throw line. He's got 13 points. He's feeling confident. Oh, that's Tommy Griffin. Tommy Griffin >> for three. That's a big time basket. This is a seven-point game. OH, HOW'D THAT NOT GO? Eight Musuru did everything right. >> Eight Musuru just got a really unlucky bounce there and Josh, we're we're in for a game today. Oh, what a play BY AL SUNDOOR. HOW ABOUT that play? Got a paw on it like a bear catching fish in a stream. Was able to keep that from going out of bounds.
054Gets the jump ball call. That's Crimson Tide basketball. That's our superintendent in the background. Billy Harton joined the >> Billy Harton. Love it. This is great. >> I I Josh, I knew we were in for a game today. I didn't think it was going to be like this. >> This is wild. Oh, Nelson breaks it nicely. Nathaniel that is. Corner three from the other Nelson. King da Costa SAYS GO GO GADGET ARMS, BUT IT'S THE HIGHLANDERS WHO COME up with it. Go go gadget arms is crazy. That's no good. Out of bounds. >> Griffin stepped out there. Crimson Tide basketball. >> And and it looks like the the Tide defense is actually starting to force the fouls the other way now, which is really what you wanted to see. No doubt about it. That both
055teams have really been stellar defensively. Oh, they're going to get him or he Oh, no. Uh Backcourt >> Backcourt violation. They I could I could read the official's lips that he stepped once he was over half court, he stepped back with his other foot. That's a backcourt violation. Highlanders will take it. You know, we said it. Billy Harton's in the house. That's our athletic director. >> Athletic director Tammy Turner. She loves it. Great atmosphere. This is what you want to see. Good defense by Al Sundoor knocking that pass away allowing his team some time to reset on this inbound. and you know that's really all the Tide needs to do here is just play some clean defense, you know. Right now, my plan if I'm if I'm coach Boyce, I'm playing the clock game because
056the Highlanders, if they get the ball rolling, we've already seen what they can do. I'll [cheering] tell you what. We are getting a very good look at Jacob Underwood Roach who now has 16 points as we are 50 seconds remaining in this third quarter and this is a five-point game. Oh. Once again, really good defense by Carlins Lenious. Also in on the play was Jacob Underwood Roach. Just a look at Al Sundoor. Strong take to the basket. It will stay with the Crimson Tide. But Lenious is just crushing it on the Highland Highlanders defense. Eight Musuru from downtown. Oh, that doesn't go. The crowd wanted it. OH. OH, NICE NICE defense again hitting the deck. >> Again, we love the Nelsons. The Nelsons. I'm we're here for them. We're here for And to be fair,
057that was No, Nathaniel Nelson. Excuse me. Nathaniel Nelson with the great play. And again, like I said, Josh, I'm playing the clock game because the Highlanders are showing you that there can only be one. That's true. It's good good show on the USA Network. Jacob Underwood Roach is his own show right now as he has 18 points. He's totally taken over this game and he's got the Highlanders on the doorstep right now with a chance at a three-point play. There's a good look at the senior 6'2 heads to the basket. [cheering] Handles the basketball very well. That is a grown man's finish with style. King da Costa gets the rebound. Almost loses it over to Al Sundoor. Al Sundoor trying to beat the buzzer. But a foul is going to be called with 2.1 seconds
058remaining here in the quarter. >> And that's on the floor, so we're going to have an inbound right here on the baseline. So this is going to have to be quick. Not not like hey hot potato quick, but you don't have too much time. Let's see if they can get the right right inbounds play and you'll have you'll have a good look with two seconds. Let's see. Oh, it's Vasquez. He's the guy. Got to get rid of it. Vasquez from downtown. That shot was blocked and the Highlanders wearing the momentous patch as they finish the quarter very strong. Tide still on top right now, but it is whittled down to a three-point Josh, when we started the half, the Highlanders were down by 12. Now they battled and battled. They they went uphill to get
059close to the Tide and it it it's unbelievable what they're doing with the ball. Now again, I personally I think that the Tide is doing a great job. They're not making too many mistakes, but the Highlanders are able to capitalize on anything that the Tide does. >> [cheering] >> And there is our superintendent, Billy Hart, taking in the action. Enjoying the performance by our Crimson Tide cheerleaders and also our basketball team in the environment here. Billy Hart just does a great job. You know, you see him at all the events. He He's always smiling. He's always happy. Great guy all around, as well. Yeah, that energy permeates itself throughout the Everett public school system. And uh that's why this is a special place to be, led by a special special man, Billy Hart. But right
060now, if you are just joining us, we have a three-point game entering the fourth quarter. What happened in that third quarter, you ask? It was the Highlanders outscoring the Tide 17 to 6. This was a 35-21 Crimson Tide lead at halftime. The Highlanders flipped the game on its head, and here we are. Tide now hanging on to a three-point lead. We have eight juicy minutes coming your way in this final frame, or maybe we'll have more. I don't know. We don't get We don't have ties here, but we We're going to see what unfolds in these 8 minutes. You know, Josh, I prefer the no ties to no ties. I want to see the finish. I want to I I want there to be a distinct winner. I I I take that, as well. And
061again, the Highlanders really have upped their defense. I don't know Again, I don't know what's in the water over in Somerville, but That's the Mystic. The Mystic for you. Oh, wow. Good take by Alcindor, who's hit the floor almost every possession tonight. This poor kid. Yeah, he's going to be He's going to be sleeping well. I mean, wow. He's tough as nails, though. He gets up. No No grimace. I mean, he is good to go. Take a look at it. Oh, yeah. No No doubt about that foul. That was a no-doubter, as they say. A foul that you you You're going to earn. Is that what they say in the business? I think so. I'm pretty sure I heard that once. You know what I like about the Tide here? They have so much confidence
062in Alcindor's ability to make the free throws. They're not even on this side of the court. Yeah, I know. I know it. They're like, "You know what? We're We're good. You You just cook, Jaden. You cook." He's got 14 points. Check that. 15. >> [cheering] >> Love it. And he is battling Underwood Roach for the game's leading scorer. That goes to Underwood Roach right now, who has 18 for the Highlanders. What I think's interesting here, Josh, is I believe that the Highlanders have targeted Christian Vasquez, because we said his name a a lot in the first quarter. And uh haven't haven't really heard much from him since. >> Yeah, no doubt. They They certainly You can see the onus is on wherever number one, Christian Vasquez, is on the floor for the Highlanders. They're doing
063a great job tracking him. That's a jump ball. That's going to be Crimson Tide possession. That's exactly what the Tide needs right now to sustain this lead. And again, Highlanders now in that full-court press. Sanchez working against Schmidt. King DeCosta. Tell you what, King DeCosta was soaring through the air. He went high into the sky. He's up there. I'm telling you. Check this out. And again, who's behind the pass? It's Eight Mouserud. I mean, that is That is takeoff right there. I thought I thought we were going into the back routine. I thought we were going to see some pull-ups on the rim. >> [cheering] >> Got that replay from a carrier pigeon. That's right. Is bird marching? Yeah, the bird marching, uh courtesy of that replay. I know you're laughing at that one, bird.
064You're welcome. King DeCosta one and one right there. >> [cheering] [cheering] >> Rebound out of bounds. It's going to be Somerville basketball. >> I'll tell you, Josh, Danny Schmidt came in there. It looks like he was flying to try and get that ball back in the hoop. Yeah, he definitely Danny Schmidt maxing out the effort. Schmidt gets a good look from the corner three, and he's got it. Danny Schmidt says, "I'm here. I'm checking in." This is a three-point Crimson Tide lead. The big house on the big hill. Always something special happens in this building. Oh, nice take by Alcindor, but it just doesn't fall. Good take. That's what you want. Uh-oh. That's Julian Goodrich. Julian Goodrich is He's a great player. Uh just in the paint, he's able to get through a wave of
065Crimson Tide and make that play up there. Well, this is now a one-point game, >> [cheering] >> and Goodrich has nine for the Highlanders, as they come up with that chaotic rebound. It's a great block by Vasquez there. You got to slow him down. OH! OH! KING DECOSTA SAYS, "NOPE. Not happening." Jaden Sanchez Eight Mouserud calling a play. Alcindor drives to the basket, over to King DeCosta. Tide taking their time, down to 10 on the shot clock. Great play by King DeCosta there. Waited for his moment. Waited Waited for his moment, and just a great effort. >> Big time. Uh-oh. I don't like the look of that. >> I don't, either. I hope that is uh Let's Let's Let's hope that that is not what what it may appear. Or maybe it's just a collision
066of knees. Let's hope. I I I think that's I think that's what it was. I believe it was him and for the Tommy Griffin. >> Tommy Griffin. Yeah, I think I I think there was a bit of a collision. Hopefully, he'll be able to get back. Got our trainer. Yes, that is our trainer, Kimberly Firth, along with our athletic director, Tammy Turner, paying some attention. Here is the that last basket made by King DeCosta, who went up in traffic, throws it nicely off the window. And that is a really good sign, as you'll see coming out off the replay. There's King DeCosta able to walk off on his own power. So, I think it was what was speculated. I think it was a collision of knees, which can definitely be a whammy, but the good
067news is it's not It's not like something like after that initial pain, usually, you know, you might have some swelling, but yeah, you can walk it off. So, that's good to see. We know the presence that is felt when King DeCosta is on the floor. So, replacing King DeCosta will be the sophomore who we saw in the first half providing some good minutes. That's Kim Adams Dormevil. So, Tide basketball up by three, but some daunting pressure by the Highlanders. There may have been a miscommunication there between Eight Mouserud and Vasquez, because Vasquez was expecting the ball a little bit further up the court. And I really like what Everett does. You know, they they are up, but they take their time, and Eight Mouserud calls the play. There's 3 seconds left on the shot clock.
068Well, that's just enough time for Vasquez to shut ME UP YET AGAIN. Vasquez with a big hoop. He's got eight points. Tide up by five. Schmidt's going to try it from downtown. That doesn't go. Vasquez with the rebound. Looks like we have a timeout called. And that'll bring out our Crimson Tide cheerleaders. I believe that timeout was taken by the Tide, and I like it And you know, Boyce just might not have liked what he saw, like on the positioning of the players. Maybe give him a breath, as well. You know, running back up and down those courts, I it's like doing your stairs. Oh, yeah. You love the stairs. Quick little heart ascension. It's all about the anaerobic heart rate or just accelerated. Crimson Tide cheerleaders under the direction of Taylor Leo. Taylor Leo
069>> does a great job. Excellent job. Been doing it for a long time. Class of '05 grad here at the high school. Let's take a look at this. Vasquez nice little layup here. Drives baseline, gets over the defense handled by Tommy Griffin. And now you're seeing Coach Boyce in the middle of that huddle drawing up some strategy for these final 3 minutes and 42 seconds tied hanging on to a five-point lead. This has been a terrific basketball game, one that the Crimson Tide I'm pretty sure the Tide Yeah, the Tide have led this entire game. From start to finish. It was actually a a nine-nothing start to the game or seven-nothing and it was nine-two or what have you, but here we go. So, we have an exciting finish in store. King Dacosta comes back
070in and shows us why. Great job by King Dacosta getting that getting those two points that the Tide need to extend the lead. It's going to be a jump ball. So, jump ball is the call. Somerville going to keep possession here. Quick pass. Good defense. >> Great defense. And the Highlanders actually Coach Antonelli will will get the timeout called. Smart. >> That was smart because they were entering no man's land. And now they were just barely able to get it out to Reed there. And you know, you you got to you you got to regroup. Oh, yeah. Having having the full force of the Tide come at you all at all at once there, it'll scare anybody. But great call by Antonelli taking that timeout. And a great shot by our own Tony Laidlaw. >>
071On camera two today. On camera one, Maria Helena Rangel. And of course, we've said his name twice today. We'll say it again. Camera three, Pedro Henrique de Silva. >> Yeah. >> Doing a great job. Doing a great job. >> Love our camera ops. >> [cheering] >> Of course, the the guys in the back doing a great job as well. Our director for this evening, Animo Osmani. Our engineer, Joe Camley. And our stream tech extraordinaire, Jeff Nacio. And of course, we mentioned the fight taken by our replay technician Bird. Jonathan Bird Marchant. Hi, Bird. Hey, Bird. How you doing, Bird? Somerville going to inbound the ball here. Nice little reset for them. Great timeout call. But again, the Tide looking great on defense. Did not make it. I tell you what, the best thing you can
072do defensively is when you hear that buzzer, a shot clock violation. That's when defense is at its finest. 35 seconds, the Crimson Tide defended without a shot getting off. That will make any coach happy. There's a look at Coach Antonelli and the Highlanders as they are now down by seven again. Tide trying to put the final stamp on this one. I like Nelson and Musuraca's little little dance there. You're going to get in my face, I'm going to give it back to you. You're going to get in his face, we're going to give it back to me. It's all good. NELSON FOR THREE. WOW. Not sure if that was for three. That was for two. Just inside the paint. That's right. Okay, cuz they were up by seven. Good call. Good call. That's right. >>
073That's 10 points for Nelson. That is a three. That was Julian Goodridge who has had quite a ball game for the Highlanders. That's 12 points for Goodridge. >> Yeah, and Highlanders going to take another timeout here. Let's take a look at this. Yeah, he was definitely inside the paint. But I'd tell you what, Nelson, he came into the game, started showing us why he's in the game as sophomore. Great job. He's making phenomenal buckets. Yeah, he he's been he's been really terrific. He's doing He's doing a great job and I really like what I'm seeing from Nathaniel Nelson. Just the way he's been playing, getting those three-point shots, getting those looks. And then also just being in the right place with with all his things. He's really done an outstanding job. We're very very happy
074to see all the things that he's done. And we really just like again, everyone that stepped on the floor has has brought an energy that has put them in that position to be on the floor. That's something that that that's how you get on the floor in the first place. It's got to start the defensive end we talked earlier and it shows itself. And then good defense leads to better offense and that's what you're seeing from the Crimson Tide tonight. The Highlanders have battled. They have hung in this one. We still have 2:23 left, but the Tide kind of again, raising the water levels a little bit that that last bit of the fourth quarter up by six. Still want to You don't want to breathe easy, but definitely in position A right now. And
075I really like how the Tide is playing their defense. You said it. They're they're playing a great defense which is leading to the great offense. I know you just said it, but I like the way you said it. >> Thank you. >> I'm I'm going to say it again. >> I'm here for it. I'm I'm here for all of it. Okay, so out of bounds, 2:22 left in the quarter. In the game actually. >> Those are my keynote numbers. My keynotes. We'll play the multiplier. Play my wife's birthday. 222. It's not her birthday actually. She's >> I was going to say something. March 12th. It's fine. Good story. Oh, nice pass by Nelson. If Mrs. Delgado is watching, she might be a little mad at you. Yeah, yeah. SHE PROBABLY IS. OH, WOW. GOODRIDGE. I
076TELL YOU, Goodridge has really had a game. >> He's heating up. And this is why this game is Oh, no. Oh, no. Uh-oh. And this is what we saw in that third quarter. You know, that the Highlanders start playing and start ripping and ripping, they're they're going to get in your face. Griffin going to get a foul there. >> Yeah, Griffin picks up the foul. Good job by King Dacosta handling the basketball. But yeah, don't go anywhere. This is a four-point game that Somerville press is really starting to show itself. It's it's making a lot of things happen, overwhelming the backboard of the Crimson Tide. Goodridge has 14 points to go along with Underwood-Roche's 18 points. >> [cheering] >> So, you could see that there's a you know, a duo a scoring duo for the
077Highlanders. >> Yeah. That's going to be a foul over here. Actually, that You know, uh Sanchez uh no. Excuse me, looking at the wrong And that's going to be free throws. >> Yeah, that was Reed who made the foul. A little bit of a body on Vasquez there. >> Yeah. Well, that that is the fifth foul putting the Crimson Tide in the bonus. So, all fouls from here on out, shooting or not, will be free throws. And Vasquez is the guy that you love to see at the line. But again, if you're Antonelli, you have to play uh you if you're the Highlanders, you have to play that aggressive. And that's unfortunately, it's going to force the foul. Uh speaking of fouls, if you look at the fourth quarter, Everett big old goose egg on
078the fouls. That's wild. And Vasquez is good for those two. Knocks them both down. 10 points for Vasquez. And don't let Goodridge anywhere near inside the paint. Ooh, good D by Vasquez. He got a piece of that. Ooh, eyes up the floor. And Coach Boyce is going to take a timeout. Good call. Great call by Boyce. You know, Vasquez was heading into open water essentially. There was no one there. I mean, on the Tide. There was no one from the Tide in front of him. That's right. >> So, you got to you got to you got to build a play there. That was big. Oh, yeah. Minute 28 to go. And I think the Tide are doing exactly what they need to do. You know, they're playing really good defense. Uh when the ball comes,
079they're slowing it down, you know, playing the clock a little bit. and Somerville finally catching on to that and playing the press defense. Yeah, and and their press defense has been effective. I mean, it's definitely it's it's it's met with some quickness. And if the the Tide, who have done a good job with their passing to beat it, if if they're not exactly sure on where that that ball is going, that's where it can it can get flipped on its head. But the the Highlanders have have seen some success with that. That's helped to get them back into this game. But the Tide doing a good job in these later stages here of trying to stave off this rally with 1:28 remaining, up by six. Yeah, and if you're Mark Antonelli, I mean, you you
080got to go deep into your 18 years of uh of coaching for this one. I mean, you're the the Highlanders, you're doing a great job with the press defense. It's working for you. But unfortunately, now that you're at the five-foul mark, anytime something happens, you're giving essentially free points to the Tide, and you don't want that to happen. Joe Cameli's in the house. Thank you, Joe Cameli. It was a very important document he just handed me. Joe Oh, his foot slipped out. That's too bad. We saw it right here. Unfortunate, but again, that's that's what the Highlanders need right now. They need the Tide to slip because we've seen it time and time again in this game. Now, granted, Everett's been up the entire game, but anytime they slip or anything like that, the Highlanders
081take full advantage. They find it wide-open Vasquez, who's going to slow it down. No need to rush here. Alcindor facing the trap. He's going to get fouled, and Alcindor is now going to go to the line. And Alcindor, he's a sniper with those free throws. I tell you what. Alcindor has 15 points, and he has just been terrific in all phases here tonight. Does a great job there. Extends the lead. Tide up by seven points here. If my math's correct. Yeah, I uh yeah, that seems right. All right. I uh was able to kind of break down the long division of that. Here is a guy. >> [cheering] >> Knocks them both down. Alcindor, here's a guy who knows how to make a free throw. >> Yeah, 17 points tonight. And again, I love the
082confidence in the player. Anytime there's a free throw and Alcindor is at the line, the Tide just goes to the other side of the court. They know they're going to go down there anyway. Tommy Griffin, no shot. >> [cheering] >> Somerville in desperation mode. And the Tide doing their darndest on defense. King DeCosta with the rebound. >> That that should do it. And Somerville will foul, and Vasquez will go to the line looking to close this one out. >> [cheering] >> I like the shoulder release on Vasquez there. Yeah. He's got a little tension in the shoulder. >> release. Little release. Going to release it. And I tell you what he did right there, knocking down that first one. They know I know Somerville went on a 11-point tear in 2 minutes, but you got
08310 seconds left, and I don't think you're making up nine points. Yeah, I mean, Goodrich Goodrich hits that one to go along with now 16 points for Goodrich, who's paired up in quite the duo scoring role with Jacob Underwood Roach. But yeah, I know, that's I mean, Is it's doable. Don't get me wrong. I mean, you got one timeout left. You'd have to make a three. You'd have to make what? Two threes and a two. Maybe a free free throw. You're looking at what would have to be the perfect storm to happen. So, what would what would actually have to have? The Crimson Tide, who would, you know, again, if if they're getting the inbounds, they're going to get fouled, they'd have to miss their free throws, or Somerville's going to have to just steal
084the inbounds. But uh you're being down seven, Well, that's why you watch the whole game, Josh. >> Absolutely. I'm interested to see what they do here. I wonder what uh coach I I wonder what the call is. I like the call from Everett here with this inbound. There we go. Nathaniel Nelson will inbound. He can run the baseline. Gets it to Vasquez, who's immediately going to have to get fouled. And again, that's that's who you want to get fouled if you're on the Crimson Tide side of things. It's either him or Alcindor. Right. Vasquez with 11 points looking to add to his totals, and Alcindor is leading the way with 17 points. Alcindor put in work this game. Ait Moussaoui with a nine. Mhm. And let's not underscore it, Nathaniel Nelson also in double figures
085with 10. So, three players for the Crimson Tide in double figures. >> [cheering] >> They're actually going to put the Tide underneath their basket here. I like it. Yeah. Just grab it, go down. Maybe wait out 5.4 seconds. Nothing wrong with that. Perhaps, you know. Vasquez now with 12. Yep. >> Boom. 13 for Vasquez. And that is going to be the game with the score Everett 59, Somerville 50. What a great win for Everett. You know, coming in, they just ended their losing streak. They're coming in, they got a win last week, and now they're going to start a W streak. They're going to start getting the wins. And you know, cherry on top, Josh, cherry on top? You stopped Somerville's win streak. No doubt about it. That was big. You halted a four-game winning
086streak by the Highlanders, and now they you gave them their second loss in the season. A very good run by the Highlanders in this game, staying with it, and their defense getting them back in it, but too much Tide for four quarters in that one, and that's what did it here. And And as you alluded to, now the Tide with the chance to start stacking some wins, their second in a row. Now they're up to three and five. This This is why you play out the full strength. There's a long way to go here. The next few games are right in the Tide's rearview. They can keep this thing going with that kind of effort, the attention to detail. Coach Boyce has the guys ready to play. They look good, and this is a chance
087for the Tide now to really rise up the standings with the record, and let's let's see how this plays out. But we are very excited for what's in store. But a big one here. It was the Crimson Tide taking this one 59 to 50. And of course, we want to always credit our crew. Our director for this evening was Aneem Osmani. On replay, we had Jonathan Bird Marchand.
