001Number 13, Chloe Benjamin. Number seven, Bertha Flores. And number five, Angela Landie. And now the starting lineup for your Lafayette Lions. >> And number one, Reese Freeman. Number 12, Destiny Sandberger. [cheering] Number three, Eliia Patterson. [cheering] >> Number 18, Juliana Shbo. [cheering] [applause] >> And number 19, Maria Claraara Diaz. >> [cheering] >> At this time, we ask you to please rise, remove your headwear for the playing of tonight's national anthem. >> No problem. [music] Anything? [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hallelujah. [music] Hallelujah. [music] >> [music] >> Good evening everyone and welcome to the Big House on the Big Hill for the Everett Public Schools Middle School Basketball Championship. and we're going to tip things off in the girls division between the Parkland Panthers and the Lafayette Lions. I'm Josh Delgazo. This is Justin Han

002and we are very excited to be bringing you the action live of course for a big one here in the ultimate bragging rights in the city. Justin, what do we look for tonight? >> Well, you know, Josh, I'm always excited when it's the middle school basketball championship cuz no matter what happens, we win. It's Everett v. Everett. I No notes. No notes. I'm really excited to see how the girls perform today. And you know, Coach Riley Dunn in the high school. She's going to be taking a close look at this team. No, we are very excited. A lot of talent on hand. You said it best, Justin. The city of Everett truly wins here. And we start off. It's Panther basketball. Palmland Panthers dawning their traditional blue colors with yellow lettering. Facing off with the

003Lafayette Lions on defense with the black color and yellow numbering. Now Josh, uh I know that we did this event last year, but I'm a little foggy. The Parland was also in this last year, weren't you? >> Yes. So the Parland is a regular in the championship. They got something brewing over there on Broadway in the heart of the city. They are they are constantly here in both the boys and girls division. While the Lafayette Lions are no slouches themselves, they often find a way to roar to the top and you you see them here in this game. What's more for this one is that we have the same matchup in the boys division which will follow after this. So it is total bragging rights between Lafayette and Pin for the rights to the best

004middle school team in the city. So we're really excited. >> Yeah, definitely. And I really love uh you know that the Lafayette Lions, they they uncaged the Lion here and he's here with us in the crowd tonight. >> Yeah. No, literally I I I I don't want to blow the teaser up. I mean, it it it's it's not a live lion, but I'm telling you what, you look quickly and the main certainly looks ferocious. And I'm telling you what, that lion is ready to wreak havoc and score some fandom for his team. First off, we have our first basket of the championship put in by number one. That is Reese Freeman. And I'm telling you right now, I recall Reese Freeman last year for the Lafayette Lions, a star player, and we are very excited

005to see what Ree can do knocking down those two free throws. >> Yeah, I definitely remember uh saying Reese's name a lot last year, and we're going to be expecting a lot from her again this year. >> Yeah, if memory serves correct, this this might be I think this matchup is running back from last year. I think this was the exact match. >> I am a little foggy on it. >> No, and I I listen I it wouldn't be the first time that you know maybe maybe I wasn't uh totally accurate because you know of course those all those kickoff blocks back in the day for coach Milo and coach Dib. You know sometimes it shakes up the attic a little bit. But I know I know that name Reese Freeman. I also know this

006one too. That's Destiny Sandberger. Sandber. You don't you you don't forget that Sandberger put on a show last year, too. In fact, I think it was Sandberger who had the game-winning hoop, >> I believe. So, >> yes, cuz we were going ham on it. Ham on the burger. So, Sandberger definitely bringing it. And uh yeah, I I look for the Lions definitely to remain uncaged. [cheering] >> It's a great steer by the parl there. [cheering] Unfortunately, couldn't get a hold of it. That's going to be number six for the Panthers. That is Camila Landerie. >> Land of >> excuse me. Uh these rosters are not in numerical order. So it might take us a little bit until we get into the SW. >> I mean if I'm going to have a rooting interest Lafayette definitely

007set us up to win. They did numerical with starting five. Palin, I love you. I went there, but you know I I I have not numeric and uh they're at the end of the name. But we'll make it work. We're professionals. We'll figure it out. [cheering] Of course having fun with it. We know we know everyone here is doing a great job putting their their best clipboard to drawing up a play for the for the team. Thank you. I see you laughing. Yeah, you're a great audience. >> Love to see it. >> You love to see it. Oh, a battle for a loose ball. >> That's going to be a jump ball. >> Our first tie up of the night. Our first jump ball. And the arrow is going to be Looks like they already

008made the quick switch cuz it looks like Pylin's inbounding. But Lafayette is the designated home team for this one. >> Wow. Do >> you feel that? >> I do. We got the uh Lafayette Lion uh cheer team right next to us and they're they're starving and I can feel it. >> Oh yeah, I know. They uh if the camera's moving. Blame the Lafayette cheerleaders. And there's the lion. You saw the lion. >> Oh, I saw >> Lafayette led by head coach Joanna Murray who was very gracious in helping me get the rosters. But how about that? off the window from downtown number 23 Elise Cashas. >> And you know that she made that look easy too. Uh kid Cashes definitely someone that we're going to look out for in this game tonight. >> So Palin

009now with a 3 to2 lead with early on. And just so you know the way this works, you can see our scoreboard in the bottom right corner of your picture. This is running time. So it's two 20 minute halves running time in the second half. If I know when it gets to the final 2 minutes, then I think it does pause for stoppages. Okay. >> Uh memory might serve me. I might need to revisit this. In the first half, I think it's literally running time until all the way down, but it may also be that two-minute rule. I know that rule does apply in the second half at the least. So, it's not it's no error of the scoreboard if the clock's still ticking. And right now, once again, Reese Freeman continuing to show why

010you do not want to put Reese at the line. Now, four for four and four Lion points. She does a great job and you know she makes it look a lot easy. Uh like I said uh yesterday when we were doing the boys game, I can't shoot those. I'm not I'm not a very good hoops player, but but you know the these young kids are making it look easy tonight. >> You want the traffic. You want the the difficult shot. That's the one you make. I hear you. >> Dantis coming up with the steel. >> Six Land of Birdie again. Great defensive player. >> But the uh the Lions number 12 going to uh get that out. Destiny Sandberg. [cheering] What did we tell you? What did we tell you? Yeah, Destiny was big time

011last year. She sure was. So early on in this one, four to three. Panthers on top. They are the road team in this one. Freeman now pushing the pace trying to get ahead of the pack. >> Drives baseline. Oh, nice drop off pass just through the wickets. But that was a good dish. Just went through the hands of number 19 Maria Claraara Diaz. [cheering] And also Justin worth pointing out to our fans at home there is no shot clock. So you could basically I mean if you want to really slow things down as long as you're getting past half court you could you could camp out with the basketball if you so choose you know but then where's the sportsmanship on that? That was another great play. >> Yeah, that was a great take right

012here. We'll get a number. That was number three. Nice, beautiful layup by Alia Patterson. Aliah Patterson. >> Eliah Patterson. And that's going to make it 6-3 in favor of the Lafayette Lions. >> Yeah. And uh another steel and Sandberger now going to work looking for some help. Finds Freeman. >> And again for those of you that have that watched this last year. Freeman was nailing him. Just like that. >> Just like that. Just on Q. The crystal ball of Justin Indian Luther Han sees all. And that is a three off the glass. Banks open a little bit late here on a Wednesday night. Don't look now. Freeman already has seven points. Unbelievable. >> Comes up with a rip right there. >> Great steal from Freeman there. >> And a great save. You know, I got

013to keep your balance in those walking the tight rope right there. Come on. Kidding me. >> Great steal. kept it from going out of bounds. Goes baseline. Why not? >> How do you do? Reese Freeman says, "Hey, car's in cruise control right now." >> Now, Reese Freeman then that had to admit that she was in seventh grade last year. >> Yeah. Wow. What a talent. >> Okay. I'm sure that has uh Coach Dunn's attention and a a wise timeout called by the Panthers as they're trying to stop this early burst >> by the Lions. >> I tell you, they're down by eight. >> And I think you got to get on the uh you got to get on the offensive a little bit more here. I mean, you're doing pretty well on the uh defensive

014side of the ball. Uh look at this. Look at they let him out of the cage. >> Oh man. And that's the lion. >> That's the lion. Sorry, we get distracted. >> You're going to you're going to break you're going to break thought when you see a lion. like that. Hamming it up. >> Like I was saying, Camila Landie made a few steals uh for the Panthers there and she's been a great player so far, but I tell you, the Lafayette Lions under Freeman's direction, it's going to be hard to beat. I mean, already nine points for Freeman. nine of the 11 points with a three-pointer. Four free throws made and the the three-pointer made by the Panthers was Elise Cases. They found Land of Birdie right off the glass, but yeah, she had a

015good look at it. >> No, that was a good look. Juliana Juliana Shaveo came up with the rebound. Sandberger tries it from downtown. No good. Rebound goes to the Panthers as they push the pace. >> I like the play there. Slow it down. No need to rush into it. Oh, Sandberg with the theft. I'll tell you what, I liked the play there. A little bit of misdirect. Thought you were going in for the layup, but you can't can't play those games against the Lions. You're in their den right now. >> Oh, you're in their den. Is right. [cheering] Sandra is going to try another one from downtown. That doesn't go. rebound Panthers. >> She's got a really nice shot though. I mean, we've seen her we've seen her attempt twice. Unfortunately, can't make the bucket

016yet, but good form. Oh, it the time will come. Samberger comes up with the rebound. >> Piloting the offense, heads to the basket. Nice take. Good defense right there. >> Yeah, great defense. It's number 13 on the defensive play, Khloe Benjamin. >> Land's calling the plays for the Panthers right now. >> Yeah, it looks like Lander's going to handle the uh, you know, running of the Panther offense >> from the point guard position. >> Now, Josh, I I tell you, I like the way that the uh the Lions are playing. They're playing a little bit of the, if you'll allow me, the Bills offense. Everybody eats. Now the parlay they look they're looking like Land of Verdie is their shot caller and you know I think you might want to spread it around a little

017bit more cuz clearly you're going to need to do something else here. >> Yeah. Well they they uh just three points so far to show and and again running time but we are halfway through the first half and we have a whistle here. Looks like a foul and lacing up of a sneaker. We're going to see our first substitution of the game. >> All right, it's the Lions. >> There's number three coming. >> Yeah, Lia Patterson checks out for number 20. That is Angelina Ravisi. [screaming] We got another substitution coming in. 19 uh for the Panthers coming in. >> All right, that's going to be number 19 is >> Mariano Flores Flores. >> Let's see what Land Verdie can dish out. Danger of the 8-second violation. Gets it over. >> Someone needs to help. I

018don't know. I had it in front of you. Maybe you didn't realize miscommunication. >> I I think that's all you got to do. It's a good call, Justin. You just got to talk right there. Maybe didn't realize that 21 was on her team. Um >> Oh, great steal by Lander Verie there. >> Excellent job by Landervery coming up with that steal. And we're going to have a carrying violation that's going to go back to the Lions. I tell you, Josh, they even had to break out the second bleachers for this game. Normally, it's just a one-sided event. You know, we don't break out the second bleachers. Uh but when you're bringing all the parents from the middle schools in and great showing by the way uh you you always got to break out the second

019bleachers. >> Yeah, we're here for it. [cheering] That's where VC and a double dribble is called. So back to back turnovers [cheering] this and the Carlin definitely has to do something here. So we're we're still a little bit of a scoring drought for both teams. Still at 113. >> There's Landervery. Doesn't get the bounce that she was looking for. It was a good look though. >> You know, you can tell that she likes to get in under under the rim, get the layups. She's a very physical player. Great on offense, great on defense so far. >> Great take. Really good take. Yeah, Lander Verde definitely is looks like the clear [cheering] impact player for these Panthers. >> Unfortunately, it does. Oh my gosh. >> What a dish. >> Are you kidding me? >> Land Verie

020with the dish of the night so far. Are you kidding me? >> I tell you what, I'm glad this is the middle school tournament because you see that anywhere else, >> you're going to get hurt out there. >> I tell you what, she took a hard spill. She's fine. You know, a little bit in pain, but like handling it like a champion. That pass was on the money. >> That was amazing. >> I I Are you kidding me? >> If that ever if if that if that ever went in off of that that pass, uh we might have stopped the broadcast. >> That might have been play of the game of the night. >> Top night. You know what? We're going to >> Joe Camley cut the feed. >> Cut. [laughter] >> That was awesome.

021>> Let's see what Freeman's got in store. >> A little bit of a back. >> You know what, Justin? You can see the trust in Land of Verie. she's getting the responsibility of defending Freeman. So clearly that's that's a responsibility that doesn't come lightly trying to handle the prowess that is Ree Freeman. So Lander Verde definitely the uh the prime time player here for the Panthers. And let's see. Oh, good defense right there. Coming into the frame quickly was Julianiana Shavo. >> What is happening? I the the the two girls there, they they looked a little confused as to what they had to do. I mean, you had the ball in your hand, you give it right back to him. >> Love to see that. >> Yeah. And that Sandberger missed a couple earlier. Knocks

022that one down from threepoint range. And the Lions, I tell you what, it's early, but they are pulling away in this one. >> Well, I tell you what, the the the Jaguar, although a or the panther rather, I just got them confused. >> Yeah. Uh, cut from the same same species, same feline, right? The pan the Panther may be ferocious in the jungle, but they ain't king of it. >> Yeah. No, no. The Lions definitely have a say there. And uh the Lions really are are putting in some work in this one. Absolutely. And again, we're seeing repeat players from last year's championship, which I'm not entirely surprised. Uh but we're we're we're seeing the same impact as last year. And yeah, again, uh, if they're in eighth grade right now, you're and I'm Coach

023Riley Dunn, I'm I'm I'm pretty happy. We're we're we're very happy. >> Both sides of the court right now. Good steal right there, Angelina Ravisi. Now it's out front to Destiny Sandberg. A absorbs the bump. Doesn't get it to go. Got about four minutes left in this first half. >> Yeah, it does move quick that running time. I mean, it's it's real time. >> It is. We'll take it. >> You know what it does, too? It helps keep a good rhythm because you know that clock is moving. So, you want to you want to try to make every possession count as they always do, but it's a little bit different when it's running time. That's going to be a jump ball. And the arrow is for the Panthers. And they they could use it. >>

024They sure can. Let's see how they take advantage of this situation. >> Lone three-pointer made by Elise Cashes. Otherwise, it's been a lot of empty trips down the floor. And a lot of it is in large credit to the Lion defense, which you know, we witnessed some great defense the other night, last night rather, with the boys basketball team. put on a clinic >> in their big win over the Golden Tornadoes. >> It was a huge win and you know it wasn't for lack of uh Maldin uh you know playing uh that they played a heck of an aggressive defense and but the effort Crimson Tide I I got to tell you they just played better ball. >> Yeah. No, it was a uh it was a personnel issue and the Tide the Tide was

025well equipped in the personnel department. their starting five had some great players off the bench and it showed itself in a 6642 blowout of the Golden Tornadoes. So, this is our middle school girls basketball championship. It's the Ever Public Schools. It's the Panthers. It's the Lafayette Lions. And the Lions are really pouncing right now. Oh, we got a loose one. Nice job by the cheerleader. Give us some minutes, coach. Look at that. Great job getting involved. Great stop. It's a great stop. >> Let's see what Samberger's got to say here. Heads to the basket facing a triple team. Drops it off to number three. >> I tell you what, she she looked pretty good even even with three defenders in her face. Now you could tell that like you you could tell Sandberger and Freeman

026are like they are next level and again we'll talk about an adnauseium but if you're coach Dunn you are very pleased with the talent that is coming up through the ranks. So Lions basketball inbounding from the baseline turnaround hook no good rebound. Oh, we're going to have a foul on the rebound. So, Panthers will keep possession here as the foul was on the rebound. Now, Josh, that that ball looked like it was just about to go out. And I I love the fact that uh number three for the Lions. That's going to be uh Ala Patterson just grabbed it and put it up. Didn't even think about it. Split-second decision and you'll love to see it. >> He almost knocked it down, too. >> Wow. >> There's landie. >> That was a really nice take.

027Yeah, drove with the right, went up with the left, doesn't get it to go, but Landie is is really playing well. [cheering] A big rebound right there by number 13 >> Prrisca Privver, the defense. Oh, doesn't get it to go, but Patterson with the move. Madison gets the rebound, puts it back up, and it's Privver finding the basket. Prrisca Privver on the rebound put back. Lions >> for a young kid, she's got some height on her, too. She's towering over pretty much everybody else on the court right now. >> Strong drive by Landerie who will go to the line shooting two. There's a good look at Camila looking to get her first points of the evening, but not not by not by any measure of not trying or any of the defensive plays she's made.

028Had some really good drives to the basket that just haven't fallen. So, let's see if Landie can make it count at the line. 5 seconds remaining here. And you can't see it right now, but if you if you look on the left of the screen, uh you you might see a little glimmer of a red hoodie. And if there's an Everett public schools event, you are bound to see one person in particular with a camera and that is school committee member Robin Babcock. >> Yes. Yes. Robin is getting some good photos of Land of Verie at the line. And you said it, Justin. It is it is a consistent thing to see Robin Babcock at these events with with her photography kit. Always doing a great job supporting our students and our families. So, one

029half of action is in the books and it was all Lafayette in that one and it was led by Reese Freeman who took off with nine points and then was joined by Destiny Sandberger with the quick triple. Lia Patterson added two and Prrisa Privet added two. For the for the Panthers, I mean, they have the lone three-pointer made by Elise Casius. I guess if you're doing the whole glass half full hole thing, you're down 13, but it does feel like a lot more since you only have three points to show for it. Again, a lot of lot of great defense played by the Lions right there. But you got to you got to find a way to get something going offensively. >> Well, Josh, I tell you, the the Panthers, it's not that they look

030bad right now. It's just the the the LA, they're playing excellent ball out there. I mean, you you got some repeat big hitters from last year and uh Reese Freeman and sorry, I got to and Destiny Samber. You got the big hitters from last year that are back. But I mean it it it it if I'm the if I'm the Panthers, I'm a little worried about that going into this, you know, this next half. Well, I I'll tell you what, and I'll I'll leave this here until we come back from the break. The Panthers are going to desperately need a strong start to the second half. Otherwise, they're going to start to feel that that that momentum is just going to be living on the Lion side. But that is it here at halftime. It's

031the Lafayette Lions up by 13. We'll have more action coming back in the second half. So stay with us. That boy [music] in the I' been Holy [applause] Ghost. Let's go. Not even close. You're too sweet. All you do Halftime and we are ready to get the second half underway. Lafayette Lions. If if you're just joining us, the Lions have made their presence felt. They are up by 13 points, 16-3. Panthers will have the basketball to start things off here in this second half. And we're going to have a foul call immediately to start things off. That was a drive by Camila Landie. So, Landandavery gets the first. She draws the first foul. So, that's a start. Maybe they can get the Lions into some foul trouble. >> But right there on the inbounds, gives

032it right back. >> And here's your girl Freeman coming up. >> Don't look now. It's Reese Freeman. And wow, a rare miss by Freeman, but gets her own rebound. That's kept alive. Battle for the loose ball goes to the Panthers. see if they can get something going here. Out leading the pack is number 23. Oh, nice basket right there, Elise Cashes. All five points of the Panthers belong to Elise Cashes on a nice drive. >> And she had a great look at that. You know, that brought it all the way down the court. Just a quick little two points, but you know, that could start something that the Panthers desperately need right now. >> I'll tell you what, don't look now, Justin. But if they would ever get a stop and parlay that with another

033basket, they would cut this game to single digits. Here's the stop. Can we see another basket? Land Verdie loses it on some good defense by Sandberger. Leading the pack out front. Landie, she's playing her heart out out there, but unfortunately, you know, just can't seem to find the connection between the ball and the hoop. >> Yeah. No, I know it. Sometimes that's just the way it shakes out. >> Lions inbound. Freeman underneath. Working in some tight quarters. Doesn't get it to go good defense, but the rebound goes to number 19. That's Maria Claras. We're going to have a foul call. There's a look at the Lafayette cheerleaders in the background and that's going to be out of bounds. You can see it right there. Great camera work. >> I get I'm telling you the parl

034something happened during halftime because they're playing excellent defense right now. >> Oh, this is the start that they've wanted. >> but can you stop Reese Freeman? That's the question. >> That is the question. And now Reese Freeman joins the double figures club with 11 points. That's no good. Now, >> Landanda Verdie needs to take a breath. I think she's You could see it on her face. She's getting a little bit too into her emotions. You just got to focus up and get get back to playing your basic ball. >> And again, they a lot of responsibility is is on Landervery. She's she's really working hard defensively trying to keep up with the likes of Freeman and Sandberger. that rims out for Freeman and then Landie handles the point guard responsibility. So it it all starts

035and ends with Landie for the Panthers. >> Although you can't sleep on Cashes. She I mean got all five points. >> All five points belong to Elise Cashes. We got a substitution here for the Lions. Checking out of the game is number 18 Juliana Shaveo. And checking in looks like that's number 15 Jasmine Booba. So again, running time here in these these halves. When it gets down to 2 minutes in the second half, it'll work with the clock stoppage if if time and play permits. What a great pass by Freeman to 19 there. Freeman's complete. Freeman does it all. And 19 being Maria Clara Diaz, obviously. And then we had Bertha Flores with the steel going the other way for the Panthers number seven. There's a look at Bertha right in front of your camera

036right there. Speaking of cameras, there's uh Maria Helena Rangel. >> Yes, on camera there >> you see Maria down the far end of the baseline getting some of the action. And that is from the camera of our winged feathered friend Bird Merchant. And you know coming for the getting the bird's eyee view is Pedro Enrique Dilva. >> Yes. Yes. He does a great job. So that's our crew here tonight. Our three camera ops. Of course in the back we have Joe Camley, Anthony Leila and if you know the Vesselin Thorough that is Vessel and Thorough has been doing a great job uh taking some responsibility and directing or technical directing our our our ops and he's been doing a great job always. Vessel's terrific one of our students here. So we have uh we actually

037have four students. I'd be remissed if I didn't give some love to my photographer here tonight as well, Miguel Venturanis getting some shots. So, we have uh we have four students on our crew tonight. >> Miguel, Maria, Pedro, and Vest. >> All seniors. >> Oh, yes. Yes. No. Uh Pedro, Pedro. >> Pedro's back. We got one more year with Pedro. >> We love it. >> Not that we're rushing our seniors out the door, but Pedro, he's going to be all state next year. >> He loves it. Let's see what Freeman's got cooking over here. >> Shot no good. 18-5 is the score. >> Lander Verie going 100 miles an hour >> again though. She just can't seem to find the connection. And maybe that's due to Lafayette's ironclad defense. I mean, they've they've put up

038the stone wall. >> There it is. >> Gosh, that'll be number 12, Destiny Sandberger. >> Yeah. And it's her destiny to find the bottom of the hoop. Sandberger always always knows how the net swishes when it goes down. That was big time. >> That was a beautiful look. >> That was a long two. Had a foot in the line, but goes in the books either way. Sanber the second leading scorer here for the Lions with five points. Good drive by Cashes. Little long on the shot. Rebound goes to Patterson. That's a good steal. Let's see what Elena Verie's got. She's got some open room. Slowly closing. Oh, just misses it again. She not getting lucky tonight. >> I know cuz she's her her misses are like right there. I know a miss is a miss,

039but there is such thing as a good miss. Like it shows you that you're on target. That was a good shot. >> Just can't buy a bucket. You know, we're going to have a jump ball and the arrow is favoring the Lions as as they need any anymore. And we got some substitutions now for the Lions. Also, uh the Panthers as well. Checking into the game for the Panthers. That's number 19. And that is Mariana Flores. We've said her name before. >> Oh, quick entry pass to Freeman. No good. But Booba has the rebound. >> Unbelievable. >> How about the turnaround touch by Jasmine Boozeba? You kidding me? >> She does a great job. Are you kidding right now? the rebound, the touch, that thing didn't even graze rim. >> nothing but net there. >>

040And if you if you take a look at the way that the Panthers are set up, it's not like that their their offense isn't trying here. Again, I really think that the the Lions defense, they're really just taking away this game. And we said the same thing last night with the Everett uh Crimson Tide versus the Malden Golden Tornadoes. Everett's defense was impregnable. I'm telling you what, that defense was bringing it all night. You could not get past half court and if you did, you were facing a multitude of hands in those passing lanes coming up with steals. That was a great scene last night. We had the spotlight going. It was a blackout themed evening. Everyone uh players, fans dressed in all black, including ourselves. >> I I know you liked those unis, too.

041>> I loved it. Oh, I loved it. I love getting early. You kidding me? You gave me that red trim on the side with the all black. A little cursive font. I think we changed over all our graphics now to that font. >> Oh, yeah. >> You know what? >> Going to have to tell the franva. >> Oh, yeah. Tell the franva. you know, get a get a get a still grab for your thumbnail, right? >> Oh, yeah. >> Well, hey, Cashes again on the board. >> Cashes with all six points for the Panthers. Goes one for two at the line there. Has a three and another two. And another one. Oh, don't look now. Cashes says, "Hey, jump on my back. I got you." Wow. Cashes has eight points. That's right. >> Eight points.

042Eight of eight. >> Can we change guest to Cashes? We uh >> we have a ladder in the back. >> Yeah. >> I don't know if uh you know Steve will let us do that, though. >> Do we have to tell him? >> We might not have to. Oh, we got some whistles here. [cheering] Looks like a violation on the Lions. So, it's going to stay with the Panthers. Land Verdie coming back in for the Panthers. >> Why not? Quick break. They got a little bit of momentum now with that that back-to- back uh string of points by Cashes, >> I would say. So, and great defense there. Booba off the glass. Got her own rebound, too. Oh, and a steal by who else? >> Cashes leading the break. Good look at Cashes right there.

043Oh, that was a nice take. Just >> narrow miss. Narrow miss. >> I tell the the Panthers, they're they're doing great right now. They've only they've kept the Lions to just a few scores in this half. Uh, however, you got to pick up the pace offensively as well. I mean, defenses can win games, but not when you're this far behind. >> Yeah, it's it's landie doesn't get it to go. We'll try it again. Comes up. That's going to be a a traveling violation. Coach Carol of the Panthers doesn't agree with the call. >> Good effort. [cheering] >> Oh, that's going to be a double dribble. >> Sure is. going to be Panther ball. >> Yeah, we got Panther basketball here. 725 and counting left in this second half. You can see uh they still have

044the one up there, but this is the second half of action and it will be the final half unless if something drastically changes and we go to overtime. I've seen it before in these games, but not not with this kind of margin. Usually, it's a a game that's already featured some down to the wire moments. But hey, it's why you play until the final whistle, the final buzzer. >> But the Panthers aren't going to have to kind of really get a steady stream of of something going offensively. I mean, that >> Yeah, absolutely. And let's see with Lena Birdie with this steal. Let's see if she can take anything. >> Bang. Oh, that was a good look. >> Again, she's she's got great looks on the hoop. just can't seem to connect. >> I know

045it. >> Great steal. >> Come on, Land of Verdie. You got this. >> You got it. >> Oh, nice. Nice. >> Great job by Camila Land of Vvery. >> Let's see if she can get that steamrolling. You know that I I find that once you get that first ball in the hoop, you're you're going to gain some more confidence. You know, you feel a little bad, but hopefully we get to see some more action from her coming up. >> Well, I tell you what, the difference right now is the Panther defense. And you see the wide openen layup attempt by Benjamin. That's no good. But the put back is why not. Coley Benjamin says, "I want to add to my stat sheet. I'm going to miss my own shot to get the rebound. I'm going

046to put the basket right in." And just like that, a quick little four nothing run by the Panthers has all of a sudden put some trepidation in the building. And I tell you what, that's a great timeout call. You know, once you start getting into a rhythm, you want to stop that. You want to take a pause and if you're the Panthers, you want to get a little celebration going. You know, you're on a roll. You want to keep that going. >> Absolutely. Yeah, Coach Murray, good timeout call by the Lions. But I agree with you, Justin. That's a that's a good place to be in that Panther huddle right now. You get something to feel good about. Hey, this is a 10-point game, right? Easily doable. >> And I tell you what else they

047do to feature in the second half. They might even doing this in the first half. They do not run the clock during a timeout. So, we are stopped at 6 minutes and 4 seconds left in the second half. A 10-point game. And what has seemed like I it it has seemed like Lafayette's been up by 30, but it was really a matter of just their defense kind of controlling the Panthers. Now all of a sudden, a little bit of life has shown up and risen with the Panthers. And this is why we have a kind of we we we have a game on our hands. We got a game brewing. >> I'm getting a little excited. And look at this little treat we received from our uh assistant athletic director, Steven Gallagher, providing us with

048some rosters for our next game >> between the Parland Panthers and the Lafayette Lions. And I'm watching the Lafayette warm up uh over over off camera here. And uh there are some big boys. >> Oh yeah. >> That are going to be taking the court in the uh the finale here for our middle school championship. So, a big thank you to Steve and of course our athletic director Tammy Turner for all that they do and they do such a great job. They're fantastic. Great group of people. Anything we need as far as our productions go. There's Lander Birdie. >> Oh, you said it Justin. Once you get one, you start cooking. Lander Birdie's got this thing down in singles. >> She's got to She's got to get it calibrated. She She had to get calibrated.

049It took her a little bit, but again that was because the lines defense was it felt impregnable. But she came in, she b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b busted through the wall, and now she's on a roll. She had the right right two, but Loctite didn't use the one that fast and she got the right one. It's open now. >> Tell you what, though, I'm fired up. We got an eight-point game. >> This is great. >> You know what? we were going into the half and I was uh that I was like what what's going on here? The the the Panthers

050got to do something to get the ball rolling. And I tell you, it's been I got to say at least like six points, six unanswered points. >> I tell you what's more is that you're not even seeing like the Panther defense has really ratcheted up a notch. I'm not even seeing Lafayette getting shots off. I mean, it's been Panther Steel after Panther steel. And look at it again. Unbelievable. Big rebound right there controlled by Bertha Flores. >> The Panthers are heating up. They're on a 6-0 run. Is there more? >> And that was a good look from Reese Freeman. >> Yes. >> Uh trying to get that steal. Unfortunately couldn't. And maybe they put a little Crisco on the ball, but uh unfortunately that goes out of bounds for her. It would have been a

051great steal for them. >> No doubt. Yeah. So it stays with the Panthers. They're still knocking on the door here. 4 and 1/2 minutes now. A quick souvenir in the crowd [cheering] >> going way back to Land of Vertie. >> Nice job tracking that down. >> Oh yeah, >> great pick. >> Yeah, great way. That was a great screen. Great pick set by Flores. >> That goes out of bounds. Is it touch by? No. Okay. Off of diver. I know someone got a piece of it. So, Lion basketball. Lions have been on quite the scoring dr. >> That's Yeah. >> But again, it goes both ways, right? You know, the Lions have it's been a while since the Lions have scored and maybe, you know, their confidence is shaken a little bit, but all you

052need is that one basket. Just that one basket to get you back into your rhythm. You look at it right now. I mean, this was a 16-3 game at the half, right? So, I mean, the the Panthers have outscored them 11 to6 in the second half. So, a tale of two halves. Oh, it just rimed out. Oh, man. Everything but the poop. I We seen we've seen a lid in that basket at times for the Panthers. >> Going to need a regulation check on that basket. >> Let's get the get the ruler out. Get the bubble. Is it in the middle? >> I think we got one upstairs. Joe, if George is next to you, can you have him get the rule? Oh, no. George isn't. I see George on camera. >> George Homeman. >>

053Yeah. Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. He's doing the coach's cam. >> Homeman's on camera. That's silly of me. >> When when actions on Coleman center camera doing it for years. >> Ah, George Hullman. Legend. Legend in the community. [cheering] see if the Lions can get some points back on the board. >> Well, that's one way to do it. Have have your top player head to the basket in the form of Reese Freeman, who's going to go to the line shooting, too. And Freeman is four for four at the line here this evening. >> And if you're the Parland Panthers right now, you can't be you can't afford to take uh penalties like this. uh especially with their top their their top scorer, excuse me. Uh that you you're you're on a roll right now. You need

054to keep that going. I mean, you there's 2 minutes 9 seconds left. We you you got to get something going. Yeah, >> you do. You need something. And that's a big miss right there. Freeman, who still has 11 points, got there very quickly. Again, the scoring is kind of tapered off for the Lions here in the second half. And that's a violation. That basket's going to be waved off. Lane violation. You can't enter the painted area before that ball hits the rim. >> So, that basket will not count. >> Not to the fault of Freeman, but unfortunately, one of her teammates headed to the paint early and uh unfortunately cost a point. See if that comes back to haunt them. I like it. Sanber was trying to inbound me. So I'm a little confused here.

055If that was a lane violation, that should be Panther basketball. But uh >> All right, there's there's Freeman. >> Freeman big hoop right there. 13 points for Re. >> Bring it back up to the double digit lead. >> And right now time is not on the Panthers side. >> No. And it's unfortunate. They they've played a really good second half, Josh. >> There's a great run. Great run. There's a good look at Coach Murray going over some instructions for her team who, barring anything catastrophic, is in control here. You said it, Justin. Great job by coach Carol and her Panthers as they battled in the second half. They played a much better second half. They still have outscored the Lions in the second half. got it back. Got it down to within eight. Had us

056on the edge of our seat. But uh unfortunately when you dig that kind of a hole, you utilize a lot of energy trying to get out of it. And then while it looked a little bleak for the Lions in that second half, all they really need to do is get a a couple a couple points to go down and they did that with with Freeman bailing them out. And who else? Why not? So >> good run though. >> But again, there's still some more play time. There's still some more game to be played here if they uh if the Panthers can get back on it uh and keep the ball away from the Lions, set up picks just like that. Oh, they they might be in for something here again. 10 10 points hard to

057get in a minute and a half. >> Yeah. Not entirely, you know, impossible. >> Right. Right. But if you're a if you're an analytics person, it it's you probably are on the 1% side right now. But you're on the wrong side of 50. >> Listen, it was a great movie based on a true story. I believe it goes by Dumb and Dumber. So you're saying there's a chance Samsonite. Her name's Samsonite. It's fine. True story. Landie making her first free throw. And >> wait a minute. Hold on. So you're saying there's a chance? >> So you're saying there's a chance TO VERATE. THIS IS HOW YOU DO WITH A STEEL. OH, >> great steel cashes. That's exactly who you want to get that to though. >> I wanted that. >> And they're playing a one

058heck of a game. Unfortunately, if you look down the court, you had some wide open people like [cheering] >> that right there. And that's really all what you do. The the risk you take with having all of your players on the opposite end of the court is you you're going to have some Lafayette lines wide open down court for Reese Freeman to juke some people out and toss it over to make easy points. >> Yeah, that was a great pass by Freeman. While she won't get credit with the assist on the miss, Juliana Shaveo got the rebound and the put back. Yeah. There's Destiny Sandberger. There she is. Oh, looking for another championship for these Lions as they know what the winner circle looks like. Land of Verdie. Great steal. Great takeaway. Let's see if

059she can uh finish it. It's a good I I'd say it's a good call. >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. Landerie being aggressive heading to the basket in between traffic. Yeah, you're going to get that call. That's a good good foul. It's a It's a good foul for the Lafayette, but that's a good play by by Landerie to get to the line. Oh, and that that's a look right there on your camera just in that picture right there. That was our boys basketball team, >> giving them some love for the show that they put on last night. >> And there they are right there. >> I really love the fact, and this is why I love Everett sports. Uh, you know, all the coaches make sure one, first, student first. I said it last night, I'll say

060it again. You're a student first, you're an athlete second, and two, you come up and you show support for all of the other teams. And it's just it it it's such a great community. >> That's right. No, you see it and it's you you see it through and through. Coach Boyce, Coach Dunn, Coach D Lorettto, Coach Landerie, Coach Presi, Coach Shaveo, the list goes on and on. >> And it's a tradition that's gone back since as as far as I can remember. >> That's right. Coach Love, Malik Love, like and and again, the name the list goes on and on. You said it. It's the community. It's the feel. Everyone supports one another and they're all in the house tonight and you just you love to see those types of things, that support in your

061community. And that's what makes Everett such a special place. And that's why our our school system is a special place. We we really have some great people that work in and out and around these buildings that really care for one another. And that's why you you're really you're in this city. You want to be a part of a special team. Be a part of the Ever Public School System. It's where it's at. We got a traveling violation. >> Dropped her glasses, too. >> Yeah. >> Traveled a bit too far, >> I guess. So, so we're going to look for that uh that eight-point shot right now. >> That's doable, right? >> Yeah, sure. >> Yeah. >> MTV Rocking Jock used to do it in the early '9s. They used to raise the basket to like

06225 ft. If you made it, it was like 10 points. It was really cool. Paulie Shaw was always in that game. But I think it's safe to say that the Lafayette Lions are going to take it. And I believe that's two years in a row, is it not? >> That is absolutely correct, Justin and Luther. Two years in a row that the Lions are going to be raising hard where hopefully they they've done their bicep curls cuz they're going to be raising another trophy. And a great performance, of course, Reese Freeman leading the way. Of course, the game's high scorer with 13 points, Destiny Sandberger with five, Patterson added two, Shavo with two, Boozeba with two, Privet with two, and then just a number of great plays overall. Head coach Joanna Murray doing a great

063job leading her girls to yet another championship. And what a sight to behold. >> And and Josh, we we again have to give credit to the Parland Panthers there in the second half. It looked like it was over. And I tell you, they played their hearts out. Great defense. Offensively, they outscored the Lions. Unfortunately, a little bit too little too late, but you played a great game and quite frankly, great job. Yeah. No, it was it was a really great finish. You saw that little burst by the Panthers that made this thing real interesting. The crowd started getting into it. It was uh it was a really it was a great sight to see and we were all for it. It just too little too late. And again, moreover than not, it was just the

064Lafayette Lions just a little too much to handle down the stretch. But what a great championship game we had and what is just the first of a double header here. What a what a night we have in store of us. But yes, a big congratulations to the Lafayette Lions. You can see on your screen right there, there's Coach Murray and her team holding up the trophy, adding to the trophy case. They might have to make some more room. They're going to have to talk to Rob Moreshi and Dennis going to start carving out some drywall and putting some more shelves up. We need some more space over there at the Lafayette. >> Uh but for now, >> Lafayette Lions, congratulations. We're going to see we're going to run this back for the Lafayette Lions and

065the Harland Panthers part two for the boys basketball middle school championship. And I'm excited about it. But for now, we're just going to we're just going to watch them. We're just going to watch them right there. Moving pitchers will tell the story. We'll be around. We're going to get some honey, get a little tea, get the vocals back. Stay tuned. Game two boys middle school championship is around the corner. All Hallelujah. Hey, hello. Hallelujah. I thought you were I thought you Oh my god. I love you. Yo, I'm going to go right now. party. [music] [music] >> [music] >> Round two. This is the middle school boys basketball championship after watching a great girls game won by the Lions of the Lafayette school running it back for the for another consecutive season. We have the boys taking their turns at it. Pilot Panthers in blue, Lafayette Lions in black. Lions will roar first. And Josh,

067I am excited for this one. And let's see if the Parland Panthers can avenge the girls and make and get the W here. I I guarantee you we're in for an exciting match tonight. Yes. Yes. And you and I were talking off camera before this all started. We saw some of our guys that we recognized from last year. >> Carlos Flores being one of them. >> Yes. Oh, yeah. No, he's big time. Carlos Flores is is a big time player. I'm looking forward to seeing him. I I That's right. I remember last year he was only a seventh grader and he put on a >> show. He did. He did. He had great shoes last year as well. I remember. >> He did. >> I remember. >> Let's see how the Oh my gosh. That's

068going to be 25. >> Don Yen from three knocks it down. >> Unbelievable. And here's our guy. Here's our guy Carlos Flores. He was a key playmaker for the Parland Panthers last year. Let's see what he can do now. Unfortunately missed that one, but able to get his own rebound. >> Wow, look at the Look at that. And there he is right on Q. Caros Flores. >> Telling you, Flores can fill it up. I know Coach Boyce is very excited what he sees from Flores and some of these other youngsters. And he comes up with the steal. A great steal there. Nice little pass play. Gets another two points on the board. And already Josh, the Panthers looking great. Buckle up, Justin. This one's going to be fun. It's going to be fast. >> Don

069Yen hit one already from the corner. HE BURIES ANOTHER ONE. >> UNBELIEVABLE. >> OH, Don New Y. >> That's his spot. That's his sweet spot. You can tell they're playing around him. A Flores being like, I could do that, too. Unfortunately, didn't go his way. >> We know he can. >> We We know he'll get it back into it. [cheering] >> Quick drop off pass by Zel Pñena. Gets stolen. >> Flores now. Faces some defense by Mikey Walsh. I want to talk about Patrick Walsh. Number 10 for the Lafayette Lions. Take a look at him. He's about half the size of everybody else out there, but he's a starter. You know, that means I'm I'm looking forward to see what this kid can do. Yeah, I know. I'm I'm I'm here for it. Wearing two

070different types of shoes from what I can see. I'm a little excited. Well, I'm got Mike Walsh over to Patrick. Patrick's going to try IT FROM TOP DOWN. OH. >> OH MY. [screaming] IT didn't count. They said he stepped UP, BUT THAT WAS NBA RANGE. That was a bomb. >> Are you kidding me, Josh? >> I guess we know why he's a starter. >> I'm going to go on a limb and say that the Walshes are brothers. I I I I'll try to get confirmation on that, but the if they are, the connection's real. >> Oh, no. Wait for that. >> Got me out of my seat. The basket didn't count. Oh, and that one does count. That's got to be Michael Walsh. >> Michael Walsh from downtown. >> Watch out, >> Josh. We're in

071for ONE TONIGHT. >> WATCH OUT. >> We are in for one tonight. We're already yelling. >> Oh, this is great. Yes, definitely giving the audio team a run back there. They got the compressor dialed in. Definitely taking a lot off my high cut. That's fine. That's fine. Drop the gain. Whatever it takes. Well, I tell you, Joe's a low cut guy. He loves the low cut. >> He loves the low cut. If he, you know, if I know him, he probably busted out the little Avantis mini for this one, and he's uh he's dabbling right now. >> But man, what a start. Are you kidding me? Oh my god, this is great. >> There's been more threes than two-pointers. >> No, this is this is where it's at right now. Don Deian's got six points.

072Okay, Michael Wallace has got the other three. >> And then everything else, Carlos Flores. >> Carlos Flores. That's easy. Quick four for Flores. >> But yeah, this is a very very impressive action right now. >> And we're only three and a half minutes in. >> That's fine. That's fine. >> I'm looking forward to that. >> Oh, no. This is great. >> I I want to see every minute. >> Yep. Yeah. I like this a lot. I like this a lot. But again, the fact that Patrick Walsh was able to nail that unbelievable. >> Again, if you take a look, he's take take a look at him on the court. He's >> not the tallest guy on the court. >> No, right. >> But apparently, he can vom it in there. >> He's a baller. You

073can see it. And uh Oh, here he goes. Here he goes. >> OH, YOU KNOW HE CAN THOUGH, RIGHT? In and out. >> Yesesh. You better get Hey, hand up. You better defend that. >> You better get some coverage on basketball. >> Yes. >> So, Panther basketball. >> So, last year in this game, it was Parland vers Cavarian. >> Yes, it was. Yes, it was. And I believe Parl came away with that one. >> They did. They did, but not before. A very impressive performance. It was uh with Jacob Sanka down low. >> Yeah, I remember that for Caviran. He was he was something else, but he couldn't withstand the piling Panther barrage. They were too much. Oh, what a dish. What a dish. >> That's going to be your guy, Don Yuen again. >>

074What a dish by Michael Walsh. And then Walsh with the defense, but he's going to get the foul on Flores. And right now, you know, Lafayette in control with their three threes. Uh let's see what Flores can do here. But there's a good look at him. [cheering] >> I think Joe's putting the filters on right now. Look at him. >> Oh yeah. We got our our uh video engineer Joe Camley uh is just within the steps of us right now. He's tweaking away. >> Oh, good right there. But it still stays with the Lions. Nice take number 23 Estabban Calderon. >> And he great defense there. Uh unfortunately, you know, the Lafayette Lions, they're they're coming away with it right now. Let's see what Flores can do. Oh, nice dish. What a pass. That was

075over to Nathan Alcie. Nathan Alie, one of the captains, finishes it and not before a beautiful pass came from Oscar Lazo Diaz. >> That's a good look. The three-pointers are falling and they're coming from every part of the Lafayette roster. That was number 18, >> Rosenberg Richardson. >> Almost a big steal. >> So, three different Lions, Justin, have made threes. And >> you can tell they that's they've been practicing. >> We're not even at the halfway point of the first half. >> I You could even say that four different Lions made it. No, I'm counting it for the little guy. >> You know what? And he's going to make one because he made one that something that's was NBA range that stepped out of bounds so it didn't count. And then the one he missed

076from the corner was halfway down. >> Almost got a steal there as well. >> He's actually very impressive, but not not to be outdone was a three-pointer by Oscar Lazo Diaz coming off a beautiful assist the possession before. Knocks that down from downtown. >> [cheering] >> Fortunately, he just stopped dribbling, but you at least you had someone to hand it to there. >> Almost a beautiful play there. >> Yeah, he was looking for the cutting Zel Pñena. Good look. It's going to stay with the Lions as it was last touched by a Panther. We got a substitution in for the Panthers. That looks like number eight involved there. Looks like maybe 18. K. Dwang. [screaming] Michael Walsh just working around the perimeter. He's playing He's playing good ball. He's got good hands. >> Yeah, he's

077smooth. Oh, what a move. >> OH, >> Zel Pena. >> Zel Pñena >> coming out with the jukes. >> Oh, man. That was nice. Woo. >> That was that was beautiful. >> And again, it feels really good >> to root for both teams. You know, normally when we're announcing, we I don't know if you know this, but I'm a little biased. I always like watching Everett win. >> Yeah. You had no love for them all. [laughter] >> We did love the kid McMahon though. He was >> Oh, yeah. He was He was killing it. But it feels really good to root for both teams, you know, both hometown. >> No, you can't. You said it earlier. You said it in the girls broadcast. Everyone wins here. >> Wow. Flores even make that one. >> Flores

078with your acrobatic layup of the night. There it is. This is a 16-2 game right now. Lions up by four. Pñena drives again. Pñena hard to the basket. No good. Rebound. It's going to be It's going to be out of bounds. It's going to be Panther basketball. I know MIGUEL FURRO LOVES THE action right now. >> He sure does. >> He's all fired up. >> Our photographer this evening >> and he does a great job. Again, if you if you if you subscribe or follow in this case to the EHS boys soccer team Instagram, he pretty much runs that. >> Oh, yeah. I know. He he he is the EHS boys soccer Instagram. >> You know, Coach Lander, he's going to be missing him next year. >> For sure. >> For with the the miss.

079Kenya again. >> That was a great take. >> He's got great looks. >> He met better defense by number two. >> It was a battle of number TW's. >> Oh, sorry. Pay is number 11. Number two, Nathan Alie. >> Hey, one and one makes two. >> It does. That's what I was thinking. >> There you go. >> I was thinking that. >> I know you're a big man guy. Thank you. >> Thank you. Oh, nice dish. >> Oh my god. Unfortunately, >> you got to watch out for the knees. They'll come out of nowhere. >> You know what happened there, Justin? You could see it. So, it was a beautiful pass. Elsie, unfortunately, right as soon as he caught it, he he had his eyes kind of looking up at the basket and he just

080needed that extra step to kind of focus and then get it down. But, it was a good good pass. One that Elsie gets again. He'll be he'll be taking it high above the rafters. [cheering] Elsie's out front. There's the take right there by Elsie. No good. Flores on the rebound though. He's going to put it up and he's going to make another one. Like we said, we saw him last year. We thought he was phenomenal and he's coming back in and he is proving us correct. >> He's got eight points all all from from two-point range and you know he's going to heat up from downtown. You know he is cuz he put on a clinic from three-point range. >> He sure did >> a year ago. I tell you what, you give him too

081much space, he'll pull it right now. >> Backs the offense off looking for some more movement. Lazo Diaz has already made one from downtown. That's no good. >> I tell you what, both sides of the court right now are looking pretty good and we're playing a really clean game. That is a rare penalty there. >> Yeah. No, absolutely. >> Kelsey Flores back to Flores. just taking it all in. >> Oh, I love the idea. The drop off pass. He had Elsie on the baseline open, but >> yeah, and that's Hector Ramos >> number one. >> Yeah. No, I I >> I I do like that idea, though. >> I love that. >> Oh, wow. They're calling a traveling violation. >> Yeah. Now, if you're Michael Walsh, you don't like that call. >> Yeah, that's a

082tough one. >> It might have it might feel cheated on that, but I tell you what, all's fair. >> You know what, though? He got right back up. He was He was all business getting down the other end. He knows there's a lot of game left. >> You don't want to waste too much time. You don't want to be giving the refs a hard time. You're better off just getting back defensively. >> That's right. >> Good job by Walsh getting back. And that was Nathan Alcie who's now at the line. >> Yeah, Alie, I'm telling you right now. So, he's got two points, but I'm seeing I'm seeing an impactful presence from Alie. We've seen him show up a couple times in the defensive end. And I'm I'm I the there's a a long line

083of Elsie's that have that have come through the city and uh there's been some good basketball players from that family and I'm I'm going to assume Nathan Elie is is a part of that. Well, the way he just handled that free throw, I I I tend to agree with you. >> I can tell from his size, it's a it's a it's a it's a tall family. They they they the LC family runs big. >> So, Nathan, that one rims out one one for two. He's got three points. Walsh with a great take. Almost gets it to go. >> He's a big kid, too. >> He is a big kid, >> I know, but he moves the ball really well. You can see him calling out plays. clearly a leader on this team. And right now,

084you know, they're they're only leading by one. And and I tell you what's more with Walsh. He's also a terrific quarterback, is he? >> Yeah, he's a big- time quarterback. People are very excited about uh the prospects of Michael Walsh. So, and you could see that translate onto the court. You spoke about his leadership and how he runs the offense. Well, quarterback, point guard often goes hand in hand. But you also said it, Justin, he's a goodsized kid. >> He's not some skinny kid. He's well put together. He's got height to him. Like he's a he's a good size kid. He's going to try it from downtown. >> Oh, that looked good. >> Yeah, that was a good look. >> Flores with the rebound. His eyes are up. He's got Elsie running out front. He's

085looking for him. >> Walsh getting it over. Zel Pñena. [cheering] Walsh and Pñena have a really strong connection. This is a three-point game right now. Lions up by three. >> And not a dull moment of it either. This is very exciting. That's no good. Strong defense by Don Nu Yen right there to alter that shot. Don Yian thinks about the three. He's made two this evening. Goes with the running floater instead. Doesn't go. We're going to have a jump ball. His bodies hit the floor and that arrow is going to be Lions basketball. I tell I want to see more from Dawn. I want to see. Now, here's a guy who comes up. He goes to the three-point line and he just cuffs him in there. He just cuffs him in there. And I want

086to see more from this guy for a second there. I think we just joined by Chris Collinssworth. That was excellent. Excellent stuff. Justin Han doing his best. Best Chris Collins always does a great job. Yeah, Don knocked down the first two threes from the corner. >> I really want to see more. I want to see more from this kid. Although, you know, I like the Pena Walsh connection. We squash a little new unit in there. >> I tell you what, and and that's what makes this Lafayette team special. There's a lot of guys that can fill it up. Yeah. >> I mean, there's definitely no shortage of uh talent there on the Lion side, nor is it on the pile side, but the Lions really share the scoring. It's very balanced. Don's going to get

087another look from the quarter three. What did I tell you, Josh? That's exactly what I wanted to see. Don New Yen with his third three. >> This kid is an animal. I think he's only missed one so far. >> Well, he's got nine points and they're all by way of the three. He's not even interested in twoots. He's like, I don't I don't do all that. I shoot threes. They work. >> There you go. >> And there's the second three by Lazo Diaz. >> Wow, >> Josh, we're in for one tonight. I'm telling you. >> Walsh now with the strong take. >> That doesn't go. Battle for the rebound. Another jump ball. This time it's going to the Panthers. >> You see Christian Vasquez on the on the side here. He's he's watching this game

088intently looking for coach trying to fill him in. >> And we saw the uh the performance last night put on by Christian Vasquez. 28 points. He had 17 at halftime. It was very impressive to watch and of course he was joined by others as well. But Vasquez really put on a brilliant display offensively for the Tide. >> He sure did. >> It was great. >> He's an impressive young man. >> Yeah. No, I I've gotten the pleasure to know Christian. Comes from a great family and uh he he all all that is shown through his character and his leadership. Really good young man. This I think we got a lion on the prowl. >> We got a lion on the prow. >> We got a lion approaching the area. >> Just like that. There he

089is getting on the court. >> The Lion's all fired up. He's looking for some action. >> Look at this. >> The Lion is looking for some action. [laughter] >> Tell you what, Lafayette brings it with the Lion. I I don't see a Panther on the other side. >> I saw a Panther last year. >> I You know, where's the Panther? >> Maybe they have a live one and it's running somewhere underneath the bleaches. We don't know. >> Is the Panther loose? >> I don't know. Did you let him out? >> The Panthers loose. The Panther is loose. The Lion is somewhat tamed for now. The Panthers all fired up somewhere. >> I need to contact animal control. He's >> roaming on Ferry Street right [laughter] now. >> Lzo Diaz for three. >> You know, he

090he seemed didn't have the right handle on that one. I I'd give him another shot at that. That was a good look. >> That was a good look. And And he can fill it up. He's got a couple threes already. Oh, >> nice pass. FLORES LOVES THAT VIEW. YES, HE DOES. >> And the boys, the EHS varsity team was standing right behind him going wild. >> Yeah. No, I love it. The uh for both sides cuz they know everyone's a winner here. >> They're all for it. The rare miss from Dawn there and Flores to bring the Parland up >> in their first lead of the half I believe. >> And uh I'm not a math guy, but Flores has 13 points. And yes, that is their the they are leading they had let's see

091did they >> I think they had a slight lead in the beginning. I think I misspoke. >> No, but it was it was very early. You really did. It's if if you're tracking this percentage-wise, it's it's been Lafayette the whole way basically, but Panthers now taking it back. Oh, just Oh, what a game we have here. This is terrific. Oh, the step back. OH, THE STEP BACK FREE FROM MICHAEL WALSH. Michael Walsh. You can see him calculating these plays that he's doing. You can see him lead this offense and then to just put it in your face, take a step back, pop it in. What an animal. >> Yeah. No, it's great. It's great. >> So now now the Lafayette with the lead back. [cheering] Strong take by number one, but it doesn't fall. That

092was Javian Abrau recovered by John Nion. And I think he I think we're going to see it again. I think we're going to see him come out. >> I want it. >> Oh, but Patrick Walsh, let's see what he's got going today. Flores says not today. >> Yeah, >> you're not passing any balls. >> Wow. >> He did that with some hoops. >> I know. I know. It man. This is This is the talent on display from these two schools. Wow. Kind of makes me wonder. How do we feel? >> Yeah. Kind of makes me wonder what all the other teams look like. [cheering] >> Seriously though, >> and all you need is just a little bit from the other teams. You got to both of them right here. It's like, wow. >> How do

093you how do you decide who makes the 15? Like, this is wow. >> Insane. >> Loaded. [cheering] I know when we get a chance to catch up with coach Boyce, I'm really going to be interested in uh what he thinks about >> and what he thinks of both sides of this court right now. >> This is ter >> between Flores, Walsh, Nu, and the other Walsh. >> I know it. >> Seriously. And I'm going to have to check my stats at the half because I've kind of lost my mind here a little bit. The adrenaline's flowing. >> Yeah, absolutely. And speaking of a half, we're there already with a onepoint difference. The Lafayette Lions up by a singular point. Oh, Flores did his best to get those points. He screded up those points. Got them

094their first lead in the entire half. Well, since the beginning of the half. I'm not going to make that mistake again. Josh, what a game. Give us give us a rundown of your thoughts on the half. >> Yeah, well, my thoughts, it's it's really simple. So, the Lions do it in just a multitude of ways. They've had a bevy of three-point shooters showing up around the perimeter. Good ball movement parlayed by good defense has really shown. Early on, Lafayette looked like they hit first and they were hitting a few times and it looked like, oh man, this one could get this one could get away from Pin. But hold on just a moment. There's a bad man wearing a Panthers jersey. He goes by the name of Kos Flores. We've seen him before. We're witnessing

095him again. His greatness is on full display. He's joined by Nathan Elie, Oscar Lazo Diaz, and the Panthers have put it together and we have ourselves a heavyweight bout. So, don't go anywhere. It's halftime. You're not going to want to miss how this one finishes. We have another half left. Who knows, maybe this goes to overtime. Stay with us, everybody. [music] >> [music] >> She's going to help me. really like it. You Hey. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Heat. Congratulations. I got Hey. And we are moments away from beginning the second half in what was a wild first half. Lafayette Lions on top by one point. 2423. Josh Delgazo Justin Han. This has been exciting from the opening jump. Justin, we have a wild second half in slow. What do you expect to see? >> Josh, let

096me tell you something. We're almost seeing the exact sign, the exact same offensive style that we saw in the girls game. the Parland Panthers, you know, they're really centered around like one or two key players and the Lafayette Lions, they're playing the Bills offense. Like I said, everybody eats. Everybody's getting a piece of the ball. Everyone's getting a piece of the action and I couldn't be more excited to see what happens next. The Parland Panthers only down by one and they're doing a great job. Let's see what they do. Dick >> collection, they're up by two. >> Hold on. And Hector Ramos says, "Justin, I don't have time for you to finish that sentence. I'm going to knock down this three and put us back up." >> And it it it's been exciting every which

097way around the court. I'm really excited to see where this goes and to see who comes out on top. >> Wow. So Walsh's three is a little long. Panthers have it. So our leading scorer, the game's leading scorer is Cowos Suarez with 14 points. Leading the way for the Lafayette Lions, Darn Yen has nine while Michael Walsh has eight. Oscar Lazo Diaz has six for the Panthers. Nathan Elsie has three. And now Ramos is out of three. >> It's been It's been a It's been a tight game the entire way, Josh. >> Wild. I mean, just wire towire action thus far. pain shot doesn't go. Flores, you know what I love about him? He doesn't just score. He hits the glass really well. Very good rebounder here. >> Oh, if he keeps doing stuff like

098that. Here's Flores. >> I mean, he's a bad man. >> What's better than that? >> I'm telling you, >> again, he's the games leading scorer for a reason. >> This kid is special. He's got 17 points. That is now his second three-pointer. You knew it was scary for anyone. >> It's a bad hit from uh Mr. Walsh there, but uh he's back up. >> Yeah, he's he's fine. >> He takes those hits in football. He's used to it. >> He handled that like like like a grown man would handle it. >> And uh he's fine. He's ready to go right now. Panthers up by five. Their biggest lead of the evening. Zel Pñena tries to change that. That goes out of bounds. Good save, but it ends up in the in the hands of a

099Panther. Good hustle by number 23. [cheering] But before I have time, it's Nathan putting it in the other way. [cheering] >> And then Elie says, >> "It's not happening here." >> But I tell you what, Alie was about to do a little taunt. Flores, the leader that of the team that he is, said, "Hey, come on, man. We're all We're all playing in the game. Let's not get Let's not do that. Let's not do that." And I love the sportsmanship. >> Yeah. >> Good to see Walsh tries it from way downtown. That doesn't go. >> Pñena's rebound. Goes up in traffic. But again, who's there protecting the rim? Nathan Elie. You better be on high alert when you went to the paint with Elsie around. Well, he didn't block that shot. He again deterred it.

100So, he's creating a lot of problems down there. >> Listen, you said it earlier. That is one tall drink of water. And the entire family from what you've told me has been >> Oh, yeah. >> They got the height. >> Yeah, I know. I uh if if if you if you find a short Elsie, let me know cuz u I I've yet to see one. >> You're big. >> Don could have get a could get a hand on that one, unfortunately. >> Little souvenir for the uh the basketball team, the varsity team coming up with the the loose ball on that one. So now the Panther is really trying to open this thing up with up seven now make it nine [cheering] and they're they're on a tear and if you remember correctly the girls

101game the Parland Panthers second half team. >> Yeah that was Hector Ramos with a quick five points in this half. Nice drop off to Don Nu Yen. [cheering] Let's see what Michael Walsh is going to call here. >> I don't think we've seen, >> you know, I was going to say I don't think we've seen enough Dawn and unfortunately he just got subbed out. >> Yeah, he got subbed out. I think I think that's Rosenberg Richardson coming in for him who was made a three. >> Wow. >> Patrick working the tight rope on that one. Nice look. Great job there by Michael. You know, he read the defense, saw that Alcie was coming for him. >> Oh, how about Rosenberg Richardson coming back into the fold >> and you know that felt good. >> Yeah,

102that was >> just to absolutely deny the Panthers there. >> That was big. He came flying back into the picture there. So, we got a follow right there. >> So, a timeout called by the Lions. >> Yeah. >> Down by nine. This has been all Panthers in the second half. >> What's happening in this second half? Well, I tell you what's happened is that Kos Flores has has continued to shine and he's he's really getting a a co-artner, a starring co-artner in this role and it's Nathan Alie. Alsie with a putback and then a number of blocks at the rim have really changed this game so far. Now, still a long way to go and a good timeout called by the Lions right now with 1451 left. Let's try to get control back. down by

103nine, but they're going to need to kind of find their way again, get some momentum back on their side as this one is getting away from them a little bit. >> Yeah, you definitely want you definitely need to recenter here. I mean, the entire first half you were leading, although be it a slim lead and you're just going to let the the Panthers come out of their cage, if you will, and uh come back and quite frankly, you're you're not looking too great. You're not looking too great at the start of this. Um but what a game. What a game so far. Both teams playing their hearts out and again the Bills offense as I like to say uh that everybody eats it's been working for them. So I think you know we we need

104to make a little adjustment to it though. Maybe start doing a Texans defense. I like that. I like that. And I like that right there. Kos Flores knocks it down at the line. Continuing to fill it up. That's point number 18 for Flores tonight. make it 19. Two for two, Walsh. And you know what? I think they needed that. That's the That's the thing that's going to get their momentum back. Walsh coming in in their faces and making that play is going to be huge for this for the Lions. >> That was a big hoop. They needed that bad. Walsh is now up to 10 points this evening. Lions down by nine. >> The Lions early on, I think their largest lead they held was six. I remember it being 11 to five. >> And

105I remember saying to myself at that point like, "Wow, it's going to be tough for Pal. They have a good team, but I feel like the Lions might have too much." And then then everything changed. >> Here he is. Wow. That's what I was afraid of. You know, I I said from the beginning, Patrick Walsh, not the tallest kid. He can clearly hoop. You know, he can clearly make those shots, but unfortunately, when you're up against someone that's double your size, you got to be a little craftier than that. >> Yeah, that was Dominic Cesar. >> Great play. Yeah, that was a great play. >> Cuz came up with a huge block. Flores. >> What else do you want? Absolute display put on by Carlos Flores. >> I'm going to need a Carlos Flores button

106on my stream deck. >> Oh, Walsh is starting to cook. >> The amount of times we said his name today. >> He's got 13 points. Trying to will the Lions back into this one. Down by eight. We're going to have to start getting some stops defensively. Pñena doing a good job defending Flores, but Flores makes a beautiful drop off to Els. He can't go. Flores comes up with the rebound. He's on the baseline. Top of the key. They rotate it to the other corner. Cesair battling. Ends up back with Flores. Flores just taking a lay of the land right here. Seeing what's going on and talking to his coach a little bit too. You know, why not? You're up. Doesn't go. Jump ball. That's Coach Benson for the Panthers who's been coaching them for a

107while now. >> And I'll tell you, he's doing a great job. >> Yeah, Benson does a nice job. Alci just short. >> Yeah, that was a good take by Alcie. Uh-oh, Rosenberg. He's made one already. That doesn't go. Rebound goes to Walsh. Oh, he thinks about it. Finds pay. >> Nice look. >> Rosenberg with another rebound. >> It's going to be Lions basketball. Here's Walsh. This will be Patrick Walsh. Passes it to Michael Walsh. >> Yeah. >> Oh, that's deep. >> It looks good, too. >> That's deep. >> Oh, I want I want it. Oh, I almost had the loose ball. Robin Babcock for the play with the recovery. >> I was looking for the loose ball. try to always come up with one, >> but when you get the kind of play on the

108court, you don't get too many of them. >> Yeah, >> kids are bringing it. >> Lazo Diaz can't get it to fall. Oh, but he comes up with a nice play. Oh, big steal, but not before Flores takes it right back. Subs coming in. >> You got subs coming in. And this is a key juncture for the Lions. Down by eight. Chance to get it to six or even five with a three. >> This is how momentum can start to build on the Lions side of things. >> Absolutely. And you know, the the half's already halfway gone. >> Yes. [cheering] >> And you got to do something here. Uh, you know, this was what happened uh last game where someone got on a tear and unfortunately you were just too far behind. >> That's exactly

109it. In that girls game it was Lafayette jumping out to a big lead. Piling closed the gap a little bit, but when you dig when you dig deep for a while, it can cost you. Let's see what Walsh can come up with here. Another great rebound. [screaming] Wow. Good job by the big fella number 23, Estaban Calderon. >> Yeah, Calderon. That's that's his second basket of the evening. are playing a bit of a zone defense. >> Yeah. And you know what, Coach Benson will instruct his Panthers to slow it down then. We don't have a shot clock. They want to play a zone. >> Carlos, I trust you with the basketball. Be patient. And that's what he does. >> And that's exactly it. He waited for his opening. >> Crowled on in there. >> He

110did. the precision of a Panther on the Prowl. >> And Walsh gonna answer that with a three. [cheering] You He's going to let you get those twos. He's just going to keep scoring the threes all night, baby. >> Well, I tell you, the math is working out. They're down by five now. That's 16 for Walsh. He's really starting to put on [cheering] his his best act at rivaling Flores. Alsie's going to try it from downtown. That's no good. But yet another offensive rebound by Pollin. And it's going to be Lions ball. So Lions basketball down by five. And you're not at the point right now if you're the Lions. You're not at the point right now where you need to. Are you kidding me, Josh? Are you kidding me right now? Backto back threes from

111Michael Walsh. I was just saying you're not at the point right now where you need to hurry. You know, you still got 7 minutes, 8 minutes left on the board and you're going to come in and show show me that. Oh man. Oh man. Tell you what, you better find You better find where number 24 is at all times. Do not give him an inch of space. He is entering unconscious territory out of body as we speak. Another three. He's got 19 points. And if you notice, he's always shooting from the same spot. He found his little sweet spot on either side of the court. He's always centering himself. Maybe he'll give it a pass, but it comes right back to him. The Rock's coming right back in and he's throwing it right in there.

112This is impressive. He's got 19. Flores has 23 for the Panthers. And we have 751 remaining in this one. Lafayette down by two. And on the back of Michael Walsh just making it rain, opening up the roof here at the uh the big house in the big hill. Clouds rolling in. >> Yeah. >> Jeez. >> All right. So, after a timeout there, let's see if Flores and the Panthers now can answer and hang on. >> And I like that time out. I believe Parllin took that time out. >> Yes, they did. Coach Benson and the Panthers took that one because let's face it, at this point, your your starters have been in for quite some time here. And they're a little guess. Let's get you Let's get you a little water. Let's reenter. You were

113on a tear at the beginning of the half. It's starting to get away with you from you. Flores says, "Absolutely not, Mr. Han. You you shut your mouth. >> He's got 25. >> Donian thinks about it. >> Pñena coming in to answer though. >> Tell you he's smooth too. I like El Pñena. He's smooth. He's strong. Strong with the handle. Explodes very well off the floor. >> There's a big finish. >> He reads the defense really well. >> He does. He does. You know, he's always there if Walsh needs someone to pass to. Don needed someone to come in. And Pena, >> he's looking pretty good to me. >> Yeah, this is this is really exciting. >> I am really uh this is what a call this has been. Justin, >> this is awesome. >>

114And this is what I was saying yesterday. This is my favorite event. This was my first event announcement with you last year. >> Are you kidding me? >> Uhoh. >> Watch out now. coming back tying the game up. [cheering] Walsh, he's got 21. It's my favorite event of the year because you never know what's going to happen. Josh, [cheering] >> well said, Justin Alcie. >> He's going to give it to Alie. Who else but the big man in the middle? >> Oh, Alie. Alie's just like, "Hey, I'm I'm here whenever you want it, whenever you need it." And he's delivered. Nathan Elie. Oh, goes away from the screen, but he lost a tie. Blew a tire on that one. >> Love to see the sportsmanship from Ali there. Just making sure he's okay. [cheering] >>

115I'm sure a lot of these kids played together on on some, you know, citywide teams or in their AAU. So, they again, city of they all, you know, they all know each other. >> Yeah. >> [cheering] >> Look at this. Flores going to work on Pñena. Good defense. >> Panthers keep it though. And >> that was good by Cal Deron getting his hands up there. >> Oh, great hands by Ali handling an absolute fast ball, but better defense right there by number 23. That's Cal Done. >> That's what I said. [cheering] Oh, what a pass. What a finish. WHAT A FINISH. >> Lasso Diaz. And how about that pass from the quarterback CARLOS FLORES SAYS, "HEY, I can make that seam route as well." >> Beautiful feed on the lead to Lazo Diaz. >> And

116the thing, you cannot let the Panthers get on a roll. We already saw what happened at the first half of this half. You can't let them get on a roll, otherwise this is what they do. They're going to come in. They're going to steamroll you. Walsh. He's got some good looks. Maybe take a look around though. There's Patrick to Pena. Oh, halfway down. [cheering] Oh, I tell you the the building was ready to just completely erupt on any any of those makes right there. Pñena from the corner went halfway down. There's our varsity team loving the action, cheering on the next wave of the future and the generations above. This is great, man. I love it. >> I think a lot of our varsity team comes from the lap ahead, if you ask me. Tell

117you what, something in the water over there. [cheering] >> So, Panthers now working that clock up by four again, taking advantage of no shot clock. That is smart. >> Very smart. >> Here comes Flores. Oh, that's a traveling violation. And that is called right there. >> That was number 28. >> Intero. Yes. Absolutely. Okay, here we go. Lions down by four with the ball. >> Michael's just going to take it himself. Oh. >> Oh, his foot's on the line. >> Yeah, [cheering] just barely the tip of his foot was on the line there. >> If he's a half shoe size smaller. >> Yeah, >> he's in play. >> Well, you know And again, Flores playing at his own pace here. No need to hurry. He waits for someone to come in and then he goes

118on the prep. You're only up by four though. Oh, nice take. What a rip by Walsh. Oh, wow. They called him for a foul. They called him for a foul on that one. [cheering] Much to the surprise of Walsh. >> Lazo Diaz going to try a three. That's no good. >> Battling for that rebound is Calderon and Flores. And it stays with the Panther. >> Stays with the Panther. Again, I told you you can't let them get on a tear. >> Here's Alcie. Let's see what he can do. [cheering] >> [cheering] >> making it look easy. >> Tell you what, he's making it look easy. He's They've increased their lead and more importantly run the clock. >> Yes, they have. >> They was on that side of the court for about a minute and that's

119huge. You know, it's getting to the point of no return here, and you can't let that happen. Here's Walsh. He's got a good look at it. >> Tell you what, really good rebound by Calderon. >> Lions down by six. >> Yeah. >> Walsh will inbound from the baseline. Pena's there for him. >> Oh, just >> gets an unlucky bounce there. Here's Walsh. [cheering] >> Good hustle. Good hustle. Great job right there by number one, Javian Abrau. >> He looked like he just wanted to take a seat there. [cheering] Yeah, I know it. >> Flores again doing a really good job leading this team. Oh my god, Patrick Walsh. What a great play >> in the end. >> Wow. And you said it. What a play by Walsh. >> What a play. He grabbed it, threw

120it back. Didn't know who was behind him, but who else would be there but Pena? Oh man. And Pena quietly has been there all night. Big hoop for Pñena. Chance at a three-point play. And to make this a onepossession game would this make Lions down by four. 44 seconds remaining on the clock. Flores encouraging the crowd to make some noise. Beautiful. What a play. Tell you what, there's not a single Oh, >> what a That almost was a great stop. >> Oh, good defense by Calder. >> Are you kidding me? Here we go. Down by three. Lions basketball. And we're going to have a timeout called by Lafayette. >> That's a great call, Josh. That's a great call. >> I tell you what, that call right there allows you that chance to reset, get a

121play call, get the spacing on the floor you want. And how about the defensive play by Estabban Calderon? A long outlet pass to a wideopen Oscar Lazo Diaz. Looked like Palin had a backbreaking layup and then out of nowhere Calderon put on his cape, came soaring into the action and he got all fired up. There's a look at our varsity team who were the stars last night. They're in the house tonight making a lot of noise and you love to see it. That's what this is all about. >> And they're supporting both sides of the team and you love to see it. But Josh, how about the play that made this as close as it is right now? Patrick Walsh, the little guy, coming in, grabbing the ball, getting it over to Pena. Pena with

122the and one. Makes all three points. >> Oh my god. Yeah, you said it. Great play by Patrick. Pena's been finishing all night. This game has been nothing short of fabulous. Might be the best game we've had the pleasure of calling. And and in my years of doing this, I have not seen a game this good before. The talent, the precision, the execution, the sportsmanship, everything about it. This is what it's all about. And we still got some time to watch some beautiful things unfold. Lafayette basketball. Here we go. Josh, we haven't sat down this half. >> No. Nope. Don't need the chair. Don't need it. Nope. That's out of bounds. That's going to stay here. That's going to stay here off of Elsie. Okay. So, we have 13 seconds left. Lions basketball. That shot

123was a little bit forced. >> Yeah. >> Pñena, who has made the right play and right decision all night, does get a chance at redemption here to line this up in the half court. Try to get it to your guys. Go to the top of the key >> to Walsh. Walsh to Walsh. The the Panthers playing great D. Okay, so out of bounds. 3.7 seconds left. >> If they can if they can get something here, this is your miracle play. If you can get the steal here, you're still in it. You still got 3 seconds on the clock. Okay, so Flores is going to get fouled and they're not in the penalty situation, so they can do this a few more times, which is actually to their advantage. So all they really have to do

124is just inbound the ball cleanly. This is going to be a Panther Championship. Yeah, Lafayette's going to try to really pressure the basketball and come up with a steal. They have no other options. 1.9 seconds remaining on this clock. It's >> It's PRE OH. OH, THAT'S ONE WAY TO GET IT BACK. THAT'S RIGHT. THERE IT IS. THAT'S A VIOLATION. >> That's a violation. >> This could be it. >> And I tell you what, 1.5 on the clock. That's enough time to get it out there and get a three. But they have to make it. [screaming] >> OH, AND THE Panthers are going to take it away. But that is not for any lack of play from the Lafayette Lions. What an absolute tear of a game, James. But Josh, I'm sorry. It doesn't get any better than what we just witnessed. An absolute brilliant display of basketball from start to finish coming down to the very last shot. Lions get it back. A good look at the three. Just wasn't meant to be. And the pile Panthers have put another championship on their mantle. taking yet another one on the play of Carlos Flores who just lit it up. 27 points. How about Nathan Alie? Want to talk about a guy for a moment? What he did defensively, some of his key buckets late. He was all over the place. It was beautiful basketball and the pollen Panthers deservingly take that championship. But you got

126to give some love to the Lions and the Lafayette school. the efforts of Michael Walsh and Estabbon Calderon, Ziel Pñena, Don New Yen, Patrick Walsh, Rosenberg, Richardson, like Lafayette was there. It was back and forth, but the Panthers under coach Benson get it done once again. A complete effort and the Panthers will add to their mantle. Justin, tell you what, doesn't get any better than what we just witnessed. It >> really doesn't, Josh. Literally down to the last second. Are you kidding me? But at I don't I don't even know what to say. You know, that that that entire game got me so hyped up. The Lions who started the game on top. The Panthers came back in the second half and just completely ran the game. Then the Lions came back again. They came

127out of their den and they started playing just basic basketball. They started playing the game just the way the way you're supposed to. Great defense, great offense by both sides of the ball. What a game. >> I tell you what, it wraps up a very special evening here at the Big House on the Big Hill. This was beautiful stuff. To see it unfold was really breathtaking. And it started with the girls game, the winners with the Lafayette Lions, but then the Parland got one back here in the boys game and what will be talked about for years to come. and we just cannot wait to see what this talent looks like when it comes up to the high school.
