Uh just recently, uh a former member of uh this honorable body, uh former colleague of many of us, but uh the former vice chair of this this committee,

003uh Michael Mlofflin, lost his his sister. Um it was sudden and um I know uh it's it's just it's just a sad thing and uh I'd like to ask for a moment of silence and uh uh that's about it. Thank you. >> Thank you, Vice Chair. U [snorts] Mr. Superintendent, the next order of business, >> Roman numeral 3, reading of the records for Monday, October the 20th, 2025. >> Make a motion to wave the readings and place on file. >> Second. >> Motion made by Miss Barrow, seconded by Miss Babcock to wave the reading and place on file for Monday, October 20th, 2025. 004public comment. >> Second. >> Motion has been made by Miss Barrow, seconded by Miss Babcock to open public comment. All those in favor? >> All those opposed? The eyes have it. Public comment is open. We have two speakers this evening. Uh first up is Randy Budro. Mr. Budro. >> Good evening. As Madam Chair mentioned, my name is Randy Budro. I am currently a front teacher here at Everett High School. I am also a member of the ETA exec board. I also work as the in the grassroots department for the MTA as the Senate District Coordinator uh for SuffK and Middle Sex counties. I'm here tonight as the Senate District Coordinator to ask for your support regarding the fiscal crisis campaign. The MTA is asking local union presidents, superintendents, school committee members, principles, assistant principles, and

005municipal leaders to sign on to a letter urging the governor and the legislature to take decisive action to address school funding in the upcoming state budget. Too many public school districts across the Commonwealth are facing several fis severe fiscal challenges that threaten to undermine their capacity to deliver a highquality public education to all students. While the Student Opportunity Act is providing meaningful investments in many communities, not every district has seen significant increases in state aid. Additionally, a combination of factors, including technical issues with the chapter 70 formula, high inflation, and escalating costs have further strained local budgets. Since fiscal challenges vary between districts, it will take a mix of solutions to ensure that every district has the resources that students in educators need to succeed. The MTA is advocating for a comprehensive legislative and budget

006platform that helps address the main drivers of the fiscal crisis facing our public schools. Together, we can build on our historic victories with the Student Opportunity Act, fair share amendment, and question two to make meaningful progress in advancing our shared vision for public education. We are also working to address the fiscal challenges facing our public colleges and universities so that we may ensure all students succeed and faculty and staff are paid the wages and benefits needed to recruit and retain a strong workforce. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Budro. Uh the next speaker is Kim Auger. Miss Auger. Um Kim Augger, president of the Ever Teachers Association, 40 Woodward Street. I did want to just be here to support Mr. Bedro when he was presenting um this very important platform that we are working on

007at the Mass Teachers Association. So I wanted to be here for him. But I also wanted to say that everyone sitting in front of me, all of you are on the ballot tomorrow. I want to wish all of you luck and I want to thank you all for the continued support that you have given to us, the educators, to the students and to our community. um with superintendent hot, we have such a such a collaborative relationship that we're able to work with all of administration, but I'm also very grateful for all of you that we're able to work together to get such an amazing contract and make sure that all of our teachers working conditions make our students learning conditions the best in the state. So, thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Auger. Seeing no

008other speakers on the sign-in sheet, is there anyone else that would like to speak at public comment? >> Make a motion to close public comment. >> Second. >> Motion has been made by Miss Babcock, seconded by Miss Barrows to close public comment. All those in favor? >> All those opposed? The eyes have it. Public comment is now closed. Superintendent. The next order of business. >> Roman numeral five report of the student representative Miss Perry. >> Thank you, Emma. >> Thank you. Good evening, everybody. The fall sports season is coming to a close and I would like to take a moment to thank all of our dedicated coaches, trainers, and team managers who helped create an environment for all of our athletes to shine. The EHS marching band ended their very successful competition season over the

009weekend. They placed first and were awarded best percussion and best music at the US band's finals on the 1st, as well as fourth place along with best percussion at the NESBA finals on the 2nd. The winter sports season will officially begin on Monday, December 1st this year. Last Friday, the seniors of Ever High had the opportunity to dress up for Halloween. Some notable costumes that stood out to me were the many minions running around the school following their leader grew singer of the weekend accompanied singer of the weekend accompanied by his security guard and Camila Cream from the book A Bad Case of Stripes. Although there were many great costumes, senior Jimmy No took home first place in the costume contest, winning a free yearbook. and senior Casey Martinez was honored second place and got

010a set of free prom tickets. The Spanish debate club had their first meeting this afternoon. A representative from the Boston Debate Club was in attendance to make a presentation for them. The mock trial team has received their first case and are beginning to prepare for their first competition. The Junior Student Council had their first meeting and are beginning to work on planning this year's junior prom. The Cavarian School Student Council is preparing to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13th. The Cavarian School is one of only four schools in Massachusetts who are a certified kindness school by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. The Parllin had a successful trunk or treat event and the Webster had a great dressup parade for Halloween last week. The Webster Extension will hold parent teacher conferences this Thursday from

0113:00 to 5:00. The extension is also taking the month of November to celebrate what they are thankful for. As part of their positive behavioral interventions and support learning focus, the Adams prek4 classes are focusing on collaborative learning while including Hagerty in the hallway which embodies their school's core values. The Whittier School's monthly character education theme for November is courtesy and students are earning prizes each Friday for accumulating waves points as part of their PBIS systems. The Maline English School had a successful fall had a successful fall festival and book fair the past two weeks and will be holding their student of the month celebration this Friday. The English has also sent out 188 invitations to students who have who have perfect attendance for both September and October to attend a popsicle party to award them.

012On November 10th at 9:00 a.m. The English school will hold their Veterans Day pro program and the Lafayette school is also having a small community Veterans Day concert Thursday on Thursday the 6th at 9:00 a.m. The school's chorus and violin ensemble will perform. And lastly, students throughout the district are preparing for the end of the first quarter, which ends this Friday, but are excited to kick off the winter months with the start of quarter 2. >> Thank you, Emma, for your update. [snorts] Any questions for the student rep? Miss Ba, >> could you remind us what PDIS means? >> It is the It's in here. Sorry. >> Nope. It's good. It is the positive behavioral interventions and supports system. So each school had them like they explained at last week's meeting I think. >> Thank

013you very much. Mr. Mayor, >> what school will be doing the Veterans Day event? >> The two schools that um included them in their emails to me were the Meline English and the Lafayette. >> What dates are those? Did you >> The English is on November 10th at 9:00 a.m. and the Lafayette is on th Thursday the 6th at 9:00 a.m. >> Thank you. >> Of course. >> Thank you, Miss Perry. Great job. >> Is there a motion to accept the report of the Make a Motion to accept? >> Second. >> Motion made by Miss Babcock, seconded by Miss Cornelio to accept the report of the student representative. All those in favor? All those opposed? The eyes have it. Superintendent. The next order of business. Roman numeral six report of the superintendent item number one

014the superintendent's update and uh Miss Perry is a hard act to follow with all her great information. Um she does save me a lot of time because she gets all that great information out really quickly. So thank you um Emma for that and um obviously Veterans Day is fast approaching and the school district along with the city are planning events that we will invite the are inviting the public to and they will appear on our website. Um the first one as u Miss Perry mentioned is at the Lafayette school open to parents, grandparents and guardians of our students and certainly the school committee is welcome to attend as well as the one that's put on by the Maline English School. They both put a lot of energy and time into it. Every school has something

015going on, but those two schools do full productions with music and um some poetry. There's a lot of folks involved and they have a very advanced um group. So, um, the items that, uh, Miss Perry mentioned that are open to the public and to you as school committee members get emailed to you usually on Monday afternoon so that you have them at least at a fingertip, but most of them do appear on our social media as well as our website. Um, Veterans Day um, is also a day in which our schools tried to participate in meaningful ways to support and acknowledge the many veterans who have served and are currently serving. Uh this year um we will host um or we will go to the soldiers home this Friday and put on a concert with

016our with our student um musicians for the folks at the soldiers home, many of which do come from Everett that reside up there. We'll also be working with the new veterans agent for the city of Everett, Erica Coelli, who will who will remind us of the importance of our veterans and the work they've done and continue to do on behalf of this city and this world. Um she will be attending a few informational sessions across several of our schools this week uh to meet with students to talk about the work of not only her role in the city but why she uh does what she does on behalf of veterans. And I know we have a former veterans affair agent um to my right u vice chair Christristiano and you know the importance of the

017work that that job um has for the city and for the veterans that they serve. Our students across the district will also make some cards and other treats to send to our veterans. um not only at the soldiers home but for locations that we've been made aware of that our veterans reside. So um please stay tuned. There will be as I said um lots of ways in which we can acknowledge and honor our veterans and please I hope each of you and those at home do take advantage of what's happening not only in our schools but for the city. Um, oftentimes we do forget our veterans because we take for granted the freedoms um that we enjoy and we forget the men and women who fought for that for many many years. Um, my dad

018was a veteran. I know many of you understand the importance of that and and want to acknowledge. So, please um join in on any of the events that are planned throughout the city. Um, as a reminder, tomorrow um is election day. Thank you um Miss Auger for mentioning that and to um the members. So, the schools are open tomorrow. the schools will not have students attending classes as we made that decision even prior to my arrival as superintendent to be sure that our students were home uh when when people are coming into the buildings to vote. Many of our schools are voting locations but our gives us an opportunity based on the contract that we have with the teachers association and other uh of our groups will come together for for professional development in various

019school buildings. So, all of our staff will report to work tomorrow and they will have professional development and training um depending on which title they have and hold here, they'll go to a certain school um to have a full day of um sessions. Bless you, to support the work that they do in our schools. And um make no mistake about it, we have some very talented men and women that are um staffing our schools in various capacities. But like all of us, sometimes we like to get uh retoolled and retrained. And I think that these professional development opportunities do just that. It gives them some new energy, some new ideas, some new techniques. And so tomorrow will be that day um for our staff across the board. Um we'll also have a delayed entry into

020the building here at Ever High School on Wednesday and we'll do that through May. Um this is an opportunity for some very specific sessions for all of our staff here at the high school. Again, we want to stay on the cutting edge of technique and and strategy and working with our students at whatever level they're here with us at. So, those Wednesday morning delays for students um will start as a on a trial basis starting um next Wednesday um and continue on through May. So, we will have those reminders on our website and um there'll be some social media and class um remark, excuse me, class um comments will be made in our uh class remind here at Ever High School to remind parents. Um this past Saturday, I had the privilege of attending um

021a ceremony and a celebration of life for Dr. Mazuchi. So, many of you may know Dr. Mizuchi was a well-known um Everick pediatrician who gave countless hours to this community in so many different ways but was one of the original um co-founders if you will along with our former educator Jackie Menachello Kugan who uh established and worked so hard on the joint uh committee for children's health here in Everett and now it's expanded quite frankly beyond ever because of the advocacy that the two of them in particular and others along the way um support our children um in the communities. So, Dr. Mizuchi's family came together to honor his life. I think Mayor D. Maria, you had also dedicated a bench in the square in his memory and uh the family continues to be a

022very strong supporter of this city and our school system. So um we did have as you could imagine um an Everett student was asked to perform and this particular student is also um her dad works in the system but Olivia Lelaw um sang a rendition of In My Life by the Beatles which was Dr. Mizuchi's favorite song and um I'm not a big Beatles fan but I know besides me everybody in that room was crying. So, uh, she did a phenomenal job and again in true Everett style, um, she gave it her all and I'm so happy and proud that we can continue to have our young people showcase their talents even in times like that. Homecoming, many of you, in fact, most of the people in this room um, participated at some level in

023homecoming activities which were this a week ago on a Friday evening and Saturday. As I mentioned before, I wanted to thank uh Mayor Di Maria for supporting this work because um he was able to raise thousands of dollars to support all the activities that we hosted free for our families to come and enjoy both on Friday uh evening here uh beyond the the walls here at Ever High School out at um Glendale Park and then of course on Saturday. Uh the game culminated a a morning of events from the homecom home homecoming hustle to a pancake breakfast here that supported our athletes. Um the homecoming hustle supported uh the work of the Cambridge Health Alliance Everett campus. Uh we were able to make a nice donation to them uh from proceeds from the from the

024race. Um we had a street fair of sorts or a tailgate party with musicians and food vendors and just great fun. Um we were very fortunate to have great weather on our side both Friday evening with fireworks that um lit the sky up behind us and um you know here we go Everett. Um good things happen here. Not one issue when when you think of the thousands of people who came together from across the city and some probably snuck in from outside of Everett. Um not one incident uh because our people do care about one another and um lots of good things came from that weekend. We certainly were able to recognize some former athletes uh before the game, dedicated the field um at the Veterans Memorial Stadium to a former coach here, John Daso

025Jr., who had a stellar career in Everett and certainly beyond. And um his players and um former coaches uh from Everett came back to recognize and honor him and his commitments to Everett. And of course to coach Dorettto who's put on um a lot of work this year build building a team really from um from scratch again with new players, new energy, new focus and while we are not always victorious on the field, the work that's being done behind the scenes um making ready our young people uh for competition, it doesn't just happen um in the classroom but on the field. And so um that continues to happen. We're building strong minds here and um course coaching um any sport is excuse me is certainly part of that process. So I want to thank all

026[clears throat] the countless people who put so much time and energy into it. Uh Rosemary Hughes for example from the Everett um ever public schools was uh worked in tandem with Mr. Jerry Navara from the city of Everett and together with the energy and excitement of many folks um here in in um in our schools and in our city uh a wonderful um event return to the streets of Everett. So thank you to everybody for that for that great work. I also wanted to extend um the congratulations to an Ever High School graduate and she is a current uh UMass Boston um freshman Laura Leight. Um she was a student honored at the Mass Bioed 10th anniversary um annual Champions for Biotech award gala and it was held last week. Um she had really distinguished

027herself amongst so many young people um in the Commonwealth by the um Mass Bioed uh Association and uh her leadership and kindness. Um she was nominated by professors and um certainly we're so proud of her as a former student. Uh we also had our our state senator uh present an award that evening to her in front of all of uh those in attendance. Um STEM week we have been very busy in October with STEM activities. As you may remember we had a visit from the the secretary here in Massachusetts um who Mr. Snder who visited our school here at Ever High School, but there were other activities that were happening across um Ever High School in the district that um incorporated so many different staff and students. I want to give a shout out to

028some of our faculty advisers to that help pull a lot of this work together to showcase our student and their in their excellence. Uh Dr. Chris Blland, Dr. Anna Sides, and Dr. Hearn, they put together students and staff um to put some projects forward that made us really put us out there. And I also wanted to acknowledge um here with us this evening, Nancy Setta, who um without her leadership in that area, um we couldn't do it without you. So, thank you, Nancy, for being here and to the work that you do uh on behalf of this district. [applause] So, we have lots of honors and I think um it's great to say that the Webster School here in Everett on uh Dartmouth Street uh we received notice at the uh beginning of this past

029week that they have been named a national distinguished school by the National Association of State Program Administrators. two schools get nominated or selected I should say um in the in the state in the category and um the Webster school has received that distinction. There'll be more information coming forward but um schools are named by their state education agency. So DESIE and correct me if I'm wrong um uh Mr. Barrett that um two schools per state get nominated. Webster was one of those two schools and um there's certain criteria I won't go through it but needless to say once again ever gets recognized for the great things that are happening in our schools and on behalf of people that otherwise wouldn't be acknowledged. So I want to thank um Mr. Barrett and his team down at

030the Webster for all the work they've done to prepare our young people at that school. Um last week I know uh a couple of you at least in the audience were in attendance here at the parent university which was our second so it's a second one that um I've been involved with since joining as your superintendent um for parent university. more than 95 families did register for the event that was held here at the high school on a wide variety of topics for our parents. And I think if you remember I mentioned that at a previous meeting about holding this and we had uh workshops in various categories and various things of interest to not only incoming um student families but also students that were here and uh family members who were preparing them to

031go uh into to higher education. So, we had um the Elliot Family Resource Center providing um some information, the Cambridge Health Alliance, the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority as they prepared um financial aid workshops, and the Metro North uh Regional Employment Board, now known as Mass Hire, talking with parents um and young people actually too, that were in attendance about any one of those topics that um their agencies or organizations covered. So, it was a good event. will continue to build upon that to give our families every advantage that they need. Whether they are considering um higher education beyond every high school or some other field of study uh or training, we're going to continue to um expand that opportunity. Um and Miss Janette Vez spearheaded that efforts on uh on behalf of our schools. We

032will also have some uh free ELS classes. Um, we're going to start uh those um which actually already started a week ago, but we still want to let people know that there's 8week sessions over the over this this winter season, I'll call it, and then again in the spring of times and locations, and you can even join on Zoom. You can get all this information on our website, but it's free to families um who don't um speak English as their first or primary language. So, we'll have an opportunity for folks to um join and join in at any entity stop along the way. Um Ever also celebrated on Friday, October the 24th. So, that Friday weekend that we had homecoming, we also recognized Brandon Condi. Brandon um was an Ever High School graduate who suffered

033some lifealtering injuries during a very tragic accident in 2019. And uh Brandon has kind of been a a fixture with Everett public schools. She's um somebody that our city comes together and supports um in very um visible ways. So Brandon Condi Day um for those of you who participated, everybody who was um acknowledging him as our is our friend and city partner uh wore red that day and he was on hand that Friday evening to uh flip the switch for the beginning of our fireworks display on homecoming weekend. And um finally uh the Ever High School Theater Company will um stage a comedy called The Late Bus by BD Samuels on November the 20th and the 21st here at Ever High School in the auditorium at 6:30. Tickets are free for our Ever Public School

034students and $10 for adults. So if any of you are available on the 20th and the 21st, come see our young actors and actresses do what they do best on stage. Um, and there's some uh very talented young people that I think and encourage all of you to come see. So, with that, Madam Chair and members of the committee, I submit to you my very quick report on activities at the Ever Public Schools uh both past couple of weeks and into the future. >> Thank you, Superintendent. Any uh Miss Garin? >> Uh, thank [clears throat] you, Madam Chair. Uh, Mr. Hart, I was wondering if you could talk a little more about this the late start Wednesdays at the high school. Um what's that about? >> So our teachers and paraprofessionals and other staff um

035we decided during our contract negotiations with um the ever teachers association to try and provide a very specific time in which teachers would be trained in some of the latest strategies and technologies across many disciplines. And one of the ways in which we wanted to do this, and it's not un unusual, in fact, we were probably one of the few districts in the area, and um president of the ETA is here, so please correct me, um that don't have that kind of carved out time to do very specific targeted training. Again, we want to be sure our folks are are doing kind of the latest, if you will, and I don't want to say the greatest, but the latest in some of strategies in terms of teaching uh different areas. And so I think this

036time um will allow us to do that and it will be um on a trial basis. I want to be sure that no offense to the teachers. I want to be sure we get the the best and the most out of that time. So it's going to be time I think well spent and I believe we're going to assess that and again I'm looking to the president of the teachers association and I think members of uh negotiating committee that we're going to re-evaluate that to see what we were we able to do what we expected to do. did it have too much disruption to the school day or to the school children uh here at Everett High School only. So that'll uh begin um in earnest and again we'll report back to you in May.

037>> Okay. And um does that does that mean that the school day starts later for the students and ends later or >> ends the same time? It just starts it starts a little bit later. So they'll give up u I think it's one of their I don't want to call it a free period and correct me again if I'm wrong. it is we would be taking the time on learning out of um a specialty session or a free class and I and I I'm not sure of the very specific but we take it out >> okay >> intervention right I knew it was that so it's not it's not necessarily going to be um a subject matter >> okay great thank you >> thank you miss Karen Miss Babcock >> it's really just a continuation

038of the same question because I was viciously writing notes and I missed something So, um, it's it's only at the high school. >> Yes. >> And it's is it the first Monday? Uh, I mean the first Wednesday of the month. Is that what you said? >> It starts this coming Wednesday, November 5th. And I'm going to give you the students will report to their home room by 9:40. So, the cafeteria will still be open in the building starting a little after 9:00. And then they get to their home room by 9:25. Um, between 9:25 and 9:40. >> What time may the students enter the school? >> Could they come They can go to the cafeteria, but we would prefer that if they aren't coming here to go and have something to eat or study that

039we don't want them like running around. >> What's your recommendation? Are they to come into the front door of the building? >> The normal entrances. So, if they come in the back, they'll still be allowed in the front. Absolutely. Yeah. >> So, they can come in either way because we have security at both entrances. So, we have check-in at both entrances. >> Yeah. I I have seen that practice in other schools that the the first Wednesday in other school districts is is professional development or training. I've seen this a number of my friends have had that. >> Yeah, there's a couple of districts actually do it a couple of times a month and we're we're trying this. >> So, so the first Wednesday of the month only the high school. Correct. >> Correct. >> Okay.

040Easy peasy. >> Thank you, Miss Babcock. And if I could just clarify real quick off of that as well that parents and guardians will receive communications via email, via Remind, and via talking points before this happens so that they're >> happens this Wednesday. So that's the first day and I believe that the principal and I'll have Dave double check that for us in the morning. We'll send that out >> as a reminder. >> Perfect. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. >> Thank you. Um, just I know you said you give us some more information, but I just wanted to congratulate the Webster School on that award. It seems uh I don't know much about it, but to be one of two schools in the entire state of Massachusetts to get that award that uh I definitely want

041to hear more about that. But uh congratulations to the Webster School and their staff and everyone that works down there to make that possible. And I would be remiss if I didn't publicly I know I did it through email and calls but I just want to thank Rosemary Hughes um for her to be able to work with you know some of the team members that I have assembled uh on uh homecoming and get everything they all wanted to get done and uh and we got it done and to keep everybody organized and to create the budget and she gave me my my marching orders how you know what we needed to get and you know I was able to get that for her and I just want to say for her and and Jerry and

042um and the team that put that together uh it was it was a great day and um I look forward to working uh with her on many other uh projects. She truly is a good hire. Um so and and thank you to the schools for also embracing Brandon Connie Day. Um Brandon went through a an awful um um setback in life uh years ago and uh he definitely enjoys um that we all continue to root him on on his pursuit to uh someday be able to walk again. Um he was telling me about some some stuff that is happening overseas with the with research and some uh some stem cell uh work that's going on to uh help uh those who are uh unable to walk walk again. So he seems very optimistic and um

043I think when we all get together and we are ready for him it really makes him feel great and we celebrate that day for him. So thank you for continuing to work with us on celebrating Brandon Connie Day. So, thank you. >> My pleasure. And there are plenty of um photos of all of those events on our website. I do know that we generally leave some highlights not only here at your school committee uh table, but um for the public uh that may attend. So, there'll be some pictures and quick stories just so you can have a quick uh look at what's been occurring over the past couple of weeks in the school district. >> Thank you, Miss Babcock. >> I realized I had one more question. I just uh found here for the um

044ESL classes. I am assuming those are the adult education classes. >> Yeah. >> Um just for anybody who might have >> missed that. How many how many um how many students can take those classes? Do you know offhand? >> I don't know. I know that it's um we're going to try to accommodate everybody that does sign up and then they can take them in different sections and sessions. So there there's a Zoom session for example on a Saturday which you know again depending on how many sign up I think that the the numbers I want to say limitless but I don't think we're restricted right now. >> That's how I started my career doing community- based ESL for the Red Cross >> on Saturday mornings. >> Yeah. And it happens. >> No Zoom in those

045days. [laughter] >> All right. Well, thank you for clarifying that and congratulations to Mr. Barrett, too. I'm I'm really not surprised. The Webster School has always been a wonderful school. um well-run and efficient and he makes the most out of everything in that school and so do all the teachers. So, it's awesome. Congratulations, Mr. Barrett. >> Thank you. >> Just just a an aside, I you know, since we're talking about the uh Webster school, uh just to let you all know that uh when the school was built that first year, I was in the kindergarten graduating class. Superintendent. The next order of business. Item number seven, acceptance of a $10,000 grant from the Everett Citizens Foundation. I'm asking for favorable action to accept this grant. As you may remember, the Everett Citizens Foundation was established as part of the city's host agreement with Win Resorts, and it does support all various types of activities that promote local groups, associations, and programs that have a direct support and benefit to the Ever residents. Um the school department has received several of these in a p in the past and the Devon school uh wrote this grant to launch what we

054call the next level learning lab which will be an afterchool program that extends academic and therapeutic supports for students with complex learning and emotional needs. We're hoping to serve about 40 students from ages 5 to 21. Um and we'll run Monday through Thursday. This grant of course will uh help us get to that place. move for favor favorable action to accept $10,000 grant from the Ever Citizens Foundation. >> Uh on the motion, Miss Babcock, >> uh yes. Who wrote the grant for this? >> Uh it would be this but there's a combination of people at the school. So it's um the principal and other staff that they bring together and look at ways in which they can enhance the work they're doing. You know, after you know, we put our budget together starting next month.

055So some of our staff look at other opportunities and say, "Oh, we should have asked for this." And then people seek out grants that will support it. The Ever Citizens Foundation has supported activities including um special learning musical um entertainment for our preschool program. Um it's all based on merit um in various departments will write grants. Not all of it are accepted, but um this is one that will provide something new and additional to support our students at the Devon School. >> Well, it sounds wonderful. I want to say I know how much work goes into grant writing. every one of the this type of grant requires some thought and process and I've seen the ever uh citizens uh foundation grants before be I've seen the forms it's quite complicated so it's wonderful that uh

056we have this money for the dev and school program so second if someone hasn't >> thank you Babcock on the motion Mr. here on on the motion. Actually, the grant grant is not really that difficult to write. Um, and we have uh to, you know, made the announcement to the school principles and PTO's that, as you know, we have about $250,000 that comes in every year from uh part of the host community agreement and we told the schools to make sure that they always apply uh cuz we'd rather give the money to our our own school children. Sometimes we've given money out to some other organizations outside the city because we don't really get many people to apply. So, um so just uh out to the school administrators just let the schools know that that

057we do that every quarter. Once a quarter we do a round of uh donations. So, >> thank you, Mr. Mayor, for that clarification. The motion has been made by Miss Cornelio, seconded by Miss Baros to accept the $10,000 grant from the Ever Citizens Foundation. Roll call. >> Mr. Mr. Almeida Barrows. >> Yes. >> Miss Babcock, >> yes. >> Miss Barrows, >> yes. >> Miss Cornelio, >> yes. >> Miss Cristiano, >> yes. >> Mayor Di Maria, >> yes. >> Mr. Denafhrio, >> yes. >> Miss Garren, >> yes. >> Mr. Lmon Monica, >> yes. >> Madame Chair, >> yes. >> So move 100. I'm asking for your favorable action to accept this. This

058$4,000 was a result of a fundraiser that was held by the firefighters union and um their member Adam Reaguchi um helped direct the funds that were raised from that to support the Crimson Tide marching band, the Colorinary Arts Department, the theater company and the history club. So I'm asking for your favorable action. >> Favorable action. >> Second. >> Motion has been made by Miss Barrow, seconded by Miss Babcock for favorable action to accept the $4,000 donation from the Ever Fire Department Local 143. U they're a good group of men and women that do a lot of good stuff for the city of Ever. So I want to thank them. We have a great um relationship with both the ever police and the ever fire who um donate time and money to many different things that we do in the schools. So I want to thank both of them publicly as well for considering Ever public schools as one of the places they make a donation to. >> Thank you Mr. Mayor and superintendent. I would like to from the chair also thank the um local 143 union for their donation. A lot of effort went into

060fundraising and even more effort into uh where the money was going to go. Um, so roll call. >> Mr. Elmeros, >> yes. >> Miss Babcock, >> yes. >> Miss Barrows, >> yes. >> Miss Cornelio, >> yes. >> Miss Cristiano, >> yes. >> Mayor Di Maria, >> yes. >> Mr. Dinario, >> yes. >> Miss Garren, >> yes. >> Mr. Lam Monica, >> yes. >> Madame Chair, >> yes. >> So move 100.
