Okay. Okay, it is after 7 o'clock at this point, so we'll go ahead and get started. Sorry for my tardiness. Um, first item is a roll call. Uh, with the record reflect that Deb is absent. Hopefully all of us are hearing some question. Um, and we'll stand for the pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Okay, then our first public comment is Misty Moore. >> I really thought I was going to have time. Where do you want me to fine? Wherever you would like to. Um, okay. Uh, two things. And of course, I didn't have time to read all the thing. Do I have a time limit? I generally do, right? >> About three minutes. timer,
but um Natalie to to the board and whomever uh all of you important folks who remember Natalie had the opportunity to go to Washington DC this past month and it was an incredible trip. Um the the uh agenda was obviously jam-packed and I don't know how they saw everything that they did in the time that they had. I've been to Washington DC four times and every time I go I come back saying I wish that every American could go see all of our monuments and our Smithsonian institutions there, the National Mall, our place where we do business for the United States. It's just such an incredibly powerful place and I know that her tour really felt that. Her tour guide was excellent. They saw all the things that they wanted to but even had some
time to do what they wanted to even apart from one another. She chose to go to the Holocaust Museum and um American history, I think. Um and it w it was so incredibly impactful. She came back saying, "I hope Ella gets to go. I wish everyone could go too and I still wish that if any of you haven't been or any of you haven't been, that you go if you get the chance." So, thank you for supporting that time away from school for them. Um, it I 100% believe that it is obviously incredibly educational and just really impactful for them as they learn how to be citizens and contribute to their communities as you have done. Do I get three minutes for a topic? Um, my other one is I kind of wanted to just
have a general pep talk for you guys. It's so hard to serve and I don't envy your role, but I have been in it and I know that you're making really hard decisions. Um, I know that it's been a tricky year for everyone in the community and you've had so many people in here yapping at you about what the right thing to do is. And I'm always going to just continue to hope that we can just kind of hold a steady course. And there's I just feel like there's so much information coming at us always. I know that you all know this, but I just believe so much in our school and I believe so much of what you do in terms of just showing up every month, listening to all of us and supporting
our students to get a good education. My priority for you, if I had one ask, is to follow our incredibly passionate and well-educated leaders. I want to thank Mr. Christensen for how much heart he's put into this school in terms of leading our teachers and giving our students such incredible opportunities. I'm finally graduating a senior this year and she has had incredible opportunities that I know that Mr. C has had um a direct hand in saying this will be excellent for Natalie Stall. he can handp pick these kids and go, I know what this person needs. And I have seen him provide so much support to our students and to our teachers that I just am so grateful for. Mr. C and to the board. Um I just hope that you can continue to empower
these really well educated people. Our I believe in our instructors that they know exactly what they're doing and they're making good decisions for their classrooms and their curriculums. Thank you. Time's up. >> If you have something for anybody that brings public comment, if you don't get to finish, we're happy to see that in writing or whatever, too. So, that's helpful just in case we Thank you. Um, the next item on our agenda, this one's really loud to me. Is it really loud to everyone else? Okay, just echoing my head. Um the next item is the approval of our agenda. Are there any changes, comments, concerns from my fellow board members before we make that motion? >> All is well. Okay. I would entertain a motion to approve the agenda. >> I move to approve the
agenda. >> Second as amended. As amended. Second. It has pro been properly moved and seconded to approve the agenda. All in favor, please say I. I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. >> Okay. Our house presentation. >> I Yes, it's on Canva. Sent it to you now. >> I haven't looked right there. Just now. >> Just in time delivery. >> I know. I didn't >> very crowded over there. >> Hi. Um, we are House Indominus. Our house represents House of Fearless. House of Fearlessness. It is led by Matthew and myself. Go to the next slide. And this is like a breakdown of our members like our teachers, Miss Johnson. Um the students members are myself, Matthew, Isaac, and Ella. Our other staff members consist of Lacy, Mr. Kidnai, and Seth Carrer. And then our cub house
is Moroi. Um House Indominus was born from the spirit of fearlessness. Spartan warriors who fearless Spartan warriors who valued independence, courage, and strength through struggle. Today that spirit lives on in Claremont where where students stand bold, think freely and stay true to who they are. >> Our core values are fearlessness, independence, resilience, strength, wisdom, and leadership. >> Talking about our crest and this is a breakdown of what it is. So we picked fire because it marks as our untameable spirits that we have with everything that we do and how passionate we are when we come to it. Then we have the spades which represents wisdom and how we're over we're able to overcome hardships that are tossed in our way and we're able to move around those. Then we picked the fine you as our
brand because we wanted to resemble like a freedom spirit because it's flying away. It's ourselves and the limitless potentials that we have as we continue to grow in our way. And then we have the bullhorn helmet on it which represents our power, pride and a fierce independence that we all have and that we all bring to the table when we talk about house of dominance. Um so our sources of strength are friends. So we really support the outside relationships of um and even like inside school. We really look to go to those people when you need emotional support, motivation, belonging, confidence, um perspective, I think. Um and so that's what we support and what we really believe in as house of our activities that we are doing this week or this this month is the
food drive which is going through um throughout the month, the bake sale which already happened this Tuesday and the community movie night which is the which is next week on Thursday the 16th and we are doing this for our friends our friends which are sources of strength wheel supporting us through challenges and helping us grow with confidence and mainly uh to give back to the public and give back to the community. >> Thank you all for your time. THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU. >> OKAY. Consent items. Any questions, concerns on these consent items? Seeing none, I would entertain a motion to approve consent. >> I'll move to approve the items on the consent agenda as presented. >> Second. >> Sam moves there. Second to approve the consent items as presented. Is there any discussion?
Seeing none. All in favor, please say I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Okay. First action item, approval to advertise for propane bids for fiscal year 2627. The bid will include a price to pre-by 60,000 gallons including propane correct district. The bid to include a u include a not to exceed price for every gallon over 60,000 used between the dates of July 1st 206 to June 30th 2027. a question that something we do every year. Anything new or different? >> Been thinking about this one. I didn't visit with Greg. Wayne, if you're thinking the same way, the last two years, we've we've had a pretty amazing bit of price on this and it it's kept our utility cost way down. Unfortunately, in recalibration, the funding that we're going to get for utilities is is set at
what we spent last year. >> And that's not only our our one of our cheapest propane bid prices, but also it was not the gold winner, etc., etc., which puts us at a it's a disadvantage. Um, I don't I don't know that the price of petroleum products right now is going to come out as where we'd like it. I think when this bid comes back, if if it's not great, we can move forward just paying spot prices and maybe bid out again when we think it might get better. >> This is a kind of a peak time for petroleum prices and walking into a contract at a high type of price so much the gamble to it comes down. You're not locked in price. >> Yeah. I mean there's no reason not to bid but
when it when we get the bid back if it is unfavorable I think the spot market. >> Okay. Knowing that um I guess this is just to approve that we put it out for bid and then when it comes back we take another look. Okay. I would entertain a motion to do so. >> I I make a motion we advertise for propane bid. >> I'll second. >> Ernie moves Sam seconds to post uh advertise for propane bids for fiscal year 2627 as recommended by the administration. Is there any discussion? Seeing none, all in favor, please say I. Any opposed? Motion carries. Um, next item of business, appoint approval of Clear Creek Rec District board member representative. Um, when we had our board members step off, our alternate stepped into that position. So, now we don't
have a backup. So, is there anybody interested in that position being involved? Do you already do that from the city council side or >> I'm in the city council right now? So be able to remove myself and I'll be able to give it my full attention best job possible. >> And do they have a representative from city council as well on their board? >> Yes. >> Um Gina, you're on right now, right? So we just need to back up. Guess I'll volunteer myself. >> Sam, if you are willing in the case that Gina can't make it or steps off the board, then that would be wonderful. I would entertain a motion to >> I move to appoint and approve Sam Olson as the 2026 alternate Clare Creek Recreation District board member representative. >> Second. >>
Oh, okay. >> So, I'm appointing you're approving. Um, it has been moved by Gina, seconded by Ernie to as uh to appoint Sam the appointment of Sam to the rec district board as an alternate. Is there any discussion? Seeing none, all in favor, please say I. I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Uh approval to advertise for junior high head ball position. Uh last meeting we uh accepted the resignation of our existing junior high coach. Um so this is to replace that position. We uh it appears as of right now that we will have the students for a program. So we need a coach. I'll move to approve advertisement for a junior high school head boys basketball coaching as recommended by the administration. >> Second. >> Sam moves and there are any seconds. Is there any
discussion? Seeing none. All in favor please say I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Uh, next item, approval of the life life skills committee recommendation to utilize a seven habits book study for life skills curriculum. >> Oh my gosh, you're noisy. >> Kelly, would she come to me? >> She might try. >> Just don't find out. >> Just don't pinch it. Um so as um pre right before the previous meeting we had anformational session uh presented by the life skills committee on the different options they were looking at the direction they were looking to go. Uh at that time it was leader and me which is a seven habits Franklin CVYbacked program. Uh, moving forward, we had a conversation about there is a large investment to that and maybe we could dial it back and just
do a seven habits book study for the coming year and see that would give us a taste of if this is a direction we want to go all in on um or not. and it would be a year without sources of strength to see if it's something that's missed or something that we think we're okay to move on without. Uh, anything else on that or >> ask me committ has any questions? Um, does anybody from that committee, anybody else want to add what I >> I just would like to say that if we're going to do this, I think uh having some training is important because if we're going to do it, we want to do it to the best of our ability to see what we think of it. And I personally could use
some help with that from somebody that knows what they talk about that. Um, can one of you speak to the logistics of how it would be incorporated or is that something that would have to come after the meeting? >> How the training would be incorporated? >> The how the >> the curriculum would be would it be a separate class? Would it be incorporated in each class existing classes? >> I can speak for the elementary portion. We have aces this year taught by Mrs. Elling Rod who is retiring. And so we have a gap in our schedule where ACES would typically be where we would be doing the book study with it's still in the works for what grades would receive what books because Chase had spoke to a representative from the Seven Habits people and
we're still trying to figure out what book would be appropriate. K3 definitely will be the kids version which is a picture book and four through six we're thinking the picture book still also but supplementing with the teen version and 7 through 12 would be the teen version as far as what that looks like. That's still a discussion we need to have with the committee. Um there was mention of the training that which I guess is our next item. So maybe we should hold off on talking about that piece. Um, is there anything else from the committee that we're missing trying to think through? All was said was >> I think 7 through 12 is going to have to meet as a staff and figure out how we're piecing it in. Um, I think there's an
opportunity that lasts 30 minutes of a day, one day a week, and we're all in a book study at the same time. Um, that seems to be the easiest way to apply it 712. And my understanding is that all staff would be trained and would basically hold an expectation for these and maybe eventually be incorporated into the panther way some things like that so that it was something that became a part of our culture and not just a class. Is that accurate to say? And that's one of the reasons to look at the seven habits is they they do have different levels of the book, but we could all be in habit one at the same time, K12 across the board. So, we would be teaching and reinforcing it no matter what class students were
in. >> Question. >> I I I have a question. But it's my understanding this is not a curriculum. It's a culture. Is that correct? >> It would be both >> because if I my research on it said it is not a curriculum. It is a culture building program. Uh, a couple of concerns I have is is it one is the cost and are we going to see the value of return of that and if it's if it's a culture thing and it's for life skills are we meeting life skills now with the house system because my my studies and and research on that saying it's a life skills program and so is the house system. Are we duplicating a program we already have? Are we going to discontinue a program and go with this one?
Uh, another concern I have is it sounds like from the committee that there's still work to do to see if it's a fit and how it's going to be utilized. Is that a correct statement? That's what I heard. >> Well, I don't we don't even know how we're going to do the votes yet. We're going to talk about the questions I think the questions left are for staff to to figure. We've got experts in curriculum and instruction that can take the committee's recommendation of a of a resource and put it to use. I don't know that the committee is best placed to decide which book fits where. Let our experts do that. >> Okay. So, this is saying of approval of the book study. Is that that's correct? That's what we work on now. But
what is a contract with Franklin Cubby? Do we have to go to that contract if we're just doing a book study? and are we rope into something financially that we're going to find out is not not going to be functional. I guess my interest here is that we invest money since we are is a budget compromise to what we can do coming up. Is is is this program overlapping a program? Is it replacing a program? And if it's not, if it if it's in line with as a separate program, is that is is that a good good spot to put our money? Is there something that we can better serve the school with? That's just my concern is I've also concerned is uh this is possibly just a one-year thing. What do we what's our
investment in just just the book study without the training part? Is that I'm understanding right that we're talking about a book study here and not going full on uh because my research that is very open-ended. that particular organization does not tell you a price until you sign the paper. Between 45 and $60,000 is what I seen for the initial setup. Then there's a continual fee annually for it. And there's all other sources programs where you can buy the accessories and everything that goes, but I'm just trying to get my head around is is this program worth the money that we're we're talking about possible spending on and what's the cost difference between the book study and full-blown training and everything that goes with it? And does the contract with Frank McCy add cost to that?
And and I apologize because I'm going to the next item with it, but I I think they they they interchange together. They have to work together. If we did if we decide not to go with the uh the book study is the next one, I'll void. So I I just that's kind of uncomfortable with it from what I'm hearing and the cost. And those are just answers that I would like to see. >> Do you want to answer? I'd love to um the I I do believe when you're thinking about a cost of4 to $60,000 the committee recommendation that you know the the committee that the board put together of community members parents staff that looked into various options for this and came back with a recommendation last month of leader in me. uh and
leader in me is uh a program and I think that's probably most of what your research was was on it sounds like um and that that absolutely cost there is 45 60,000 uh because there is three years worth of 4 days of of professional development each year and it it really is around making the change with the the way that staff approach things, the way that students approach things, everything else. Gives you three years of four days of PE and what the the committee heard from both community and board directive last month was uh that we maybe weren't ready to take that large a step and go back to the go back to the conversation. Committee went back to conversation. They are now presented to the board having spent two and a half months on
discuss and figure out the best path forward that we utilize this seven habits books and it's it's a book study. It's purchasing books and it's going to be quality reading material for students whether it's part of a book study or not. part of what we do is buy kids books and to at at the risk of of intertwining the agenda items as well, but I asked the committee to consider a training to go along with that because in order for our adults to best implement a book study, they have to be educated in in the material first. So the the contract with Franklin CVY for the seven habits training is a one-day training would be for staff to attend, community to attend. We would ask the company to put on a evening session that could
be attended by those that weren't able to make a full day session and give a a good view, understand everything else of of the direction that will be going. >> Is that is that training and additional cost? Is that included in 45 to 60? The 45 to 60 is not not part of the conversation. We're talking about buying books for kids. 60 books. Maybe maybe the cost is 1,200 bucks. Maybe it's 1,500 bucks depend on cost of book. I mean, somewhere in that neighborhood that training is right now, uh, we'd be looking at potentially trying to schedule it on April 24th. It's a PD day that we've got for staff. We may have to look further into and potentially pull a summer day if we're not able to to get that with the company. But,
um, in person, that's $4,000 training if we're able to do it online. Um because the right now the auction for April 24th is online. I haven't asked if it's a discounted price or not. 4,000 train. >> And as for the whole word, not per per teacher. >> It's a $4,000 train period. And I guess the other the other question I had is this replacing a program and is it align with the program? Because it's my understanding that we have a life skills program now in the house system. Is is that correct? >> I don't I don't think anybody on our staff has looked at the house system as a life skills curriculum. I I don't know that it's necessarily uh I think that it's culture building which pointed to your feeling that in your research
this is culture building not life skills. We're looking at this more as executive functioning job skills skills that we'd be looking for kids to learn in the community. >> I don't want to answer the committee though guys feel duplicative. >> Is it is it >> duplicative? Is that what I'm finally registering? But I don't think it's duplicative. I think it it teaches a completely another skill set. I mean, I think they they will complement each other well, but I would not call them duplicative. >> Does one of you want to reiterate the main life skills that the committee determined that they wanted to look for in a curriculum? pull that up. >> I know it was communication um ability to work well with others, >> but it's been a minute since we looked at that
list. see who it first um public speaking, open-mindedness, problem solving and critical thinking, conflict resolution, leadership, confidence and self-motivation, selflessness, self-reflection and self-correction. lots of selves in there and goal setting which we then felt leader and me checked most of those boxes for us and then we decided maybe we don't want to take on a whole new curriculum which Ernie Ernie's on the committee but you weren't there during that time when we dove into all that stuff and then with the meeting that you were at then we scratched the idea of you and me just thinking we don't want to take on another curriculum and the price for us to not maybe like it. So then we went back to the drawing boardish and decided that a book study with the seven habits would be
a good route since it's by Franklin Cubby and if we want to do leader me later it would flow. Yeah, it would flow right into that the following year with leader and me that does have an established curriculum. >> Is that a whole another set of books then? Yeah. >> I guess my concern is if this functions, you know, I totally support it, but I hate to see us invest a lot of money in something that's not really going to work what we got going on. >> Well, and here's a another point to consider wasn't brought up this meeting has been in the past is that right now you were asking what does this replace or overlap? Well, right now we're using what is called sources of strength and because you have to have someone
that has gone completely through that training in order to teach it in your school and Mrs. Elling Rod was that for us, >> right? >> So, because of her retirement, we are looking at a major training to maintain that program anyway. So we thought it was a good chance to go to the drawing board and say is this still working for us to the points that we want to send people through training or do we want to look at other options at this time? Does that make sense? >> Right. So this would be one of the other options that we're looking at over sources. Right. >> Right. Will you have to have a facilitate excuse me a facilitator for this new one also it's trained? The the intention of that training below is that all
staff would be trained and at a stage where all staff would be taken particip Our staff almost their entire job is lead it looks like one form or another. They're pretty good at it. >> So if I understand this right, we're talking about an investment of5 $6,000 for books in study. Is that correct? >> Yes, sir. >> I I feel a lot more comfortable with that than going 50k plus. That's something that may not functional things. I believe >> I believe that was the committee's failing why this is the recommendation rather than this. >> Any other questions, comments? Okay, I would entertain a motion to approve that. sources. >> That is for lack of a motion which would mean we revert back to our existing curriculum. sources requires that we train at least our elementary
teachers to utilize that to do that sometime in the near future. >> How much can I ask? How much is the training for sources for all six elementary teachers? >> It'll be somewhere between 10 and 20,000 >> all together. Okay. It'll be covered by SH. >> Okay, that item died from that motion. We will move on to skip. Uh so the next item would be to approve a contract with Franklin County for PD day um for staff, community, parents, anybody that wanted to attend around the seven habits entertaining motion. Seeing none, that item dies for lack of a motion as well. Next item is approval of personnel action report. >> I'll move to approve the personnel action report as recommended by the administration. >> Second. >> Sam has probably moved and Ernie has seconded to
approve the personnel action report as presented as was recommended by the administration. Uh are there any questions or discussion around topic within our reality? Seeing none, all in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Um that concludes our action items. Um, from the board, start with >> I would just like to thank everybody for all the hard work you're putting in. We're on the downhill slide and I know how busy everybody is now and I really appreciate all your work and um I would like to congratulate all the kids who went to Washington DC. It sounds like a wonderful, wonderful lifetime, one in a lifetime thing. and the FFA and the music. Just thank you for everything you're doing. Okay. Um I just started last month with um some celebrations I
wanted to make sure got recognized outside of just social media. Um Natalie Stole, congratulations for being our student of the semester. Um, Wyatt Holland um was named our statesman through the amazing shake and was awarded a full ride scholarship to Sher College. So, congratulations to him. Um, our students have gotten some awesome experiences in the last month with the Washington DC New York City trip. Um, the trip took Cody to the museum. U, music students went to a concert. Uh just lots of u enrichment the word uh and uh good luck to all the students and staff that are participating in year end things coming up this month. Um you know there's a lot of that going on right now. So um I think that was all. Hopefully I'm not missing something. Um, Trusty Miller,
you have anything from the board? >> Good. Thank you. >> Okay. >> Um, I guess one more thing I would like to thank our committees for all the work that you've done. >> Appreciate the effort, your time. >> Um, next item on the agenda is our May board meeting. >> Oh, sorry. I'm just sorry. Okay. is our May board May board meeting will be consolidated into one meeting on May 13th at 7 p.m. We will see that go out. Anything else? Okay, I would entertain a motion to adjourn. moves. All in favor, please act. Motion carries. Thank you all for coming. And the graduation the 17th. Am I correct on that?
