Mhm. >> Mhm. >> Welcome everyone to class of 2030 admissions lottery. My name is Brenda Richardson and I'm the assistant superintendent at Greater Lawrence Technical School. I want to begin by sharing that this process represents a significant change in how admissions are handled at GLTS. This lottery system is now required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for all career and technical school districts across the state. At Greater Lawrence Technical School, we serve the vibrant communities of Andover, Lawrence, Methuen, and North Andover. Because we have received more applications than available seats, we will use a lottery system that prioritizes residents of these four member communities. Today, we will conduct the lottery for the incoming ninth grade class. We will conduct a separate lottery for transfer applicants to grades 10 and 11 sometime this
summer. This year, we received 1,316 applications for 500 available seats at GLTS, reflecting the incredible interest in our school and programs. We truly appreciate every family who applied. At this time, I would like to ask our team members to introduce themselves and their roles. >> Hello. My name is Chuck Jackson. I'm principal here at GLTS. >> Hi, I'm Katie Hebert. I'm the director of admissions and counseling and health services at GLTS. And also off camera, we have one of our admissions specialist, Madison Puerto Real. >> Hi, my name is Doreen Lopes and I'm with Go 2 Solutions. We're an independent 30 third party assisting with the lottery today and off screen is Lou Lopes, also with Go 2 Solutions. >> Thank you. >> Before we begin, I will read the governing governing language from our
0032025-2026 admissions policy. Students interested in applying to Greater Lawrence School for fall admission to the ninth grade must have completed and submitted an electronic application through the GLTS website under the admissions page or submit a a paper application following the timeline stated below. The priority application deadline for grade nine was February 1st. Completed in-district applications received by this deadline have been entered into today's lottery. Applications received after February 1st are placed in a late application pool and will not be considered until the initial waitlist for that member community has been exhausted. GLTS uses an unweighted town apportionment system to ensure each sending community receives a fair allotment of seats based on enrollment guidelines. In accordance with DESE guidelines and our approved admissions policy, the admissions lottery is being conducted in a public place and reasonable
public notice has been given. Applicants' privacy during any public session will be maintained. The lottery will admit resident students before admitting any non-resident students. I will now explain the resident community seat allocation process. Beginning with the admission cycle for students entering in the fall of 2026, GLTS will implement a resident community seat allocation procedure. Under this procedure, the district school committee has established a local agreement governing the distribution of available seats. Each member community will be apportioned seats based on the previous year's enrollment data and its percentage share of the overall eighth grade population in the district based on member community data submission to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. GLTS will run a randomized unweighted lottery consistent with the seat allocation requirements of this local agreement. The town allocations and enrollment numbers, based
on a class size of 500 students, are as follows: Andover is 5% or 25 seats, Lawrence 65% 325 seats, Methuen 25% 125 seats, North Andover North Andover is 5% 25 seats. I will now turn it over to Doreen Louth from GoTo Solutions to describe the lottery number assignment and process. >> Great, thank you. Um we're excited to be here to assist with the lottery today. Um before we begin, I'm going to give you a brief overview of how the lottery works, how the lottery ID works, um and just give you a sense of what is going to happen uh for the remainder of the lottery. A total of 1,316 students have qualified for the this year's lottery. To ensure fairness, the computer will randomly shuffle all of the eligible students. To protect the student confidentiality,
you were assigned a lottery ID number. That lottery ID number is available in your application portal. During the lottery drawing, the computer will generate a four-digit number between 1,001 and 9,999. Every student will draw a number, and after all students have received a number, this will be sorted by community first, and then lottery number from lowest to highest within each community. And you'll be able to see those results. Again, this the lottery is an unweighted lottery with town apportionment. Each member community, Andover, Lawrence, Methuen, and North Andover is allocated seats based on its share of the district's student population. We'll hold one lottery for all applicants and each student receives one lottery pull. Again, seats are then offered to students within those communities. Students not initially offered seats will be placed on a waitlist. And
as openings occur throughout the spring and summer, seats will be offered from that waitlist based on the community and the original lottery pull order. So, let's begin. I'm going to ask Lou Lopes to share his screen and we'll describe what you'll be seeing on the screen. So, as you can see, we're going to retrieve the data and retrieving the data, you'll see the class of 2030. And we're retrieving students with the lottery ID number. Okay? Next, we're going to prepare the lottery and basically what the computer is doing is randomizing all 1,316 students before any numbers are drawn. So, this will eliminate any bias. Again, I mentioned earlier to ensure privacy, students will be identified by their lottery ID and you'll see that up here on the left-hand side of the middle of the screen.
So, you'll see it in a few minutes not to be confused. And then you will see pull numbers that will range between 1,001 and 9,999. So, now that we've prepared the lottery, I'm going to ask Lou to run the lottery and call out the first few numbers that appear, the lottery IDs that appear. >> Let's begin. Let's >> The first >> student is student 30113. >> Pulled number 2964. Second student, 301284, pulled 8926. We are going to speed this up a little. Again, after all numbers have been assigned, students will be sorted first by community and then by lottery number, lowest number first. If you do not see a lottery ID, >> ID, don't worry. When this When the >> lottery is finished and the results are certified, a PDF will be provided where you
can find your lottery ID and your number that you pulled and the order your order within within your community. Now that we have completed all 1316 students have chosen numbers, we'll order the results by lowest to highest by community. You can see, for example, from Andover, the students with the lowest number >> number >> student 301310 >> pulled 1277 >> And this is the second highest so forth. >> So this list should that will be shared with everyone is by community Andover then Lawrence lowest to highest followed by Methuen North Andover. All right, I will now export the PDF. I'll turn it back over to Greater Lawrence. >> Again, as stated, you will have access to this results. The quickest way for students and family to see the results of today's lottery will be to
log into your application portal. Uh we will be sending emails and updating statuses within the next hour. I'm going to turn back over to Greater Lawrence. Great. >> The results of tonight's lottery will be posted on the application portal shortly after the conclusion of today's lottery. Admissions results will also be posted on our GLTS Admissions website within 24 hours. Applicants and their parent guardian will receive an email with the lottery results sent to the email address provided on the student's application. A letter with the results will also be mailed to their home. For students who are offered admission, the same email will include instructions for it and a link to the online application portal where you can confirm your plans to attend GLTS this fall. Students will have 10 calendar days to accept their offer.
After accepting, you will receive guidance on the next steps including how to register for the fall term. If you need assistance accepting your offer or completing the registration process, please contact our admissions office. Our team is happy to assist you in any way that we can. Students who have been waitlisted will also receive email and a letter mailed to their home informing them of their status. The waitlist will remain active throughout the spring and summer, and if seats become available, we will contact applicants and their parent guardian directly. Thank you for joining us for the admissions lottery for the class of 2030 and for your interest in Greater Lawrence Technical School. We appreciate you tuning in. Have a
