Billy, can you hear me? Hi, Billy. Can you hear me? Hi, Brenda. Can you hear me? All right, Oscar, fix it. Billy, Brenda, can you hear me? Yes. All right, great. Yeah, now we can. Billy, how you feeling? I'm I'm doing well since I'm being supported here. Wow. And you got pretty support this time, huh? Good for you. Need your support. of the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. We have a moment of silence for our uh young men and women who are serving in the service. Please, especially our graduates. Thank you. Sue, can we have the roll call, please? Miss Ferris, Miss Dysla, present. Mr. Jones, present. Mr. Mahia, present. Mr. Tarbox, here. And Mr. Haydam, here. And Mr. Mercedes is not. Okay. Um

before we get started, I'd ask the superintendent if you would comment on this uh letter that everybody has in front of them. Uh this is the first I've seen of it also. Well, this is u put your mic on. So, this is just a letter that we received from the governor's office congratulating us on receiving a about $1.2 million grant to continue our work in career tech technical initiative and training um adults for uh who are either unemployed or undermployed for new careers. uh this will be round 10 of uh similar grants we've gotten in the past and so there's uh this summer I believe we're doing about six different programs. Uh so it's an allows us to continue our work over the next couple of years in training uh people within our community for

new careers. So, okay. Thank you, Oscar. Do I need this button? Yeah. Um, I'd like to bring your attention to the agenda. There is one item in red that just came in. It's a job posting. Um, Mr. Little Boy, why don't you explain that one for the co-op uh? So, we're looking forward to approve a co-op, a part-time just for the summer co-op. Uh, okay. Let's vote on it first. I just wanted to let them know what it was about. Okay. Um, can I have a motion to accept that to move it to the agenda? Move it uh onto the agenda. So, moved. Second. All those in favor say I. Opposed. Okay. Mr. Lion, now please. So, uh, because the co-op director is not able to work this summer, in order to continue the program

through the summer, we need to have somebody here working at the school in his role. I'm sorry. Um, you know, yeah, let's stay in auto. Oh, okay. We can come back to that. Sure. Let's do uh Miss Ditell had questions regarding the superintendent's evaluation. I don't know if anybody else did, but now is the time. Um, so did you want to address any questions regarding the superintendent's evaluation? Well, I asked for it was supposed to be last meeting, but it wasn't even It wasn't addressed. It wasn't addressed the last meeting because they weren't all in. Uh, actually, Sue, are they all in now? Okay. She's missing one. Okay. All right. I think yours is in. Yours is in yours. Okay. So, uh, they haven't been compiled yet, right? Do you have any other questions? She's

going to compile them and have them for the meeting. Actually, I think you can send them out before the meeting, right? You can send them to us. What have you compiled? Oh, no. I did I send him? Are you asking? How did you send them? You didn't have them? No, I just I have I haven't compiled them. So, I haven't sent a note to everyone else because I'm just waiting for one more. Isn't it due to go on the last of the month to Desi? I have to give it to Isabelle for before July 1st. She has to have it into Desessie by July 1st, which is next Tuesday, right? So I I will get in touch with him will be when we're going to review it before that date. Oh, before I thought that's

what I thought that's what we're going to do. Review it today. We can call another meeting or we can uh send them out to you so you can review them and have them for the next meeting. It's up to you. They're not ready. They're not ready. Mrs. Ferris, I guess I guess I'm I'm confused. What What are we What are we compiling? I mean, somebody explain it to me. All right. So we take everybody uh does does the evaluation and then Susan takes each standard and uh calculates the average for each standard to determine whether it's uh what rating it falls under. So she has to take all seven uh district members evaluation and score each one of those standards on there and then come up with and then come up with a final rating

as well. But each standard gets rated and then once she does that then she reports it out at the school committee meeting but she hasn't gotten them all yet. So she's not able to rate them. If if they're not all all in by the 30th of June then she'll rate whatever ones come in and then send that to the department give it to Isabelle and she'll send it into department of ed on July 1st. So it's so it's the ratings it's Yeah. So it's either exemplary proficient uh needs improvement or unsatisfactory. Okay. Any other questions regarding superintendent evaluations? Miss how to do this. Um, just so everybody so we all on the same page, we're supposed to review the evaluation in a in a meeting because this is a it's supposed to be a public

process. Okay. And we have not we have not done that. So that's part of the process where here when every everything is compiled and we bring it here to final approval. Okay. So that's what's that's what will be missing if we you know by by before 7 uh July 1st. So that's why we were going to do that today. Okay. So the in terms of the evaluation, it doesn't necessarily have to be in public before it's com before it's sent to Department of Ed. You can still do that after July 1st if you want, but it's not necessary that it it's done before uh it's calculated and sent in. But if after July 1st, if you still want to do whatever you want to do, it's still acceptable. You can still do that if the

committee wants to do that. Anybody else? All right, let's move on. Out of state travel. I believe this is for Isabelle. So, we have We have one request for out of state travel for Isabelle and Courtney to go to the uh Para School University for training and workshop in the fall. But in order to plan and uh uh and put in the uh the flights and the reservations for hotels and everything, they need to do that during the summer. And this is for the new uh uh software that we're using for student uh information system uh that we're uh putting into place starting in September. Any questions on the out ofstate travel? Can I get a motion, please, to accept the out ofstate travel for Isabelle and who's the other one? More I make a

motion to Courtney. Courtney. Motion to accept. I get a second. Any discussion? All those in favor? Opposed? You put the date in. I'm sorry, Mr. Mr. Tabox. Are you trying to cut in? I Oh, thank you. All right. Student handbook, Mr. Lavoy. So, uh brought the student handbook uh back to the committee uh with the recommendations of the school committee uh stating they didn't want any changes from present handbook. So, we will be keeping the same uh in terms of uniforms, the same language we had in the past in the handbook. The only change is in uh what we talked about last week where all career uniforms will consist of a black shirt, long sleeve t-shirt featuring the school's logo, name of specific career shops on the front. Matching sweatshirts will also be available. These

uniforms are to be worn during academic week and shop week. And then you have the uh there was a change in um student activities uh that um that will be going into the uh handbook. Nurse will not be present at any school sponsored event that takes place after school hours, weekend vacation. This includes but not limited to clubs, proms, volunteer activities. In the event of an emergency, the staff member present will call 911. Uh, and this is uh is a requirement. And then there's the student advisory council to add uh sky club and remove the anemy club and the comic book club. And uh in page 77, add athletic teams, add a girls flag football, boys and girls lacrosse on the spring sports. And the following academic policy below uh is the final uh changes

to the handbook. Um so a student must secure another uh must secure during the last marking period preceding the athletic contest a passing grade in full credit and shop may not fail more than one class. If the student fails more than one class including related or failed shop, he or she will be ineligible under the next marking period. Eligibility is in effect the day report cards are handed out. If a student is found to be academically ineligible and continues to play, each game that students that the student participates in will be counted as a forfeit. Incomplete grades may not be counted towards inelig ineligible eligibility until they are made up. Falling school policy. Appeals for violation of the academic policy can be made to the athletic director or principal. So, those are the only changes

in the handbook. Can I get a motion on the handbook, please? Go. Motion. I was going to do it in a discussion, but can we get a motion? Nothing else. Do you want to discuss it anyway? You're gonna have to push the button, please. Is that better? No. So, I have few questions. So, one about the uniform. I know that last time we also there was a question about the footwear. So is that something that's going to be included? This is this is the language that would be included that's in here. Okay, I understand. But it's not talking it's not saying anything about footwear. I think in the original. Yes. Yeah. The language on u as far as uniform is concerned uh anything that's regarding safety gear and all that will stay in the handbook.

This only references uh clothes clothing wear. So, huh. Yeah. So the question is I don't remember what was specific. We spoke about this last week. I know Mr. Mercedes made made the question very specific because the within the the the the rule or the policy for the uniform there was something about the footwear. So we want to make sure people are going to dress like this but can they what is the footwear that they're going to wear? You know what I mean? I mean is this the uniform and that includes you think you're talking about the shop? No shop but yeah generally because we what we don't want is a uniform and then flipflop or any type of shoes. You know what I mean? So it should be part something included where a footwear meaning

clothes, shoes, black, brown, something like that. That's that's part of I mean this is good. Yeah. But we want to make sure that the footwear for the uniform is included somehow. Yeah. Even if it's general. So the any changes beyond this uh in terms of the uniform uh will stay the same in the handbook um regarding footwear and everything uh just your safety footwear in the shops and in the academic weeks the typical whatever is allowed in uh in the handbook now will continue to be allowed. So there'll be no changes in terms of footwear in terms of what's allowed. Okay. I have other questions in other sections. So you can go ahead. I'll I'll come back. I'll come back. So um Miss Distler is going to defer her time to me and we'll go

back to Miss Dysller after. Okay. Here's What is the problem with this uniform policy? Why are we why are we changing it? So, let let me get it straight first. Let me ask a question. All four grades going to shop, they're wearing longer short black t-shirts with their logo. the the the opposite week they're going to wear the same exact thing. All four grades. Correct. So, what happened to leaving it alone? Well, when we talked about it last week, it seemed like that's something people were interested in. So if you would prefer to leave it alone and not even in have this part of the policy just vote it down and we'll go back to the drawing boards. This I mean I don't know why this is being this is so difficult. This is what

was in the handbook was acceptable to us. I know that some people did want the an actual uniform. I think we've gotten over that hump, but I don't understand why it can't remain in the handbook as written. There's a little box there and it says what's acceptable, not acceptable, and why it can't be enforced as is. Who who thinks this is going to work? You have June. I do. You do? Yes. We spoke about it last week. Where were you? I thought you were here, too. We were all We all agree that this this makes sense. He explained it to us very very clear. All right. And we all agree to that, including yourself. But this is perfect. It's going to work for everybody. I didn't think we took a vote and I didn't I

I again did not I did not agree to this. But if that's the will of the committee, I will go with it. But again, you're going to run into other things. I I I Okay. I mean, if Yeah. the superintendent and the principal, is that who came up with this? Is this this was a result of a conversation at the last meeting. All I'm going to say to this is that if the committee doesn't think it's a good idea, they don't have to vote yes on this. We can I like I said, we'll just go back and uh the next our when the uh when everybody's back, then we'll revisit and just keep it and moving forward. It'll just stay the same as we have have had all year. We won't make any changes. Honestly,

do you have the minutes of last week? because I I absolutely 150% did not vote on this. I did not. I I brought it up. I was concerned that we took what was in the handbook, gave it a really soft landing, massaged it a little bit, and came up with craziness that that has loopholes all through it. Uh an example was the footwear. Oh, footwear must be worn. Well, there's a million things that can, you know, qualify as footwear. So, I'm I I just I know I did not vote for this. I did not vote for this. I don't see it working especially. I don't see I see it working with the freshman and the sophomores. I don't see it working with juniors and seniors. Absolutely not. I don't. Freshman and sophomores, no problem at

all. Seamless. Juniors and seniors, I think you're gonna have a problem. And if that if you're up for the challenge, then go for it. I I am I'm not in favor of it. May I ask? I'm done. Yes. Just why it's not going to work now? I mean, again, this is for for one. This is a You asked me though. Yeah, I know. But this is as we spoke last week, this is as simple as it gets. Everybody's gonna wear the shop uniform, one color only. Mr. Lavoy explained it to us very very clearly. One color only. So there's no color port or um level or um how you call it the different um years. And it just makes sense because now no they don't have to worry about whether it's academy or shop the

um the shirt which is going to be one color only is going to have the the the the shop for each students written in one side is perfect. It cannot go wrong. So why you think it's going to go wrong? before when we discussed it before many weeks ago it was because they needed to switch from shop to academy and how you going to control that now you don't need to control that okay can I speak yes okay I just want to know why you she thinks that's going to happen well I I'll I'll answer I will because freshman we're not going to don't worry we're not um freshman and sophomores, it makes great sense for it to be like this. Some of the sophomores are I mean the the the weeks merge. So I

get it. Freshman and sophomores, it will work. Juniors and seniors, you have they're older. I'm all for I'm all for choice and I'm all for they're getting ready in their career area. They can't I mean I don't see how they're going to go 10 days straight. Well, I mean, how many shirts are they going to have? They're going from shop. I don't know what shop they're in. Say they're in automotive. They're in automotive. They got grease all over and everything else. They're going to wear that. I mean, what are we achieving if we're not showing them? I mean, you're not even saying, "Gee, those shirts have to be clean or they have they're ripped." To be honest, you're not making any sense. You just don't want you want to go your way. This is going

to work and you know it. And right now, you don't you don't even you're No, I You're right. You're right. Because I do believe it'll work with freshman and sophomores. I don't believe it'll work for juniors and seniors. You're not teaching them anything either. Yeah. Yeah. Uh well, the one color for everyone. I understood that after you said you get stuck with a certain amount of t-shirts with random colors. So, I understand the logistics of that. I think once they're used to it, they're just this this is where I am. This is what I'm supposed to wear and that's the end of it. And as far as the shoes, um I remember from the handbook that it said no open toed shoes. And part of that conversation stem, I guess a teacher had open to

shoes and a student wanted to wear them. And it that got confusing very very in the beginning of uniform discussions. But basically, I guess the dress code says no open to shoes. Okay. Which I guess covers sandals and flip flops and everything else. But I don't know what else it would have other than, you know, if you're in the medical field, it's usually a particular type of shoe that's, you know, skid resistant and usually white or whatever. The shops are always usually work shoes. Boots. So, set. Yep. All set. All right. I'll ask I'll ask again. We'll try a motion again. Can I have a motion to approve uh student handbook? Please. Couple more questions. Um I know that it says in the event of emergency. So there not going to be in any event.

So you put the mic on please. I'm sorry. Okay. So there's not going to be a Norse in event. Now my question is the staff that are going to be in different events um before are they going are they going to be certified first aid CPR? It should be at least a person because calling 911 it's it's fine. I understand. But when you have event and you have a crowd of people there's always I mean first aid will save life is my point. So we want to make sure that any event that we are running that a person is certified to do CPR first CPR and you know again we don't want anything to happen but in the event that something happened it's very important that person knows first aid that is in the crowd.

Well sporting is that possible? Well at sporting events uh we have a trainer there. We have what a trainer. So, and they are certified. Yeah. Firstly, that's all I want to make sure. Yeah. Okay. And then my all the question is um in the last paragraph because it says if students is found to be academically ineligible and continue to play each game that student participate it will be counted as a foreat. So my question is that means that the student is totally responsible to know whether he's supposed he she's supposed to play or not. should shouldn't be the person either running the sport or the person I don't know somebody that is running the program should be the one that knows when the students I mean it should be a coordination a combination but I

the way I read this is as if the student is completely responsible to know that they cannot play yeah that's the responsibility of the coach to make sure that the all kids have are eligible to play so am I reading this wrong No, the the if the student is ineligible to play, the coach has to make sure that that student doesn't participate and they communicate with the uh guidance department all the time to make sure the students are passing, particularly after each quarter when the grades close. Yep. So, I might Okay, thank you. I'm good. Just just It's on um just so that we understand. I mean, unfortunately, I am in favor of this. For the record, there has never been a nurse that was required to attend functions here at the school. Um, so

that's just for the record. And the second thing is the next time I visit the school next year, I'm not coming when the student body is here because they'll all be in black. I don't see that it teaches kids anything and I don't see that it teaches the adults anything either. It gives them a way out. Why? They need to be able to enforce what they wrote. So we can go ahead with this vote. I am not going to vote for it. this I hope everybody understands what what the the vision is for the school and I and you know cuz I mean all right I don't see it I don't see it as being a positive thing just yes motion motion uh to approve the handbook Please motion to approve. Do I have a

second? Second. Any further discussion? I'll call the roll call soon, please. Mr. Tabox. No. Miss Ferris. No. Miss Distler, yes. Mr. Jones, yes. Mr. Mahia, abstain. And Mr. Haydam, yes. Motion passes. One, two, three. Yes. Job posting, Mr. uh Lavoy, please. We have one. We have one job posting. uh because uh the uh co-op director is not available to work this summer, we uh have posted it for someone who is uh uh working on their license. We uh or somebody that may have the license um to uh take his place for the summer. It's needed we need to have someone in in that position during the summer because we have students that are on co-op. We can't have students on co-op unless we have a co-op director that's uh working during the summer. so that

students and employers can co contact that individual and also work towards placing other students. So, we're looking to post uh just a summer uh position for uh July and August to have someone in that role and it's u it's a liaison. It's a co-op education summer liaison. So, this is just two months, Mr. Le. That's it. Just two months. Is there an hourly limit or just uh it's approximately 15 hours I mean two days a week. Can I get a motion to approve the uh job posting? So move. Is there a second? Second. Any further discussion? All those in favor say I please. I I opposed. I opposed. Are you doing both? Billy over here. I said I. Okay. Um at this time I'd like to go into executive session please. We have uh personnel

matters and contract negotiations. All right, Mr. Sure. You want to do it here? No one. We're going to I think Oscar has us set up to go over the other side. Oh, okay. Oscar, is that right? to vote on executive session. Yes. All those in favor? I post. Thank you. Uh so the chair has recused himself. Um the vice chair takes the role as uh acting chairman for the meeting. Do we have a motion to return to open session? Motion made by Miss Ferris. Is there a second? seconded by Mr. Mercedes. All those in favor I I I have uh Miss Ferris. Okay. Make a motion to accept or approve the teachers contract. Is there a second? Seconded by Mr. guitar box. Uh, roll call. Mr. Jones. Yes. I had to put you last now.

U Mr. Mercedes. Yes. Mr. Tarbox. Yes. Miss Ferris. Yes. Miss Distler. Yes. Mr. Mr. Haydam say yes and Mr. Mahia yes motion passes. Uh Miss Ferris make a motion to accept the or approve the maps contract. Is there a second? Second. Uh seconded by Mr. Mercedes. Uh roll call vote. Miss Dla. Yes. Mr. Jones. Yes. Mr. Mercedes. Yes. Mr. Tarbox, yes. Miss Ferris, yes. Mr. Haydam, is he? Yes. And Mr. Mahia? Yes. Motion passes. And I have one more. Uh, Mr. Jones. Yes. I'd like to make a motion to buy back vacation time for the IT department. Motion made by Mr. Jones. Is there a second? Second. Seconded by Miss Ferris. A roll call vote. Miss Ferris. Yes. Miss Tla. No. Mr. Jones. Yes. Mr. Mercedes. Yes. Mr. Tabox. Yes. Mr. Haydam. Yes. And Mr.

Mahia. Yes. Motion passes. basically just Are there any other new for new business? Oh, John. Yes, Mr. Jones. Yes. I'd like to make a motion uh to buy back 10 days of sick time for the superintendent. Motion made by Mr. Jones. Is there a second? Second. Seconded by Miss Ferris. Roll call vote. Mr. Tabox. Yes, Miss Ferris. Yes, Miss Dla. No, Mr. Jones. Yes, Mr. Mercedes. Abstain. Mr. Haydom was a yes. And Mr. Mahia. Yes. Motion passes. That's it. Is there any other items? about vacation by Lance and Mr. Jones. Yes. I'd like to make a motion uh for the non-reps uh to buy back vacation time. No, it's for MASPA. I'm sorry. The MASPA uh to buy back their vacation time one time. Motion made by Mr. Jones. Is there a second? Second. Seconded

by Miss Ferris. Roll call vote. Mr. Mercedes. Discussion. I want Mr. Mercedes. Is no discussion in this one? Um, this discussion was this this was discussed in executive session. No, cannot be discussed. I don't I don't know. I'm going to vote on that. You could ask clarifying questions. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you could ask clarifying questions. I want to know I'm sorry. I I I I came in late, so I I I don't want to vote yes on something. I don't know what I'm voting yes for. So, I wanted to hear why why we are allowing them to buy it. Why is there a reason why they didn't use it? Um so the reason uh it's been requested um well first was uh started with Lance Hamill who was uh the uh director of facilities who

had to work uh many days because of all the projects going on wasn't able to take all his time and then um there were other administrators who had a few days on the books beyond the five days that they can carry. So we have to be consistent. So, it was a total of altogether about 20 days uh be able to buy back vacation time because they weren't able to it's a one-time it was agreed that it's a one-time thing and there'll be language that uh uh in uh given that uh it's not precedent setting that they won't be able to do it again. This is the one and only year. All right. I guess I will vote yes for as long as uh it is the only one year we can do that. Are there

any other questions on this? Hearing none, I'm going to move for a roll call vote. Mr. Yes. Okay. Mr. Tarbox, yes. Yes. Miss Ferris, yes. Miss Dler, no. Mr. Jones, yes. Mr. Haydam, is a yes. And Mr. Mahia I abstain from the vote. Are there any other matters for discussion or new business? Uh hearing none. Uh can I have a motion to adjurnn? Make a motion to adjurnn. Second. There's a motion to adjurnn made by Mr. Jones and seconded by Mr. Mercedes. All those in favor say I. I. The eyes have it. Thank
