Heat. Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hey, hey, hey. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Good evening and welcome to the Greenfield Public public school special [music] school committee meeting, our organizational meeting that we have every single year. It is Thursday, January 8th, 2026 [music] at 6:30 p.m. in the John's on. We're calling this meeting to order at 6:30. This meeting is being recorded by Greenfield Community Television. If any other persons present are doing the same, you must notify the chairperson at this time. Anthony from the recorder is recording. All right. Thank you, Anthony. Um, let us do a roll call. State member ston, are you willing to do roll call? >> Okay. >> Member Deniv, >> I am here. >> I member ston, I am here. >>

Member child >> here. >> Member Goodwin >> here. >> Member Dorger >> here. >> Member Webb >> here. >> Member Dyman >> here. >> All right. Great. All right. Our first order of business is public comment. Is there anyone here to give public comment in the room? Going once, going twice. Okay. Is there anybody on Zoom for public comment? >> Zoom that I am not seeing. >> Raise a hand. If you're on Zoom and you wish to make public comment, please raise your hand or put something in the chat. We'll give you a minute. See anybody? >> Just saying. >> Okay. He's just saying he's just watching. >> Okay. Last chance for public comment. Okay. No public comment. All right. We're going to move on to nomination of school committee chairperson. Item four. I'd like

to take a point of privilege since this is the fifth one of these reorganizational meetings that I have done. Um, I would just like to ask that we set an intention to invite harmony and collaboration because we may all have different views, but we are here for each other, the staff, the students, and our school community. So, proceeding to item four, nomination of school committee chairperson. I'd like to have a motion to suspend Robert's rules of order in order to enter a working session. So >> moved. >> Second. So uh motion from child, second from Goodwin. Any discussion? All in favor say I. >> I. >> Any abstensions? Any nays. Okay. Passes unanimously. I'm an I. I didn't say I, but I am an I. >> All right. So, we've suspended Robert's rules of order

and we can now have a informal discussion. Does anyone have a nomination for chair? >> I have a nomination. I would like to nominate member Ston. Uh they have a lot of great institutional knowledge and very good at listening to people and facilitating things. So I think member ston would do an excellent job. >> Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Okay. Any discussion? >> Mayor, you look like you're about to speak. >> I concur. That's all. Okay. >> Anybody else? Okay. I would just like to say that I continue to be available to apply my best energy to this committee, but the committee plans have changed and so I will be voting no tonight. Are we ready to take a vote or further discussion? Everyone seems ready. All right. I'll call the role

if you're okay with that, Member Ston, since you are the nominee. All right. Um I'm a no. Member Ston, >> yes. >> Member Childs, >> yes. >> Member Goodwin, >> yes. >> Mayor, >> yes. >> Member Webb, >> yes. >> Member Diamond, >> yes. >> All right. And it passes with one no. Congratulations, Chair Ston. The meeting is now yours. Would you like to be called member McKenzie Webb or member Webb? Which would you prefer? >> All right. Just thought I'd ask. >> All right. I just wanted to check as we go forward into the future. All right. The meeting is yours. >> Thank you. Um that vote and I am interested in harmony and collaboration in mind and harmony and collaboration in mind and also a focus on key priorities for our district and

really making progress on simplified priorities and doing them well and with a lot of intention and integrity. Um so thank you for that. Uh moving forward I think we'll continue in the suspended Roberts rules. Um, we need to I'm looking for a nomination for a vice chair. Member Goodwin, you have a nomination. >> Yes. I'd like to nominate Ann or member Childs. >> Um, she has always been um a good listener. Um, and I love her research skills. Um, when given a task, she goes above and beyond to find out the answers um, despite whatever is in her way. And so I really appreciate that. >> Second. >> Okay. Any discussion? Seeing none, uh we'll go ahead and move to a vote. All in favor of an child's for vice chair say I. I. >>

Any nos? >> Abstension. >> Okay, one abstension. The motion passes. just Okay, thank you. Um, and now a motion for secretary. >> Okay, >> I nominate Timber for secretary. >> Okay. Is there a second for that nomination? Okay. Any discussion? >> I guess I just have a question more of what it entails besides what you're doing at the moment because we do not have our here. >> Right. So basically recording key moments uh like when we made the vote to enter into like suspending Robert's rules, noting who makes the motion, who seconds the motion, key points of discussion. We don't need to know exactly who said what. But basic like if someone makes one key point and someone else makes another key point, >> if the recording secretary is not here or in general, >>

the rules technically stipulate that you only have to do it if the recording secretary is not here. However, it is good practice to have multiple corroborating sets of notes. Um, and so I think it would be good habit just to be able to help us track as well. You would also be responsible for calling roll call votes. Um, being essentially our parliamentarian, you would get a lovely set of pieces of information about Robert's rules, Mass General laws related to school committee and education function, etc., and be required to bring those with you um at every meeting. I want to just be clear. Are you accepting this nomination? >> Okay. Um Okay. Any further discussion? Yes. >> The secretary also handles several other duties. The secretary handles any open meeting law changes from the um attorney

general's office. They also um maintain any additional policies that come from MASC. So there are additional duties to be done by the secretary and that is listed in your handbook. Yeah, thank you for providing that. Member Den has done an excellent job this past year as the secretary. Two years. Member Geneva has done an excellent job for the past two years as secretary. Um, >> if I have any questions, you'll be willing to help me with that. >> Hope so. Okay. Any other pieces of discussion? All right. Seeing none, are we ready for a vote? Great. All in favor of web as secretary say I. >> I. >> Any abstensions? I >> think I'll abstain just for lack of information. >> Okay. >> I abstain. >> Okay. Um any nos? Hearing none. It passes with

two abstensions. Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Um that takes care of our formal uh responsibilities for this meeting. I would look for a motion to adjurnn. >> So moved. Any second? >> Second. >> All right. Any discussion? All in favor? I >> I. Any abstensions? No. Any knows? No. Thank you all and good night. >> [music] [music]
