to be watch. It's vintage and it's probably going to be um worth something in another hundred years. >> [snorts] >> Are you cam? >> No. Haven't been there yet. >> You haven't been there yet? [laughter] Nope. >> Why is it not raining on your street but raining on his or vice versa? >> Feicious. >> You need really heavy rain. >> Any real heavy rain? I got the new driveway and I >> washed out. Pretty good, too. Heaviest rain was uh >> saw the car in the ditch uh facing backwards off I90. A lot of hydroplaning >> caught something spot out. >> He's lost weight since he started this new career. >> Had a long day then. >> Yeah. Can't really >> what it is. Is what it is. Yeah. Pretty much about it. going a

little later on a school board night or something like that. >> Going at 8. >> Did you say I don't think had a lot of this last night with the wonderful weather. We're having >> cat is here. >> Yeah. >> Give uh my kid another excuse for not mowing the lawn today. >> Sorry, I can't mow the lawn today. >> Mom, >> oh yeah, you get out there. >> That's my [laughter] daughter. I was like, she's like, "Well, I don't want to." She's like, "I don't want to get sick." I'm like, "You're not sick." >> Yeah. >> I suck. Yeah. I was like, "You're not that sweet. You're not going to melt." >> Made of sugar. >> Oh, yeah. We're good. It's >> fifth time. >> First time I've been hitting my entire career. So,

>> it's all good. >> My phone All >> [sighs] [snorts] >> right. Well, it's 6:30, folks. Let's call this meeting to order. >> All right. Pledge of Allegiance. [clears throat] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Roll call. Scotty. >> Sarah. >> Yes. >> Oh, did you say Sarah? >> I did say Sarah. That's [laughter] okay. Why are you calling my name? >> Harold, >> yes. >> Cara, >> yes. >> Uh, Adam, >> here. >> Cameron, >> yes. >> Cindy, >> yes. >> Debb, >> yes. >> Todd, >> yes. >> And I am here. >> And proof of public notice. >> Okay. 004School District is learning for all, learning for life. And item six, our consent agenda. We need approval minutes and the financial report from the curriculum of the whole and the personnel updates. We have coaches few other. >> Yeah. So I take a motion for the to approve the consent agenda. >> Second by Cindy. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Carries. Um item seven, public comments. Looks like we have none. Item eight, correspondence. All right, this is going to this might break our record here. Item nine, staff and student recognition. Um, I have a couple. Um, hats off to all the schools. I attended a couple open houses. [clears throat] Um, and just the energy and just seeing the excitement in the schools. Um, I'd like to compliment Sandra Ziggler, I believe

it is, at Bus Garage. um she again had buses at um the elementary schools um welcoming the kids to how to get on and get off the school bus. So making that transition a lot easier. And then it's homecoming week. So anybody else? >> Um I wanted to do a shout out to uh Sam RDE. He wears a lot of hats in the district, but one that maybe people don't realize is how much opening of the building he does for people. um which I witnessed a lot uh over the week as [laughter] as we are doing uh as uh we're having um rehearsals in the performing arts center and there's a lot of youth like youth activities, youth sports going on and there's been doing a lot of opening of buildings and stuff for our

youth sports things and um he he does a lot of things I think that we don't all know that he does. So >> the key [laughter] That's what happens, right? >> All right. Anybody else? All right. Well, on to item number 10, administrative reports. We have our September admin reports. We'll start out with cat, our technology update. [laughter] forewarning you my slides are not that interesting. [laughter] It's a little shy there. It's a little lazy. [snorts] I might have to do this. presentation. >> Oh, you already got it. Oh, perfect. Okay, >> we're good. >> So, I just want to take some time and go over some tech updates, uh, projects that we worked on this summer. Uh >> thank you for joining. So summer is usually our busy time. Uh no one's here so

we take advantage of doing the complicated difficult tasks or the impossible ones that we couldn't do during the school year. Um this summer was particularly busy. Uh we had several major system uh migrations. We had several projects going on all at the same time. Um, alongside all of the normal stuff that happens when we're trying to get ready for the school year. Um, so I'm not going to go through uh everything absolutely everything that we did. I just want to highlight some of the bigger projects uh that we worked on. Um, so kind of the the probably the biggest one that we accomplished this summer, uh, and really it started last fall was our migration from Power School to Infinite Campus. Um, I really want to kind of emphasize the size of this project because

sometimes from the outside it can kind of look like we just went from one system to another system but in reality our student information system is the core that connects a whole bunch of other stuff. So ultimately in this transition, you know, things like student accounts, uh, assessment platforms, learning platforms, food service, uh, and probably about 40 or 50 other systems were affected by just as much. Um, so that's kind of the the big part as to why this was such an enormous task. Um, we had to migrate our data out of P school. Um, we're still doing some like little onesie two days things here and there. Um, but we had to train all of our staff. We had to configure Infinite Campus to how we operate because they give you kind of a

base, right? But then we we uh manipulate it for us. Um, then we rebuild all of our systems and integrations. We have to test those, make sure they're working correctly and data is flowing not only to those other systems but also to the state. Um, and then of course like troubleshooting like what are the differences between what we had and what we got now. Um, speaking of training, we are still learning Infinite Campus. It is a massive system. Um, we're discovering cool new things about it, things that we didn't have before. Uh, refining our internal processes. I mean, really just trying to make things better for us long term. Um the other major system migration that we had was cl or clever to class link. So class link is our new identity management and single

sign on platform. So the reason why we took on that uh as well as infinite campus infinite campus meant that we're going to have to make a change anyway. So with that type of systems we thought well okay might as well go with the one that we want because us more security controls, more automation, just kind of a better more secure overall ecosystem. Um, so that that's our huge system migrations. If a campus, we're still going to be refining. It's going to take a while. Like it's not just a one and done. We know we're going to have to fix things. We know we're still going to have uh you got my slides. My next slide is one of our several major hardware uh implementations. So we this summer replaced our entire iPad fleet. Uh

we had old iPads, we got all brand new iPads, which uh let me tell you, we prepared, we configured, uh organized, and deployed a very large number of them before school. So, I'm very proud of my team and all the effort that went into that. Um, one really nice thing that we we changed this summer is we changed our iPad uh insurance program a little bit. So, we did increase the cost uh a little bit to individuals and to families, but because of that we can fully cover the case and accessories. Um, prior the the case itself um was not covered. Uh, and it still technically is not covered under insurance. We have to pay out of pocket for a whole new one if they do damage. But by raising the cost a little bit,

we're able to cover that for everybody. Um, so it is I consider that a um another I'm looking at this uh PA system. So we did a couple of these at different schools last year, but over the summer at Gailsville, we did rewire and uh install a new PA amplifier in the building. So that should give us uh some better opportunity in the future for expansion and changes. Uh my next slide, cyber security still a priority in the district. Uh I've got a huge number there we'll get to in a second. So over the summer, we strengthened our email security uh to help prevent email spoofing. And spoofing is when someone tries to pretend to be us and send an email that looks like it's coming from our email addresses, but it really isn't. So

after we fully implemented all the settings and systems, uh we're currently seeing about 600 of these get uh denied a day. So the volume was kind of astounding. Um, and what that tells me is it's it's just a reminder uh why cyber security is so important for school districts because that number tells me we're still a highly targeted organization. And we are, you know, PPI and the the state cyber security uh response team are always telling us, you know, schools are one of the most uh highly targeted organizations in the state. There there's several each week that are getting compromised. Um, so, uh, the other thing we're continuing to do on here, uh, and I think I brought this up the last time we talked was Sentinel One. So, we're continuing that deployment throughout our

district. So, we will have Sentinel One on all of our devices, which allows us to more quickly react to threats and things like that. Uh, next slide. So printing uh this is our last big hardware thing. So we refreshed all of our printers over the summer and implemented a new secure printing system called follow me printing. Uh follow me printing is a little bit different than before. So before someone would print and they'd pop out at a printer that they chose. Uh secure printing means that someone prints to a queue and then they have to physically authenticate on a printer to release their print. This has a couple of benefits. Uh one, confidential documents aren't just hanging out on a printer unattended, right? Somebody grab something there. Uh two, this should also help us reduce

waste in the district. So, I don't know about you, but I have many a time printed the wrong thing. I have either misspelled something or I just straight up printed the wrong document. The neat thing with follow me printing is I don't have to release that print. I can just delete it out of the queue or ignore it and think it was okay. Um the other nice thing about follow me printing is it gives our staff more flexibility. Uh so one of the things we did is we did um deploy color printers more strategically throughout the district. But with follow me printing if I wanted to say print something from here I could drive down to Tremble and and get my print if I really wanted. So someone could go and release a print at

any printer they have physical access to. They're not relegated to just the one in the work. [clears throat] Uh next thing here we partnered with food service on a number of projects over the summer. Uh first up is we helped them implement something called healthy grow uh which is their meal planning and uh nutritional compliance system. I believe they also do a lot of their reporting in there now uh for end users, student staff, everybody in the community. This is where you can go and and find out what's being served and day. So, it's got a lot of really nice backend stuff, but for everyday use, um, this is where all of our our uh meal plans are going. Uh, we also deployed new point of sales uh in all the school cafeterias. So, that

was in conjunction with Infinite Campus. Uh, speaking which, we also implemented their online payment system, which is super nice. So before you can make some payments here, you can make payments for other things there. With Infinite Campus, our families can now go to one place and pay for food service. They can pay for fees such as like iPad insurance, athletic fees, uh AP test fees all in one spot versus having to go multiple places. Um so that I think has been a huge win for us. We're seeing a lot of families take advantage of that. I take advantage of that. Sometimes I forget how many bubblers I buy in alocart [clears throat] and then I get a bill at the end of the year. So now I just set it up when I get to

five bucks. Nice. Now my last slide. Uh these are just a couple of things that we're working on right now. Um both really have to do with cyber security. So first is we're migrating Wi-Fi authentication to a more modern robust enterprise solution versus what we have now. Uh part of the reason for that is what we're seeing over time is the number of devices and variety of devices that connect to our network is only one. So we want to really make sure we know what is connecting and that things are connecting reliably and securely to the network. Uh the other thing is we will be continually working um and I don't think this will ever stop, but we're we're going to continue working with staff, students, and families. Um we're planning a bunch of events,

but working with them on knowledge about cyber security and hyper, you know, great hygiene with cyber, you know, all that good stuff. Um we know that one of the best uh defenses for cyber security are knowledgeable people. So that is one thing that we will continue to do. Uh that's it. That's my real short quick here's my projects. We had a bunch of really you know smaller projects and little to stuff that we did but I really just wanted to highlight stuff. >> Any questions? I have a two-part question. One, how safe and secure is the difference between PowerPoint and Infinite Campus? >> And then second question is um for the um the uh online payment integration. >> Yeah. >> How safe is like the um families and students um uh banking information, household information,

that kind of stuff? So I'll address a second because I know that off the top of my head. So online payments through infinite campus are handled through Stripe. Um Stripe has a number of technologies encryption uh for data and how it transmits over the internet also lives with them. So on the back end of that whole system it's using so we know how that works. As far as comparing Power School to Infinite Campus, that's a lot harder. Um, I can tell you at the time like Power School when we were using it, they had a number of vulnerabilities, um, which allowed, you know, the cyber attack to happen. >> Um, my understanding is they have gotten better. Um but they most companies don't disclose in too much detail like what they're using specifically. They'll they'll

um tell you strategies and they will tell you they are um certified sock which is like a security certification with infinite campus. They are they have several certifications which tells me that they have met the pretty rigorous terms that these certifications have put forth in terms of protecting our data where it lives with them protecting the physical locations of where our data lives with them um to protecting how our data isn't trans transmitted internet. So I can get you um a more complete a list of what that might look like um in terms of what they are needing to sorry they have been around for a long time now. Um, power school also has been, but they have been the the biggest difference. Infinite campus was built and owned by the teacher and it has

not been sold that has been infinite campus but then left. How school on the other hand went through Apple and Pearson venture capitalist firm bought them. So they have migrated around for a while. >> Okay. >> So is our school is that now phased out? >> Uh we will have it through the end of December so that we are comp December is what locks in last school year. >> Thank you. You're welcome. on to item B, summer school. >> I am operating just on that infographic that you I see a couple of you already kind of split and started looking at. Um, so just reflecting on the summer schools program for 2026, you can see our overall participation was a 79 FTE. That's slightly down from last year with a 87 FT, but still above

that 2024 participation at 75. So hopefully those numbers come back up for us in the 2027 summer school program, but we did maintain our summer school offerings that we had expanded in 2025 and actually even had a couple new additions as well. Uh, a couple of the highlights from this last year. I think the number one highlight that I want to point out because it was definitely a team effort on this side was our jump start to 4K program. So, we had previously had a jump start to kindergarten program, but with the addition of our all day 4K, we decided that adding a jump start to 4K probably was fitting heading into our second year of that program. Um, this was a great opportunity for our staff to collaborate across the district. we all came

to Gailsville Elementary, the support staff, the 4K teachers were all there. That served as a great opportunity for them to start building relationships with our incoming Red Hawks. Um, and then we actually were able to build class lists for this upcoming school year on what we were seeing in that to just kind of um better balance our classes. I think I can speak for our elementary admin team that we definitely wouldn't have built our class list the same way last year had we known our students better. So, this is just a great way for us to get students in the door and to build that sense of community across the district. We also increased our speed and strength programs. Mandy Scow um started to specialize, this was kind of something that Jamie Oliver advocated for

um was getting her she has great relationships with our female athletes and we had 72 female participants across the summer participating in that program with her and it was it was incredible. Um I think they had developed a sense of community to amongst them are um some of our coaches at the high school level were also coming in to support that work as well. So that was uh really nice to see. We also continued our high school ESY partnership. Um so our uh Nicole RDE who runs our high school ESY partnered with us so that they could get um that inclus inclusive model represented as well our skills week. So reflecting back to June, we had 63 students participating in our skills classes, which was still up from uh 17 students back in 2024. So

maintaining that number was pretty impressive and just a true testament to the communication that our classroom teachers are having uh as we end our spring kind of portion of our school year and head into that summer programming. Uh, another thing is looking ahead, our hunter safety and babysitting classes both were weight listed this year where we had students that weren't able to participate in the program just because we have to cap those numbers due to our numbers of instructors. So, Hunter Safety has to operate on a 10 to1 ratio. We were able to have 30 students in that. It would be great to be able to offer that to more students in the future. Same thing with our babysitting classes. Um, Steemit Explores was that Mr. Mark Bowers, our high school teacher, offered. That's another

one that just it always caps out. And so, just trying to find ways where we can optimize on those interests for our students would be great headed into our 2027 year. So, just things that we're thinking about. And the last thing, we had 71 students participating in a summer golf program with uh John Bergam. >> And so, just a major shout out to our community golf courses to that allow that to to happen. It was hosted at the Temple Mountain Golf Course and the Edra Golf Course. They're extremely accommodating, extremely flexible with us. The students love this program so much that they were asking if he could extend it into August and he agreed and the golf courses also allowed that to happen. So, I think that's a huge testament to the work that he's

doing with that program. >> Any questions? >> John Bot, he also has help. So yeah, >> it's not just one person [laughter] know >> there is a lot of help. He just kind of takes the lead on coordinating all of it. So but hats off to him because he's been working with that program for years now. >> I don't know if there's any possibility, but you know for with their um hunter safety program, you know, maybe contacts can be made there to maybe get some additional instructors. >> Yeah, definitely. I mean, I think any of that community outreach would be best. >> Thank you. >> On to item 12, new business. A couple things here. Girls swimming and diving cooperative approval. >> You want to take Can you speak to the cooperative? So, I'm Jay

Turner. I'm the new activities director and associate principal. We are looking to re-up our cooperative with Homeman. Homeman is the host school of girls swimming. Uh, last year the we have about we have five swimmers involved in that cooperative. Last year the bill was about $650 per swimmer. Um the school district policy coming in this year would have been that the school district will pay the first $475. Families would cover the rest up to a,000 and then the family would then take over after,000. So I believe last year also that ended up being about 2,500. That was >> [clears throat] >> Um, >> any questions for >> is it club team swim or is this a high school coach? >> High school WIA sanction co-op. >> There's also boys. >> Yes. In the spring. >>

No. This would be the the rotation to reop the cooperative with girls. >> Any other questions? >> No other questions. Oh, go ahead. >> When did we establish the caps on those programs? >> That is a great question that I do not know the answer to. When I came into the job, this was the policies that I saw that were written. So, but it is a question that everybody >> Yeah, it was it was probably four or five years ago. >> I guess my question is I mean we don't have caps on other sports. You know, we have sports complexes, sports fields, gymnasiums for every other sport. >> I think it came about because of hockey. >> Because of hockey and how expensive hockey got. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. >> Yeah. Um when

I was we Gymnastics was going to school on certain things just because it cost break it down a hockey switch years ago because it got so expensive that week after a certain fee parent the next >> maximum out of pocket for any family. >> We actually have parents show up at a board meeting because they got their bill and said this is $4,000 before the policy. >> It's probably hockey. >> Yeah. Yeah. with a hockey group >> and they added I think brand new uniforms every >> that's one of the hard things when you have the co-ops you have like an expensive rotation all those things >> are incredibly expensive [sighs] >> other questions I would take a motion to approve the girls swimming and diving co-op for approval for The recommended approval for renewal

of cooperative with the homeman and acquaintance for girls swim and diving team. >> Motion by city. Second. Any discussion. >> All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Opposed. >> Motion carries. Item B, overnight trips for 2627. We're looking for requests for approval in accordance with policy 2340 district sponsored trips and we have a list of pretty good list trips there last year maybe a few slight changes but this is our board policy that they're required to submit these approved and then if anything should change if there's something added then they would come forward with an individual request. But this way we kind of knock them all out at once. Those that are already >> is cost. >> So it's it's it's either a part of something that's um through their boosters or

um you know most of these are or that the student have there's a club that's making money to help pay for it. some of it the district does pick up. Carrie, if you want to get into nitty-gritty on that. >> Yeah. Um, for the clubs, uh, will we look at up through state? Um, as state, national, it's 100% funded by not through the school. Um, it's either it's either, uh, parents just pick up the tab or they reinstall it. Not I would take a motion to request for approval in accordance with policy 2340 district sponsored sponsored trips. >> Motion by Cara by Cindy. Any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I opposed. Motion carries. Uh committee reports. I don't think we just had our committee the whole last week. Um I

know you want to >> So when we review the dates, we've got those um referendum listening sessions on there. We wanted to talk about the timeline. >> Well, I'm thinking maybe with Deb here, maybe just kind of talk about the timeline real quick. >> All right. Um so at the committee of the whole poll, and you guys can correct me if I'm wrong here. um headed in my email to all of you if this >> uh that um we will start with a um sorry I was just looking for it because I don't want to mess something up but that's okay you can correct me um we are going to be um developing the survey and a postcard that's going to go out to the whole public that will um all happen within the next

two weeks the postcard will inform the public um that we're going to have two listening sessions coming up and it'll give them a link to a survey that any anybody can participate in and it's all to garner feedback so that the board has as much information as possible going forward um to determine what the next referendum will look like or what changes might happen. Um so the two listening sessions will take place next month um right before the committee of the whole. We'll have the committee of the whole meeting and the listening session at Trump Elementary. Um the listening session will be at 6 p.m. meeting afterwards and then uh at the regular board meeting that following Monday the listening session would be at 6 o'lock with the board meeting to follow here. So hitting

the two um you know more trying to hit as many people as possible convenient for travel. Um the uh survey again we're just working on it. It's going to be done through like survey monkey. It's going to be something where anybody can access it. There will be a link going right to our our website. That's the referendum website. It'll take them right there. They'll click on it and they'll be able to do the survey. >> We're just working on the details of that. a half number or enough, you think? >> Well, that's what we talked about. If you guys want to make a change, now would be the time to do it because we're going to print those um we're going to print those postcards in about a week. So, >> I mean, I I

I for one like to listen to the people that are listening and >> they may be longer than a half an hour. That's my opinion. >> Well, if it goes longer, we just start our meeting later. >> Can't we? Or can we I mean can we start it at 5:45 or 5:30 and there >> can you start your meeting late as long as it's fairly close to the time that you have posted. It can be off a little bit. You don't want to be off by an hour. >> Um you know I guess if you look at the open meetings law you should be close. That's why we're able to do, for example, at the annual meeting, we have a special meeting and it says to follow the um your annual meeting and budget hearing.

We're able to have that flexibility. So, if if your if your regular meeting goes slightly later, it's not going to be, you know, 15 minutes, but you you might have to say, "Okay, maybe we have to schedule another." I don't expect you're going to have 60 people show up, but again, you don't know. last time we didn't that's for sure. I mean >> I mean I just think about all those sessions that we did and you know um you had I think what 20 people was maybe the max at any and and some of the people were repeaters and and some of the people are in this room right now. >> So um you know again will we have an outpouring of people? No, >> no, >> but we can also if you have a

big crowd and we go, "Wow, there's so many people here." >> Could we, you know, we could actually talk to that big crowd and say, "Let's uh let's set another date and throw a couple out right at the meeting and agree that that we're going to do it and they can come and and then everybody's happy." Um, but you sure can start it 15 minutes earlier or whatever. It's really up to you. >> Hopefully, these cards do provide some interest. I mean to get the public out. >> I' always hope so. >> The listening sessions classified as special meetings then >> before they board is here. So we would have to post it. >> We do have to post. >> So could we just do the same thing as with the annual meeting and say

committee meeting to follow a special listening session? Then we're safe either way. [clears throat] You guys are good with that. >> I like that idea if we can do that. I don't It might be a little bit hard pressed to get [snorts] to Trump at 5:30 or 5:45. >> Yeah, >> even though I'm right there. >> Yeah, >> I know where I'm scheduled right now. >> And I was going to say and for people too, it might be hard for them to get there. So [clears throat] >> not everybody's retired like you. [laughter] >> But I think if we could if we could say with you know listening session with committee meeting to follow >> and the good thing about that is if the meeting the listening session is short >> then we can consider

>> yeah that's a good idea I think >> plus and minus to both comfortable. >> Maybe comm maybe will follow. >> I will I would want to do another listening session >> unless of course needed but >> that would prolong this whole process. So >> if we could avoid that at all cost >> got it. >> Okay. we have next year. So then the rest of the timeline is the hope is um you know in November the committee the whole or if we need a special meeting but we'd be working on looking at the results right of the listening session of the survey um and then December formulating questions of what the referendum is going to look like and really getting solid on the question or questions depending on which way the the board goes

and then January would be the resolution uh for for the referendum so that the referendum is ready to roll for the April 2027 vote. Uh if we were not to meet that timeline, we would have to wait till April 2028 >> in order to have a referendum vote. So meeting that timeline is really critical. >> I also want to ask, are we going to have these discussions at the committee meeting or at the board [snorts] meeting? I prefer the board meeting. >> We can have them at both. we can start putting on the referendum. We can put that on the you would like committee and and at the board meeting. That way if you know you kind of need to table and think about something you Monday you're you can come right back to it.

Again up to the board if that's what you would like can do it at both. >> I don't think I think it would be good and if we don't need it you know there's not much >> we can just >> Yeah. Yeah. It's you have the opportunity to >> it'll be fresh coming right off the listening session. I'd rather have a at least start the discussion at the committee of the whole. >> Are we going to have a chance to review the survey before it goes out? >> Um it's such a tight tight such a tight timeline. I know I'm going to run it by time, you know. I don't we would have to have a special meeting middle of next week I guess. Um >> do you need email? >> You can't do that

as a board and comment so that everybody hears it but an individual could respond back to me. So um I I'll happily send it out to the board and uh you guys again tight timeline. I'm working with people that are going on vacations trying to get this thing done quickly. It's not that I don't want your input. It's just be tight. I mean, just put a 24-hour limit on it one day.
