There's been worse [laughter] everybody to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Our heavenly father, we thank you for this day you've given. We pray that you continue to watch over this community. Uh ask your blessing upon all staff members, whatever their task is. Uh be with us during this next coming week as kids are testing and uh vacation after that. Pray to keep those in our community safe and in your care. We pray all this in Jesus name. Amen. Okay, welcome. James Stton, you want to recite the mission statement for us? At the bottom of your Oh, it's at the bottom. [laughter] >> This meeting is a meeting. >> Where's it at? >>

Oh, excellence in education preparation for life. I should know that, but I'm new. >> That's okay. >> I'm good. >> I thought you might have. >> No. >> Yeah. Yeah. I did the same thing you did. [laughter] He pulls that on you. >> Okay. Everybody is in attendance. Public comments at this time call this evening. Consent items. Everybody had the minutes from the previous meeting in their packet. Any questions, [clears throat] corrections, additions? approval of November 25th and December 10th payroll and December claims. [laughter] Is there any questions for Christine on those? Have a chance to look through the statements are out. >> Yes. On the 10th. Yes. [clears throat] >> Okay. Questions personnel. >> Okay. New hires. I'd like to recommend Braden Bontrager, varsity boys basketball assistant coach as a volunteer. Emily McCrae, varsity

softball assistant coach as a volunteer. Alexis Mclatcher, high school pair professional. Samantha Dodie, middle school special education long-term substitute. And Sierra Stout, corporation permanent substitute. Uh, no reassignments. Couple resignations. Wes McCrae, middle school football coach. Amber Bick, part-time security booth receptionist. and Emily Brian Hall, middle school special education teacher, effective December 19th. >> Okay, questions on personnel. Have a motion to accept consent items. >> A motion. >> Jamie, >> second in favor. Motion carries five to zero. Action items. A a recommendation to approve the resolution for annual transfer of expenditures. Christine >> Yeah. So there's three resolutions and they're all just uh preparation for year end. So this first one will just allow me to transfer appropriations within a fund so that we can avoid negative balances. >> Any questions for Christine? A motion [clears

throat] >> second. >> Aaron all in favor. Motion carries five to zero. All this is in our packet too by the way. Item B, recommendation to approve the resolution to transfer to rainy day fund. >> Right. So, uh, we don't know what that amount will be yet, but we can do up to 10% of our total budget, which is around two, I think it's 2.3 million. So, but I I could present that number to you guys in January. >> Okay. Any questions on this one? I have a motion. Yes. I'll >> second. Heather. All in favor? [clears throat] Motion carries five to zero. Item C, recommendation to approve the resolution to transfer [clears throat] amounts from education fund to operations fund. >> Yes. So I would like to transfer 800,000 from education to operations. um

we are allowed to do 15% of uh total education fund revenue. This will put us right around 10%. [clears throat] And it will help to bring our um cash balance down to our target of that 12 to 15%. >> Okay. Any questions for Christine? Is there a >> motion? Aaron and Jamie second doesn't matter. [clears throat] >> All in favor? Motion carries 5 to zero. Thank you, Christine. Item D, recommendation to approve Shannon Chavez as the I say that right? >> I'm not real sure, honestly. as the joint appointment to the Lrange County Library Board from Prairie Heights and Westview districts. >> Yeah, last month I just had you two sign papers for Walker Healey. They had talked about him being on the board. Uh but he does not live in the Westview district and

they did have somebody apply from the Westview district which she to be one of their elementary principles over there. I believe from Topeka. So, uh they would like her to be the representative. So, that represents us and Westview. Um so, I'd like to recommend we go ahead and approve her. A motion >> Heather just all in favor motion carries five [clears throat] to zero. Item item E recommendation to approve the first reading of the ISBA policy 1200. >> Yeah, in your packets you have a copy of that policy 1200 and that talks about the reorganization meetings that we had to do in January. So it used to be we had to have we would have to have a reorganization be within the first 15 days of January and they have changed that law. So it

just has to be done within the month of January. So all we're doing is changing the language there in that policy to take out the first 15 days, replace it within the month of January. That way we can do all this stuff at a regular scheduled January meeting, not have to have an extra meeting. So >> Okay. [clears throat and cough] >> Is there a motion to approve the first reading? A motion >> Jamie >> second. >> Aaron, all in favor? Motion carries five to zero. Now we have item F, recommendation to suspend the rules to allow the reading of ISBA policy of 1,200 for a second time. If we don't do this, we'll have to have a special meeting. >> Okay. So to have our policy in effect by then, we'd like to have

it. So yes for a second time >> move to approve >> and he sure it's close in favor motion carries five to zero [clears throat] and now we have to adopt policy 1200. Let's turn it down. [laughter] >> Second. >> That might have been the quickest adoption of the policy we [laughter] had. >> Pretty easy on that one. >> All those in favor? Five to zero. Any other >> business items? Nope. >> You have comments, Mr. Reed. Brian, what's going on in your world? [clears throat] >> So, we uh Mr. Troyer along with the middle school um just did our week food drive. That was pretty exciting. Something we do annually. Um we had a winter music program for our first and third grade students coming up this Wednesday. Um last week our PTO ran

our annual Santa shop. So, students got to go in and buy for family members. Um it went really well. Um we have a lot of festive activities going on this week given time of year and then we'll have a special visitor from the North Pole on Friday morning. So that's always fun for the kiddos. And then we're also doing something a little bit different. Um and Mr. Reed, other Mr. Reed has kind of taken um a step with this where we're doing a behavior incentive. So every class is given out five awards and we're celebrating student achievements in five different areas. Um and then we're doing a convocation on Thursday and then additionally we're going to hold a party for all the students in the afternoon. So we're really working to celebrate positive behaviors instead

of just holding kiddos accountable for all behaviors all the time. So excited to kind of shift and do something positive for kids >> high school. >> Uh since we last met we've had our band and choir concerts. We like to thank the students and Kaylee and Kyle for putting on wonderful concerts. Um, same thing to Mrs. Reid and Mr. Ellard. Uh, we've got a place since then. Um, it's definitely Christmas at the high school. We just finished our food drive. We have the deck the doors contest going on. Um, we also raised $600 this year for our uh, gift cards to students for staff wearing jeans for the last two weeks before Christmas break. Um, so want to thank them for giving their money and sharing it with our students at the high school. We

have final exams this week. I said quite a bit today. So, final exams Thursday, [laughter] Friday. No delays, no anything. We just want to get those in. >> Should be good for us to make. >> I had parent teacher conferences. Uh 40% participation rate, which is about on average what we end up with. Um hey, talk about positive stuff, but Brian had mentioned we've had a couple field trips. Um, eighth grade went to uh JA Jobs Park. Uh, fifth grade went to a play at Embassy Theater. Outstanding behavior. The kids, they did some lunch um at a buffet place and the kids uh they just were really good representatives of Prairie Heights. And in years past, we've had a little bit of a challenge with that. So, [clears throat] I just thought that was a

a really neat thing, something I wanted to share. We had our PD day. Been spent been a little bit on that, but working [clears throat] a lot on ELA and math tier one instruction. And uh had had a really good day and learned a lot. And we did split it apart from ELA and math. Um you know, it's a full day uh thing. We got another one coming up in February. Uh we had a packed house for Singo. Uh if you haven't done that, it's a lot of fun. It's bingo but with songs. And uh we had quite a few people there. Serve some people some donuts. And uh it was a good community event. Uh that was back in November. Um uh just mentioned this as well, the play, they just had a recent

play, the best Christmas pageant ever. Um and then a really good really good showing on that. And uh part of the food drive, they have a cake raffle and that's something that Tatsy Hay's that started years ago. They still do it. Um kids had a lot of fun. uh staff donated cakes and they were able to raise some money to get some food for um the food drive and some of the chickens and that type of thing and also Miller Poultry helped donate some of that food as well. Um so a lot of positive things going on and here we are coming [clears throat] after Christmas break looking forward to good uh last week. Friday 7:15 is our staff breakfast. All of you are welcome to join if you would like to do that. Um,

Saturday kickstarts our whole furniture process over break. We'll have the building open 8 to noon on Saturday for anybody out there who wants a student desk, old teacher desk or a table. We'll offer it up to community first and then over break um we'll have everything moved out and all of our new furniture moved in. So, pretty excited about that and uh ready to get going. So, >> that should be done. I mean, it will be done before the kids get back, but they were hoping it would be done even before New Year's Day. >> Yeah. But they will work on New Year's Day if they have to. So that's the incentive to work hard. Right. Anyway, >> yeah. So, yep. Looking forward to that. So, that is all we have. >> Well, we're journ

[laughter] >> Andy. >> Yeah. >> Oh, you said 40% turnout. >> Yeah. >> Are is that getting the parents you need to see? >> Yeah. So we we always regardless if they show up or not, we always call any parent that has D [clears throat] or an F, student has a D or an F. So we make contact with them. >> So that that's kind of our >> right, >> you know, way to do that at least to make sure they're informed on that. >> Okay. >> So yeah, they don't always they don't always come and ones you always need to see, but >> and I will say that fifth sixth grade is a little bit more attended than seven days, but you know, I I still would take 40%. You know, it is a

pretty good turnout and it was busy most of the time. >> Other 64 [laughter] email to us.
