001Hey, it's 8 o'clock, so we'll call the meeting to order. Um, far as the agenda goes, would you >> similar item that you >> Oh, yeah. >> suggesting adding up to you if you want to put it on there or not. >> Yeah. Okay. So under discussion items, H will be graduation. Everybody get that? Okay, that I think that's the only change to the agenda. So I'd take a motion to approve it. >> I move to approve. >> All those in favor 70 consent agenda. Take a look at that. a couple of minutes or a couple of moments to look through it or you got any questions. Any questions? And I accept a motion to approve the consent. >> I move to approve consent agendas. All >> in favor? 7. >> All right. Guess any

002board member reports that I'm aware not aware of? uh just KSB convention here in in uh uh second third week of November 112. So if you you guys are all in the breath of harvest, but I still would encourage great opportunity to learn what other districts are doing how we can continue to improve ours and let them just networking with other school members. So I know we can I I plan to attend and I realistically I think we could get folks in right up until the last minute. >> So we we have u additional rooms still. We've got people wanting them, but we're holding on to them >> and you could really just go for one night like just Friday night, Saturday and catching 90% of the content. There is some stuff few things on

003Sunday but >> I don't necessarily have the report uh but the bonfire for the homecoming or they just >> home homecoming >> homecoming yeah I think they should use different wood and pallets in the parking lot >> few nails the first time they've done that for a while and Nelson Underwood said he had one of those rollers, the magnetic rollers that uh was supposed to collect all of that. Um, did you find one in the tire? >> No, this was the day of the game or the night of the game and it walked past there and seen the rim and it's probably not a they swept it up and then they went over it with a one of those magnetic things trying to pick everything up. So, they were aware of it ahead of time.

004Usually, we just use the scraps from the uh um wood shop there, just the little edges and woods and stuff. So >> yeah, I have no problem with bonfire or anything nails. >> Well, and I think he said something about making sure we move it to a different spot because I think with the new asphalt there, the heat um had an impact of footprint and so not doing it in the same exact place every time. >> So you're aware that >> Yeah. Yeah. >> It was pre-planned to know that there would be nails that needed picked up. >> All right, move on to discussion items. Item A, fleet update. Yeah, I kind of put together I I sat down and had conversations with uh Mr. Gar just trying to look at um what's the right

005rotation to to stay up all of our you know the bus life a yellow bus life has 25 years. Um but you know, we've got a few more um needs where some Suburbans Expeditions um full-size SUVs are in in use. And so we felt like that it'd be good to get one of those this year and then next year's rotation would probably the next rotation would be a fullsize bus. Um, but I put that um kind of a uh RFP um together for you guys to look at on there um to see if I had him look through that as well to see if there's anything that he feels we need to add anything else. And he thought it looked pretty good. But my recommendation would be to move forward with trying to get another

006I mean I've understood the expedition's been good and the when we talked about that last time I think Kenny was the one that brought it up that that seat belt notification thing is pretty nice on those as well. But we do have a fleet number with Ford. Chevy is no longer doing actual fleet but I'll send this out to all the dealerships in the area. So, any questions or anything on transportation needs? >> Just just to replace an aging suburban or just one to the police. >> We've got a couple that would be okay if our bus drivers need to take them home. This and that. As far as kids transporting, we got some that probably age out. We still have 111 that that was the one was wrecked and that we still have that's

007one of our older ones that they're still using that is in not great shape. >> You say 25 years lifespan of a bus >> yellow bus regardless of miles now it's >> even around here. >> That's what I was going to ask. >> I think that would be drastically shorter. >> Well um and and right now the age of our buses are we're in good shape. The problem is, if I remember right, we've got a 19, a 21 or two 21s and a 22, which we need to start spreading that out >> because a full size is probably going to be 160 to 180 anymore. So, >> if I don't hear any issues, we'll go ahead and send that out and see what we get. >> Okay, we'll move on to item B, the board

008governance book. >> Yeah, I put one in there. Um, you know, I've taken tried to take some from different districts and kind of put one together that kind of fits us. Obviously, there might be some a few edits in there that we need to change, but I think I've got a lot of that that for the most part matches our practice from my understanding, but I'd ask for you guys to kind of look through that again. um just just to have something in place so this something we can reference um um you know those members and uh so knowing that we'll have a new board member starting in January. I'd like to have it in place so that somebody give them ahead of time to look over so they understand the the dos and don'ts

009of works. So >> yeah, I think this would absolutely need to have something like this in place. Yeah, >> it's and it would be helpful not not just to new board members, but you know, you got you got the the calendar like the yearly calendar that's because we're always sitting there going, "What month do we do?" >> You know, that would be nice to have that timeline. So, yeah, I think that's great. >> And I I I don't >> in education, we steal a lot. I don't And I'm not sure where I got it from, but >> I was the >> borrowing without giving it back. But the the chain of communication on the back I think is important too just to kind of know the the um you know where the concern starts and

010and how it and I guess it also helps you know sometimes if board member gets a concern that needs to be started somewhere else it help you direct where it needs to go first. Do you want >> do you want to um approve it like next month or what? >> I'd like I'd like to have it um done next month if possible >> if everybody in in all your spare time that I know you all have right now. Could you take a look through that and see if there's any edits that you see or if there's stuff that you would like in there that's not or some things that don't apply the way we do things. Let Mr. yourselves know on that and hopefully next month we can get that approved. >> And if you

011want um paper copies or something, I can always print them, get them to you, too. That'd be easier. >> Okay. Item C, KSB convention. >> Well, Brendan stole the thunder on this one. Um again, just reminding we and Brendan's right. We can we can truly >> register for the the convention probably even to at that day. We have a couple extra rooms reserved, three extra rooms that we'll have to >> reserve, too. >> We'll have to get rid of those at some point. We've already have some neighbors that would like our rooms and so I'm going to hold on to them as long as we need to to make sure that we're taken care of first. So, >> we always reserve our rooms the second it comes open and get multiples. And if you don't

012do it the second it comes open, you're not going to get one. >> Yeah. So, and I know that looking a month ahead is is difficult, especially with all you guys that are going to be in the fields a lot and stuff. But, um if if you think you might or whatever, just let us know. We'll we'll probably hold on to those and probably till the 1st of November and then try to make sure that we pass those along so that we're not paying for rooms we're not using. So, >> and the 14th, 15th, and 16th, right? >> It is. >> 14, 15, 16th. Yes. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Anything else on that? >> Nope. >> All right. Teacher retention survey. I put the the letter I got from Dr. Church. He's the one

013that does this. This is that every other year um statewide u teacher survey. And so um just wanted to let you guys know that uh talked with uh Miss Keller, Mr. Myers, and we're planning on giving teachers the time to take this um this Thursday at our PD day. Um we should be done and then plenty of time to be able to do that before lunch a little bit. Um and so um more or less just want to let you know we'll plan doing that again and then we'll get the the survey results. Um, I guess this will be the first time that that with my tenure will be able to compare it because the first one was it was 23 and 21 and so this will be the first time and so we'll give

014that and I think if I remember right the results come back in February or March if I remember right but I'll share it when I get it. >> It's a great report. >> Yeah, just a lot of insight there statewide. Do we do we have the option? I don't know how getting district level reserves. I can't >> there's a there's a cost difference and I I don't know if it's on that um form in there or not. I can't remember. >> See if that's worth. >> I want to say it's for some reason the number comes in my hand head is 3,3500 to get the in-depth sugar. >> I'll find out. Okay. Kansas can uh Kansas Star recognition. >> Yeah, I just got a bit of this last Thursday. Um you can see the the

015um awards that the district received. Um it's kind of nice that actually from my understanding in K Brown, Miss Keller, there was a lot of things that we did. We weren't ready to submit the kindergarten readiness one yet this year, but we did the IPS and Mr. Myers, did we do did we turn in application for a civic engagement? I don't know. >> No, we knew we weren't going to get that. >> Um, so last year we got the graduation postsecondary effectiveness and the commissioners award. Um, the individual plans of study is a new one which is awesome. Um, we're supposed to the authenticated apps. Right now, the the application for that is still blacked out. So, we can't go in and see anything yet. But they should be providing us with feedback on why

016we scored where we did. So, that was kind of our plan with the IPS was to submit it, get some feedback just to kind of barometer of where we're at and how we can improve on that. But, um, it goes gold, silver, bronze, copper. So, copper is kind of the the fourth on that. Um and then last year we just got the regular commissioners award. This year we got it with honors and that's just exceeding the um expected um post post secondary success rate um going above what you're predicted to. So um you know obviously I' I'd like us to get those coppers to bronze and the bronze to silver and so on, but um it's good that our staff are recognized for the stuff that they're doing. So, >> all right. Facilities. >> Um,

017just some uh I guess some updates. Um, we got a company that we have 63 I call them lubers. I don't remember what exactly what they're called, but they're little twisty things that go on our tubes of our boiler at the high school. Um those have been ordered and they are planning on getting those I want to say this week or next week getting those installed. They'll just have the system will have to be down. No heat or air um while they do that. But that'll get the boilers up and running at the high school. We did have a fire alarm go off at the junior senior high on that was Tuesday or Wednesday. Um, it was in the gym and it happened last time they got hit by a ball. This one, we're not

018sure what it was. It's just a malfunction in the sensor. But when they don't line up, it it senses there smoke or something in between. And so they're coming out this week to replace that um on our by annual semianual. Yes. Which one's great? Anyway, twice a year for the um I was looking at the English teacher. Well, one of them is bianual, one's bianial. >> Okay. Anyway, they're coming out. They come out twice a year. I thought that, right? Um, and so this will be their second one of the year. So, they'll they'll do all the inspection and stuff and update that. Um, it was we couldn't get the alarm to to well, first of all, set off the fire alarm and so fire department got called and then just couldn't get it turned

019off. So, >> as long as it thinks that beam is broken, it just keeps triggering every time we reset it. So, we were >> we got >> having a good day. >> An update on the the plumbing at the elementary school. You know, we had a company come in and and camera all that. Um and the pipes are actually in better shape than they thought. There's a couple spots that might need to be um addressed. And so they they went back to come up with this different plan that hopefully is cheaper than the one that we had originally talked to them about doing for the $25,000 to put in the grinder and all that kind of stuff. And so we're waiting for them to come back um on that plan. The sewer line at the

020junior senior high more or less the run that goes from the kitchen to the main line. Um they came that one and there's a lot and it looks like mostly grease and stuff and so they're going to come back and >> essentially brush that. They've got a couple different options to see if based on the camera they worried about a couple areas that the pipe might be in bad shape, but they can go in and essentially put an epoxy on the inside and shave it down and not have to replace the pipes. So, they're going to the next step is to have them come in, clean that out. Like I said, it looked like a lot of it was grease. So, the enzymes that we've been putting in here recently aren't really doing a whole

021lot because I mean, there were times that the camera got stuck trying to pull through on the way back out. So, but I think once we get that cleaned out, um, we shouldn't have any issues with it backing up in the kitchen. Um the the rough estimate they gave us for if they have to go in and epoxy from the inside out to re to rebuild the pipes is about I want to say they said $300 a foot. So we're hoping that there's just a few places that we need that. Um but I think those were the ones that I wanted to to get you caught up on. Um yeah, everything's kind of in place. The the new doors that are by the fourth and fifth grade hall, those should be getting put in over

022um Thanksgiving break and then we'll get that access control since that one was those doors weren't closing. We didn't order doors at the rest of them because we were getting the steps done and so this is replacing that last door there. Am I forgetting anything you guys in the facility and things rebuildings? Those doors are supposed to be in today. >> Okay. >> But um I'm not sure when they plan on scheduling it, but they were supposed to be delivered to Jackson today is what they thought. >> Perfect. >> Okay. Any questions on there leaving us so soon? >> Sorry. >> All right. We will move on to item G. your bond updated. >> Yeah, we've had a couple um you know, couple um community meetings. The first one we had on the 13th, no

0236th, last Monday. >> Um some things that we'll kind of change for next the next tour is have a little bit more structure to it. Um obviously having volleyball there, it's kind of a little bit confusing on who was going where. So, next one will be um Sunday the 19th. And so, it'll be a little bit easier to kind of plan that, but got some good feedback. Allan said that there were some people in there that when in the boiler stuff that said that he gave a pretty good presentation and explained some of that stuff. And so, um I think it was beneficial for people to see some of it that haven't in a while. Um then we had one at Baroque Wednesday, last Wednesday. >> We got Ezan this Wednesday and then next week

024we got Sunday at the high school, Jeroso on Tuesday, Juel on Thursday. >> So we will I by and large for the mo there's a lot of good questions and I I think that's you know what that's all about. It's just trying to make sure that we address the things that maybe haven't been clear enough in the communication and getting some of that feedback and the questions we use to kind of help us with the FAQs that we're putting together now to send out so that um we can get all those addressed. I say the tours were helpful. I think getting folks in the building just see what you are. >> Um I al just wanted to say I appreciate everybody that's showed up to those meetings. things. I know it's, you know, asking a

025lot of everybody's time here, but I do appreciate you all being there when you're able to. Um, like Mr. Cell said, we still got what, three, three or four more. So, there's there's more opportunities to come spend time. So, just thanks for that. All right. Uh, we'll move on to graduation. >> Well, Mr. I was we were going to have that conversation. But if you remember right and we talked gosh it seems like forever ago but based on the timeline of the school and everything else that graduation um >> does not fall on >> is in order for seniors to have their senior day and have graduation following that the graduation would be on the third technically the third Saturday in May versus the second. >> So it would be a week after Mother's Day.

026We're still looking at different ways and quite frankly um the biggest I want to say issue the biggest challenge is we can have it on that I I believe it's the ninth if I'm just throwing out numbers but um it's inter it'd be odd to ask seniors to come back after graduation for a couple days to to meet their hours. Um, but >> is that what we if we were to move up to the ninth or 10th if youth >> you're saying we wouldn't have we have students that wouldn't have met their hours they would not have technically met their graduation qualifications by then. A lot of it depends on snow days and that's that was going to be my next part of that is with what we have in the calendar and if you

027remember with even back with negotiations we had that 172 student contact days originally um we have about depending on depending on the building obviously both buildings have to go for the minimum of 1,116 hours we have about eight eight and a half hours of snow days built in. So, so if we have a mild winter and don't have to worry about using snow days, then obviously we can shorten everything up and have it and not have to have the seniors come back. But that may not be clear until spring break. I mean, we had a blizzard in a week of no electricity in in March. So I I understand how everybody they're just the tradition has been the second weekend, Mother's Day weekend for graduation. Um and so I I know that they're trying to

028get some graduation stuff ordered. Um >> yeah, we need to commit to a date or that's not going to work to have people, >> right? planning on one and then we can't switch it halfway through the year. We need to make a commitment on >> March. >> Yeah. >> Um and ultimately we know that the more kids are in school, the more learning is going to happen. Um we could have school in session those two days after graduation on that Monday and Tuesday for the seniors to meet them and if they don't come they're counted absent. Um that's another way to to look at it that way. But >> anyway, I just we we hadn't talked about it in a while. And I >> there's not any other any other way to get to get

029their hours or make sure they get their hours other than you're going to do that. You're going to have to change the hours for everybody else. So, you know, you can't add a few minutes here and there. >> Well, seniors always get out three days earlier than the rest. They're 1076, aren't they? >> 10:56. >> 1056. >> So, if the calendar says that seniors have to come the Monday, Tuesday after graduation, we're meeting the attendance cent's requirements for that. >> I get what you're saying. It's >> it's a little >> strange message to send. >> I know. >> What's the huge complaint about it not being Mother's Day weekend? Because It's always been Mother's Day weekend. >> Yeah. >> It's tradition. >> Well, not not just tradition. It's that places have been reserved and scheduled

030for that weekend. >> Dude, people should realize it doesn't work that way. >> Well, I'm just I'm saying that's that's the context. So, we go change that date now or that that's okay. We can do that. We're just saying that we just need to be fully aware that that will affect what what our tra we we don't release our calendar until uh you know it's less than a year in advance essentially I think that's the concern but it could be moved I'm not saying it can't month and obviously I'm different either way but >> advocating for moving it >> back to where we normally have it or you're you're saying >> you know I I personally been different on which weekend I'm saying the intent was people had reserved for which spaces time for the

031>> assumed it was going to be Mother's Day weekend >> and so had made plans for that and planning already. >> Well, as a mother I like my weekend without anything on it. >> Oh yeah. Greek graduation. >> I get back and play constantly for mine too. Why do you do this? >> And and obviously >> I can guarantee my senior will be there those two days after. Um, we don't make decisions based on um, extended family. >> Yeah. >> But I also understand that people that have graduations on the state trying to >> it would be nice for us to make a decision pretty soon. But but again, if if we're trying to, for lack of better, if we're trying to make that night be a possibility, there are ways to do it. We

032just have to and again if we set it and say they have to come after and then we don't use snow days then there's you know what I mean it's just >> I don't like the idea of having having kids coming back after graduation. Well it's not like they're going to come back. >> Yeah. Exactly. They're not that's exactly and we have looks like activities in the boards tonight the 11th which is the next Monday night. So that would also would the assumption be made we would ask them to come back or >> Yeah. So for that or move that up a week? I would say everything else remains the same and it's just a matter of senior hours. And again, I I know that sounds awful, and I know there are districts that have

033a floating graduation date based on snow days, and they try to make sure that they're meeting that I hate to say the minimum requirement, but then they give their seniors the extra days afterwards. But, um, >> looks like our last senior day is the 14th, which is a Thursday. Graduation is the 16th. So, really getting a day off. That's in our in the calendar we have planned. Now it's April. They got a day on it, right? >> Well, the last day of school for everyone else is the 19th. >> Oh, okay. Yeah. So, they get >> So, last year our last day was on a Friday, >> which pushed everything up a week. selfish. Okay, >> I we'll keep looking at scenarios, but I >> the irony of all that we're still going to be

034in those in fall sports or spring sports will still be >> that always happens. I mean that happens. >> We were at state track till June last year. >> I mean, I know that's only a handful of kids, but it's still >> you're involved in the school for all the way through the month. Is there any there be any value in just surveying the senior parents? I mean that's >> I would say you'll get 50%. >> I just you know if there's if there was a strong preference I you know I don't have I don't have any stake in this. So I I want to make the decision that >> I mean I'm okay with surveying saying be prepared for results that don't solve our questions. fixing it. >> They might. I mean, at least

035you asked the question, too. You know, at least they felt heard. >> Yeah. I don't know. I just, you know, if there was if I felt like if there was a >> resounding >> a consensus among parents of which one they prefer, that's what I would that's what I'd vote for. But if, you know, if it's, you know, if it's half and half, then I guess it's >> I say we keep it for the moment. Um, >> yeah. I don't I don't think we're changing it today, but >> I just want to let you guys all kind of know that >> the sooner we decide for sure the better. >> The different potential scenarios we have to make it work if we wanted to. But >> are there other factors that I'm just I asked

036this because I don't know the answer. Are there other factors in the community or events or things that get planned around our graduation date that this would impact by moving graduation? I I don't know the answer to that. >> And I from my understanding there was just an assumption that it was Mother's Day weekend and then people looked on the calendar and that's what kind of stirred up the discussion is they were just assuming it was that day. So that's Saturday Mother's Day. So I will like I said the snow days is the easiest one but you're not going to know that till middle of March. Um, assuming that we have winter, like we've had the last couple winners. >> So, if I rec I'm remembering right like everything on the calendar, the dates move

037up a day every year except for the leap year or whatever. So, next year will Mother's Day be on the 8th, even earlier in the calendar. >> I'm just saying if you make this decision now, it's going to be a day worse next year. Yeah, >> that would be 20 >> ever so many years up every year, but the leap year >> Mother's Day is the >> the 9th on the 20 2027. >> It's back up to the ninth. I was going to say the same >> and then the the following year on the 28th it moved to the 14th. Mhm. >> The the year I graduated from high school, that weekend was Mother's Day, my birthday. My sister got married. The next day I graduated. >> Okay. >> We were kind of tired after

038that week. >> Your sister face all my glory. >> Ruined my weekend. Gota go get married. >> Well, I I'll talk to Mr. Myers a little bit more to see if you know if we want to survey the senior parents. Like I said, I if we're doing what's best for student learning, you know, because right now that Monday and Tuesday, if we're looking at it for seniors, Gosh, um um senior's last day is the 14th, which means they're going to be taking finals the 12th and 13th. So, there's ways that you could move stuff around. Teachers have to adjust a little bit. But anyway, >> well, I don't know. I guess get a little more guidance from whoever you can get guidance from on it and give us a recommendation. I don't think it sounds

039to me like we're open to whatever whatever helps out the most. >> Other than tradition, I haven't heard a like convincing argument to but if there's one out there, I'm willing to listen. >> Sure. Correct. >> Okay. All right. We'll move on to action items. Renewal of the CD at Guaranty State Bank. >> I put a note on the agenda page two just kind of to let you guys know interest rate wise where we are at the state investment rate and guarantee is being uh generous. Uh they are a little bit above the state investment rate for this week. So my recommendation of course is to go ahead and renew at that rate that they've offered. >> Any questions on that? Not I would take a motion for that. >> I move to approve renewal

040of a million dollar CD8 guarant bank for 3 months at 4%. >> In favor all those in favor 70. Okay. Um, item B is a gift uh from Lutheran Ladies for elementary snacks amount of $250. >> They did this at this exact same meeting last year as well. >> Your preference on the class or just all >> No, it's for it's for all elementary and I think Lacy can can maybe um that last year we ordered um snacks that were kind of timeless that the classes could have. Isn't that correct, Lacy? >> Twinkies. I don't think we got Twinkies. >> I think we got some crackers or moon vibes. >> Just Yeah. Some little little individual packet snacks that they were able to distribute to to all the rooms. So, >> okay. Motion to approve

041the gift from the Lutheran ladies for the elementary class snacks in the amount of $250. >> Second. >> All those in favor? 70. Okay. We are ready for executive sessions. >> No A. So, we are B. I know we have a B. So, >> who would you like and how long do we need? >> I think just me. We could probably get him knocked out five minutes. >> Okay. Why don't you go 8:40 then? >> Mr. President, I move we go into executive session with Mr. Stell present to discuss employee contracts presented to the non-elected personnel exception under the open meeting will resume at the boardroom at 8:40. Second. >> All those in favor? 70. >> Done with me today? >> I think so. >> Very good. >> Thank you. >> Have Have a good

042rest of your day. >> Have a good Monday. >> What's that? >> Have the Have a good rest of your day. >> It It can only get better from here, can it? Not that I'm aware of. >> Hoping everything was okay. Always something on Monday. New kids, I tell you what. >> Well, good luck with the rest of your day. Then we'll go with that. >> Back in open session. Motion to accept the resignation of Trevor Elkins effective 10225. >> Second. All those in favor 70 should be right on this one. Motion to approve a stipen for Shannon Meyer for 25 20 >> or I'm sorry 2500. >> Yes. And 20 >> 20. Yes. >> You need to know why. Hey, we're looking to stop in or do we need >> like I'm looking you

043see me? I'm going. >> All those in favor 70. Thank you. Visi on you. >> Is there more executive sessions? >> Nothing. Can I ask >> would you like would you like me to add >> and have a discussion on >> No, no, a record. We'll take the record. >> Okay, then I believe our business is concluded. If somebody would like to make a motion to adjurnn. >> Second. >> All in favor? 70. That is a regular morning.
