Welcome to our school boundary public hearing this evening. We're glad you're all here. And we will uh begin this meeting with uh roll call beginning with Jared. >> Jared Black, business administrator. Jeff Nielsson, board member. >> Kathy Christensen, board member. Terry Rhodess, board member. >> Roger Pzer, board member. Todd McKe, superintendent. Brian Chambers, board member. >> Randall Baggley, board member. >> Thank you all for being here, we have a full quorum. And um we have uh before we start with public input, we'd like to have an introduction to the proposed school boundary changes. And that will be given by >> Derek Beer who is our director of elementary education. Okay. Thank you for um letting me take a few minutes to explain um some of the reasoning behind this proposed change. Um if you remember
when we did the the entire boundary um proposal, we were we were going off the the best numbers that we could use. As we got further along and we started to see some more solid numbers, um one of the pieces that caught our transportation's um eye first was this area right here. Um, and this area which is There we go. Scroll in just a little bit more, Kevin, if you could. And then pull it the other direction down just a little bit. Yeah, they're right there. Okay. Sorry. Um, so these two areas right here and right here were originally going to Heritage Elementary. Um, in looking at those numbers, um, there were some pretty big numbers going to Heritage and there is a lot of growth, um, projected for Heritage over the next little while.
So, initially we made a change and pulled some of this area, pulled about 40 students from this is Wellsville Elementary. We pulled this over to Wellsville Elementary and um, that was in our first proposal. Um, since then we've had some more solid numbers come in and transportation uh caught another number that that concerned us. We had some pretty high numbers of kindergarten students projected or anticipated going into um Heritage Elementary. Um especially with this area right here and this area combined, there were um 140 uh possible kindergarten students going into Heritage Elementary, which would have put them above capacity in that grade level and and caused some issues for years down the road. We at that time proposed taking this little section right here that was originally slated to go to Herit Heritage Elementary and
have them go to Wellsville Elementary. Um we we ran this by our facility advisory committee who's been uh active the entire way uh giving us suggestions and giving us input. They were supportive of that. We did send out a survey to um the the families in that area that were affected. Got some feedback there. The majority of that was positive. We didn't have a lot of uh feedback. We had nine respond to that, but the majority of those were positive and that's how we ended up where we are. >> Awesome. >> Any other information you'd like for me before we turn it over to the public? >> Anyone have questions for Derek? >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you, Derek, for that introduction. We have three people signed up to speak to this um proposal
on the school boundary uh another school boundary change. Um we already to be clear, we already voted on as a board voted to do the all the big boundary shift and and we voted on a whole bunch of boundary shifts at the same with at the same time. But this has come up since then. And so we are considering this one more uh school boundary change and as such we um as we consider this we are um asking for this public input tonight. And so we have three people signed up to speak to this. Um a Aya Machznney. So, um please um say your name when you say it correctly because I did not. I'm sure when you come to the podium, please say it correctly and you'll have three minutes to speak. All right.
My name is Aya Mcchesny. You were pretty close. Um which is impressive. Nobody ever says my name right. How many questions [clears throat] can I ask or do I just have the time limit? >> You have a time limit. >> Okay. Um my first question, so I live in the Little Bear Ward, which is kind of that little section there by the green and orange. Um what are the projected class sizes for Wellsville um going into next year? We live in a a highly populated uh subdivision with tons of kids. Um so so in a public hearing we just listen to you. Okay. >> If you want answers we have some um administrators here who can answer your questions. But if you want to tell just rattle off your questions >> and then step out
into the hall and speak with an administrator who can answer those for you. >> Okay. >> Then then we can continue with the public hearing if that's what you'd like to do or you can just tell us how you feel about it. I kind of just wish that like the little bear subdivision could continue going to Lincoln just because we're so close. Um, and most of us have kids that are already enrolled in Lincoln Elementary and have kind of bonded with teachers, staff, um, and the principal there. Um, it seems like there's not a ton of projected growth in the Paradise Avon area just because it's more expensive. uh young families aren't typically affording the acreage that are out that way. So unless there's like plans to build condos or apartment complexes out there, I
just don't see the growth potential long term being significant um out that direction to fill Lincoln Elementary. >> Um so I guess that's my my real concern. We do have a demographers report that we um pub posted on our website that you could look at. >> Okay. >> Um for some of those answers, but um Derek, do you want to to step out in the hall and answer her questions for her right now so she doesn't have to wait? >> Fabulous. >> Thank you. Thanks for coming, Ayla. >> Yep. Um, next we have McKenzie Kle. >> Hi, I'm Mackenzie Kle. I'm just wanting to make sure that we're considering resources because a lot of our children at Lincoln rely on that title one. Um, sorry. So, if we're taking kids who have established their resources
with Lincoln to Wellsville, are they going to have those resources, what are we putting into place so that they are comfortable with that change? Cuz I don't know if you know kids in resource, they don't like change. And so, my daughter is already panicking. I I work full-time. So, I don't have the option to pick a school and drive her there every day. She has to go where the bus will take her. And um we were at Wellsville previously and their resource program was little to no help to me. I was in there all the time. She was always in the office having problems and I was trying to get help for her. We got a lot of push back. We bought a house in the little bear neighborhood there that is also from and
they they we got her into Lincoln. She had one episode at Lincoln and they were on top of it. She's met with the psychologist. She's got all the help that she needs. She's got the a the IEP put in place. She's made huge strides from kindergarten reading reading level up to second grade where she's supposed to be. And that's happened at Lincoln. And so my concern is that we're not going to we're just going to leave those kids behind cuz that switch is just going to totally throw them off their rocker. So I'm wondering if you guys have considered that. And if you haven't, please do. And please look into making sure that those resources can stay consistent through all the schools um to aid in helping these children. It's not just my daughter, it's
a a whole program at Lincoln that's run very efficiently and very well. And those parents care or those teachers care so much. Um and we're we're losing them. And so I just hope that that that's on your guys' radar. And if it's not, I would like to to make it be on your radar. >> Thank you. We um understand how emotional that um those changes can be for kids and parents. So, if you want to talk to to Mr. Bear, >> um he can he can help you with >> um figuring out how we can best help your daughter get the best services. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. Um, next we have Monica Tanel. >> I actually have no comments. Thank you. >> I don't know exactly how it works, so I just
thought I felt like saying something I but I this issue doesn't really pertain. So, thank you. >> Okay. All right. Well, that is the end of those parents who have signed up for um this public hearing and so we will saunter. Oh, nope. It's 5:45. So, we I will take a motion to um adjourn this public hearing. >> I move that we adjourn. >> I second it. >> It's been moved and seconded that we will adjourn. There's no discussion on that motion and so we will adjourn this meeting and move to our Spanish DLI program boundary hearing. Um boundary public hearing >> and so we have to wait for just a second >> for all of our tech people to um get that meeting ready and up and going. So, we'll wait just a minute
or two while we um take care of some
