Heat. feeling. I need you. Heat. Heat. feel. Hey feel. down. Heat. Heat. Yeah. Okay. Calling the regular school board meeting to order. Diana roll call. >> Marsha White >> here. >> Kobler >> here. >> And Arthur. >> Andy Lucas >> here. Christina Golder >> here. Cory Ger >> here. Kelly. >> Let's stand for the pledge of allegiance. To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible for all. I'm turning the meeting over to Dr. Wil. Thank you Miss White and I'm going to invite our principles to come up to the podium. And today we are going to start with Oakrest for positive descriptive praise. >> I got you. I was very confused. I'm so sorry. She's got >> Oh, I got a picture
of faster for me. Okay. Um, can I recognize the teams al together, Dr. Rox? Does that work? Okay. >> Uh, yeah. >> Whatever you have for positive descriptive phrase. >> Okay. So this is for our early childhood team and our kinder uh first cabs teachers. We tasked them with helping to collaborate and problem solve placements of students where we they would best have opportunities for them. So if I say your name um this is for you. So your thoughtful and intentional collaboration to ensure that students have the best opportunities next year is truly admirable. Um and this was from me. So that's Isabelle Reese, Allison Olan, Sarah Cyberlick, Bridget Gollick, Andrea Salgado, Kim Darling, Lauren Reading, Sarah Lindall, Arena Torpova, and Sarah Bambi. You guys can all come up here. We have one note for
the group and then we can give everyone a core memory ball or you can just have me come down here. Don't be shy. Come on then. I'll take your guys' picture by that blue wall in the back. >> Yeah, there's more. >> Way to go. And then EC and Gab's team, I'll take your picture by that blue wall back there once I'm done with the next two. Okay. Um, this next one is for Jen Kosal, our social worker from Brook Turk. Your willingness to problem solve and support to be available for our students and teachers is truly appreciated. Did I count? >> And then our last one is for our new member of our team. I'm going to butcher his name, but maybe not. Um, he is our new maintenance staff. His name is Joseph
Eisenbacher. Close. Okay, thank you. Um, this is from Miss Yami. Joseph is such a great addition to OC. He's kind, efficient, and super supportive to all of us and students. We're very lucky to have him. >> Mr. Versati URL. >> First one is for Rhonda Galvin. Um, since joining KM, Rhonda has jumped right into a leadership role. Not only does her energy and positivity shine through her kinder students, she lends it to each and every student at KM. Thank you for leading by example and lighting up the hallway. The other two I don't think are here, but maybe they'll pop in. Um, Laura Crosswight. Laura is one of CM's gems. She has a calm, friendly demeanor that creates a peaceful environment for both students and staff. She keeps the library and hallway outside the library
bright and inviting. It is a joy to know her and work with her. And I don't I don't think Hector is here either, but Hector um he is always so uplifting, smiling, loving, and encouraging. My favorite part of the each day um are the loving and encouraging messages every morning. So thankful for you. That's from Tanya Douie, >> Dr. Garris. >> Okay. So, um, I'm going to recognize Mrs. Jill Py. She is our admin assistant at Newport. Thank you for your incredible dedication and professionalism you bring to our school each and every day. As the first person our families see and the first voice they hear, you make everyone feel welcome. We are especially grateful for your ability to navigate communication for staff and families in any given moment. Thank you for your patience, your
hard work, and your unwavering dedication to our Newport school community. And next is Sandy Akilski. She is our math interventionist. So this year, Newport held their first um family math night. Families worked alongside their children and were taught various math games. They were each given math math manipulatives to work during stations. They were able to take them home to continue their learning. Sy's love of math and problem solving shows through all the work she does with our students. Thank you for creating a firm memory with our students. Woohoo. I'll get your picture. >> And the next is for Ty Randelle. He is not here today, but I was talking to a family a couple weeks ago and he got a great compliment. Um they made a point to let me know that he is available
to communicate. He responds for within 24 hours to a timely email. He said even on a weekend he responded to answer a question when his child was in need. And he said he is really grateful for his support as he has given to his child as a second grade teacher. Mak I know the middle school staff aren't here today and I will own that. I got their um recognition to them a little bit later than I usually do. So, but we will recognize them nonetheless. So, our first positive descriptive praise um goes to Miss Victoria Cobberly and it's from Miss Winona Jackson. Um it recognizes her support and her encouragement and encourages her. Miss Cobberly is a pair professional in our building and it says, "I am so happy that you are back and you
get to work with us again." Um, she's had some health concerns and is back with us. We're so happy she's here. Woohoo. Good. The second one is from for Miss Jenny Stanfield and it comes from Joan Parker also for support and encouragement. Jenny is our um special education facilitator here at the middle school. Um for those of you who don't know, she's been in that position for quite a while and she's one of the reasons our sped department functions in general. Um and it says, "Thank you for your ongoing kindness and support. We couldn't do any of this work without you." Woohoo. And our last is an anonymous um recognition to Miss Mary Louisa for her work, effort, encouragement, and praise. Uh Miss Mary Louisa is also pair professional as well as well as a
parent in our community. And it says, "Thank you for everything that you do. I couldn't do this without you and I can't wait to work with you again next year." I'm going to stand in for Mr. Anderson tonight. He is very under the weather. Uh his first one goes to Michelle Calderon. Thank you for all that you do for our students and for always having a positive learning environment. And that is from Nancy Mareno. The second one was for Joseé Guarda came from Chris Marinthal. Jose, you're always a pleasure to talk with. Your kids can really tell how much you care about them from Mr. Marinthal. And I don't think And the last one goes to Greg Callahan from Miss Shannon King. Greg, it is so fun watching you interact with your students. They really
love working with you and your warm greetings every morning from Miss Ostram King. And now I'm going to invite our principles up to do their staff spotlight. I'll go ahead and go. Um, I wanted to recognize Mr. Pat Dennett. He is not here today. Uh, he is retiring at the end of the school year. So, our Newport family wanted to thank Mr. De Bennett as he leaves us at Newport. He is retiring at the end of the school year. He's leaving as he began his career as he was a teacher and started at Newport. So, wanted to thank him for all that he's done for us at Newport each and every day and that he will be missed. She's here. >> Our staff spotlight at Oakrest goes out to Bridget Gollik. We are delighted to
welcome back Miss Bridget Gollik, a true creative leader at Oakrest. Her exceptional expertise is rooted in a deep understanding of preschool standards, which she translates into standardsbased instruction. Miss Gollock fosters powerful learning by consistently providing exceptional one-to-one and small groupoup support, ensuring every child receives individualized attention. A signature of her teaching is the engaging experimental play that she uses to make learning vibrant and joyful. Furthermore, her strategic use of visual schedules which are posted throughout the classroom and actively used by students provides essential support for students learning and independence. Thank you, Bridget. >> We got a fan club out there. Our staff spotlight goes to Miss Zoe Porter. Zoe Porter is our school nurse. Um, I'm very biased towards nurses. I think they are the best. Um, but it does say nurse nurses are truly
the lifeblood of our community. Zoe embodies all that it takes to support staff and students. From collaboration to care, she supports everyone who comes through her office and we couldn't do this without her. Um, nurses appreciation day was last week, so shout out to all the school nurses. Thank you, Zoe. Um, I don't think Matt's here, but I have the pleasure of highlighting our music teacher. Uh, Matt Steam exemplifies a deep commitment to meeting the developmental needs of every student he serves. He understands that students grow at different paces and brings patience and intentionality to his instruction. By creating a supportive classroom environment, he allows students to take risks, build confidence, and develop a genuine appreciation for music. And his enthusiasm for music is contagious, and students are eager to participate and grow under his
guidance. Um, he also actively seeks ways to refine his craft, enhance student learning experiences. He embraces new ideas and perspectives, and recognizes that growth is an ongoing process. We are lucky to have him. Thank you, Matt. And I'm going to do Mr. Anderson's. He chose Alberto who is their custodial um maintenance staff. Alberto works tirelessly behind the scenes each day to ensure our building runs smoothly. His quiet dedication, dependability, and responsiveness do not go unnoticed. Whether addressing immediate con needs or supporting planned events, Alberto consistently goes above and beyond to help our staff. During recent water emergencies, he acted quickly and followed protocol to prevent what could have been major disruptions. His calm, proactive approach makes a significant difference in our school community. Thank you, Alberto, for taking such pride in your work and for
being an essential part of our team. I believe we have two district champion awards. Miss Young, would you like to do your two district champion awards? Cuz these were both nominated by Miss Young. >> I don't have a copy of them. >> Would you like them? >> Yes, please. Sure, you can do a gist. So, our first one goes to our O press PTO. Um, they have truly embodied the portrait of a learner uh that our school district has worked very hard on. So through consistent collaboration with staff and school leadership, our PTO plays a vital role in creating opportunities that enhance both academic and social emotional experiences for students. They have directly supported student learning by funding and organizing field trips, allowing students to extend their learning beyond the class beyond the classroom and
engage in real real world experiences. Um, in addition, the PTO has also supported a wide range of student activities, sponsored dances, and school events hosted our book fairs, all while promoting literacy, um, and building excitement around reading while conjoining that with some of our student activities that happen in our school. Um, these efforts create meaningful experiences that build community, encourage student engagement, and ensure that students feel valued, included, and inspired to learn. PO members, come on up to the stage because we have two things for you. >> And they are Janet Nemo, Erica Sneder, Claudia, how do I say your last name? >> Azim Mundi, sorry. Christina Crop, Violet and Israel, Duran, Magna Pala, and Julie Belly. Thanks for all you're doing. And then our second one is for Nandy Baker. Um she is our
champions director at Oakrest and she exempli exemplifies the values and vision of beach park through her unwavering commitment and empower to empowering students to learn lead and succeed as a part of our connected community. Not only does she lead before and after school programming, but she also creates a safe, structured, and enriching environment where students can continue their learning beyond the school day. We also have a student who likes to make sure his mom picks him up at like 5 or 5:30 and no second beforehand. Like she'll wait in the parking lot because Miss Andy's that that great. Um she intentionally fosters opportunities for academic support, collaboration. She also sits on our PTO. Um she builds strong relationships with our students and maintains high expectations that helps them develop the confidence, independence, and sense of
belonging after school hours. Miss Nandy Baker. All right, two reminders. 8th grade graduation is coming up. It's May 26th, Tuesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Genese Theater. you can't come, please let Diana and I know our summer hours will begin on the week of June 1st. Um, so the district office will be closed on Fridays starting the week of June 1st. The final school calendar for 2526 uh is going to be submitted to the ISB and the ROE and this is just to simply confirm that we've completed all required attendance days this school year. So this is just a step in the process we have to complete. And the last thing on my superintendent report is for Ms. Tracy Griffiths. Mrs. Tracy Griffith to come to the podium and she is going to
talk about our fall to winter I Ready scores. Yeah, we're way behind. We were supposed to do it in March and we couldn't. Uh so she is here today to talk fall to winter I Ready scores for the district. >> Okay, I'm a lot shorter than everybody else that was up here apparently. Good evening. So, tonight we're finally going to go over our I Ready winter benchmarking which took place in December um before winter break. Um we typically do this a little earlier, but I think we had a snowstorm and conferences and such. So, here we are. So, tonight's objectives, we're going to review district goals. Um, we're going to review the school and district data, discuss I Ready growth in grade level proficiency, and then what to expect in the spring. Um, which students
started this week taking I Ready again and what our next steps are. How does this align with our district strategic plan? It's under um students safe, valued, and challenged. And we want to ensure continued academic growth and achievement. So this year um we set a goal and we we kept it the same as last year just because we knew with new curriculum materials there would be some challenges. Um so our target this year was 53% of students will hit their growth target for I Ready ELA and math which is 50% of their yearly projected growth target. So what I Ready does is it gives each student a projected growth target to get to by the end of the year. So in the winter we expect them to be at 50%. Here's your key for scoring.
So excellent would be 81 to 100, proficient 53 to 80, needs improvement 29 to 52% and um unsatisfactory of 0 to 28%. So our overall I already growth for the district um in the winter you can see each grade band and the schools. So our average total was 52% um for house 52% for Kenneth Murphy 5% for Newport 63% for OC and 50% um for BPMS. And I'm going to go over some wonderings um in just a few minutes. For math, we have um 52%. So, three of our five schools made their growth target. Um how was just right under at 52% and then math for BPMS was at 45%. I want to remind you though too that BPMS also um were given new math materials this year. So they were um learning new ELA
materials and math materials. So these are our average scores. So three of our schools um overall growth made the 53% mark. um how was just right under now this is the slide that I think is most important looking at growth is wonderful but what we're really concerned with is what our students are doing to get closer to grade level proficiency and so I think looking at grade level profic proficiency is a lot more um telling than our our ready data. So if you look, we are consistently moving toward grade level proficiency. If you looked in the fall to the winter, which was the middle of the school year, we improved by 11% ELA, as well as math. So our students are moving closer to where they are expected to perform um for their grade level.
So I kind of went over this on this slide. I know I'm going fast. I was told to be fast tonight. Um, so our students are on or grade students on or above grade level has increased by 201. Students one grade level below decreased by 59 students and students two or more grade level below have decreased by 109 students. So you can see the consistency of students moving closer to grade level. Math, same thing. 180 students moved um towards grade level proficiency. Um one grade below increased by 3% and more grade levels below decreased by 233 students. So those students are all moving closer to their grade level standards. So I wanted to put this in there because yes, we got new materials. They're not magic. Um, so I figured you might have a few
wonderings tonight. So why all the yellow when most were in the green last year? Well, the first year of any type of curriculum implementation, you're going to see a little bit of a dip. Teachers are trying to adapt to the new materials. We're filling gaps between our frameworks and our new uh more rigorous materials that we have this year and the teachers are becoming comfortable um with the pace and the rigor. So especially in our middle of the year, we were still kind of in that in that stage. So all throughout the year, we've been providing teachers with um coaches on SIP days. We've had different institute day trainings. Coaches have come in um and met with grade level teams. They've gone into classrooms. These are coaches from the HMH program as well as our
instructional coaches. Um, and then I just put a little blurb on there. So, what's the difference between growth on I Ready and movement toward grade level proficiency. So, the growth on I Ready is just that we're getting to that 50% mark. Um, and then the grade level proficiency charts are showing the number of students that are growing closer to what is expected for their grade level standards. So, a few celebrations. We are moving in the right direction. Um, math is becoming a bright spot and we you if you haven't been here as long as I have been, math, um, we adopted Bridges math probably eight or nine years ago. So now we're finally seeing like cons some consistency there. uh grade level proficiency is improving across content areas and our littles which I didn't go
over that slide but you can look in the presentation they are doing a fabulous job and being in a kindergarten class this year has been way different than kindergarten in the past just with the vocabulary they're using sentence writing and and all of the skills that they're learning this year that are a bit more rigorous than they have been in the past. So, next steps in the spring, um I am going to update some charts with our scores for the end of the year so that you can review those. Um we will be reviewing action steps at each building and we're going to also determine if I Ready is the best tool for benchmarking our students. HMH is tied to MAP testing. So, we've had those discussions. Um summer we're going to continue to examine
our ELA curriculum material. the coaches and I are creating a pacing guide for K8 ELA and 6 through8 math. Um, and then we're going to look at our current content area curriculum frameworks and update update those as needed. Questions? Thank you very much. All right. Thank you. And that is all I have for my superintendent report. Thank you, Dr. Wilcox. Do I have a motion to approve the agenda? >> Sold. >> Second. >> Roll call. >> Goer. >> I. >> Andy Luther. >> Hi, >> Kelly Rogers. >> Hi. >> Nicole Butler. >> I Marsha White. >> I Ger. >> Hi. >> All right. Do we have any correspondence? >> Any questions on old business? under new business, long range planning. Andy, >> thank you. Uh, long range planning did meet this past week. In our
board packet, there was a report from Tim regarding buildings around many of the projects. Hope you had a chance. So, again, couple things we're working on that don't did show up. The report is an ocean road property. Still working on trying to find someone to do demolition for us. Hopefully we'll find something soon to be able to work on that in the summer and fall. And we're also still waiting the Orest sign, street sign. It's been in the works for 6 8 months and still waiting for a day for installation. So hopefully that will be in before school starts again in the fall to be determined. >> Thank you, Andy. Finance committee report. Good evening. Um we met this evening on the finance committee and um couple of items that we discussed on the agenda
uh the tenative amendment for the budget. Um the change that we we discussed that and I think it's going to be presented tonight. Um we also discussed school fees um and that's going to be presented to the board for approval today. So those are the two items that we discussed. So, and we also approved the uh treasurer bills and um >> thank you. Since Andrea isn't here and I know they haven't had a meeting, so there will not be a seat report. Any questions or comments on building reports? Any questions or comments on department reports? Oh, sorry. whispering. All right. Um so tonight, um it's going to be a short presentation on the amended budget for FY26. Um, so the the requirements for to amend a budget are exactly the same as it is for
the original budget. We have to post the notice in the newspaper. Um, put it on public display for 30 days and then have a budget hearing. So, it'll be in the newspaper tomorrow in the Lake County News Sun. Uh, and we will have the hearing before the board meeting in June. Once that's once it's approved, we submit it to Isby. We have 30 days to do that after it's adopted. So the reasons for the amended budget um school code says that uh administrative expenses are limited to 5% over the previous year's expenditures. So you can only budget 5% more than you spent the year before. We were at 6%. So the correction to do that is to amend the budget and fix that. So, it was the original budget increased well, it was a 6%
budget over last year. To correct it was a $4,600 adjustment. So, that was made. Um, there are other also a couple other adjustments. Um, there are some personnel adjustments cuz now we know more who is contracted and maybe we filled some positions with uh actual employees instead of contracted service. So, there's some corrections there. and grant allocations change throughout the year. So as those, you know, now that we know kind of what those are where we really don't at the beginning of the year, there are some adjustments made to that as well. So the original budget was we we had approved a $61,100 deficit. For the amended budget, it's $59,61 deficit. So we actually it's a $1,498 difference $98 difference from the original budget to the amended budget. So the next steps are that we
accept the amended budget tonight, put it on display in the newspaper tomorrow. Uh that will indicate when the public hearing is and will also indicate that it'll be on public display in the office for 30 days. And then we will uh hold the public hearing in June before the board meeting and then submit it to the to Isby and to the county clerk late county clerk. There any questions? Thank you very much. Thank you Frank. Do we have any questions or comments? Okay. Do I have a motion to adjourn to close session? Motion. >> Roll call. >> Butler. >> I Andrew. >> Hi. >> Tina Biter. >> Hi. >> Kelly Roberts. >> Hi. >> Cory Ger. >> Hi. >> Marsha White. >> Hi. And All right. Do you have a motion to approve the 2526 final calendar? >> So second. >> Roll call. >> Patina Goitzer. >> I. Nico Butler. >> I. >> Andy Luther. >> Hi. >> Holly Roberts. >> Hi. >> Giser. >> Hi. >> Marsha White. >> I. >> Okay. The board has completed the review of the student disciplinary matter and I ask for a motion. I move to uphold the suspension with the modification of the log entry in power school. >> Second call. >> Kelly Roers. >> Hi Latina Gowitzer. I >> Butler. >> Nay Cory Ger. >> Hi. >> Marsha White. >> Hi. >> Andy. >>
Nay. >> All right. So basically we are upholding it but we are changing the wording in the uh power school. >> Okay. You might as well tell them what >> yeah what it is. >> So we talked through what the current entry says and we're we're taking out any reflection on the that matches the letter correction with the throwing paper books. Um it will say uh the student was reported to have been roughousing on the floor of the classroom as the log entry. And then in the comment section it will read that per board policy 7.190 section 21 student actions in the classroom disrupted the learning and created an unsafe environment. So it it reflects what the board policy is as we have the the guidance that we use. So that it takes away any
mention of other students and it it cleans it up to reflect what the letter was that you received. >> Uh I have a question. So based on what evidence did you find the roughousing or alleged wrestling on the ground to be true? It was based on the the letters that the students wrote, the discussion that Miss Meeks had with the students and you guys didn't get to hear that that there was a restorative circle that took place. He had asked about the restorative practices and um she met with 10 11 students and at that time she pulled all of them to discuss um their actions, their consequences that they took and then she took into account and shared with us the letters and the student discussion. And we recognized that you had mentioned that there
were inconsistencies, but it was observed the the we listed as roughousing, not roughousing, wrestling, or what was it? Throwing. Yeah, it was just roughousing. >> When you say you you uh used the students letters, not one letter from the student described him roughousing, rolling around on the floor. The only person that said that was the teacher a week later after being prompted by the principal. So, >> but the the letter written a week later parallels what the teacher told this makes the data. So, why it was physically written a week later, it was verbally given at the time and what was written agrees with what was said. >> Okay. So, we still are unclear of what led her to believe he was wrestling. I don't I'm still not clear on that. That's what I've been
trying to to understand. >> Her observation of breath housing. >> What is that? >> I Mrs. I apologize. I would have >> I don't know either. That's why >> it's what she reported to Miss Meeks was roughousing and that's what we have to go by. We have to uphold what the sub reported to the principal is rough housing. So it's we're working to clean up the power school entry. So >> reflects the letter that you received that cleaned up letter that removes the paper throwing, pencil throwing, and book throwing. >> Those are all tapped out. >> So I just want to make sure I'm clear. So, you're basing your decision based on the teacher's comment or letter. >> Even though, excuse me, since we are live streaming, I know you have some more questions. Yes,
>> I would suggest setting up a meeting with Dr. Wilcox and she can talk a little bit more about some of the things that we when we talked with the principal and other details that we've received. No. >> Okay. Thank you for your time. Will we get this uh in writing this decision? Will we get a written decision? >> That decision will be in our minutes and that would be in writing. But certainly Power School will reflect. It'll be a day or two from now. You go look at your students power school records. It should stay. >> But we won't we won't be able to get anything physical of this finding >> in the board. Yeah. And where is that? Where is that located? >> A month from now. It'll be on the on the
district's website after they're approved. >> So Oh, so we have to wait in a month to get that official um decision. We're just trying to do something. The official decision will be included today on this upholding the suspension. >> Okay. Thank you. Wait, do I have a motion for second? >> Roll caller. >> I ro I market white. >> I ger. I Butler. I >> thank you. 10.
