Good evening. It is 6:02. We do have a quorum present. Um if you guys will join me pledge of pledge of allegiance. [clears throat] I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America. [clears throat] All right. Well, we have a full room today. Thank you guys for all coming out. We appreciate them. >> It's usually not this many people in here. Good to see. [sighs and gasps] Okay, so item three, consent agenda. We have a motion on the floor and a second to consent agenda. >> Uh, actually, I think we can do both of those, right? >> Yeah, you say we can. So, I move that we approve adopt this month's agenda as well as approve the minutes from the previous meeting of August 10th. >> Okay, we have a motion on

the floor to consent agenda. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay, we have a motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes unanimously. Item four, uh, board business discussion and consideration of, uh, to approve candidates, uh, to fill the board vacancies. So, [clears throat] so just to kind of fill you in how that all went down, uh, we got five letters of interest. Um, we're very happy to see the outcome of all of that. Super excited to have great candidates to choose from. Um, with that being said, the process was uh we ranked first, we gave the first person that we ranked five points, the second person uh received three points and the third person received one point. Um, we submitted those numbers to Superintendent Pierce

and the two highest numbers are the people that um are up for the positions tonight. Okay. Um those those uh two positions was Mr. uh Garnett and Mrs. Elder Megan. Okay. >> Have have the filled out. >> Oh >> we have the honorable Mr. Judge Mlan in in the house today. Thank you for joining us. >> Yes, sir. Um, actually we need to have a motion. Uh, >> we have a motion and a second on the floor to um approve these two members. >> Move to appoint them. >> Move to appoint. There we go. >> I move that we appoint the new board members to the Dexter School Board. >> I'll second that with a thank you to everybody that >> So we have we have a motion. >> Awesome. So, we have a motion

and a second to appoint the two highest scoring members. Um, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes unanimously. Awesome, sir. Thank you. Um, >> Mr. Garnett, I don't I'm not sure. I did contact him just now to see if he was coming and he is not. So, we may have to have you come back next meeting. Oh, you went through your spot. >> That's >> I >> Megan Falder. Do solemnly swear >> Do solemnly swear >> that I will support the Constitution of the United States >> that I will support the Constitution of the United States >> of the Constitution laws of the state of New Mexico >> and the Constitution of the Laws of the State of New Mexico >> and I will faithfully and partially >> and that I will

faithfully and partially >> restore the duties of office >> of school board member >> of the school board member >> on which I am about to enter >> on which I'm about to enter >> in the best of my ability so help me >> the best of my ability so help me Sarah sign. >> Can I get you to >> here? Use the black. >> No, I think it's just uh the 14th >> come and join us. You can >> get to that one and then uh I'll be getting [clears throat] about Thank you. Thanks for your time. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> And again on that um thanks to Kelly and Linda who served and recently stepped down, right? We appreciated um everything you did for us >> of appreciation for them. Yes.

>> For both of them. >> So hopefully we'll we will get to see them soon, award them with that. Um and but we were so thankful, right? We were wondering how many are we going to get? And we did. We had five great applicants come in and and we were able to interview them and so we appreciate that. Right. We get to see one of them here tonight and we're excited for that. [laughter] >> So get Miss Pierce gets skele over there. I'll take a moment and elaborate on that. Um so I did type something up for um Mrs. is Linda Lopez and uh Hilly Kobos. And I'd like to read it now. I was going to do it under board reports, but I'll go ahead and take care of it now. So, I'd like

to take a moment to recognize and thank C uh two dedicated members of our board of education. Miss Kelly Kobos has given four years of leadership and Miss Linda Lopez has contributed two years of thoughtful service and leadership as well. While they aren't with us in person this evening, uh we didn't want to let this moment pass without expressing our sincere gratitude on behalf of the entire district and community. Thank you, Miss Kobos and Miss Lopez for your time, care, commitment, and commitment to the students, staff, and families. We wish you all the best in what comes next. >> So, thank you guys very much for all the time given to the community. >> Yes. Okay. Um, let me see. Item five, uh, presentation of the proficiency awards. >> Absolutely. Uh, Miss Watson is going

to go ahead and provide that board president Davalos, members of the board, and superintendent Perce. It is a huge honor tonight to celebrate um, only a few of our students that received proficiency. So, just a little background and especially for our new board member, welcome. Um, every year our students who are identified as English learners are required to take a test called the access test. >> Um, it measures their ability to read, write, speak, and listen to English. Um, in order to reach proficiency, the state identified 4.7 and above as that cutoff. Um, last year, I believe we had five. Um, this year we had 12. And so, we doubled. Uh we have huge goals moving forward. We've done a lot of great things um with our students, but we're looking forward to doing more.

And I'm super excited for the students and families that could join us tonight to just be recognized because um bilingualism is a gift. And so this is just one small portion of what these students can do because these students also speak their home language, which is just such a huge blessing for them and for us. And so I'm really excited to represent them today. So when I call your name, I'm going to have you come up. You'll get your certificate and then you can shake everybody's hands as you go so that we can just celebrate you for your hard work and achievement. Okay. >> Let that dexter edge shine. >> Yeah. So, first up we have Jasine Herado Elings. >> Thank you. No, she has an awesome jersey, >> Angel Fernandez. Well done. >> Good

job, Angel. >> Yeah, Angel. >> Good job. >> Our next student is at practice, so that's another thing. It's it's sports season, all the things. But we are so happy to have his parent here, Yuriel Barasa. And is gonna do some We also know at home there's a lot of work going on to reach these goals. So, thank you. >> And then returning have to go home and shake him. >> Returning to us uh because he graduated already but reached out proficiency as a senior. We're so excited to also have Angel Johnson. [laughter] And like I said, there are several other students. We will be reaching out to parents of those students so that they can also come get their certificate. Um there's so many things going on. We know it's hard, but we are

just so proud of them and we look forward to next year. Hopefully, we're going to need like a whole chunk of time to celebrate all the kiddos reaching. >> Thank you for coming. >> Thank you guys. and you will stay free if you want to go home and eat. >> So, >> item item six, reports. >> Thank you guys. >> Good job, guys. >> Board reports. >> Well done. >> Um, anything else we'd like to add or border reports? Good. I don't think anyone um what has happened since the last >> I loved I loved all the information that was provided to us by the administrators this this time around and read many of them more than once because it was just such good information. And personally, I have to say that I'm so glad

to have the band back >> and they they are just doing an awesome job and the cheerleaders came and helped at the uh Wacky Wednesday last week and they did an awesome job. So, we're just blessed with all these kids doing great things and I'm really proud of all of them. And I keep hearing about my my little guys are in uh elementary, so they're always coming home and and saying the cheerleaders greeted us or football team greeted us. That that really is special. So >> cross country was this last week and they see Mr. Lovelin and they they were like, >> "What is he part of?" My kids were like, "I don't know." And and Luke was like, "It was for sure Skills USA." And I said, "That's who does cross country." And then

Luke was like, "Yes, that's what I want to do." So, [laughter] you had to announce yourself as something needed a sign. >> Yeah, you did. You did need a sign, but it's okay. I think we've tried to rotate this year between who's going over there. Yes. >> And not only does it >> it gives parents a opportunity to talk to their kids about the options and the things that we offer. And so, um, I'm all the programs. >> Yeah. That we're continuing to do that. So, sign. >> Awesome. Good job. Okay. Okay. Item 6B, superintendent report. >> Um, so you have a report in front of you. Um, it's not too too long. Um, today they released accreditation as well as the New Mexico Vista's report. Um, so both of those are live. You can

see them um online. That is what we have for next board meeting to focus on in terms of looking at our data. So, I don't want to take too much time, but you may hear in the next few weeks that it is up. It is going. Um, feel free to get on and and look at either one of those. Um, but for right now, that is our next um month's priority. And this month's priority was BO data. Um, so I took BOI data from our K through 2 grade group, which does I station. It has both names. Um, and you'll notice on this first graph that this is our Amira math data for BI this year, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Our kindergarteners are coming in. Um, so green is all proficient. So there's

different layers of green, right? Um, as it gets darker, it turns into advanced. Um, but we have 51% of our kindergarteners came in um, proficient. So, that's saying a lot because our parents are doing a lot before they're entering kindergarten to help us out. Um, and then we move to first grade and we have >> I didn't I should have uh you know added these up before we're here on the spot, but 68% of our first graders um on the BOI were proficient in the area of math. And that says a lot for our kinder teachers, right? As they came in, we have now transitioned them um further and further. So you'll notice Amira is first. It is the green and red graphs along with our Amira reading and it kind of flip-flopped how it

looks. Um so we have kindergarten, first grade and second grade proficiency as well. And then the third page um is for our first graders. Every year by the 40th day our first graders are in school, we have to screen them for dyslexia and they give us a lot of different ways to do that, but Amira does it as it takes in other information. So we go ahead and utilize that so we're not giving them another assessment on top of what we're already giving. This year's first grade group, we have 8% of students um who were reported reading at risk. So 91% of our first graders this year um are not at risk for dyslexia. So that's a big jump as well. Um the next set of slides is our 2026 3rd through 8th grade achievement

scores. Remember this is beginning of year scores and students are tested upon the entire grade level, right? So, what do they know at this point in time at the beginning of the year in that grade level? Couple highlights that I wanted to put out there is uh our fourth grade students, 31% of them were proficient starting the school year um on the fourth grade standards that they were assessed on. And that was in the area of oh reading. Sorry. At the top you can see the at the top it says reading and then that's the score. The one I really kind of wanted to focus on is the last page. So I took data from last September a August and this year's data and we compared last year's third graders to this year's fourth graders

last year's fourth graders to to this year's fifth graders because it's the same kids. So we looked at cohort information um and you will see that we had some really strong gra um gains for students. So last year's third graders, this year's fourth graders, same kids. Last year at the beginning of the year, 7% of those students were on target. This year 31% are on target for reading. So in one year a lot of growth u for our kids in that area. Um even when we look at mathematics where we're not seeing as large of numbers, we're still seeing growth trends in terms of where they started last year and where we're at this year um in almost every area as well. Um and then the language usage also some big growth. um reading and

language usage are obvious strengths of ours and so we know that mathematics is somewhere we need to to put a lot of focus in for the next uh MOI and EOI. So >> one more little something so that way whenever you're looking at this the one that says need support the first number is the number or the percentage of kids last year who needed support and the percentage of kids who are considered need support this year. So on the first line 67% of our third graders last year came in testing. It's the very first time they take that test as need support and reading. This year is fourth graders only 29% of our fourth grade cohort is at the needs support level. So we have grown towards that proficiency on target too. So a lot

of good a lot of good things happening in our classrooms. >> Nice strong work. [clears throat] >> So that very first graph. >> Yes. >> Why is there such a shift there? It looks like we have really strong math education in the first grade and then all of a sudden it jumps to second grade and it's as if they've lost it. Is there a big math uh like a lot of standards and stuff they're having to pick up there? >> So there so in kinder and first grade a lot of the times it's skills and isolation. By the time we reach second grade even in mathematics it's a lot of being able to read in mathematics. And so, yes, we have a percentage, but can they apply that comprehension in reading to mathematics? Um, that's

that's a big part of it. I won't say that it's all of it, but there's a giant shift there. Um, as kids begin to not just learn to read, they're reading to learn. Um, so yes, I know all the phonics skills, but am I utilizing them to further my knowledge? and >> makes sense. >> Is the new math program going to lend to >> help with the >> I'm really excited about the new um math program. I have not seen any um because we have a different one in prek or kinder through fifth and then we have a different one in our middle school. So we are observing that we're, you know, taking data from that information. I think what we'll really know is by the end of this school year, right? It takes an

entire year for teachers to get very comfortable with new curriculum. Um because there's so much else going on, they understand the math concept, but in terms of utilizing the curriculum in its own right, it takes a while. Um, so it will take us a while to really understand if it and the curriculum doesn't fix anything. People are the ones who teach the curriculum and that's who makes the real difference for our kids. >> It helps. But >> well, the teachers picked it. So, >> absolutely. And they did they did a really good job researching. So, I'm excited as we look into reading for this school year. Um, because of the amount of time they put into math, I'm sure we're fixing to put that same into reading. um which will give us some >> This

is a reading adoption year. >> It is a reading adoption year. >> It takes a lot of time to put all this together. Thank you. >> Yes. Thank you. That's a lot of great data. Thank you. >> And also gives us a baseline as to where we were, where we're at today, and also where we're headed with the uh strategic plan as well. All that. >> Yes. And so with the strategic plan, next month when we talk about Vistas, we'll compare our last year's the goals we set out for our strategic plan and where we are um that way too. So that way you can kind of see the growth that we've made there. Um but we would be here forever if we talked about all of the >> Yeah, I'm with Thank you. >>

Thank you. Yes. So, item 6C, administrators report. Um, was somebody going to present this time or >> I I don't have anyone to present, but did you have any questions, comments as you read through them, things that you wanted to highlight? >> Well, I just felt like they were full of of good information. um gave us an a little insight to what's happening in each of the buildings and I enjoyed reading them very much. This week is or book fair is swam book >> this week entirety is book fair and then tomorrow morning from 7 to 9 is donuts with demons. >> I keep hearing about those donuts with demons. [laughter] I also keep hearing about the library. What is it the My kids keep asking. They're like, "Oh, how can I have $5, $10,

$20 for the book fair?" Yeah, >> that's what it is. Yeah, >> it's everybody's favorite. >> They got to work for it though first. They got to go clean water troughs. >> Just a note that I think this is for our student councils at all three levels. Um, we are utilizing them to raise and lower the flags every day. So, um, Mr. Ferguson did a little howto with them about the flag, how to care for it, how um what all of the stripes, everything mean. And then we put them responsible for doing that um each day. Our elementary is not quite up and and running yet as they're still trying to get their student council right. Okay. I'm like I'm making sure. But we are hopeful that our students will take that over and that

way when we do have the flag at half mass, it's another teaching point to students on why is this and what does this look like. So kudos to Mr. Ferguson for doing that. I know that um that was in the reports and then trying to think of other information that it was a lot. Um, another something I wanted to point out is on the athletic activity report at the bottom, um, you'll notice that there's a list of all the fundraisers going on. So, if you're wondering what's happening out there, we do have a list of all the the fundraisers. >> Does that include the enchilada summer? >> It is listed there. >> Yeah, it is. It should be on here. So, we run um through success fund. So for somebody to request a fundraiser like

I as the teacher would go and I'd put it in success fund and then that's how um this is a list from there that they've requested to have a fundraiser >> and all these are pretty much going on simultaneously. >> Yes. Interesting. >> And so at any given time though some of them fall off um so like yearbook sales are on there all year long. However, you know, boys basketball who are selling sponsors may only be until November. >> Yeah. >> So, we'll try to keep that updated. >> And so, that coffee cart is going again at 7 a.m. on Tuesdays. >> It is on Wednesdays now. >> Noted. >> So, coffee cart on Wednesdays out here um in the alley. You can enter through those doors. >> FYI. Well, all of you know, but

that's now a thing. I love to go and get one for me and then I have my dad meet me somewhere on the way. >> Really? That's >> Yeah. Do I drink coffee? No, I drink like this much, then hand it off to someone at work. >> But there's other options. They have tea. They have matcha. They have a drink of the week or of the month based upon whatever's going on. So, >> start coming. >> Yeah. So, we'll have to see what cross country inspired them to make. >> Cross country. Um, another report that if you'll take just a moment to look at is the transportation report. >> At the very bottom of that report, you'll notice that we are keeping a log of all the vehicles in our fleet. And then you can

see what kind of vehicle they are, um, how many their passenger, their current status, if they're in our, um, fleet being currently used, as well as, um, their mileage. >> I see. We hoped that this would help whenever we get ready to buy a new vehicle or even delete one off of inventory. You've seen it on here and that way you're seeing how much we're using it or how many miles it's getting up to. I really enjoyed reading about the Stopfinder, the parent app for bus riders and parents because, you know, over the years that's such a problem if a kid doesn't get off a bus and and we have to backtrack to figure out. >> The stopfinder is also really helpful because let's say that we're held up here at the school waiting on

some kid and we're five minutes later than we typically are. Um, parents can actively view that the bus is five minutes later on its journey. So that way you know where you're at, where it's at. >> That's awesome. That is awesome. >> All right. So item seven, public forum. Do we have anybody on the >> No, we're good. Okay. Thank you. Okay. Item eight, business, approval of out ofstate travel. >> Um, so I'd recommend approval of both of these. I think we have both of them here. And so I would like for them to even just talk a little about the trip in general. And so we'll stop start with the ASHA conference which is for um SLPs. >> Absolutely. No, right there is perfect. >> Um, so ASHA is the American Association. So that

is the accreditation that provides my clinical my certificate of competence as speech language pathologist. Um once a year they do an inperson um it's a mass continuing education professional development conference. Um and it is literally over 2,000 hours of professional development that you can squeeze into three days. >> Wow. [laughter] Um it's a variety of posters but also presentations and seminars. It's the where they present the most recent research um a lot of really good information uh networking evidence-based practice and how things are changing especially with the conversation specifically I think it's really relevant when we talk about autism and all of our students who are struggling with any form of neurode diverency um they do a lot of really cool presentations and they actually present people who um are so bad. I am so

sorry. You wouldn't tell the world. >> You're fine. So they actually even have speakers are really suffering from any of the diagnosis that we treat and what work with which is so incredibly important to hear their voices and know kind of what they they want and how what we do affects them as adults. Um especially like I work for the sales for success group across all schools. So like knowing what would impact them the most and how to benefit them as an adult moving into her world and seeing how um I can support functional communication. Um like for example so one of the things they're they're presenting on um teachers perceptions of students receiving speech services in like the rural South Texas school district like they have posters about like how do teachers actually perceive

their students who are receiving their services? How do we um bridge the gap teachers who might have a lower opinion or not fully understand what um our students need and how to meet those needs? Um and there's also a ton of stuff like on literacy based stuff because we also literacy which is so fun and I'm learning a lot about that. Um so presentations on helping preschoolers and supporting literacy in the classroom and bridging the gap for our students who are learning to read and increasing those outcomes for um our kids with learning disabilities starting out as young as possible. Um and so it's just a fantastic opportunity. Unfortunately, they're all very far away. [laughter] Um and so we would love to be able to attend and just get as much out of this pos

back to our student spirit and help serve the community. There's a ton of bilingual content, multilingual content. >> Awesome. First year with your district, so it's been fantastic. >> Awesome. Well, we're we're happy to have you. Um look forward to you traveling and bringing some of that back home. >> A good place. It's a very interesting city to go to. [laughter] >> This is Ashley Shaw. We have the two Ashley's that we have speech language. >> Well, welcome to Dexter and thank you for the work you're doing with our kids. >> I get >> Yeah, I'm hoping to go uh to exotic Birmingham, Alabama. >> It's for the N. It's a mouthful. It's National Consortium of Health Science Educators. uh when I put standards on my lesson plans, they're half from the state, they're half

from the national consortium. Um so they really are the leading people in our in health science education, which is what I do. I'm on a vocational license, a nurse for 20 years and just got a key and stepped into teaching, right? Um and so it's just good to keep up on this stuff. I got to go two years ago and that's the whole reason I I figured out how to even offer some of the stuff we're doing. So for seniors this year, we got patient care tech which is kind of the new CNA. CNAs the nursing homes now patient care tech is hospital care um and we added EKG tech and phabbotomy tech this year and that's all because of this this been spring and so I'm just hoping to go again I've got a

whole new group of classes I'm teaching to keep us up with our CTE pathways um and I just learned a whole lot there so just just hoping to go to bed >> awesome that's good >> with that the ASHA conference would be paid through IDEA and then uh Mr. Loveland for the health science um ash for the national consortium for health science education um was written into the CTE grant. >> Cool. >> So okay. All right. Do we have a >> I move we approve the out of state travel for the ASHA conference and the national consortium of health science educators. >> Okay. We have a motion on the floor by Miss Miles. Do we have a second? >> Okay. Okay, we have a motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I.

>> Motion passes unanimously. Okay. Item 8B, first reading of policy K-0850, public gift donations to school. >> So, I recommend that we're going to amend our current policy. And you'll see that that policy um it changes because currently there's no dollar amount in our policy. And so looking at other school districts policy, we right now should have been bringing every single donation whether it's a $5 donation or 15 or 50 or a,000 25,000 donation to the school board. And so after looking at other districts, I think it's important that we set a guideline of what to bring forth to ask for. We will still now knowing this information provide a list of the other donations that we got. You know, then somebody gave $50 to the coffee cart when they came um as just a

sheer donation. But this gives us a dollar amount to stick to. And when looking at other districts, there was anything from uh $1,000 to $15,000. And I kind of thought this we're not having a whole lot um either way, but at least it gives us a dollar amount to start with. So >> So we're just going to amend the >> it it would be an amendment of the existing policy of almost all of them. That's what it has happened. And you'll notice in red is the amended version of that um >> that we want to approve, but we can't approve it tonight because this is a first reading for you guys to look at, discuss, and then >> we would bring it to the October meeting um as an approval item. >> You want us

to read it? >> We definitely can. >> Here's your favorite part. Would you like I don't mind reading. >> So well or I can >> go ahead. >> Previously it stated the board has the authority to accept gifts and donations as may be made to the district or to any school. >> So that would all stay. So all of the black would still continue to be in there. The red is just the added pieces. >> It continues as as it was. The board reserves the right to refuse to accept any gift that does not contribute toward the achievement of the goals of this district and the ownership of which would tend adversely to affect the district. And then the new verbiage is staff members will get proper approval prior to submitting grants and/or donations from

the principal, supervisor, superintendent, business office, and any other appropriate department. Any and all gifts, grants, and donations, including gifts or donations of a device, object, or a title to property, which have fair market value of less than $1,000, shall be subject to approval from the superintendent prior to acceptance by the district or individual school. Any and all gifts, grants, and donations, including gifts or donations of a device, object, or title to property, which have fair market value of $1,000 or more, shall be subject to approval from the superintendent in the board of education prior to acceptance by the district or an individual school. All gifts, grants, and requests shall become district property and subject to policies of the district. And then the old will continue. Any gift accepted by the board. That repeats itself, right?

Any gift accepted by the board shall become the property of the district may not be returned without the approval of the board and is subject to the same controls and regulations as are other properties of the district. The board shall be responsible for the maintenance of any gift it accepts unless otherwise stipulated. The board will make every effort to honor the intent of the donor in its use of the gift, but reserves the right to utilize any gift it accepts in the best interest of the educational program of district. In no case shall acceptance of a gift be considered to be an endorsement by the board of a commercial product or business enterprise or institution of learning. The super superintendent shall encourage individuals and organizations considering contributions to the school to consult with the superintendent

or the appropriate on the appropriateness of such gifts. Report to the board all gifts that had been offered to the district for their review and action. Acknowledge the receipt and value of any gift accepted by the district and prepare prepare fitting means as appropriate for recognizing or memorializing gifts to the district. Gifts shall be recorded in appropriate inventory listings and property records October 2026. >> And so this is just you know as a first reading. So >> thank you. Um, so I saw that Mr. Garnett is here. So you could move to go ahead and go back to item four. >> Yeah. >> 4B and we can >> we can proceed. >> And our judge came back. >> Yes. >> Thank you so much, judge. I make a motion that we return to item 4B

to swear in our new team member. >> We have a motion on the floor and a second. All in favor say I. I >> I motion passes unanimously. Mr. Garnett, would you mind joining us? >> I apologize for being late. I had 6:30 in my head for some reason. >> Y that's okay. [clears throat] >> He's gonna put you in his box. >> Oh, nice. >> [laughter] >> I Drew >> I Drew Garnett >> do solemnly swear >> that I will support the Constitution of the United States >> I will support the Constitution of the United States >> and the Constitution and law of the state of New Mexico >> and the Constitution and the law of the state of New Mexico. I just It just looks funny if you look at your list, there's an increase and a decrease for the same amount. >> Okay. Um, the others are transfers. At the bottom of your sheet, there is a definition of the different types of bars. If, for example, Miss Ferguson's wellness room was not approved in our July one budget, therefore they consider it an initial budget. Um, if we have an increase to a fund, we already have budget and we're going to add to it, then it's an increase bar. Same way works with a decrease. That's what you see in transportation like we talked earlier about what we got initially and then they increase to

it and then there are two types that transfer budgets. There is a transfer which makes sense. Um we it's our budget lines have different functions. If we're functioning sorry if we're transferring between functions it requires a transfer bar. the superintendent approves, you approve. Then PED has 30 days to approve. If the transfer is within that function, for example, instructional, we're just moving from instructional supplies to instructional software. That only takes board approval. So th those are the different kinds of funds, kinds of bars, sorry. And the the sheet I give you each month is just going to list what they are, but also in your folder is the bar itself. And if they have any documentation like the transportation or the wellness room, that's in your folder, too. But I'm happy to answer questions anytime.

And even not here. If y'all something hits you later, just just holler. [clears throat] >> Thank you. >> Okay. >> I recommend approval of the budget adjustments. >> Okay. I make a motion to look at watch. See? See, I can do this. I make a motion. Uh, actually, I move we approve budget adjustments. I forget how to do that. I haven't been doing it. >> Do you want to second your own? >> Do we have a second? >> I was just going to see if you're going to second your own. >> No, I can't do that. I can't do that. [laughter] >> Okay. So, we have a motion on the floor by myself and a second by Miss Miles. Um, we'll do a roll call for this one once again. Miss Scaldron. >> Okay. Ms.

Batista. >> Hi. >> Myself. I. Miss Miles. I >> uh Mr. Garnett >> abstain. Okay. Motion passes. >> Okay. 9C approval of wellness uh room grant. >> Um I recommend approval. These funds pay for 46% of our wellness room EA's gross salary. Um so we apply I don't apply. Miss Ferguson applies every year for that. Um and it helps compensate our EA in the wellness room. Um, for those newbies, our wellness room, um, is not like a nurse's office, but more of a mental health slash, uh, restorative justice, uh, how do we get kids to be here and the conversations around that. So, we utilize an EA in that way at the middle school um, to ask those questions and also to provide teachers support um, with students as well. So, did you have anything,

Cla? I didn't even ask you if you were going to speak on the wall of this room. >> I'm sorry. That's okay. You did a beautiful job and I I'm happy to answer questions or or elaborate, but her her submission was pretty on point. So, >> do we have students that utilize that room >> on a daily basis? It is very fluid. It it has kind of become the the heartbeat. >> Yes. >> Okay. I will just add this um the the work that is done in that particular uh space like I'm going to get emotional because I'm so passionate about this but um it it has allowed me to be a better instructional coach in my building because we are not I'm not gonna how do I say like harmony piece. That is what

we strive for, you know, just a space where everybody is comfortable. And um that particular room has has really been the what tip the scales for us to get to that point where I am now spending way less of my time putting out disciplinary fires and far more time supporting teachers on the instructional end of things. So >> interesting. >> It's been huge. >> Nice. also very excited that we um have the opportunity to start mentoring um municipal schools. >> They they've jumped on the restorative practices bandwagon. >> How did we open up [clears throat] this classroom? Like what did you go to a class and I'm sorry I'm new to so I'm the same answer any questioning um about this. Um so been in education a long time, right? And uh just through connection

from friends and colleagues was kind of a buzzword many years ago like we're in year six of our journey um at middle school and I just knew that something needed to shift, right? uh but I didn't know what that was and it was just through conversation and collaboration was exposed to this idea and then our partnership [clears throat] with Palms and Associates was able to be connected with Darren Walter who who is phenomenal and a close personal friend at this point. Um, but that is literally what he does is he he works for bonds and just spends his time champion championing >> champion. You say that well. Thank you. I'm tired. Um, and supporting districts in their implementation and he served as an SRO for for many years in a school district and just knew

that we had to shift the approach that we were taking to to student discipline. So, um, and then right place, right time, and good people willing to teach me. Well, I'm glad. >> Yeah, me too. Me, too. >> So, I've seen something similar where students that were excessively behind were pulled out of classrooms and sent to the a similar room uh to work on specific things. Is that [clears throat] somewhat how this room works? like I'm gleaning somewhat of that but I'm also seeing that there might be another function or modality to it. >> This space is very fluid. >> Okay. >> Um the the big umbrella is that we really strive to meet the needs of what wherever that particular individual is in that moment. Um, sometimes we have teachers will utilize that space

um to help students get caught up like if they've been traveling for multiple activities or works or whatnot, they need a quiet supervised space maybe to make up um a quiz, whatever, then absolutely we utilize um the restorative room for that. Um, another another really huge win for us is about two years ago, we had a young lady. We couldn't figure out why she wasn't coming to school in the morning. She'd be regularly at school in the afternoon, but could not get her to come to school in the morning. And having that restorative conversation with her, we realized that her anxiety was the cafeteria atmosphere. like we can fix that now that we know. And so once we allowed her, we put supports in place and allowed her um to have lunch in the restorative

room with Miss Sanchez, like problem solved. We didn't have an intense issue anymore. But we a we needed a space that was protected and supervised for that. And then we needed to acquire the skills to have those restorative conversations. Um, and last year we, Miss Sanchez and I made a trip to Raton. They were the flagship school district in the state of New Mexico. Um, they're our sister school now, you know, with restorative practices. And even just spending a day with them, we walked away with with some pretty phenomenal tools. Um, one that I would offer under the umbrella of attendance. So early onset anytime we start to see a pattern of chronic attendance um we will set a meeting we call them attendance support meetings and it's just to offer help and see if

there are barriers that we you know can assist with in removing or um point families in the right direction. So >> that is a little bit of the work that happens in that space >> but I believe in it. It's transformative. >> How are we able to cover the other 54% >> out of operational? So before uh we'd been covering it out of operational before she learned about this grant and so I think this is the second year for this grant. >> Oh yes. Yes. And so we we're [clears throat] covering out operational so it just eases the operational burden. >> Cool. Yeah, for sure. >> Thank you. I move that we approve the wellness room grant. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? We have a motion

and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes unanimously. Um item 9D, approval of out of school time grant. So, our out of schooltime grant, um, Miss Watson and I applied for, um, we were awarded $250,000. With approval tonight, we'll get started on expending that fund. Um, and in that grant, we wrote into it anything that our students opportunities that we could provide them that our school day doesn't. We gave a little bit of that money to tutoring, but I think the reason we were given such a large portion was because we thought outside the box. So, we put in there um fishing, um welding opportunities, uh disc golf. We have a a teacher who loves disc golf, so he'll be able to take students on field trips to some of

our courses that we have in our area. Um taking students to plays. um turn art club for high school, um drama club, wood shop, pinewood derby, uh soapbox derby. Those are two different things we learned. Um we did also uh write in there a Spanish club because, you know, we really want to give more opportunity for our bilingual students. So um flora culture, did you say >> electrical? So just a lot of like innovative um we did get the opportunity to add a little bit of robotics towards the end. >> I was gonna ask if that was and also hovercraft. So hovercraft and robotics um just like Miss Pierce said things that we can't offer during the day. Um this specifically is out of school time money that comes from House Bill 2. And if

with that we can pay staff, we can pay for supplies and materials and we can pay for transportation. um not only for field trips but if they stay after school and they need transportation home like we'll arrange that or if they come you know on a Friday for an activity we'll arrange transportation currently we have 11 teachers signed up we will be opening it to community members um because we have a little bit more money in the salary piece so um community members would of course have to go through a background check and stuff we do want to make sure people with our students are safe and then we will also open up an application for high school helpers um to come in and do some of that and then like I know right Now,

disc golf has about 100 kids signed up. I don't >> Their inaugural is tomorrow. He wanted to volunteer his time tomorrow to see how many kids would come. And so, >> yeah, because I said my favorite board approval, but he goes, can I do it on September 15th on my own time? I was like, I can't stop you. So, um, we're really excited for the interest. And moving forward, we really do want to make it more of a collaborative effort where we do get the chance to apply again. we bring those kids, those teachers and get their ideas to build into the grant. So, we're we're excited if you guys approve that this would be a great opportunity. >> It's out of school time at any time. So, after school, Fridays and Saturdays, over Christmas

break, over any of our breaks, uh, summer time. So, we can offer during other times. So, excited about >> this is like a sport kind of >> essentially. Yeah. Yeah. we cannot offer anything that NMAA offers and so that's why like you won't hear like soccer club or anything like that um you know because they're different different funding for that um but yes essentially we tried to do like sports CTE like career technical education a little bit of academics because you do have to bring that in there um and then just um some like agriculture as well >> I I do want to say kudos to you guys and hats off >> you guys go out and apply for all these grants. You know, it it takes it takes the burden off of the board

and the budget every time you guys go out. I've seen a lot of these things that if you don't apply, they fall to the cracks and they don't this stuff doesn't get brought back to the community. So, thank you guys so much for all of that. You know, we really really appreciate that and I'm sure the kids for sure do as well. anything for the kids and and a huge kudos to our elementary PE teacher because I will be honest um we it you know came through the email and and I worked for public ed so I was like the big grant I don't know and then he came in one day and said I really want to have a disc golf club and I told Molly or Miss Pierce superintendent Pierce I said I

think we have to write the grant because this would be the perfect opportunity and so then it just grew into this. So, anything for the kids and staff, like I'm excited to see how it goes and and hopefully we'll be able to report back some really great things. Um, parent involvement is another piece with that. So, we're asking all of our staff to build in at least one parent involvement opportunity. Um, so like art club is probably, you know, going to do some sort of art show or even creating art with their kids or like go fishing with your kids or um just to bring parents in and show them the great things their kids are going to have opportunities for. >> Awesome. >> Great. Sounds great. >> That is so cool. our our theme

this year is desire, dedication, opportunities. So, I feel like that really opportunity >> was part of that. Um, we had planned next month for our presentation to be out of school time. Um, but we're going to push that back a little bit because we weren't able to start, we applied for this in like April. They were supposed to let us know by end of school year May. And that way we could start planning as soon as uh July hit and we could start getting budget together. And here we are in September and we've been waiting on easy. So here we hope to get some things done soon. >> Awesome. Do we have a motion on the floor? So moved. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> Second.

>> We have a motion and a second. All in favor say I. I. Motion passes unanimously. Item 9E, approval of invent approval of out of schooltime grant. >> Uh, no. >> So, I'm not sure what happened. Somehow on your computer, they've like gone together. So, um, it's E, approval of inventory deletion of Axon body cameras. I recommend approval for that. So, prior to me, um, we had an Sor SO for a little while in the district. We bought some equipment with some funds, some safety and security funds at the time. We're no longer using that equipment. So, what we would like to do is we would like to I don't want to say donate, but that's the right word, Genie. >> Transfer our inventory. >> Transfer the inventory to the city um for our officers

here in the city. They have come and looked at them to make sure that that would be something that they would be willing to take on. So the first piece of that was to bring it to you guys so that way we could transfer that inventory and then the board of the city would then um accept that transfer. >> Any questions or comments? >> Okay. Do we have a motion on the floor for approval of inventory deletions of Axon body cameras? >> I move to approve. >> Okay. We have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> Second. We have a second on the floor as well. Uh motion and a second. I'm sorry. Um all in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes unanimously. >> Okay. Item 9F. Got to

quit clicking on this thing. I can't see when it does. >> Approval of shade structure construction bus barn. >> So I recommend approval of the shade structure construction at the bus barn. um we went out for legislative funding for this last year and so we have the money um from legislature that we would and and we have to specifically spend it for this when we go out for those projects we say hey these are things that we need um and so we would like to to start that construction um especially because this September has been extremely hot and our buses have definitely felt it so >> okay awesome any questions and oh actually I have question this So, I believe >> we talked about it before that this Are we going to Is there there's

going to be is this where they're going to add the electrical plugs and all that for the winter or >> Correct. There will be electrical. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> We're going to start with the shade structure. Unfortunately, we didn't do the whole yard like we wanted to. We all We're going to start with the east side, >> then we'll do the electrical over there. And hopefully we can build on and do that whole south also more >> not electric school buses but >> right for the bus for those >> we did have to specify that I remember that I remember legislation that um our representatives from around here are not for electric school buses and so they were not going to support us based upon needing electric plugs but we wanted it to be

very clear it to plug buses then in the winter time. Um, so that way they'll start when we need them to >> early in the morning. >> Two more questions. >> So, are we going to be using the bus barn with the new I know we're having the new build. So, are we going to keep utilizing that? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Awesome. Do we have a motion for approval of shade structure construction bus barn? >> I so move. >> Okay. We have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> We have a second. Motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. I I >> I motion passes unanimously. Um okay, item 10, executive session. Um this is going to be item 10 a possible discussion

and action regarding 10-15-1 H2 limited personnel matter. >> Yeah, >> it is not on the printed agenda. >> Okay. >> So no. So, I made this agenda first and this um my secretary takes that and puts it on the agenda that's posted. So, it definitely got missed. So, >> yeah, let's just push it to the next one and that'll be fine. >> Okay, sounds great. Okay, so item >> 10 is future agenda. >> I'm sorry. Item 10 is future agenda items. >> Yes. So item 11. So item 10, future agenda items. Anything on there? >> Any anybody have anything they would like to see? >> I was reading an email that came from um there was a national email board association, but it was talking about um school safety. has specifically mentioned the uh Alyssa

emergency preparedness and it it mentioned like the Alyssa uh >> Alice >> no L Y SSA it is something about that's a requirement and I'm I'm not certain that it's applies to New Mexico. I guess that's what I was going to ask was um like for a silent panic >> notification. >> Um so we do we do have panic buttons at all of our schools. Um it is not silent whenever you uh hit them but it will call and then it also locks all our other schools down as well. Well, I just thought we hadn't really touched on that subject and maybe in not necessarily next week, next month, but sometime in the future. >> Okay. All right. >> Um, item 12, correspondence. Oh, no. I'm sorry. Here we go. Item 11, correspondence. Future meetings

and events. Um, 11 A, correspondence. Do we have any? >> No correspondence. Good. Okay. Uh B, future meetings and events September 21st, 2026, NMSBA region 6 meeting and I believe all you guys are >> um so I did register everyone. Um my new members, you're just new members. So you may or may not have any uh a name tag when you get there, but this is in unice. Um we do get training hours for this. Um, I know it's, you know, coming up quickly, but just in case that you guys could attend, we would love for you to attend. Um, those of you who can attend, we'll leave here at 3:10 um, in a school vehicle so that way we can get there in time. >> Okay. And then question real quick on that. So,

will that one be available online if somebody cannot attend or No, >> that one is not. Um I think in our next meeting we need to once I have sent NMSBA their information and they can tell me based upon whenever you are sworn in is how many hours that you actually have to have in a school year. If they tell me there's zero then you know we won't probably need but I know maybe Nancy needs some too. Um there are some online options and I'm still waiting on um our strategic plan hours as well to be placed in there because that would make a difference for us all too on whether or not we need to do that. So >> okay, the other one is going to be October 12th, 2026 regular board meeting. >>

All right. >> And for that meeting, just a reminder, I will either be online or not here because I am out of state. I mean, we'll have to see. Machini is gonna work on a plane. [laughter] >> Oh, yeah. Reimbured for that. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 8 cents a mile. That's go. >> Yes. [laughter] All right. Um, so item >> you get a little puddle jumper. I could land it like [laughter] >> All right. So, item 12, adjournment. Um, do we have a motion on the floor to adjurnn? >> So moved. >> We have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> Second. >> Motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes. >> Thank you all for being here. >> Yes. Thank you guys. >> Yes.

And welcome to the new board members. >> Welcome to the new boardelcome. >> All right. is
