001Okay, it is 602. We will call this meeting to order. We do have a quorum. Miss on line. Uh, everyone please rise for the pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I salute the flag of the state of New Mexico as a symbol of her friendship among United. >> Thank you all. Happy new year. Glad to have everyone here. Um item three, consent agenda item A, consideration to adopt meeting agenda. Do we have a motion on the floor? >> I would like to make a motion to adopt the meeting agenda. Okay, we have a motion. Do we have a second? >> A second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I. Miss

002Katista. >> Thank you. >> item Thank you. Item uh motion passes. Meeting agenda adopted. Um item 3B, consideration to approve previous minutes from uh December 8th, 2025. Does anybody have anything to add or a motion? I move we approve the December 8th, 2025 minutes. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I second. >> Okay, a motion by Miss Miles, a second by Miss Batista. All in favor? >> Okay, motion passes. >> Item four, board business. Item A, we have consideration to reorganize the board. And so every year in January, it is a chance to kind of maneuver, move around um or keep or whatever um the board decides. And so um consideration to reorganize the board. Do we have any motions on the floor? >> So on

003on that one, um last year I had just been on so I know you guys kind of offered, hey, would you like to be president? I know you guys were kidding, but >> No, we weren't actually. Anyway, >> we actually were not. >> I hadn't even had a meeting. Um I still, you know, this is a huge learning curve, but it's been a huge blessing to be a part of it. Um I I feel like it's a task if you guys um would give me an opportunity or interested in something like that. Obviously, I would lean on experience and others that might can guide me, but um I am here to serve in in whichever way that I think feels is ne is best and necessary for the school and the board. Um if I

004can help, I'd be happy to help in any way, shape, or form. Um, I've enjoyed my nice member site over here where you guys take all the phone calls for the most part, but um, if there's anything I can help, um, I'm open to it. So, >> thank you. >> And, um, I would just like to say Miss Miles has been here and I don't know if she would be willing to maybe step in as president and then vice and then we could work you that way. I mean, I don't know how you feel about that. my smiles. >> Actually, I prefer Mr. Donald for president. Not nobody's trying to not Okay. Uh, Miss Batista, do you have any comments or questions or >> I not. >> So, do we have uh any motion on

005the floor? >> I move we select Lewis Davalos as president. >> Okay. Do we have a second? I'll second it. Actually, I can second. Um, all in favor? >> I Okay. So, then now we need a vice president and smile. Would you be willing to do that? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, I can't make a motion, but can someone else? >> Um, >> go ahead, Andrea. >> File. Sorry, I didn't hear that. >> Sure. >> Yes. >> Yeah. I'll make a motion to form file 35. >> Okay. So, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I Okay, so uh Miss Miles will Mr. Double President. Miss Miles is vice president. We do need a secretary. Um I I I know Linda

006is swamped. I'm I'm I'm good being on the sides, please. So, Andrea, would you be willing to to take that on? I know you're new. >> Yeah, I don't feel fully with that. Can you just give me a little snapshot of what that entails? Is that just taking notes of the meeting or what else? >> Um, signing minutes. Miss Miles has been secretary for a long time. So, Miss Miles, fill her in. >> It's that's basically it. you um there are different things that come along, but most mostly it's handled at board meetings or um you might need to come in occasionally to sign papers to meet deadlines and stuff like that, but um it's it's it's not very difficult. It's like secretary of state, you know, like president, vice president, secretary of state kind

007of just >> and I I think used to the way I read some board policy of others, um they did kind of take the secretary role of like getting the packets together and all of that, but I think all of that has kind of fallen away. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. If if the president and vice president were ever to be both gone at the same time, you would need to be able to conduct the meeting, >> right? >> Then I need a few lessons in that, but otherwise, yes, I would be willing to be the secretary. >> Thank you. Do we have a motion on the floor, please? >> I move we uh appoint Andrea Batista as the secretary. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second?

008>> I'll second. >> Okay. All in favor? >> I. Okay. So, we have president, vice president, secretaries, and so, uh, Mr. Davalos, you get to come do it. >> We We don't have to move if everybody doesn't want to move. You just stay as >> But okay. Yeah, it's up to you. You want You want the spot. You said you don't want to be on the wing. So, >> no, that's okay. I don't mind the wing over here, but I I can I can finish if you like. It's up to you. It's up to you. If you are you ready? Are if you're ready. I'm I'm totally ready. >> Yes. >> Please. >> All right. Well, again, I'm going to be leaning. Please help. I You know, this is like my first walking. >> No,

009it's like throwing a baby in the pool. >> Go. >> Okay. All right. Well, thank you very much again. Um, as Madam Board President, I appreciate everything you've done. So, um, huge gratitude. >> Appreciate your service. >> Yes. >> Oh, >> very much so. >> Thank you. Thank you for taking it on. Appreciate it. >> Okay. So, item moving on. Right. >> Yes. >> Um, item 4B, consideration to uh a consideration to move appointment of two board members to the uh finance subcommittee. Um, any questions, comments, or emotion or concerns? >> Um, I don't even know who we had and then we didn't have. So, I >> So, currently the track I found there wasn't anybody the last time. Um, the way we currently run it with the premeating being here and we televise it

010for better words. Um, we don't necessarily have anything for those to do, but in case anyone ever asks, we are supposed to have two nominated for that and then two for the audit committee committee. And the audit committee does come in twice um a year at the pre- and posted audit and listen to our auditors give their their spill. So, just um information on that. And if you are selected, we need do need one person from the audit committee on Wednesday of this week at 2 J to come in um and go ahead and and do the exit audit piece. I know Lewis, you showed to the first um audit committee meeting that just >> Yes. >> would you be okay coming on Wednesday? I can't >> Andrea, what about you on Wednesday at two?

011>> I would. It would have to be digital. >> I I think I can Saturday. >> It is um wacky Wednesday. >> So what what >> right it's it's uh yes it >> and and for the entrance meeting it was 10 minutes. So I can't imagine >> next Wednesday. >> No, this this Wednesday. So what time what time do you >> at two still Monday? >> Yeah, >> Wednesday. >> It doesn't take very long usually, does it? >> No, the entrance was 10 minutes. I can't imagine exit 20 minutes. Um just to kind of go over anything that our auditors found or information >> to appoint Nancy to the audit committee. Mhm. >> Anybody else? >> Um, Andrea, would you like to be audit or finance? >> I will be very honest. I would be

012happy and open to either in full control. >> Okay. Mr. Davalos, what about you? >> Um, I think I would be >> I'm good with which whichever as well. So, I just I don't Yep. I think I would I think I'd be inclined to go for the audit committee as well. >> Okay. So, Andrea and I can do finance and then um Mr. Davos and Shiani can do audits. Oh, I guess we need to make a motion. >> So, I move that um myself and Miss Batista are on the finance subcommittee. Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we >> She She made the motion, so you just need a second. >> Okay. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay. So, all right. There we So, we have a motion

013by uh Mrs. Kovs and we have a second by Mrs. Miles. Right. Motion passes. Oh, sorry. Um, >> All in favor? I >> say I. Sorry, I have all my notes and they look great right here, but it's like they're not jumping out at me. >> Okay. Okay, now we have um now C consideration uh two board members for the audit committee. >> Do we have a motion? I move that Miss Miles and Mr. Davalos are on the audit committee. >> We have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> Second. >> We have a motion by Mrs. Kobos and a second by uh Mrs. Batista. Um all in favor say I. >> I. We have motion passes. Item five reports. Item uh 5A construction report. >> So the core committee met

014on nine um to discuss site placement of the building. We have tasked them to go back um and then we will have for sure the meeting with the design committee on 122 and possibly a meeting before or after with the design committee. So, we've asked them u essentially to give more information on what they were presenting and then that way we could just all be together as a design committee versus just core committee because we've now gone from just the paperwork side of it all to okay, we're ready to start um it being really real. Um so, Jeannie did send out an invite with Miles and I yeah I saw it but I don't I can't come. >> Okay. So once we have the other um option I'll let you know too and then we'll

015just offer it to the other three members and if any of them can come then we'll go that way. We'll continue to just have you two on the design committee and then once you let me know hey I can't make that meeting we can just sub an alternate essentially to kind of >> Yeah. And I think I marked it as no. >> Yeah. And I I had it's that's far enough in the future I haven't even looked at yeses and nos. But with that then we should be ready to start looking at possible designs of buildings and all of the pieces that go within that. Um so I believe when we get started it will be multiple meetings. um probably a month for us as the whole design committee and no longer any core committee

016making decisions on that. And >> as far as site go, they've still been going. >> They are they are and with that information they have we have also gone to the city because there is easements there that we have from the city and so we have to ensure that that is all clear for that to be the best site. So, that's kind of our one last what I would say like core committee holdup is us get working through getting that. Um, Clark is the little piece of Clark that our middle school teachers now park on. That currently doesn't belong to us. Um, so we're trying to get that piece and then part of the alleyway um as well easement. So once that has all but then it's really all big design committee and get together

017and so it sounds like a lot but the more I think it's minute details that I'm thinking wow somebody has to make every one of those decisions. So >> So is that for town council meeting or something tomorrow or >> I have you heard anything from the town? We have an email from the town. They have given us it's a very informal but they did take it to the council. I don't know how that was addressed. >> Okay. Just because there's a meeting tomorrow. So I wonder on their agenda. >> Right. So our next step though, our surveyors are going to combine the plots. you know, we have alleys that go through the football field that really aren't alleys. So, those kind of things, we're going to combine all of Dexter's property and then the

018town and the school will have to meet someone from the county and then um we'll all have to make it official through probably action items of both. >> Wow. So, >> it's always more complicated than you think it's going to be. >> Um, yes. Because even that property where the middle school sits is still um chunked up as if it was a city block in terms of even though we own the majority of it. It's still plotted essentially in I don't know 15 or 20. >> There's an alley that runs through the middle school gym. >> Nice. So, >> little nuances that you just don't think about whenever you look out there and there's nothing there. >> Wow. >> Okay. 5B student teacher reports. Um, Miss Candace Moreno, NCSA conference. >> First off, I want

019to say thank you guys for allowing Mr. Smith and myself to attend. I am passing out Mr. Smith's uh report. You guys can take time at your own leisure and read his um paper. So first off um my screen share I believe. So I think you are >> all right. So um the hotel was actually not too far from the airport. Um so that was kind of nice. I'm not really sure what to expect. So, but I really Greg and I took so many pictures while we were there. Um, and this was the hallway where our conference was looking going back to the lobby and that was such a gorgeous shot. I I had to share it. Um, so in Grand Rapids, um, it snowed. I was so happy with snow. Uh, lived 10 years

020in an area that had snow to an area that in that does not get much snow. So, um, hello snow. I don't know why I'm so cold right now. Um, so this is the New Mexico delegation. Um, uh, left to right. So we have our executive advisor to the secretary sits on our student council state board and of course our state executive director myself um as an official role of district adviser and Texas school student council adviser. So we I was there in two capacities which was great and then Mr. Smith as the school adviser and my buddy who I kind of drove along and I felt kind of bad because this conference really really puts you out of your comfort zone. Um so when we talk about doing this as a national conference, there

021are typically 29 states that are always represented. Um there were some weird things because of snow going on. So not all 29 of us were there um as far as states go. But the really neat thing was is seeing Mr. Smith and myself getting out of that comfort zone, being thrown into those workshops and those table talks, and I'll talk about that in a minute. Um, and you'll read his on his paper. So, uh, the biggest thing was this activity on one of my workshops. And so, basically, you get a piece of paper, you fold it till you get 16 squares, and then you can just tear it. You don't need scissors. If you want, you can just hand students 16 pieces of little scrap paper. And then they are to write four goals, four

022material objects, four roles they are uh important in four names of people who you care care about and you are to mix them up, put them face down and then you pick and then you have to figure out what happened, what decision you made, what decision other people made that caused you to lose. Like the first time I lost a husband. Uh and so I had to come up with like a car crash or fire burning in the house. Like we lost an object we lost was the house. And so that was like the concoction, right? You have to make it fit. And then um you pick the next four. And then I was like okay well left my daughter due to hypoxia or whatever. Right? We had to we had to go through these

023and you had to think of decisions you make and decisions people around you make. And this was a great was a eye openener for me um because how much our lack of making decisions makes a decision you probably don't want and for me and Mr. Smith was in this as well to see that our lack of disision making and the potential impact that has on maybe our councils maybe on our community. Um going back to the unintended intentions, right? So um that activity I'm planning to do but I'm kind of saving it towards the end. Um just because it intense like just the thought process you were thought process the thought processes of your students. Um it's a great activity and I'm really looking forward to doing it with middle school students. Mr. also said

024from our conversation, our quick little debrief on our walk to our next workshops before we split was this will be a great one and I told him his high school students would love this because especially as junior seniors they're fix some really heavy decisions and so it was a great decision one um we had a speaker which I've met him before I think it was in Berling game um at this conference in Berling game but I didn't get as much out of that one as I did this one. Maybe because I got so much out of the other speakers, but I have a prettier picture than that for this picture. And that's kind of where I'm at. Um, our mindset plus passion equals lead self and lead others. Um, I am a very I'm I

025listen to that voice in my head, the negative voice, more often than I should. and this conference not just his uh but there was Molly Kennedy and like the spiral that we tend to go down and to like finally just you know what I'm going to stop it I'm going to flip the script and I'm going to move and do something that's going to make me uncomfortable and that was for me is talking about you guys um as you guys know like I'm literally shaking um I Uh so this experience this year every year it's been so great and I've got so many things out of there but there after going to this conference we did we have done so much already that I've learned in a small amount of time or that I have

026planned um because now we're going to go host state five weeks uh but um we've done so already that I'm really excited for when we get to do the next thing. And one of my favorite speakers did an activity with us. I'm waiting to do it till after state just because I don't want that to influence them going to state. Um because there's always that potential of like I said, I live in the negative. Um, and it's really hard to flip that script and I don't want that to accidentally flip it unintentionally the wrong way before we go and they are having to socialize with 600 other middle school students. So, um, but it was, like I said, it was a great work workshop. Um, the table talks really, really cool. In between those, uh,

027I this lady was like, "You want to make a batner?" Sure. She's like, "Here's my information." Uh, well, I'm from New Mexico. Um, and she goes, "Oh, okay. Well, we could talk about it and get you this machine that's uh but it's a poster machine." And I'm like, "Oh, cool. It's going to make things like this. I can fit that." She goes, "It starts printing." And I'm going, "Oh, that thing's huge." And it's still printing. And it's still printing. And then it was still printing. Um I had to take everything out of my bag which was already preacked. This was Saturday. Um and because our flight was Sunday right after um the final speaker and that was the first thing that had to go in diagonal. >> You could have worn it like I should

028have just worn it. >> Um so but this thing was so long. Um it's going to go up in the middle school in the hallway. Uh we had a plan of where to put it. Um, we just haven't had a chance to do it. It's so fragile though that fab it's a little thicker than regular paper. It is poster paper. Um, we may need to laminate it first just because I'm afraid it would hair once we pack it up there. Um, but yeah, it's really cool. Um and of course um Saturday after my first workshop of and I forgot to mention this a while ago is I talked with the I don't know what her title is but she's part of the national association of secondary schools of secondary principles. I don't know it's NASP.

029It's kind of a mouthful. It's one of the supports to all the student council stuff and it's part of the national student council. they are the parent that oversees the national street council and um so after her workshop she did let us go early and it was great uh we learned to how to appropriately evaluate um our relationships in our lives and then she let us leave early because she did it so quick that I got to do this on my way out this poster let me show you the picture without a jacket Oh, that was supposed to be later. >> I was >> kind of wet going to from after my snow angel. Um, going to my next workshop to go to table talks. Uh, so you can't really see it, but there is

030the the the heads way up here. Not that tall. It's just the angle. Um, I didn't want to put the video in there. It's not the greatest video, but I was Stoked. I had to go and like really dust off the snow. I was really stuck. It's really um packed in like compact snow type of snow. Um that just shows you how much I love snow. Anyway, um like I said, the conference was it was great. Um it like I said, it really got me out of my comfort zone. Um because I go there because I know quite a few people, but there are still a lot of people. Like I said, 29 states, a lot of people. And so, um, having to go out of my comfort zone, introduce myself to somebody from another

031state, say, "Hey, what's it like in your state? What do you guys do?" And then having to them do that. Have them do that to me. Is was she? And um, Smith has made a comment. It's like, "You do this all the time. This is your your fourth time going." And I said, "Uh, Greg, look at my hands." I was like, "I learned to mask it." like it's not the greatest, but um like I said, I enjoyed it so much. Getting to be with the people that I've become friends with and making those new acquaintances has been has been amazing. Um I lean on them. Uh foundations, I just got an email today. No, the marked red. I haven't really read it or had a chance to read it. Um so foundations is beginning. Um,

032it's a it was I won a foundation class even though this is I don't know year seven of student council. And so I'm going to do this journey and I'm hoping that this will not just help me go going back to my why. That's really why we do things is our why. And then of course um like I said that district advisor uh role that I have two more years that my world's been kind of craving. Um but I do it all all for my students 100%. My students have they they even have made comments like miss we see your joy now. I was like I thought I always just leave my joy because they are my joy and they're like no we actually see it. putting it in words to express it is really

033hard. But to show it to my students and for them to come up and say we see this now, like we didn't really get it, but now we see it. It's It's been amazing. But thank you. Sorry. >> Thank you. >> Awesome. Thank you. >> And you might want to go read that email you you said you reading list. Awesome. Thank you for taking the time to go. >> But I didn't. >> All right. Um, item 5C, board reports. >> A little uh update on some of the board reports. You'll notice from elementary school, um, lots of winter art. So, if you are at the elementary school, I highly encourage people to to go and stop by. Even if you're just in the neighborhood, um each different grade level did a different art project for

034winter art and they're really neat. And then, um also have some information on numbers for special education. Middle school shares some information on their data from middle of year. Um, and I just want to share in general across the board, um, K8 that took our middle of the year assessment, we are seeing large improvements, um, from multiple grade levels. So, some really good stuff. Excited to see for the rest of the school year um, the differences. And in February, plan on sharing some of that information with you guys as well. Awesome. Okay. So, super um 5D superintendent reports. >> So, I have several different things I want to share with you. Uh the first one is the panorama survey and we typically have given that to our parents, our staff and our students um every

035single year in the fall. And so the goal for this year was to uh improve climate and culture at the beginning um when we kind of had the goal that I set for us. And so we utilized this survey as our essential baseline for the fall and we will go ahead and take it again in the spring in May to see the difference. But some you do have a copy of it there. But some things I'd like to highlight. At the elementary school, um in the fall of 2023, we had 58% of students who saw um our school culture as being favorable. In the fall of 2024, 61% and then this fall 2025, 64%. So, a nice little jog up. And then school safety for students has stayed relatively the same at the elementary school.

036When we look at middle school on school climate, we saw 46% in 2023, 50% in 2024, and then 50% in fall 2025. We saw a slight regression in students answers on school safety at the middle school. At the high school, we only have data from fall of 2023. we went from 26% who said positive um overall learning climate to 38% at the high school and then for school safety went from 59 to 66%. So some pretty large growth um and I didn't realize that we would have this historical data. So, I think that's also great for us to kind of set some baseline of what it looks like from the past. When we look at the same questions, but we look at families, um, what they said on the survey, we went from 43% in

037the fall of 2024 to u 65% in the fall of 2025 in the way that they felt about school climate being positive. And then school safety in the fall of 2024 we were at 60% and the fall of 2025 80%. So some really large growth. The other thing that this doesn't show is we had over twice as many families take the survey as we did previous year. Um so thank you to our families that took that as well as the staff members who hunted families down at different events. Please take our survey. Please take our survey. middle didn't have any historical um data and I can't tell you why if if they didn't have any parents take it in the past um obviously because I wasn't here but there is no historical data um so

038school climate 59% and then school safety 73% so still sitting in good um areas but still room to grow as well and then our high school families we had 34 high school um families take the survey. So, I think that's great because a lot of the times it's sometimes hard to get our families at the high school level um to take if we put it on Facebook or that type of stuff. That's the way our our parents at the high school level typically get information. Um but we had a good turnout. We went from 4% in the fall of 2023 to 36% on the fall of 2025 for school climate. And then school safety went from 18% in the fall of 2023 to 60% in the fall of 2025. So really exciting things. Families are

039really seeing some changes happening. Um but we also know like these aren't end goals. Like we still have room that we can grow um and utilize this information to ask families how we can better serve them. Um so a couple other areas that I do want to point out. Um, we had students answer this question. How often do your teachers seem excited about your teaching uh what you're teaching in class and it was 71%. The comparable question in which colleagues or um teachers answered that about themsel they only responded with 31%. So teachers don't always feel that their teacher next door has the same um emotion but kids can feel that. kids think that teachers are ready to go and are excited about what they're at the elementary school level. And then middle school, we

040asked the same questions um and the students said 41% but their peers said 62%. And then our at our high school we had 27% students think that their teachers are excited about what they're teaching and then 14% um was their attitudes about their colleagues. So definitely some areas in which we are going to work on um for the spring as well as I think this is something that will go be ongoing climate and culture and safety of buildings happens continuously. Some of that has to do with just us telling parents and students what we're doing to ensure safety um of parent uh students. So I have I provided this in your packet online but because it is such a large document I went ahead and made you a copy of this as well. Um Lee

041White out of loving saw a need in our state to really show our story of not being 50th in the US. Um and so he did a deep dive on school data to see why do we always get considered 50 and he found that all the information the state provides us they provide us a Lexile score and so for those kind of just information piece Lexile scores are from a third-party company and they essentially say take your test and they say if they score this many points the Lexile is this depending on and so Lexile is used across the United States on a wide range of books um research driven um and then also they do it on assessments so third party takes all these assessments and looks at them and it's a comparable range

042apples to apples with that information we as superintendents um once Mr. right had kind of discussed this like hey I'm seeing at my school if we will use Lexile um scores and we compare across state lines we can compare our students to any other school and see how we're actually doing because we're not looking at two different tests. So with that you'll notice on the front um this is comparing Lexile growth tra trajectories but on the back side of the first page and the third page you'll see um our comparisons to other states. So in third grade, um New Mexico sits about in the middle of the um states that they compared us to based upon Lexile scores. Um in fourth grade we also said about the middle, fifth grade about the middle. So there's

043no way based upon this information that we could be 50th. And so this is something that's going to be taken to u the legislators and hopefully we can start really telling the story that we currently typically compare our state by what the standard our state sets. And right now our proficiency is about 40 points higher than our neighboring state of Texas considers proficient on their end of school exams. So this is just for reading. Our hope as superintendents is that the state will fund also the same um research in mathematics so that way we can actually see where we're sitting. Not to say that you know 30th is but we actually know where we're sitting. So that way when we are trying to make that growth it's a true range of growth versus whatever new

044assessment the state sends us every year. Lexiles can be done with any test. So if next year they say hey we're changing from um IMASA to something completely different. We could still compare where our students were right now to where they're going um with this study. Dexter was part of the original. You can see on the back it has a map of all the schools. Um they're in the darker color if they chose to to be some of the first schools. So we do have a third um of our schools in the state of New Mexico who gave information to this study. Um so that way we were able to kind of see where do we actually sit because like Mr. White said whenever he came to superintendent is if we are 50th when they

045do this independent research on Lexiles, we will take it and we know where we sit. >> But we're not. And so now where do we go with this information in terms of our legislators need to know the money they have put into schools is working. We aren't where we need to be, but we also aren't 50th either. So, this is I think you'll see some more stuff come out um as superintendent kind of make this big push of let's celebrate what our kids are doing. >> Any questions? This is like the readers friendly version. There is also a white paper if you would like to read the research data behind it. >> Wow, that's a lot of good information. I think it's just exciting. It's it's exciting that we can actually compare ourselves to other

046states any year, no matter if we um take the same assessment or not. There's a way in which we can do that and and really know kind of where we're sitting on a on a national scale. Graduation date May 16th at 7. Something we may think about for future. This is um essentially the same as this last year. We may think about um entertaining. He also has graduation on that night. Theirs is at 7:30. So, we've, you know, our kids already have ordered graduation invitations and that type of thing. We may either choose to maybe go at 6:30 and that gives us an hour more of our kids because we do have some families that do try to go to both or I would also not be opposed to if Heyman and I got together

047similar to what Rosswell does and we rotate. One does Friday, one does Saturday and the next year we flop. Um, but also I do know sometimes that is not always the best choice either, but for the future we may want to at least just allow that option for families to go to to go to both graduations if they do have somebody. So >> cool. So our current enrollment you have some information there but I the one I really want to share with you I have printed in front of you and it's colorcoded after I had had this information this information um Jeanie has collected not since she got here but pretty close so you can really see some trends in terms of enrollment of all students. So since 2020 2001 2002 you'll notice there is

048a pretty steady decline in the number of students um and this goes off of 80th and 120th day average. Um we kind of sit around 30 students a year that we've been losing since that point. Uh not to say that some years we didn't gain students, but there's been significant years that we did um have some major losses in terms of of student numbers. This is colorcoded so you can also track the same cohort of students from the time they started three-year-old, which typically we have less three-year-old and four-year-olds um and then kindergarten we open it up to the time that they are in 12th grade. So currently we also have 108 out of district students. This is students who when enrolling um stated they were out of district. This summer we plan on doing

049a comprehensive audit of all our students and that way in the future we best know where um they're all living and and have a better number. Um wellness polic was there any question before I move on? Wellness policy. We're currently um almost in conclusion of our wellness policy. We will have our wellness policy at our parent teacher conferences so that way we can get some er parent input on our wellness policy. It's not changed a whole lot from the previous wellness policy. So um budget budget's coming up soon. Um, we have been able to use the tool that the state has provided us to estimate budget for next school year. And based upon our current unit value and the current membership of 80th day, we're looking at a $1 million deficit for the 2627 school

050year. So based upon the estimation um for the number of students that we dropped is about 350,000 that we um will be short. The majority of that one million comes from our sped audit in which we took the number of our each sped file looked at their IEP, compared it with what we were sending to the state as well as um any kid that's exited and all of that information. That's where the majority of our 1 million comes out of because now we're on track. So, I am glad we did that self audit before we had any other audits from the state so that way we can be in compliance um in that regard. So, the reason I kind of want to put that out there to you guys, if you see that we have

051jabs and we've chosen to just fill them with a long-term sub for the rest of the school year, the reason for that is as we get close and we have exact numbers for budget, then we can make decisions. Yes, we need to hire this position. But until then, I also feel very strongly that if we were to hire them right now knowing this that that would be a disservice to people as well. So, just in case um with that, I have been doing some research on other schools and information that they put out in their um superintendent report and I saw two different schools utilize just a little spreadsheet on what jobs are currently posted. So, for the February meeting, I'll start adding that in the U report as well, just so that way number

052one, maybe somebody hopefully is watching this and they're like, "Oh, I would like to apply for X position." And then also just so that way you can see the reoccurring positions on there as well. So quick question is that because we're looking at possibly doing a riff or we could but my hope would be if we just stick with what we have currently and anyone who is not you know we haven't refilled those would be the positions that we actually so it would prevent the rift I guess essentially um because with that then we don't have to go out and more prevention on our because also the student uh unit value may change and it may not be that we're that short. It's with the current student unit value. So that's why I guess it's

053out of an abundance of caution is what I would say. I would rather be cautious right now, put a long-term sub position and then make that decision when we need have more information and not just the information we currently have. Any other middle school welcomed Rachel's challenge to the district last Wednesday. Um it was really good. Um Wednesday night they had families come, they fed families, and then Rachel's challenge. Um Miss Ferguson, you want to just give a I I will gladly do it, but I think if Sure. Um, hello. So, I wanted to be very intentional about the guest speaker. I mean, every year try to try to do it with intention, but um, I needed students to hear a powerful message about the effects, the longlasting effects of kindness. and they needed to

054hear it from somebody that wasn't me or you know and maybe somebody that wasn't necessarily um those of us that they see on a daily basis and connected with some administrators across the country actually and that's how excuse me I uh was turned on to the Rachel's challenge program not knowing that it had actually been brought to Dexter many years ago uh I just jumped on the bandwagon and um Swatson was incredibly supportive and helped me get funding gathered up for that. But um the the know it's it's amazing and and what they really want is they don't want somebody to to come in and do this presentation and it be great for a day or two. They want the that to be cleanable. like the idea of this cascading effect of random acts of

055kindness. They want that, you know, to continue. And so the first half of the day was the presentation. It's a very emotional story about a young girl um that was Coline High School back in 99 when all of the horribleness went down and and she lost her life, but her family has continued her legacy. Um but so that lays the groundwork and then in the afternoon I had staff vote on 10 students per grade level. So we had 10 from six 10 students from sixth, seventh and eighth and they did what they call the floor work and they're actually are our official friends of Rachel group and it will be their job over the next coming weeks to perpetuate these random acts of kindness. um throughout the middle school and I I think we're probably

056gonna kick off our first one with uh what they call a positivity change. So, but I'm gonna let the students make that decision. So, they had notebooks and they were brainstorming and they came up with some really cool ideas and I I I really want them to spearhead, you know, our next move and continue to do that. So, I hope I went >> No, that was a but um anyway, it it parallels very well with what student council always tries to do and you know the work that we're doing through restorative practices and um the house system and just about really building continuing to build and strengthen the school community. We're a school family and I tell kids that. I mean that. So, wanted to find something that Yes. was very cool. Okay. So, then

057next um calendar. So, we had calendar input meetings this last week at all three schools. We'll have one final calendar input meeting um on Thursday here at central office. And really those input meetings, all they were was to ask questions to better build potential calendars for the district to for teachers to vote on. So it had anything from questions about days on Thanksgiving break, Easter Monday, is that best? How many professional development days do you feel like we need at the beginning of school? Um is a day before uh election day a single day and then us taking election day off or should we take that day before election day off too? So we gathered that information and once I have the last one we'll utilize that information to create calendars for then staff to

058vote on. So we had pretty good turnout at um two of the three sites. So that'll it it at least gives us some information based on I was able to tell staff why some choices have to be and essentially like the four if we go four days a week we can't go a fifth day or the state now considers you a five day week school even if it's only one time during the school year it is and so that's a choice that keep it four days or less you you can go two or or whatnot that you can't go any more than four. And so because some of them were like what if we just took the last four days of school and added four Fridays that kids go and I said used to that

059worked fine. Right now the guidance is that you stick four days a week or you become a five day a week school. We haven't received guidance to PD from PD yet. So, as soon as they give us guidance, we may need to ask some more questions to teachers on, hey, they they've stated we need to do this, how should we do that? So, I thought just getting this done a little early allows us more time for input from others um than just kind of trying to get put together at the end. So, um hopefully have calendars for February or March for board approval after um teachers have the option to vote and make any changes that we need to for that. >> Are we getting any community input on 4day 5day? >> So, I haven't

060asked for community input. We can definitely take that back. I have gotten input from staff and that that piece was still 4 day a week um on in terms of that. So, I don't mind going back to to that. I just I mean, that's a big move if we do go back five days uh teacher contract and whatnot, but definitely don't mind taking that back to community either. when we've had when we've had Mondays off and they've they needed to come on Friday, what kind of attendance are we getting? >> Elementary and middle school um have better attendance than high school with that. Um high school also if they know certain activities are happening attendance is lower as well. Um so that would be interesting. Let's just say everybody basketball is going to all be

061gone, both girls and boys, and they know that less kids will be in class. That seems to drive attendance to be lower as well, or at least more students to leave earlier. Um, those type of things also have some effect on on attendance as well. Well, I think too also thinking of even if we stay on four day of switching it from the Fridays to the Mondays, I mean on a community survey, you know what I mean? Like five day, four days, four day on a Monday off rather than a Friday off. Um just >> so on on the Fridays to Mondays um the other schools that are also four days have and and I there's some of them that have been doing it a really long time and have done both and just the

062information put out the reason the majority of them right now there's only one school that takes Mondays off is if for some reason during the school week let's say we have to take snow day on Tuesday >> we talked about on Friday, we could make that day up without having to add it to the end of the school year. And so that was kind of the big conversation had at the the superintendent's meeting where multiple schools were going because that was asked by a lot of them. Why do you choose to do this? And so the school that does choose to go on Monday have two days built in is what they they don't call them snow days. She had a different term for them or something. but she had those built in so that

063way she had that flexibility to take off the days needed. So that was the the conversation. Not that it can't be done, but also that >> that was the reason. >> Mhm. That Yeah, that's the reasoning on why. >> Well, how many Mondays do we have? I mean, >> two two in the fall and two in the spring. >> Or plus the Tuesday that is >> plus the Tuesday. And I'm >> I'm not going to say that that'll get changed this legislative session, but I can tell you that's been a a giant topic of conversation. And the reason is because our students who take college classes still have college on that day. We did transport still on election day for those students to the college. And so if you think about school districts who have

064a really large number of students, that really affects them. Um, so I know that that'll be a push for us to at least choose what's best. Um, and I mean I've had teachers and other administrators also tell me that was a big teaching day in which they visited the polls, talked to, you know, legislator like all of that stuff. They did a lot of political um civic civic duty stuff on that day to ensure that students knew like when you get 18, here's how you register to vote and those type of things. So my hope is that we would get some local control back over that day specifically because right now we have that one as well as the June election day as well that we have to take off >> and we have fair

065day >> fair day um and Labor Day in the fall and Martin Luther King and President's Day in the spring. And there are some 48week schools that don't observe those holidays. And so that's an option as well. But I do think when we think about families, a lot of the times our parents have that day off. And so this allows to be together. I mean, and that's something we definitely could could ask, but I think it it's hard initially to probably go from five days a week to four days a week with no holidays that they typically got off. Um, I can tell you that the majority of teachers do feel um the need or the want for u the day after e Easter Monday. So, I can see that that that's um a big

066draw to them. And so, we probably will look at putting that back in the calendar. Last, any questions on calendar? Last Thursday we had SEAG training. Um what that is is training for threat assessment and that includes anything from firearms and the to fighting and kind of taking that process in our school buildings and ensuring that we have asked questions and at least have prepared um students and staff that hey there was a threat here's the steps we completed and then even gives us information on like how do we help them in the community. So this is at all three district um all three buildings and then we can now go ahead u and roll it out. We have a a virtual platform so that way if we do have a threat then we're able

067to to take the steps necessary. I don't want to say to to mitigate it, but to understand what's going on and then also to hopefully prevent the violent piece of that. And then NMSBA is coming really soon. So if you are interested in going to the February NMSBA board member institute, if you will let me know. >> I just ag. >> Perfect. Yes, because it is two th all day Thursday, all day Friday, and half a day on Saturday. >> I just leave it, but I think you might need a Okay. >> Well, so >> Oh, did um and then last, you will have my you have my leave report. Um I will be out of district for the next six weeks off and on. um as there's multiple trainings throughout different realms, but a

068lot of it having to do with budget, finance, and HR as those are kind of areas that have been kind of heavy in terms of the information that we need as a district to make best decisions. So, um I have a list of all of those dates. Um lots of conferences, a lot of them happening on on Friday, Saturday, um Thursday, Friday, Saturday, but still being out of district. So >> any traveling looks like it's fun for a little bit and then it becomes a job. Okay. Um item six, public forum. Uh three minute time limit per presenter. Do we >> Okay. Awesome. Um item seven, business. Um consideration to approve the open meetings resolution act. Um any questions, comments, concerns? Um a motion? Can I just I I think I just want to go

069ahead and let everybody know this didn't change. We'll still post the agenda at the three places currently. Um Dexter Hardware, the post office and city hall. We currently also have in there. We'll post it on the marquee and then on the website um after reading through this um open meetings act, we currently also pay $50 a month to have it put in the newspaper. Um, so because that's not in there and we we could make that change now. But I I think that as we know the number of newspaper readers is especially in our area. Um, we can save that $50 a month by not putting it in the newspaper either. So, just wanted everyone to to know that. >> Thought we had stopped. Yeah, we did for for a period of time and stopped

070>> and >> yeah, I don't even know that. >> Yeah, I don't either. But >> oh, Annabelle's been doing it and so when we when I learned that we had still been doing I looked into it and so we do not and discontin. >> Yeah, we we thought we >> Yeah, that's good. Yeah. >> Okay. Um, I move to approve the open needs resolution act as written. A second. >> Okay, we have a motion and a second. A motion by Mr. Kovos and a second by Mrs. Miles. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes. Um, item 7B discussion and approval of schoolboard team building and strategic plan. uh any discussion. >> So the last company that I contacted um that Gallup McKinley had used phenomenal information and even Gallop McKinley but however

071right now they're 5,000 a day and they are a six >> month process. I don't think we're ready for that. Um, so she hadn't even got me to quote um back and I I think we are ready to make a decision um tonight based upon our our three quotes we had previously. We had CES which was 7500. Um, no I'm going to have to go back and mark something >> and our our senio and his had two different options but both of them on the higher price point. I recommend that we go with CES. We've used them in the past for this. um we can get us a strategic plan in place and then after that we can look at all the other information that we might want to add later um that some of

072these other companies do a more in-depth option. I don't know if anybody has questions. I I can make a motion if everybody's fine. Andrea, I don't know if she has questions. >> I can I can hear a little bit he or Molly, but I can't hear the other discussion. >> Are you Yeah. Are you Did you have any questions about the strategic plan or No. >> Um, aside from what is ES going to offer? What is there? >> Let me >> I'm gonna put in the uh agenda so that way you can see their strategic plan uh plan. >> Okay. >> I remember what month it was. >> I want to Well, I know that For several months, I linked everything. Did you look at November? November. November is when they came. Here's the suggested

073file. While you're posting that, how much is CPS? >> CS is 7500 for the entire process. >> Yeah. And I can't remember the exact same book. >> Seemed like that CES quote had quite a bit more included in the package. was more >> it wasn't it wasn't like a one week I'll show up and leave. It was like we'll continue >> it's up posted this up. Thank you. >> It just seemed like they would be a little more flexible to work with us, you know, on our time. Not quite. So, here's your three days. We're done. So, How many days was is CES anticipating? There's like a six-month process, but I don't know about actual like days. It looks on there be two board work sessions and then two sessions with the leadership team. Um

074doesn't necessarily have >> and they would be coming to us or we would be going to them just out of curiosity because I see that travel expenses. I'm assuming that's them. >> Yes, they would come to us. I mean, it looks fairly thorough. Why is that a six month? And the other group was just going to charge $5,000 a day like based on how many days I needed. So, so we took lots of different quotes. So, uh, our city Romero did two different quotes for us and his bottom package was, uh, 10 and his higher package was I, I want to say 35,000 and then, uh, with his, his was took it down to the granular level after it took board um, to 90day plans for each building. Um and then Mark work something like

075>> um his was more basic just board um with superintendent and not necessarily utilizing as much community input. >> And then >> oh David Mark >> the last my brain is a blank on I spoke with her this week. Um but hers so she did Gallup McKinley's they specialize in larger schools and so typically they do two or three days pre-work before they even meet with the board by walking through your buildings. Um and so whenever she described her process and the information based upon that t it was probably the best process but they don't have a way right now to scale it to our size essentially >> and so they really are I mean and that's they kind of are just a $5,000 a day that includes the days that they work pre-work and

076so after that I was just like you may we may want to come back and visit her in a couple years as we've um had this original strategic plan. It's been I want to say since 2019 since we've had a strategic plan and so we kind of just need to get us something where we are all on the same page going in the same direction and then from there we can get more granular after we have u like what I would consider a baseline in place. >> Yeah. Which is what the >> Yes. C CES I think it would and it's tailored to schools as well. So he doesn't just do um CES is mostly schools where a lot of these other companies do businesses um and other so I do feel CES it may

077be very generic let's say but in terms of what we need right now it covers all the boxes. >> Okay. was kind of my concern, right? Like is it not for lack of better words at the moment it's not the cheap way out, right? Like it's still going to be a quality product, but I'm just like, man, do we go and get something fantastic or or is this really going to be something we're in a year? >> I think so. I think in terms of us especially not having one, this is more broad scope versus granular. And right now we're kind of on that that bigger picture. And then once our bigger picture is created, then we can find some people who specialize in the the smaller pieces. >> Okay. >> And I just dropped

078those other two. I found them. They're in >> letting me link or I'm assuming that David one is the one. >> Yes. >> Yeah, we didn't get one for the 5,000 the one McKinley. >> No, I didn't. She has not sent it to me as of today. the 5,000 a day, but David's also I think came in at 5,000 in general. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. >> 564. Yeah. >> Oh, she was talking about Okay. Oh, I have no further. Okay. smiles. You >> No, I can make a motion. Okay, go for it. I move we approve the um uh strategic plan and team building program as presented by CES. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I second. >> We have a motion on the floor

079by Miss Miles and seconded by Mrs. Kobos. Um, all in favor say I. >> I. Um, motion passes. Item 7 C, first reading of policy change G-2550, professional support staff sick leave. Um, >> I think you jumped. >> Did I? >> No. group of bills. >> Where? >> 78. >> Uh >> oh. >> Well, you're you're fine. >> Yeah, he's fine. >> 17. Yeah. >> Yes. Unless you have a different one. But >> the one the paper copy in front of you. Oh. Is wackad >> is Well, I didn't even look at the >> Yes. I'm going up. >> I mean, it's not, but it is. It's just listed under finance and facilities versus business. >> Oh, yeah. It is different. >> Okay. >> Go up. Huh? >> I have it. >> Am I? So,

080mine says that Okay. >> That eight is approval of December bills and payroll. >> Yeah. It's because we're on the computer is different for some reason. >> Yeah. So, yeah, that was seven. It was 7 C. >> That was 7C for the first treating. >> Mine doesn't have a 7C. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, I'll use >> mine and yours does not have 7C. I thought we're not on the same page. >> No, we're not. Now, we are >> literally the same. >> Yeah. Okay. I'm sorry about that. >> Yes. No, you're good. Okay. So, I'm going to hop over to >> Yeah, I didn't see this one either. Okay. I guess we just need to start adopting it with flexibility. Maybe not wait. Then we can >> Okay. So, we want to

081go up with this one. >> Yeah, let's go off the paper. >> Yeah. >> I didn't know it was I didn't know it was different either. >> Yeah, I didn't either. >> And I thought I changed both of them. So, obviously. >> Okay. So, now Okay. Item eight. Well, we need to do the first readings though for sure though, right? >> I see. Yeah, they're on there. >> Okay. So, um item 8A, >> approval of December December bills and payroll. >> Um have a motion the floor. >> I move we pay the bills and payroll for December. >> I second. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor by Miss Miles and seconded by Mrs. Kobos. Um, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Motion passes. Item 8B, approval of budget uh of

082budget adjustments. >> Uh, do we have a motion or >> Questions or concerns? >> I move we approve the budget adjustments. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I second. >> We have a second by Mrs. Batista. Uh most um we have a motion on the floor by Miss Miles and a second by Mr. Batista. Um all in favor say I. >> I. Motion passes. Um item C, approval of track resurfacing. >> So if you'll remember, uh the track resurfacing was uh capital outlay that we had gone out for last school year. Um and so this is you have the quote in there um for what the track resurfacing we received um 300,000 to do that and um the reason that we selected this company is this

083is who's also been working on Hager's track. Um, so after that analyzation of their track and how long that they their track has been good for, um, talking to their AD, this was the choice that was made. Um, so just know that this is capital outlay funding to pay for this. Okay. Uh, I move we approve the resurfacing, the track reservicing. >> I'll second. >> Okay. We have a motion on the floor by Mrs. Kobos and a second by Mrs. Miles. All in favor say I. I. I. I. >> I. By myself. Um, motion passes. Item D, approval of inventory deletions. >> And on there we have 2003 Chevy Silverado that has almost 300,000 miles and then uh treadmill at the fitness center and then three rowing machines that we've also been able to replace

084at the fitness center. So, um, once we get approval, Genie, for the Chevy Silverado, we're going to we have to write a letter to the state auditor. Um, give them 30 days to respond. If not, they don't respond, then we can move forward with trying to sell. >> Okay. >> I move uh for approval of inventory deletions. >> I'll second. >> Yeah. We have a motion on the floor by Mr. Kobos and a second by Mrs. Miles. Um, all in favor say I. >> I. >> Okay. Motion passes. Um, e, approval of slot computers for true touch boards. Jonathan, you want to talk about the >> our existing um computers in the true touch boards which are the interactive panels that the teachers use um only support up to Windows 10 >> and so Windows

08510 expired as of last October and so just moving forward we need to get those updated for cyber security reasons. >> Okay, >> it's it's a little computer on the back of all of those that we'll be replacing. I move >> for approval of slot computers for the true touch boards. >> Motion on the floor and a second. Um motion on the floor by Mrs. Kovos and a second by Mrs. Batista. All in favor say I. >> I motion passes. Um item F, first reading of PO policy change G--2550, professional uh support staff sick leave. That's just the first reading. >> Yes. And so just so that way kind of everybody's filled in. Um this the only change to this leave is currently we give this leave at the very first day of employment. All

086of the days that um a teacher gets, they are lump summed at the beginning. And the problem that we've seen with that is if we have a teacher who does not plan to stay with us, uh, by Christmas, they can exhaust all their leave for a year in that time. So even if they necessarily chose to only stay with us three weeks, they would be able to utilize that leave. And so most other districts have a in their policy how they're going to do that. And so what this would do is the at the beginning of the school year, whatever that looks like, depending on teachers um or 12-month employee, they would get their two >> what are those days called? >> Earned personal days to start with and then on the 10th of the

087month starting in August to April, they would acrew a day on the 10th of the month. So that's that's the change to that policy. Not changing the number of days or anything else, just um how they're given. >> Awesome. Um item 8G, first reading of policy change I-71000, class rankings, uh grade point averages. And so with this um currently our board policy took GPA as well as percentages um which you can't mathematically do. So, some school districts use just GPA um and that's weighted and non-weighted together or they go through there and they take the 90 and the 95 and the 92 and they average that together to come up with our board policy said we utilized both. So, I hope as you read through that policy um please ensure that it's clear. We've had
