Okay. Okay. It is 6:03. We will call this meeting to order. We do have enough for a quorum. Um, please rise for the pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. I salute the flag of the state of New Mexico, the symbol of perfect friendship among United. >> Thank you. And thank you all for being here. >> We will be going to item three, consent agenda. Uh do we have a consideration to adopt the meeting agenda? >> I move we adopt the meeting agenda. >> Thank you. We have a motion by Mr. Davalos. Do we have a second? I'll second it. Okay. Second by Miss Goia. All in favor? >>
I. >> Okay. Meeting agenda has been adopted. Um item B, consideration to approve minutes of previous meetings, which was November 10th of 2025, and those minutes were in our packet. Do we have a motion to approve those minutes? >> I'll make a motion to approve those minutes. >> Okay. We have a motion by Miss Goia. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay. We have a second by Mr. Davalos. All in favor? >> I. Good. Item four, reports. Um, item A, construction report. >> Uh, so we got a preliminary survey of utilities and it was presented to maintenance. Um, Chris took that to the city just to ensure that all of our utility lines were coded. Um, so that way we don't hopefully have any surprises later. And so now we're awaiting Decker
um to begin site layout possibilities. Um, so with that information based upon where the utilities lay, there'll be different sites that are possibility and they'll provide that to us. So I look I I thought we would ramp up a little bit faster than we have, but in the next little bit I can see where hopefully after utilities are in line and they start sending actual plans, then we'll have start having meetings for that again. >> I'm sorry I'm late. >> You're you are perfectly fine. We knew we had enough to start. We knew we were at sub. Thank you. Um item B, it doesn't even have any questions, comments, concerns regarding construction report. >> Okay. Item B, um student reports. >> No student or teacher reports. >> Okay. Um item C, board reports. >> Go
ahead. >> Board reports. Um I just want to um congratulate everybody. They did a great job for the Thanksgiving lunch. Um I came with Olivia Grace to to that and I saw everybody working super hard. So that was really nice to see. Nice to see all the kids. They're so excited when we come and have lunch with them. You know that's this is their little world and you know they want to share. So it just made their day and then it also made my day to see everybody work so hard together. and um just the the it's what you expect to see in a thriving uh environment, which is all your leaders leading. So, I was very happy to see that. I saw absolutely everybody up there. Great job. Um if you don't mind, I
kind of made a list because um >> no, go for it. >> Um >> you might double up. >> Good. Yeah. [laughter] >> Um also the agricultural career exploration um stations. I I didn't get to make that. I was at work, but it made my day to seeing everything online. Saw the pictures. Um, that was super exciting. I saw somebody brought uh some holings. I was a little bit jealous, but I worked through it and I um I was very happy to see all that um and see the community get involved and everybody take the time out of their day to come and be a part of that. Um I couldn't that particular day, but um that's exactly why it takes a team of of people to to be a part of that. Um, also,
um, it's I saw in one of the reports, 119 students met their AR goal and they got soda floats and and extra recess. So, um, I was not one of those students. >> No, no, no. So, I'm extremely proud of it. >> I was your librarian. >> Yeah. >> So, anyway, yep. That's I thought that was pretty neat. >> Thank you, Mr. Fellows. Anyone else? I would like to report that I attended the NM SBA conference with Mrs. Pista and Molly Pierce. Um, we did get to I was able to attend to a training of AI the what is bars and superintendent contract laws and current legal issues. So it was very informative and very a productive um trip for us and I would highly recommend for new board members to attend the bars. It's
very informative to understand this genie's work. So I appreciate all your work that you do miss J. Um I would also take this want to take this time since it's my last day serving as a board member. Um I would like to take um thank my community for the trust and support and engagement that you guys have had with me. So thank you so much. >> We appreciate it. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Um I just wanted to say thank you to the Dexter Fire Department for the parade for the football team. Um I know that's kind of become a little state championship tradition since we've had so many in the past few years. And so those I know those boys and the teams look forward to that. And so thank you Dexter Fire for
getting that out there. And I know it was probably last minute and all the things, but I know it matters to them. So super cool. And then I wrote something for you, Miss Wanita. So get it off my phone. Okay. So, Miss Wanita, as you attend your last meeting as a member and vice president of the Dexter Consolidated School Board of Education, I want to take a moment to express our deepest and most grateful appreciation for you and your service. Your devotion of time and dedication has been nothing short of inspiring, and your presence on the board has made a lasting impact. You have always approached your responsibilities with the heart of a true servant, putting the needs of our students and community first, listening with empathy and making decisions guided by integrity and care.
Your commitment to doing what is right for kids rather than for recognition has set a bar for all of us to follow. You've seen tough challenges. We've seen tough challenges. things that could could have worn anyone down, but you've always chosen to step up, lead from the front, and be the tip of the spear when it has mattered the most. You've sewn seeds of new ideas and water of the ones that others planted, helping them grow and make a real difference for kids. I know. Oops. Through your leadership, Dexter's children have benefited from your voice, your insight, your heartfelt efforts. You've reminded us that public service isn't about titles or positions. It's about making a real difference in the lives of those that we serve. You've inspired all of us. You've shown what true leadership
looks like. Putting others first, listening with empathy, and never losing sight of the kids at the center of every decision. Dexter, your kids, the work you've done, both seen and unseen, will continue to benefit children's for children for years to come. We are deeply grateful for everything you've done. Thank you for your generosity of your time, your wisdom, and your selfless spirit. Your service of putting kids at the center of every decision will continue to inspire and guide us for years to come. >> We're gonna miss you. That's funny. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> But you still have to stay. >> I know. You still have to stay and for the followers. Sit right back. >> I will show myself. >> Well, I so enjoyed the state championship playoff day. Everything about it. The
sky was blue and the drums were playing. [laughter] It was just really a lovely lovely day. Um, this could have turned out the boys might have had it in a little I was really proud of them. They did a good job and it took a lot of team effort from everybody to have such a beautiful day. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Um, before I forget, I almost forgot the to touch on the reunification. That was a very >> Yep. That was a very good drill. I understand it was the first time. Very first time ever, huh? >> In a while. >> Okay. >> You also attended a dates. >> Yeah, I did. Yeah. >> Yeah. There's a bunch. I'm telling you. But anyway, that um understand it was I mean that that was new
for me. I'm glad I I I was able to be a part of it. was one of the ones that showed up on the wrong side of of uh >> the church. I did. I showed up on the back side, but I quickly got redirected. Oh, no. You got to go through the front. Um so that was a I everything went very successful from what I understand. I know everybody was tired because you're on your feet, you're on concrete, you know, but we appreciate all you guys do. >> Thank you. Um item D, superintendent report. Okay. So, before we since we've talked about Miss, I wanted to present Wanita with this platform thanking her for her service to extra schools and all that that you've done for us. >> Well, will you um reach that
just in front of that window so that I can >> So, we Thank you. Thank you. And then um in the packet you should have gotten um superintendent absences report. Um this is past absences since November and anything scheduled um there. [laughter] So as of right now um not a whole lot you want to know I have dentist appointment on the 18th. But then uh reunification drill. So I kind of wanted to touch on this piece um because we still have some questions and some thoughts. Um we probably will have another one of these for a few years to kind of get ourselves um trained well and then from there um the state recommends every three years. Currently we did a modified drill and it's more as if we would to evacuate over there and
we would release as normal. if that drill was to be something um of catastrophic failure um it could take us a long time to release students. So we still were still trying to release students quite quickly. We still ran buses as normal. Um more than anything we wanted to see what are our kids look like in here. We have a better idea of um students and how they fill out spaces where we might need to move them. Um, if we do a drill similar to that, again, how do we get kids out u the door a little more quickly, I'm hoping that even some of our people who don't necessarily always do um parent pickup, that they have a newfound respect for those people who do it day in and day out because they know
those vehicles quite quickly. I know they struggled um maybe with us doing it, but hopefully with that piece, they we we've trained a few more people to do that as well. If this was a catastrophic failure, parents would have to park and they would come to the door um and we would reunite them singly. Um Uvaldi took 11 hours to reunite families. So just to kind of give you an idea that it it might not be quick. We are still trying to still run quite quickly because we want kids to go home. We want families to to leave here. And so I see in the future we're still going to probably run pretty similar. But if there was some sort of um large event, just know it may not be as quick as what we
have um practiced. Um and then congratulations to the football team, state runners up as well as we had six seniors who played for the all-star game. Um so that's exciting. Um they do it a little different now. It used to be north south, so all our boys play on the same team. Now um they're split on the all-star red or green teams and they play that way. So we had um students on both sides. So that's kind of exciting. They they kind of get to have a little rival rivalry against each other. >> Um so with that, NMAA did come out this week with some changes. Um football will move to 2A and right now there's only two districts. It does allow us to play a lot closer to home. Um, currently our district is
Texico, Ununice, Jao, uh, Tularosa, Capitan. So, a lot closer. We're not having to travel across to Cobra. Um, except Cobra did drop down. And so, Cobra is petitioning with some other schools to hopefully pull themselves into a different district. So, that way they're not having to come meet all of us on our home. Um, it's 900 miles to Texico from them um, round trip. So, they're really looking at how does we make this economic for for everyone. And I think that's um the biggest piece is where do people sit based in that. So, excited to see what that will look like um for next school year. Nothing else really changed to meet our needs. We are 14 students over being able to be 2A across the board. Um so, that might be a possibility at
at some point. We did ask if we petition to go 2A um in all the other sports and they said really those are not typically granted um based on numbers and that's all we needed. We just said okay you know thanks for allowing letting us know. Um, I would like to talk to you guys tonight about 90-day plans. And so, we're going to see Jonathan and I tried this earlier. And so, hopefully it works. So, some 90-day um plan comparisons from this year um to last year. Um on 90-day plans there is um what they the public tableau and this information here is u accessible to the public and I am going to provide a um post after this meeting so that way the public can also get on there and look through this information.
You can pull up any school based upon this information. And this is a grade essentially of how your school did with their 90-day plan. This doesn't mean that they met their 90-day plan. They didn't, but they wrote a good plan that was obtainable. Here is our Dexter Elementary School plan. And you can see these are state averages at the top. And Dexter Elementary this year, their plan received fully evident across the board. So, they wrote a really, really well-written plan and they met all the state's requirements in that area. Um, this is great to see where you need to grow, but also give you some information on are we at least meeting the state's requirements in those plans. So, if you'll notice the left is this year's plan. Elementary was fully evident across the board.
Um, and last year no plan was completed. So when you get on there on the tableau, you can type at the top 24 25 and find how they did there. Um our elementary school plan currently um is for 90 days and as we really look at these plans and we have created them not necessarily just at the school level. We have helped here at central office one day. We were too ambitious with a lot of our plans. we didn't go minute enough to actually meet some of these um goals. So, in the future, we're going to hopefully look at some data a little bit more um granular so that way we can ensure we're meeting those goals because that's really the point. In 90 days, what can we actually accomplish? Well, 90 days goes by
really, really fast. And so in the future, our hope is that we take those plans and we go a little bit smaller chunks and have really good action steps so we can meet those needs. Um we are planning on um rolling a lot of these over for next 90 days as well because we have not met them. But I think it's important to notice that across the board we do have plans. There's um one for math and one for ELA for elementary. And then our middle school plan last year, our middle school did have a plan completed last year. This year, our middle school plan has one area that's partially evident um that we can work on. And then last year's plan had some uh not evident um on the core team. And so in
the future we can improve that one area, but as well that middle school plan probably is a little lofty and we really need to go a little bit um smaller as well. Middle school also has an ELA and math plan. These are available on New Mexico Vistas and I'm going to go there in just a minute. But with this you can see what the plan is, how long they're going to do something and then if that has happened. So high school is a little bit different. Last year we had no plan as well. This year we also have another area. There's a performance challenge that we didn't meet. It was only partially evident. So as we move to the future, we have areas that we can grow and that way we can become fully evident.
What I really like about this is we can look at other people's plans. We can see what they're doing. If they're making a lot of growth with um students, we can see what their plan looks like and how they're obtain. And so we can somewhat mimics some of these goals as well. High school however only um is required one goal at the state level and that's graduation. So they [clears throat] look at percent um gradu graduation rate. However with that high school felt that it was really important to look at absences because that determines whether students graduate or not. And so their goal is all on student athletes pretty fast. Do you have any question? >> So the Tableau is really good. Um it has the 90-day plans and then New Mexico Vistas. Tableau has
them scored. The New Mexico Vistas has the plans laid out. So you can look at at the district as well. Um New Mexico Vistas. Here we can view by district. So, it tells us our enrollment, how many schools we have, and then based upon that, our math proficiency for this last school year, we're at 16%. So, we have some growth. And I did um post to the public this information. And in 35% reading proficiency, however, here's where we did. We made growth. So, in math, we were in the 43rd percentile for growth and the 45th percentile for reading. So, lots of growth happening. And then our graduation also grew grew 2.4%. Some of these other additional um metrics are going to be coming in uh January. And whenever you click on them, it tells you
exactly when those are. >> And then you can come down here and you can go based upon school, their enrollment. Um all three of our schools are in the traditional designation. So we're in the middle of the path. There's spotlight schools um are the highest percentage and then there's designation which is lower if they deem one area or u designation for the entire school. This to me is really good for the public to just see yes we're not at our goal. Obviously we have really high standards. We don't want our students to only 23% of them to be proficient. However, at the elementary school level, they were in the 60th um percentile for growth in math. So, we're not there yet, but we are making growth towards those goals um in math and in reading.
Um the attendance is currently uh available. However, just like our attendance data for all of last year, only 77% of elementary was in attendance. However, 98.9% of high school was in attendance. So, we know that that's an area and we have really ensured that people are taking attendance. We are reporting it correctly on 40th and 80th day. Um, so that way this number is a better reflection of what's happening. should be able I did this on Wednesday last week. There is a way in which you can go to the um plans from this but I'm but New Mexico dash also has I think if you go oh I don't know it's showing on mine it's a little link that little New Mexico dash is where you can find the plans and click on them. This
part is what percentage worth of growth are we looking for? the state does have metrics in which they want you to meet. So, um, sometimes we think there's no way that we're going to show 10% growth within the school year. That's a state mandate essentially is this is what's appropriate. Anything less than that is not enough growth shown. So, you'll notice that we have 10% growth districtwide and then we break that into 5% for each 90 days. I will be posting all of this so people will have access and can look at this. Um hopefully please do look at it because it's really important. Um our administrators and teachers work really hard on on these plans as well as student um information. And so just looking through it and asking questions of hey what does
this mean um is really important as we make go um and meet some of our goals. And then last thing on my list um is the high school dual credit information and state guidance. Um so based upon we have sent home letters to all of our students in um sophomore, junior, seniors and to make things across the board um equitable for all because our um sophomores who are in the healthc care pathway have a class that they can take here as a a sophomore that is a dual credit class. Um Mr. Lovelin teaches that class. So, we have opened that up to all sophomores to take a class as a sophomore, one per semester because that's best practice and then after that two per semester in their junior and senior year. Uh, Miss Miller has
sent home multiple notes. They sent home multiple texts to families. Um, the deadline has come and gone for the first semester to sign up. Um, but they they did reach out multiple times to them. The other piece of that is it comes down to students next step plans. Currently, we're still doing paper next step plans. In the short future, the state has provided us with an online resource to start doing that. And so, we'll be able to do that um on an online platform and not just our own creation. So they have told us January that we should have access to the the online piece right questions. >> Okay. >> Um okay that was 4D superintendent report. So we are on five on public forum. I do not I don't think there's anyone. So we
are good. Um, six, we are on business. 6A, approval of out ofstate travel for school nutrition association legislative action conference, March 7th through 11th, 2026, Washington DC, one adult and I believe she is here. >> Okay. she would like to write. I know it it was based upon a scholarship and Rosalinda wrote a scholarship in memory of Lyman Graham and so she is here tonight to read her her scholarship application. Um and so then we I'll recommend that we pass that. remember walking into the school cafeteria for the first time and seeing Lyman greeting every student with his plan. Even as a child, I could tell he cared about us. Wyman was more than just a food service director. He was a friend, a mentor, and a man who loved feeding children. The best part
of his job for him was knowing he was changing children's lives through nutritious food. Lyman has been part of my life since I was a little girl and raised. My mom worked for him for over 23 years and through her I got to see firsthand the dedication and kindness he brought to his work. As a child, I often help my mom during the summers the summer food program. And that's when I really started to understand how much time and cared about making sure every student was fed. My mom and Lyman share a special bond that went beyond words. Even when her English didn't come out perfectly, Lyman always understood her. They had a way of communicating through laughter, patience, and mutual respect. Their friendship was built on trust, hard work, and shared love for serving
others. After my mom passed away, I often thought about how much she admired my men and how proud she would be knowing I continued to follow their footsteps, carrying on the work they both cared so deeply about. In 2003, I graduated high school and in that same year in August, I started working for Dexter School in the cafeteria. I also got to work with my mom. A few years later, Lyman became my food service director. Over the years, I came to know him not only as a leader, but as someone who inspired others through his passion for student nutrition and believe that every child deserves a healthy meal. Lyman Graham, director of food services, truly believed in the importance of school nutrition and making sure every student had access to healthy, delicious meals. He cared
deeply about the well-being of children and worked hard to create programs like breakfast in the classroom, nutrition, and salad park. His dedication and compassion during his many well-deserved national awards for his service. But what mattered most to him was seeing the students, his being happy and nourished every day. He da he dedicated his career to improving school nutrition programs at Rosville Independent School District, Harlo School, and here in Dexter School. London fought for all students to have access to free healthy school meals. Something that's finally becoming a reality today through the healthy universal school meals. His vision and hard work continue to make a difference in the lives of students and families across Mexico and the nation. Lion believes in the power of kindness, hard work, and doing what's right for kids. His legacy lives
on in every cafeteria he built and every program he started and in every child who gets gets to enjoy a healthy meal because of his dedication. Healthy school meals are vital for our youth, not only in New Mexico, but across the nation. When children have access to nutritious meals at school, they are better able to learn, focus, and grow. For many students, school meals are the reliable source of healthy food they receive each day. Providing balanced, nourished meals help them helps them build stronger minds and healthier futures. Lin understood deep and for his liong work continues and his lifelong work continues to remind us that feeding children is one of the most powerful ways to support their success. If I am chosen to attend the legis legislative action conference in Washington DC I hope to
gain a deeper understanding of how nutrition policies are shaped and at the national level and how I can make a difference in my own community. I want to learn how to advocate for our programs that ensure every child in America has access to healthy nutritious meals just like lemon fought throughout his career. This experience will allow me to carry on his legacy standing up for students supporting food service professionals and making sure that no child will thank you for allowing me to share about a man who made such a lasting difference in my life and the lives of so many students. I carry both my and my mother's legacy with me and the work that I >> Thank you, Rosalinda. [clears throat] You [laughter] >> This is just um for permission to go. She has
uh received the scholarship and it'll be 100% paid through the scholarship. >> Congratulations. Thank you. >> Okay. Do we have a motion uh for approval of out of state travel? >> I would like to move forward to approve. >> Okay, we have a motion from Mr. Goia. Do we have a second? >> A second. >> Okay. A motion for Mr. Goia, second from Miss Miles. All in favor? >> I >> You're going to Washington DC. This has never been on. >> You get to go like you get to dress up like isn't there like a night where it's like super glitzy and >> I'm not sure. >> You don't know it. Oh, girl. What? >> She's actually going to love this because she's actually going to get to go to our to our capital and
actually go meet with representatives and and talk to those when they're there in Washington DC about the different. So, she's going to learn a lot while she's there. And they really do it upright. And you're correct. They'll have a >> I kind of remember Lyman going to this. Do you kind of remember that he received because he received he received like a national recognition? >> You did. >> And this is the Lyman Gram award that that he's getting. It wasn't just >> about Lyman, but they've named it that. >> That's all that's really awesome. >> Yeah. Super cool. >> Item uh 6B, discussion approval of school board team building and strategic plan. So that was um >> so this has been on the for a while. Um this weekend I actually met some more people
and I would like you to table this for one more um and I would like in January to bring in one more um quote as well as a presenter on information. Um Gallup McKinley uses someone out of Los Alamos and when I spoke to her, she's I think assistant superintendent. she may be um at the meeting she talked about how this plan that she has with Gallup McKinley is more um granular and they're actually seeing goals being met based upon the way that they created their plan. Um so it sounded very different than the three week options we already had. And so I think that it would be worth our time to to explore this. It might be out of our our price range and it might not be what we want. Um, but I
think it's worth the the look. >> So, we're just >> Yeah, I was going to say, does somebody want to put a motion? >> So, I'll make a motion to table the school board strategy plan. >> Okay, we have a motion to table. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay, a motion, a second. All in favor? >> I. So, we will table that one more time and hopefully look at G what Gin sees or what they're using, I guess. Um, okay. Item seven A, approval of November bills and payroll. Any questions, comments, concerns, discussion or motion? >> I would like to make a motion to pass the NP. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor >> for November. >> I'll say member for November. Okay, motion and a second. All
in favor? >> I. >> Um item B, approval of uh budget adjustments, but there were none. So >> nothing. Um item C, approval of stuckle work at build house. >> So the quote is attached for this last year for our capital outlay funds. We went out for 150,000 and was awarded those funds through capital outlay. So, we brought a quote for 105,000 um to have the Stuckco as well as it repainted. I don't know if you've seen the fieldhouse on multiple sites. It's starting to it leans out at you a little bit. So, that's why it was put on for capital outlay and we were awarded that funds. So, that's not going to come out of operational or anything. This money has to be used on the fieldhouse. So, >> awesome. >> What color are
we going to go? Um, demon blue. >> It a gray color for Stuckco. And then all the trim will be demon blue. Doors, the um >> awnings, the the what? The water comes out of >> the trim, the down spouts, >> down spouts, >> all will be all that >> blue. Cool. I move we approve the stuckle work. >> Okay, we have a motion on the board. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay. All in favor? I >> I motion passes finally. It's going to look so much better. >> That's exciting. >> So much better. >> That's gonna be nice. >> Um item 8A, new hires. We have Courtney Courtney Link, a co- assistant baseball coach, and Ruben Nino, co-assistant baseball coach. >> So I I think just explain this. We had
both of them apply. Both of them bring very different things to the table for us. um on baseball. After the committee met, um it was brought to me that both of them would serve in different capacities and so they asked if both of them would be willing to split the stipen that they receive and they will. So it's not extra stipens for e either of them. Um so we would like to go with co- baseball coaches assistant >> assistant. >> Okay. Item B, resignations. None. Um item 9A, correspondence. No, >> no correspondence. Item B, future meetings and events. December 8th is the middle school. That's tonight. That's happening right now. >> It is. >> Um December 15th, elementary school Christmas program at 5:30 at the elementary. December 22nd through January 1st is winter break, no
school. January 9th, uh professional work day, no school. And then January 12th is our next regular board meeting. Does anybody else have anything to add? Nope. Okay. Nope. Okay. Um, item 10, adjournment it. Do we have a motion on the floor? >> I'll make a motion to adjurnn this meeting. You're lost. [laughter] >> Motion by Miss Wanita. Um, do we have a second? >> I second. >> Second by Mr. Davalos. All in favor? >> I. This meeting is ajourned. >> [laughter] >> Missita for for
