Item A, consideration to adopt media agenda. Do we have a motion on the floor? I will make a motion to adopt the We have >> Sorry, it's off. We have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay, we have a motion by

002Miss Siggo and a second by Miss Lopez. All in favor? >> I motion passes. Item 3B, consideration to approve minutes of previous meetings, uh, which was the regular board meeting on September 8th, 2025. Do you have a motion on the floor? I make a motion that we approve the minutes to the previous meeting. >> I'll second. >> Motion in a second. All in favor? >> I motion passes. Item 4A, construction report. Um, we did have something in our packets, I think. >> No, nothing for the construction report, but uh we went to the PSOC, Genie and I, on on Wednesday of last week. Um, the committee did pull us off the consent agenda. So, we were we got there thinking it was going to be quick, easy sailing through there and they pulled us off

003um and asked us multiple questions about our current cafeteria um as well as how dare us allowed kids to walk across the street to go to lunch and after that they were okay with all the answers. So, we received an award for 91,492 square foot. So, um, we anticipate the design phase for the project to, um, start really soon. Last week, we did have, uh, the surveyors out, so >> we're getting closer. >> Exciting. Yep. Yep. Hooray. >> Okay. Um, student teacher reports. You have any? >> Okay. Item C, board reports. We have, um, elementary board report that was in our packet. Um the Anybody have any questions, comments, concerns? No. The middle school >> I enjoyed reading them all. >> Then we had the middle school report and the high school report there. Questions,

004comments, concerns. Good. Cafeteria report maintenance. You guys read through all those. Do I mean should we read I don't know if we should read those out loud or I don't know that. And then the step report. So, and K12, everybody good? We're good. Okay. Superintendent report. >> Okay. So, I'd like to start with goal update for I kind of wrote those. >> Oh, you know what? I'm so sorry. I said board reports, but I didn't like actually >> Oh, go board >> and and maybe we need to rename that's the other thing. We probably need to rename it department reports >> and then also have a board report section because Yeah, that just confused me. Just >> Mr. Davos, I think does at least be able to talk a little further. >> Oh, so yeah.

005No, like I said earlier, um we were able to clarify the clerical clerical error on the lack of hours for my first year on the board. So, um thank you for fixing that for us. >> No more shaming. >> Yes, no more shaming. Yeah, I did my job. I showed up and we we did way more than 10 hours, but you know, that's all we needed to do. >> Yeah. >> So, >> you also came for the audit the audit. >> Ah, that's right. Came to the >> We've done quite a bit actually. Yeah. >> Came to the audit meeting. That all looks good. Everything there is um looking like it's supposed to. Um also went to the Carl's bed meeting down there. >> Kudos to them. Yes, >> they had a heck of a

006meal for us. So, the culinary class prepared Wow, it was a feast really. But, um, >> we also um were able to see the new fine arts. >> Oh my gosh. Yes. >> And it was it's really amazing. >> Yeah. [Music] >> You good? I'm good. Good. I'm good. Um, I do just want to say um my condolences to Mr. Braramlet. He served and to Mr. Braramlet's family. He served for 19 years, I believe. >> I think that's right. >> And so, um, Wow. >> Yeah. >> He even came back and served. >> He did come back for like a little interim period a few years ago. And so, super thankful for his service. Thankful for his family to share him with Dexter schools and for him. He was such a go Dexter. Yeah. always.

007Always. So, thank you so much. >> He did not actually graduate from Dexter High. >> He just came back after marrying. >> He went to elementary school, middle school here, and then like when he was married, they moved away and then he came back. But all of his kids graduated from here. >> Several grandkids. >> Yes. >> Yep. >> You will be missed. So, I have quite a few things on superintendent report. So, the first piece is the 2526 bowl update. Um, so I'm just going to hit some highlights in terms of um our culture and climate walkthrough as we started in September. My goal is to get some other people to go with me in the future as I do those. Um, it's important for me for especially our central office staff who doesn't

008u necessarily always get out and about in the schools regularly to also see all the things that are happening there. Um, as well and some good things as I've gone through there. Um, a lot of the things I thought might need to be corrected have already kind of started to self-correct. So, lots of really good things happening in our buildings in terms of climate and culture and people. um coming to school and wanting to be there. So that's exciting. Um conducting two student and staff culture climate surveys a year. Um initially I really wanted us to create our own survey. However, sometimes when we're already doing something statemandated, it's easiest just to go ahead and utilize somebody else's survey. So we have looked at Panorama in which our students already take um there's also a

009staff and parent version of that. So, we will provide that. It's currently going on right now. Um, we will also provide it again in the spring to have a comparison um with that. So, those of you who have not taken it, please take it um as a staff as well as if you have a student um it's important for us to know exactly um thoughts and feelings for both places. Um, so number two, the biggest of our our mountains to climb in terms of completing and submitting all required reports. Um, so that way we have an accreditation that's flawless in terms of that. Um, it sounds really nice and easy that, you know, we'll get accredited. There's only 10 things on the list. However, um, the deeper we get, the more things we find that

010we need to fix for all of it to come together. So um board training again we have reached um in SBA I reached out to them and we have confirmation that the board members have met their trainings and I kept that email in case we ever need to dispute that come next year. Um New Mexico school dash plans. All of our schools have current dash plans. I've included those um as well for you guys to see. We're coming up on our first review of those. So, our administrators can look and see for the first 30 days um what happened and and did they meet their 30-day goal. Um on the education plan, which is part um I filled this out this last spring because it was sent to me and said, "Hey, you need to

011complete this." In the future, we will utilize this as like our districtwide um 90-day plan. and we I'll utilize not just myself but others in this so that way we can create something that supports the 90-day plans that will be created um later. This has to be filled out um in March or April whenever our budget is due. So it is kind of hard. It's a little more overarching than our neocations. Um but future years I hope us for us to be a little more narrow. I was very generalized this year in terms of what we were going to do. um budgeting um we didn't meet expectations um for this as well as our school level expenditures which also go with budgets then did meet and so those two things I need some clarification from

012PD in terms of what constitutes passing and what doesn't because those two things should have went hand inand in terms of what that looked like um on whether we passed or not we have created um like a a timeline for when we want things done so they're are done in a timely manner and that way we can ensure in terms of budgeting and school level expenditures. This year we did not when we received this in August we didn't petition for anything to be changed even though some of these areas um we could have I felt like it's very much we need to take this information and look hard at what we're currently doing and then go back out and make changes based upon that. Um so with that 40th day just happened this last week.

013um NOVA and our reporting for um peed through NOVA is a giant beast. It looks at every single kid um all the information to a small piece of do students have an email address for a parent like we can be deemed for those things. So, uh, I really want all that have worked on that to know like it hasn't gone unnoticed because I thought, okay, yeah, we'll get it cleaned up by 40th day. It's taken everything we had staff-wise to ensure that we're going to make that because we had lots of errors previously and trying to get everything on the right track. Um, so school accountability addresses our graduation rate. Um, we were considered sufficient there. our attendance improvement. Um, now the state has us also create attendance plans. Those are due by October 31st.

014So, we're currently working on those. Um, that looks at individualized planning. So, each of our students this next year will have next step plans that are signed by parents as well. Um last Tuesday they sent us which Wednesday was 40 a day on class loads and class sizes to ensure that we met those areas at this time um on all of the information that we have. We will meet all of those requirements in terms of students in classes and case loads in which um staff hold. So, special ed case load waiverss as well. Um, we're looking good in terms of numbers there. The piece with special ed case loads is they always are changing. So, at each of the count days, it may look very different come February whenever we have another count day. We

015may have someone on a waiver, but we're not going to hire another teacher for one more student that comes in. So, currently we are good and that um gifted case loads as well. Um, so required subjects of instruction, we are currently looking at that for changes to the 2627 school year. Uh, there are some things that we need some PD guidance on and clarification on what does that look like because there are some legal documents that have some competing ideas. So currently the one that I can think of is sixth grade should have PE every single day is what we found. And so how do we ensure we meet that? Is that actually what they're meaning by this now that sixth grade is part of middle school? Do they actually have to have it or

016was this and it was written when sixth grade was typically part of elementary school? So those things we're going to get some clarification on just to make sure that um we meet those areas. So the next goal was maximizing bell-to-bell instruction. And with that um I did a walkth through on a third and 12 out of 55 classrooms showed teachers actively engaged in learning with students. So with this I have told teachers I'll be back um this this week. And so my whole goal is to see that our teachers are engaged in the learning that's not sitting at their desk not um by themselves but engaged with students. Does this take into account that some people are on prep? Yes. Does this take into account that, you know, I always have an elementary group who's

017going to be in PLC, so there's three teachers? Yes. However, I do want to mention that two of these 12 that were engaged in learning were substitutes. So, kudos to those two substitutes who were engaged with students. One of the classrooms had um students at a little table. She was doing math on a whiteboard with them. So excited to see that our substitutes are providing our students with engagement as well. Um ensuring that every minute of instructional day is used. Um after completing this last walkth through um we need to have some training on engagement. Um there's a big difference between compliance and engagement. Students can be compliant. They can sit there all day and and do what they're supposed to, but are they engaged in learning and are they actually learning? So, um, we

018have been in contact with a couple companies hopefully to see pricing and that's part of where our title money would like to go is is for some engagement. How do we get kids engaged? Not just sit sitting there and watching what's happening. Um, and then based upon um that as well, we're not ready for walkthroughs for the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of class because we need to have engagement throughout. So, as soon as we have some of that, then then we'll move into first and last 10 minutes and really looking at, you know, are all minutes of the class being utilized. Any questions on goal updates? >> Um, you said we passed one but didn't the other, but then they go hand in hand. >> That's exact. Yes. So, and this was

019>> this is just coming from accreditation from >> Yeah. on it. Oh, >> budgeting and >> school level expenditures. >> Okay. >> So, there must be this is all the information that they provided us. So, we need some specifics on what does that constitute? What are you looking at that provides that information? >> Okay. Yeah, that's where I was confused because I saw the financial audit, but I didn't know if that was what we were talk about. >> No. and and we have not submitted our financial audit late, but that's that's one of the places that is the issue is we didn't fight any of this. We just knew like, hey, we have a lot of room to grow, take this information and that way next year we make sure we meet all of these

020requirements. But those two requirements in general, the budgeting and the uh school level expenditures are hand in hand. And so it's interesting that you could pass one but not the other. So have to ask some questions to make sure that we meet those areas. So on 40th day um important to note the intense amount of work that uh both uh K12 programs and special ed have put in for us to meet those requirements um and just the amount of cleaning up that they've done. So thank you to them. >> What were what were our numbers at 40? >> So based on we have we're not complete through 40th day >> because it did not run correctly. So as soon as we have met those like we'll provide >> okay >> that information and then even

021special education has held multiple I IEP meetings to ensure that we're meeting needs of students as well as meeting the the state regulations. And then again, please take the panorama survey. It is out. Um, so then you come to 90-day plans and I have each and every one of them and hopefully you guys read through those. Um, all the principles took a long time to really think about how to to make a difference for their buildings and so this is kind of their road map for the rest of the school year on where they're going. Um, we are currently looking at our human resource procedures so that way we can meet HB128 law. Um, Palms and Associates and I have been in contact so that way they're they're helping every district. If you ask for

022help, they want everybody because um, they'll give us a help us get a break from Nimia for our $80,000. uh what is the uh deductible? So, it's worth any you know getting it all together is going to help us in the long run there as well. Last piece of this is I'd like to tell everyone that we have changed the the life skills name. We're rebranding that room um for our kids because those kids are not just learning life skills. We're going to call that room skills for success. We're giving students skills to succeed in that classroom that are not just life skills. It includes academics and everything in between. So, um it may take us a while for everyone to call it that, but if you see that information, um that's what that classroom

023is is we're providing those students with skills for success. So, make the example the skills the provided. >> So anything from it they're all based on the student's goals. So based on that specific student's goals. A lot of the times they're not academic based. A lot of the times it's something as as little as we have a student who's going to start doing some little jobs around the school like taking out the trash and we're going to see if we can't get him with a maintenance man for uh a day or two to kind of learn some trade skills, shredding paper, answering the phone. Those type of skills for your high school kids. Um for some of them it may be a goal in particular to be able to cross the street safely. So we

024stop, we look both ways and and we do those things daily without thinking. But those are safety skills that we need to instill in some of our students. So this class name change is so that way there's not a stigma on those kids that that's all they're getting in that classroom is life skills. We're providing them. A lot of them can read, they can write their name, the information. Let's don't limit them on they're just going to know life skills. a lot of them will hold a job and so that's the the need for the name change. So then you have profile of a graduate um and I provided a copy there. So the profile of a graduate was created with um future provost educators before myself or the current school principal. Um last year

025they created a mural. So, my goal is for us to utilize the profile of a graduate, which talks about what we want to see, how our students um when they leave here, they don't just know math and reading skills. They the professional growth they'll have, the leadership skills that they'll have. I would like to take the picture that they the students created last year, the painting, and overlay this information on there. Um so that way we will have it in the future. I think that's important um because that artwork does symbolize what our graduates here at Dexter School look like. Um some other schools have had some really great ideas in terms of um profile of a teacher or profile of an administrator and Artisia provided me with a copy of theirs profile of a

026parent in which they created with parents um to say like this is the what a a bulldog parent looks like to us and this is how you help provide an education for students. And so those are things that are on our list of things that we would love to do at some point in time. It just has not been the right time yet. Um subpay days update. Um so the two closest districts to us pay 120 a day. Um and then 132 and 150 for long-term um daily rates. The difference between those two districts is that they begin with 10 days. So, currently we're at 20 days. Um, when we get down to the bottom and we we go to a vote, I do recommend that we mirror them, in fact, to go to 10

027days. That way, we're sitting similar in pay, but however, we're mirroring them in the number of days uh that we're going to provide them. So, summer extracurricular programs, um, those were all sent through band. I understand this last year it was kind of a mess. We, but in the future, parents, if you would like for your students to join anything, you can call the school um, as well as all of those are posted on our website and Facebook page to join any club and the information is being provided at all times. So, they're continuing to add information. That's students and uh parents as well. If you do have any other questions about staff, um contact the athletic director. So, then we get to student and teacher attendance. So, for the student rates, I am very

028happy with this year's um current rates. Um our elementary school is sitting at 94%. Our middle school is 91% and our high school is currently sitting at 89%. So I think students are coming to school. Do we have some chronic absenteeism that we're fixing to target with our attendance plans? May we have to go doortodoor and start talking to families creating plans for individual kids? Yes. But as our overall attendance were doing really well. If you notice from last year, um this is part of that NOVA piece that has been cleaned up. Um our elementary last year at this time was 96%. I think that that could probably be accurate. >> However, our middle school was sitting at 45%. And our high school was sitting at 100%. So there is lots of things in terms

029of our uh student information system that if you do not have it set up correctly, we're not pulling data and sending it to the state. So I do see you know they may say well all of a sudden you have a drop from 100% to 89% well that is true but I do feel like our 89% this year >> is higher than our 100% last year. Um, so we have we hope for the future. >> Question is there's no way to like go and correct it and get the actual percentage. >> No, we can pull every single kid and do their own and provide their own speed that way. >> Yes. So that's in terms of when you set these systems up, it's very important to ensure accuracy on >> on that. Um, our staff

030attendance rates. When I first initially um looked at these a couple weeks ago, I really thought, "Oh no, we're we're up on the number of absences." And then did some real digging and looking. And when you compare it by the hour, that to me is really important. And so for last school year at this time, we had a 460 hours of absences. That's from all groups. This year we're at 385 hours. So, a definite improvement. Um the area though that we're still struggling is in terms of filled absences. That's the place where we have and we created some of that ourselves. So, those of you who don't know, we did a training at the elementary school. Um last week was one of those weeks and then there was a week in September for two days

031um K through three had training all teachers for two days four three no K through two and four through three through five. So we had three grade levels out each day. We will not be doing that again. Um it was already scheduled so we went ahead and rolled with it for this school year. Um, however, we now know that one grade level is probably the most that we can pull and for sure have subs for buildings. Um, it didn't just create issues at our elementary school because we pulled so many subs to elementary. We then had shortcomings at middle and the high school as well because the subs were all um there. So that's kind of just but that's that's our area is we do have some subs um who are in the process of

032getting their fingerprints done and then we're going to have a training on October 24th hopefully provide them with a handbook and some information on here's the process whenever you get into classrooms here's some basic behavior management and then also we're going to pay them to do the vector trainings um that is something Palms and Associates They even have their volunteers do it. So, we're going to start implementing that and we'll implement it at the beginning of the school year from now on for those um substitutes and we'll provide training for them. Um so, spring test scores um these are still embargoed and so this information should go live on in Vistas in November. Uh so currently when you look at that information note that it may change. We have not um we're not anticipating it

033changing. However, in the moment you don't anticipate it changing then it it will. So um do you guys want me to did you guys all have a chance to look at the test scores? >> They said 345, right? >> Or maybe I just didn't. What did I do with Well, I have them both, but obviously I didn't get them both put on here. >> I just figured because, you know, the barber, I was like, maybe they don't. >> Yeah. And so, as soon as we have that other information, we will provide you guys with an update. I would like to also do uh presentation in terms of um all the other data that we've eye station which is now a mirror data all of that information in one kind of package in terms of like

034here's where we are um and then kind of beginning of the school year because we do do now have beginning of the school year data and kind of the different look there as well. Um, so based on our certified teachers, our middle school ELA teacher is the only teacher who doesn't currently hold a license. We anticipate her getting a license um, beginning second semester. Um, our first grade teacher has arrived as well as middle school skills for success teacher has joined the district. Um, we have one high school teacher who has a license and we have applied for her to receive an endorsement uh, waiver to teach the subject that she's currently teaching. If I'm going to be very transparent, Dexter has not done any waiverss in terms of lure in the last several years.

035So, we are trying to get back to that. However, we really only have one teacher who doesn't have and she holds a license. She just does not hold it in that area. And so you guys have a copy of the organizational chart with everybody on it and then also lure the licenses that they hold. >> Any questions? >> No, but I think I think you said we didn't have any waiver or any repeat that >> any waivers but it was because we we were supposed to have waivers but we didn't have them. Correct. Correct. But now, but we have staff in places that they have licenses, >> right? It's just now we only have one that's going to meet. >> Yes. >> Previous we had more. We just weren't doing >> and we have set

036this up um for teachers to be successful in terms of providing them with a cuto off deadline of hey, you need to be able to receive. So once you have a license, um depending upon your license, if you have a K8 license or a 612 license, you can add endorsement areas once you're endorsed in any area for the most part by just taking the assessment. There's a few like gifted um that you actually have to take courses, but for the most part, you can go and take the assessment and then you're endorsed in that area. So she'll um go ahead and take that and we'll be where we need to be in that regard. Um so on the no phone policy, cell phone policy has decreased the cell phone usage at school. It hasn't eliminated

037it and we knew that was coming because the fact of um kids can go to the bathroom and still use a cell phone. Like we cannot stop them in that area. What we can do is limit the amount of time that they are in the restroom and those type of things. Um, middle school is currently utilizing an app in which students check in and out so they know exactly how long and those type of things to keep track that kids aren't just spending all their time. Um, Miss Ferguson had data collected from last year, so I thought that was super important. Um, we're down considerably from 30 documented last year in middle school um to less than 10. So it is working like we are seeing that we know that students are still on them.

038We also know that as the year goes on teachers typically let up as well. So ensuring that teachers are still continuing to set that expectation is super important um as well. Any questions? So fundraiser approvals and guidelines they flow through what we call success fund. That is the um app that we use for payment um card payment at all of our games and all of our fundraisers that now take card. Um there's three prong process depending on where those fundraisers are being sent to, but three different people have to approve them before they they come. Um, students are not I should say students are not not allowed to participate due to not fundraising. So, it's too many knots. Um, we have had already this school year for a group that said, well, if they don't

039fund raise, it was mostly from parents, well, if they don't fund raise, they shouldn't get the same thing as everyone else. And that has been corrected already. Like, if you don't fund raise, you still will receive the same. So, we're fundraising for a group. We're all the same. Like, we understand that some of them can go out and raise $1,000 and there's some of them that might can only raise $50 and we're taking those contributions um as such. So, there is a process in which that is put together. Um yes, wellness policy. Um we met for the first time last week in terms of wellness policy. Um, it was really just a preliminary overview because I hadn't seen the wellness policy. We brought in some other people as well just to kind of read through

040based upon their area of expertise. Um, we plan to have more meetings for wellness policy as well as provide some time for parents to give feedback and also help us build the wellness policy. um the state approves wellness policies first and then they come to the board um for approval after the state. So it is kind of backwards to other ways that the wellness the other policies are put it goes to them first and then back here for approval. So once that's ready um restorative practices there were some questions on that. um they're not statemandated and I actually learned a lot after reading through some stuff on the PED website. Um there is a fine line between restorative practices and allowing students to have control. U restorative practices really should focus on determining why behaviors

041happened, but it doesn't take the place of consequences. So consequences are still part of that. That doesn't mean that we don't send, you know, students home. we don't um not allow them to participate in things. Restorative practices really try to get to the root of the cause and really for those students to understand what happened and move on um based upon that information, but there are still consequences based upon those things. Any questions? Do we plan to go districtwide on >> I would like So I really feel that as the district moves everything that we can put K prek12 the better. Um so those of you who are parents will notice that even our dress up days this week are now prek12 everybody on the same page. You'll remind me next time we will also

042let you know oneita so that way you can be on the same um dress up days. It's important for us all to do the same and really it helps parents in the long run. So I would like for us to see us all go to a similar model. Um we have some parents who are experts in that and and we would love to utilize them. We just this is not the right time yet to to conquer this. This is a giant piece as we change. Um, as well as we have brand new principles in two buildings that to come in on August 1 and make an entire new behavior plan is not best. So, it will be rolling out and we'll probably do a lot of meetings based upon um that, but I do foresee

043us moving that way. And then student council trip that Miss Moreno last time brought up uh was for the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation miniigrant. Um based upon that when she got ready to submit it had been dissolved. They did not fund it. And so I thought initially uh when I reported not last time but I reported to one board member that beef jerky sale was the replacement for that. I reported incorrectly because they do that annually for all of their fundraising. Um she is currently looking at other grants that she might possibly could write and then we'll bring it back to the board for approval um if she does find something that fits her needs in that regard. That's all I have. Any questions? >> That's a heck of a report. How long did that

044take you to compile? Good job. >> It's good information. Thank you. >> I do. What are we doing um with high school dual credits and um like CTE? It's just the one more thing. >> So ask so that way I can write it down and I can make sure I report in terms of CTE. What is the >> Yeah. Like just what's going on with like college readiness? Yeah. What tracks with CTE do we have um like multiple you know do we have Mesa lands just eastern? So that is we we can only have Eastern. That's not an option to go back to Mesa Lance and that's at the postsecary level. >> You have they have to stay within their regions unless they don't offer something in that area. But then it still is very

045>> unless that Skyler was working at Eastern Mesa Lands was coming to an end here as well because of >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They are very territorial in their own right. >> I think that's it. >> Okay. Okay. We good? Everybody good? >> Okay. Okay. Um item five, public forum. Public comments and observations regarding non-aggenda items that fall within the purview of the board are considered at this time. Comments regarding matters under litigation will not be allowed and no action will be taken on items presented be referred to staff or other there's no one. Okay. Well, I just said all that. >> All good. Um item six, business. Item A, discussion and approval of school board team building and strategic plan. So you'll see CES quote now added as well. Toy, I thought you had

046sent me the one that Linda had and I cannot find it through email. So we can also add that on there. Um >> Oh yeah, it I did send it but I can't remember. >> I know you sent it to me. >> That was a while ago. >> Two months ago. Oh no, longer probably. I I even looked in July because I really thought it was July and we looked through July emails and I all I don't remember what the man's name was. >> David. >> I don't remember his last name though, but I can find out. >> Search David. >> I found it. I I'll send it to you right now. And then if you wanna >> Yeah. >> Find it. >> I search Davis's last name. >> Yeah. >> I don't know how

047to pronounce it. >> Mark something like that. I don't know. Mark. I don't know if you had this company the company that was July 8th when I got it like a consulting >> in the right month or I felt like I >> yeah it's it had been a while Have they opened on mine today? >> It won't open. >> No, >> they're not popping. You can see it and you can zoom in and kind of see it. And earlier today I got >> popping up on the corner. >> Yeah, >> just add the the two arrows to it. >> There is no errors. And then it's saying um your thing is on yours the >> Oh, I restarted mine. >> It's saying the Windows too small to support document previews. >> Yeah, >> I I

048can see them at my computer at home, but >> it just pops up. Yeah, but thanks >> all day every day. Hopefully Mr. Douglas is well, too. >> You're good. I already looked. >> Okay. It's on there now. Yeah. So, the the last one is the David M. I don't want to butcher his. And so, the total for this last one that is on there is 5,643. It includes mission, vision, values, improvements, analysis. >> I'm not sure. >> Which one are you reading? >> Um the this last one, the David M consulting. Mhm. >> I don't I know it's cuz I don't want to mess up his last name. CS came in at a total of $7,500 and they just kind of every like each one of them kind of designed it a little bit

049different. It seems like [Music] you >> Oh, actually, you know what? I couldn't I can't I need access. >> Yeah, I can. I thought I clicked. >> That's what he said. He opened his >> I didn't have any trouble earlier. >> Yeah. I thought I opened it, but my phone >> but didn't let me. Okay, you guys should be good. I was lost. Okay, I hope I can hear you. >> Where? >> So, um, >> so this is for strategic planning for for everybody kind of watching and listening in here. Um, so we we've kind of been trying to be forward thinking on making sure we're aligned here so that we can align for the district. And so having a strategic plan and somebody to guide us with that is kind of something that we

050we've been thinking about and we're finally at a point where we feel like it's a place where we can actually be. And so um, we've gotten three quotes. Um, David, I don't want to mess up his last name. David Markwall or how do you say that? >> It's Mark >> Mark um consulting and then CES and then um Arenso Romero. And so we've gotten three quotes um on how we can kind of work together and frame frame a strategic plan. And so that's kind of where we're at. device is reading the letter. Yeah, I'm looking through this real quick. So on one of them would be like a retreat with like some work sessions. um working through um agendas and facilitation roles which I feel like we've come such a long way with agendas like

051just since like February like we've just made gigantic gains which is so nice. Um, as you guys can see, we all have laptops now and everything's like we started off with and then things were hyperl now, which has made it so nice that we don't have these thick packets. Plus, we don't have to pay for mail. The district doesn't have to pay for mail because those were costing a hefty amount. It seemed like >> and time saved. I can tell you in terms of like if we get done on Wednesday afternoon, we're not worried that you only have Thursday to come pick it up or last right in the spring, you only had Friday to come pick it up. And if you couldn't pick it up on Friday, then it couldn't be basically mailed to

052you by Monday. Most of the time it had to be dropped somewhere. >> It's just ease and ability to get you guys information I think is better as well. >> Yeah. And even just now like dropping that document to her, it was super quick instead of having to go and print it, make copies, all of that. So it's just it's some of that has already but um the strategic plan just like board dynamics and you know with potentially getting we'll at least be getting at least one member if not two, right? So just making sure that we're aligned across and being good leaders and getting guidance on that because you know everybody everybody has we all have we all feel like we can work on something at all times. So figuring out their strengths or

053weaknesses all of that and so it'll be good. Um, so okay. >> Do we need to >> I I don't know whatever I don't know what you're um you guys are thinking. Does anybody have any discussions or like pros consider just jumping if you jump to a motion once you do it and you got to vote. So the time is now to have a discussion. So unless >> the CES one um says like they'll charge X amount to like put the plan together and give it to us. But then when I'm looking at our senos, I mean >> we've got a great agenda, but I'm not seeing like what's included >> and what the price is and all that. >> There was a second. Let me look at my And we want to be we

054want to be mindful of the money we're spending too. We don't want to. So that's kind of why we requested three quotes. So I mean like you mentioned earlier, they kind of, you know, sent in folks their way, I guess. Like >> Yeah. Kind of kind of what they they felt a strategic plan was rather than what And I guess Yeah. just I've never done a strategic plan so I have I'm glued honestly. So I mean I think I think it's a great idea. I just don't I've never done one to have a base of where that would start. >> And do did you do have you done one of the small in your time here? >> No, not like this. We did a lot of work um >> with search for the superintendent, >>

055right? >> But it wasn't it was >> and that was CVS, >> right? first. >> No, so I I mean I I'm looking at all of them. I'm liking the CES one. It's a lot more descriptive. I feel like this is their wheelhouse. So they may they've seen enough from several different schools and they may be able to accommodate a little better to what the board might need or superintendent Pierce might need. >> I I like CES, but I'm kind of only because I've already read that book. >> That's only if you want to do extended, right? Like that's an extra piece at the end whenever I spoke to them on the phone. >> Oh, really? >> Yes. Like they can continue it out. will like guide you at the beginning, but if you want

056them to come back, which is what they there's more. >> And you worked with David, Linda? >> Um I did I did a few trainings with him. Not um strategic planning. It was more team building, supervisory type stuff. I I really enjoyed it, but other than that, I haven't. Um he's done he does quite a bit of things for the state of New Mexico, the state agencies. He does a lot of trainings for them. So, do they have timelines? So, this one looks like it says six month for training because I didn't have that. So, the CS1 isn't including is not including the PDM. That's additional my [Music] Sorry guys, you guys are watching us look through all this stuff and it's like what what are they looking at? Read I can read do a

057read aloud. So when we look at the CES one um what is included in the cost is a it's like a pre-planning a community needs assessment um two board work sessions two sessions with the leadership team um complimentary strengths opportunities aspirations results um sore leadership team and then a board training on with the book grade on their behalf which is so good Um that guy was actually one of the speakers. Were you on at last the previous year's >> or one of the is so good the author >> of great on their behalf superb. Um and then uh the actual document, the strategic plan document for a grand total of $7,500 and that does not include travel and predium or the actual final plan copies like the actual hard copy of it. So don't include

058vision statement, mission statement, core values, strengths, opportunities, aspirations, develop goals, objectives, outcome measurements, indicators of success. That's kind of that. And that's like a six month timeline versus only two days. other page on David's the only thing I would have liked um to see but of course we didn't I guess we didn't know at the time to get back with him for a quote to include more than just the board on on that one because on his it's just five board members. >> Yeah. Instead of like the super >> Well, and so >> Well, I'm sure we could include the superintendent. So, >> well, yeah. And then even Yeah, because that's the other piece. So, like a lot of the times strategic plans include people from leadership, teachers, um uh students as well as parents,

059guardians, um anybody from maintenance to custodial staff. all of those staff are typically like also included in here. And so whenever we went out initially with thoughts for this um you guys kind of had given me the inclination that you wanted to kind of start small, figure some things out and then have an actual full strategic plan kind of as a as a planning. Um but we can always look >> I think that is remember because you were like at least get started and then we can branch out. It's like so much to write I don't >> it's a lot to do in two days period with any of them. >> Um >> yes >> I mean I think we're really looking at >> looking at our commonalities between everyone and ensuring that we're seeing

060okay here's where we the direction we kind of want to go that on paper and then that way you can come back with an entire group and at least have an idea where the board stands as a whole. um not just as a single individual. Whenever you strategic plan as with everybody is kind of I I didn't have access to our so now I'm like >> arenos was on the last board. Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah David that I didn't see again but it's been since July and David are two dates we had >> okay which ones are two and David >> okay >> and then the ces is the more extensive but that's only the president, vice president, and superintendent does like some pre-planning prior to involving everybody else on that one >> on

061the CES one. [Music] >> I think it's just good that we are at least talking about it and discussing it and choosing one. So, we weren't even this far. Good step. Going to give us more bang for the buck. Talking to them. I I didn't talk to um the Linda's person. Um, our Cineo's vision for school districts is really good. Um, when I talked to CES, however, um, I don't think I actually talked to the person who's going to come do it. Um, because it wasn't as expansive, nor was it as like I'm going to just tailor it to you. We do a lot of these CES like we do a lot of these versus whenever I talked to our CEO it was like well as soon as you know board president and yourself we

062kind of meet and we kind of have a vision and area then and it changes midstream like we just change with it and make it happen. Um not as I guess concrete in like this is the first step this is the second um a little bit more creative liberty with that. Do you think David would be like that flexible like son news or >> as far as >> like how she's saying like in the middle of the try like middle of the day or whatever like you guys are seeing more >> as more questions or things that you guys want to know that he would be flexible to change >> or >> Well, I know during our trainings he was flexible with the timing and the time depending on where we were as a group.

063Um I don't know if that's specifically what you're asking. >> Um we did six I think six sessions with him um at different times in Albuquerque where we had to travel >> and then we had some of our other um staff go and do some sessions and they really enjoyed them too. Like I said, I've never These were just like supervisory sessions and team building um and stuff like that. I haven't ever done strategic planning with him before, but he I really enjoyed it. I was kind of dreading going to these, but he made it interactive and he made it to where we were learning, but we were also enjoying what we were what we were doing and planning. So, has anybody done a strategic plan in general? Like anywhere? >> I have. >> But

064it's been it's probably been like >> What was the time like the time frame for that? >> It took us a long time. That's why I'm like two days. But we've got I mean it just seems like I mean because you have so many steps and things to think about and then when you're thinking of one thing, another thing pops up. I mean, not that it can't be done. Maybe it's just because we were all fairly new trying to come up with the strategic plan for our department back in the day when we were still CFD. >> But, um, I mean, that's kind of what we've been basing our things on is, you know, are we aligned with the strategic plan and what goals are we actually meeting and what we need to do next,

065like next steps. So, it's it's it's a lot. took the longest to decide to come into a decision whenever you guys were doing >> honestly a lot of like the mission um and then just like the focus like where do we want to focus where do we want to see ourselves in five years like what do we want to see done um and then just what are you going to do kind of like an evaluation what are you going to do to meet that goal um step by step planning and then you know that way you can mark it off like this is where we're at this is our next and until you meet that final I mean it doesn't have to be five years I mean a strategic plan could be seven years I

066guess it depends on us like this is our strategic plan and we want to meet all these goals within this frame or this time period and kind of work off of there >> I want to say that the ones I've seen previously are three years that >> I mean I want to say it like boardwise the ones I've seen because there was >> correct >> I know like in like >> 15 years. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like this is kind of >> a long time. That's why it's taking us a long time. Sorry guys, we just have like we don't have anything to base it on. So, do you see it realistic that we could be done in two days like to go over it within two days? >> I guess that kind

067of just depends on us how particular we're going to be, >> how much coffee we have. And I think also part of this is not necessarily like creating the ex exact strategic plan. Like >> I think whenever I at least told our the idea, it was more about coming together getting our plan together to then create that strategic plan with others in mind because >> I'm going to say I don't think he would recommend. I talked to him the longest because it was very much more of a creative process for him. When I called CES, it was very much like we do these all the time. Here's exactly what we do every single time. Here's the amount of money that it'll cost you because they all are pretty much the same. that that piece I

068think is super important that we can create this but if we don't know what those parents who have students in school right now from all different demographics all different places have a piece of that the plan is great but we don't end up following it whenever there's no buyin from staff as well so just I I do believe that if we do one like the entirety that we need to include those people >> yeah well and the CES one has the community needs assessment which I think is a huge piece of that. Can we ask the David if like if he would entitle those pieces that were missing from his like before coming into a decision? >> I can call him. Yes. >> I mean I just what if they what if he does has

069a he's okay with adding those? What if I could have any of them come through Zoom on the next meeting and >> you could ask them questions and talk to them and give them how long would you like each of them to have if they're willing to >> 6.5 minutes >> six minutes I'm totally kidding. Okay. She's with kids. >> So, somebody will just have the table. >> Yeah, I know that. Yeah. somebody. So if somebody wants >> um item >> item uh 6A, discussion and approval of schoolboard team building and strategic plan. >> I move we table the approval of schoolboard team building and strategic plan. >> Okay, we have a motion on the floor. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Okay, all in favor? I >> it has been tabled.

070We will um come back with some hopefully maybe some of them can zoom in and give us a little bit more detail. >> Okay. Um item 6B, approval of substitute pay. >> So you have in front of you pay rate change that I am currently proposing. All it does is change long-term days from 20 days to 10 days. and you'll see that in red um under the substitute piece of that. So, I'm recommending that you would pass that um number of days to 10 days. That way, we're uh the same as the the two districts that are closest to us. >> I have a question, Miss Pierce. Um and I don't know, I don't even know if it pertains because I know at one point we maybe saw that it would affect like insurance. it

071will they will have to deny insurance as well as um the district will have to pay into ERB and so will they um at 10 days. However, I do think based upon the fact that if we're going to match what those others do um we probably need to be similar to the two districts by us. So, um, whenever they do get to the 10day point, Nancy provides them, um, they can opt out of insurance and they just sign saying that that we don't want to take insurance, but the ERB is there and the district has to pay in their portion as well as the the staff member as well substitute has to pay in there. >> So, have we talked to any of the substitutes to see if that would be >> I did not.

072I did all my research in terms of the two districts. So previously had talked at a convention with other superintendents, but they weren't the two closest to us. And so whenever those two substitutes or those two superintendents, this is what they did. We match them in pay. And so it really just comes down to where do we, you know, are we losing our substitutes to them? I think um possibly because the fact of 10 days so to match those. >> So currently it kick the ERV kicks in at 20 days. >> It does. And have they been okay with that? I'm just thinking in terms of um their money now. >> I mean, do they you know what I mean? >> Do they want to pay into it? I don't want to pay into it

073either. >> Like as a teacher, I'm not always fond of the fact that they get to tell me how much and where I get to put my money. Um, and so I mean I don't know that that's will it they will still receive a it's not going to go down based upon going to 10 days because the pay increase is more than that. the district pays in a larger portion than >> right. So if I remember correctly, we had a meeting uh was it last meeting or couple meetings ago that uh we were discussing drop going from 20 or 24 days to 16 >> to 16 and then >> we'll just go to 10 to match the significance. I think my only concern would be that for them um would be yes, it's going down

074to 10 to where they're going to get the higher rate, but are they really getting a higher rate because now they're going into ERB versus buying themselves another 10 days, >> right? Does that make sense? So, I mean, >> with neighboring districts being at that rate, I guess it doesn't really >> Are we losing a lot of subs to neighboring districts because of this um 10 20 day I don't. So here the thing is is when a sub the other part that might be losing is that we have four day a week versus five days a week, right? >> So in terms of them being able to make money, >> they can make money on five days in one week in the neighboring district here. Neighboring district here is four days. Um, we have two

075subs that I know are currently working in Rosel. Um, after we've made phone calls, those are the only two. We did lose one of our subs who is now a teacher in Rosle. Um, he received a degree. We didn't have an opening for him and so he went to to be there. In terms of substitutes, I don't see us losing subs to either one of them really. A lot of our subs have children who are going to school here. They do it because they want to be here with their kids. Like it's somewhat of a favor to us. They they really are every day, you know, choosing a lot of them. It's not about the money. It's more about being here. Um but this is just the information that I gathered. So was the the

07610 days was for them. And so that would currently what is ERB? Um, let me look at the last because I provided all that information at the last meeting. >> It's going to be like a 24. >> It's going to be >> like a 24. I think >> you think at 24 days. >> Yeah, that number sounds familiar. >> Oh, yeah. Because we Well, they were at 20. I think we were trying to go to 16. or >> Yes, >> just because we were thinking of the four the four day. Yeah. >> How how many long-term subs do we have? Do we have? >> So, um currently we have one. Um, this school district started out with a bang. We had three at the elementary school in which all teachers are currently back in their

077positions. Um, so we're currently have one at the high school. >> Sounds great. >> So, how often does it reset if >> if you're out if you're out there for seven days and then you don't have you don't sub for three, does that reset or what? >> It resets after any day any time. So longterm is in the same well it's in the same position. >> So if you subbed in a kinder class today and then you served five days in a middle school classroom and then two days that's not considered long term. Longterm is in the same classroom same position um for multiple days because if you're subbing for one or two days the expectation and as we go forward for that classroom teacher is to provide all of the information to those teachers.

078When we have a long-term sub, most of the time those are having to make copies, make some kinds of plans. They're on morning, afternoon, lunch, recess duty, those type of things continue. Not to say that our short-term subs aren't doing some of those things if that hap the teacher happens to put it on there. However, that long-term sub, the reason that it typically is paid more is because there's some extra duties assigned with that whenever you've been there for a longer period. And when do you typically see the sub have to actually come up with lesson plans and all that? Is it use is that usually after 10 days after 15 days? >> I would like to say that it never is the same >> and it all is based upon the teacher's position. Is

079it an open position? >> Yeah. Is it an open position that the person next to you also teaches English and so we can kind of like buddy up and make this happen or we both teach third grade? Um, is this position something that we don't have another teacher doing? So, they're having to find stuff, complete that work. Um, was this unexpected? Because a lot of the times if it's unexpected that a teacher is not going to be there, then they are having to come up with that. Uh, I can tell you a lot of our elementary teachers who were out on leave probably left enough for them to do for 6 months. They may have had to make copies. However, the teacher, you know, provided a lot of information because of that's how they work.

080But good substitutes are then like, "Oh, they didn't understand this lesson. So now we're having to do some small group and they're pull, hey, do you have any extra supplemental material that goes with that?" So to say that they're not doing any of that between one and 10 days is probably not true. However, we have to put a mark on it somewhere. >> Yeah. >> And at some point, they have to have that date of, okay, I'm now considered long-term, >> you know, >> because was there a was there another mark between >> there was there was a three-day mark. However, in reality, that did say longterm on it, and we could have considered that to be when they had to pay into ERB. There was just a payment increase. And this way we're just

081cutting that middle piece that the three-day mark is really hard to calculate whenever you have subs in the buildings every single day. So somebody could be out for three days now. I mean that's pretty typical but a lot of the times any more than three days becomes less typical when we have those numbers. So the last trying to think of where that page was that I provided all that information. >> Yeah. So, so the ERB the Dexter's portion is 18.15% and the subs portion is 7.9. >> Yes. >> 7.9. If if the substitute ever takes out their portion before they're technically can even full retirement, our portion will stay in ERB. That is the reason that Hobbes and Artisia both choose to go from 30 and 40 days. >> What do they do? >> It

082goes in for anyone else who's in the system that it's so it those of you who are on ERB. It's the same way for us as employees. If something was to happen to us before we actually take retirement, our families only get the part portion that we paid in. they do not get the district's portion. >> So, I mean, do we want people to retire? We do not. However, for their own personal benefit, the day they can do it is probably worth for their families to do it because if not, you could be losing quite a I mean, look at the portion for substitutes. 18% the district pays in where the sub only pays 7%. >> I mean, I see it as a benefit to have it at 10 versus >> Oh, for sure. I

083mean at that point >> for sure >> you know what I mean for the future short term maybe not so much but >> well 10 days is better than 20 and we get input what are you guys thinking I mean I would be fine with the 10 But I don't know how they feel about I mean having to put into the you know what I mean? That's that's my thing is I would like to know from them but I don't know >> I think you will have mixed answers. right decision. >> I mean, as she's saying, she already has our local schools around us and they're doing this. >> It's cost effective to the school, right? >> Yeah. If we put it off after night, I mean, it's a whole other month again. Well, I

084mean it's beneficial for them, but then at the same time it could not be. Does that make sense? It really is not beneficial to the district if that's where the district is not. >> Yeah, we're taking a big spike there >> because if you look at that I think we had it up the if the rate was 155 I mean you end up paying 198 >> time everything calculate that. So do the one what is what do they get 115 at longterm what's their rate just go what's their rate at longterm was it 155 or one >> so we calculate by the hour. >> So, if they slept for a full day uh regular >> versus uh long-term sub minus the ERB, where where do they end up with? Okay, >> I guess is my

085question. >> Yeah. Okay. The sub rate is 16 an hour >> for that's before long term. >> Before long term and then Yeah. >> Because how many what do what are the typical hours? >> 7.75. >> It says right here Dexter current daily rate is 133 and 15 >> too. I think it >> I guess what constitutes a day versus like so like let's say a sub comes in is there is it's 7.75 hours is that's including a prep, right? Like if they're at high school like that. So then that would be a date. >> Yes. So and not to say that a lot of the times if we have another sub out and we're prepping everybody else out to go take that sub, they're utilized during that prep time. Now, not the same in

086terms of long-term, but we do utilize our teachers if we have to. They'll be making maybe $9.75 extra at longterm by the time they go from regular. And I'm I'm going based off of these numbers, the 133 daily rate and then the 155 for long-term. But I don't think it's 133. I think it's 124. >> Yeah. I don't know. Now >> 16 16 * 7.75 is 124. I don't know >> because I had to have done the math. >> Oh, that's for other districts. >> Yeah. >> Is 133 and 155. >> But the sub but the sub rate I'm looking at says 16 per hour which totals 124 at the 7.75. And then what is the hourly for long-term >> 20? And so that totals 155 a day >> minus the 8. >> So the

087appointment >> the issue with the other is I utilized how much it cost the district and not that's where the math went wrong on the 133. It should be 124. >> Gotcha. Yeah. If we just do fly without what it's costing the district just what their their big number is versus [Music] >> what is 7.8 >> $1875. They'll make $18.75 extra approximately a day at long-term sub versus um regular >> which is in any other work that's basically an hour. >> Yeah. So sub rate for 16 for below long term before longterm excuse me is 124 and 20 once it goes up to 10 days plus is 155 minus the ERB for a grand total of >> 42 >> and you just took 7% of 155 >> 7.9 >> 14275 >> then you have the

08814275us 125. >> So before long-term rate is 124 a day.
