Good evening. It is 6:00 and all board members are present. I'm going to go ahead and call this meeting to order. It is the practice of our Board of Education to begin our meetings with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. We about invite you to bow your heads in prayer and stand to join us in the pledge if you so choose. >> Lord, we respectfully ask for your guidance and wisdom as we proceed with the business before us. Keep us mindful of our purpose of providing a quality education for the students attending Taylor County schools. Amen. >> Dr. Shelley, do we have any adjustments or addendums to the agenda? >> No, Ms. Garvin, we do not. >> Outstanding. Superintendent respectfully requests approval of the agenda as presented. >> Moved. >> Mrs. Gallo moves. >> Second.

>> Mr. Summers seconds. All those in favor? I. Opposed? Motion passes. Moves us directly into the 1000 series information and the superintendent's update. >> Good evening. I have provided a copy of information that is indicative of some things that have taken place in the short window since our last meeting. If you will notice that we have learned that our middle school golf team recently complete meeting its season with a 21, excuse me, 22-4 record. And they also took took on and won the 17-17 team end-of-season tournament that took place recently. Like those other accomplishments, we most of those were to congratulate both the students and Mr. Devert, who is their current coach. As you recall, we introduced the middle school golf team just more recently since I came on board. Uh we'll be trying to

get them to join us on the 9th of June to recognize that accomplishment as well. With regard to Anna Jarvis, if you uh have noticed, they are starting to uh apply the brick to the back of the building. It's more of the looks like wainscoting at this point, the lower section. It is going over top of the what ever popular bright turquoise paint that was used as a sealant. Uh that it will have mixed reviews. Some people really like it and they'll probably be disappointed it's not visible after they brick the building. Uh some of the students were reporting really excited. They like that color, but that's not to happen. Second floor of the west wing or most of the two-story of the classroom is still under construction with the roof being affixed soon. Plans

are being made for the main driveway to eventually, this is a heads-up everybody, after the school year closes, uh the construction will continue with uh addressing the uh recent concerns about potholes. They're going to be removing the remain whatever is left of the currently destroying uh macadam that's there as a driveway so they can do crush and run during that portion because it'll become more and more difficult to maintain it when they start removing the back built the rear the current building. That was the information shared just recently as a part of the construction process. We just need to be patient about that. I've been told you have to tear it up to fix it up, so that's what we're doing right now. Flemington Elementary School uh is they are just now starting the bidding

or excuse me, the previously approved bid to uh address the much-needed HVAC project. Plans for work on the concession stand also include what I believe to be plans to add the restroom to that location. And it It my understanding that they're utilizing the funding the remainder of the funding that the board uh offered them last year. Uh and that's what's happening there. Grafton High School is uh I would encourage you to continue referring to that multi-color blue and gold schedule for this month, a very active month for the high school. Um And speaking of active, it's my understanding that last night's senior prank caught a lot of attention. And they are now inviting the some of the students that got a little bit enthusiastic to come back and help clean it up in in advance

of commencement. Um we'll see where that goes. Um There's a reminder also that the in the Mary Battle Studios where we should be at 6:30 on the 29th for its commencement. And then we wait for the results of the anticipated West Virginia School Building Authority's decision typically coming to us in in June. Remind regarding their support of a request to obtain funding to help us do the HVAC project at that location. Trans- new transportation building as you can see, phase two is underway. Um lastly, there's Memorial Day weekend reminders. The Sunday event, 1:00 Pruntytown National Cemetery, Monday parade 10:00. Please know that the road called Riverside Drive and Yates Avenue, whichever you prefer to call it. That's one road. It That road on both ends at Route 50 and by the Exxon station will close

at as indicated, it closes at 8:30. Um Likewise, the parade route, if you're not going to be over in that area and you're planning to be a a part of the or watching the parade, you cannot get downtown or through Grafton after 9:00. They will close the road. And lastly, the Monday ceremony after the Memorial Day parade is also scheduled. The one at Walnut Street is at 1:00. I've also affixed the information received regarding May's updates from the Taylor County Middle School. We're talking about the the distribution of students and their performance on their uh their data. And that's delineated by grade level as well. In addition, I will distribute something that many of you I know you know about this, but just as a reminder, I'm providing each of you a copy of the

excess levy that was voted on so that in case someone asks you, is there some category you can have that as a quick reference. I hope that's helpful. >> There's five there. >> There you go. And with regard to updates, Ms. Garvin and the rest of the board, that is a brief overview of my updates for this week. Thank you. >> Thank you. Um I have a question that I would I don't need immediate clarification on, but when we move to crush and run at the new Anna Jarvis, um how is do we anticipate that that will be paved before need of plowing? And if not what is the plan? Plow versus crush and run? >> Indeed, they said that they would have that um before those that weather changes, they would have that addressed.

It will not be completely paved and finished because um it there will still be the removal of that back building. Um could compromise that. So, they'll put something down that would be significant enough to accommodate plowing while not finishing the final paving. >> Okay. I just want to make sure we weren't setting ourselves up for an >> Uh-oh. >> Right. >> Thank you. >> That very question was posed at the meeting. >> Does anyone else have any questions about superintendent's updates? >> Um yeah. I'm just looking at this information from the data and I it does concern me a little bit here with the one grade level below for fifth grade math looks like that was unchanged. Um not much difference um for sixth grade with reading one grade level below. Um reading again for

seventh grade. Eighth grade reading one grade level below. Not much difference there either from beginning of the year to the end of the year. Um as well as math. I'm just just noticed those right off. Um I will be interested to hear what kind of interventions or plans we have for the upcoming school year to help improve these scores for our middle school. >> Certainly. I can investigate that for you. >> These are these are all steps though, right? Like maybe maybe the number didn't change, but the number that was two grades level below is now lower. So, some of those kids moved from one grade level up and some of the kids moved from two grade levels below into one grade level. Is that Is that how this data is designed to read? >>

Because it doesn't indicate which students are which. It You're correct in that those that movement. There's a chart that indicating right at the bottom of that on page two three that represents the typical growth percentages. Um and their goal part of the goal for each building principle is to identify the a minimum percentage of growth over the course of the year. I can still have them come speak to that and we can pose those traditional questions we do when we visit schools. >> I think yeah just a little more like a reminder of the clarification of how this data reads and what that means would be um helpful. >> Very good. Also at the bottom of their last page it indicates the their remaining schedule for this month. One of which you are familiar because

it happened last night. >> Yes. All right. Um board member updates or board committee meeting reports. Hearing none we'll move into the 2000 series. Uh superintendent respectfully request approval of the minutes from the regular meeting of May 13th, 2026. >> So moved. >> Mr. Taylor moves. >> Second. >> Mrs. Gallo seconds. Any questions, comments, concerns? Hearing none all those in favor? I opposed? Motion passes. Brings us to a series of policies and codes in the first reading which no official action needs to be taken on although questions can be posed. A single policy in the second reading again no official action tonight questions available or optional. And then down into the contract section. Superintendent respectfully request approval of items 2284 and 2285 in the 2000 series. I will move. Do I have a second? >>

Mr. Taylor seconds. Questions, comments, concerns? All those in favor? I. Opposed? Motion passes. Moving us into the 3000 series consent calendar. We've got some instructional materials adoption, some purchase orders, facility use, out of county travel. Superintendent respectfully requests approval of items 3196 through 3207 in the 3000 series. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Gallo moves. >> Second. >> Mr. Summers seconds. Questions, comments, concerns? >> Yeah, just a comment. Um, I see a lot of usage, um, of our facilities, and I think that's great for our our kids and our community. I just want to make sure that with scheduling, um, >> [snorts] >> as far as our sports and activities that are related to school are not impacted by that. >> That's the indication the principal has, uh, approved means that the AD and the principal have

been informed informed of that, and that's how we learned that they have worked with the schedule to accommodate. >> Okay. Any additional questions? Hearing none, there's an open motion on the floor. All those in favor? >> I. Opposed? Motion passes. Moving us into the 4000 series financial. The 2026-27 final budget, salaries and supplement books, and vouchers payable. Mr. Dolan, tell us some things. >> So, inside your, uh, package you should have received a, uh, a condensed version of what was previously presented. Uh, tried to condense it down so it didn't take up 47 pages again. Put it into salaries and benefits, but it overall was just you know a final version of you know what our budget proposed budget will be for next year. With our total revenue for next year being 41 million 353

015556. Like I said that's dispersed over all the various funds that we have for the county. So upon your approval that will be what is submitted to the state here in the coming days. For next year's budget. The next set of documents you have is the salary and supplement book that was presented. There were a few corrections in that that were brought to our attention. So we made those corrections and all the salaries and supplements are correct at this time. Does anyone have any questions about the budget or the salary supplement book? Okay. The next part of your packet is um >> [clears throat] >> our standard vouchers payable bills that we have to pay for from week to week. The first three pages are the schedule of checks that have already been written since

the last meeting totaling a little over 54,000 dollars. Those were for contract payments for various student services and other services that were completed throughout the county. After that there's three pages of checks to be written upon your approval for tonight. Some of those items include maintenance supplies. Technology supplies for student iPads, classroom supplies, and then registration fees for for some conferences that were attended. Does anybody have any questions regarding the vouchers payable? >> Okay. >> All right. Thank you very much, Mr. Dolan. >> You're welcome. >> And this condensed format is much easier to read. Thank you. Um Superintendent respectfully requests approval of items in the 4000 series. >> So moved. >> Mr. Taylor moves. Mr. Summers seconds. Questions, comments, concerns? Hearing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Motion passes. Moving us into the

0175000 series, student matters, personnel and legal matters. We've got some hiring, some transfers, some extra duties, Summers resignation. Um All right. Superintendent respectfully requests approval of items 5557 through 5572 in the 5000 series. >> Moved. >> Mrs. Gallo moves. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Mr. Taylor seconds. Questions, comments, concerns? All those in favor? I. Opposed? Motion passes. Moving us into the 8000 series, board member discussions and comments. I And the first item is a discussion of school safety, specifically parent and staff concerns from Anna Jarvis. All right. >> The uh booklet that you or the folder you received was is a compilation of the things that were requested for discussion purposes and or for discussion purposes and to better clarify what is being discussed with some examples. Um I don't know how

you would prefer that we approach that. >> So there appear to be a number of things and sort of the overall safety and protocol for our students um feels to me like it is the center of those moments. So I don't know if we are lacking a level of clear communication as to if A then B if AB then C or if we're using a lot of industry standard jargon that doesn't translate to parent like when we say things like the stakeholders affected will be blah blah blah blah that doesn't tell a parent this is what happens. When a parent comes in with a concern what kind of response are they getting? Is it communicative? Is it clear? Is it timely? I From the information that has come to me that appears to be a

place we need to start. I don't know how to facilitate that from here so I don't know what anybody else has heard. I know the we have had some Uh what was the word? Transition incidents. Um we have had some some discipline incidents, some behavior incidents, some uh re-regulating. I I don't know where to start with that. So, can somebody fill us in on where we're at and where we're going and how we're communicating so we can figure out which piece to pick first. >> Okay. Um I'll give it a stab. How about this? I think toward Actually, it's toward the Well, where was I? There should be Let me start with some narrative and then we can actually demonstrate what I have prepared for you to talk about that. I was in receipt of

a letter from the staff faculty and staff at Anna Jarvis with some very concerning issues. Um and I immediately responded by uh faci- hosting or calling people to a meeting that we had last Wednesday. Uh and the intent of that meeting was to um Oh. That's why I can't find it. I said the wrong folder. was to bring together the the faculty and staff and afford them an opportunity to uh brainstorm and share issues and concerns. We did just that on uh Wednesday of last week, in fact. And um Well, I'm not able to find that letter right now, that example. The information that was gathered there are minutes that were taken by Ms. by Mrs. McCarthy who accompanied me to that meeting. I found it to be in my opinion productive in the fact

that uh the faculty and staff were put in a situation where we all agreed to just brainstorm. The concerns that were raised were many. I read the letter and then I highlighted the things that seemed to bubble to the top as the primary concerns in that letter. And then they were afforded an opportunity to actually identify initially uh what their primary which one of those was the most burning issue for them. Uh and there were many. So, there wasn't one that seemed to all seemed to be of of like ilk. Uh like when with the discussion was started um people did start contributing to brainstorming to the point where I was able to then eventually fall back fall back and afford them an opportunity to talk amongst themselves. The intent of that was to then

bring that information to the principal's attention. Um it was recommended that initially with the if I did that without the principal, they would be more willing to contribute. I found that to be the case. I did request of the principal that she stay out of the conversation or the meeting uh to accommodate and hopefully get more contributions. Um the information that I did receive are some multiple pages. Uh that should look like this. I don't know if you see that. It looks The purple folder ended up being significantly more pieces that I had prepared for tonight and I just had to I prepared that for you for this evening's meeting. Um I apologize. I don't know that that is in here. Yeah, if you would, please. Thank you. Yes, we have it. Thank you. I

couldn't remember where it was. Oh, thank you, Ms. Ms. Gallo. Your last minute request last night kind of took precedence over top of that. That's my fault. Uh I will own that. Anyway, as you can see, we found there were a primary areas of concern that were identified. Student safe student and staff safety, discipline follow-through, communication, documentation, behavior support systems, staffing and resources, instructional impact, consistency in systems. Uh one of the biggest things that seemed to happen was that the if and when things are happening, communication is is one of the things that is breaking down at the school. Uh one of the other concerns and is that uh from a safety standpoint, um what are we doing with the children? How we respond to them. In one instance, you'll hear that um a reset

room is has been engaged. Uh that that is we have investigated that from the state level as well. Um that is not seen as the most appropriate way of responding to students who are in crisis. Uh one of the concerns that was raised, in addition to that statement I just made, is the location of it, if in fact that it is appropriate time where someone needs to to uh de-escalate, our behavior specialist uh works with them, but uh we're currently I I'm in conversation with the building principal and uh they believe their leadership team meeting tried to address that this evening with regard to finding a a more appropriate location so that the students are afforded an opportunity to de-escalate, get away from whatever the stressor has prompted, whatever the antecedent cause as opposed to

and there's those photographs I showed you that you'd requested indicate that uh what is called the reset room. Uh that is being addressed and will continue to be uh a more appropriate a way to respond to those students uh is being sought. Uh that is not resolved. Um I believe it was attempted tonight, but I understand from a couple parties after that meeting just this evening that uh that although it was brought up, was not resolved. Uh and I'll be revisiting that with the principal and the person that and the leadership team to see what alternatives we have. Um knee-jerk, I don't know that that's appropriate either uh and it certainly hasn't proved itself. Although the state indicates it can be used on occasion, it should not be used uh with regularity. Uh we'll be

addressing that and revisiting that. Um With regard to the other areas of of issues, communication seemed to be one that was the most initially became one of the issues of concern in that uh what most of us, myself included, believed to be information that had been shared there were many people that said they hadn't heard of that, they didn't know of that. Um misinformation in fact had been given regarding how to deal with our students. Uh, I referred the staff that were present uh, encouraging them to refer to both policy 4373 and Senate Bill 199. Which and I attempted I believe I cleared up that there is no such thing as you cannot suspend certain student at certain ages. It just expects that there be certain criteria that are followed prior to ever getting there.

Um, we also have the the issue of remembering if the student has special needs. He or she needs to first go through what would be considered a manifestation hearing to determine if the disability that they are dealing with uh, if there's an access between or connection between their disability and their ability to uh, behave in certain ways. And so that throws you into different response mechanisms about if they're protected by if they're protected by uh, the 2419 which is the special education law. Um, but and I think we made some inroads about that as well. Um, information was shared it's my understanding that information was then distributed to the staff and then I encouraged them encouraged each of them to uh, as one of the things as a follow up to our meeting is to

go back to those policies and revisit them. Uh, policy Senate Bill 199 actually gives scenarios that one can ex- consider and then they're seemingly applicable to a if there's a child in crisis. Um, we have much much to do at Anna at in that regard and uh, it is becoming more stressful and more stressful to both students and staff. More conversation will be had with that with the administrator. That's the plan. Um even tonight there was a somewhat of a disagreement that I will be facilitating to at least get that taken care of so that people can come to the table without an axe to grind. That's what we've done so far, but a lot of the other things are if I mentioned 4373, it you know, that you have those different levels when we've

done expulsions. Uh there's a page 11 early in the document. You have a copy of that. If you'll reference page 11 real quickly, um it gives you a delineation of first steps to be taken. Um it references the uh expectation of what you should do before you jump to the more severe consequence for the student. Uh and unfortunately, that is what we have to do. And get that's what we're utilizing your behavior specialist that you hired through Senate Bill 199. And both of those documents reference those expectations. Um that's a hard pill to swallow when you're in a classroom and you're the teacher and you have a kid who is a young man or lady who is uh in crisis mode. But the expectation is as as is delineated in there that creating uh a

behavior plan that's to be implemented and attempted collaboratively through uh the behavioral specialist and the classroom teacher. And the hardest part of that to deal with is the fact that um there's a 2-week window. And then you go back and see if it's working, and you continue if it's working, and if it's not working, you revisit. That's I'm I'm paraphrasing poorly. But that's if you read that one page that's on that, it helps delineate the expectations. Um there was, I believe, a misinterpretation of both policies, 43 and 73, 4373 and Senate Bill 199, that indicates the kid that kid's out of here, never to come back. And I'm not saying people are saying that to me, but the the intent of that policy is to give you options for dealing with the misbehaviors, depending on

the individual student's circumstances. The remainder of that policy, 43, is what you're used to seeing at expulsion hearings. Um Senate Bill 199 is the more recent one. That's That's how we got the behavioral specialist. Uh and even in our meeting, it was questioned about, "Well, you took We took the dean away." The dean was replaced with a behavioral specialist because that particular policy is silent of that and speaks specifically to the behavioral specialist, which we do have, and brought to the to replace that other position. Um Questions? I don't know where to go next. >> Yes, I'll go ahead. >> I'll go ahead. >> Go ahead. I'm at a loss as to where to start. Uh we got letters from faculty, we got delegations, we've got resignations. Uh From top to bottom, the administration has

dropped the ball. And there needs to be some drastic steps taken as quickly as can be, and I I'm I'm glad you're approaching it at that point, but uh I couldn't be more disappointed in our school system right now. I could not be. Uh we've had people actually according to some of the letters invite staff to re- resign and find other jobs. That's inappropriate. Totally inappropriate. Shouldn't have happened. We've had resignations because of lack of support. We've had people told in IEP meetings that we can't find additional adult supervision for kids. Somewhere along the line, something needs to be done. And I'd say sooner rather than later. Uh I hope that aggressive steps are going to be taken as quickly as possible with no hesitation. I I can't understand myself why we don't have an

alternative learning system center at the elementary level. I've been told that the faculty has been told they're not ready for that. But it seems to me like we're more than ready for that. That something needs to be done, and I think that's one step that could and should be done. That's my opinion, but I I don't I don't know what else to say, but I am woefully disappointed in our school system right now. >> Thank you. >> So, we hired a behavioral interventionist, but that individual was to be utilized where needed. Correct? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. And so we have someone there, we have administrators, we have people trained, and we're still having these issues at this level. That's That's what concerns me. Also, um hearing about this reset room, it is heart-wrenching to

me what I'm hearing. And you know, and and the location of it, that that's that's got to get moved. Um from my understanding, it's next to uh the therapy room. And just speaking from a professional level in healthcare, when someone is doing therapy, that like that has to have total dedication and attention to that therapy to help that student. And that needs to be in a safe environment and not something that's going to upset them. So, like that's that's got to get addressed like ASAP. And then the number of frequency, I mean, to my understanding, that room is to be used prior to becoming at a level of escalation. But it doesn't sound like that's what's happening. So, that that concerns me. >> I I don't want to say I'm on it. That sounds I

I've started looking at that. I've actually started walking through the building to find locations that might be better alternatives at all. Uh Um I the reset room is a new concept to me as well when it was introduced. Um I I don't know but where uh or how but I as soon as we I started learning of that and I started looking and I made some recommendations to the building principal. Um My last conversation with her was it included those suggested areas. Uh I've been assured that that is being considered. I will continue to look into that. That has not been finalized. Uh my last conversation with her uh addressed that very concern as well. >> A- And And also wanted to add just the concern for the students that are in that room. And

clarification, how long are they to be in that room? And then like is the parent being contacted? Um just like what's that process? >> Right. That whole process is once there's an issue becomes an becomes one or there are two ta- two paths that are taken supposed to be taken. First of all, figure out what the antecedent was and then trying to address that in a de- de-escalation manner. And then parents are to be contacted. Uh and that is also uh supposed to be entered into uh the Weevis the West Virginia education information system called Weevis uh recording. Um There are not There are a lot of pieces and steps that are not being taken um about which I'm now learning or have been has been brought to my attention through the effort of the

teachers and the letters. I've not been privy to all the communication you've gotten, but I did I did want to and I'm not saying, you know, look at me, but I my response was as I heard about it on I can't remember if it was Monday or Tuesday of last week and I immediately called for that meeting so I can get the conversation started with to include the voice of the faculty. I don't know that it was completely successful because as we talked it was not an end-all to the issue, but it started the brainstorming process. Um I want to reassure you that as I learned of it, I jumped on it. Uh and maybe not quick enough for some people because uh because they wanted something done sooner. Uh but as I'm looking at

each of the issues, I'm addressing it with recommendations. Um Indeed, if it's falling short, uh I would have to agree. I'm not going to argue that point. If it's falling short, it needs more attention. As I indicated a second ago, that meeting was the first of what I told the people would should be more than should be many. Um We've gotten to a point where uh classmates are injuring one another. I've learned of that. Uh we've addressed some of the issues uh and still had to tighten things even further. Um Trying to stay within the confines of the protections of the any student that was maybe I'm not excusing it. I'm not finding reason to not address it. I'm just trying to acknowledge the fact that um some of those limitations are unacceptable. There is

no acceptable misbehavior. Uh but it depends on the And when that happens, we are trying to figure out how to best address it according to the student involved. I do take the like you I take the safety of our students and staff seriously. >> Did you >> I Thank you for putting that together and and and I appreciate concerns of everybody involved. Um maybe you said it or some of the meetings do we have any parents involved yet? Uh and and and by parents I mean do we have plans to include some maybe parents that have close attachment to the situation but also maybe parents that don't have close attachment or maybe have students >> Well the concept of a round table was something I have in mind. I have not been able to initiate

that. It was just Wednesday that I had the meeting with the other a week ago today. I know that sounds like it's been a week what he had been doing. Um that's a great question. Um there are plans that I've initiated or discussions about such things as that that have been started. They have not been scheduled yet. Uh both and I think we mentioned training we did at that meeting. I don't know if we did tonight. I don't remember. But training of different individuals, finding more opportunities for training of a crisis response team retraining those that may have been as well as bringing more people into training so that there could be a broader scope at the school. Um Did we answer your question, Mr. Summers? Thank you. Um by all means uh and I

do want to mention something about our parents. Uh in many cases but sometimes there are things that happen behind the scenes that about which we are not at liberty to share with them. Uh I too would be disgruntled and pretty upset if it were my child who were the victim of another student's misbehavior. I'll just use that broad term. Uh and in some cases people are insistent to the point of being demanding of what the What did you do to the kid? And I'm not at liberty to talk I just want to I try to reassure them that things are being done. Those are the behind-the-scenes things that happen on occasion or should be happening all the time, actually. Um I'm doing that as well. I I receive phone calls as well here at the

office. Um and try to explain what is being done short of telling having a parent of the victim child tell me the degree of punishment that needs to occur or consequence. I don't like to use the word punishment, but consequence. Um I hope that helps with your question. >> Thank you. >> Mr. Dowdy? >> I appreciate um what you're saying will be done. Um the communication with the parents um has to happen. Um there there is one email that just sticks out um to me that they were met with silence and >> For me? >> no communication whatsoever um regarding an incident and they had to reach out multiple times and we can't we can't move forward like that in the future. >> I agree. >> Yeah, and and I know that eventually there was

some communication, but it's the you know, the lapse and the the waiting and the worrying and and all of that. Um As Mr. Taylor said, we've lost teachers. We had We had resignations tonight. I asked the I posed the question a couple weeks ago, "Why are we losing kids in this county?" We're losing kids in this county. We need all hands on deck to fix this. If we have to roll up our sleeves at the administrative office and help out, then it's going to take everybody to fix this. >> And if I I don't want to interrupt. If I If I may I I agree. And I We do have To reassure, we do have staff from the central office that have been trying to help with some of those things as well. Um conversations

about better training, uh I don't know about the response to the parents. I can assure you that when I get a note from someone calling if I wasn't available and a note was taken by my secretary, I I I try to make a practice of not I don't ignore those. I try to get back with them. In many cases, uh I have to leave I might take it multiple times because I'm not I'm not getting through. Uh but I don't I learned a long time ago it's not wise not to call them. Even if you are anticipating having a major dipping and spitting opportunity with them, because they need to be heard and I try to practice that. Um if it's happening at the school level, I will certainly be addressing that. It's been brought

to my attention as well, those conversations, those hard conversations that you're referencing, all of the board members are alluding to in some cases are happening, should happen more frequently as I hear about things, and I will continue to do that. But your point of the parents need to be heard is is or multiple people's comment is no less valuable. I'm not just trying to talk it away. I'm just trying to I'm that I'm trying to get on it when I learn of it. And I do believe I'm making some inroads on a on a more positive note. I feel like I need to throw a little piece of piece of positive in there. Uh the fact that this faculty and staff stayed for a long time uh the other day um was very much appreciated

by me. I don't want to if I say surprised me I I risk insulting them. But I do appreciate the fact that there were a lot of people that stayed and uh did some helpful brainstorming even to the point of one suggesting and the other cautioning how's that going to work and etc. Uh We're not done. And we do have an issue. And it's going to take some it takes a little time to turn things around. And I'm not being dismissive when I say that. Uh We're I I am trying to become more involved with that, too. Uh Initially you try to stay back so you're not dictating to the administration. Um I think that's that is changing. Um Maybe not as quickly as everyone would like. But it's on it's on the radar. >>

We seem to have had a number of classroom changes this year in terms of now we're evacuating a classroom for a student instead of the student being removed. Um, where that fits in the psychology a little bit outside my wheelhouse. My question is if that's going to be the practice how do we communicate that clearly, efficiently, and with some modicum of support to parents? Because the first time my kid came home and said, "My We ended up in the hallway today." I was like, "Shkabosh?" Because that to me as a parent makes zero sense. >> Right. >> So, how do we explain that? Like and how do we justify your kids are in the hall for 20 minutes for their safety while this happens because not only does the incident have to complete then there

has to be a a physical reset of the room and what's happening in that 20 minutes? Why Why is one versus 22? Where does that play out? In English. Not in legal, not in policy, not in legislative, not in 98 pages to say but in a very clear this is what they're saying we have to do. Um, and I think if that information goes home in the here's how you do your absent note and here's how you say we've got a medication moment that helps parents understand what's happening. Um because No, some of this doesn't make sense. >> Totally agree. In fact, um um it when I'm asked that similar question, it was shared with me that from a behavioral standpoint, uh I'm not saying I agree, I'm just trying to tell you what I

was told, that procedurally it's best to remove the students for their safety initially so that that student can >> I just don't want us to have a bunch of secondary 3:00 at the bike rack moments. Where parent A finds out that child B, and then parent A and parent B have a moment, right? I don't want that. Because without the school saying, "We understand that this is a policy and this is how it's going to go." the parents don't get it. My Sorry. My other question would be, is this standard at the elementary level? At elementary and middle? At all programmatic levels? Is that this school is interpreting it this way? >> The process to respond to circumstance that we I was going to say protocol, but you want me to stay away from that.

So, the process, um I will admit to have been surprised by the explanation I was given. So, what you're asking for makes sense, and that is just an explanation of the process to be used or the procedure that should become should be revisited to determine that's the most appropriate way to do it. Uh that was new to me. I'm not familiar with the specific policy that dic- dictates that. I'll have to look into that, but that's another one of those conversations that could should come out of um the school has a leadership team as well. And discussion of okay, what decisions are we going to be making about what we do in this case such as you're you're talking about. Um should take place and should be a part of what we we move forward

doing. >> Are there any um in the training, are there like mock drills of scenarios that occur to help you know, in preparation for when this actually does happen? Those kind of things? Is any training conducted in that manner? >> I don't have an answer for you. I'm not I'm positive. I apologize. >> Okay. >> Well, that certainly should be a practice situation so that there's not just >> Mhm. >> trying to remember what they were taught. So, I don't I would imagine there is and or are. But, I I apologize. I'm not able to >> Well, I'm just thinking cuz I know, you know, talking about safety and I know we do different kinds of, you know, we do fire drills. We do, you know, in the event that we have someone coming into

the building and >> Well, the school does have a crisis plan and I will investigate that. I'm sorry. >> I I figured out where we were going. Sorry. I will investigate whether or not that is a part of that. I would think it should be. >> Is there any additional resources from the state level um in regards to the training or something like that that we have not explored? >> That we have not explored or we I know we have we have crisis uh crisis teams that are supposed to be available to us and we there was a reached out we reached out to them. Uh >> I'm just trying to think of additional Yeah. >> We recently In some cases, we are this is not an excuse. It's just an explanation of a recent

conversation and meeting we had where some agencies upon which we lean when we have an issue >> Mhm. >> uh have not been available even after multiple contacts to see what's going on. Uh a conversation of yet of like the day before 2 days ago, I think. Uh we asked that the abandoned that particular agency and go elsewhere in the state to see if there's not someone else uh with I think my statement was I totally respect that area of the state, but they're not available to us. We need to go elsewhere. >> Yeah. >> So, in somewhat of an answer to your question. There are so many prongs >> Mhm. >> in this this concerning issue. So many prongs. Uh none of them to be minimized over the other or by the other. Um

>> Yeah. >> We'll continue to work >> the the staff staying over that you mentioned and having conversation with you and sharing that and I did hear that administration had a a meeting as well about communication and I appreciate that um cuz as we all know communication is so important. So, I do appreciate that those steps have been taken and >> They're and I I will acknowledge they seem like micro steps to a large problem. Uh and the question you're probably saying why do we get there? Uh that too will need to be investigated so we can make some changes. How do we get That was what I think you were referring to, Mr. Taylor. >> Some of the things on this list >> The staff meeting list? >> Yes. Um >> Thank you. >>

Sorry. The the notes and list here. Some of these bullet points based on the simplicity of the bullet point feel immediately actionable. Um things like uh uncertainty about who enters data into WeVis. Um like is that cleared up? Like have we like been like oh, bullet point that fixes ABC or policy dictates or is there an immediate answer for any of these to like every snowman starts with that first snowball, right? Before you roll it down the hill, have we created that? >> Well, the expectation and reminder happens with every administrative council meeting about the essential need to document information with regularity and immediacy right away. But and there are forms that they have really I they I was what I learned at the meeting is that they have that faculty have a form that

they use and they then turn that into the administration. And the clarification that we were trying to get to at during that about that topic is that uh it's important to make to when you as a teacher do that please don't forget to follow up to make sure it's actually then been entered. Uh with and I say that because with clear understanding what you wrote because if someone's taking it and interpreting it for you, it's important that not be misinterpreted. So but I can assure you that uh each of our administrative council meetings includes the importance of that. Those kind of procedural things that should be taking place. Because at one of the things I shared with them as an example was that uh and this sounds like it like I'm plotting to have if

the record doesn't exist each time it occurs and something occurs later about which we could have seen there's a propensity of repetition that you are not doing a service to the eventual if a school go if a child goes from one school to the next for instance and one fails to enter their information and an episode takes place at a subsequent location then you have disarmed the second location to respond appropriately. Does that make sense? Sir? That is exactly I believe that's the statement that was made by Mrs. McCarthy who was with us that day at the meeting. >> That's how it is in nursing. If you didn't document it, it wasn't done. >> That's right. Yeah, I think we've all experienced that. Yes, sir. It's many these are many of the problems we're trying

to address. >> I have a suggestion. >> Okay. >> I think that reset room should be made into a temporary office for the superintendent. >> [laughter] >> And your rationale for that would be? >> I think you should be spending a lot of time at Anna Jarvis. >> Believe it or not, I have been. >> So, kind of in relation to what Mrs. Garvin was saying about um action steps and so forth like um the one on here follow up on incidents and communication concerns. Like what is the timeline for that? Is it 24 hours, 48? Like when are we following up with these things so that it they don't I don't want to say get forgotten, but I know everybody's busy and things happen like what kind of timelines do we have on some

of these action steps? When we're talking about a action plan like >> With regard to the incident reporting instance, that should be that day. >> Yeah. >> And the parents should be contacted that day. And the signatures should be obtained from both the administrator who's levying the consequence as well as the teacher that is reporting it. Or the staff members that's reporting it and then the parent's supposed to sign that as well. >> Okay, so those things should be happening before the end of the day and everyone's clear on that that is the process. >> That's what the Yes. >> Okay. >> I one at least one other question. Is is this the only school in our system with a reset room? I know that several of our schools have and and even several of

our classrooms throughout our schools have cozy corners and um fidget seats and things like that to help redirect and focus and dispel energy, but something specific like this, is this the only school in our system that has this? >> I am not aware of it being anywhere else. >> Okay. And do we have any other similar concerns or things like that in our other >> One >> Sorry. >> Let me catch up. There are sensory rooms set up places. Is that what you were asking? >> Yeah, like I >> Which is different than this room that you have photographed. >> Yeah, but the the room in this photograph is definitely not a sensory room. >> That is absolutely correct. >> So um that that's why I was asking cuz I I know we have the

difference and I know that occasionally just sitting in the corner or not sitting on the carpet or having the seat that wiggles is enough to bring you back to at least not being fully disruptive if not actually able to focus. Um sometimes it's not. Um and and I I understand the need for a place to remove yourself to or be removed to to re-regulate. I don't I don't know about the implementation of this specifically. >> I believe in our day it used to be called the no no chair. And that's what you were >> you had dunce [clears throat] caps too, honey, so that's not what we're talking about. >> Ms. Gallo, you were I Go ahead. I cut you off. I'm sorry, but >> Well, and I think that this room is not to

be used as punitive. >> That's my understanding. >> Yeah. Okay. So back where um I was asking >> asking about if this other schools. >> Yes, so do we have other schools in our county who are having any kind of similar concerns or issues or um you know lessons learned or pearls of wisdom that can be shared with Anna Jarvis. >> That was a two-question question. The first one was sorry. I'm not aware that I I in fact I've actually voiced why am I only hearing from one about this issue. Um I don't know if it happens to be the luck of the draw that there are more there's a larger number of students in trauma that are presenting the behaviors that we're experiencing. Um some will tell you well, that's the largest school. That's

why it's happening there. Um at the same time to answer your question, I don't I'm not aware of any of the other four locations. >> Just again looking for you know resources friends to to help us in this. >> A couple of things to add to that. Um you know, it's not a punitive room, but if if we continue to use that, some kids are going to see that as a reward room and they're going to want to be there. Um I as far as the um asking your question about is are there incidents of that nature at all at other elementary schools? I would venture to say that any principal would admit that they have those. The magnitude of the number of enrollments probably bring that more to AJ. >> Mhm. >> And I'm

just going to say this. We had a changing of a guard at that school, too. We have all new things going on at that school. So, as we continue to get these new trainings and policies and things in place, let's keep that in mind, too. Let's get our new assistant principal acclimated with I mean, how many days has she been here? Let's get her feet a little bit more wet in this as well. Um she's coming into a storm [snorts] of a couple of students that need a little guidance. Um and I know she has ideas. Um I heard about her interview. Um I know she has things. Let's let's get that together. Let's um you know, we've got a couple days left of this school year. Um let's get this together, but like Mr.

Taylor said, let's get a plan in place for starting that new year off. We don't want to hear I don't I don't want to read this in the Mountain State's men for August that we're still having this issue. >> Agreed. >> So, you will continue to keep us updated to things that are germane. >> I'll do my best. >> Thank you, sir. Does anybody have any additional questions or discussions on this topic at the moment? >> Okay. >> I just was going to echo what Mr. Dowdy said. I I think that a plan with a timeline and implementation steps and update us for that. >> We'll do. >> All right. All right. Uh next piece is the discussion of verbage for access to financial information in the 4000 series. >> For someone that likes to

be really organized, it seems to be that I'm not at all. I'm going to distribute >> Your color-coded folders are failing you this evening. >> They are. It's just the wrong color. I'm going to distribute something that I have have uh created as a result of your conversations recently in the meetings. And uh we met at when I say we, Mr. Summers and Mr. Dolan and myself met today. Um and you you've already seen some of the results of what they were discussing with the more broad information about the status of their funding. And I took the liberty uh of creating yet an additional piece that would be an entry in each subsequent uh Sorry. agenda for the top half of that is a sample 4000 series monthly funding reporting chart. And it would just

be a repetition but it'd be filled in each month with a very basic I did I was looking at it through a lens of a layman, not a finance person, more of a check balance check let register. And that's those two columns would be reflected each month and it would be just how much how much do we spend how much we have left the next month. And the only thing the reason I put those things in parentheses, some of those would be entered at the end of my recommendation. It would be for the second board meeting of the month. So that we would have we would have the known balance from the expenditures of the previous month. Not just some of them. And that would give Mr. Dolan an opportunity to gather that information. Do

the subtraction of the money that were forwarded from the previous month. And then we would have a current balance. Very simple. Uh in my mind. I always tell Mr. Dolan, he's the numbers guy, I'm the letters guy. And that made sense to me to provide those columns each time we have a board meeting and you would see new figures. But it keep you up to date with current amounts. Uh and that would be actually included as typed in on that 4,000 portion of the It wouldn't be quite that large. I was just using that as an example. And then the bottom half of that chart indicates the sample that we created based on our conversation. The statement in blue. That finance related documentation is available in the Taylor County Schools Finance Office for public review.

By appointment. At and that's the school number. The board number. I think that caps I I hope that captured what you agreed to when you get to say from the many samples we had available to us. >> Am I missing something? Uh you've got on here our balance and expenditures. You don't have revenues. Or should there be a revenue section to this? >> should be that would be something be more more of a forwarding piece of information that Mr. Dolan Mr. Dolan would provide to us. And this chart wouldn't be an exact replication, but it would be that kind of spirit of what we're talking about. And we can practice that or pilot that at the June 9th meeting for you to see what that would look like. And then your packet would of course

have the much more extensive information that he typically provides you. But this would be then available to even the Once it's Once the agenda's been posted, the public would see that as well. >> So, this would be like an attachment to the agenda, or this would be part of the agenda? >> would type it right in the 4000 series part. So, when when it's posted on the window, or >> Okay. >> people would actually see that current information. And my recommendation would be that would We'll add that for the second month meeting. The second meeting of the month. So, that we would have an opportunity to actually know what the all the expenditures happen to be for that previous month. Letters. >> I I'm fine with it. I think it has what I was looking

for, and I like the statement at the bottom. Um because we would want, you know, >> And that statement would also be available immediately underneath of that information on the agenda on in the 4000 series. So, it's really more applicable to have it there. >> Mhm. >> As a I thought about maybe just putting across the top of the the agenda, but it's really more specific to the money portion of the agenda. We can pilot it. >> I >> Mr. Grocer. >> I'd like to make a few comments if I can have the floor. Thank you. Um and I appreciate the time that Mr. Dolan uh Dr. Stallings spent with me a couple times. I emailed uh all the board members, the front office here, a spreadsheet. I don't know I didn't bring copies of

it. I apologize for that. Um I think that I think this needs a little more information. Um, I I'm a spreadsheet kind of a guy and and and I produced a spreadsheet and as we were talking this morning, I could see it it it's draft and it needs fixed. There's some things on here that aren't right. Um, but but I think it needs to definitely show how we're managing a quarter against the budget. So, if we budgeted $4,000 income this month and we got 3,000, it's not a red flag, but it's something worth noting. Now, it could be because, you know, we get some of our money from taxes paid and mo- a lot of people pay their full year in September, which means we probably get it in October and then not many people

pay taxes after that till March. So, I'd expect September and or August or or excuse me, October and and April to be bigger months. Um, there there may be some activities which cause uh uh you know, certain things like uh our food for our cafeterias and all to be lower in January because we were out a couple two or three weeks in December. And so, you know, you'd still need to see how you're working against the budget. So, we've got to have a a column or something there that shows how we're managing against the budget so that we can see we're meeting the budget we put together. Like the budget that was just presented tonight. Uh we need to make sure we're not getting seriously in the red in some area. And it gives us

time for correction. So, it's very important to me that we have the the the monthly. And the information's here is good and we can modify it over time. Uh just as long as we all understand what it states. But I we've got to have how we're working year-to-date and year-to-date against the budget. And such that we can quickly look at this and within a few seconds, a few moments, we can say we're starting to get a concern. This is the third time we've gone in the red on something. And it could be that diesel fuel prices went up and our transportation is costing more than we budgeted for. So, that tells us, "Okay, we got to pull some maybe some funds some from somewhere else, some other location to compensate that because we only have

so much budget to spend." Uh so so we've got to have it that added to the sheet. I'm not the owner or copywriter or holding a patent on any of my sheets. Anyone can modify, change, add to, subtract from, but I want to get something that we all get there, but I'm really going to push very hard against uh measuring. It's got to be more than just a report. It's got to be a measure, a yardstick against how we're doing according to the plan. And if we don't have a plan, then we don't have uh we we have a plan because we have a budget. So, I just want to report the plan with the actual. So, those are my comments I'd like to add. Um I can't make the June 6th meeting, so uh

you know, any decision we made I would respectfully request that we not do that until June 23rd at that meeting. Uh and go from there. Uh so that that's my two cents. I'm willing to meet with anybody between now and then except June 6th. Um >> This is Mr. This is uh I apologize. We did talk about the fact that you were not available on the 9th when we met earlier today. That was my error. Uh June 9th is it either way, but yeah, I do remember we talked about maybe piloting that on the 23rd. That's my misspeak. I did want to say what you just commented about, please, since we're live streaming, you were using a for instance should we ever be in the red as opposed to when we were in the red.

So, the public doesn't misinterpret what where we are. Where It's >> It's green. >> Yeah. Yes, we're we're fiscally sound and we're in good shape. >> green. >> But I want to be able to see it immediately. >> Right. Right. For sure. >> I think it's in the black. So, you're either in the black or the >> That's the color we need to be on this one. >> And you want to be in the black. >> I don't want anybody that's hearing this miss so I heard them say something about being in the red and now we're like, "Uh." Rumor. Rumor. Rumor. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. And thank you. I feel confident that Mr. Dolan will affirm that we're in the black. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> [laughter] >> That is correct. >> Now

you're in the minutes. >> You, sir, are not a funny man. >> [laughter] >> I try to be. >> Uh I for one would like to thank Mr. Summers for getting us started cuz I think it's a move in the right direction and I appreciate it. So, thank you. >> You're quite welcome. Thank you, John. >> We use a cheat sheet similar to this and I will forward it forward the one that I use. Um it might be a little more um everybody friendly. Yeah. I didn't want to say user-friendly, but yeah. Like it might be I get where you're trying to go. I would offer you mine as an alternate. Um I'll email it. >> Yeah. Thank you. I'm I'm not you know, I'm not going to fall on a sword here to protect

this thing. >> No. I'm And And I my opinion is not as relevant as yours or Mr. Taylor's or Ms. Gallo's at this point as far as how this functions for y'all. >> You know, but but I do think the public needs to have, you know, a little bit of information that's easy to understand, a one-pager, quick to see, and if there's more details needed, by all means, then you know, it just can't be made fully available all the time, and an appointment coming in to do that is just fine." 98% of people will probably not have the time or the ability uh even though they may want to to ever have to do that, but if they have some information, then that would probably be good, and then if there's more, we'd be glad

to to to satisfy those requests. >> Any additional conversation on the verbage and or future financial reporting? Hearing none, I will ask if anyone has discussion or comment for future meeting. I do. >> I don't have anything, yeah. >> I do. Um I have had a couple of people reach out to me and ask about consistent and slightly more visible um signage uh specifically they are curious about the improvements that are ongoing with our high school athletic complex. Um we now have an updated baseball field. We have a nice football field. We are making additions um to the softball and tennis areas. Are all of those fields named? Are there plaques? Are those plaques consistent? Are those I honestly have no idea. So I I think there was a question >> Well, I I just

handed you a debt about naming of locations. We found a policy that speaks to that and there's a there's a qualifier and it's just a two Would you read it for everyone? It's just a two-liner. >> Sure. Uh this is from policy 7250, commemoration of school facilities. Um Such commemoration shall be reserved for those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the enhancement of education generally or or the county in particular or to the well-being of the county, community, state or nation as determined by the board. Any employee of the county thus honored must be deceased or no longer employed by the county board prior to the board selection of his or her name for a plaque or the naming of a facility. So um I know that for instance, Miss Upton Field was

named after Mr. Upton retired. Um so that is solid there. I just Like I didn't know if the tennis court had a name and they asked me and I was like, "Ooh, I don't know." And I >> To date, I don't think they do. >> Okay. >> And that that's all I could find about any policy that causes us to be how we approach that. >> Um >> Was there Was there a question about the softball field or something? >> Yeah. Like did the softball field have a name cuz somebody said it had one name and somebody said it didn't have a name and And now that we have a new building, does that building get a different name or >> I think that's just intended Well, that's shared facility. Remember that particular building is

shared between tennis and and softball. >> Right. >> That was gifted to us. Um >> Which is really long. >> Right, it's uh >> We We >> [laughter] >> You think we can sell the sponsorship to that? >> name away. Um >> Um >> So uh I am not aware. I've asked the same question about the softball field because that's been here >> a minute. Yeah. >> But uh I have not been told a name. >> So if we could get a little follow up um and maybe just cuz I know facilities doesn't have anything else to do. >> I just simply today have returned to I've just referred to the Grafton High School Sports Complex. And when I reference that, I'm referring to baseball all the way to the other western end where it's

a softball field and >> Yeah. >> uh if there are if your goal is to uh name each of the portions we just need to unless you change your policy, which you also can do uh right now you're the policy that you're working with is that you have to make sure that person is either deceased or no longer employed >> Right. >> after having contributed yada yada. >> Okay. So we are >> I can investigate who's who knows what name it is and >> Yeah, if we could figure out who knows what name it is and if all of those things are appropriately and consistently placked. >> Placked is what you placked. Okay. >> Or or signaged identified. Well, the the other thing is like we don't want a a 3 by 5 plack on

the softball field and a 30 by 50 plack on the like there needs to be a some level of equity. >> Okay. >> [laughter] >> Do you know what I mean? Like a note card this big plack on this building versus a billboard on another piece. Level of equity, level of shared importance, level of shared community and uplift. >> I get you. I'm I'm laughing because I look forward to the opportunity to figure out where the all the placks are. I'll go start watching for those. >> I mean >> With a >> I'm willing to have a background in this one. >> meaning to be disrespectful of anyone who's been their name is on a plack somewhere. I will investigate that. My guess is our ADs will be able to talk to me about that

pretty quickly. >> Very good. Um and then on an alternate topic, um I have taken the time and the distinct pleasure to see the spring concerts for our high school choir and entertainers and our high school band and our middle school band and the middle school choirs and y'all, I am blown away. The kids in this county are so crazy talented and we are so lucky to have the Chidos at the middle school and everything Jeritha Mayo has done this year and all the all of the people who culminated into the end of this year's programs have really Those kids are awesome. >> If I >> a ton of them. I mean >> I'll remind you last year the middle school's program music program had 27% of their student body uh participating in the choral

and band. That's quite a statement. I also wanted to follow up on what you said if I may uh to acknowledge Mrs. Mayo just one more time. She is leaving us through retirement. She has earned that we she believes that I believe and she has done great things. Uh she stepped in and helped us with our dilemma of last year earlier this year. Um and she gives credit to the students responding to her. That doesn't happen immediately. Um she earned their respect quickly and gives credit to all the kids coming together making that work real well. We also and to acknowledge the Chidos both Mrs. and Mr. Um and to acknowledge your recent hiring of a new band director who comes to us with quite a strong reputation for creating and establishing and maintaining a

very strong program in his former life career. Uh and I look forward to that transition from middle to high to grow and grow. And I think great things are in our future. Um as demonstrated already by the fact that I'll remind you both of the middle and high school bands achieved all superior ratings. Uh even under that their pressure circumstances. They That's not an easy thing to get a band to sound good all at one time. And they have risen to the challenge and have done you proud. Us proud. Um >> Anybody got anything else for future discussion? >> Oh, go ahead. >> Um yeah, it's it's it's a follow-up to the to the end of the last meeting when I gave a little speech. And uh since that time I did receive my first

paycheck and uh it did pay me $260 to sit here through a 3-minute meeting which consisted of roll call, pledge, prayer, and approval of the levy which was status quo, keep going as you're doing. And so I said at that time I could not constantly take $260 from the school to uh for that meeting, especially when I was getting paid $260 for the follow-on meeting which lasted an hour. So therefore I have brought my refund check that I will turn over to Mr. Dolan to put back into the school system uh because I just couldn't feel taking away because there have been teachers sending emails requesting $100 for this, $200 for that, and I will not sit here and accept $260 for a 3-minute meeting to stay status quo. Thank you. >> I just wanted

to comment. I see um you're going to try to get Mr. Devert here with the middle school golf team at our next meeting. Is that >> I just thought that was the most immediate after their commencement. I'll do it whenever you prefer, but it just made sense to try to get him here for June. I know that's after the school year's out. >> Mhm. >> Uh but we can wait till the fall, but I that's that's an awful idea. >> Yeah, that's what I was recommending tonight. >> to be now, too. And I also just wanted to um make a comment of appreciation to our Memorial Day Parade Committee um for just for everything that they're doing um for the parade and for the community and also for our schools because they have um one

of the individuals has agreed to come in and do a presentation on on Memorial Day and the and the importance and so forth. So, I think that that just really shows the community involvement with our schools and their dedication and I really do appreciate um all their efforts with that. >> I just wanted to thank you for that acknowledgement. I'll share that with the board the Memorial Day Parade Committee membership. Uh and also I did I just want to announce something about which I'm excited and I have mixed emotions because there the honor court concept that we introduced 2 years ago started out with a very small group. This year I I'm kind of my mixed emotions are we have 45 participating at this year. And uh that's a lot of little kiddos. So, but

watch for the group. Uh Mrs. Westfall has been helping me keep track of all those people that are confirming. Uh we have increased the number of flowers or whatever we're making available to them because they're participating. Each time we get a new phone call, um and pray for Monday we have good weather we pray for, but it doesn't look like Mother Nature got the message. But we'll we'll make it work. I've I remember years and years ago walking down Main Street back when Lotspeich Elementary School was still in operation where we sat on the end of the bus or it sat on the end of the street on the bus waiting for a break in the weather that never came. And that happened to be a year when there was a I think a Family

Dollar Street uh store on the street. And uh I had a what I thought was a brilliant idea to go buy boxes of garbage bags and we covered all the white the children in white with black garbage bags to keep them dry. Halfway down the road some parent was complaining about that and I happened to hear and I said I was just trying to keep from getting sick and she changed her tune and said, "Oh, well, that's a really good idea. What a nice thing he's doing." I'm like, "Okay, we're flipping back and forth." But I I think Monday might be a potential repeat of the downpour, but we're still going to do it. >> All right. Anything else? >> and just so you know, I I purchased clear ponchos for my members that are

marching with me. >> Very good. All right. Any additional future discussion? All right. Hearing none, we'll move to the 9000 series future meetings. Currently, we are June 9th, 6:00 here at the board office and June 23rd, 6:00 here at the board office. That concludes this fiscal year. Is that all we got? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Thank you, sir. At this point, I will entertain a motion to adjourn. >> So moved. >> Mr. Taylor moves. >> Second. >> Ms. Gallo seconds. Questions, comments, concerns? All those in favor? I. Opposed? Thank you for all you do. We are adjourned at 7:32.
