001It is 6 o'clock and I'm going to call this meeting to order. All board members are present. It is the practice of our board of education to begin our meetings with ple prayer and the pledge. We invite you to bow your heads in prayer and stand to join us in the pledge if you so choose. Lord, we respectfully ask for your guidance and wisdom as we proceed with the business before us. Keep us mindful of our purpose of providing a quality education for the students attending Taylor County Schools. Amen. Dr. Stallings, do we have any adjustments or addendums to the agenda? >> In fact, Miss Carvin, we do. >> Thank you. >> I would ask the board to indicate we are going to pull item 3103. That's item 3103. That's on the third page of

002your agenda on the top out of out of county travel. That particular group has decided not to go forth with that particular request. >> Okay. Also, I would ask that we uh adjust the agenda further by renumbering this evening's meeting to number from 22 to 21 due to the recent uh shifting uh or rescheduling of the calendar meeting. >> Very good. >> That would make an official shift to tonight's meeting becoming 21. And lastly, >> we're changing the number of this meeting tonight from 22 to 21 because we previously had two things listed as 21 and 22. And since 21 has been rescheduled, the purpose of 21 has been rescheduled. We are now having the 21st meeting tonight. And lastly, uh I'd like to I'm suggesting or mentioning that we have an addendum that is

003uh and the you received a copy of it regarding the additional information pertaining to the 8000 series discussion. I believe all of you have a copy of that in your packet. >> Okay. >> And with that, I think we are moving on. Thank you. >> Does anyone have any other adjustments they would like made? >> Hearing none, superintendent respectfully requests approval of the agenda as amended. Moved. >> Mrs. Gallow moves. Do I have a second? >> Mrs. Not seconds. Would you like to table it or would you like to postpone it? Tabling it brings it back to the end of the discussion this evening out of order. Postponing it moves it to a different meeting. Which would you prefer? Okay. Mr. Dowy has made the motion to postpone item 5384 to the next available meeting.

004>> I I want to I want the public to know why Mr. Dowy has requested to do that. So that I want to make sure that it doesn't look like we're just we just push >> you want to make sure it looks like we're not just kicking a can down the road. I I I do I I want I want you to explain why you're asking. I I know the answer, but >> the main reason is that we had um conflicting um due to the weather with tonight. We had conflicting plans um to go virtual and then we had the plan to be here and all of that was done within a short amount of time and we're here. Um unfortunately, constituents are not here and I don't think it's fair for us to have

005that item on the agenda without our constituents here because I know a lot of them want to voice their opinions and I don't think it's right for us to have that on there without them here to be able to do so. >> All right, at this point we have an open motion >> second. >> And Mrs. Not second. >> Oh, sorry. Do we have to fill that position in the meantime if we don't do that tonight? >> No. >> Thank you. >> I have a clarifying question, please. So, um, if we're postponing, then that means no further comment can be made at this meeting on that topic. Correct? >> According to the West Virginia School Board. Yeah, >> we're basically pulling it off the agenda. >> Yeah. >> Whereas tableabling it would simply move it

006to the end. >> So, >> okay. >> But the motion is to postpone. >> The motion is to postpone. >> Thank you. >> All right. We have a first and a second. Any additional questions? All those in favor? >> Opposed? Motion passes. Okay. Bringing us back to the overriding motion of the approval of the agenda as amended and amended. We have a first and a second there. All those in favor? >> I I >> opposed. That sounded like a pass. All right. And that moves us directly into the 1000 series information. >> One moment. I make that. >> Certainly. Point of clarification, we're postponing it to when >> next meeting. >> To the next regular meeting. Yes. >> I just didn't want to misrepresent my note. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Members of the

007board and Dr. Mr. Decker, I've prepared a packet of information for this meeting, these updates and uh there are numbers. So there I have them in sequence and we'll speak to them in that way. Uh there are a couple updates that are not a part of the documentation because they're just a a comment to be made. But I wanted to make sure that you um notice that the uh first piece of information in your packet is are the updates from the Taylor County Middle School that was provided to me. both updates regarding the three categories that we typically look to look look to their data reveals their shoutouts for success and in case you haven't heard categories. In addition, immediately bei behind that you'll find information regarding their the status of their we ongoing weapons

008detection system uh schedule. I know that that's been asked in the past but um they're continuing as per your request that they're giving us ongoing updates. So, it wasn't just a one-time thing. Um the next in your packet you will find uh information pertaining to the diagnostic review that is take has taken place and is ongoing actually at the Anna Jarvis Elementary School in response to uh the visit that we had earlier this year um at this when this January, excuse me, when the representatives from the state department visited office and representatives of our central office attended the school and they conducted the diagnostic review which involves observations andor interviews. That information is reflected in the packet. Oops, sorry. First, the standards of the effective schools focus diagnostic report that was provided to us and

009followed by a review and overview by the representative from the state department, Miss LSH. Uh the last two pages of that typed packet reflects the subsequent activity that took that has taken place thus far with the recommended uh leadership team consisting of the building principal uh a few of their selected leadership team from their faculty Dr. Decker, Mrs. Roberts and Miss Fiser. uh they are working on that uh routinely meeting once a week I believe and they are going over at this point in time they are going over the initial establishment of agreed upon expectations per the recommendation by the state um it's very similar to what took place with the previous school at Flemington's um successful work through that process that is in its earliest stages because of course they did the diagnostic review

010activity. Then we were uh provided that followup by Stacy Los from the state department and then time was taken to um establish the team and they had been working on that. In addition, um, uh, you'll see later on our agenda, there was an item on there that even that's referenced on the last page of that packet where there was a recommendation from the state and, uh, actually an inquiry about having a mentor assist the principal during this time of transition. Uh, that that is in place as a part as a part of a recommendation. Uh all of those things are, as I mentioned, part of the typical process that goes into play when they're doing those kinds of uh adjustments to a school's practices and procedures. Uh and it has great promise in my opinion.

011Uh the most difficult part is the the essential component of obtaining um fidelity across the faculty and staff. And this is like I said in the earliest stages. So uh they are still working on developing consensus which is a part of the process for each of the things that they're dealing with. It is my understanding so far that their first of their their uh topics to attend is behavior and uh already I'm hearing very positive uh things about the expectations and how they're they're uh spinning them in a positive manner as opposed to uh being rules driven that seem to be of a negative ilk. Um I'll be giving you updates about that periodically. The next on your in your packet, you'll see I provided you a copy of the requested uh updates regarding the

012uh delay and countywide school closure procedures. and we've expanded that to include a column dealing with uh extracurricular activities, sports, the arts, all those activities so that we can eliminate the confusion. Um my focus when I did that was primarily on the safety of our students both those performing andor participating in the activity as well as those attending. Um the intent there is because I've observed since I became your superintendent that not only are students attending those activities but after the fact there's a seems to be a tendency for a lot of our stu not a lot but enough and even with one concerns me. making sure that we are making arrangements not to have all of us just leave without paying attention to the fact that sometimes our students either walking home after the

013fact and or standing on the corner waiting for a ride and with this extreme weather those kinds of things that cause us to close causes me great concern. I've talked to the building administrators and they have made arrangements so that that's not something that they ignore. Um and so uh your packet includes the most recently um edited because I also wanted to acknowledge the importance of recognizing the regional and state tournaments. If we have students who are uh earning the uh the option uh to participate then um those would be the op the only exceptions to that. That's a hard thing for the superintendent's discretion to land on. But I I feel strongly that these are the best recommendations to be followed and that information will be distributed. I've spoken to our administrators about that.

014But I thought I would make sure that I share that with you as a board as well before I actually sent the copies to them. Next on the pack in your packet you will find uh this is an announcement I wanted to let you know about um I received word just today some very exciting news. I hope everyone thinks that. As you all recall, we've been working in partnership with the pre the the Preston Taylor Community Health Center, Preston Taylor County Community Health Center, and they uh we have been I give them credit. They have been pursuing some grants that was available nationwide and uh were recently informed as recently as just the other day they have won the national a national grant that will provide us significant funds. Uh Miss Mrs. Griffith the director

015of that program will be traveling to North Carolina. Please don't ask me what town, but we'll travel down there so she can select what what version of the mobile health unit will be now made available to us at no cost because the grant will cover that and that will now make it possible for us to continue to provide services not just in our couple locations but across the county. That is a major accomplishment and credit goes to Mrs. Griffith who uh fronted or stayed on crafting that application. Um just as an aside, it came down to two states. We were the one of the two and the other was California. I think that's quite an accomplishment for that grant writing. So, u it is awesome and we look forward to having that. It is supposed

016to be um such that it'll have two to three rooms for examinations and services for dental and vision and behavioral health if and as needed or as identified or requested. That is not to eliminate what we're doing in our middle school and our future anvis. It's just an expansion of and uh I'm excited about that and so uh we look forward to hearing more about that since uh there will be a cut ribbon cutting ceremony once that is identified, manufactured and delivered. But uh I just want to keep you a breast of that. The next bit in your packet would be um uh information regarding the calendar related survey that actually just went out this evening to faculty and staff soliciting more information so that we were giving them yet another option and a way

017to sub uh provide yet more information about what might be considered for developing the calendar. Uh Miss Mrs. McCarthy took the lead on that for us. And uh that was sent out just today and she hopes to have that information back by Friday so that she can work on that on Monday and then report to us at our next meeting that's been scheduled for the 10th at Flemington. That'll be in addition to soliciting input from people that attend that meeting as well. And lastly, I just want to give you an update. I know there's a concern about the Flemington Elementary School interior door. Uh that concern is still um being addressed. I don't have a final status of that other than to reassure that it's been brought to the attention of the our maintenance department

018and uh both Dr. Decker and Mrs. Shoemaker are are working on that. Um I believe that's all that I have for this evening. Thank you. All right, that moves us uh to board member updates or board committee meeting reports. Hearing none, we'll move to the 2000 series. The superintendent respectfully requests approval of the minutes from the special meeting of January 20th, 2026. >> Mr. Taylor moves. >> Mrs. Gallow seconds. Questions? All those in favor? I opposed. I'm going to ask for a call because I only heard two voices. You said I Okay. >> All right. We have three, but I'm not hearing everyone this evening. So, I was gonna but I've guaranteed three at this point. So, all right. We have a series of policies and codes in the second reading. Was that a three

019zero? >> It's at least three. >> Okay. >> I >> Okay, I'm just >> Why don't we just raise our hand if we approve? >> We can do that. Everybody approve. >> Okay, we are five passes. >> Usually I can hear everybody. Tonight I am not hearing. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Series of policies and codes in the second reading. Those in the second reading need no action taken unless there are questions. That moves us to the policies and codes in the third reading. The superintendent respectfully requests approval of items through 2232 in the 2000 series. >> Moved. But I have questions. >> Mrs. Gallow moves. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> Mrs. Not seconds and questions. >> Yes. So I had a question on um it's item 2226. It's the artificial

020uh intelligence the AI. I just had a question about what safeguards are in place uh with that. If you could tell us that or know that and then also what training the staff gets on that to ensure that it's being utilized appropriately and safely for our kids. >> I don't want to speak for her, but uh I know that we Mrs. uh Vander is working on that to prepare um once those information that information is uh finalized, there'll be some professional development about all that for all of our individual staff and faculty and staff. >> Okay. >> Um that has not been scheduled yet. >> Okay. Does that occur on like professional development days? March. >> Excuse me, I misspoke. There is It has been scheduled for March. >> Okay. The other kind of followup

021question I had with that though is I know the professional development day that we had in January 2nd, I think Dr. Decker I had asked and there were like 120 people not here. So what method of training do they get if they do not attend that? How do they get that information to make sure that that training is received? >> We I'll repeat I'll repeat that for you. So it goes over there. We it our practice is to provide makeup sessions for those concept activities even if there's just an um a group of people is not have not completed that some of that becomes mandatory and they there's a monitoring process for that. So it is mandatory then. >> Oh yeah, we we would do that for sure. Okay. Yes, ma'am. >> Um the other

022question I had um is on 2229 in regards to school safety. Um in that it talks about the plan that is submitted to the state. I just was wanting to clarify when that gets submitted. Is that at the beginning of the school year? >> It's an annual submission. Yes, >> ma'am. Okay. The other piece to that was um on letter G, it says a representative of the board is to be appointed by the president of the board. I just wondered who is our representative of that? >> Do we know? I do not believe we have anyone specific appointed to that. >> Okay. Because it just said someone was and I wasn't aware of that. So >> board member appointee or does it could it be >> it says a representative of the board is to

023be appointed. >> So it has to be a board member. >> Yes. Not a board appointed employee. So I believe once that becomes enacted, Miss Gallo, I'm not I'm not trying to cut you off, but once that becomes enacted, then you would then have the opportunity as a board to make the determination just like you decide who goes to the UTC meetings and etc. >> Okay. I was just uh wanting clarification because I know this was last revised in October of 23. So I didn't notice that being new, but it's an overlook for sure. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Could you come to the microphone, please? We are currently working with a platform that will give teachers a guided AI platform to help train them and develop that AI experience for

024students and staff, more of a guided process. So, we actually have a meeting this week with the rep for that and we will be bringing that to the board as a um it will be a a purchase a licensing pres subscription. So, we will um be bringing that to the board at some point. Um it is freebased. We could do a freebased program, but there are a lot of extra features for our teachers that will be very good for um writing and instruction and all of the curriculum based that go that will help guide students through the AI process. So, we are working with them for that. So, I just want to give you that a little bit background, but we have not presented that to you just yet. So, I kind of wanted to

025make sure that you're aware of that. Um and Melissa Carr, our technology integration specialist, will be providing some integration and um professional development for that. So that's we have that planned for March. So just wanted to kind of clarify that for you. It will all back onto our AI policy. >> Okay. So >> thank you. I appreciate that. I mean I know it it's here and it's been here and you know we're just expanding even more and more with technology and I know >> utilizing it in my own work, but I just wanted to know a little bit more. >> Well, you asked about safeguards and one of the the key points of this platform is that it um protects our students data. Um that is one of the key pieces of that platform. So

026if teachers are having students put information in and do different things, it is furpa which is our federal uh guidance. So we it's very safeguarded for that. So that is one of the main things that they um they talk about. So, >> okay. >> One of their um features that's offered. So, >> thank you. >> You're welcome. We have any additional questions or concerns about anything in this section of the 2000 series? We have an open motion. All those in favor, raise your hand, say I. I motion passes. Resolve that the bylaws and policies printed and codified in the comprehensive document entitled bylaws and policies of the Taylor County Board of Education are hereby adopted and that all bylaws policies hereto for adopted by the Taylor County Board are hereby rescended. Further, it be it

027resolved that in the event any policy part of policy section of bylaws is judged to be inconsistent with law inoperative in a court of competent jurisdiction or is invalidated by a policy or contract duly adopted by this board, the remaining bylaws, policies and parts of policies shall remain in full effect. Continuing into the 2000 series, item 2233. Superintendent respectfully requests approval of item 2233 in the 2000 series. >> Mrs. KN moves. Mrs. Gallow seconds. Questions, comments, concerns. >> Yeah, I had uh some concerns initially, but I I see Dr. Stallings has answered those in his uh updates. So, >> thank you. Well paid. >> All right. In that case, we have an open motion on the floor. All those in favor? >> I opposed. Motion passes. Moving into the 3000 series consent calendar. Uh as

028a reminder, 3103 is pulled. We got some purchase orders, some facility use, travel out of county, out of state. Superintendent respectfully requests approval of items 3099 through 311 with the exception of 3103 in the 3000 series. >> Mrs. Knots moves. >> Mr. Taylor seconds. Questions, comments, concerns? I just wanted to comment that with the weather that we've been having, it's nice that they're getting these on here early so that in the event we would have to postpone a meeting, they've got their approvals there. Very good. We have an open motion. All those in favor? I opposed. Motion passes. Moving into the 4,000 series financial. Tell us some things, Mr. Dolan. >> Good evening. Uh so for your financial update this evening, uh we had uh a couple grants that we received. Uh these were for

029uh training that a couple of our employees went to uh back in November and December. Uh so they received a stipen for attending those meetings. So we received a um a couple of grants for to to get those individuals those supplements. Um there were a few other budget supplements for just um beefing up some of our our budgets uh throughout the um throughout the year. So that's the last part of bud the budget supplement part. Any questions on those? Okay. Uh the next part of your packet is your schedule of checks that are already written. Uh those include um some of our payroll items, uh contracts and stuff that have already been approved. Uh in the second part of your packet are the schedule of checks to be written upon your approval include items for

030maintenance supplies uh travel reimbursements and uh items of that nature. Are there any questions regarding that? >> So thank you very much. >> You're welcome. >> Superintendent respectfully requests approval of items in the 4,000 series. I'll move. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Mr. Taylor moves and question. >> I do have a question, but I don't know that it's to um Mr. Dolan. It might be uh Dr. Stallings. In regards to the um I think it might be $450. I might be wrong on the amount there, but the money that the teachers can utilize to purchase supplies or things like that like through faculty senate or whatever, what is that process that they need to do to get that >> that >> those monies? >> So that is kept at the school level. We

031are given >> okay at the beginning of each >> at the at the beginning I could I could have went At the beginning of the school year, uh there's a process where the state gives us money for the uh for that faculty senate money and then it is divided out to the schools and it's kept in the account at the school level. >> Okay. >> And then they have their same purchasing processes that we that we follow through the county. So, and there are certain items that they can and can't buy. So is it >> and just for my clarification um can they only utilize that money at the beginning of the year or is it any time until they expend what they're allotted or what >> they they can each year because the faculty

032senate kind of operates as their own uh entity >> um they vote on that each year so they can vote to roll that those monies over each year for each teacher. So a teacher can build that fund up if they want to purchase a more expensive item, you know, that doesn't you they can't afford right off the bat. Um, so there's there is that leeway with it. So >> Okay. >> but it's held at the school level. So they need to ask >> their faculty senate representative. Yes, they are. They have, like I said, they when they have their faculty senate meetings, >> they get that approval and they have a purchase or they have a requisition that they have to fill out >> that the board that the faculty senate president has to sign

033off on. It then goes to the secretary and principal for them to sign off on to make sure that it's an appropriate purchase and then it's it's ordered. So, but they do have those funds available to them from >> and it's each >> start to start >> professional. >> There's there are stipulations as to who receives that receives those funds. >> Okay. >> So, uh like I said, that's part of the process when we when we receive the funds at the beginning of year where we have to go through and look at the um individuals that are a that are the money is sent to or the position that it's sent to. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yep. Um, I think I know I received your email. I haven't had a chance to look it

034over yet on what we requested with because this is financial. So, I'm just going to mention it with the advertising fees and didn't you send us an email on that yet or not? Maybe I >> Okay, so I asked the question off record. about the advertising fees that we're spending with the TV stations to advertise for more teachers if we're going to end up if we're end up in the position of having to look over every every employment job function and possibly have to riff. I mean, if we're going to be 70 over, why are we advertising for teachers? So, I'd like to have that because I think then another board member chimed in and said, "Can we see how that advertising dollars maybe has helped give us what what have we gotten from it?"

035Right? If there was any way to find that out, it's just if we're going to be over 70 positions, why are we advertising and recruiting at that level and paying those funds out for recruiting for advertising if we're going to be 70 over? So, I'd like to have that on another agenda for discussion. I know we can't discuss it tonight because it's not on here, but I know we just we've asked to have that down and just have a small discussion on it. We can't do it tonight though, >> right? She is correct because it is not on the agenda. Um >> I will have that information for you. >> But since we were in financial, I'm just asking to please put it on the next agenda. >> Yes. Okay. Does that satisfy all of

036the questions in the financial section? We have an open motion on the floor. All those in favor? >> I opposed. Motion passes. Moving us into the 5000 series. We've got uh professional personnel with a three-step apparel, extracurricular, extra duties, and some resignations and retirements and subs and retirements and more service subs and resignations and leave of absences and retirements. Superintendent respectfully requests approval of items 5370 through 5390 with the exception of 5384 which was postponed in the 5000 series. >> Mr. Taylor moves >> second. >> Mrs. Gallow seconds questions, comments, concerns. It is with a mixed heart that I vote on 5380 and 5381 uh and 5383. Her retirement is uh well earned uh but we will miss her. >> Yep. Absolutely. I'd like to add an accolade if I may. Uh, Mrs. Mail has

037been um extremely influential on a lot of young men and young women in our county for a number of years. Uh, that influence is ongoing and she also stepped up uh to cover some of the responsibilities that uh became where that need became present to us in late fall. And uh without question, she's been working extremely hard keeping all those things and juggling all those tasks. And I just want to acknowledge that that was beyond u appreciated very much. So we will miss her for sure. She's also the other voice in your snow day songs. >> All right, we have an open motion on the floor. All those in favor? I opposed. Motion passes. Moves us into the 8,000 series. Um where we have an update on the legal response to the inquiry regarding board

038member compensation and meeting numbering. Um there was a request that went to state board state. That request in turn got forwarded to a lawyer. The request for information was hey is this right? In the past, we've been paid for meetings individually and then there was a change and meetings were being paid for example uh a calendar meeting and a regular meeting back to back were being paid as one. Was that one? Was it two? We have gotten mixed guidance over the last several years as to which way that goes. um at this point and I did forward this information to everyone. So if you didn't get it, let me know and I'll send it again. Um but it is the opinion of Bulls and Rice that back-to-back meetings are a single meeting in terms of

039the payout structure. Um, there is no definitive opinion on whether that needs to be 18 and 19, 18A, 18B that I was able to glean as I read this. I am willing to entertain any level of discussion or contrary opinion if we have it. It would simplify matters for accounting purposes if the two meetings were held on the same night and to number them like 18A and 18B rather than 18 and 19 because uh they're if they're going to be paid as one meeting they ought to be counted as one number. >> I agree with Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Garvin, it doesn't make any sense to number them separately. >> I'm I'm not >> And that was the direction of Mr. Oul whenever um we spoke to him about that. He was very adamant about that

040as well. >> It just he was more on the line of an 18A and 18B >> and that and that >> I don't have any objection to that. I'm sorry. >> Yeah. I mean I I I agree with everybody. I just feel that if they are numbered 21 and 22 or 31 and 32 they should be paid as separate meetings. Now what the policy is saying is different than that. That's fine. Then we go back to I feel 18B or 21 A 21B or if we have three meetings it's ABC. Here in lies the issue. Last year if we got to meeting 47 at the end of the year, was that really meeting 47 or was it really 42? >> Okay. >> And that's what you need to look at. >> Yeah. >> Right. And

041and I understand both sides of that. Um >> if we're here, we're here, >> right? If we're here for five minutes or we're here for 30 minutes and we have that meeting and then we adjourn that meeting and we start another meeting, we didn't leave. We're still here for the one meeting. That's an A and a B. >> I believe and I am absolutely willing to be corrected that the levy rate is the only meeting that has to be separate. So which leads me to wonder is there any reason that for instance the calendar meeting couldn't just be a 30 minute public forum at the beginning of a meeting and it not up and down with pledging and praying twice. >> Yeah because I I I agree with that. I think and I don't know

042I haven't dug into that particular policy but I was I have long been under the impression >> that the levy rate meeting had to be a separate piece >> yes >> by code because it adjourns >> that is my understanding but we will further investigate that too >> and then there is a separate um guideline on payment for those for the levy meetings in code, I believe. >> We'll have to double check that because I >> I think you get paid for one, but not like you have to come back >> because >> I believe the way it reads is that it's combined once you you open it and then you leave it open until you close it in April >> because we pause that one or recess. It's only one meeting even though it

043happens twice. >> And I don't care. I mean, I don't I don't mind getting up having prayer and pledging, but if you have three meetings in a night and you do that three separate times, I feel like once should suffice for that. So, I mean, if I mean, I don't care how we do it. If we want to put it all on one agenda and just call it like you just like you just explained, >> you you have separate areas on one agenda, that's fine with me as well. or if we do 18 A, 18 B, 18 C, that's fine with me as well. I just feel that they should not be numbered separate meetings like 21, 22, 23. >> And as much as I hate this excuse, it's just kind of how we always

044did it. And it has not previously created, and by previous I I will say in four years ago, it didn't. It has created more drama in the last two years. This confusion, >> right? >> I think it's because of the legislation change about the cap on the number of meetings and then it went to we can now have five that are like special like expulsion or whatever. And I feel like I'm in agreeance with the AB whatever, but I feel like those ones that we do have that are special like that, we probably do need to note that somehow. >> Yeah. >> Mark those S1 and S2 and S3. Uh >> it all comes down to the transparency and that's where >> rights when it comes to the meetings, the mileage, everything. >> Yeah. Like

04510 years ago, 12 years ago, when you had two or three meetings in a night, you got paid for two or three meetings in a night. Now everything's changed. Fine. It's not a problem at all. It's just went back and forth, back and forth. And it's like I don't even know what I don't know like I don't know at all what the meetings should be, if they're paid meetings, if they're not. I mean, I don't do this for the paycheck, but it's quite confusing. >> Yeah. >> To try to determine, you know, how it should be done anymore. And a lot of it is going back to what Mrs. Gallow said, the changes in policy or code. So, I think we just need to narrow it down and so that everybody understands like I mean

046I I have I had to ask a couple meetings ago. Okay. Are we what? Didn't I? >> So, just to kind of keep me straight. >> So, It just gets confusing and I think since we've had a lot of changes we just don't quite we're not quite I'm not lot some of us maybe not maybe all of us I don't know I'll just say I am not on board with how it's supposed to be done yet. It's my understanding there's a calendar a state calendar meeting on Thursday. We can investigate that as well. >> if it requires a separate >> such as your question with regard to or your question with regard to levy requirements or calendar etc. >> And obviously it's not just us that that are confused because we had two separate attorneys

047send emails giving us two different answers. >> How do you have that? >> Right. It's not just us >> and and what they did with the first time they legislated it and the second time they legislated it and when did that opinion come. >> Okay. So we are going to get some more information about what has to be separate, what can't be and at that point um we will decide whether we need to a it or just make it encompassing. everyone on board with waiting for the additional information to communicate that. >> Okay. >> And and I I'd agree with um Mr. Dowy that in the end at the end of the year it is about transparency to the public to say they had 60some meetings. Well, no, technically we didn't have come here 60some

048times, right? we came here >> because what that comes down to is the fiscal responsibility of what we're doing with their money >> their time. >> Yep. >> And that's what you got to look at. It's not about us. >> It's not about It's not about >> We're not here for the money. >> No. >> Half of you aren't even getting paid >> for you know it's about them. We got to figure it out. We got to get it right. >> Very good. Additional. >> Yes. Uh >> sir, >> tonight's meeting brought a little bit of concern. We had a virtual meeting and then a decided we had to have a regular in in person meeting uh because of inclement weather and because of the hill. we are on uh I would suggest that we

049put on our agenda at some point in the future uh a discussion of having board meetings in December, January and February at the Mary Battle Room or the ability to change to the Mary Battle Room in the case of inclement weather. Uh >> well >> the I some something like that so that the public could not have to come up this hill if they want to come. >> Oh, you're talking about the public. Okay. >> I'm not talking about the board members. I got a four-wheel drive. I'll get up the hill. >> Well, because if you were talking about the board members, I was like, you know, we're expecting our teachers to go on N days to the classrooms and >> I'm not coming I'm not coming to a board meeting when there's a little

050bit of snow out. That doesn't seem right to me. So, I'll be here unless there's two or three feet of snow might be questionable, but I'll be here. And I did jump the gun on that a little bit. Um, I know that we have done virtual meetings in the past when we were looking at there was going to be a lot of snow. The immediate answer in my mind was make this virtual because it's still accessible. If it's a team's meeting, then people can engage as necessary versus watching. Um, and given the time frame and the rollover, we were not able to do that. So, we stayed in person. Um, >> and if we're talking about the public being able to have access to us, I'm completely in support of whatever we have to do,

051>> right? >> If you needed to go virtual or not. But for me, for my for my situation, I feel like >> it's my responsibility to do all I can to be here. And we we were we're requiring a lot out of our staff on bad weather days now, too. So, I kind of feel like I can't I should I should do my part, right? But for the public, I get I get it. I I I'll be all supporting that. I think the other thing we have to keep in mind, though, is the technology because we have to live stream our meetings. I'm not sure when we change locations like that, if we have that same capabilities, >> that last minute capability, >> that's if it's not last minute, then >> you could just say

052all December, January, and February meetings would be at at a more desirable location like the Merry Battle. But I I I it's just a suggestion and food for thought and something to put on a future agenda for us to really discuss. But you know, the the thing is we we didn't get as much snow as we could have tonight so far. I don't know what it's done out there while we've been in here, but uh you know it it it's a consideration that that snow happens, >> right? >> And there will be out of the ordinary weather times like last Tuesday night was all ice. That's that >> that's different. I >> that didn't feel safe to anybody to me, >> right? >> But >> I I completely was on support and on board with

053that. So there will be those days >> it's not regarding inclement weather but I just wanted to I know Dr. Mr. Sings, you probably have not had time because of the week that we've had, but um I had asked at a previous meeting just about the locations of the AEDs um where those are and the number of staff and I know you were going to check on that. So, I didn't know you >> I was going to affirm what I thought to be the case. We have them for all the sports events and the locations and they miss uh Mrs. McCarthy helps monitor that to make sure all the batteries are updated and things are current. Uh I can get you a master list of th those locations should you if that's what more information

054you like. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Anything else for board member discuss for future board member discussion? All right. We'll move into the 9000 series future meetings. We now have a meeting February 10th at 5:30 at Flemington Elementary and at 6 o'clock at Flemington Elementary. Both February 10th, that's next Tuesday, followed by February 24th, March 10th, March 17th, and April 7th, all six o'clock, all here at the board office. Uh please know that March 17th is a levy meeting at six o'clock and and a regular meeting at 6:05. transparency on those numbers and their separate causes forthcoming. Any additional meetings that we need to look at? >> In fact, no. >> Okay. Um >> at this time. >> And we are um looking carefully. I see that we have a budget and personnel here on

055April 7th. Is there any other budgeting meetings that we need to schedule in terms of meeting our goal of three budget meetings before it gets has to be turned in? >> I I don't believe so. >> Okay. Okay. Great. In that case, >> let's just double check that >> we were we were just looking at we still have some scheduled already. >> Okay. All right. >> April 14th is also just now listed on this list right here. >> Okay, perfect. That's what I needed. All right, those are our future meetings. This was tonight's meeting. I will take a motion to adjurnn. >> Mr. Taylor moves. >> Mrs. Gallow seconds. Any objections? All those in favor? I thank you all for everything you do. Go home. Be safe. >> Time
