001I'd like to call this meeting to order. If you please stand for the pledge of allegiance. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Could I have a roll call, please? Madam Chair, we have a quorum. >> Do we have any adoptions or changes to the board agenda? >> We do not. >> Madam Chair, I would move we adopt the agenda as presented. >> Second. >> Any questions or comments? All those in favor? >> I. Anybody opposed? Same sign. Okay, moving on. Let's go to the consent agenda. >> Are there chair? I move that we approve the consent agenda from August 116 regulation 513 R1 district staff evaluation Any questions or comments?
002All those in favor? >> I. >> Anybody opposed? >> Okay, let's go on to the round table. >> All right, you're up, girls. Kelly, >> hi everybody. How are you guys today? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. That's really good. >> We're excited because we hear all the clanging. >> Yes, [laughter] of course. Yes. Um, so first we just have like a little video to play. It's like some of the photos and videos we took while we were in nationals. >> Awesome. >> And the flag. >> Oh no. >> Uhoh. Did we lose it? >> Try again later. So maybe at the end we can try it again. >> Okay. >> Hopefully. We're just gonna exit out of that for just a second. Okay. >> Oh, okay. So, we're just going to be talking
003about some of our experiences at nationals this year. So, >> I think my favorite part about nationals, >> sorry, is probably A couple of us went so the lights are glowing and it makes everything one more time. >> Sorry, we we refreshed it. We're going to try it one more time. [laughter] >> Thank you. [clears throat] From the dust of a dream, [music] you arise [singing] with a fire reflected in your every fall. [music] >> Put the heartbeating strong in your chest. You've been waiting for this. [music] Turn into light. In light. Let's [music and singing] ignite. This is the world that [music] the world will see. Unleash your power. Set [music] it fresh. Moment [music] your story. They can tell you [music] the odds say you are afraid. He said one day [music] you'll
004leave this world behind. [singing] So live a life you will [music] remember. My mother told me when I was just a child. [music] [singing] [music] >> [music] >> When something falling down, lighting fire, they can't put out carame. [singing] [music] From the dust of a dream, you will arise with a fire reflecting your [music and screaming] every fall, every scar, every test. Put the [music] heartbeating strong [singing] in your chest. You've been waiting for this all [music] your life. Turn the sun into light. Let's ignite. [music] [singing] This is the moment the world will see. Unleash your power. Set it free. [music] Glory. This is the ride your story. >> Thank you. That was great. >> Go ahead. >> So, this is my first year going to nationals. One of my favorite parts of actually
005people from everywhere. >> Yes. [clears throat] baseball game, but one of my favorite things. So I think watching >> I really like Me, too. >> Hi, I'm Austin Strickland. I am a state officer for Wyoming FCCLA. I'm the state vice president, vice president of competitive events. And while I didn't compete this year, I did something really exciting. I got to be a voting delegate for I got to be Wyoming's one and only voting delegate for the national officer team. So I got to um interview them. I got to ask them questions. I got to spend most and majority of the time at nationals with all of the state sorry national officer candidates. And it was a really great experience to see that it is something so important to people that they want to change it
006nationally. That was something so cool to me and it just showed me that you can be from a small place and still make a big impact. >> Awesome. >> Then I just want to say um Tessa is not here obviously, but she presented to you guys a couple weeks ago and we've just really been talking to her about like where to spend her time and um she just got back from we went to DC this weekend and she got back last night at like 2 in the morning and I was like, you know what? I think that this is one we could choose that we you know you have your uh >> Other priorities. Yes, we got this. So, >> thank you for supporting us. >> Thank you guys so much. We really do appreciate
007it. >> Um but it is very cool. Like not only are they school leaders, but we have state leaders, not just now state leaders, but we are leaders, which is just like really incredible for Robertson. So, we really appreciate you guys. >> Yeah. Well, >> thank you guys. We appreciate you guys. >> Can we come around and shake your hand? >> Sure. >> Great. >> Absolutely. say one of the things you will find is success breeds success. So >> you guys make our meeting so much fun. >> Thanks for being thank you for representing us. >> Thank you. >> We did right off the >> Nice job. >> You know it's it's good. It's it's okay. It's okay. >> Did you guys have any questions for us? >> Yes. We are open to questions. Well,
008just embrace every thing that you get to do because it changes who you are. >> Yeah. >> And thank you for your representation >> of our community and of of our of of our of everything here in Fremont County. You are very very important and you are the future of our community or maybe our our state, maybe the United States. We'll see. >> I see big things. >> Thank you so much. >> I'm proud of you all for expanding your footprint. That's pretty cool. It's really easy to get stuck in a rut, but it's >> it's scary and challenging to step out, but I'm proud of you for doing it. So, good job. >> Thank you. >> And navigating the metro and >> subway. Love that. Nobody thinks actually [laughter] [laughter] >> big. >> They're
009ginormous. Yeah, they're they're big. >> Yeah. They are big. >> They are. It is real. >> They're very well. >> I'm sure. [laughter] That's where they know where to hang out to dine. >> Thanks for surviving the rats and the >> That's right. >> You guys should write a book. >> Yep. >> Make notes and write a book because you'll want to remember these. >> You'll want to remember that experiences forever. >> Next year we're in San Antonio. >> Will be great. >> Summer. >> Oh yes. It's going to be nice and toasty July this next. >> It'll be very toasty because Tessa is a national officer. It means that I now work for the national committee. So I have to work it. So I'm gonna have to >> Well, we'll [laughter] be back. >>
010We'll be back. >> That's good. >> No, we >> we love to see your face. >> We do actually. You make the best of our board meetings. >> Thank you for the >> Yes. Thank you. about you. >> Thank you. >> Make it fly. >> No, [laughter] >> that's a lot of work. >> No, it is. >> Thanks, guys. >> Have a good evening. Thank you. Have a good night. >> Thanks, guys. >> Go get something to eat. Oh, we must be up Riverton High School looking ahead. >> You just should have seen me tonight. I did a chin up. It was amazing. Wait till she shares my picture. >> We have photographic proof. >> That would have been good to >> We have We have photographic proof. Awesome. [laughter] >> You didn't even take
011a picture. >> She didn't I don't think she was the same. >> It was excellent. We've got video proof. >> Picture proof. >> So, Reggie and I just wanted to talk through a couple things that we've been working on at the high school. um hoping to build out some new programs, resources, opportunities. Okay. Like so one of the things that we started working on was building out a pathway guide book. And I'm not going to get into it right now, but let you look at it. Essentially, what we did is we went through and listed all the pathways that are degree pathways that are at >> CWC. And then you're able to click on those and it'll take you to the actual pathway and you can see what is uh offered at RHS that we
012offer, what is offered as dual so they can take it through us and then where they would have to go through CWC to get those co coursework. So it's a pretty big document but it gives an idea for parents uh that are looking at hey I want my kid to possibly earn an associates or get close to earning an associates. what do we offer and then what can they take once they are at CWC, >> right? >> I like that. >> And then we also put together a counseling operations guide. One of the things that we as we were working, we noticed that there was just not always consistency with how we were doing things. And so by putting this together, we're making sure that if kids decide not to do halfway or whatever, they
013decide that we have an opt out. So, this is a place that they can go and [snorts] they can look at all the all the different things. We've got graduations. Here's our pathways. Like, all of our processes and procedures are in one place. So, if we get a new student that comes in in the middle of the year, well, how do we put in their credits that they earned from somewhere else? What does that look like? This gives it to them. So, it's just allowing consistency across the board that was just missing at different times with people that leave and come and go. So, we wanted So no matter what happens, there's a process in place. >> And do you start with this when they're freshman? >> Good. >> Great. >> Y >> um the
014other thing Reggie and I worked on today, we met with Wind River JobCore this morning. We are reviving ourou. We've had it with them. Um this will allow our kids to still maintain with us so that they can get a high school diploma because if they go to winter job, it they do pin and foster which is not recogned. in the state of Wyoming as a diploma. It would be a dropout for us. By working with them, it gives us the opportunity to send our kids up there. They have access to everything that they offer. They have access to breakfast, lunch, dinner. They can go there on weekends and go to the wreck and they can they take them to uh football games. They can go on those trips >> down football games. >> That's
015awesome. >> Yeah. And then um they also will give those kids um so much a week for like what they do working there. So they get some money there. They'll help with transportation. There's just a lot of opportunity that our kids would get. Mckin Vento if we have kids that uh don't have a place to stay, they can stay there and it's all inclusive. It doesn't cost them anything. And one good thing they brought up that I didn't know they do, they do PTO with their kids >> where they do PTO or unauthorized absences. So they learn what it's like to actually be in a job. >> That is super. That's great. >> Something I didn't know they did that we learned today. >> Yeah. And they will work with our kids. If a kid
016wants to go a week with us and we're getting them through, they're required and then they can go a week with them or we could do half days. They're they're willing to work with our kids on what works in their schedule so that they're still graduating. They're on an on-time graduate, but then they're walking away with m maybe a certification. >> That's awesome. >> That is really awesome. >> Uh the other thing that I have tasked our uh graduation coach coaches with is building out a scholarship spreadsheet. We have had uh and I a flyer of all the different scholarships that are offered. What this will offer as we are building it out, this is an older one, but we're getting there, is that it'll be by month and they can go in there and
017they can see what scholarships are available. The nice part is our kids can make a copy of this. They can go in and edit, take out the scholarships that don't pertain to them, and so they would have their own scholarship uh comprehensive list that they could go through and actually make it their own. >> And it'll save them time. >> Yes. And you can go across. It tells them right away just by looking at it'll give them the requirements, the link to the applica uh application. And if there's any notes, sometimes it'll say like uh we only submit one from RHS. So see your counselor before filling out the scholarship. >> Perfect. >> So it gives all that as well to them. And then the last thing before Reggie uh finishes up, internships. Um I
018have enlisted um one of our graduation coaches. I said, "Hey, I've been working with uh workforce services uh CAPS and also NextG on what we can offer um in our town for internships. Uh we just had a kid today that wanted he wants to do PT, so he's getting an internship with one of our PT offices right in town." And so she's going to work with supervision to make sure that they have their hours. um also will have a place where they can uh go in and say, "Hey, this is how this went for me and essentially give an evaluation of how they felt." And then also the employer giving them feedback and evaluation so our kids know what they're doing, how they're doing, and we have a we'll go in and check on them.
019This internship person will be able to go check on them, see if they're getting there doing all the things they're supposed to be doing, >> right? >> So, we're excited about what this will look like. It'll also connect to our student success plans and post-secary pathways which is also very exciting because that's a new chapter three requirement and we just want to make sure that every one of our kids starting their freshman year has a plan and that plan can change. We get that and we're okay with that but we would just want to make sure that they're thinking about it. >> Right. >> Awesome. >> Okay. So, the student success plans we are going to have empower school. That's where we're going to house it. So families will be able to see it, students
020will be able to see it, admin, teachers, counselors, and what they're going to do is once they are put in there, that powers school is going to track it. So you'll be able to see as they go across and complete courses, it will knock it off for them. It'll say this is how many they've done, this is how many more they need. And so that allows everything to be in one spot for us. It's going to show graduation, pathway, postsecary requirements, things of all that housed in one area so we can all see it on Power School. >> That's great. That is great. >> Awesome. >> Um, grade level family nights. We're having our first one Thursday. >> All right, >> Mr. Canrell. That's the one. Um, so we decided to have a ninth grade,
02110th grade, 11th grade, and 12th grade um, family night where they're going to come in and we sit down with the counselors, Miss Mills, myself, Mr. Mills, and we talk about what does that group need to know going forward. So for the freshmen that we identified Oh, you want to pull up the thing? So, we met today or yesterday and we talked about what do we want to um deliver to these parents. So, we're going to talk about Hathaway. We're going to talk about graduation requirements. We're going to talk about activities and athletics. We're going to talk about study skills and some characteristic characteristics that make freshman successful. >> What's the other one? The missing one. >> Uh pathway associates. >> Associate degree pathways. That's the other one. So, we're going to cover five things.
022We're going to start off with them as a whole. We're going to give them a quick little talk and then we're going to break out into sessions and we all have different sessions we're going to have for 15 minutes and they're going to rotate through those and we have them all in one wing so they don't have to get lost in the high school. We'll just take them down to that wing and we'll start everybody and we'll take them through each session. >> All right. >> And as you can see we have 10th grade September 1st, 11th grade is on the 15th. 12th on the 24th. So, we will report back >> and let you know how they went. >> That's really awesome. >> It's a great idea. >> I think it's excellent idea. >>
023Um, we're the Wolverine pathway spotlights. Um, students are going to explain why they select, what pathway they want to go on, why did they choose it. They're going to put it in their own words. Um, we're going to showcase concurrent enrollment, any type of um, certifications like IRC's, internships, any type of career experiences. and we're going to video these and get these out and publicize these. Um, it it's probably I think it's good to hear to put it out there so not only the community sees what we're doing, but other students see what their friends are doing or non-friend that they don't even know. What are they able to do in school that they might not even understand we have >> anything with that? >> No, that's okay. Um, future project interdisciplinary community learning. So,
024this last summer spring we went to a conference. It was the ride one up at CWC and we are stealing this from Cody High School. They have um they have a pathway for students to earn three credits in two class hours. So they have it's a science, a business, and a PE where they block schedule. So they're going to take the class first hour, second hour per se, and they're going to earn three credits throughout the year based off interdisciplinary. We have identified something that we want to do for our community. They we met with Mr. Esplin today at the Cody's high school principal and I kind of explained to him what we were thinking and he thought it was a great idea. It's something they're not doing. So, they're going to take that information
025that I gave and be like, "Yeah, we want to make ours more community oriented." Um, we did identify one. I'll tell it to you when we have more plans in place. I just don't want it to get out there yet. Um, but we are actually going to do it with our science. We're going to do it with our business and we're going to do it with our PE. So, it's going to include the biology of something. It's going to include the recreation of something and it's going to include the marketing of something. We've identified something in our town that we think we can as a school, our students can buy into and improve what we have. >> So, we're hoping to start that next year. We've identified three teachers. They've already started taking off and
026talking about it. Um, one of them's like, I know this person, this person, this person. I'm going to get a hold of them. So, we're starting the ball rolling with that. It will be a work in project, but we are going to constantly build it throughout the year. >> There's nothing wrong with R&D ripoff and duplicate. >> Well, nothing. >> We We are >> collaboration [laughter] >> and a little bit of collaboration there. >> That's great. Um, and by the way, with that, we are trying to find time to send the three teachers we've identified up to Cody to kind of look over what they do, find out what some of the pitfalls are, maybe get ideas on some different things that we might not be seeing, and then they come back and we continue
027to build it. >> Great. >> You guys have any questions for us? >> Three sentences up there. >> I like that. I think it's going to be great. >> I'm excited to see what happens. >> Yeah, we're excited. >> I just love the community outreach because I think there's so many people that don't know what we do, >> right? >> I I just remember having somebody on Facebook say, "We need to get back to the uh back to workforce preparation and those kinds of classes." And we have that and so try to invite them to the school to find things. But if we can go to the community and have that conversation with them, that's even better. So, thank you for >> that. Yeah, the communication piece is huge. We've talked about that a lot
028on the board and being able to, you know, just get that information out there and this is a great way to be able to do that. Um, I like the the scholarship spreadsheet, that whole piece there, because and I like the ability that they can build it for themselves. So then they that saves them time, saves their folks times with if their folks are, you know, in interacting with them and and they can get meet those deadlines easier and they'll know what's out there because sometimes I think that kids just don't know what's there. >> No, there's a lot of scholarships that kids would get purely for applying. >> Oh yeah. >> I mean that is honestly right and a lot of them are local, >> right? >> And they just need to apply, >>
029right? >> Yeah. So we just want to get that information out in a way where they can see it early. They application is. It's right. It's all in one place. >> Yep. That's I love that >> the scholarships, unless you know where to look, >> like some of them are impossible to find. >> Yeah, they are. >> Yeah, >> you get a lot locally. >> The idea trying to gauge how many kids are going to class. What's it like this semester? Are more kids? Is it sold by you and the college sign up. It's already done. >> Oh, for the college classes. >> Yes, the >> I got corrected today. We have to call it concurrent enrollment, not dual not. So, it's concurrent. Yes. In fact, I have signed >> I would love to tell
030you how many green sheets they're green sheets that come to me and I have to review to make sure there's no conflicts. I've signed Oh my gosh. I I don't know. I've signed a ton. I've signed my name more this because last year we were closing it up trying to juniors and seniors >> now. Yeah. >> And and we did open it up. >> Yeah. We have a few freshmen taking some courses. So, one of the things that Reggie and I have really been talking about is we want our seniors to be able to be out. So, pushing them the kids that are ready that want to be able to take um a government early um take a 1010. So, one of the things that we've been working is we are getting an application. We
031want to offer ACT in our building. >> So by being a testing site, our sophomores who are ready can take the ACT and our seniors who need a better score will have access right there. And then what we'll they'll be able to do is then be able to get into 1010 because it requires an ACT score. The nice part is that score is not extremely difficult. A lot of kids their sophomore year can get into the English portion. the math tends to be harder for the um college algebra, but a lot will score into that um 1010. And so that way they could get their 1010 in government completed their junior year. >> That opens them up. Most of our kids that can go through and just school really well can get all of their
032requirements for us done within their junior by the end of their junior year or close to it. That would allow them to get credits at the college going to the college. They don't have to their schedule and then obviously we can transcribe those >> and they can still be our kid but going to CWC >> or internships if they want that. >> My concern is not so much I mean it's it's a great opportunity >> but it's about funding >> and so I know we have their bill and 5.4 million that the legislature to He has power other to do concurrent I guess. >> Uh because that's what it is, you know. But uh I'm just wondering about heartbeat on that number, you know. Is it stronger than last year? Are you really pushing it?
033And is pushing it? How soon is that 5.4 going to disappear? And can it be So you get this base level >> planning for you know >> and then two years down the road we're back to the mill that CWC can as a you know we do have a half mill that we can >> prescribe but it's never been asked of us to do that could double that dollar that they and we just ordered students, >> right? >> So, always keep that in your >> back of your head as this goes because it's going to be every February unless there's some kind of mechanism that the legislature creates to sustain it, >> right? >> It's a finite dollar amount that they pumped in. And so, just always work with the CWC that keep sign. >>
034Yes. >> Because you get a freshman all excited about it and then they're seventh grade and then all of a sudden you got parents. What happened to this? That's that's important to always keep in mind. >> What an opportunity for kids. >> Yes. >> Absolutely. Completely. >> We're really excited. I think we've worked with a couple kids because our schedule is obviously different than CWC's. So, we've been working at building out um separate academic contracts for those kids because sometimes they have to leave our building like 10 15 minutes early to get up to CWC. And so, we've built out contracts with those kids so they know that they're still have to communicate with their teacher, get their work done. And it's our kids that are are hardworking kids that can maintain that. And it
035lets them know that you have to communicate. You got to balance. >> And so we're really trying to instill those instead of saying no, it doesn't work with our schedule. We're saying, okay, it doesn't work, but what can we ask of them >> and what can they do to be more towards that adulting, but still under our guise that we're going to support them and ensure that they're successful. So >> doing some just individual plans based on what kids want and what they need >> and it allows the trackability too. I mean that attendance piece and and you know ADM you want to be accurate with those those numbers and things like that as well. idea of setting a this is what I want to do and the pathways you know this terminology is 2000
0361999 2000 >> and so there was a point that that was a driven factor in eth grade >> and it's work intensive you know it's it's relationship intensive with the staff fulfilling that with each individual student. And that's the important piece that you really have to make work is your staff has to know these kids need process. They need to have this relationship and it's a one-on-one relationship. Each time you come up with a plan, somebody has to act as if they're listen to. I guess you could do it in a group, but it's not I like where you're you're inviting the parents to come and be a part of that education >> so that they can plan for the future for them to go through high school. That's great. >> So, with those family
037nights, can board members attend? >> I was going to ask, yeah, just get in and come, like I said, like Reggie mentioned, be about 15 minute sessions? We're going to have handouts. We just want to get them the information and then allow them to uh come back if they need to ask those questions, but get them the information. and hopefully the right information. They're not getting the incorrect information. And then they also know what resources we currently have. I think as you stated that they don't always know what we offered. And so saying like um our counselors were even getting on CWC. They have a great website where you can say, "Hey, I want to go into business. You can click on it. It'll tell you all the courses you need to take right there."
038And so just giving that to parents and letting them know. And other colleges also have that. So kids that want to take whatever credits they've earned and go to a different college, they can look to see and start matching that up and just educating our families on how that how they can do that. >> And that way they're not taking something that isn't going to transfer, right? >> Taking something that doesn't fit into what they want. >> We don't want just a bunch of credits. >> We want it to go towards something, >> right? >> Equity with the parents. >> It's huge. >> So that you got this families that really invested in the future. And then there's a large tier of families that know a little bit about how you can give them some
039kind of equity and understanding how to use how to access all this stuff at the family level rather than just depending on >> grow. Well, and by bringing parents in and we're hoping to also break down the if they had a bad experience in high school or hey, they don't know who we are. They come in and can meet us and that the face to face helps and hopefully it allows them to realize they can come in and talk to us. Maybe it does. >> They come in and they meet one of us and they're like, I feel comfortable with that person so I can I know I can go talk to great. That's what we want. >> And with our student success plans, our counselors are really meeting one-on-one with kids. It can't be
040in a group setting. It really is oneon one. >> And so that's something we've been really asking of them is meet with each kid, find out what they may be interested in. If that's going to job core, if that's getting a certificate, if that's going towards college, if that's getting out in the internship and get to work right away, >> we want to know and then we can say, "Excellent. Here's what we have to offer, >> right?" >> And then laying that out for them. So that's an important feature >> and building that relationship. So So if a kid gets out there and they're like, "Uh, that's not what I thought." >> Yeah. they feel comfortable enough to come in and say, "Hey, I need to make a change." Because that's hard for kids to
041do, too. >> It's hard to because they look at it as they made a mistake and it's not a mistake. That was perfect. You learned you didn't want to do that. Let's find something else >> early on before you That's where you spend a lot of money, >> right? >> Four years of college. >> Well, that happens more than Yes. >> Yeah. That that grows right along with whether you're in the job in the workforce or whether you're in college and being able to just advocate for themselves. That's that's great. Getting the families involved is >> that's a huge key. >> I mean, they're if the parents aren't excited about their kids going to school and whether it be job core or going to Harvard, um if the parents aren't excited about it, the kids
042>> Well, if you get the community and the kids involved, you know, then they understand the relevancy of what they're learning in their academic subjects. And for a lot of kids, I know that's that's how I was, that's huge because if you don't understand how you're going to use what you're learning, then it's sometimes it's harder to kind of make that shift and figure that out. So, it's just it's awesome. And so, >> I so many kids need that. Some kids are book learners, some kids are doers, and it's important. So, >> that flexibility that you were talking about with the class times, >> oh man, >> huge stellar because they can't get those classes, you know, they can't take that class at CWC if they can't be there on time. >> Well, like you
043said, building that support with their with their with their classroom teachers that are at the high school, that's huge, too, because they might be more comfortable with talking about talking to that classroom teacher than they are to a counselor. And like Reggie said, you know, I I feel comfortable talking to this person. This is where where they can go. And that just opens that relationship piece and lets them see that you know what, there is more than one person here that's caring about what I'm doing and what is offered to me. >> Well, thank you so much for that presentation. Please come back and let us know how things are going. >> Let us in on the secret. >> Yeah. >> All right. We're moving on to Frontier Academy. >> You can whisper. >> Sure.
044We all know where it should be. >> Oh, come on. Where is it? >> Right there. >> Okay. Mine's a lot shorter. And what I like is that uh Miss Jada asked us to, you know, five minutes for Reggie and Christina and five minutes for me. My response was Reggie gets nine. So, I think we'll be good on that. So, this will be pretty quick for you guys. I just wanted to touch base with you guys. We're for Frontier. We're um within the first three weeks we've uh started our discovery program and um there's been good things and some struggle, but um there's a lot of positives. You guys got to um kind of go through the building and see some of the changes that we've done in the sense of just cosmetically. Um, you
045know, we're still trying to take an elementary and turn it into an alternative high school and make it that welcoming piece. Um, so you got to see the artwork that we put on the floor. That was really nice working with maintenance on that sense. Um, the idea of that it, you know, we just had to think outside the box to how we can make that work. But then the next piece was is getting what we call um that large room. Sorry, there's no better name, but we call it mega room now. >> Mega room. [laughter] >> Okay. And um when we were in this room last April and we were going to through discovery, we were talking to the person that uh came and trained us and we're like how do you put all this
046together? Like tell us how you have it set up and they were like well we have one big room and then we started to think back when we were at Tonkan and I had asked to tear down walls there because we wanted one big room. Well, we get moved to where we were. We had ideas of making a big room, but it just didn't flow right. That room or that building just wasn't built for the size that we quickly became. And that I mean, we had it full within a semester. >> Yeah. >> And so when we had the opportunity to move down to Jackson, like, yes, we want that space, but as we took that, we started to see that we were becoming divided. And so working with Ed and the fire marshals and
047the electricians and uh HVAC and all that, we came up with the idea that you guys got to see tonight, which is now called Mega Room. Um it just allows the students and the teachers all to be in one room. there's no need to be out in the halls uh where they can go hide because now there's more space and when they truly do say I need to go talk to you know bunker to go get help uh with ELA it's not leaving the classroom so I believe we have a lot better uh supervision on that just with the way that's been set up so kudos to maintenance kudos to my custodian staff because it was a lot of hard work I got to see the trailer and then using wheelbarls and everything but it
048is a pretty cool project and if we do get approved to get remodel, I don't think it'll take much to kind of finish that, but it is a great addition to what we have for this year. Um, but these are the six weeks that we have for discovery. Uh, the ones that are underlined, those are the ones that we did the first and second week. Uh, we did team building. Uh, what we had there was a name game. If you want to see a lot of kids get angry, it's called the name game. And the directions for that is is every single kid needs to touch the ball, throw the ball, say your name, and say the person that you're throwing it to. Um, it's meant to be fun. It's meant for everybody to get
049uh to know one another. But then we put a time limit on it. And if you want to see frustration boil over with, you know, 15 to 18 to 20 year olds, uh, this is the game to do it because they take you lit. They don't take you literally. They're trying to find out. you're like making it too hard. And it was neat to see the kids grow because I remember doing it in this room and it took us an hour and a half to get through everyone with 25 kids. Just think of how us doing it with 50 kids. >> Wow. >> Um so it was good to see the frustration that was shown on the first day to where we are now. Um, some other things that we've done, I haven't posted. I'm
050waiting to get some more pictures together, is um, a game that it deals with following directions and it um, you take like a pole and having it go from just um, at your shoulder height all the way down to the floor and you have to have like 15 people doing that. And if you're not listening to one another, it also is an activity that becomes frustrating. Um, so it's been neat to go through that. Um but then it's also neat to see um the joys and the smiles of the kids. A game that we played another team building was human hungry hungry hippo um where we get scooters and it's neat to see in two weeks time you have I do have and it's awesome to work with u Max and coach Linhardt because I
051do have some football players and they wanted something just a little bit different but you see the athletic ones that want to be in sports uh the quiet ones. I do have some cowboys. I do have um some girls that are into music and such like that. But when you mix them up and at the end of two weeks, they're working together because they enjoy the competition. They see the commonality that they have with their classmates. Um this has all been face to face. Yes, there's still some egeneuity. Each uh within two weeks, those are the classes that we talked about last year. So they just earned within the first two weeks an elective um for what they've done face tof face all the projects that they can completed. These next two weeks the ones
052that we're in right now uh with effective communication and the assertiveness training that's going to be their English credit one of their English credits that they can earn during that time. right now. Uh today's project they did a test on uh their personality traits and it was really interesting to see how accurate it was and then having that discussion with students when um I said are you more of an introvert or an or an extrovert? And they're like okay I can see that. And then I was like so when you get in trouble do you sit back and observe or are you a little judgy? And they're like yeah Taylor I am a little judgy. Okay I get it. that's part of your personality. How can we work with this to make that into a
053true strength instead of driving kind of a divisive thing between you, your friends, and the rest of your classmates? So, it was a great u conversation that we had today. Um so, again, that'll be the next two weeks and then after that, we'll have another elective dealing with problem solving and conflict resolution. Um something that we got to do last night, um we had expectations. I was talking with Mr. uh Reggie back there, Mr. Miller. And we had the expectation of um during the first six weeks, students could not miss more than three days. And if they miss more than three days, Reggie said he would take them back. And he goes, "How close are we on kids?" And I said, "There's one that's kind of close." But out of the other 46 kids, we're
054doing phenomenal. And that comes to this. Right now, we're averaging about 92% attendance. And we have multiple days. Today was one of them that we had 100% attendance. So out of our I would say I think we've had 13 14 days almost half of them have been at 100%. The kids can do it if we set the expectation. So that has been a huge plus for us. That doesn't mean that we haven't been calling kids. It doesn't mean that we're getting them there maybe five minutes late, 10 minutes late, but at least it's not two hours like it's been in the past, right? >> So that's been a huge growth for us. So hopefully we can continue that. Um, like I've said before, we had um mega room. Um, the collaboration with the students going
055in, seeing the the joy seeing the kids going from one side of the room to the next, working in groups, getting mixed up has been a joy to see. Um, then the old library, we didn't change anything there. That is something that if we do get remodeled on I would like to make kind of a larger room uh so that we can do circle because even the library right now with 50ome uh students and staff is not big enough to do a circle where we can have connection circle every single day. And yes, we are doing it every single day right at 8 o'clock in the morning. and kids. Um the amount that we're getting for feedback, the communication, um being able to participate is quite nice. Uh so that change is huge and the
056kids are seeing it. They really are. Um and then uh the last thing that I have before I talk about uh the parent class that we're doing is um one of our things that I've had to do and I've had to use already is our three redirects. And um we've kind of walked our way through the process and if a staff member is needing to pull a student, they're trying to redirect them to see if they know what their problem is. Um whether it's something they that happened at home, whether it's something that is out of their control or they need additional help, they give a redirect. Hey, are you ready to go back to class? This is starting to become an issue. What can I do to help? I'm fine. I'm good. Okay, we
057go back to class. We do that on the third time. It's like, okay, you've lost that choice. Do you need to go to the counselor or are you willing to not make that choice and yes, it's your choice. And then that's when I get involved. And that's when I call parents and we go through a contract saying, "What is your problem? How can you solve it? You're going to come back tomorrow and we're going to have a discussion about it." And so far, the two times I've had to use it, I know it's only been the first three weeks. Parents have been very receptive on that. It's not really a suspension. It's called just a reset. And it's needed because when you get caught up in all the emotion that's happening out in the world,
058if you're not willing to take a step back, well, we're going to force it a little bit. And so, um, those few students that we've had to do have had a positive reaction towards that. Um, one of the other expectations was is to have, um, parent classes. I had my first one last night. No, I did not have 92%. >> But, um, I was just under 40% of my parents >> and that is huge. I was expecting six and um I had 18 multiple parents for 18 kids. Um so I felt that that was just um kudos for the kids because they understand the expectations that they're uh communicating at home. Um but then it was also an opportunity for those parents who might not have felt like they were heard to do um have
059that opportunity to talk to me um so that they can have that um excitement again >> because that's what a lot of kids um I was starting to hear from parents last night. They're just like they feel like they're excited again. They're enjoying it. So um that's really all I said or wanted to present to you guys. We have another parent meeting this next Monday and then we'll do it the Tuesday after uh Labor Day and then hopefully I don't need to send any students back. Um and then we get to keep all of them and then we'll have another opportunity. We got to discuss that because there are a lot of parents out there that are already hearing that they might need something different, but when can we bring in our next discovery class?
060>> So, I'll pass it on to you if you guys have any questions. It's exciting that you've had multiple days of 100%. Awesome. >> I mean, it's I can't think of I don't know if we even had that five times. >> So, >> great. >> Well, I like the expectation days and I and I am happy that Reggie is following up and and and you know, keeping that on track with you guys, too, because you're right. If you hold them accountable and you tell them what the expectations is or are, then they'll they'll meet it. They'll find a way to meet it if they if they choose to. and it's their choice to be there. And that's huge. It's that's life. It's in any job. It's in any family. It's it's something great. It's a
061great skill to learn. >> No, it's really nice because both uh Christina and Reggie, they put together kind of like a way for students that are interested in looking at change, whether that would be Frontier or whether that would be maybe Spur, >> um that they meet with counselors, they talk with them, they have a meeting with the family before. Yes, I could be getting that phone call, but then I'll just say this is the steps that we need to go through. So, it's consistent. Um, so it's been nice to have that as well. >> Thank you. >> Thanks a lot. [laughter] >> We're gonna move on to board members. Ally, you have anything? No, I don't this evening, but I am driving up to Jackson tomorrow, so I'm going to look out for Wolverines
062and maybe I'll take a picture. >> There you go. >> Perfect. >> I'll let you know. >> That's what I've >> just really quickly uh last a couple of weeks ago, we recognized some pace setters uh award winners from Riverton High School. Now that it's public, I would like to announce those um winners here. Uh from Riverton High School, we recognize Maya Nosep and River White Bloom as the pace winners. >> Maya is going to LC and River is gonna spend a year here at CWC before he transfers to UW. >> Nice. Great. >> Yay. Awesome. >> Hey, Christina. >> I do not have anything. >> Jody, >> I just wanted to say I enjoyed the tours. Um the floor is amazing. Um, I'm excited for the year. I've got to see the cheerleaders there.
063Love to have students here. Enjoyed your presentations. And I'm I'm excited. It's It seems like there's this there's a joy that I think that I'm seeing across the board in a lot of a lot of our staff and in our students and and and real excitement about this year. And that's that's really that's really awesome to see. So, and I just want to thank everybody for what they do. And I'd like to wish Lynette a happy birthday. She won't let me. >> She won't let me sing, but if you guys would like to. >> That's okay. [laughter] >> Thank you, >> Cantrell. [laughter] >> Terry, >> same thing. Everything was great tonight. So excited to have school starting and and some of the opportunities. Uh after our last meeting, I got to go to the
064boys and girls clubs debate for the governors and that was very incredible >> from kids from around the state came to hear to Riverton to the Boys and Girls Club >> and they were asking questions and and whatnot of the people running for governor. I thought that was a great learning experience. >> They were very very concerned about jobs in Wyoming. >> Yep. >> So that was something I learned and took away from there. And then later that night, we got up to the activities at the career center. That was great to hear all those presentations. >> And uh that's about my life for the last two weeks. >> Lori, >> and I just want to ditto what it's just really in so exciting to hear from all of our leaders, you know, for our
065kids and what you're doing with them and how you're working so hard to make make them successful and bringing our parents in. All of those things are so important for what we're doing in our school. And uh just getting the word out of of what we're what we're all about and what we're doing is that's just so important because I I think we're >> as much as we feel like we communicate sometimes I feel like we're still the best kept secret. And >> I just I just shake my head when people talk about certain things that aren't happening and I you know they're just not involved and you know so it's nice to see that uh communication with with folks as well and so I I appreciate that and the the uh FCCLA students that
066was so cool to see the presentation from them and how excited they were and just see those folks turning into more and uh turning into leaders and you know becoming more and more capable all the time. So that's it's just it was a good night and a good night to see the tour as well. So that's all I have. >> Okay, >> Jada, you have anything for me. >> Okay, >> Carl, it's your turn. You're up. >> Let's see. I drove to Casper today and did a student hearing with the activities association and I was so impressed by the conversation around the issue and the care that all everybody uh cared about the student and the families and the rules and and it it was it was quite a uh you know a growing experience.
067It was it was a a good meeting in something you really you know you don't really like to do, you know. Uh but it was it was invigorating. Um the tour of the uh frontier and the high school. Pretty cool. Yeah, I like the new floor. It looks really good. I'm excited to see uh volleyball uh start tomorrow at for practice, I guess. And is it next Friday? That's the Lander. >> Yes. >> The first game on that new floor. So, that's that's exciting. My I'll get to see uh hopefully I don't know when I'll get to see her, but she's a a freshman and she's a volleyball player and so gonna be excited to see her play. and the uh frontier I that big old room, you know, I can remember going to that
068room uh when they put first time I think I went to all three of those rooms was when we put in a uh sound system so that teachers could, >> you know, just speak in a normal voice and uh and that was quite a while ago. >> So, but it was it was great to see that big room. I and I can understand the family uh portion of that. That's that's a great idea. Uh and the initiatives from the high school that uh Reggie and and Christina talked about I think are you know it's a I said it, you know, the Judy Catchpole thing. >> These are things that keep occurring and they're real. that there are things that need to be done >> and they they start up and then they lose initiative. But
069keeping it up and just keep doing the same things are important because they are the things that I I do believe they are the ways to get families and kids and kids to look at their future. Uh it's it's important work and I appreciate you guys doing it. It was it was a great conversation. >> That's about it. >> Thank you, >> Bruce. >> I enjoyed the tour. Um I think that the community is going to be very excited about the floor in the gymnasium. >> Um and the bleachers even more so don't have to stumble up the stairs. >> That's it. >> Hey, Lynette. I um am pretty excited about those bleachers. You don't have to get at the top of them and wonder if it's gonna still be in one piece or you're
070all going to be on the gym floor. Um that was always my fear when I worked up there. Um it's exciting to see the changes in the gym floor. I remember when we redesigned it when I worked up there a [clears throat] year or seven 20ome ago now. >> How did that happen? >> Anyway, it's very exciting. I had a lot of time um behind the windshield this last weekend and to think about the the excitement that's always in the air this time of year around the start of school and u that's it's pretty pretty cool. We are very blessed to have the opportunities in this state for our kids and that we are able to offer those opportunities. So I think that that's pretty cool. I had a lot of discussion with different people
071when I was at our region meeting and yes, we're there to talk about garden club, but you always talk about other things and how blessed we are to have the funding model even though sometimes we're frustrated with it and the opportunities that we can give our kids that they can't in other places. We are the envy of the states around us. So, good job on everything. I love to see the Phoenix in the hallway. That looked really nice. Awesome. >> Um, it's just fun to hear all the new initiatives that you guys have going at the high school and um the new we get to see the the new weight room and the choir room and stuff at the middle school, too. And it's it's just exciting to have these opportunities. So, >> let's have
072a great year. Go Big Red. >> Yep. >> Okay. And I I think everybody's uh pretty much talked about everything that I would say, too, and we're going to move on. Okay. Do we have any visitors, delegations that want to say anything back there? Computers. >> Come on. You know you want to. >> All right. We're moving on to action items. >> Wait. September 8th is on a Tuesday. >> On a Tuesday. >> A Tuesday. >> September 8th. >> Put that on your agenda, your calendar. >> All right. Thank you very much. >> All right. We'll move on to action items. Consider an administrative recommendation to approve out of state travel request. Max Mills is recommending the board approve an outofstate travel request for the RHS football team to travel to Pocutello, Idaho for the
