Glad this just popped up. We're going to do it s technology for a second, but we'll think we'll be able to do this uh slideshow tonight for you that accompanies the rest of our award ceremony. I want to introduce myself. My name is Mark Banda. I am the principal of Brookfield High School.

002And it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2026 Brookfield High School Academic and Athletic Celebration of Excellence. This is truly one of my favorite evenings of the school year because it gives us an opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate our students extraordinary accomplishments. Tonight we recognize excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, service, the arts, and countless other contributions. I would like to extend a special welcome and thank you to our board of education members who might be here tonight. I apologize that light is right in my eyes, so you can I don't even know. Um, but also to our central office leadership. I know our new superintendent, Mr. Besie, was planning on stopping by at some point tonight, so he will be here eventually. Also want to thank my administrators who are here with

003us. Uh looks like I saw before I couldn't see. Uh Miss Abrao, Miss Shidy, Mr. Hill, Dr. Spencer, Mr. Baldwin, and Miss Galves. So, thank you for joining us here tonight, the six of you. I also want to recognize the individuals behind the scenes who worked to prep prepare for this event and are here now to ensure everything runs smoothly. You'll notice Mrs. Jennif is the one with the sweat dripping down her head because she was worried the technology would not work. But also joining her is Rosa Hopcraftoft and Mary Negri. Ceremonies like this do not happen by accident. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication and attention to detail. As we move through the program, scholarship providers here with us tonight will be invited to come forward uh when their awards are announced. Students,

004you're wondering, what do I do? When your name is announced, you're going to make your way to the front. We're not going to make you walk up and across the stage. I saw enough of that at National Honor Society and the heels and it it makes me worried about stability. So, I want to make sure everybody's safe. We're going to stay on the floor and walk across the front. You'll get your award and we'll take a picture in front of the banner. All right. We have an incredible amount of achievement to celebrate tonight. So, let's get started. Quick agenda. There's some people that wondered how we're going to do this tonight. Um, it reflects, this program tonight reflects many ways we celebrate excellence. Uh, after the pledge, we're going to recognize department scholars and the

005Connecticut Seal of Biiteracy. We'll then honor presidential award recipients and outstanding underclassmen. And then we're going to present members of the class of 2026 with various awards for their athletic and academic achievements. These students represent the very best of their respective disciplines and will proudly wear their department scholar pins during graduation later this month. Please join me in recognizing our department scholars from the class of 2026. The English department scholar is a student whose appreciation for language, literature, critical thinking, and communication has distinguished her throughout her high school career. Congratulations to Susanna Bat. THE SOCIAL studies department scholar has demonstrated a deep understanding of history, culture, government, and the world around her while consistently challenging herself to think critically about the past and present. Congratulations to Charlotte as a member of the softball team as they prepare to head into states. You'll see several students dressed in their softball

007gear today. So, we'll give them an excuse because they're ready to make a run for the state championship. on the visual arts. Creativity allows us to see the world differently and to share ideas in ways that inspire others. Congratulations to our visual arts department scholar, Talia Jonas. This student has demonstrated extraordinary dedication, creativity, and artistic achievement while making a lasting impact on our fine arts program. Congratulations to Sophia Canton. Innovation, problem solving, and real world application of knowledge are at the heart of a career technical education. We are proud to congratulate tonight Ava Labour. That first thing you see that comes off her finger is the new state championship rings for the girls cheerleading team. 008Anaki. Curiosity is the foundation of discovery and this student has consistently embraced the scientific process through exploration, inquiry, and achievement. Congratulations to the science department scholar, Emily Erson. Emily, don't go far. Stay right there. Here's why. Physical education is about more than athletic ability. It reflects dedication, discipline, wellness, and personal growth. Let's give another set of congratulations once again to Emily. Moving on to world language. Learning another language opens doors to new cultures, new perspectives, and new opportunities. This year, we congratulate our world language department scholar, McKenzie Elon. We now turn our attention to an impressive academic distinction, one that recognizes a student's diversity in so many ways. The Connecticut Seal of Biiteracy recognizes students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language. In today's interconnected world,

009multilingu linguism is far from an academic is far more than an academic accomplishment. It reflects adaptability, cultural awareness, perseverance, and the ability to build bridges between people and communities. These students have invested years developing a skill that will serve them throughout college, their careers, and their lives. Please join me in recognizing our recipients of the Connecticut Seal of Biiteracy. What I'll do is introduce uh the categories of the different languages that these students earned their seals of biiteracy. First up in French, Portuguese and English, Alexander Lopes, who is not here. Up next, another three language student here. We have someone who got it in Ukrainian, Russian, and English. This award recognizes students whose academic performance places them among the highest achieving members of the graduating class. Their accomplishments reflect years of hard work, determination, perseverance, and a commitment to learning that extends well beyond the classroom. As I call your name, please come forward, receive your certificate, and remain at the front of the stage for a group photograph. While many of tonight's recognitions will focus on the class of 2026, it is equally important that we celebrate the accomplishments of younger students who are already making their mark on Brookfield High School. These next awards recognize excellence and serve as a reminder that excellence does not develop overnight. It is cultivated over time through dedication, hard work, and a commitment to growth. We'll start with college book awards that are sponsored by some of the nation's most respected colleges and universities. These institutions, thanks,

015JJ. These institutions seek students who excel academically and demonstrate leadership, character, service, and a commitment to improving the world around them. Each recipient was nominated by Brookfield High School faculty and staff with selections made by administrative team. First up is the Bowden College Book Award. Bowden College seeks students who combine intellectual curiosity with a commitment to serving others and improving their communities. This award recognizes a student who exemplifies those qualities through academic achievement, innovating thinking, and leadership. This year's recipient is GRETCHEN JAMES. IF ANYBODY knew Gretchen, she is so red right now. Congratulations, Gretchen. The Brandeise University Book Award honors the students whose academic accomplishments are matched by a commitment to civic engagement, social responsibility, and community involvement. So, um, buckle up. Up next is the Brown University Book Award. So great communicators have the ability to inform, inspire, and lead. The Brown University Book Award recognizes a student whose written and verbal communication skills distinguish her among her peers. Congratulations to Payton Lancaster. Up next is the Columbia University Book Award. Columbia University recognizes a student whose commitment to academic excellence and intellectual growth has set her apart from her classmates. Yes, you can put this on your college resume. LUCY SHERIDAN The Cornell spirit is defined by scholarship, citizenship, innovation, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. This award celebrates a student who embodies those values.

Dartmouth College is proud to recognize the just recently minted 200 meter class doublem girls champion McKenzie Gray. I can say that cuz she's not Endeott College Book Prize. Academic achievement, leadership, and engaged citizenship define the recipient of the Endicott College Book Award. This year, we are proud to give the award to Natalie Broadhurst. Up next is the Harvard Book Award. The Harvard Book Award honors the students whose academic accomplishments, character, and involvement beyond the classroom distinguish her among her peers. It is our pleasure to recognize tonight Maria Andrade Perugan. This award celebrates the most regarded characteristics of a John Hopkins student. Intellectual curiosity, strength of character, and a desire to make meaningful contributions to society.

The Brookfield High School PTO Persistence and Grit Award recognizes students who cons consistently demonstrate these qualities. Each recipient will receive a copy of Angela Duck Works Book B book, The Power of Passion and Perseverance along with a gift card. For more than 70 years, the Society of Women Engineers has encouraged young women to pursue careers in engineering, mathematics, science, and technology. This award recognizes two students who accomp whose accomplishments in mathematics and natural sciences have distinguished them among their peers. Congratulations to our two students tonight, Julia Feliz and Anna Martino Ramos. You notice the slide change while there's still university on there. You'll see that it now says class of 2027 scholarships because the majority of these do have a uh monetary connection should the student choose to go to the university. So these awards represent both recognition and achievement today and investment in future success. First up is the Alfred University

021Scholarship Award. Alfred University recognizes a student whose talent, potential and future aspirations make her deserving of this significant opportunity. If she's if she enrolls in Alfred School of Art and Design, Biomeaterials Engineering, or any other material science or engineering programs, she will receive a $30,000 a year scholarship. Congratulations to Kayla Flanigan. Leadership is not measured by titles, but by influence, character, and the ability to inspire others. Seems to be a popular number tonight that a $30,000 renewable annual scholarship will be awarded to the student should she choose to attend Clarks University. Congratulations to the winner of this year's Clarkson Leadership Award, Emerson Ross. >> Moving on to another award from Clarkson, the achievement award. They're also pleased to offer a $30,000 renewable annual scholarship if this student demonstrates outstanding who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement chooses

High Point University recognizes four students whose academic excellence, leadership, and involvement have distinguished them within their school community. Each winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship for each of their four years at the university should they choose to leverage their non-binding early acceptance. Oh, good. You're here. For over 160 years, Worcester Polytechnic Institute has shaped the next generation of STEM leaders, and they proudly continue this tradition with their WPI Innovation Award. This award includes a $25,000 annual scholarship to a high school junior who demonstrates outstanding potential in STEM fields. Congratulations go to Eva Ilas. For more than a century, the Relair Medal has recognized exceptional achievement in mathematics and science. This prestigious honor celebrates both accomplishment and future potential with a $40,000 a year scholarship if the student is accepted and enrolls at Renelier. Congratulations to Shria K. We now move on to the Rochester section of the program. Several awards from Rochester

024Institute of Technology. They choose to recognize students who achievements suggest extraordinary promise in a variety of academic disciplines. Each of the RIT award recipients are eligible for over the course of four years a total of $116,000 over four years. First up is the science and math award given to a student who displays curiosity and analytical thinking to drive scientific discovery and mathematical innovation. Congratulations go to Keegan Blen. The RIT Computing Award goes to a student demonstrating an interest and aptitude in computing. Technology continues to shape our world and this future innovator asks what is possible. Congratulations to Christy talk. This student knows that leadership and entrepreneurship require vision, initiative, and the confidence to turn ideas into action. This is why she was chosen for the RIT business and leadership award. Congratulations to Gabriella Kernos. This

025student has excelled in the humanities and social sciences, recognizing that they help us better understand people, communities, and the world around us. The winner of the RIT Humanities and Social Sciences Award is Lauren Batista Uran. Still on Rochester, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Engineering, and Technology Award is presented to a junior who sees challenges at opportunities and solutions waiting to be discovered. Congratulations go to Britney Corey. The last of the RIT awards, the Art and Design Award, is presented to a student who has demonstrated that creativity has the power to inspire, challenge, and transform. Congratulations to this year's recipient, Skyler King. Communities grow stronger because individuals choose to invest their time, talents, and energy in service to others. The St. Michael's College Award for Community Engagement recognized students who have demonstrated a sincere commitment to

026service, justice, compassion, and leadership with consideration for a full tuition scholarship to their school. Congratulations go to Andrew Bomb and Scarlet. And to the University of Rochester section, not to be outdone. The University of Rochester recognizes four students based on their achievement in different disciplines. Each award recipient is eligible for a $5,000 merit scholarship should they be accepted and attend the university. The Bosch Lama Honorary Service Award is presented to a student who has shown that scientific discovery begins with curiosity and grows through hard work, persistence, and a commitment to learning. Congratulations to Anastasia F. >> The Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award is named after two individuals whose lives changed the course of American history. The University of Rochester recognizes the students outstanding achievement in the humanities and social sciences. Congratulations go to

The George Eastman Young Leaders Award goes to a student who is known to others as a leader in the community. Congratulations to Cameron Johnson. The University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology is presented to a student whose commitment to innovation begins with curiosity. capacity and the courage to think differently. Congratulations go to Gyron Lake. This award recognizes students who understand that meaningful change begins with action. Across the nation, students participating in this program contributed more than 2.3 million hours of service, generating an estimated 78 million in community impact. This student has demonstrated a commitment to helping others and making a difference in

028her community and has been awarded both the United Nations Association USA Community Service Award and the Serve Connecticut Community Impact Award. Big congratulations goes out to Allison Tran. the SWC Unified Leadership Award. Unified Sports represents the very best of inclusion, teamwork, acceptance, and leadership. The Southwest Conference Unified Leadership Award recognizes a partner who has made exceptional contributions to both Brookfield High School and unified sports throughout the conference. Congratulations go to Brian Barry. The CIA Unified Sports Award celebrates an athlete whose commitment to inclusion, leadership, and teamwork has strengthened both Brookfield High School and the statewide unified sports program. Congratulations to Cameron Johnson. All right, everybody, take a deep breath. This concludes our recognition of our outstanding underclass. We now turn our attention to a group of students who achievements whose achievements extend well beyond the

029classroom. Throughout their time at Brookfield High School, these seniors have represented our school with pride, determination, and commitment. They've learned how to lead, how to persevere, how to compete with integrity, and how to support something larger than themselves. Athletics teach lessons that extend far beyond the scoreboard. They teach discipline, resilience, accountability, teamwork, and leadership. The students we honor tonight have embraced those lessons and have helped strengthen the culture of Brookfield High School athletics. Please join me in celebrating the athletic accomplishments of the class of 2026. So, as I start to hand out these awards, I'm going to point bring your attention to the top right corner of this particular slide where you see the logo Chick-fil-A. And I want to recognize someone who generously has helped create many of the opportunities we celebrate this evening.

030Brookfield High School graduate Devon Scandlin has remained a tremendous supporter of our students, athletic programs, and our community. As a local Chick-fil-A owner and operator, she has helped provide scholarships that recognize excellence both on and off the field. Her commitment to giving back reflects the very spirit of teamwork and community that these awards celebrate. Please join me in thanking Devon Scandlin and Chick-fil-A for their continued support of Brookfield High School. Leadership is not measured by statistics or championships alone. The most influential leaders set the standard every day through preparation, accountability, resilience, and the example they provide to teammates. The Southwest Conference Leadership Award recognizes student athletes who have distinguished themselves both on and off the field of play. These two exceptional students were recognized on May 28th for their outstanding dedication and volunteer service to the mission and values of CIS cast CIA. Their passion for supporting and uplifting student voices across Connecticut alongside their exemplary exemplary leadership is deeply inspiring. They participate widely, lead naturally, serve willingly, and consistently represent their school with integrity. The

THE BEST TEAMMATES ARE OFTEN THE people who never seek recognition. They encourage others, celebrate the success of those around them, support teammates through adversity, and consistently place the team above themselves. The Bobcat Ultimate Teamate Award recognizes student athletes who embody the very best qualities of teamwork and sportsmanship. Congratulations to this year's winners, Kayla Fulchetti and Wavo Nami. For more than four decades, the Army Reserve Scholar Athlete Award has recognized students who demonstrate excellence in both academics and athletics. This award celebrates discipline, determination, leadership, and commitment. Qualities that serve individuals well both during competition and throughout life. These are individuals who inspire others through both their actions and their example. Congratulations to this year's winners, Charlotte Warlock and Tristan. Every school has traditions that become part of its identity. At Brookfield High School, one of those traditions is celebrating the rare student athletes who dedicate themselves to competition throughout all three athletic seasons. The Cindy Adamsky Award honors seniors whose commitment to athletics spans the entire school year. Their dedication requires countless hours of practice, sacrifice, and perseverance. More importantly, reflects a genuine love for competition and a deep commitment to representing Brookfield High School. Congratulations go out to Leah Shaw and Landon Wall. Leadership is easiest when circumstances are favorable. True leadership reveals itself during difficult moments. When adversity strikes, when expectations rise,

034and when others are looking for someone to follow. Named in honor of former coach and educator Robert Brown, this award recognizes a exemplify leadership, integrity, passion, and respect. Congratulations to Emily Urgson and Chase Sils. Long after scores are forgotten and championships made into memory, people remember how athletes conducted themselves. Named in honor of former principal and coach Frank Gavl, this award recognizes student athletes who demonstrate respect, humility, leadership, and sportsmanship in every setting. These individuals represent the very best of Brookfield athletics and serve as role models for younger athletes who will follow in their footsteps. We have three students to provide this award to tonight. Those three are Juliet Pont, Cameron Nimzinger, Anel Hajinastto, Successful teams are built on commitment, consistency, and trust. The Brian Reef Swim and Dive Scholarship recognizes a swimmer who has

Chuck believes strongly the value of community service and the mission of scouting. This welldeserving recipient has been a scout for over 10 years, earning ranks, experiencing high adventure, and serving his troop in various leadership roles. His Eagle Scout project provided a muchneeded replacement fence for a local food pantry, along with several other enhancements. His scout experiences have enabled him to develop leadership skills and demonstrate his strong commitment to community, which he will carry forward as he pursues a career in medicine. Some scholarships honor achievement, others honor legacy. This scholarship does both. On July 6, 2007, a 30-year-old Navy Seal, Petty Officer, First Class Jason D. Lewis, was part of a joint task force operation in Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lewis made the ultimate sacrifice that day when he was mortally wounded while bravely exposing himself to enemy fire to secure his team. an act of heroism that earned him the Bronze Star Medal with a V device for valance. As a Navy Seal, Lewis dedicated his life to serving something greater than himself. His courage, selflessness, and commitment to others continue to inspire all who learned his story.
