001in uh good morning and thank you for taking the time to uh to make this meeting today I hope everybody's having a great summer I look forward to seeing everybody in August when we have uh our regular schedule meeting again so um so I'm going to call this meeting to order at uh 7 uh at 8:30 uh this is a camp board of education special meeting uh that we're having and the agenda has been posted and the uh and the purpose of this meeting is to review and approve the special board Education meeting dates so just by way of a small uh explanation um this is an oversight by me we were supposed to post our meeting dates before January 31st by Statute uh and that's primarily because uh the state operates under foi actually
002operates under a calendar year uh we operate under a fiscal year so we thought we had the time to do that so by me missing that date um the the remaining dates for this year uh 2024 have to be special meeting dates so um Claudia was nice enough to put together a great uh list of Board of Education meeting dates that you have for the rest of the year and you see that we have also have the subcommittee meetings but for this particular meeting uh because of the uh the Miss of that date the rest of our meetings are considered special meeting dates so um we have to approve those special meeting dates which are you have I think in your packet which September 5th uh which is our board retreat uh September 10th which
003would be a regular meeting October 8th uh which is our October meeting regular meeting November 12th this is regular meeting and then December 10th which is a regular meeting and then of course we'll file in January our regular meeting dates uh for 25 uh 26 I guess it is yeah 25 26 man the years are going by you can tell by the color of my hair so um so any questions on why we're having this meeting can can I answer any questions concerns issues just when you're saying regular meeting you you there's still a special meeting you just mean it's our regular time we would meet correct correct that would be our regular meeting thank you for the clarification yeah so these these are all special meetings but the September 10th is typically our regular
004meeting October 8th is our regular meeting November 12th a regular meeting for the purpose of the public these will all be listed as special special meetings it's a little bit semantics but it's uh what we have to do according to town attorney Luke can I just jump in a little bit sure please um twofold um number one good to see everyone uh number two regarding this special meetings the the the big difference that we learned is that once the agenda is set for that night um or that meeting the the agenda is set that we can't add anything to the agenda um that that is the only difference between a special meeting and uh a a regular Board of AD meeting is a regular meeting is the flexibility to add agenda items and if there
005was an emergency situation we would have to uh post for special we've also listed down the other ones that you are approving is also the subcommittee meetings that would be in um special meetings also relative to the uh finance committee the the the policy committee all those four or five dates you're also uh approving and then we'll come back each November we'll come back um even though there's not a board policy anymore that says that you have to approve the the the meetings by State Statute Claudia needs to file the meetings by um January so we'll just put a pattern in so that that this doesn't it's been happening for years um that this pattern just that the board just gets in a pattern of approving the the meetings in November you'll also notice a
006change that the Board of Education meetings will start at 6:30 hopefully that is good for everyone and that uh finance committee meetings would start at 8:30 um p.m. I don't know Lou if he want Happ discussion relative to that yeah uh so we just uh We've added uh Jordan on to uh to the finance committee meeting so we've we've kicked it out an extra half hour and because we now meet at 6:30 p.m. we've pushed back uh we've actually I guess that's not push back we've uh brought the policy meeting to 5 o'clock versus 5:30 so uh just just a small change uh we we thought that these times would work best and get everybody home soon sooner you're less tired you grab something to eat at home and you just come to the meeting
007rather than hanging hanging out waiting for the next uh waiting for the meeting to happen and and again Claudia was nice enough everybody should uh have the uh the meeting dates and of course the first 1 two 345 uh and for Board of Education meetings are special you'll see the special meetings are all by aspis on my sheet it says Board of Finance 8:30 a.m. correct oh you said p.m. that's why oh border of I'm sorry we wouldn't meet at p.m it's 8:30 a.m. 8:30 a.m. okay 8 Finance meets at 8:30 a. the day of our meeting and we are still on the same ones that we were last year committees yes we have not changed any of your assignments okay the only addition is is Jordan to um policy and to uh Finance okay
