At this time, I invite all who are able to stand and join us in the singing of our national anthem. The student receiving this year's award for special achievement in the visual arts has shown an exceptional level of dedication, creativity, and perseverance throughout his time at CHS. He has worked tirelessly to strengthen and refine his skills, always pushing himself to grow as an artist and thinker. His consistent effort, meticulous craftsmanship, and thoughtful approach to each assignment speaks volumes about his character
and drive to achieve at the highest level. He was a mediocre ceramics one student if I'm being honest, but then began asking me qualifying questions and speaking the names of ceramic artists that only someone with a true potter's mind would know. Names like Vulcas, Hammeda, and Leech to name a few, the likes of which that none of you know either. This is when I knew that this student was not going to be my average ceramic student. instead the beginning of a teacher student relationship that only few teachers have the privilege to experience. In my advanced ceramics class, he began talking to me about books he was reading, life stories and philosophies of potters from nearly a hundred years ago. The very books and potters that I once researched as a hungry for knowledge young artist.
And I began to see that same drive and insatiable curiosity in this student. After taking all of my ceramics classes, he then came to me wanting to do an independent study where he listened closely, practiced with intention, and grew to become the potter, a potter in his own right, having synthesized all the knowledge he's absorbed and yielded his own personal style. I have all the confidence that he is on the path. He is on a path continue of continued success in the fall as he embarks on his next chapter. After a summer working at the hole-in-the-wall gang camp, he'll be pursuing a degree in education at Southern Connecticut State University. His creativity, unique way of thinking, and motivation will serve him well in college and beyond. It's my absolute pleasure to congratulate Graham Wayne as

Working with this student during their time at CHS has been a joy, and I am proud to see the leader that they have become. So, I am pleased to present this award to Matthew Watson.
[applause] >> [applause] [applause] >> The orchestra award is given annually to a senior orchestra member who has shown outstanding talent, dedication, leadership, and passion in music as well as contributes to a positive environment within our ensemble. The student receiving this award has demonstrated an outstanding dedication and care for the Cheshire High School orchestra. Throughout that process, tonight's recipient has been integral to fostering a welcoming community and a culture of growth while also tirelessly working on developing their own skills as a musician. Anytime there is an opportunity to perform in an optional small ensemble or to help someone else with a problem, this student readily volunteers. It has been an absolute pleasure to

The award for excellence in Spanish goes to Susita. [applause] >> [applause] >> At this time, I would like to introduce to you Mr. Tom Lee Walk, the chairperson of the career and technical education department. [applause] Good evening everyone. I'm honored to present four awards this evening. And overall, no one can argue that
all the students sitting in this room are staying out in the classroom, the playing fields in the community of Chester at large. But for career and technical education, we want to recognize students that demonstrate something different, something in terms of creativity and problem solving. The epitome of what Chester Public Schools is teaching the classrooms we get to have fun with every day. We like that drive when solutions don't work out. When the math makes sense on paper and the concepts are there, but it doesn't work out. And time and time again, we see those students who strive to go above and beyond, to think outside the box, to make different choices, different thinking, different ways of trying to solve problems. For our first recipient tonight, I'd like to recognize a person for a technology education
award who has done just that in the classroom. She has come across many times when the math makes sense and the concept makes sense but it didn't work. Instead of giving up, she has striven and worked with her peers and educated her peers and supported her class to go to that next step to look at things outside the box to challenge her own thinking and to apply new concepts to what's already there. I'd like to recognize our first technology education board tonight to Leah Dale. [applause] >> [applause] >> I have a distinct honor of working for a department, a manual department where we have many different attributes of of learning and application to the real world. from the engineering perspectives to also to the family consumer science perspectives. So for our next award, I'd like
to recognize a student who all CT teachers weren't from agreement in the classroom with both her teachers as well as her peers. She's a phenomenal standout and a supporter. Her excellence in every single class she has taken is only that much amplified of how much she has humility and support for her peers. She wants everybody to succeed together. The student excelled with every single thing you put at her, from culinary events to catering to managing classes to filling in gaps to working with things that change at last minute. Her communication skills and her handle of the classroom tasks are above and beyond. She has a commitment to personal growth. She has a positive attitude towards learning and she's handled major events and last minute changes with style and grace. Academically, she has a pretty clear
picture of her future and actively works towards seeking her goals. For our failing consumer science award, I'd like to recognize Michelle Buer. [applause] [applause] Our next award goes to a junior for the University of Rochester Xerox Award. We'd like to dedicate a person who has striven to exemplify innovation in technology. Our team chose a person that exemplified this criteria and hands down across the board, everyone thought this gentleman was a phenomenal standout in the classroom and all around great person. They have an incredible attention to detail. They're always looking to improve their skills and help those around them. He has mastered many components of technology and always put forth that mindset to seek new information, to always learn, to never stop learning. Even with mastery, there's always a chance of looking at something differently. We
hope that he takes his education beyond to next year and supports the rest of his class. We are honored for the time he's put into the Chester public schools as a junior and hope to see even more from him next year. And for that, we'd like to recognize this year's Xerox Innovation and Technology recipient, David Chen. [applause] [applause] Finally, on behalf of our yearbook adviser, Mr. Varsquez, I'd like to present the CHS yearbook award. The yearbook is a timestamp for all the seniors to recognize their time here at CHS. It's a part of our community. It's a part of the history here. It's a part of a snapshot from all the events that you guys experienced from September through June. There's a lot of work that goes into that. There's a lot of focus and
attention and energy. Throughout this past year, the student receiving this award has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication. They quietly behind the scenes guided their class. They guided their teacher. They guided the production of something that's going to be lasting for the test of time for Trish public schools. They also had that ability to lead without a change in their character. Whether it was a small error or a big error, a great pat on the back or great thanks across the board, this student leader handled each task with both grace and determination. This award recognizes their outstanding contribution and commitment to making the yearbook a reality. This year's yearbook recipient is Leah Par. [applause] On behalf of the career in technical education, I'd like to wish everyone here tonight congratulations with all the awards and scholarships.
We look forward to what you all are going to do in the years ahead. Next, I'd like to introduce our math department leader, Mrs. Liz Garcia Davis. [applause] All right. It is my pleasure tonight to give the math department award to somebody who's truly excelled in mathematics in her time here at Cheshure High School. She exemplifies the standards of hard work, determination, and a passion for problem solving. Whether tackling complex concepts or helping others succeed, she has demonstrated both academic talent and ex outstanding character. Beyond earning outstanding grades, she consistently approached challenges with determination and a genuine passion for learning. Her ability to think critically, persevere through challenges, and consistently strive for excellence has made a lasting impression on both teachers and classmates. We are proud to honor Tylie Wallace with the mathematics [applause] >>
[applause] [applause] >> Uh, and I am proud to introduce Miss Julie Barker for science. [applause] Good evening everyone. and I'm so glad to be able to join you here tonight to celebrate the wonderful achievements of this great class of 2026. Um, tonight we have three awards from the science department. The first is the Fred Willitz Award. The Fred Willlets Award is presented in memory of a beloved high school science teacher and this award honors students in their first years of chemistry who has shown the qualities that Fred prize so highly. excellence in the study of chemistry, broad intellectual curiosity, and a promise of future growth. This year's recipient's chemistry teacher shared, "This student is an exceptional critical thinker who consistently approaches challenges with curiosity and creativity. Rather than relying on a single problem-solving method, he
eagerly explores different paths and ask thoughtful questions that extend far beyond the curriculum. He has a deep interest in the physical science and tremendous potential in this field. Please join me in congratulating this year's Fred Willitz Award recipient, Jack Mooney. [applause] >> [applause] >> The Bos Shalom Award is presented to a member of the junior class in recognition for outstanding academic achievement and good character and superior intellectual promise in the field of science. When asked about this year's recipient, Mr. Alexis shared that he is one of the best students he has ever had the privilege to teach. Not only because of his exceptional academic ability, but because of his impeccable character. His discipline, focus, and commitment to excellence consistently set him apart. More than that, his positive presence and natural leadership help create a classroom
community where others feel supported, included, and motivated to succeed. Please join me in recognizing this year's recipient of the Boschan Lom Science Award, Noah Roert. [applause] Class of 2026, now it's your turn. The senior science award is presented to the senior student who has displayed a continuing interest in the pursuit of science and has maintained a superior academic record throughout his or her high school career. I first met this student four years ago when she was just a freshman already taking the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair and the Connecticut Invention Convention by storm. Since then, her resume has read less like a high school students and more like a high-tech superhero. When we recognized her last year for the Bowshin Lama Award, she had already published a paper on Alzheimer's research and designed an airline
seat belt alert system. But she didn't stop there. This year, understanding the limitations of current treatments for tool syndrome firsthand, she went right back to work. She wrote and published a paper, a wearable technology for toric treatment. Honestly, it's the kind of project you'd expect from a full-time research team at a medical device company, not someone who has to worry about high school and AP exams. Beyond her brilliant research, she spends her time inspiring everyone around her. She promoted equity in the in STEM globally through the prestigious tech girls program and she has been the backbone of our science national honor society serving as vice president last year and leading the group as president this year. She is compassionate, incredibly creative and possesses a level of brilliant determination that is perfectly suited for her next
adventure as she attends MIT this fall. I could not be prouder to watch her change the world. Please join me in recognizing this year's senior science award winner, Sujito. [applause] >> [applause] >> Please allow me to introduce the physical education and health department chair, Mike Divine. [applause] >> Sorry. Standing in for Mike, the ever wonderful Dan Lee. [applause] >> Uh, Coach Deb couldn't be with us tonight. uh he's actually coaching a lacrosse game right now. So he asked me to pres present tonight's awards. So tonight we are proud to recognize two individuals who truly embody what wellness education means here at Cheshire High School through their leadership, character, and positive impact on others. The Kathy Sullivan Wellness Award is presented to students who [clears throat] demonstrate a commitment to overall wellness, not just physically, but
emotionally, socially, and academically as well. These students lead by example, support those around them, and represent the values of our wellness program here each and every day. Our first recipient consistently brings positivity, kindness, and effort into every class and activity she's involved in. She is someone who makes others feel included and supported, and she approaches challenges with maturity and determination. She has shown tremendous leadership through her ability to encourage others, communicate respectfully, and create a positive environment for her peers. As Mr. Mr. Cut shared, she is a very mature student that has a great personality and work ethic. She is caring of others feelings and a great leader in class. You don't get a student like this many times. And for Mr. Crutch, she makes his all-time great list. Our first recipient recipient is Sarah
Mullen. Our [applause] second recipient exemplifies dedication, resilience, and character. He consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and a willingness to push himself well while also uplifting others in the process. His leadership is often shown through his actions. Whether it's encouraging classmates, demonstrating teamwork, or setting a positive tone in class, he reflects the core values of wellness through his commitment to growth, accountability, and respect for others. Mr. Belarsson shared this. He was a joy to have in class for his senior year. He consistently led by example, often being the first to volunteer to demonstrate any activity, including project adventures. His high energy and great attitude in class is what makes him deserving of this of this award. And our second recipient is Connor Rabel. [applause] [applause] I would like to offer a round of applause for
all of the department leaders and faculty for taking the time to be here tonight to celebrate the achievement of our students. [applause] We have a group of seniors who deserve to be recognized for their achievement as Eagle Scouts and Gold Award scout. Please welcome Eagle Scout Masters John Delaney and Tim Orca and Gold Award Advisor Beth Roth to honor these students. [applause] The Eagle Scout rank is uh scouting's highest rank. It's a seven-year journey that um culminates with earning at least 21 merit badges, more than 100 service hours on various projects, approximately, you know, 100 or more camping nights, a variety of leadership positions. Um the scouts swear a duty to God and country, to others, and to theelves, and they live by the virtues of the scout law through in all aspects of their
life. The uh the Eagle Scout rank is one of the few ranks that is recognized by employers well beyond um the high school and college years. I I know in my own experience I've seen Eagle Scout on resumes from people who are in their 40s and 50s. So it is a definitely a well recognized award. So tonight uh we there are three Eagle Scouts in the class of 2026 from Troop 92. There are two um the first is Joshua Kovitz. [applause and cheering] One of the key aspects or final requirements for uh the Eagle Scout rank is is doing a it's it's planning um leading and implementing a major service project that should be around for 10, 15, 20 years. Joshua built a trail bridge over at Riverbang Farm Sanctuary. So if you go hiking
over there, you will use it. [applause] The second Eagle Scout from Troop 92 is Patrick Roth. [applause] Patrick built rebuilt a section of a damaged trail bridge over at uh Fresh Meadows Land Trust property as well as installed uh new trail signs all throughout the property. [applause] Um, the scout master for troop 198 could not make it, but they had one Eagle Scout, Wyatt Jawick. [applause] [applause] Uh, you may have actually seen Wyatt's uh, Eagle project because he renovated all the stands of the baseball fields here. >> [applause] [applause] >> Hi. Um, I am here to recognize our Gold Award Girl Scout. Um, from the senior class, the Gold Award is the highest award for Girl Scouts. Um, it's only achieved by about 5% of girls nationally. Um, in the town of Cheshure, U. Brianna
will be the second girl since I've lived in town for 20 years who's received this award. So very proud of her. Um, a girl must identify an issue in their community and complete a take action project to address that issue. They need to demonstrate leadership. They need to build a team to work with them. They need to make this project measurable and sustainable and have a global connection. Uh, a Girl Scout working on these projects needs to put in at least 80 hours of personal time. Brianna Hawkins, if you want to come up. Um [applause] Brandice Goldward Project founded the faith um friends organization collaborating with her church St. Bridget's. She brought church volunteers and together to provide a curriculum based in education especially for children with learning disabilities. She worked with education mentors, education
experts and mentors at St. Bridges to develop a curriculum, provide training for volunteers, and build a trusting and safe space for candidates to enrich their understanding working towards achievements of their sacramental milestones. The faith friends program is sustainable for future students and published on the Catholic website to reach audiences both nationally and even worldwide. Congratulations. [applause] >> [applause] >> At this time, I am pleased to introduce Greg Bell, coral director, and the CHS honors treble choir to perform Landslide by Stevie Nicks, originally performed by Fleetwood Mac. 049reps for their unwavering support of our senior athletes. The Chester High School Booster Club takes great pride in the accomplishments of all our student athletes and is honored to recognize a special group of seniors this evening. These student athletes who applied for this honor also earned a combined total of four or more varsity letters in at least two different sports while maintaining a GPA of over a 3.0. It is now my pleasure to call them forward and recognize their outstanding achievements. [applause] Each year, the Chesher High School athletic department recognizes one male and one female senior athlete with the Steve Tarfon Athlete of the Year Award. The male and female athlete of the year awards are presented in honor of former athletic director Steve Tofone for his 20 years of dedication and service in shaping the proud tradition of athletics at Cheshure High School. Based on their outstanding athletic achievements, leadership, and character on and off the field, athletes are nominated by their head coaches for this award. The nominees are then voted on by the entire Chester High School coaching staff. This year's recipient of the Steve Trafon Male Athlete of the Year Award has been
a four-year member of both our football and boys lacrosse programs. He has been recognized by his coaches and teammates for his leadership and was selected as one of this year's football captains. During his time at Cheshire High School, he has distinguished himself not only through his athletic accomplishments, but also through the leadership, accountability, and commitment to others that he demonstrates each and every day. Next year, he will continue both his athletic and academic career at Salv Regina University. Congratulations to JC Summer. [applause] [applause] JC is out on the lacrosse field tonight. Um, in today's landscape of high school athletics, the three sport athlete has become increasing uh increasingly rare. Even more remarkable is that this year's Steve Trafon female athlete of the year has not only excelled in all three of her sports, but has
also served as a captain for each of those teams. This unique accomplishment speaks not only to her impact on the field, but also to the dedication, character, and leadership she brings to Cheshire High School every day. Following her junior lacrosse season, she was recognized as a USA lacrosse academic all-American. Next year, she will continue her athletic career and academic career at Fairley Dickinson University. To steal a line from her mom, good for you. Congratulations, Tony. [applause] >> [applause] >> It is now my pleasure to reintroduce Mr. Dan Lee who will present the Ryan T. Lee Foundation Excellence in Leadership Scholarship. [applause] The Ryan T. Lee Excellence Leadership Scholarship named in memory of my son Ryan and sponsored by the Ryan T. Memorial Foundation is awarded annually to a senior student athlete who served as a
captain of a Chester High School sports team. The recipient is chosen by a committee comprised of teachers, coaches, administrators, and support staff based on this following criteria. The individual embraces the challenges of intercolastic activi athletics [clears throat] and the leadership responsibilities associated with being a team captain. The individual understands the importance of taking an interest in others and exhibits the quality of a great teammate. The individual demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship, takes pride in representing Cheshire High School. The individual actively seeks opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others, and is dedicated to making our school community a better place. This year recipient is a two sport athlete and a two sport captain who always goes above and beyond to embrace a variety of leadership opportunities within our school community. Regardless of the scope of
the activity she's planning or the complexity of the problem, she dep she displays the unique ability to maintain an upbeat attitude, an unwavering focus, and a determination to exceed even the loftiest of expectations. Whether she's leading a statewide presentation for student leaders, or she's serving as a mentor for elementary school students here in Cheshure, she is an everyday leader who truly help truly enjoys helping others. In speaking to one of her coaches, uh this is what they shared. Her enthusiasm and commitment to team success makes her the type of leader who is a positive presence both on and off the field. Her outstanding communication skills and team spirit ranks her among one of the best captains that this coach has ever been around. So on behalf of the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Foundation, it is
my pleasure to present the 2026 Excellence Leadership Scholarship to Sarah Mullen. [applause] Over [applause] the course of four years at Chester High School, students may earn honor role status through their coursework. Principal Hanlin will make the presentation. >> Hello everybody. >> Mr. Salamini, thank you very much. Hello everybody. Uh you're doing great. We're in a home stretch of recognizing uh amazing accomplishment of students. But we are going to pause for a second to recognize
the presidential scholars program establishing a legacy of excellence since 1964. The US presidential scholars program stands as one of the highest honors of a high school student in our nation that our nation a student in our nation can achieve. Created by executive order, this prestigious program recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic success, artistic excellence, and a deep commitment to community service and leadership. Out of nearly nearly 3.6 million graduating seniors across the country, only a select few are invited to apply based on their outstanding performance on national exams or through nominations by chief state school officers. Today we are immensely proud to announce that one of our own has been named a candidate for this esteemed recognition. This milestone is not merely a reflection of high test scores but a testament to years of discipline,
intellectual curiosity and a drive to make meaningful impact to the world. To be uh among the top tier students in the US is a monumental achievement for both a student and entire school community. Our student has been selected of one of only 627 semi- finalists from across the country to advance to the final round. Please join me in a round of applause as we call to the podium Sucha. [applause] >> [applause] >> There are some other individuals who deserve recognition for all the behindthe-scenes work they do to make tonight possible. Mrs. Lindseay D'Angelo, Mrs. Donna Loyel, and Mr. Eric Dwanus in the school counseling career center work very hard organizing all the donors and materials for the scholarships. Because of their dedication, we as a school and community are able to offer many scholarships. The
next time you are in the school counseling office, please take the time to offer them your kind words of appreciation. I would also like to recognize my assistant, Mrs. Rebecca Shaw, [applause] for all she did to make tonight's event special. It is through her hard work and diligence that the many, many, many details of tonight's event are double and triple checked to ensure everything is as accurate as possible. Thank you, Mrs. Shaw. [applause] Lastly, thank you to Jill Hail, Denise Tzakis, Sue Chason, Julio Grady, and Alicia Guess for being here tonight. And thank you to the PTO for their generous donation for tonight's program. >> [applause] >> Each year, members of the senior class apply for scholarships offered by our business community.
