[Applause] at this time it is my great honor to get our ceremony underway and introduce the honors choir under the direction of our core teacher Mr Greg Bell please rise as they perform the national anthem [Music] hello [Applause] dreaming [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you so much so it is now my pleasure to introduce assistant principals Mrs Christian pedals and Mr Dan tartarelli to announce our 2023 Boca War recipients thank you good evening everybody starting off the book award Harvard is presented to a
002junior enrolled in college preparatory courses deemed most poorly by the High School faculty in the areas of scholarship and character this year's winner is Daniel de Souza [Applause] thank you good evening the yellow book a lot of award is presented to a member of the junior class was respected in the school Community for visitor leadership humility and integrity as well as academic accomplishment this year's winner is Ella Paul [Applause] foreign College book award is present to a young woman in the top 10 of the junior class who exemplifies academic achievement leadership and a concern for others this year's winner is Kathleen Hall [Applause] the Brown University book award is presented to a student who ranks in the top 10 percent of his or her class and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher the
003student must also be involved in extracurricular activities and community service hold a leadership position and Commander respect of both faculty and peers this year's recipient is Paige lipisto thank you [Applause] the voting award is presented to a high school junior who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the common good in an unusual passion for inquiry Discovery and Innovative thinking this year's winner is Tessa trochi [Applause] the University of Connecticut Avery Point campus is pleased to offer their book award to a student who is recognized for excellence and who is pursuing Marine Science Maritime studies or research and activities the student nominated for the category of coastal and Environmental Studies this year is Karina cardero thank you foreign College book award is presented to two students who rank in the top 10 of their class these students
004must demonstrate sustained and sincere commitment to community service activities in their high school or local community or organizations students must exemplify social conscience and Leadership within their community service Endeavors this year's recipients are Thomas Henry and Joshua milestones [Applause] thank you the Gettysburg College book award recognizes a member of the junior class who has distinguished himself or herself in the study of American History the student is chosen for his or her dedication to scholarship and is among the top 10 of the class this year's recipient is Trevor Gould [Applause] the Trinity book award is presented to a junior selected by the administration and faculty who is an outstanding academic record and has been enrolled in college prep courses the recipient of the Trinity College book award is Molly Fletcher [Applause] every year Cheshire High School
005is honored to have acidic group in the town budget money to send a student from our school to the American Legion boys state leadership program the student must be in the junior class and be a citizen of the United States student is chosen on the basis of friendliness a good sportsmanship and interest in the political system our award is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club the recipient for boys state is Michael mayano [Applause] not be here tonight to join us okay Chester High School is honored to have a Civic group in the town provide money for a student to attend the American Legion Laurel girl State leadership program the student must be in the junior class and be citizens of the United States they are chosen on the basis of friendliness sportsmanship and an interest in
006the political system our awards are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club the recipient of Laurel Laurel girls state is Jessica and Jonah [Applause] thank you the DAR Hood citizens program honors an outstanding young person in the senior class who demonstrates the qualities of good citizen this student exhibits dependability service leadership and patriotism this year's recipient is Michael De Joseph thank you [Applause] foreign to introduce Cheshire High School assistant principal Dr Maureen Reed good evening department leaders will now present their Department Awards presenting the department award for special achievement in art is Joe pistardo Department leader for the visual arts [Applause] the student receiving this year's award for special achievement in the visual arts has worked tirelessly to strengthen and sharpen their skills as an artist and has been an intricate part of each art course they've
007attended in their four years here at Cheshire High School their motivation and willingness to develop their work to the highest standard by welcoming and capitalizing our feedback from their teachers and peers shows their pride and dedication to the subject matter and their completed artwork the student has been a foundation of this year's AP drawing class and will continue their journey toward a career that builds upon their creativity and attention to detail as they pursue a degree in the industrial design at Virginia Tech it's my distinct pleasure to congratulate Aiden McCauley [Applause] I'd now like to introduce Leslie Fair the business department leader [Applause] good evening the business education award is given to a student who has demonstrated a thorough understanding in the field of business and has maintained a high level of academic achievement and
008integrity the recipient of this year's business award has a desire to learn about all aspects of business and to gain a deeper understanding of these Concepts our recipient has taken many business classes including three college-level courses offered in the business department his teachers shared that he has an outstanding work ethic is highly engaged a team player kind intelligent hard-working and a great role model who leads by example our recipient plans to pursue a degree in business please join me in congratulating ilda Hoxie for the Christmas presentation campus thank you [Applause] next I'd like to recognize two outstanding students in the discipline of accounting who have earned recognition from the Connecticut CPA award the first student has an outstanding work ethic and leads by example this student is described as intelligent humble and kind she shared
009with her teacher that she has wanted to be an accountant since she was a little girl she has taken many business classes and has been an active member in our future Business Leaders of America club for the past four years she was president of FBLA this year this student is pursuing an accounting degree at UConn in their business honors program and plans to become a CPA please join me in congratulating Kylie Vasquez thank you the second accounting student to receive the Connecticut CPA award also has a passion for a captain he has taken on the challenge of completing two college level accounting classes and also completed an independent study to deepen its knowledge of accounting his teacher shared that his analytical skills and ability to understand challenging accounting contents is impressive our recipient is pursuing
010an accounting degree at UConn's School of Business please join me in congratulating Anthony to spot [Applause] our final business award tonight is the Susan zwick future educator award this award is presented to a graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in career in education this student exemplifies all that was meaningful to Mrs swick including being a positive role model possessing high moral character having a caring personality willingness to help others and most importantly demonstrating a passion for education and lifelong learning our recipient of this year's award exemplifies all of the above characteristics and more she is pursuing a degree in education at Endicott College and I know she will inspire children far into the future as they grow and learn please join me in congratulating Courtney Cronin [Applause] thank you next I'd like to introduce
011Greg Bell who will be sharing the awards for the music department [Applause] the course award is given annually to a student that exemplifies the hard work and dedication needed in a performing Ensemble but also just as importantly provides the spirit that simply brings joy to everyone around them Ensemble singing is about the root and how comfortable the individuals are within that group our recipient this year has done a tremendous amount of work to help create a social atmosphere where everyone feels joy and a supportive environment where everyone feels that their personal contributions are essential no matter their ability or level of involvement on top of this the senior has proven themselves to be a top talent in our Ensemble being selected for regional ensembles and as a leader in the rehearsal space this year's choral
012award goes to Monica galley [Applause] this senior has had multiple accomplishments throughout their career in the Band program they have demonstrated their talents being a multi-year member of the cfea southern region and all state ensembles they have also led the multiple roles for the marching band program as a section leader and as a peer elected representative there are very dedicated and talented musicians with excellent leadership and communication skills and we wish this senior all the best in their future endeavors this year's been award goes to Julia [Applause] for orchestra this year's recipient has served in Levy Orchestra in many ways as one of the co-contra Masters she has been a great sounding board to help make Musical and logistical decisions for The Ensemble and is always encouraging to the other Orchestra members especially our ninth
013graders she also participated in the cnea southern region Orchestra and while she does not enjoy the spotlight she is a phenomenal musician we wish her the very best in the future this year's Orchestra award goes through Samantha Weber foreign [Applause] the department award for excellence in English is given annually to the senior who best embodies the attributes of an effective communicator and literary Scholars and as we're fine and showcase their skills over the past four years teachers of this year's winner shared that he's an enthusiastic scholarly student who excels in his English classes he's very well read and knowledgeable which is demonstrated in the critical thinking he displays in both his writing and class discussions an especially skilled creative writer the student's trademark is his clever witty comedic writing we wish him the best of
014luck next year Roger Williams University the recipient of this year's Department award for excellence and English is Jeremiah Mann foreign [Applause] [Music] award for excellence in writing is given to a senior who has demonstrated Superior skills in writing and distinguished himself as a talented and inspired writer teachers of this year's winner share that she is the skilled writer of both expository expository and creative Works her writing demonstrates fresh thinking Vivid detail and it was just the right amount of development while she has a talent for writing she also works hard to refine her craft we have a feeling we'll be seeing more for writing in the future and we wish you the best of luck next year at Wesleyan University the recipient of this year's English Department award for excellence in writing is Carly [Applause]
015uh now I'd like to introduce Miss Tony to present the awards for theater [Applause] the drama award goes to a student who has been a dedicated member of the CHS theater program in four years the student is hard-working committed to the success of the Ensemble and a leader among her peers she has performed the roles large and small and always arrives to work with a smile on her faces will be an infectious enthusiasm the student is a dedicated member of the company who is committed to a high quality performance and is someone who appears to rely on Institute has a passion for the Arts a strong work ethic and a kind soul the drama award goes to demonic again [Applause] and now presenting the World Language Awards the B killer or two of Rockville thank
016you foreign [Applause] every year awards are presented for World languages the selection is made from Seniors who have achieved excellence in verbal and written language skills this year the awards are for excellence in the French language this student has consistently demonstrated a parallel motivation and excellence in the Pursuits of languages her dedication to constantly expanding perfecting and using your French skills both in and out of class is extraordinary the award for excellence in French goes to Sophia Johnston [Applause] for excellence in the German language this student has been an outstanding German student since the seventh grade her dedication to the language was recognized by the American Association of teachers of German when she was one of only 55 students in the entire United States to be awarded a German National exam scholarship this award allowed
017her to spend several weeks in Germany Last Summer in her senior year she has continued to shine in German and be an inspiration to her classmates and teachers alike the award for Accents in German goes to Lily Watson [Applause] for excellence in the Latin language this student has been such a dedicated student to Latin she is co-counsel of the Latin club was a hard-working member of AP Latin and she shows her enthusiasm for the language through fantastic discussion pertaining to both the language and the culture your word for excellence in Latin goes to Lauren paranace [Applause] for excellence in the Italian language the student is a hard-working and independent student she's she is well liked and respected by you all most importantly she is a role model to her peers she constantly goes above and
018beyond the class expectations and consistently reaches those high goals she is a confident bright respectful and an outgoing individual the award for Accents in Italian goes to Kylie Vasquez [Applause] oh for excellence in the Spanish language this student is a scholar student she's always has the best disposition and celebrates her classmates when they do well her unwavering efforts as awarded her with the highest academic achievement of the class on an incredible level of language fluency the award for excellence in Spanish goes through Samantha [Applause] foreign at this time I would like to introduce to you Mr Sean mcewing the chairperson of Korean technical education department [Applause] the technology and engineering education award is presented annually to a student who has demonstrated proficiency and in wide array of courses offered into the area of engineering and
019Technology this year's recipient has consistently shown leadership in our department an ability to creatively think problem solved and work productively with their peers her teachers describe her as a consummate tech guide student she constantly demonstrates an industrial work that could work ethic it never allows the project to get the best in her she makes our toughest tasks look easy her desire to do the best possible job is evidence in her work typically represents one of the best efforts in class of highly motivated problem solvers she takes initiative asks us to do next when completing tasks and is amenable to any critique of her own work she seamlessly transfers Knowledge from the classroom to the laboratory it takes a great pride in the audience in my experience she has consistently gone above and beyond the expectations
020and has shown a strong dedication and Excellence through the project-based work I've seen students racing to be in her group when we start projects she's an acceptable exceptional student as well deserving of the technology and engineering education we're very proud to present this year's technology engineer Education Works in Valor eventually [Applause] because our next award is the family in consumer science award and this award is presented to an individual who has maintained High academic standards and has shown an interest in pursuing a career in culinary arts Child Development or related consumer Sciences this year's recipient has an innate talent for food preparation she can test any recipe and let us know what it needs a talent which is catapulted many of our catering events from being good to being excellent likewise she has excellent interpersonal
021skills when professional settings she is confident communicative and she works incredibly hard to make sure no details are missed she shines when leading projects and she shied in all of her plinary courses she's very well deserving of this year's board we are proud to present this year's family consumer science board to Caitlin post thank you [Applause] the [Music] Xerox award for Innovation and information technology is awarded so it is given to a student who has a strong interest in Innovation and or information technology in a high level achievement in this academic area they expose themselves to new technologies outside school and they lead other students to approach it to civil problems we believe this year's recipient is a strong candidate for this award as she has taken on some high-level tasks for some important clients
022like or something and it's an Excellence work or work can be seen anywhere our district logo is now printed or published and she took an aging digital document and flawlessly brought it to the 21st century we're lucky enough to have her for one more year as a student we're proud to present this similar to sell it [Applause] and it's my pleasure to introduce Mr Alan de varsias our yearbook advisor [Applause] good evening first I want to thank all of the parents who have contributed pictures throughout the seasons of the sports to help in the yearbook be successful I also want to thank all the students who have also reached out and given us some photos so appreciate that so the yearbook award this year is given to an outstanding senior who has really helped over
023the past two years excuse me make the yearbook amazing she has gone our way to reach out to parents students teachers and continually follow up with them to make sure that they follow through with what they should do she took a course over the summer on her own time to make the little differences that really make a yearbook pop this year's yearbook Award winner is Lauren Paradise [Applause] I would like to pass this along to Lisa bearings the math department chair s I'm honored to be here tonight to present the math department award to a student who exemplifies what it means to be a student and athlete here at Cheshire High School a student has taken all four math AP courses currently offered in their department and it's continued to challenge himself by taking additional
024College Normal coursework in the field of mathematics he's a four-year member of the math team and Captain this year he'll represent Cheshire on the state of Connecticut math team traveling to compete at Penn State too he has qualified multiple times to participate in the highly challenging second round of the American math competition and all the teachers who has worked with this student have described him as an extremely respectable personable and truly a great teammate the math department award goes to Andrew Zoo [Applause] I would now like to introduce the science department chair Julie Parker to present the science department of Arts good evening the Fred Willis award is presented in memory of the Cheshire High School science teacher this award goes to student in their first year of chemistry who has shown the qualities that
025Fred Pride so highly excellence in the study of chemistry broad intellectual curiosity and the promise of future academic programs this year's recipient has been a leader for the planned Mars project and hopes to work for NASA one day Mrs korres reports that the student is an exceptional young man that is driven to succeed his work ethic is outstanding and he shows a genuine interest in understanding science he is hard working with an exceptional character and always willing to help others this year's Fred willett's award recipient is Malachi Baya [Applause] the baushalam science award is presented to a member of the junior class in recognition of the outstanding academic achievement good character and Superior intellectual promise in the field of science this year the award goes to a student that I have the pleasure of having
026in my AP Physics class and who is also an officer for the science National Honor Society always driven to succeed this young person has a scientific mindset and is a natural leader both in the classroom and Beyond The Bachelor science award goes to Daniel de Souza [Applause] foreign [Applause] science award is presented to a senior student who has displayed A continuing interest in the pursuit of Science and has maintained a superior academic record throughout his reverse High School career I have been lucky to make a personal connection with this year's recipient through her years here at CHS when I first met her she was representing CHS at the Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair over the last four years she has participated in science fairs invention conventions the Breakthrough science Challenge and has been the lead
027programmer for the CHS macarance robotics team she has even published a research paper titled does skin tone matter across Regional analysis of colorism experiences from high school students in the Journal of student research all of this while excelling in advanced science courses and being a leader and a role model as passionate as she is about science inventing and programming she is even more passionate about empowering young women as the Connecticut chapter leader for project CS girls she encourages girls to explore computer science our science Award winner will be taking her considerable talents to Georgia Tech in the fall to continue her Innovations on a personal note I must add that I am so proud to be able to say that I was her teacher the science of senior science award goes to segregation [Applause] thank
028you [Applause] and as I will introduce Kathy Sullivan the department chair for Peak the awards for physical education and health are based on demonstrated excellence in physical education through individual team and lifetime Leisure activity units as well as the application of the principles of the health curriculum our two recipients are go-getters they give a hundred percent in everything they do whether it's in the classroom on the athletic field or in the community if you start a question a sentence that states would you mind answering what you need and sure before you even finish asking the question along with Always setting a wonderful example in class they both helped to develop and run three different leadership conferences this year through our Department's elective class pea Health Educators they taught Health lessons to 9th and 11th graders
029and helped organize and host a unified basketball tournament for Cheshire high school and for the surrounding towns they developed a video highlighting everyday leadership where lunchtime mentors at the elementary schools and help to run a food drive for our community bank the dedication to others does not end they have two exceptional outgoing students who are always willing to help others they have served as positive role models and can always be counted on to go above and beyond in everything they do I am so proud to present present the 2023 physical education Health Awards to Gabby tirado and Michael De Joseph [Applause] thank you [Applause] and it's my honor to introduce Tim Galvin Department leader for social studies [Applause] good evening this award is presented to a student who has shown tremendous passion for history and
030social sciences attaining Superior academic achievement in all related coursework conscientious and self-motivated this individual is an exceptional student one teacher described this young scholar as someone who Embraces academic rigor with an unbridled work ethic she is a knowledgeable person who stands with Integrity is accountable and most importantly has compassion for those around them she has been an exemplary student in all regards it is my pleasure to announce the winner of the social studies award Samantha Wang thank you Frederick Douglass and Susan B Anthony award is given to a junior who demonstrates a concern for the well-being of others and a dedication to Community Action Heretics Scott King once said that the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members this student is the embodiment of that principle you

034the Cheshire High School athletic program these athletes are representing Cheshire in the highest regard with sportsmanship character leadership academics and teamwork and also demonstrated excellence in their sport in league and state competition our female outstanding athlete was a two-sport athlete in the sports of soccer and basketball a natural athlete she can play any sport and have success a season-ending injury Sidelines her during her entire junior year but her tireless work ethic and competitive Spirit brought her back this year she returned to basketball but excelled in the sports soccer she received a large number of soccer accolades including being named League Player of the Year Allstate all New England and also named to the female high school all academic an All-American soccer team she was always a team player in display for contagious enthusiasm at every
035practice and contest a highly respected athlete throughout the state she always plays for the betterment of the team and her success is not as important she is very involved in peer health class and has always reached out to give back to the school and Community she helped her soccer team to read School record season competing in the state finals this year all this while maintaining a grade point average of 4.0 she will look to expand her college options and will attend choke Rosemary from post-grant year congratulations to Gabriella Gabby Perez [Applause] our outstanding male athlete was a three-season athlete all four years competing in soccer indoor track outdoor track and was named captain for all three teams he earned all SEC honors in all three Sports and was an eighth of the All-State and all
036New England teams in the sport of track and field a varsity player in soccer all four years he leaves with two appearances in the State final and this year was part of the state championship boys soccer team he also released with two additional personal state championship titles and track both in the 100 meters as well as a first place finish in the New England championship he was invited to and competed at the Scholastic National track championships he leaves treasure High studying four new high school records in track and would continue his track career competing for the pioneers of Sacred Heart University a humble athlete he always contributed his success to his teammates and coaches congratulations to Colin Brown [Applause] I would not like to introduce Mr Dan Lee to present the Excellence in leadership scholarship
037[Applause] the excess leadership scholarship is sponsored by the Orion TV Memorial Foundation is awarded annuity to a senior captain of the Cheshire High School sports team the recipient is chosen by a committee comprised of teachers coaches and administrators based on the following criteria the individual Embraces the challenges of interscholastic Athletics and Leadership responsibilities associated with being a captain the individual understands the importance of taking interest in others and Exhibits the quality of a great teammate the individual demonstrates our team exportsmanship it takes pride in representing Cheshire High School the individual activity seeks opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others and is dedicated to making our school our school Community a better place this year's recipient is not only a multi-sport athlete but he's also a multi-sport captain who's embraced the variety of

043Scouts it involves demonstrated leadership and demonstrated both through their example through the way they lived and through their various leadership positions in the troop it involves developing a lifestyle of community service represented by countless service hours a major project that they have to to plan and Implement in the community Eagle Scout is unique in the in that it is an achievement that employers will recognize and value throughout the the young man's career so it's something that will be on their resume at 18 at 25 at 55. it is it is well recognized throughout because these individuals are loyal honorable courageous individuals who are Leaders with vision and who recognize and act on the needs of the community there is a standing once in Eagle Scout always an eagle scout and that Rings true because these
044young men have pledged their lives to follow the principles they've learned through scouting so I'd like to recognize the the four Eagles in the class of 2023 Cesar Barbeau Claudius [Applause] thank you before we recognize our local scholarship winners we would like to recognize the recipients from the National Merit Scholarship program and the 2023 semi-finalists of the U.S presidential Scholars competition Dr Gad will make the presentations [Applause] I love looking out at the Sea of awards and your smiling faces so congratulations to everyone so far and we have a few more Awards to announce this evening so out of the 1.5 million students who enter the National Merit Scholarship 7 600 students qualify as finalists Nationwide finalists are chosen based on their abilities skills and accomplishments the National Merit Scholarship Corporation evaluates the finalists academic

049Meriden and Wolcott Public Schools as a third grade teacher and later A literacy specialist she shared her love of reading with over a thousand students my mom believed deeply in the power of reading to open new worlds and new opportunities to children and she worked tirelessly to help her students develop the literacy skills that could Empower them to succeed in the future our mission is grounded in her values and our Focus areas include literacy and teacher education as such this scholarship is awarded to a student who intends to pursue a degree in education as we'd look to support the next generation of aspiring teachers our recipient has excelled academically here at CHS but also sought opportunities to work with Elementary School students through our Cadet teaching program through that experience they have learned a great
