I would like to extend a warm welcome to our parents, employers, CEX leadership, local and state officials, honored guests, staff, and most importantly, the students who are here to celebrate today. My name is Matthews. I'm the dean of students and workbased learning coordinator and it's my pleasure to welcome you to WER Technical High School's third annual career signing day. This is also nationally recognized by Skills USA. Today marks an important milestone as we recognize students in the skilled trades for employment, apprenticeships, and continued training after graduation. Much like college athletes signing to play at the next level, today our students are signing up to something equally significant. The opportunity to enter our workforce that is in kind demands, deeply respected, and essential to the future of our communities across Connecticut. Today's ceremony also reflects our

district's commitment to ensure ensuring students leave us not only technically skilled, but prepared with meaningful pathways to career success. This science symbolizes more than on paper. It represents the connection between education, industry, and the future workforce. At this time, it is my pleasure to introduce our principal, Dr. Ken Miller. 005you begin this exciting chapter in your lives. [applause] Thank you. And now, please welcome Superintendent offer some words of encouragement to our students. >> [applause] >> Good morning everybody. >> Very good. So this is my first signing day for CEX and it's pretty funny because when I came here it was my first actual event that went through CEX which was memorial day program. So I want to first thank Dr. and his whole team for putting on these great events and thank you to all the teachers that are involved in this team. Matthews, everybody, you all did a great job. So, we give them a big round of applause. [applause] So, funny story. I just came up here over here. Um, and we were talking about how we have sons for taking over the business and

the local story about him. his his son worked with him since he was 7 years old. He's raised up. He's he's going to be working in and running the company from here on out. Um I told him and my father did HVAC uh in New Haven business and he took me to work uh since I was 7 years old. Um and I helped HVAC. So our friend here did a great job. Um and uh uh but you know the idea of waking up in the morning and going out and doing work and and really really making a difference in the world in your world is important. When I first came out to CE one of the things that I did on behalf of all the schools and I met with a team of students I

met with a little focus group of students and one of the questions I asked them is what's the best thing about CEX? What's the best thing about your school? And unequivocally all of them at one point in the conversation said that work factory. So the ability to get up to go to school to learn a trade to learn a skill and go out and work while you're going to school is something that's really awesome and something that all the students really uh really appreciate. And it was great here. So it was great to see this this event coming forward and coming coming together. Before I came to CX, I was at a comprehensive high school. Um, and when we talked about signing days, we talked about athletics, students that are only taking programs, students that

are going to museum to to do a sport at college. And that was great. Really great. But the idea to come to an event where we're talking about students recognizing their hard work over the course of four years um not just in athletics but in grit determination learning about trade learning their academics and they're going on to a career is fantastic and I just want to say students you did this so you worked hard and you got to where you are today and you should be really really proud of yourself and I want to say teachers teachers you did this so you guide them you got them to where they need to be and you should be proud of them and you should be proud of yourself. I'm grateful for all the teachers that we

have here. I'm grateful for our students and for our staff. Um just want to say a huge congratulations. Look forward to seeing the ceremony coming coming together. Um and thank you. Have a great day. [applause] Thank you, Mr. Paco. Next, I'd like to introduce Representative Natalie. >> [applause] >> Good morning everyone. It's truly a pleasure to be here celebrating your signing day. This morning is more about just employment. It's about opportunity, preparation, and the power of hard work and love. Through the students we are honoring, you made a commitment to your craft. You follow through. Securing women in your trade right out of high school is no small achievement. You are setting up the workforce not just with diploma but with real skills that are in demand and essential for the state of our economy.

To the parents, families and teachers, your support for these students, their success has been critical along the way.
