Welcome everyone to our board meeting. Um I want to thank everybody for coming out tonight. I know we're have some uh impending bad weather, so we're going to get started right away. [laughter] >> Scotch. >> So, it's not every night that we get to eat kiche or have lemon bars. Yes. Um, for those of you who came out tonight, uh, on behalf of Brian, I want to say thank you. Just the number of teachers that are here from Rogers Park is a testament to their belief in you in this role. Um, but also just the friendship and collaboration and the trust that you've engendered over the last, you know, decade. Um, I had some
nice conversations about, uh, for those who may not be familiar with you, um, just how much you've brought to Rogers Park. Um, the legacy that in your short tenure there and is is is evident. Um, the number of students that have come back to just talk about how you've empowered them and and the way that they feel about themselves as a result of having spent some time interacting with you. and you know, you've had there's a tremendous team behind you at Rogers Park who do many of of the same um types of things, but um you rose to the top of the heap, not just at Rogers Park, not just our district, but clearly the state also saw it as well. Um and even a contender at the national level. So, we think you're all
world, but you know, maybe on the next round, but honestly, Brian, we're so proud of you. You're now our claim to fame. Um, I had to fill out some of our accomplishments in our budget book and I got to claim you, which was awesome. But we also know that there's a lot that goes into to all of it. The application process, Dr. Zelita, you know, led that those initial days of of application, but those applications are easy when there's a lot to write about. Um, and so I just want to say thank you so much for representing us in such a great way. Um, you know, we almost uh tonight with the weather, I don't know if you guys know this, but at the Bushnell when we're getting close to celebrating the big day at
the Bushnell, we had another a big weather event and the whole thing had to be rescheduled. It was a big deal. And so >> convocation, too. >> And convocation. Oh my gosh. Yeah. So, there's definitely, you know, there's a little bit >> almost playing tricks. >> Yeah. It's almost playing tricks. So, tonight when the weather forecast was starting to get a little funky, um, my biggest fear is that we would have to delay this again. So, I'm so glad that you're here. I'm glad that your family is here again and your adorable daughter. Um, but we just wanted to say thank you again. We have a nice award for you, a little certificate. Um, and we'd love to take some photos. Um, maybe get some autographs later if you're up to it. Okay. So, we're
gonna we'd like to present you with an award. I'm going to come around and then we're going to do some pictures. But, thank you again. Round of applause for Brian Bettish. [applause] >> [applause] >> I wasn't sure how this was in the background. >> It says public schools. Brian, state of Connecticut teacher of the year. [applause] [cheering] And this is our certificate to you and it is signed by myself and our >> congratulations. [applause] We're gonna go by the seal. The board will not permit any expression of personal complaints or defamatory comments about board of education personnel and
students nor against any person connected with the Danbury public school system. Okay. Do we have anybody here for public participation that would like to speak? Nope. Okay. We will move on. Um, I want to thank the board members for really wonderful conversations uh and the questions regarding the development of our budget um for fiscal year 24
uh 27. Um we met uh as a group and we had a budget workshop on February 5th where we presented the details of the budget in depth. Um the document is available um publicly for those who want to continue to to review that. Uh we then followed up with a question and answer session on February 9th uh where we entertained questions around um enrollment some of our um questions around our plans for next year. Um again those we have a video that's available as well as um documented Q&A. So we have all of that in the public record. Um our ask of the city this uh for this coming year is a $2.99 million increase which is roughly 1.75% uh of an increase over the previous year um for a total ask of $175 million.
Um, and with that, again, I would just like to thank the board and the cabinet for their hard work in the development of the budget and um, I hope to see it pass tonight. >> Thank you.
